TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVER ADO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE ATTEMPTING TO STOP, THE BRAKE PEDAL ABNORMALLY TRAVELED TO THE FLOORBOARD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT ALL THE BRAKE LINES WERE SEVERELY CORRODED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE PARKING BRAKE HAS NOT BEEN WORKING FOR SEVERAL YEARS, EVEN AFTER BRAKE SERVICE ON THE REAR WHEELS. I KNOW OF TWO ADDITIONAL VEHICLES WITH SAME PROBLEM JUST IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD. PARKING BRAKE FAILURE. WHEN NEW THE PARKING BRAKE PEDAL WENT EASILY TO THE FLOOR, BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD HOLD ON A HILL WITH THE TRANSMISSION IN NEUTRAL. DEALER ADVISED THAT ALTHOUGH TIS DIDN'T FEEL RIGHT, IT WAS A NEW DESIGN AND WAS WORKING PROPERLY. MY 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1/2 TON EXT CAB PICKUP'S PARKING BRAKE IS APPARENTLY WORN OUT AND WILL NOT HOLD VEHICLE AT ALL. I HAVE ASK THE LOCAL GM DEALER TO ADJUST THE PARKING BRAKE BUT THEY TOLD ME THEY ARE NOT ADJUSTABLE (WHICH NOW I FOUND OUT WAS NOT TRUE) BUT MUST BE REPLACED. THEY TOLD ME THE REAR BRAKES AND PARKING BRAKES NEED REPLACING MUCH MORE OFTEN THAN THE FRONT BRAKES. MY 2001 CHREVROLET SILVERADO TRUCK HAS ABOUT 35,000 MILES ON IT. I RECENTLY TRIED TO ACTUATE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WHEN PARKED. I DISCOVERED THAT THE BRAKE WILL NOT KEEP THE VEHICLE FROM MOVING. IT PROVIDES VERY LITTLE RESISTANCE WHEN THE ENGINE IS IDLEING AND THE TRANSMISSION IS IN DRIVE OR REVERSE. I KNOW OF NO DAMAGE DONE TO THE BRAKES THAT WOULD CAUSE THIS. THIS COULD RESULT IN THE VEHICLE ROLLING DOWNHILL WITHOUT A DRIVER UNDER CERTAIN CIRCUMSTANCES. IT COULD ALSO RESULT IN INJURY TO A PERSON CHANGING A TIRE OR PERFORMING OTHER MAINTENANCE WHICH REQUIRES THAT THE EMERGENCY BRAKE BE SET.*AK

THE ROTORS WERE COMPOSITE ROTORS, LAYERED METAL INSTEAD OF CAST AND WERE NOT TO BE TURNED OR FACED. THE OTHER IS NOT. THE SYSTEM FAILS REPEATEDLY, MAKING THE DRIVER HESITANT TO USE THE PARKING BRAKE, FOR FEAR OF NOT BEING ABLE TO RESUME MOVEMENT.
