The braking system on my 2015 Chevy Suburban LTZ failed at slow speeds in a parking lot. I have replicated the issue in both forward and reverse. My family's safety was put at risk in that while backing up out of a parking spot the brakes failed completely and I had to push extremely hard on the brake to get the vehicle to stop. That same behavior occurred while pulling forward into a parking spot, almost hitting the car in front of me. I took the vehicle into a Chevrolet dealer today indicating the symptoms and they said there was no recall attached to my VIN. If I pull up to a parking spot and I’m slowly creeping into the spot, say at a popular supermarket, and slowing down the brake pedal stiffens up and it’s almost impossible to press. I feel like my truck may not stop. If I’m on a slight incline and in a line behind another vehicle, I’ve noticed the brake pedal stiffens up then as well. Awhile ago I thought there was a recall for this for my truck and it was something about the vacuum in the brake pedal. This is a super problem. I have five kids and we are on the road a lot. This has been happening a lot but most recently would be today.
Often the brake pedal becomes very hard to push and braking is extremely hindered. There is a recall for this issue that has been done but the vehicle is experiencing the exact same problem again. Dealership says that the vehicle time has expired for anything to be done again. Recall was performed only 5 years ago.
While driving approximately 70 miles an hour and trying to switch lanes, we got a stabilitrack warning and the car shut off for a second and then came back on. the weather was nice and there was no snow or any other adverse conditions. This happened a couple more times on the ride and then when we tried to turn into a parking spot it shut off completely and we had to restart it. We turned stabilitrack off and the car was ok for a couple of short drives. Then driving late at late and we passed another car the same thing happened. Then when we tried to turn our brights on we got the same message. Then we got a brake assist message and then we got a collision alert. The headlights were flickering the rest of the drive and we couldnt use our brights. We had our 4 children in the car and it was shutting down at high speeds and very scary. I looked up our vin and it said that the recalls had been worked on but I dont remember this being done. This has never happended before this. our car would be available for inspection if needed.
When driving through city traffic basically stop and go the brake pedal gets very hard and the car does not stop as smooth or almost not at all. It gets very dangerous.
Continuous "Trailer Brake System" alarm makes the vehicle undrivable due to to distraction
Braking is diminished when vehicle is moving at slow speed and brake pedal is pressed. The vehicle brake assist engages by pulsing, increasing the braking distance by not stopping the vehicle no matter how hard the brake pedal is pushed. Emergency brake is used to prevent vehicle from colliding. This may be related to NHTSA 19V645
I purchased my vehicle after the recall 19V-645 regarding the brake pump was issued. My vehicle was a part of that safety recall, and the module was reprogrammed in September 2019 (N192268490-01). The pump has not been previously replaced according to service records. I purchased my vehicle from a dealership in April 2021. I recently (late 2023) started having issues with my brakes, having increased brake pedal effort, a hard brake pedal, and increased stopping distance. I have had the brake assist alert come on several times. The issue happens more frequently at lower speeds. My park assist alert also comes on regularly when applying the brakes. I have taken my vehicle to GM several times regarding the park assist issues, but they have only cleared the computer codes and cannot figure out why they keep coming back, as there is no detectable issues with the system. I have also brought my vehicle in due to the adaptive cruise control, as it has also caused issues while using it. It will often apply brakes if it detects a vehicle in another lane while driving, causing the vehicle to “slam” on the brakes going at high rates of speed (I.e. driving on the interstate at 80 mph) and has nearly caused accidents, as the vehicle becomes hard to control, and the risk of following vehicles not having the reaction time to avoid a rear-end collision is increased. My particular vehicle does not have an option to switch between regular cruise control, and adaptive cruise control. After talking with GM, they informed me the only way to “fix” the issue is to completely replace the module with an updated module that allows the option to turn off the adaptive cruise control, which is quite costly to the consumer. My vehicle is currently at a GM service department, and has been diagnosed that the brake pump has failed, and needs replaced. They are claiming that it is not covered under the recall. It is not covered under GM’s extended warranty due to mileage restrictions.
Hard breaking at slow speeds. Risk of accident to pedestrian and to vehicle and to structure. This problem has not been reproduced or confirmed by dealer. This problem has not been inspected by manufacturer or police or insurance No warning lights prior to problem..
When trying to brake while parking in a parking spot at low speeds, or so and go traffic my wife and I experience an extremely hard brake pedal that creeps to a stop, almost hitting others and structures.
Brakes failed and became hard to press down on it and would not stop vehicle.
I have a 2015 Chevrolet Suburban that had an issue with the brakes not wanting to stop the vehicle at slow speeds. Several times when we pulled into our garage or a parking space the vehicle would want to glide instead of stopping. I've had several parts replaced and am now hoping the problem is fixed. just picked the car up today from repair shop.
Vehicle is very hard to stop there was a recall which was performed in 2019 and it’s coming back and doing the same thing it takes a lot of brake pedal pressure to stop the Vehicle. It started some time ago but now it’s getting very hard to stop the car
Brakes became very hard to apply and the car could not stop quickly. Needed to replace the vacuum booster pump.
The vehicle component of concern is the braking system. The brake pedal has to be pressed at an unusual rate of pressure to engage the brake system. More concerning is, on several occasions the brakes seem to fail, initiating the ABS system while in fast food lines. This has also occurred while backing up causing the pedal to be jammed to the floor to stop the vehicle. The excessive need for pressure while braking was supposed to be fixed in 2021 by a "simple" recall that simply updated the computer. I had this recall performed, but still have the same braking issues in my 2015 Chevrolet Suburban. I feel that this is a very serious concern and should be addressed. The difference is truly night and day between my wife's vehicle and mine. The braking issue comes with no warnings or alarms. I have had my brakes checked on several occasions to confirm normal brake wear and longevity.
Brake pedal got hard and truck didn’t stop until brake pedal got softer, this been happened few occasions.
After about 10 min idling vehicle, noticed “service brake assist” message. When it was time to pull out onto road, the vehicle did not brake as expected. I had to push much harder on brake pedal, and heard clicking noise. I was in front of the middle school and because the vehicle was going very slow I was able to stop, but could have had an accident if the speed was higher or if I wasn’t strong enough to push pedal harder. This happened today 2/25/2022 and the outside temp is 3F. This seems just like the recall n192268490 on the consumer reports website, but the dealer says this vehicle is not affected even though it is the same year and model name.

My wife drives a 2015 Chevrolet Suburban LTZ. The brake pedal would vibrate when pressed going at slow speed or when reversing for weeks leading up to the break failure; however, no service message would appear on the dashboard instrument panel. On December 17, 2021 my wife was driving when someone in another vehicle crossed the highway right in front of her, when she pressed the brakes, they were very hard to press and the 2015 Suburban was not able to stop. Fortunately, she barely missed colliding with the other vehicle. She was able to coast to a slow speed and pull over into the grass and glide to a stop because the brakes would not work. This was the first time that a "Service Brake Assist" message appeared on the dashboard instrument panel. We had the Suburban towed to the nearest Chevrolet dealership. In researching the problem, there has been a recall issued for this type of failure of the brakes for 2015-2018 Chevrolet Suburbans; however, there is no recall for our Suburban according to the VIN #. Failure of the braking system on a vehicle is very dangerous and can result in injury or death. I strongly believe our vehicle, and other vehicles like ours, should be added to the recall list as soon as possible before someone gets seriously injured or dies due to not being able to stop and crashing into another vehicle, person, or object. The Chevrolet dealership says that since our vehicle is not on the recall list, we are responsible for the charges to fix it; however, I believe that the manufacturer (Chevrolet) should pay for the expenses since this seems to be a defect of the parts that are failing, especially since the Suburban is only 6 years old and has less than 100,000 miles.
The Service Trailer Brake System keeps popping up. Keeps dinging off and on whether you push the dismiss button or not. When this is on I question if the electrical brakes will work when I tow our camper. It is very distracting while driving. Safety Concern for sure!
While vehicle is on if parked or driving the service trailer brake warning will come on and go off repeatedly. Happens randomly.
The break vacuum pump is going out and making vehicle hard to stop and fuel pump or vacuum is leaking gas and smell inside vehicle
The system that is failing is on my Suburban is the Trailer Break System, yes it is available for inspection. The continuous alert is distracting to the point of the vehicle being un-drivable and without the trailer break system functioning properly it puts people in danger due to not being able to safely stop while towing. The dealership said they were unable to reproduce the code. The vehicle has not been inspected by anyone except the dealership. Yes, both a visual and audible alert pops up continuously with a loud “ding” and a “Service Trailer Break System” warning.
The recall issues are still happening. It flashes service brake assist. When at low speeds or in reverse the brake pedal will suddenly become very hard to use and it is very unpredictable. Pedestrians, children and other vehicles have been at risk. We have been calling Chevy for nearly a year with the problem. They kept telling us it was fixed. We called again today and they said because our vehicle has 8k too many miles on it, there is a recall service that could have been done before but now we have to pay for it when we have been calling about it often.
While putting car in reverse brake pedal goes stiff and brakes do not function. I would have to take car out of gear to be able to control it. Also happened on highway going forward once but at low speed. Looked online and saw recalls listed but my vin is not in recall. Dealer says they dont know whats wrong and they have another car there with same problem and they cant figure it out and engineers from Chevrolet do not know why it happens. They have told me it could take days of testing at my expense to figure out the problem and my cost to repair their potentially deadly manufacturing defect.
This car was covered by NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V645000. The repair was completed by the Chevrolet Dealer. The problem has returned and is even more prevalent than before the recall. Bottom line, this repair did NOT fix the issue and this has become a serious safety issue. This is a dangerous situation and someone is going to get injured if Chevrolet does NOT properly fix this issue.
BRAKES FAILED IN A DRIVE THROUGH LINE. SAME ISSUE AS THE RECALL. SUBURBAN HAD THE CORRECTED SOFTWARE UPDATE AND YET IT HAPPENED AGAIN. THIS TIME IT LEAD TO A CRASH REAR ENDING A VEHICLE. NOT ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE TO STOP IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. GM HAS KNOW ABOUT THIS AND THE FIX DIDNT WORK. THIS IS NEGLIGENCE ON THEIR PART.

MY CAR HAD A RECALL FOR BRAKE SYSTEM. I GOT THE RECALL DONE AT A CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP IN DENISON TX AND IT MADE THE BRAKES WHOLE LOT WORSE. NOW IT MAKES LOT OF NOISE AND "SERVICE BRAKE ASSIST" SIGN COMES UP ON DASHBOARD VERY OFTEN. I TALKED TO DEALERSHIP AND CHEVROLET CUSTOMER SERVICE BUT THEY WANT ME TO PAY FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF THE BRAKE PUMP. THE PROBLEM WASN'T THERE BEFORE I TOOK THE CAR IN. AFTER RECENTLY PURCHASING A USED 2015 GM VEHICLE FROM A NON-GM DEALERSHIP, I MADE A SERVICE APPOINTMENT WITH A LOCAL AUTHORIZED GM SERVICE SHOP TO HAVE THREE OUTSTANDING SAFETY RECALL ISSUES ADDRESSED. MY APPOINTMENT WAS FOR 7:30 AM ON 8/25/2020 AND I BROUGHT MY VEHICLE TO THE SHOP IN THE MORNING OF 8/25. AFTER 4:30 PM I RETURNED TO RETRIEVE MY VEHICLE, AND THE SERVICE SHOP HAD NOT EVEN BROUGHT IT IN TO LOL AT THE ISSUES. NO WORK HAD BEEN PERFORMED, DESPITE THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT HAVING MY VEHICLE IN THEIR POSSESSION NOT ONLY DURING THE TIMEFRAME SPECIFICALLY SCHEDULED FOR THEM TO PERFORM THIS SERVICE, BUT THE ENTIRE REMAINDER OF THE WORK DAY. AT TIMES BRAKES DO NOT WORK MAINLY WHEN BACKING UP HOWEVER THIS PROBLEM HAS INCREASINGLY GOTTEN WORSE AND THE BRAKES AND ROTORS ARE ABSOLUTELY PERFECT. BRINGING TRUCK TO ATLANTIC CHEVY TODAY. THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED 3 WEEKS AGO TO UPDATE SOFTWARE RELATED TO A RECALL ISSUE WITH THE BRAKE VACUUM AND DEGRADED BRAKING POWER. THE BRAKES ON THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY CHANGED AS I WAS PARKING MAKING IT HARD TO STOP. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE NEAREST DEALER AND I WAS TOLD THAT THE MASTER CYLINDER AND VACUUM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER IS CHARGING ME $686 FOR THE MASTER CYLINDER AND TOLD ME THAT THE VACUUM REPLACEMENT WOULD BE COVERED BY GM BUT THAT THE PART HAS BEEN IN BACKORDER FOR WEEKS WITH NO ETA. I HAD TO FLY BACK HOME AND HAVE NO LOANER CAR FROM GM CLAIMING THAT THE ISSUE DOES NOT WARRANT A LOANER, YET I HAVE NO IDEA WHEN I WILL GET BY SUBURBAN BACK. I FILED A CLAIM WITH GM AND HAVE YET TO RECEIVE A CALL. GM HAS KNOWN OF THIS ISSUE FOR YEARS AND HAS DONE NOTHING TO ADRESS IT. THE SOFTWARE FIX DID NOT WORK AS I HAD MY TRUCK SERVICED 3 WEEKS AGO. GM NEEDS TO STAND BY THEIR PRODUCT AND MAKE SURE THEY FIX THE BRAKING ISSUE ASAP OR PURCHASE THEIR CARS BACK DUE TO THE GRAVITY OF THE SAFETY ISSUE.

I WAS EXPERIENCING NO PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKES, BUT RECEIVED NOTICE NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 19V645. TOOK VEHICLE IN TO MARKLEY MOTORS ON NOVEMBER 1, 2019 FOR RECALL. NOTICED NO DIFFERENCE. ON DECEMBER 15, 2019 WHILE BACKING UP AT A SLOW SPEED IN A PARKING GARAGE, BRAKES FELT NOTICEABLY DIFFERENT, AND REQUIRED ALL MY EFFORT TO STOP. TOOK VEHICLE TO LEN LYALL CHEVROLET IN DENVER, WHERE THEY ADVISED ME THAT THE BRAKE VACUUM PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I FEEL THAT THE RECALL WAS INSUFFICIENT AND SHOULD HAVE COVERED THE ACTUAL PROBLEM, WHICH IS EVIDENTLY A DEFECTIVE VACUUM PUMP.

IN FALL OF 2018 THE HYDRAULIC POWER BRAKE ASSIST SYSTEM FAILED ME IN A CROWDED PARKING LOT. I TOOK MY CAR TO MY CHEVROLET DEALER AND THEY REPLACED THE HYDRAULIC BRAKE SYSTEM FOR ALMOST $500 OUT OF POCKET. NOW THAT A RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED CHEVROLET REFUSES TO REIMBURSE ME FOR A PROBLEM THAT EXISTED FOR ME ALMOST YEAR AGO AND NEARLY CAUSED A BAD ACCIDENT.

THE DEALER REPROGRAMMED THE BRAKE CONTROL MODULE; HOWEVER, THE REPAIR DID NOT CORRECT THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THAT THE REPAIR WOULD ONLY REPROGRAM THE MODULE AND THE VACUUM PUMP WOULD NOT BE REPLACED. AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC ALSO STATED THAT THE BRAKE VACUUM PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 138,746.

THEY STATED THAT GM KNOWS THERE IS A PROBLEM BUT DUE TO MILEAGE MY VEHICLE IS NOT COVERED. DUE TO LIVING IN THE SOUTH I CAN NOT AFFORD TO HAVE A CAR AND NOT HAVE AIR. SO WE FIXED THE CONDENSER OUT OF POCKET. 1ST-THE CONDENSER PART WAS ON A NATIONAL BACK ORDER AND THEY STATED THAT IT COULD TAKE UP TO A MONTH TO RECEIVE THE PART. ALERT THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE MANUFACTORY MAKING CONDENSERS FOR GM CARS. 2ND-THE PART WAS $200-300, ALTHOUGH THE SERVICE WAS $1100. 3RD-6 MONTHS AFTER THE REPLACEMENT OF THE CONDENSER AND ALL WORKING FINE, PAYING OUT OF POCKET. THE TRANSMISSION GOES OUT AND THE CONNECTION IS ASSOCIATED WITH THE REPLACEMENT OF THE CONDENSER. GM IS AWARE OF THIS ISSUE BUT ONLY WANTS TO ASSIST WITH PEOPLE WHO MILEAGE IS LESS THAN 60K. THERE IS OBVIOUSLY A SERIOUS PROBLEM AND GM HAS NOT TAKEN OWNERSHIP! TOTAL COST IN 2YRS FOR REPAIRING AND FIXING 1PART THAT LEAD TO 3PARTS $4.5K.

THESE VACUUM PUMPS NEED TO REPLACED AND CHEVY NEEDS TO STAND BEHIND THE ISSUE.THE PEOPLE THAT DON'T HAVE 600 BUCKS TO REPLACE THESE PUMPS ARE DRIVING AROUND WITH A LOADED WEAPON ON THE STREETS IF THEY ARE OUTSIDE THE PARAMETERS OF THEIR BULLETIN. I KNOW CHEVY WILL DO THE RIGHT THING AND RECALL AND FIX THIS BRAKE PROBLEM. THIS WAS AT SLOW SPEEDS IN A GAS STATION BACKING TO GET CLOSER TO THE GAS PUMP. THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT, NO REPORT FILED, OR POLICE CALLED BUT THIS COULD HAVE ENDED POORLY.

I WAS DRIVING MY 2015 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN WITH 7 FAMILY MEMBERS AT ABOUT 45 MPH AS WE WERE COMING INTO A CITY. TWO OF US STARTED TO HEAR A SLIGHT SQUEAL LIKE WHEN A BELT SLIPS. AFTER THAT I SHUT OFF THE A/C TO SEE IF IT WAS THAT. IT WAS NOT. ABOUT THAT TIME TRAFFIC STARTED TO SLOW DOWN IN FRONT OF ME. WHEN I STEPPED ON THE BRAKE TO SLOW DOWN IT WAS HARD AND AT THE BOTTOM OF THE PEDAL STROKE. I LIFTED THE PEDAL WITH MY FOOT AND IT JUST FELL BACK DOWN. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE SUBURBAN TO STOPPED IN TIME BEFORE HITTING THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. I HAD TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE CAUTIOUSLY FOR ANOTHER MILE OR SO TO FIND A SAFE SPOT TO PULL OFF. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED 90 MILES TO A DEALER CLOSE TO A RELATIVE AS WE LIVE ANOTHER 250 MILES AWAY. WHEN I TALKED TO THE DEALER, HE SAID THERE WAS A SERVICE BULLETIN FOR THIS ISSUE BUT I BELIEVE HE AID IT WAS ONLY COVERED UP TO 69,000 MILES. OUR SUBURBAN HAS 108,000 MILES ON IT AS WE LIVE IN A VERY RURAL LOCATION. IT IS 45 MILES ON WAY TO THE GROCERY STORE. I HAVE OWNED GM PRODUCTS ALL MY LIFE AND HAVE NEVER BEEN AS DISAPPOINTED IN THEIR HANDLING OF THEIR CUSTOMERS AS I AM NOW. THIS ISSUE WITH THE BRAKE VACUUM PUMP HAS BEEN A KNOWN ISSUE AND THEY ARE NOT COVERING THE REPAIR OF IT.

IF I IMMEDIATELY DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL AND PRESS IT AGAIN IN QUICK SUCCESSION THE PEDAL REGAINS PRESSURE BUT DOES NOT REGAIN NORMAL BRAKE FUNCTIONALITY.

THE VEHICLE IS A 2015 WITH ONLY 35,000 MILES. THE VACUUM PUMP (THE FAILURE) IS BOLTED TO THE ENGINE AND ENGINE-DRIVEN AND LUBRICATED BY ENGINE OIL WHICH PUTS MY ENGINE AT RISK. YET NONE OF THIS IS COVERED BY THE POWER TRAIN WARRANTY. THIS IS NOT A SLOW, BUT A SUDDEN FAILURE ITEM. I'M RARELY SCARED DRIVING A VEHICLE, BUT THIS WAS SCARY. IF A PEDESTRIAN WOULD HAVE WALKED IN FRONT ON THE VEHICLE, I WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO STOP. PUSHING WITH MY MAXIMUM EFFORT, SUBURBAN TOOK SEVERAL FEET TO STOP FROM AN IDLE CRAWL SPEED. WHEN THIS OCCURS, PEDAL FEELS "HARD" AND HAS ALMOST NO STROKE. HARD PEDAL / COMPROMISED BRAKES LASTED ~4 MINUTES BEFORE CONDITION "CORRECTED" ITSELF. THIS OCCURRED 4/19/2019. I'VE DRIVEN VEHICLES WITHOUT POWER BRAKES (BY DESIGN). I AM ABLE TO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM WITH CONSISTENCY. AT LOW ENGINE SPEED, THE BRAKES BECOME HARD TO PUSH AFTER 4 OR 5 PEDAL APPLICATIONS. THE POWER BOOSTER IS NOT GETTING ENOUGH VACUUM AT LOW ENGINE SPEEDS TO MAINTAIN SAFE BRAKING PRESSURES.

AFTER SEARCHING I FOUND THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THESE VEHICLES WHICH I WAS NOT AWARE OF. THE PART HAS BEEN REPLACED WITH A NEW UPGRADED PART WHICH SHOULD NOT FAIL INDICATING THAT THERE WAS AN ISSUE WITH THE ORIGINAL PUMP. GM IS NOT ACKNOWLEDGING THE PROBLEM WITH THESE PUMPS AND I WORRY IS GOING TO WAIT FOR A SERIOUS ACCIDENT TO OCCUR BEFORE THEY DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. VACUUM PUMP FAILED (ACCORDING TO DEALERSHIP) AT APPROX 56,000 MILES. ALMOST CAUSED A WRECK DUE TO LOSS OF BRAKES (WITHIN INCHES OF HITTING SOMEONE). THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS/SIGNS/INDICATIONS OF FAILURE, SUDDEN AND COMPLETE LOSS OF BRAKE POWER. DRIVER HAD TO PRESS BRAKE PEDAL COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR, ONLY THEN DID THE VEHICLE EVENTUALLY STOP AFTER SEVERAL FEET. PUMPED BRAKES TO CHECK FOR AIR IN LINE, PEDAL BECAME HARD AS A ROCK. LUCKILY THIS OCCURRED AT A LOW SPEED (PULLING UP TO A DRIVE THRU LINE). IF ON THE STREET AT HIGHER SPEED, ISSUE WOULD OF CAUSE A SERIOUS WRECK. WE WERE FORCED TO ABANDON THE VEHICLE, PARK IT OVERNIGHT AND TOW IT TO THE LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALER THE NEXT MORNING. BRAKES APPEARED TO WORK FOR TECH AT FIRST, BUT UPON FURTHER INSPECTION AND AFTER A CALL TO US FOR MORE INFO, THE VACUUM PUMP WAS SAID TO BE FAILING, LOSING BREAK POWER AFTER A COUPLE PRESSES OF THE PEDAL (HINTS WHY THIS FAILURE OCCURRED IN STOP-GO TRAFFIC). VACUUM PUMP IS BEING REPLACED AS WE SPEAK, BUT WE STILL DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING A VEHICLE THAT CAN HAVE THIS MANY SAFETY ISSUES AT THIS PRICE POINT AND AT THIS AGE; BRAKES, VIBRATION AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS A.K.A THE "CHEVY SHAKE" THAT HAS NOT BEEN FIXED OR ACKNOWLEDGED BY CHEVROLET AFTER SEVERAL TRIPS TO DEALER, TIRE RECALLS, AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THE A/C DUE TO FAILURES (AND IT DID FAIL AT 36,000), AND NOW A POWER STEERING RECALL, JUST TO NAME A FEW.

AT THAT POINT I THOUGHT I WOULD TRY TO GUIDE THE CAR OUT OF THE THE WAY OF THE BUSES AND CHILDREN WITH THE EMERGENCY BRAKE SO I TURNED IT OFF COMPLETELY AND UPON RESTARTING THE CAR THE BRAKE WAS FUNCTIONAL AGAIN. I AM TAKING THE CAR TO CHEVY TODAY BUT THEY SAY THERE IS NO RECALL ON THE ISSUE HOWEVER, IN RESEARCHING WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED I HAVE FOUND MANY SIMILAR ACCOUNTS OF BRAKE FAILURE AT LOW SPEED IN 2015 SUBURBANS. IN OCTOBER 2017 WE EXPERIENCED BRIEF PERIODS WHERE BRAKE PEDAL BECAME RIGID AND IMPOSSIBLE TO DEPRESS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO OUR LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALER. WE DESCRIBED IN DETAIL THE RIGID BRAKE PEDAL. THE DEALER WANTED TO DO PUT NEW BRAKE PADS AND TURN THE ROTORS. I THOUGHT IT WAS STRANGE THAT A VEHICLE WITH JUST OVER 40 THOUSAND MILES WOULD NEED NEW BRAKES, BUT WE HAD THE WORK DONE. THE DEALER ALSO WANTED TO REPLACE THE VACUUM HOSE WHICH POWERS THE BRAKE SYSTEM. THIS WORK WAS ALSO DONE. NEXT, ON FRIDAY MARCH 23, 2018 WE WERE TRAVELING ON AN INTERSTATE AT A HIGH SPEED WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL BECAME IMPOSSIBLE TO DEPRESS. WE WERE VERY FORTUNATE NOT TO CAUSE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO A DEALER AND RENT A CAR. THE FOLLOWING WEEK WE WERE CONTACTED BY THE DEALER DOING THE REPAIRS. OUR SUBURBAN HAD A VACUUM PUMP FAILURE. THIS CAUSED TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE. AFTER SOME RESEARCH I DISCOVERED THAT THIS VEHICLE'S ENGINE DOES NOT PRODUCE ENOUGH VACUUM TO POWER THE BRAKES (UNLIKE EVERY OTHER VEHICLE ON THE ROAD). IN ANY OTHER CAR THE ONLY WAY YOU LOSE SUCTION FOR YOUR BRAKES IS IF THE ENGINE STOPS. IN OUR SUBURBAN THE ENGINE CAN BE RUNNING FINE AND YOU MAY OR MAY NOT HAVE BRAKES. THE WARNING SYSTEM IS TOTALLY USELESS AS IT ISN'T TRIGGERED UNTIL YOU EXPERIENCE TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE WITHOUT ANY WARNING. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT HAVING VACUUM PUMP REPLACED THE DEALER ALSO EXPLAINED THAT ALL FOUR MAGNETIC RIDE SHOCKS/STRUTS WERE LOCKED IN PLACE AND NOT FUNCTIONING AT ALL. THE CAR CAME TO A STOP AFTER ABOUT 75 METERS. AT NO TIME BEFORE OR DURING THE EVENT DID THE CAR SIGNAL A BRAKING SYSTEM PROBLEM. IN FACT IT STILL SHOWED NO SYSTEM INDICATOR OF A BRAKE PROBLEM 3 DAYS LATER WHEN IT WAS DELIVERED TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE CAR HAS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED, HAVING JUST UNDERGONE A 60K MILE SERVICE AT THE DEALERSHIP. THE LACK OF THE VEHICLE'S RECOGNITION THAT A CRITICAL FAILURE IN THE BRAKING SYSTEM HAD OCCURRED POSED A SERIOUS AND IMMEDIATE THREAT TO PASSENGERS AND SURROUNDING TRAFFIC. AS A PHYSICIAN I CAN ATTEST THAT A COLLISION AT THAT SPEED WOULD HAVE SEVERELY INJURED OR EVEN KILLED THOSE INVOLVED. THIS PROBLEM WITH THE 2015 CHEVY SUB HAS REPORTED TO NHTSA BEFORE - THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED EVENT. THE SERVICE CENTER REPORTED TO ME THAT A VACUUM PUMP FAILURE WAS TO BLAME - I BELIEVE THIS IS A MORE COMPLEX ENGINEERING PROBLEM IN THAT THE VEHICLE DID NOT DETECT A PROBLEM DESPITE THE FAILURE CREATING A LIFE THREATENING SCENARIO. I SPOKE WITH THE SERVICE MANGER AND HE WAS GOING TO CALL BACK TO SET UP ANOTHER APPOINTMENT. ON 11/9 THE ENGINE OIL LIGHT CAME ON SAYING ENGINE OIL LOW ADD OIL 48% REMAINING. PUT A QUART IN AND MADE APPOINTMENT AT SUPERIOR CHEV TO HAVE OIL CHANGED. AT THAT TIME THE TECHNICIAN SAID THERE WERE QUITE A FEW RECALLS SO JUST MAKE ANOTHER APPOINTMENT AND HAVE OIL CHANGE AND RECALLS DONE HOWEVER HE PROCEED TO CHECK THE OIL AND EVEN WITH THE QUART ADDED THE DIPSTICK CAME BACK DRY. SHOCKED NOT WANTING TO BELIEVE THAT ALM HAD NOT ONLY FAIL TO FIX THE BRAKES THEY DIDN'T EVEN CHANGE THE OIL, BRAKES ARE A SAFETY ISSUE CARS GO THROUGH A PID AND THINGS OF THIS NATURE ARE CORRECTED BEFORE PUTTING INTO INVENTORY. MY FAMILY AND I COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY HURT DUE TO THE NEGLIGENCE OF ALM. I HAD NOT EVEN REACH THE FIRST PAYMENT AND ALL THIS HAPPENING. AND THE SERVICE MANAGER NEVER CALLED BACK . THE BRAKES WORKED SO I BEGAN DRIVING VERY CAUTIOUSLY AND STUCK TO BACK ROADS AND STAYED UNDER 35 MPH. THE BRAKES FAILED TWICE MORE AT A STOP SIGN AND A RED LIGHT, WHILE I WAS DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS. I DROVE THE CAR ONE MORE TIME A FEW HOURS LATER AND HAD COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE EVERY TIME I TRIED TO STOP. I HAD TO EITHER THROW THE CAR INTO PARK, OR DRIVE INTO A PARKING LOT TO SLOW DOWN. I HAD IT TOWED TO A SERVICE CENTER AT THE CHEVY DEALERSHIP. THE VEHICLE IS UNDER 3 YEARS OLD, HAS ABOUT 60,000 MILES ON IT, HAS BEEN KEPT IN GREAT CONDITION, HAS ON TIME OIL CHANGES, NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT, AND HAS NEW TIRES. THE CAR HAD NO SQUEALING OR GRINDING TO SHOW WEAR AND TEAR, OR ANY OTHER INDICATOR THE BRAKES WOULD FAIL. THE DEALERSHIP MAINTAINS THAT THIS IS NOT COVERED BECAUSE WE ARE OUT OF WARRANTY, HOWEVER, WE HAVE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY THAT WE ARE USING TO FIX THIS ISSUE. THERE IS 4 INCHES OF SPACE BETWEEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND SIDE OF THE CAR BODY ON THE RIGHT SIDE. THIS IS PLENTY OF ROOM TO RELOCATE THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL TO THE RIGHT, PERHAPS SO THAT THERE IS THE WIDTH OF A MAN'S SHOE SOLE BETWEEN THE TWO PEDALS.
