THE REAR BRAKES FAILED WITH LITTLE OR NO WARNING. THE BRAKES WENT FROM GOOD TO MUSHY WITHOUT WARNING LIGHT. I ADDED BRAKE FLUID TO TEST IN DRIVE WAY. PUMPED THE BRAKES AND THE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. THE REAR LINE FAILED. I HAD THE TRUCK INSPECTED AT A GENERAL MOTORS DEALER IN JANUARY OF 2018 AND ALSO AT THE END OF FEBRUARY. THE SAID MY VEHICLE IS MAINTAINED IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. IF THIS COULD HAPPEN TO ME....ALL GM VEHICLES WITH THESE BRAKE LINES ARE AT RISK. I READ THEIR WAS A SAFETY BULLETIN 13-05-22-001. TODAY IS 4/12/2018...BECAUSE I TOW A BOAT TO FLORIDA I HAD THE TRUCK CHECKED 2 TIMES IN THE LAST 12 WEEKS....IF THE DEALERS CAN'T DETECT FAULTY LINES....A RECALL IS NEEDED.

THE RIGHT FRONT BRAKE LINE ON MY TRUCK RUSTED THROUGH. I LOST BRAKING WHEN LOADING MY 10 FT CAMPER IN THE DRIVEWAY. I TOOK THE TRUCK TO DEALERSHIP AND IT WAS FOUND THAT ALL THE BRAKE LINES ARE RUSTED AND IN DANGER OF FAILURE AT ANY TIME. ALL OF THE BRAKE LINES ON THE TRUCK ARE BARE METAL AND PRONE TO RUST. NEW BRAKE LINES ARE PAINTED TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING. HAD TO BUY COMPLETE BRAKE LINE KIT TO GET RIGHT FRONT LINE FOR REPLACEMENT BY DEALERSHIP FOR $452.85 . THEY RECOMMEND THAT I REPLACE ALL OF THE LINES. I CALLED CHEVROLET CUSTOMER SERVICE, COMPLAINT # 8-3176545196. I HAVE GOTTEN NO COOPERATION, THEY HAVE TOLD ME THERE IS NOTHING THAT THEY CAN DO. BECAUSE OF THIS POTENTIALLY CAUSING A CATASTROPHIC FATAL ACCIDENT DUE TO COMPLETE OR PARTIAL LOSS OF BRAKING POWER - IT GIVES NO WARNING UNTIL FAILURE OCCURS. I TOLD THEM THEY NEEDED TO PUT OUT AN ALERT TO OTHER DRIVERS AND THEY DECLINED STATING THAT THEY DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH COMPLAINTS. THIS TRUCK ONLY HAS 99546 MILES ON IT AND IN ALL OF MY YEARS WORKING WITH AUTOMOBILES I HAVE NEVER SEEN A BREAK LINE RUST THROUGH.

SUDDEN FAILURE OF BRAKES DURING LOW SPEED STOP, BRAKE LINE FAILED NEAR FRAME UNDERSIDE IN DRIVER SEAT AREA. WAS ABLE TO QUICKLY STOP VEHICLE WITH EMERGENCY BRAKE JUST SHORT OF GOING INTO HEAVY TRAFFIC. THIS TRUCK IS METICULOUSLY MAINTAINED INCLUDING UNDERSIDE WASHES, NO BODY RUST ANYWHERE AND WAS UNDERCOAT PROTECTED FROM NEW. SHOCKED A LEVEL OF RUST ON WHAT ARE APPARENTLY HIGH CARBON STEEL LINES, THESE SHOULD BE STAINLESS STEEL.
WHEN NORMAL STOPPING ABS ACTIVATES AND KEEPS ACTIVATING UNTIL PEDAL GOES TO FLOOR AND BRAKES DO NO FUNCTION, THERE ARE NO WARNING LITES AND NO INDICATION OF A PROBLEM.I WAS UNDER THE IMPRESSION THAT ANY ABS FAILURE WOULD REVERT SYSTEM TO REGULAR BRAKE SYSTEM. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS.

I WAS DRIVING MY TRUCK ON 3/30/16 ANOTHER VEHICLE PULLED OUT IN FRONT OF ME. I SLAMMED ON MY BRAKES TO AVOID A WRECK. AT THE NEXT RED LIGHT I NOTICED MY BRAKES WERE SOFT. I PULLED OVER TO CHECK MY FLUID. IT WAS DOWN ABOUT AN INCH. I DECIDED TO TRY TO MAKE IT HOME. THEN A SERVICE BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON. I DID MAKE IT HOME. I CRAWLED UNDER THE TRUCK AND BRAKE FLUID WAS FROM THE FRONT TO THE BACK OF THE TRUCK. I NOTICED TWO COMPROMISED METAL BRAKE LINES ON THE DRIVER SIDE FRAME RAIL THAT WERE RUSTED THROUGH. I TOUCHED THE LINES AND THEY WERE FALLING APART AND FLAKING OFF METAL AT THE TOUCH. I CONTACTED CHEVROLET AND IT WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. THEY QUOTED ME $1,100 TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM. MY TRUCK IS A 2006 I BOUGHT IT BRAND NEW IT HAS 59,500 MILES ON IT AND I PAID RIGHT AT $50,000 FOR MY TRUCK. IT IS UNACCEPTABLE FOR THIS TO HAPPEN IN LESS THAN 10 YEARS OF OWNERSHIP. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE SINCE CHEVROLET USED INFERIOR AND CHEAP PRODUCTS IN THEIR TRUCKS. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THIS. SOMEONE COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED THE OTHER DAY WHEN I WAS DRIVING. I REPLACED ALL OF THE ROTORS AND BRAKE PADS AND ONE CALIPER NOT 9 MONTHS AGO. I NEVER THOUGHT THAT MY METAL LINES WERE COMPROMISED UNTIL I HAD A FAILURE. I HAVE LOST ALOT OF FAITH IN GM DUE TO THIS ISSUE. I AM STILL WORKING WITH GM AND THE DEALER TO GET THE PROBLEM RESOLVED, BUT IT IS NOT LOOKING GOOD. I AM WONDERING HOW MANY OTHER VEHICLES ARE COMPROMISED. I WAS TALKING TO MY UNCLE THE OTHER DAY AND A GENTLEMAN OVERHEARD MY CONVERSATION. HE TOLD ME THAT HE HAD A 2003 2500 CHEVROLET THE BRAKES ALSO FAILED ON. HE WAS TOWING A TRAILER AND TOATLED HIS TRUCK. I AM COMPLETELY OUT OF WARRANTY AS OF NEXT MONTH. GM SAYS TO KEEP MY BILL FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF THE LINES THAT I MAY GET PAID BACK. I DONT THINK THAT IS LIKELY AT ALL. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL BECAUSE SAFETY IS COMPROMISED.

BRAKE LINE FAILURE DUE TO EXCESSIVE CORROSION AS THE LINES LAY ON THE FRAME. LUCKILY, THE BREAK WAS AT HOME AND I WAS ABLE TO GET IT INTO THE SHOP FOR REPAIR. LESS THAN A MONTH LATER, ANOTHER LINE BROKE AS I WAS PULLING INTO MY DRIVE.

LOST BRAKES WHILE DRIVING IN RESIDENTIAL NEIGHBORHOOD DUE TO RUSTED BRAKE LINE. HAD IT TOWED TO MY MECHANIC WHO DID AN INSPECTION AND SAID ALL THE BRAKE LINES WERE RUSTED AT THE BRACKETS HOLDING THE LINES. MY MECHANIC IS IN THE PROCESS OF REPLACING THE BRAKE LINES. I TALKED TO SEVERAL OTHER PEOPLE WITH THE SAME YEAR TRUCK AND BOTH HAD ALSO EXPERIENCED BRAKE LINE FAILURE FROM RUST. TRUCK HAS ONLY 20K MILES AND HAS ONLY BEEN IN THE SALT TWICE AS I HAD AN OLDER VEHICLE I USED WHEN IT SNOWED. GM NEEDS TO CORRECT THIS SAFETY DEFECT.

THE BRAKE LINE BURST WHILE I WAS PULLING MY BOAT TRAILER AND I NARROWLY AVOIDED AN ACCIDENT. WE WERE GETTING READY FOR A LONG TRIP (MARYLAND TO FLORIDA). WE HITCHED OUR TRAILER TO OUR TRUCK AND WERE TESTING LIGHTS, BRAKES, ETC. AT THE CAMPGROUND BEFORE WE LEFT. AS WE TESTED THE BRAKES AT A LOW SPEED, WE REALIZED THE BRAKES DID NOT WORK AT ALL. WE PARKED IT RIGHT THERE ON THE ROAD IN THE CAMPGROUND AND CALLED A TOW TRUCK TO TAKE US TO OUR MECHANIC'S SHOP. DURING A NORMAL STOP AT A LIGHT, JUST AS THE VEHICLE WAS GETTING CLOSE TO A COMPLETE STOP THERE WAS A NOTICEABLE BUMP FELT IN THE BRAKE PEDAL AND RELEASE OF BRAKE APPLICATION ON ITS OWN WHILE STILL PUSHING ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. THIS OCCURRED AS VEHICLE WAS SLOWING, JUST BEFORE A COMPLETE STOP WAS ACHIEVED . AFTER RESEARCHING THE PROBLEM WHICH SEEMS TO BE WELL KNOWN IN AUTOMOTIVE FORUMS AND BY GM. I REMOVED THE FRONT WHEEL SPEED SENSORS, CLEANED THE CORROSION FROM THE MOUNTING PADS AND REASSEMBLED. BEFORE CLEANING THE SENSOR MOUNTING THE PROBLEM WOULD OCCUR 80-90% OF THE TIME BRAKES WERE APPLIED. AFTER CLEANING IT HAS NOT HAPPENED AGAIN. THERE IS A RECALL ON THIS VERY ISSUE ON EARLIER YEAR MODELS, CLEARLY THIS NEEDS TO BE EXPANDED TO MORE MODEL YEARS. IF SOMEONE HAD BEEN IN FRONT OF ME WHEN THIS OCCURRED THERE IS A VERY GOOD POSSIBILITY I WOULD HAVE HIT THE BACK OF THEIR VEHICLE. *TR

I HAVE SINCE HAVE HAD ALL THE BRAKE LINES REPLACED WITH STAINLESS STEEL LINES. I AM LEARNING THAT THIS IS AN ON GOING ISSUE WITH THIS MODEL OF TRUCK AND MY CONCERN SHOULD BE OBVIOUS. MASTER CYLINDER RESERVOIR FLUID LEVEL DROPPED FROM FULL TO ACTIVATION OF BRAKE SERVICE LIGHT. INVESTIGATION OF THE CAUSE LED TO THE DISCOVERY A LEAK IN THE BRAKE LINE FROM THE ANTI LOCK BRAKE ACTUATOR TO THE RIGHT FRONT BRAKE CALIPER. ALL THE BRAKE LINES APPEAR TO BE EXTENSIVELY CORRODED. *TR

I WAS PREPARING TO SLOW DOWN AS I APPROACHED MY DRIVEWAY. WHEN I APPLIED MY VEHICLE'S BRAKES, THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR. MY VEHICLE DID NOT SLOW DOWN AND I HAD TO UTILIZE ME EMERGENCY BRAKE AND ALSO SHIFT INTO A LOWER GEAR IN ORDER TO SLOW DOWN. I WAS UNABLE TO SLOW DOWN ENOUGH TO SAFELY MAKE A TURN AND SUBSEQUENTLY MY VEHICLE TRAVELLED THRU A DITCH AREA AND CAME TO A STOP IN MY FRONT YARD. COMPLETING A CHECK OF MY VEHICLE'S BRAKE SYSTEM, I LEARNED THAT MY MASTER CYLINDER WAS COMPLETELY EMPTY. I HAD MY VEHICLE TOWED TO A LOCAL GARAGE WHERE I WAS TOLD THE VEHICLE'S COMPLETE BRAKING SYSTEM LINES HAD RUSTED AWAY CAUSING ALL BRAKE FLUID LOSS AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. ALL BRAKES LINES WERE REPLACED FROM THE MASTER CYLINDER TO THE ABS MODULE AND THEN TO EACH BRAKE SYSTEM AT THE WHEEL. THE COST OF THE WORK WAS $598.00. MY VEHICLE IS A 2006 MODEL YEAR AND IS IN EXCELLENT SHAPE, HOWEVER I'M VERY UNHAPPY WITH THE BRAKING FLUID LINES FAILING WITH ONLY 52,500 MILES ON MY VEHICLE. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THERE HAS BEEN NO SAFETY RECALL NOTICE ON THE PART OF GENERAL MOTORS. THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP REFUSED TO ASSIST ME WITH THE MATTER AND AT THIS TIME I'M COMPLETING THIS COMPLAINT. THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRANSPORTATION SAFETY ADMINISTRATION NEEDS TO TAKE IMMEDIATE ACTION UPON GENERAL MOTORS TO ENSURE HIGHER QUALITY OF BRAKE LINES ARE INSTALLED INSTEAD OF SUBSTANDARD BRAKE LINES. I WAS LUCKY THAT I WAS NOT INVOLVED IN A MORE SERIOUS ACCIDENT/INCIDENT WITH THE BRAKES FAILING. I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO SEE GENERAL MOTORS REIMBURSE ME IN FULL FOR THE COST OF THE REPAIRS. *TR

IN 39 YEARS OF DRIVING, IT IS THE MOST I EVER PAID FOR A VEHICLE, 48,000 DOLLARS, AND THE MANUFACTURER REFUSES ANY ASSISTANCE. THAT'S THE THANKS FOR BAILING THEM OUT. IT HAS ALSO HAD WIRES TO BLOWER MOTOR BURN, REAR BRAKE ROTORS ROTTED AWAY AT 22,000 MILES, GROUND WIRES UNDER HOOD HAVE ROTTED AND FALLEN OF... I HAVE NEVER HAD A SOLID BRAKE LINE FAIL ON ME BEFORE AND WAS QUITE SHOCKED AT HOW PROGRESSED THE CORROSION WAS. I TAKE CARE OF MY TRUCK AND IT GETS WASHED AND SERVICED REGULARLY. WITH THAT IT GETS USED AS A TRUCK AS WELL. I FEEL THAT THE CORROSION WAS EXCESSIVE AND PERHAPS IS THE RESULT OF A MATERIAL FLAW/CHEAP MATERIALS USED. ENTIRE UNDERCARRIAGE IS RUSTED (FRAME IS PEELING UP IN LAYERS), THERE IS RUST COMING THROUGH THE BUMPERS, ON THE WHEELS, IN THE BED, INSIDE THE DRIVER'S DOOR - BASICALLY EVERYWHERE I LOOK (I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH CHEVROLET IN 2010 ABOUT THE EXCESSIVE RUSTING AND WAS TOLD, AFTER INSPECTION BY LOCAL DEALER, THAT THERE WAS "NO ABNORMAL RUSTING FOUND"). I BABY THIS TRUCK (IT ONLY HAS 26,000 MILES AND IS NOT DRIVEN ON THE ROADS WHEN THEY ARE SALTED) AND KEEP IT VERY CLEAN. I AM AFRAID FOR MY SAFETY AS I DO NOT KNOW WHAT IS GOING TO FAIL NEXT. IN ADDITION, I WAS TOLD THAT THE ROTORS AND CALIPERS ARE RUSTED THROUGH AND MUST BE REPLACED. HOW IS IT POSSIBLE TO CONCLUDE THAT THE CORROSION IS DUE SOLELY TO ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS AND NOT AT ALL DUE TO MATERIAL CHOICE AND LACK OF APPROPRIATE COATING? WE BROUGHT OUR 2006 CHEVROLET SILVERADO WITH AROUND 73,000 MILES ON IT TO A REPAIR SHOP FOR A TUNE UP AND WE WERE TOLD THE FOLLOWING: 'THE FUEL LINES ARE VERY RUSTED (STARTING TO SEEP BACK BY THE TANK AREA) THE BRAKE LINES ARE VERY RUSTED, THE TRUCK WILL NEED REAR BRAKES VERY SOON, ALL BRAKE HOSES WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED, THE BLEEDERS ON CALIPERS ARE RUSTED OUT, THE SHIMMY SHOCK IN THE FRONT END IS BLOWN APART, HAS A LOT OF PLAY IN THE IDLER ARM, FRONT SHOCKS RUSTED & LEAKING, REAR SHOCKS RUSTED, REAR END COVER RUSTED, THE TRANSFER CASE TAIL SHAFT IS LEAKING, THE FRAME IS RUSTED & GETTING THIN IN SPOTS, HAS AT LEAST THREE BROKEN EXHAUST MANIFOLD STUDS' WE UNDERSTAND THAT BRAKE PADS AND CALIPERS ARE USUAL REPAIRS AND MAINTENANCE. HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE IS ONLY SIX YEARS OLD AND THE TRUCK SHOULD NOT BE VERY RUSTED. WE CALLED CHEVROLET AND OPENED A CASE TO REVIEW THE RUST ISSUES. WE BROUGHT THE TRUCK TO A DEALERSHIP AS REQUESTED BY CHEVROLET FOR A VISUAL INSPECTION. USING DOCUMENT ID #2758961, THE TECHNICIANS DETERMINED 'NO REPAIR OR CONSIDERATION SHOULD BE GIVEN FOR THIS CONCERN - SURFACE CORROSION ON UNPROTECTED COMPONENTS WILL VARY WITH AGE AND EXPOSURE. CORROSION ON THESE COMPONENTS WILL VARY WITH AGE AND EXPOSURE. CORROSION ON THESE COMPONENTS HAS NO DETRIMENTAL IMPACTS, EITHER IN SHORT OR LONG TERM DURABILITY." HOWEVER, THEY EXPLAINED THAT IF THEY WERE US, THEY WOULD REPLACE THE BRAKE AND FUEL LINES. THE CHEVROLET CASE WORKER CALLED THE DEALER AND CONFIRMED THE FINDINGS. HE EXPLAINED TO US THAT THE RUST WAS DUE TO ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS AND NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. WE TRIED TO GET A DEFINITION OF ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS, HOWEVER THE WORKER WOULD NOT EXPLAIN FURTHER. . THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN, THE 4-5 VEHICLES IN FRONT OF ME STARTED GOING THROUGH THE INTERSECTION, THE FIRST ACCELERATED INTO THE ADJACENT LANE TO REVEAL CONSTRUCTION CONES IN OUR LANE. THE REMAINING VEHICLES IN FRONT OF ME SLAMMED ON THEIR BRAKES AND I SLAMMED ON MINE. AT THAT INSTANT, MY BRAKE PEDAL SUNK TO THE FLOOR. I REACTED QUICKLY (THANK GOD) AND SWERVED LEFT TO AVOID THE COLLISION. MY TRUCK CAME TO REST ABOUT 10 FEET PAST THE SMALL SEDAN IN FRONT OF ME. I WOULD HAVE WRECKED THE BACK OF THAT CAR AND CAUSED A CHAIN REACTION IN FRONT AND BACK OF ME HAD I NOT BEEN ABLE TO REACT AS QUICKLY AS I HAD. THE REPLACEMENT OF ALL THE BRAKE LINES (THE ONE LEAKING IS AS CORRODED AS THE OTHERS) PLUS FRONT BRAKE WORK IS GOING TO COST ME AROUND $3800. NOT SOMETHING I WAS EXPECTING FROM A 6 YEAR OLD TRUCK, NOR ANYTHING I CAN AFFORD RIGHT NOW.
