We were sitting in a parking lot with the engine running and heard an explosion in the vehicle. Later we discovered that the left rear, side curtain air bag had deployed. Horn has been inoperable for months cruise control hasn't worked in years steering wheel radio controls don't work. No appointment reason for any of it. Pass air bag off warning light red Air bag light is usually on but not always.
I was involved in an accident last year where I took out a gaurd rail next to a building. My air bags never deployed and now my car will not run.
I was sent a notification in February 2021 to notify of a recall for the airbags on my Tahoe. I have received no further information from General Motors, Chevrolet or the local dealer. The notice says a severe injury or death could result from the malfunction. Seven months is not timely. I checked the General Motors website and it states no parts or repairs are available. I will contact them also so see if this can be escalated. Dangerous.
The contact owns a 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe. While the contact's daughter was entering traffic at 65 MPH, the vehicle in front made an abrupt stop. As a result, the contact's daughter was unable to stop the vehicle in time and crashed into the rear of the vehicle. The contact was concerned that no air bags deployed during the impact. In addition, the contact stated that the OnStar feature failed to activate and it was concluded that it was due to the sensors. During the impact, the contact's daughter's head hit the steering wheel and caused an injury in which physical therapy was required on the weekly basis. The vehicle was towed and a police report was filed. The contact also wanted to advise that vehicle was included in NHTSA Campaign Number 21V52000 (Air Bags). The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 139,000.

RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE GM RECALL: N212328760. MADE AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE THE RECALL WORK COMPLETED WITH SIMPSON CHEVROLET IN IRVINE CA. WHEN WE LEFT THE CAR WE WERE TOLD THAT THEY HAVE TO GO UNDER THE DASH TO DO THE WORK, AND IF THEY BREAK OR CRACK THE DASHBOARD, WE WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIRS. WE DID NOT HAVE THE WORK COMPLETED AS THE NOTICE SAYS THE SERVICE WILL BE PERFORMED FOR YOU AT NO CHARGE. THEY ALSO INFLATED THE MILEAGE BY 9,000 MILES.

I WAS NOTIFIED JULY 2016 BY US MAIL THAT MY VEHICLE IS INVOLVED IN GM RECALL 49152 FOR THE PASSENGER SIDE TAKATA AIRBAG INFLATOR. I HAVE NEVER RECV'D ANY FURTHER COMMUNICATION FROM GM. I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH NHTSA 4/10/19 (ODI #11195391). I MAILED REQUESTED DOCS TO NHTSA 5/15/19. I HAVE NOT HEARD BACK FROM ANYONE AND THE ISSUE WITH THE TAKATA AIRBAG INFLATOR HAS NOT BEEN ADDRESSED AFTER 4 YEARS OF WAITING FOR A REMEDY.

TAKATA INFLATORS. I WAS CONTACTED SEVERAL TIMES OVER THE PAST 2 YEARS THAT MY VEHICLE WAS PART OF THE RECALL. EVERYTIME I HAVE CONTACTED THE DEALER I WAS TOLD THERE WAS BE REMEDY IT THIS TIME. I DROVE MY VEHICLE IN THE MORNING AND THEN PARKED IT FOR ABOUT 2.5 HOURS. WHEN I STARTED MY VEHICLE THE GAS GAUGE SHOWED MY CAR WAS EMPTY, EVEN THOUGH I HAD JUST RECENTLY FILLED UP AND HAD ONLY GONE ABOUT 80 MILES ON THE TANK, MY AIRBAG READINESS LIGHT STAYED ON, AND NONE OF MY GAUGES WERE FUNCTIONING. ALSO, THE LIGHT FOR THE PASSENGER AIR BAG ABOVE MY REVIEW MIRROR DIDN'T ILLUMINATE AT ALL. I DROVE IT FOR A FEW SECONDS AND TRIED TURNING IT OFF AND THEN BACK ON, BUT NOTHING CHANGED. AFTER DRIVING IT FOR A FEW MILES, I PARKED AND TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AGAIN. WHEN I TURNED IT BACK ON, EVERYTHING BEGAN WORKING AGAIN. I BELIEVE THIS IS AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE, BUT WHEN TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP, I COULD NOT GET IT TO REPLICATE THE ISSUE. BESIDES THE OBVIOUS DANGER OF NOT HAVING ANY GAUGES WHILE DRIVING, MY FEAR IS THAT THE AIRBAGS WOULD NOT WORK PROPERLY IN AN ACCIDENT.

I PROVIDED RECEIPT OF PAYMENT FOR REGISTRATION AND ALL DOCUMENTS ON RECALL AND TEMPORARY REGISTRATION, THE OFFICER WAS NICE ENOUGH TO LET ME GO. HE DID MENTION VEHICLE CAN BE TOWED AWAY. I WAS TRAVELOING WITH MY THEN [XXX] SON AND DAUGHTER. IMEEDIATELY TOOK THE VEHICLE INTO THE DEALERSHIP ONLY TO WAIT OVER A MONTH, WITHOUT A VEHICLE, AND NEVER GIVEN THE OPTION OF A RENTAL OR LOANER VEHICLE. MY VEHICLE ALSO STARTED TAKING OFF ON ITS OWN, TOOK EXTRA PRESSURE TO STOP & RPM WOULD FLUCTUATE SPORADICALLY. AFTER CONTACTING A DEALER, I WAS TOLD THERE WAS CAMPAIGN TO REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY SENSOR BUT IT HAD EXPIRED WHILE THE PREVIOUS OWNER HAD POSSESSION AND WAS TOLD I'D HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR AND WOULD POSSIBLY HAVE TO REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY. AFTER REPLACING THE SENSOR, MY VEHICLE'S RPM STILL FLUCTUATES UPON STOPPING AND IDLE IS ROUGH. VERY UPSET CHEVROLET CUSTOMER NOW.

THERE ARE VERY LARGE CRACKS ON MY DASH BOARD, THE WORST ONE BEING AROUND THE AIRBAG PLASTIC COVER ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE DASH! THE CRACKS ARE LOCATED SPECIFICALLY AROUND THE PASSENGER AIRBAG CAUSING A SAFETY ISSUE FOR VINYL SHRAPNEL BEING LAUNCHED AT PASSENGERS IN THE CABIN UPON AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT. THIS IS SIMILAR TO THE CRISIS FACED BY TOYOTA. GM IS NEGLECTING THE SAFETY OF ITS CUSTOMERS BY ALLOWING THIS TO OCCUR. THE NUMBER OF VEHICLES EXPERIENCING THE EXACT SAME CRACKS, DOWN TO THE SIZE AND EXACT LOCATION, CONSTITUTES A DESIGN FLAW IN THE LOCATION OF THE MOUNTING POINTS WHICH IS CAUSING UNEVEN DISTRIBUTION OF WEIGHT AS WELL AS POINT STRESSES. IN ADDITION TO REPLACING SIX AIRBAGS, LIGHT FIXTURES, PLASTIC MOLDING, THE ROOF PANEL AND FABRIC/LINER ARE ALL DAMAGED. AT THIS POINT, THE DEALER IS NOT HELPING AT ALL. WE HAVE CONTACTED GM BUT THEY HAVE NOT RESPONDED AFTER 2 DAYS. WE BELIEVE THIS IS NOT ONLY A PRODUCT LIABILITY ISSUE THAT GM SHOULD REPAIR, BUT ALSO A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET TAHOE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE MECHANIC ADVISED HIM THAT THE CLOCK SPRING NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED FOR THE CLOCK SPRING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR HIS VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 45,000. THERE IS A VERY LARGE CRACKED AREA ON THE DASHBOARD ON THE DRIVERS SIDE NEAR THE SPEEDOMETER AREA. MY CONCERN IS THAT THIS MAY SOME HOW DEPLOY THE AIR BAG OR OTHER MECHNICAL INSTRUMENTS IN THIS AREA. *TT
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET TAHOE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 75 MPH, THE AIR BAGS INADVERTENTLY DEPLOYED AND CAUSED THE CONTACT TO SUSTAIN A BROKE NOSE. THE CONTACT'S INJURIES WERE TREATED AT A LOCAL HOSPITAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THEY WERE IN THE PROCESS OF DIAGNOSING THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. 2008 CHEVROLET TAHOE LTZ HAS HAD SERVICE AIRBAG WARNINGS DISPLAYED SINCE THE DAY WE PURCHASED IT NEW FROM THE CHEVROLET DEALER. DEALER REPAIRED DAY OF PURCHASE AND IT WAS BEEN RETURNED TO DEALER THREE ADDITIONAL TIMES FOR THE SAME PROBLEM; SERVICE AIRBAG LIGHT ILLUMINATES IN THE DRIVER INFORMATION CENTER. WE'VE RECEIVED A DIFFERENT REPORT OF THE PROBLEM AND THE SOLUTION EACH TIME FROM THE DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT. THE MOST RECENT TIME, ONSTAR ACTUALLY CALLED THE VEHICLE AND TOLD US THEY WERE RECEIVING AIRBAG WARNINGS FROM THE VEHICLE AND THAT THE AIRBAGS MAY NOT DEPLOY IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT.
