I am filing a safety and health complaint regarding a known rear window water intrusion defect on my 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 with approximately 56,000 miles. Despite the severity of the issue, the dealership has refused to provide a permanent repair. This defect is widely documented and has resulted in a recall in Canada, yet no recall exists in the United States—despite significantly more of these vehicles being sold here. The inconsistency in recall coverage is deeply concerning. My vehicle experiences substantial water intrusion that has saturated the rear headliner, rear seat area, and carpeting. This creates a serious health concern, particularly for rear-seat passengers, including children. Prolonged moisture intrusion creates a high likelihood of mold growth beneath interior components, which General Motors has failed to address. There is also a serious safety risk. The rear sliding window heater module is mounted directly to the rear window. It is well known that when this module is exposed to moisture from the leak, it can cause the rear window to shatter or explode. The dealership has acknowledged this risk. A rear window shattering while occupants are in the vehicle could result in serious injury. When covered under bumper-to-bumper warranty, the dealership’s only solution is a “reseal” of the rear window. This is not a permanent repair, and many owners report repeated failures after resealing. This issue is easily verified through widespread consumer complaints. These trucks are expensive vehicles, and owners should not be forced to accept temporary fixes for a defect that presents clear health and safety risks. I respectfully request that NHTSA investigate this issue and take appropriate action.

The rear camera goes out when backing up. This causes a safety hazard due to not being able to see.

We received a recall on this truck 2/2025 showing that there was a transmission control valve defect that was causing excessive wear on the gears. We took it into Sands Chevrolet and they did a repair under warranty. Within a few weeks, the truck again lost power, would not go over 30 MPH and caused a safety issue as it happened while on the highway. We immediately took the truck back to Sands who informed us of the recall and that the transmission needed to be repaired because of the excessive wear under the recall. Sands Chevrolet told us it would be 2 months before they could repair it. However, there was another local shop that could so we took it there and had it repaired within days. The dealership told us to submit our invoice and credit card statement showing that we paid the $5575 out of pocket that we were told we would be reimbursed for. Now, Chevy is denying that there was even a recall on the vehicle.... but I have the letter from GM showing the recall and the local Sands dealership is the one that told us to go get it fixed. I have the scan of the safety recall, but it is not letting me upload it here. It is GM Recall # N242454440

Interior of tailgate fills with rainwater when tailgate is down. Electrical components inside the tailgate are affected by the water/moisture including two rear view cameras, components associated of the power tailgate, and the electronic tailgate latch/lock. The rear-view camera has failed. Cameral failure is also affecting the proximity radar system which is working intermittently. The equipment failures have resulted in several near miss incidents. Warnings appear on the dashboard when attempting back up the vehicle. Proximity radar stops working without warning.

Rear window frame is leaking during rain or heavy dew. Causing saturated headliner, seats and carpet. Mold could develop and become a health factor. My 2 kids always ride in the back seat. This is a known issue for GM and are not taking action to correct this problem. Vehicle started leaking with 25,000 miles.

I own a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD pick-up, VIN: [XXX] . I use this truck primarily to haul a heavy horse trailer and to tow a travel trailer. Ever since I bought this truck I have had a problem with the trailering application. At times it will start working (especially if it has not been used in a while??), but every time I am actively using it there is an issue: •The app will totally blank out giving me a black screen, and/or •I will get a message that my trailer brakes are disconnected. I will stop, disconnect and reconnect the brakes, turn off the engine and restart, and so on. Nothing helps. I have had my truck in to the dealer (Bend Chevrolet) three times to have this repaired. Every time I get the reply that there is nothing they can do, that Chevrolet says this is a software issue and that they are working on it. See Bulletin [XXX] Trailering App is Non-Functional, published 11/5/2020. Chevrolet has been aware of this problem for over 3 years and has not come up with a solution? This feels like they are ignoring it. I have searched on-line and see that many Chevrolet Silverado owners have the same problem and are getting no assistance in solving it. For years. This is a safety problem. I haul in mountainous terrain and cannot afford to have issues with my trailering system, especially the brakes. I would like to see the NHTSA issue a recall on this problem and demand that Chevrolet fix it. Please contact me if you need additional information. I would really like to get this fixed. While plowing, my ABS brake light came on along with a warning that the ESC was disabled and a trailer brake system warning.. This appears to have been a recall for 2020 1500's but I have a 2500. It would appear the recall needs to be expanded.
