My truck Keeps Shutting off and steering locks up
Vacuum pump and vacuum pump belt replacement. Experiencing increased brake pedal effort, hard brake pedal, and increased stopping distance. Confirmed by an auto shop and mechanic that this is the issue. There was special coverage given by General Motors to this vehicle to address this issue that expired in November (but I did not know that this existed). The vehicle has not yet hit 150,000 miles. Request to have my Tahoe special coverage warranty extended to address this issue.
Service Trailer Brake system message is appearing.
While driving at low speeds, I am experiencing difficulty with braking. The brake becomes very hard to press down and it takes me longer to stop. I researched this and came across a recall for a vacuum pump issue. I believe this is exactly what is wrong with my vehicle. However, when I input my VIN into the recall website, it says my vehicle is not included in the recall. How can I get this issue covered without having to pay out of pocket (we were quoted over $700). I fear that I may cause an accident if I am unable to stop.
The vacuum pump has failed once again and it was repaired via a recall in 2019.
Brakes shutter in reverse. Sometimes don’t work when backing out. Almost as if brakes go limp or no connection

When trying to brake the Tahoe seems to not want to stop. The Tahoe comes to a rolling stop or like it is in sand trying to stop. It eventually stops but not when you want it to. Happens more at low speeds then high speeds.. no lights have indicated a problem. And doesn’t do it all the time but you as a driver can’t trust the brakes! I have had my mechanic look at it he can’t find a problem because when he drives it the Tahoe won’t do it for him. Hasn’t been in an accident yet
When I am going slow backing up, it feels like I have no breaks. Also, if I am pulling into a parking place real slow, it feels like I have no breaks and the truck continues to roll.
Went to start my vehicle 10min prior to me taking off. Five min into my drive I felt my Tahoe start to lose power stop shifting. Once i was able to pull over to a safe location put the car into park and put the car back into drive and the car will not move.
On Wednesday, 11/15/23, I was sitting in my vehicle while it was parked and running for several minutes. After a few minutes, the alert chime went off and the message "Service Trailer Brake System" was displayed on the dash notifications. This alert persisted for several minutes. Since this initial incident, the same alert has displayed 3 or 4 more times, but while driving. It repeats persistently, causing a major distraction, blocking my speedometer, and disabling bluetooth features. I nearly wrecked because of the distraction and have not been able to tow my trailer because of the risk of of the trailer brakes not working. I have an appointment scheduled with my mechanic on 11/28/23 to get this repaired, but have recently learned of several incidents of this same alert from other GM vehicle owners. This seems to be a defective wire harness and needs to be recalled as it is unsafe and renders the vehicle useless for many intended purposes.
While driving the breaks failed to work. Then when I started pumping the brakes again it took longer than normal to respond and I had to press really hard. I was only going a few miles per hour in a parking lot. Now 5 days later it's happening all the time. It's also making a click noise when I press the pedal.
While driving I periodically receive a notification on the dash to "Service Trailer Brake System". The message just randomly comes up with an abrupt warning noise which is a distraction and startles you until it goes away. I don't tow anything with the vehicle. The notification happens about once a month when driving and eventually goes away after a few minutes. I do mostly interstate driving and when the warning comes up, it startles you and you feel the need to pull over immediately. The notification noise is loud and a distraction. I will be taking it to a Chevrolet dealership. I have an appointment late August. This has been going on periodically for months.
In approximately December of 2015, we purchased a 2015 Chevy Tahoe LT from CARR Chevrolet. We chose GM for the reputation, under the belief if we took care of our vehicle and had it maintained by the dealer, it would last 12-15 years. This was NOT our experience.Three years after we purchased the vehicle, the engine died. We were assured this was an anomaly and GM replaced at "no cost", as it was a "manufacturing error". CARR service convinced me it was “great”, as now my vehicle would last even longer. I did not question and blindly trusted those I viewed as trained, skilled professionals. Fast forward to present time, my vehicle is 7 years old (90,000 mi) and never missed a single service. Out of the blue, the transmission dies. I was initially told this is “normal" and “happens” to a tune of $8400 plus maintenance and other wear and tear for a total of $10,000+. This did not sit well with me and I questioned the validity. I requested that CARR give me a quote to buy back the car and they initially refused to give decent price. I contacted GM to complain. After many more days, I was contacted and offered that GM and CARR would carry 70% of the cost of the transmission. I agreed with intent to sell/trade on my own. After many weeks, I picked up my Tahoe and paid $3,400 and headed back to Lake Oswego. As I entered downtown Lake Oswego on a slight hill, coming to a 4 way stop, my brakes completely failed…. I barely missed careening into the back of a car, as they naturally moved forward. I contacted CARR service supervisor, sobbing and shaking after the events and he immediately arranged for a tow. I then contacted the investigator. After many days, the GM investigator response, “it’s fixed free of charge”. I was told it was “known” that these cars “could” have a problem with the brakes, which is why there was an unlimited warranty should it occur. I expressed that I had zero trust in GM, CARR or the vehicle and expected to be compensated. The contact stated her understanding was that the GM re
There’s a recall for this exact issue, but my vin doesn’t fall under it. But the issue is the brakes suddenly felt different while they maneuvering into a parking spot or slowing for a pedestrian. Happens a lot at very low speeds.
My taheo keeps giving a warning of Trailer Break System. That started going off out of no where the first time it start I was almost to where I was going so just turned vehicle off. It stated beeping and giving me the same warning have had my breaks changed thought it would fix the problem. It continues to beep every couple seconds and continues to say Trailer Break System. Then read the reason this continues to happen is Wire Harness is defective. It is a safety risk because it is very distracting with the alert chime for the driver
Vacuum pump related to the braking system is failing. This has been a repaired recall. The Vac umm pump is failing again. It is my understanding this is a common issue with Chevrolet and GMC and is causing accidents.
I’m pretty sure it’s the vacuum for the breaks because when I park if I put my foot on the brake multiple times it gets stiff solid. But once I put the rpm’s up the brakes get better. I almost hit a parked car because of this because I couldn’t stop

"Service Trailer Brake System" warning illuminates on dash repeatedly while truck is running. This warning is extremely distracting to the driver, as it does not cease. It indicates an issue with the trailer brake system, which makes it unsafe to tow anything.
Keep getting a message saying TRAILER SYSTEM ISSUE.Has occurred over the past few years but recently has shown up more than once about every day.I don’t have a picture at this time but please help with resolving this issue it is very annoying
My truck is getting "Service Trailer Brake System". The warning continues to pop up causing a safety hazard.
When the vehicle idles for long periods of time in Park or Drive (standing traffic or sub-5mph traffic) the brakes provide no stopping power. Upong shifting into N, and speeding up idle over 2000 rpm for at least 20 seconds, the "braking/stopping power" goes back to normal. Not being a mechanic, but car familiar, it's as if the solenoid at long idles does not provide adequate assist power to effectively stop the vehicle. This has caused problems in long traffic lines on 95 south of DC heading to Richmond when traffic begins moving and suddenly slows there is no braking power unless shifting into idle and rev. It also commonly occurs in snowy traffic when things are moving slow. It also occurs in summer idle situations in parking lots if the car is left running and then attempting to pull away there is no braking power. Frontal collisions are a risk, and generally low speed runs ins. Ive had this checked by Chevy dealer/service shops twice and they claim it is not reproducable. There are no warning lights and all recalls have been serviced. This issue occurs at numerous times since owning the vehicle.
Brake Petal is hard and you have to punch very hard to stop at slow speed as in a parking lot or traffic. It will scare you because the vehicle doesn’t want to stop when moving at slow speed. Unsure if it does it in reverse or not.
I purchased this 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe in 2017. It was a certified pre owned vehicle from a dealership. The vehicle continues to have the warning message of “service trailer brake system”
Power steering assist, ABS and skid control failed all at once during travel. Also emergency brake light lit up along with these other warnings. Hard to steer. The vehicle has not yet been inspected. Scheduling that now. All dash warning lights lit up along with warning messages just as the failures occurred. Upon restarting the vehicle the failures reset to normal operation. NOTE: The vehicle had been running and idling in very hot temps ~101
While driving down the road at random occasions the “service trailer brake system” warning will alert us by dinging multiple time. This continues to happen more and more frequently. It will ding and alert us over and over again. The longest it has occurred was for about an hour straight. I took a couple videos/videos of this happening. After doing some research online every article I found stated that it is a wiring harness issue. It was recommended that we report this to NHTSA. I should add that we are not and have not every pulled a trailer.
The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated while attempting to park the vehicle, the brake pedal was difficult to depress and failed to respond. To avoid crashing into the vehicle parked in front of her she crashed into the curb. There were no injuries. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and diagnosed that the vacuum pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 7,770.

Trailer brake system chime goes off constantly. Chevy refuses to fix the defective wire harness. It is distracting and I have no idea if my trailer brakes would properly function if i were to tow. We ranch, but have avoided using my vehicle for this reason. This has happened continuously since 2019.
Brake pedal becomes very difficult to press and has nearly caused an accident on numerous occasions. Recall has been issued for other year models of Tahoes as well, but not 2015 yet.
I'm having problems with my brake system. When I'm backing up it will slide like it don't want to stop fully. If I'm at a light and press the brakes frequently it don't want to stop and feels like it slides before coming to a complete stop. On hills it feels like it's harder to keep the SUV stopped without rolling.
“Trailer Break System” warning keeps popping and makes it very difficult to drive safely!
I have had my vehicle repaired and reprogrammed in May 2020 for the recall of increased brake effort and then in august of 2021 the brake booster repaired. It is Jan 2022 and I’m still having difficulty with my brakes almost rear ending or backing into vehicles when parking. This is unsafe. This is a known issue and needs to be resolved. It has been taking me so much effort to stop or it feels as the brakes are slipping not catching.
The trailer brake system alert is going off twice in a row every 45 seconds to one minute. The chiming is highly distracting while driving and seems to be a wiring issue.
After a 7 hour road trip and returning to local stop and go travel in our hometown, the brakes started vibrating and the brake pedal then went hard. It took a severe downward foot thrust to get the vehicle to stop and even then still continued to roll forward a few feet. The brakes remained hard thereafter and not safe to drive- unable to brake at that point. Luckily we were not in traffic at that time or still on our road trip otherwise I am sure there would have been a serious wreck or fatality. Dealership supposedly took care of the recall repair for the vacuum pump previously but apparently their action was not sufficient. What am I supposed to do about it now? Thank you.
Brake assist problems. When stopping/slow braking while being in heavy traffic, or drive thru, the brakes will vibrate and will not come to a complete stop without it rolling, almost into another vehicle. The brake petal will be stiff and the vehicle will continue to roll. This happens a lot, but seems to only happen during stop/start, bumper to bumper situations.
I bought the tahoe from a buy here pay here Its a salvage car from the action The guy who sold it to me said he would fix and never did I took it in to a shop because i almost recked and the transmission i think messed up because of the brakes and steering There is also another car he sold that my friend bought for me to fix because the guy sold it with out airbags
While pulling forward in a drive thru, slowing to stop, the brake pedal started vibrating and became very hard to press. Came within inches of hitting the vehicle in front of me. I drove to an empty parking area afterwards and was able to reproduce the problem several times. This only seems to happen at low speeds. The brake assist warning light comes on each time this occurs. The vehicle has not yet been inspected by manufacturer or mechanic. I'm filing this complaint because this is a major safety issue. This is not an isolated problem to my vehicle as I have seen that many others have filed the same complaint with the 2015 Tahoe.
At low speeds, mainly backing up, the brake pedal goes soft and the vehicle will not stop. As you push harder, the pedal becomes stiff and you feel the ABS activate. I have read online that this is a common problem with the 2015-2016 GM models. Apparently the vacuum pump is the root cause however many have stated if oil is found, the Vacuum Line between the booster and the pump 3. Brake Booster 4. Master Cylinder 5. Vacuum Pump Belt should be changed as well.
I purchased a certified pre- owned 2015 Chevy Tahoe LTZ on November 2, 2021, after one day of driving the Trailer brake system chime came on without any towing. the trailer brakes stopped functioning. the warning message would not stop chiming this was distracting me from driving. this is potential danger situation to me and to other drivers on the road.
Truck doesn't want to brake have to put both feet on pedal. Almost hit a car in the drop off line this morning at school. When braking it skips a beat and I have to press hard to try to stop it. It scared me because there's no warning lights, it just happened out of nowhere and was afraid to have an accident home very scary. No it has not been inspected by anyone yet. Yes its available for inspection anytime as I wont be driving till I figure out the problem to avoid a serious accident.
While in reverse, at a slow speed, my vehicle still rolls while pressing the brake. I almost hit my daughter’s dance studio. It’s happened many times now and after checking, there is a recall on the software but not the part to fix this. Apparently the software doesn’t fix it because my vehicle software has been updated. I can’t help but think I could’ve backed into a child at her dance studio. Very dangerous for my family and others. Also it’s frustrating to not feel safe driving.
On 10-9-2021 was driving slowly 5-10 MPH in a parking lot and pressed brake and the brake pedal was very hard to press down. Had to really press it hard to stop the 2015 Tahoe LTZ. Had the Tahoe towed to Firestone and they said it was the vacuum pump. Wanted to make sure there was not a recall on the vacuum pump.
The battery power saver light came on then as backing out of driveway I lost power and steering control Service brake assist light flashed as well as service stabilitrack and steering assist Returned home bc I had five kids in vehicle and couldn’t risk it. Consumer thought vehicle was repaired but occurred again.

AT LOW SPEEDS (LESS THAN 10 MPH) BRAKES (ABS AND POWER ASSIST) HAVE FAILED WHEN IN REVERSE ON SLIGHT INCLINE. MOST RECENTLY (4/20/2021) THE SAME ISSUE OCCURED WHEN MOVING FORWARD, AT APPROXIMATELY 5-7 MPH, WHILE ON APPROX 8% DOWNHIL GRADE. THE ROAD SURFACE WAS NON-PAVED, MIXED DIRT/GRAVEL. THIS ISSUE OCCURED MULTIPLE TIMES, HOWEVER, DURING 2 OF THE OCCURANCES THE VEHICLES WOULD NOT COME TO A COMPLETE STOP AND WAS THOUGHT TO HAVE CONTINUED OVER THE EDGE OF ROAD INTO CANYO IF NOT FOR AN EXTREME CHOICE FORWARD PATH TO NAVIGATE THURN. THIS "ROAD" WAS THE WHITE RIM ROAD IN CANYON LANDS NATIONAL PARK, UTAH.

YESTERDAY WHILE DRIVING AT A LOW SPEED, SLOWING TO A STOP, THE BRAKES FELT VERY HARD AND DIFFICULT TO PRESS TO STOP. I CONTINUED TO DRIVE FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE DAY AND IT SEEMED TO STOP FINE AT HIGHER SPEEDS BUT SLOWING OUT OF DRIVEWAY OR INTO PARKING LOTS IT WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO STOP. EVEN AT STOP SIGNS, I HAD TO START HITTING THE BREAKS WELL AHEAD OF THE SIGN IN HOPES THAT IT ACTUALLY STOPPED BY THE TIME I GOT TO SIGN. IT SEEMED TO GET WORSE. CALLED DEALER AND LEFT MESSAGE. WHEN TRYING TO BRAKE AT LOW SPEEDS THE BRAKES LOCK UP AND FEEL LIKE YOU OR PUSHING THROUGH CONCRETE. IT IS TERRIFYING WHEN YOU ARE COMING DOWN A HILL, PULLING A TRAILER, WITH YOUR KIDS IN THE CAR. THIS HAPPENS FREQUENTLY! I HAVE HAD THE BRAKES PADS AND ROTORS REPLACED WITH NO CHANGES. PRETTY FRUSTRATING WHEN YOU SPEND $50,000 ON A VEHICLE AND NO ONE CAN TELL YOU WHAT THE PROBLEM IS.

I PULLED INTO MY DRIVEWAY... THE ENGINE SPEED STARTED INCREASING AND SIMULTANEOUSLY THE BRAKE PEDAL SUNK INTO THE FLOOR AND BRAKING ABILITYWAS LOST. THIS HAPPENED ABOUT 4 FEET FROM MY GARAGE DOOR AND THIS CAUSED MY TRUCK INTO THE GARAGE DOOR. I HAVE A DRIVEWAY VIDEO OF ME ON THE PHONE AND THEN THE CAR BEING ACCELERATED THROUGH THE GARAGE DOOR.

WHEN DRIVING AT SLOW SPEEDS (RESTAURANT DRIVE-THRU, STOP AND GO TRAFFIC) I OFTEN FIND MYSELF HAVING DIFFICULTY PUSHING THE BRAKE PEDAL, AS IT IS EXTREMELY HARD TO PUSH DOWN THE PEDAL AND THE CAR WILL NOT COME TO A STOP FOR 2-3 FEET. I FEEL A STRONG VIBRATION DURING THIS AND A LOW PITCHED CRUNCHING SOUND, AND CANNOT PUSH THE BRAKE DOWN. I AM AFRAID I WILL HAVE A COLLISION. I DID THE 2019 RECALL IN WHICH THE DEALER RECALIBRATED SOMETHING WITH THE BRAKES. BUT IT I CONTINUING TO HAVE PROBLEMS, I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP TO TEST THE VACUUM PUMP, BUT THEY SAID THE "TESTING WAS NORMAL" AND THEY WERE NOT WILLING TO DRIVE IT LONG ENOUGH TO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM I WAS HAVING, SAYING THAT IT WAS WORN ROTORS AND BRAKE PADS THAT WERE CAUSING THE ISSUE. I KNOW WHAT THE CAR FEELS LIKE WHEN THE ROTORS/PADS NEED CHANGING, AND I DO HAVE SLIGHT VIBRATION WHEN BRAKING AT HIGH SPEEDS, BUT NEVER WHERE I HAVE INCREASED BRAKE EFFORT. ONLY AT SLOW SPEEDS AND IF I AM PRESSING THE BRAKE MULTIPLE TIMES.

TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP AND THEY DID A RECALL ON THE BRAKES. I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND LOST ALL BREAKS ALMOST CAUSING A MAJOR ACCIDENT. BREAK LIGHT CAME ON. I DECIDED TO TAKE A DAY TRIP UP TO LAKE TAHOE- FROM FOLSOM CALIFORNIA. IT'S ABOUT 88 MILES AWAY. WE MADE IT TO THE TOP OF THE SUMMIT AND ON THE WAY DOWN MY BRAKES STOPPED WORKING. IT WAS AS HARD AS ROCK. I COULDN'T PUSH DOWN ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AT ALL!! IT WAS SO SCARY. AS THE PEOPLE IN FRONT OF ME WOULD BRAKE I HAD TO USE MY PARKING BRAKE TO SLOW IS DOWN. MY ONLY OPTION WAS TO CRASH INTO THE PERSON IN FRONT OF ME TO STOP US OR USE THE GUARD RAIL AND POSSIBLY GO OVER THE SIDE OF A CLIFF!! MY CAR WAS LOADED WITH 5 CHILDREN AND 2 ADULTS. WE WERE ALL TERRIFIED. I HAD NO INDICATION AS THE DRIVER THAT ANYTHING WAS WRONG WITH MY BRAKES UNTIL THAT MOMENT. THERE WEREN'T ANY LIGHTS OR WARNINGS THAT SOMETHING WASN'T WORKING PROPERLY. FIFTH TIME THEY REPLACED IN UNDER THE RECALL THAT WAS OUT THEN. NOW, FEB 2020 MY CAR HAS BRAKE ISSUES AGAIN. THIS TIME MY CAR IS SHOWING "STABILITRAK" AND "BRAKE ASSIST". THEY ARE WANTING TO REPAIR A HUB, A MODULE AND STRUTS AND SAYING THAT THIS IS ALSO DUE TO A "SIDE DETECTION SYSTEM". MY STRUTS WERE RELATED LAST YEAR BEFORE THE PREVIOUS BRAKE REPAIR. I HAVE DONE MY RESEARCH ONLINE AND SEEN THAT MANY VEHICLES FROM MANY YEAR MAKES HAVE HAD THESE ISSUES WITH THEIR VEHICLE AND GM IS AVOIDING THE ISSUE. I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND THE SIDE DOOR BLACK FASCIA FLEW OFF, THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED 3 STATING IT WAS STILL UNDER THE 34K WARRANTY. I HAD REQUESTED THEY REPLACE/SECURE THE 4TH AND WAS TOLD IT WAS FINE AND DIDN'T NEED REPLACING. I RETURNED FOR AN OIL CHANGE ABOUT 6 MONTHS LATER AND REPORTED THE ONE THAT WAS NOT REPLACED IS NOW LOOSE AND WAS TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP I WAS OUT OF MY WARRANTY PERIOD AND WOULD BE CHARGED AN HOUR LABOR AS WELL AS PARTS, COSTING ROUGHLY $120.00. I THEN HAD MY AC GO OUT IN SUMMER OF 2019 AND HAD THAT REPLACED SUPPOSEDLY A RECALL. WHEN I TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR AN OIL CHANGE IN FALL 2019 I MENTIONED MY CAR WAS NOT STOPPING PROPERLY WHILE BRAKING AND THEY INFORMED ME THERE WAS A CURRENT RECALL THAT WOULD FIX THE ISSUE AND THAT WAS PERFORMED. I WAS STILL NOTICING THE BRAKING ISSUES. IN NOV.2019 I STARTED TO EXPERIENCE MISFIRING WITH THE TRANSMISSION AND NOT SHIFTING CORRECTLY. I MADE AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE DEALERSHIP AND ON THE WAY TO THE DEALERSHIP IT WORSENED AND I HAD TO GET IT TOWED. I WAS INFORMED I WOULD NOT GET A LOANER CAR AS ALL OF THEIRS WERE OUT TO PEOPLE WITH PARTS REQUIRED WITHOUT AN ETA FROM GM. I WAS CALLED 4 DAYS LATER AS I HAD NOT HEARD BACK AND WAS TOLD MY CAR NEEDED A REPLACEMENT TRANSMISSION AS WELL AS A NEW VACUUM PUMP AS THIS HAD FAILED AND IS THE REASON FOR THE HARD BRAKING. THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED AND I WAS TOLD TO PICK UP MY VEHICLE BECAUSE THE VACUUM PUMP IS ON BACK-ORDER WITHOUT AN ETA AND "I STILL HAVE MY ABS THAT WILL ASSIST WITH STOPPING".
OCTOBER 8, 2019 WAS TAKING OFF IN TRAFFIC AFTER STOPPING AT A RED LIGHT, APPROXIMATELY 5-10 MPH. THE TRAFFIC STOPPED, ATTEMPTED TO APPLY THE BRAKES AND PEDAL FELT HARD. REAR END COLLISION OCCURRED WITH THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME CAUSING REAR DAMAGE TO THAT VEHICLE AND FRONT DAMAGE TO MY VEHICLE. APPROXIMATELY 2 MONTHS LATER WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING SPOT AT A LOW SPEED AND COULD NOT STOP THE VEHICLE, FELT LIKE THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS STUCK TO THE FLOOR. PULLED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND WAS ABLE TO GET STOPPED WITHOUT A COLLISION. TOOK VEHICLE INTO DEALER ON JANUARY 10TH. THEY REPROGRAMMED THE HYDRAULIC BRAKE BOOST BUT SAID THE PEDAL WAS STILL HARD AND THEY WOULD NEED TO REPLACE THE MECHANICAL VACUUM OUTPUT. THE PART IS ON BACKORDER BUT THEY WOULD NOT RELEASE THE VEHICLE BACK TO ME BECAUSE OF SAFETY RISKS YET I'VE BEEN DRIVING AROUND FOR MONTHS WITH SAME PROBLEM. ALL RECALLS REVIEWED ARE SUGGESTIVE IF YOU EXPERIENCE THIS PROBLEM NOT A MANDATORY REPAIR. WHY WAIT UNTIL SOMEONE HAS A CRASH LIKE I DID?? ONCE RESEARCHED THIS HAS BEEN A KNOWN ISSUE FOR MONTHS WITH 3 ASSOCIATED RECALLS. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE, NEEDS TO BE MANDATORY REMEDIED. I INITIALLY NOTICED DIFFICULTY WITH BRAKING WHILE BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE AT A VERY LOW RATE OF SPEED. THE BRAKE PEDAL BECAME HARD AND THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ROLL BACKWARD, WITH FULL WEIGHT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. APPROXIMATELY ONE MONTH LATER I WAS IN BUMPER-TO-BUMPER, STOP-AND-GO TRAFFIC AND THE BRAKE PEDAL AGAIN HARD AND THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ROLL FORWARD. THIS ISSUE DID NOT OCCUR DURING NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS, ONLY AT LOW RATES OF SPEED AND WITH FREQUENT, REPETIVE STOPPING. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL CHEVROLET SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO REPLICATE THE ISSUE OR IDENTIFY THE PROBLEM WITH DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENT. I WAS TOLD BY THE SERVICE MANAGER THE PROBLEM WAS LIKELY DUE TO 'OVER USE' OF THE BRAKES AND THE BRAKE IS DESIGNED TO BE 'PUMPED' RATHER THAN COMPRESSED FOR MORE THAN A FEW SECONDS. I TOOK THE VEHEHICLE TO A SECOND CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT REPLACED THE BRAKE BOOSTER VACUUM PUMP AND THIS SEEMS HAVE RESOLVED THE ISSUE. I WAS UNABLE TO DRIVE MY VEHICLE FOR APPROXIMATELY 2 MONTHS DUE TO FEAR THE BRAKES WOULD FAIL. THE VEHICLE HAS 54,000 MILES AND WAS PURCHASED NEW FROM A DEALERSHIP.

WE BOUGHT THIS TAHOE IN FALL OF 2017, AND FEBRUARY 2017, TOOK INTO THE DEALERSHIP DUE TO THE BRAKING ISSUES, NOTHING WAS FOUND OR DONE TO THE BRAKE SYSTEM. ACCORDING TO THE SERVICE BULLETINS, FLUID MAY BE FOUND IN THE BRAKE BOOSTER AND/OR THE BOOSTER VACUUM LINE DURING A NORMAL DIAGNOSTIC.

I ULTIMATELY DECIDED TO BRING MY TAHOE IN FOR FURTHER DIAGNOSIS AFTER IT HAPPENED AGAIN AND BEGAN HAPPENING MORE FREQUENTLY. I EXPERIENCED THE SAME STIFF BRAKE ISSUE AT THE CAR WASH RECENTLY ON 02/16/19 AND WHEN PARALLEL PARKING A COUPLE MONTHS AGO, ALMOST RESULTING IN ACCIDENTS IN BOTH CASES. I TOOK IT TO THE LOCAL GM DEALERSHIP ON 02/18/19 FOR AN ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING RECALL (UNREALTED TO THIS ISSUE) AND THEY KNEW EXACTLY WHAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT WHEN I MENTIONED IT TO THEM. AFTER THE DIAGNOSIS IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE VACUUM PUMP WAS FAULTY AND IT WAS REPLACED.

IT COST NEARLY $700 TO REPLACE AND IN MY OPINION SHOULD BE PUT ON RECALL AS IT IS VERY DANGEROUS TO HAVE THE BRAKES FAIL INTERMITTENTLY. I ALMOST HAD A NUMBER OF ACCIDENTS DUE TO THIS ISSUE AND HAD TO HAVE MY VEHICLE PULLED FROM THE WATER WHEN LAUNCHING MY BOAT.

I TURNED OF THE CAR AND RESTARTED IT AND THE BRAKES DID NOT ENGAGE AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS STIFF. I DID NOT DRIVE IT AGAIN. BEFORE LOOKING AT MY VEHICLE THE TECHNICIAN TOLD ME IT WAS THE VACUME PUMP BUT HE WOULD CALL ME BACK TO LET ME KNOW FOR CERTAIN. ONCE THEY LOOKED AT MY TRUCK HE SAID IT WAS THE VACUUM PUMP THAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND IT WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY. I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW GM KNOWS ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND STILL DOES NOT RECALL IT, THIS CAN CAUSE MAJOR ACCIDENTS AND POTENTIALLY CAUSE A LIFE. IT'S OBVIOUS THERE IS A ISSUE WITH TJE VACUUME PUMPS IN TJE 2015 TAHOE'S AND GM NEEDS TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY AND DO A RECALL BEFORE SOMEONE DIES BECAUSE THEIR BRAKES FAIL DUE TO A VACUUM PUMP NOT WORKING.

UPON DRIVING IN LOW SPEED, DRY CONDITIONS, BUMPER TO BUMPER TRAFFIC (LESS THAN 10MPH), MY 2015 CHEVROLET TAHOE LTZ'S BRAKES BECAME UNRESPONSIVE. AT THAT POINT, I PUT ALL MY WEIGHT ON THE BRAKES AND THE CAR CAME TO AN UNCALCULATED STOP. THIS PROBLEM PERSISTED AND DID NOT REMEDY ITSELF. THE DEALERSHIP NOTIFIED ME THAT THERE WAS A FAULTY BRAKE VACUUM PUMP, AND BRAKE BOOSTER, AND THAT IT FAILED BECAUSE OF MOISTURE PENETRATION. FURTHER, GENERAL MOTORS HAS ISSUED TECHNICAL BULLETIN PIT 5361A/B/C TO ADDRESS THIS KNOWN ISSUE. MY TAHOE HAS 59,000 MILES ON IT. AFTER FURTHER RESEARCH, THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE BY GM AT THE TIME OF MY VEHICLE PURCHASE IN DECEMBER 2014 AND FURTHER, HAS BEEN ACKNOWLEDGED THROUGH TECHNICAL BULLETINS TO THE GM DEALERS. FURTHER, THERE ARE DOCUMENTED CASES WHERE INJURIES/WRECKS HAVE OCCURRED DUE TO THIS SPECIFIC ISSUE. THE GENERAL MOTORS COMPANY HAS BEEN NEGLIGENT IN ITS HANDLING OF THIS IMPORTANT SAFETY (NOT COSMETIC) ISSUE.

AS I WAS SITTING IN THE VEHICLE IN PARK, I PLACED MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND NOTICED THAT THE BRAKE ASSIST HAD ACTIVATED WHILE IN PARK. I WAS UNABLE TO PUSH THE PETAL DOWN. I WAS ABLE TO MOVE THE SHIFTER INTO DRIVE WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE, BUT THE VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY PLUNGED FORWARD. AS I CONTINUED TO TRY AND DEPRESS THE BRAKE PETAL, THE VEHICLE FINALLY SLOWED TO A STOP. BEFORE I COULD GET OFF THE ROAD AND OUT OF TRAFFIC, THE BRAKE ASSIST CONTINUED TO BE LOCKED UP AND THERE WAS NO BRAKES IF I SHIFTED INTO REVERSE. I WAS EXTREMELY CONCERNED FOR MINE AND MY CHILDREN'S SAFETY AS THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED A VERY SERIOUS ACCIDENT. THE BRAKES DID NOT STOP THE VEHICLE AND WERE DEFECTIVE DUE TO THE VACUUM PUMP "GOING OUT". THE VEHICLE IS ONLY 2 YEARS OLD AND HAS 49K MILES.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE ROAD IN TRAFFIC I WENT TO PRESS ON THE BRAKES AND NOTICED THEY HAD BECOME STIFF AND HAD TO PRESS THEM AS HARD AS POSSIBLE TO SLOWLY STOP WHILE TRYING TO AVOID HITTING ANOTHER VEHICLE IN TRAFFIC. NO WARNING LIGHTS WERE ON IN THE DASH UNTIL I PULLED OVER AND RESTARTED VEHICLE A COUPLE OF TIMES. THEN I GOT THE ACTIVE BRAKE ASSIST SERVICE LIGHT ON. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE NEAREST CHEVROLET SERVICE CENTER DUE TO THE VEHICLE NOT SAFE TO DRIVE.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND OPENED CASE # 8-31775454 BUT DID NOT OFFER ANY FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 31,000.

IN EACH INSTANCE I AM MOVING AT A VERY SLOW SPEED. I CONTACTED DEALERSHIP, THEY TOLD ME I WASN'T THE ONLY ONE CALLING ABOUT THIS HAPPENING BUT SINCE I'M OVER 36,000 WARRANTY THEY WILL CHARGE ME TO CK IT OUT, PROBABLY CAN'T RECREATE THE PROBLEM, SAID IT WAS PROBABLY ABS BUT NOTHING THEY CAN DO ABOUT THAT, SUGGESTED I FIND A DEALERSHIP CLOSE TO ME WHENEVER IT HAPPENS AGAIN!

THE CONTACT WAS TREATED FOR UNKNOWN INJURIES THAT REQUIRED IMMEDIATE MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED.
