TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH WHEN THE ENGINE STALLED WITH THE ILLUMINATION OF THE SRS WARNING INDICATOR. PRIOR TO THE FAILURE, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE ENGINE WAS PERFORMING ROUGHLY. THE ENGINE WAS RESTARTED AFTER COOLING DOWN. THE FAILURE RECURRED THREE TIMES. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 07V52100 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) BUT WAS ADVISED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. I HAVE JUST FOUND OUT THAT 3 FUEL INJECTORS ARE LEAKING FUEL, WITH A POSSIBLE HEAD GASKET LEAK,FILLING MY CRANKCASE WITH DIESEL, CAUSING OIL TO BLOW OUT ALL OVER THE TRUCK, ROAD AND WHATEVER ELSE IT CAN LAND ON. WHILE INVESTIGATING WHAT TO DO, TO FIX THE TRUCK I'VE FOUND 3 OTHER PEOPLE I KNOW THAT HAVE DURAMAX'S, AND THEY ARE GOING THROUGH THE SAME PROBLEMS. IT'S GOING TO TAKE ME A YEAR TO SAVE THE MONEY I NEED TO FIX THIS TRUCK. I'M EVEN GOING TO DO THE WORK MYSELF. IN MY OPINION GM SHOULD BE ASHAMED. THEY SHOULD AT LEASED PAY FOR THE PARTS. THE CHEAPEST INJECTORS I'VE FOUND ARE $225.00 APIECE WITH A $125.00 CORE CHARGE. IT'S RECOMENDED THAT ALL 8 INJECTORS BE REPLACED AT ONCE. EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS ON 2002 CHEVROLET 2500 HD 6.0 L V8 ARE BROKEN AT THE BACK BOLT ON THE DRIVERS SIDE. THE PASSANGER SIDE EXHAUST MANIFOLD IS CRACKED BETWEEN THE 3RD AND 4TH BOLT FROM THE FRONT. I REPLACED THE BOLTS ON THE DRIVER SIDE, EXCEPT FOR THE BACK ONE THAT IS SHEARED OFF FLUSH WITH THE CYLINDER HEAD. THE ONLY WAY TO GET THIS PARTICULAR BOLT OUT IS TO REMOVE THE CYLINDER HEAD FROM THE ENGINE SO THAT A MACHINE SHOP CAN DRILL OUT THE OFFENDING BOLT. THE REPLACEMENT BOLTS THAT I PURCHASED FROM THE GM DEALER WERE A MUCH STURDIER BOLT THAT HAD A MUCH LARGER HEAD ON THE BOLT. TO ME THIS INDICATES KNOWLEDGE THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM AND THAT GM IS AWARE OF IT. THIS WILL MOST CERTAINLY LEAD TO AN EXHAUST LEAK THAT WILL CAUSE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO COME ON. A VEHICLE WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON CANNOT PASS A FIELD EMISSIONS TEST AND WILL RESULT IN A REVOCATION OF THE VEHICLES REGISTRATION UNTIL THE PROBLEM IS CORRECTED. THIS IS NOW A SERIOUS PROBLEM THAT IS VERY EXPENSIVE TO REPAIR. GM SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THE POSSIBLE EPA VIOLATIONS THAT THIS WELL DOCUMENTED ISSUE IS NOW CAUSING. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 98,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 85,000.

IT NEVER DID THIS BEFORE SO I TOOK IT TO THE LOCAL DEALER TO FIND OUT WHAT THE PROBLEM MIGHT BE. THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT THE INJECTORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF ABOUT $4500. I CONTACTED GMC, THEY SET UP A CASE FILE AND GOT BACK TO ME IN ABOUT A WEEK TO TELL ME THAT I WAS BEYOND THE 7 YEAR EXTENDED WARRANTY AND SO THEY WOULD NOT COVER THE REPAIR. THE FACT THAT IT ONLY HAD ABOUT 1/2 OF THE 200,000 MILES COVERED IN THE EXTENDED WARRANTY DIDN'T SEEM TO COUNT FOR ANYTHING. ONE OF THE SELLING POINTS WHEN I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE WAS THAT IT SHOULD LAST FOR 200K TO 300K MILES WITHOUT NEEDING REPAIR. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE CHEVROLET DEALER AND HAD THE CRANKCASE POSITION SENSOR REPLACED AND THAT SOLVED THE PROBLEM. TO ELABORATE ON THE PROBLEM IT DID OCCUR WHILE I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT 65 MILES PER HOUR. THAT IS VERY SCARY AND AS THIS IS A TRUCK I COULD HAVE BEEN TOWING MY BOAT. I'VE HAD THEM TELL ME IT COULD BE A HOST OF THINGS FROM AIR PROBLEMS TO FUEL LINE PROBLEMS TO ELECTRICAL ISSUES. NO ONE CAN GIVE ME A STRAIGHT ANSWER. I'VE EVEN HAD ONE MECHANIC DROP MY FUEL TANK TO INSPECT THE PUMP TO SEE IF IT'S THE PROBLEM. EVEN THEN, NOTHING ACTED UP. THERE NOW IS A CODE SHOWING UP SAYING MY CRANK SENSOR IS FAULTY. ALMOST EVERY MECHANIC IS CONVINCED IT'S MY FUEL PUMP BUT I HAVE GREAT PRESSURE IN THE LINES. I'VE NOTICED SEVERAL PEOPLE WITH MY SAME YEAR AND ENGINE HAVE HAD SIMILAR ISSUES. AS WELL, I NOTICED THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE CRANK SENSORS ON 2001 MODELS BUT NOT 2002 MODELS. WHY IS THIS? I THINK THERE'S JUST AS MANY ISSUES IN THAT YEAR AS THERE ARE IN FOLLOWING YEARS. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CRANK POSITION SENSOR FAILED WHILE DRIVING LESS THAN 55 MPH. THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY LOST POWER AND SHUT OFF. AFTER A FEW MINUTES, THE VEHICLE RESTARTED. THE DEALER REPLACED THE BATTERY CABLE AND STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS REMEDIED. THE FOLLOWING DAY, WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH, THE FAILURE RECURRED. FIFTH-WHEEL WITH THE TRUCK! MY TRUCK STOPPED RUNNING FOUR TIMES OVER THE COURSE OF TWO WEEKS AS A RESULT OF THIS PROBLEM. LOUD HARD KNOCKING NOISE COMING FROM ENGINE AT COLD START UP. THEN AFTER ENGINE IS WARMED UP AFTER DRIVING AND DECELERATION YOU CAN STILL HEAR THE KNOCKING NOISE, JUST NOT AS LOUD AS AT COLD START. TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP, AND ADVISED CHEVROLET WAS AWARE OF PROBLEM, AND DID NOT HAVE A SOLUTION. ADVISED BY DEALER IT WOULD NOT HURT ENGINE, BUT I DISAGREE, THE VERY HARD KNOCKING CAN NOT BE GOOD FOR THE VALVES, OR CRANKSHAFT, AND HAS TO BE CAUSING SOME SORT DAMAGE WITHIN THE ENGINE ITSELF.
