WE HAVE A 2001 SILVERADO 3500 THAT SHUT DOWN IN THE MIDDLE OF BALTIMORE TRAFFIC BACK IN 2006. WE HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED AND PAID $644.33 TO HAVE IT FIXED. IT WAS THE CRANK POSITION SENSOR. WE CAME TO FIND OUT THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS IN SOME OF THE 2001'S. BUT GUESS WHAT, OURS IS NO ON THE LIST! I ASKED THE LADY "SO WHO DETERMINES WHICH OF THESE MODEL VINS GET TO BE ON THE RECALL AND WHICH ONES WILL THE CONSUMER HAVE TO PAY FOR. OF COURSE SHE RESPONDED THAT SHE WAS SORRY FOR OUR INCONVENIENCE, BUT SHE COULD NOT HELP. IS THERE ANY WAY TO HAVE OUR TRUCK ON THE RECALL TOO AND GET A REIMBURSEMENT? WE TRULY LOVE OUR TRUCK AND IT HAS TO GO IN FOR THE UBS BRAKE SYSTEM TOO, BUT WE FOUND OUT IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER THAT RECALL EITHER. WHAT GIVES? WE ARE THE ONES WITH THESE TWO PROBLEMS, BUT OUR DOESN'T COUNT? PLEASE HELP. *TR

THE CONTACT CALLED THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS AND TO CONTACT NHTSA. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 64,000. THE ENGINE WOULD RESTART AFTER WAITING FIVE TO TEN SECONDS. THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON TWO DIFFERENT TIMES. THERE WAS A RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 07V521000 (ENGINE AND ENGIN COOLING); HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS EXCLUDED FROM THE RECALL DEFECT. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. I HAVE A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 3500 CREW CAB WITH DUAL WHEELS. SEVERAL TIMES RECENTLY THE TRUCK HAS LOST POWER WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. YESTERDAY MY WIFE WAS DRIVING IT, AND IT SHUT OFF WHILE TURNING A CORNER IN THE CENTER OF EXETER NH. IT LOST POWER STEERING AND THE TRUCK WENT OFF THE ROAD ONTO THE SIDEWALK BY THE TOWN HALL, NARROWLY MISSING PEDESTRIANS. I TOOK IT TO A GARAGE AND FOUND OUT IT IS BEING CAUSED BY THE CRANK SHAFT POSITION SENSOR THEY TOLD ME THERE WAS A DEALER RECALL. I CALLED THE DEALER AND THEY SAID MY VEHICLE ISN'T INCLUDED. CALLED GM AND WAS TOLD MY VIN# DOESN'T MATCH. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 3500. WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED, THE VEHICLE HESITATES AND THE MOTOR SHUTS OFF, AND THE POWER STEERING FAILS. THE VEHICLE WILL RESTART AFTER FOUR OR FIVE ATTEMPTS. THE FAILURE HAS OCCURRED MORE THAN TEN TIMES. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A MECHANIC AND THEY PERFORMED DIAGNOSTIC TESTING, WHICH INDICATED THAT THERE WERE NO FAILURES WITH THE VEHICLE BECAUSE NO ERROR CODE WAS PRODUCED. THE MECHANIC NOTIFIED HIM OF A RECALL FOR HIS MODEL VEHICLE WITH IDENTICAL FAILURES; HOWEVER, THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER WAS UNABLE TO BE FOUND IN THE NHTSA DATABASE. THE DEALER NOTIFIED HIM THE FIRST TIME THE FAILURE OCCURRED AND EACH TIME THEY REPLACED THE GLOW PLUGS. THE MOST RECENT REPAIR LASTED NINE MONTHS, BUT THE FAILURE STILL PERSISTS. VERY DANGEROUS WHEN HAULING A HEAVY LOAD. THIS HAPPENED MORE THAN ONCE, WAS INTERMITTENT AND VARIED IN FREQUENCY. I CHANGED CRANK SENSOR AND PROBLEM HAS NOT OCCURRED. I OWN A 2001 CHEVY SILVERADO K3500 WITH THE 6.0L ENGINE. MY VEHICLE HAS CONSUMED OIL FROM DAY ONE AND THIS PROBLEM IS GETTING WORSE. I TRAVELED TO OHIO LAST MONTH AND USED ONE QUART IN ABOUT 450 MILES. THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS. NOW I MUST GIVE YOU SOME BACKGROUND ON MYSELF. MY PREVIOUS VEHICLE WAS A 1995 GMC SIERRA K3500 WITH A 7.4L ENGINE, BOTH THE 2001 AND THE 1995 I PURCHASED NEW. I FOLLOWED THE MANUFACTURER'S DIRECTIONS ON BREAKING IN THE VEHICLE IN BOTH CASES. THE 1995 VEHICLE NEVER CONSUMED OIL, EVEN AT 145,000 MILES. I CHECK MY OIL AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK, THAT IS A DISGRACE FOR A VEHICLE THAT IS ONLY THREE YEARS OLD. MY VEHICLE ALSO KNOCKS AND PINGS ALL THE TIME. I HAVE CALLED THE DEALERSHIP I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE FROM AT TWO DIFFERENT OCCASIONS AND HAVE RECEIVED TWO DIFFERENT STORIES. I AM TIRED OF THE "RUN AROUND" TREATMENT BY THE DEALER AND BY CHEVY WHEN I CALL THE "CHEVY HELP LINE", "WORK IT OUT WITH THE DEALER" IS ALL I'M TOLD. SECURITY SYSTEM CUT POWER TO FUEL PUMP STOPPING ENGINE, A RESET TAKES 10 MINUTES. THE GM HELP LINE PROVIDED ME WITH THE METHOD OF RESETING THE SECURITY SYSTEM. GM'S HELP LINE ADMITS THIS IS A PROBLEM, BUT HAS NO CURRENT FACTORY UPGRADE OR REPAIR. THE ENGINE STALLS SHORTLY AFTER STARTING, ALLWOING THE VEHICLE TO BE MOVED A FEW FEET (IN MY CASE OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY). *AK
CONSUMER PULLED IN FIELD OF FARM AREA THOUGH GRASS. HE TURNED VEHICLE OFF, LEFT A FEW MINUTES, AND A YOUNG GENTLEMAN TOLD HIM THAT VEHICLE WAS ON FIRE. SMOKE WAS COMING FROM FRONT RIGHT TIRE . HE TRIED TO START VEHICLE, AND VEHICLE STOPPED. GRASS WAS ON FIRE, AND VEHICLE BURNED DOWN TO THE GROUND. FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED OUT. HE WAS HURT A LITTLE BIT.*AK
