There are times that the brake assist will stop working. The bake assist light has started coming on once in a while. I looked up the vin and it said all recalls were repaired. I have a concern that the vaccume brake issue was not properly taken care of at whatever dealership that claimed to fix the issue.

VEHICLE IS AVAILABE UPON REQUEST. -SAFETY RISK--- BECAUSE THE BRAKE RELEASES AND/OR EVENTUALLY NOT CATCH AT ALL, THIS IS UNSAFE BECAUSE I CAN ROLL INTO TRAFFIC -REPRODUCED AND/OR CONFIRMED--- I HAVE BROUGHT MY VEHICLE TO A SERVICE CENTER TO REPAIR A RECALL AND WAS TOLD TO THAT THE ISSUE SHOULD BE RESOLVED ONCE THE RECALL WAS COMPLETE. THE ISSUE WAS TEMPORARILY RESOLVED FOR APPROXIMATELY ONE MONTH OR SO, AND NOW IT IS BACK TO BREAKING AND RELEASING. -ONE CAN ONLY ASSUME THAT THE VEHICLE AND/OR ITS COMPONENTS HAVE BEEN INSPECTED GIVEN THAT I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO THE SERVICE CENTER, STATED THE ISSUE, AND WAS TOLD THAT THE ISSUE SHOULD BE RESOLVED AFTER IT HAS BEEN SERVICED.  -THERE WERE NO WARNING LAMPS, MESSAGES, OR OTHER SYMPTOMS OF THE PROBLEM PRIOR TO THIS ISSUE.

I bought my Tahoe from Dan Vaden Chevrolet in Savannah, GA with approx 58k miles. At around 88k miles I noticed the transmission hesitated when putting into reverse or drive from the park position. I had my transmission fluid changed at 70k and 100k miles. Now, at 112k miles, it has significantly gotten worse with shuddering between gears 1-3 and jerking when in reverse. Major hesitation when accelerating at any speed and high pitched whining noises that randomly happen, even after putting it in park and turning it off. Also, my ABS and Stabilitrak lights will illuminate and then go off every few days. As well as another random icon that randomly comes and goes. This Tahoe is now unsafe to drive but it’s the only transportation I have. I already missed a radiator replacement recall by 1,500 miles and had to pay for that out of pocket. Now Chevrolet isn’t recalling this transmission when it has over 190 complaints on this website alone, and thousands of others on other online forums. What will it take for the manufacturer to do the right thing? Will someone have to die in order for this to become an issue they stop ignoring? We have all spent money we worked hard to earn and deserve a vehicle that’s safe for our families.

Driving down the freeway at 75 mph and the headlight started flickering any time I would use my blinker. 5 minutes later the car automatically breaks hard all by itself along with the dash lights going off and the doors locking and unlocking. 3 days later driving in town taking a hard left suddenly I get alerts on the dashboard saying, "parking assist off" and "stabilitrak" then suddenly my steering wheel JERKS VIOLENTLY all the way to the right. This happened 2x when I am driving!!! It is available for inspection upon request. If this steering wheel malfunction happens to someone driving down an interstate someone could die. It just happened yesterday so I have not gotten it in to be looked at yet. There was zero warning it all happens suddenly and out of nowhere.

The brake vacuum pump is bad. It was hooked up to solious and that's the codes it's throwing. Out of no where while driving on the highway my brake pedal became very stiff and difficult to push down. I could barely stop in time off the exit. Now when the truck is in Drive it doesn't even move. When you do go u have to put all your might into pressing the brake down to stop. Even then the pedal won't go down. Very dangerous especially since I had my [XXX] daughter with me. Very scary situation. I looked up recall for VIN but I have 0. Which is weird because there's a recall on 2016 chevy tahoes for this exact symptoms and part. Now I did go to [XXX] and found a recall under my Vin and also a warranty for this part under my Vin. I called my local Chevrolet dealership to get the recalled on my Tahoe fixed and they can’t fix the recall for a full month. I’m very concerned because it’s a recall on the vacuum pump so it affects my brakes. My truck is a daily driver so I will have to gamble for a month on the streets and pray the brakes don’t get any worse.

While pulling up to the drive thru window to pick up our food, at very low speed, vehicle would not stop had put all of my body weight on brake pedal to get it to stop and avoid hitting car in front of us.

Brake Assist failure at low speed making vehicle extremely hard to stop. GM recall N182202780 does not cover all VIN numbers of the model years affected. GM states this VIN number is not covered yet the vehicle has the exact failure outlined in this recall.

While driving at low speeds, the brake pedal became very difficult to engage and the car did not stop as intended. This affects the ability of the vehicle to stop in areas with frequent pedestrian traffic such as driveways and parking lots creating a substantial safety risk. The vehicle has not been to a repair shop or dealership to investigate further at this time. There are no warning lights or messages from the vehicle computer system. This issue sounds like an issue researched on the internet for Chevy vehicles, but this VIN is not covered by a prior recall. The symptoms seem to be the same as described in NHTSA Campaign Number 19V645000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic).

While driving in atleast in awd and I think it happened in 2wd. My abs light comes on with stabilitrack and trailer break. Once that happens driving feels weird like breaks are closing in. Turning is extremely difficult cause it feels like all this are breaking. Then once I stop the car it kicks forward after the car is off

I have a 2016 Chevy Tahoe LTZ. It has the air ride suspension. I need all new shocks and struts and a new air ride air suspension pump. Reported this issue when the vehicle had 60-66k miles on it. I was never told what was wrong until about 2 weeks ago. The grand total of replacing these issues is over 6k. I called Chevy/GMC theres nothing they will do as it’s out of any warranty even though the problem has been reported/documented way before it hit 84k. Jim Shorkey Chevy is a joke and Boby Rahal has no clue what warranty they’re selling people. This makes for a very loud, very rough ride that’s hard to control going any speed. There was also a valve that would squeak when it went from the V4 to the V8. In order to fix that i needed a whole new exhaust and muffler. Chevy would not cover any of this even though there is warranty for emissions through Chevy I can’t remember the year but i know the miles were 90k. I don’t have that on the car and for whatever reason an exhaust and muffler are not considered emissions even though if there was a hole or malfunction with them I wouldn’t pass the emissions here in PA. Make that make sense. All of these problem were reported within the year of buying this car back in 2020. I didn’t get a diagnosis for these problems until 2023 and 30k miles later. I did and still do have issues with the brake even though the vacuum pump was replaced back when I bought it. My antenna also leaked and I had to pay for that out of pocket. I’d love to stay with a gmc/Chevy but if I’m going to constantly have to pour money into it I’ll never go back.

The "Service Brake Assist" message also appeared after this incident. I contacted my Chevrolet dealer who cannot schedule an appointment for at least 15 days. The car is currently at an independent mechanic who advised that this sounds like a familiar issue for Chevy vehicles, but this VIN is not covered by a prior recall. The issue seems to be the same as described in NHTSA Campaign Number 19V645000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic).

I was driving down highway and saw a wall of cars and brake lights in the distance, so naturally my foot tried to push the brakes. The pedal was hard, and I panicked because my tahoe was not stopping at all! I continued to stomp on brake pedal all the way until my car actually hit 3 vehicles and then the guardrail! My brakes did not work , because if they did then I would have easily prevented this accident!!

Purchased the car new for a local dealer in Surprise, Arizona. Over time the brake pedal has become spongy, soft and pulsating. This happens mostly at slow speeds like backing out of the driveway or garage. Did a search of the NHTSA web site and see that there was a recall on my model year vehicle to replace or reprogram the vacuum pump. However I never received a recall notice. I am now afraid to drive the car because I am concerned over a complete brake failure. I do know that during one of my normal service maintenance appointments I was approached by the service advisor about his concern over a suspected brake issue. He wanted to replace my entire brake system, master cylinder, vacuum pump, etc for a cost of about $1,500 as I recall. I declined the repair as I was not aware of that the problem I was experiencing was including in the recall. Again I never received any notice of a recall of the vacuum pump for the brakes but clearly I am experiencing the symptoms as was described in the recall notice on your website.

I bought this 2016 Tahoe in January of 2023. I was very excited to purchase my first Tahoe and sunk my savings into paying for it. A couple weeks after I purchased it, I got a service trailer break message that came up on my screen. I have had several different mechanics look at it, but still, it hasn't been fixed. This message pops up probably 60 times while I am driving, and continuously. It flashes across my screen, and when I dismiss it, it will go away for a second and then pop up again. This dinging message continues while I'm driving it. I feel that it is a safety hazard as I am very distracted by it when I am driving the car. I don't have any other choice, as I spent all my money I had for a car on purchasing this car, and don't have another car to drive, so I have to drive this one. I would really like for GM to issue a recall for this, and tell technicians how to fix this. The technicians I have seen tried replacing the battery and a corroded wire. We've replaced the switch, but still this message returns. I am very frustrated by this, as I traded my old car in for this one, because I was having car trouble. I wanted to trade to avoid car problems, but just got a car with more problems. I am going insane with this message and not having a fix for it.

Hello to whom it may concern, I purchased a certified pre-owned 2016 Chevy Tahoe in November of 2019 from a Woodland Ca dealership. Over the last six years, I have put only 31k miles on the truck. In 2022 I have put in a new transmission at 120K and now not even a year later I’m getting a warning message popping up on the dashboard service Trailer brake system. I have NOT towed anything in the last two years since my move. However, on January 4th of this year 2023 when the warning started, I thought it was just that I accidentally hit the trailer switch. I hit the switch again and the warning went away. However, the warning is increasing in the number of times it’s coming on. I took it to a mechanic and discovered they said that a wire needed to be replaced. When I went to YouTube, I noticed that there were several videos on the same issue. This unexcitable that a company as big as GMC wouldn’t take care of the part that results in the warning. My vehicle is not safe to drive in that condition. Brakes failed to work at low speed. Traveling in stop and go traffic on I-40 and the brake pedal became hard as a rock and was pulsing. Had to pull over and coast to a stop. Performed a test on the median of the highway and again the brakes failed to work. We were towed to the repair shop. Awaiting the repair diagnosis and cost.

When I apply the brake it goes to the floor, I have to pump my brake pedal. Once the Tahoe slows to a stop it rolls forward as the brake is still engaged and pressed to the floor. When backing up in reverse the brakes grind when using a downhill grade. Lastly the brake assist light has illuminated on the control panel.

Brakes do not work when driving in slow speeds. I could not stop my 2016 Tahoe in a shopping center parking lot. Pedal was stiff and non responsive. I had the same issue parking in my garage. Vehicle did not stop and went into the wall!!

-body- hood paint defect (aluminum oxidation) -brakes- vehicles doesn't stop and brakes get hard to push, and they also feel like they are skipping. -power train- brakes and transmission shifts hard from time to time. -electronics- DVD and rear inverter 110 a/c plug power went out, and cell phone charger doesn't work. -seats- get stuck and won't go up or down at times. Forward and side collision warning - will alert when nothing is there.

First sign of problem was Thursday night, 10/7/2021. When on an incline there is no brake vacuum assist, takes both feet and all the force I can apply to stop vehicle going very slow. On flat surface it feels different than normal, when applying brakes there is a feeling of rough resistance but the brakes do work almost as normal. I see there is a recall for brake assist pump that is fixed by software update. I have only owned this vehicle since July of this year. I have checked the NHTSA data base and it shows no non-repaired recalls. I do not know how to confirm if a recall notice was actually sent out on this vehicle. This is not a random occurrence, it started Thursday and has not stopped. I am afraid to drive this vehicle for fear of dying.

ON JANUARY 29, 2021, MY 2016 TAHOE LT, WITH 69,676 MILES, EXPERIENCED A "BRAKE VACUUM ASSIST PUMP FAILURE". THE VEHICLE WAS ON A FLAT SURFACE (DRIVEWAY), IN REVERSE, MOVING VERY SLOWLY BACKWARD, WHEN I ENGAGED THE FOOT BRAKE PEDAL IT WAS HARD AND WOULD NOT STOP THE VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY, THE VEHICLE EVENTUALLY STOPPED AFTER AN ABNORMAL DISTANCE (WITHOUT WARNING THE BRAKES FAILED TO ENGAGE). ONCE I STOPPED, I TURNED OFF THE IGNITION, WAITED A FEW MINUTES, THEN STARTED THE IGNITION AND NO WARNING SENSORS/ LIGHTS WERE DISPLAYED. I THEN PLACED THE VEHICLE IN DRIVE TO CHECK THE BRAKES. I MOVED FORWARD SLOWLY, WHEN I PUSHED THE FOOT BRAKE PEDAL IT WAS ONCE AGAIN HARD CAUSING ME TO PUMP THE BRAKES WHICH CAUSED THE BRAKE PEDAL TO BECOME FLUTTERING AND THE PEDAL WAS PUSHED TO THE FLOOR, THE VEHICLE EVENTUALLY STOPPED AFTER AN ABNORMAL DISTANCE (WITHOUT WARNING THE BRAKES FAILED TO ENGAGE). BECAUSE OF THE SEVERE SAFETY RISK, I HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO REPLACE THE 'BRAKE VACUUM ASSIST PUMP' ON FEBRUARY 2, 2022, AT MY COST.

VEHICLE EXPERIENCES DELAYED STOPPING AT LOW SPEEDS. THE INITIAL INCIDENT OCCURRED ON 10/16/20 WHILE APPROACHING A 4 WAY STOP--THE VEHICLE ROLLED THRU THE STOP. ON 10/21/20 IT OCCURRED AGAIN WHILE PARKING THE VEHICLE, PULLED UP SLIGHTLY AND STOPPED TO PUT IN REVERSE, BUT THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ROLL. NO ACCIDENTS OCCURRED IN THESE SITUATIONS AS NO OTHER VEHICLES WERE AROUND. OWNER'S HUSBAND INSPECTED BRAKE PADS AND ALL WERE WITHIN SPECIFICATION AND BRAKE FLUID WAS AT APPROPRIATE LEVEL--NOTED THAT WHEN THE BREAK PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED MULTIPLE TIMES THE PRESSURE COULD BE FELT BUILDING AT THE PEDAL BUT VEHICLE WOULD STILL ROLL.

AS I APPROACHED A RED LIGHT THE BRAKE PEDAL DEPRESSED NEARLY TO THE FLOOR AND WITH NO WARNING A POPPING NOISE SOUNDED FROM THE VEHICLE FOLLOWED BY THE BRAKE PEDAL SUDDENLY DEPRESSING COMPLETELY INTO THE FLOOR. I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY PULL THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND GET THE VEHICLE TO A SAFE LOCATION GIVEN THE LACK OF BRAKING ABILITIES. THIS IS A SEVERAL TON VEHICLE AND I EXPECT THE BRAKES TO WORK AT ALL TIMES. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER ONCE BEFORE TO REMEDY THIS RECALL BUT IT WAS CLEARLY NOT FIXED. THE LOSS OF BRAKING ABILITY WAS FOLLOWED BY A MESSAGE ON THE DASH STATING "SERVICE BRAKING SYSTEM IMMEDIATELY", FOLLOWED BY "SERVICE BRAKE ASSIST". A LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE DASH AS WELL AND I AM UNSURE OF THE SPECIFIC MEANING OF THIS LIGHT. A SECOND LIGHT SHOWING "ABS" WAS FLASHING TO ALSO CATCH MY ATTENTION TO THE CURRENT ISSUE AT HAND.

ANAOW AT LATEST CHECK , METAL TO METAL, WAS INFORMED OF THE BULLEIN FROM A BRAKE PLACE. DEALERSHIP WAS WELL AWARE OF VEHICLE HAVING DEFECTIVE PADS AND ROTORS, YET DIDNOT INFORM CUSTOMER!

I BEEN SEEING SERVICE BRAKE ASSIST ON MY DISPLAY, AND WITH THAT I HAVE PROBLEMS STOPPING MY VEHICLE AT A SLOW SPEED. IT USUALLY HAPPENS WHEN I'M BACKING UP OUT OF MY GARAGE, OR TRYING TO PARK AT A PARKING SPACE. I HAVE TO PRESS DOWN ON THE PEDAL HARD TO STOP, AT ONE TIME I HAD TO PUR IT IN NEUTRAL CAUSE I COULDN'T STOP. I'M AFRAID ONE OF THESE DAYS IT WON'T STOP AND I WILL CAUSE AN ACCIDENT OR DAMAGES CAUSE OF THIS ISSUE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND FILED CLAIM NUMBER: [XXX]. THE PART WAS NOT AVAILABLE FOR THE REPAIR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN. ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS I HAVE LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE FIRST TIME I WAS TURNING AND THOUGHT MAYBE I HIT A SLICK SPOT ON THE ROAD BUT THE SAME THING DID NOT HAPPEN TO OTHER CARS. THE SECOND TIME I WAS DRIVING STRAIGHT ON A SECONDARY ROAD AND OUT OF NOWHERE THE CAR STARTED SLIDING LIKE IT WAS ON ICE BUT THE BRAKES AND STEERING WERE NON FUNCTIONAL. I COULD TURN THE WHEEL AND PRESS THE BRAKES BUT NOTHING HAPPENED. THERE WAS NO INDICATION THAT THERE WERE ANY ISSUES WITH THE CAR, NO ALARMS OR MESSAGES CAME UP BEFORE, DURING, OR AFTER THE INCIDENTS. I WAS VERY LUCKY IN BOTH INSTANCES IN THAT THERE WERE NO ONCOMING CARS. THIS HAS BEEN EXTREMELY TERRIFYING AND I REFUSE TO DRIVE THE CAR ANYMORE. HEAVEN FORBID MY CHILDREN OR ANYONE ELSE HAD BEEN IN THE CAR.

I AM A POLICE FLEET MANAGER THAT HAS AN ALL CHEVY TAHOE FLEET. IN OCTOBER 2019, I RECEIVED NOTIFICATION FOR CHEVY RECALL N192268490 AND EVERY VEHICLE IN THE FLEET WAS TAKEN IN FOR THE RECALL. THE RECALL WAS TO REPROGRAM THE BRAKES, SO BRAKING WOULD STILL BE POSSIBLE EVEN IF THE BRAKE BOOSTER FAILED. HOWEVER, THE RECALL DID NOT ADDRESS THE ROOT OF THE PROBLEM, WHICH IS A FAULTY SECONDARY HYDRAULIC BRAKE ASSIST VACUUM PUMP. I WAS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM BECAUSE I HAD TWO TAHOES ALREADY HAVE A VACUUM BOOSTER FAILURE, WHICH RESULTED IN AN EXTREMELY HARD BRAKE PEDAL WHICH WOULD NOT STOP THE VEHICLE. THE PROBLEM ARISES DURING SLOW SPEED BRAKING, SUCH AS PARKING LOTS OR SLOW SPEED PATROL. LESS THAN A WEEK AFTER TAKING THE VEHICLES TO CHEVY FOR THE RECALL, AN OFFICER WAS MANEUVERING SLOWLY IN A PARKING LOT. THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED AN EXTREMELY HARD BRAKE PEDAL AND THE VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP. THE OFFICER WAS ABLE TO TURN THE VEHICLE, BARELY AVOIDING A COLLISION. OBVIOUSLY, GM'S BAND-AID RECALL DOES NOT FIX OR EVEN OVERRIDE THE PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP, WHERE THE SERVICE PROVIDERS AGREED THE RECALL WAS A PLACEBO AND THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THE VACUUM BOOSTER. AS PER A RECENT LETTER FROM GM, THEY HAVE GIVEN AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THE VACUUM PUMP, FOR FREE REPLACEMENT. SO, OBVIOUSLY THEY KNOW THERE IS A PROBLEM. THE LIABILITY PLACED ON MUNICIPALITIES, WHO HAVE NO OTHER CHOICE BUT TO USE THEIR FLEET VEHICLES WITH KNOWN BRAKING ISSUES, IS AN UNFAIR BURDEN AND RISK. I HAD MY TRUCK PARKED IN A GARAGE SINCE THE DAY WE GOT HOME FROM THE DEALER AND TODAY 11/13/19 WHEN I GET TO TURN IT ON IT JUST WON'T START. WE TOOK IT IN AND THEY INFORMED US THAT THERE WAS A LEAK IN THE BRAKE VACUUM PUMP. MOSTLY LIKELY THIS IS WHY THE ENGINE HAS BEEN MAKING A TICKING SOUND, BECAUSE OF THE LEAK.

MY 2016 CHEVY TAHOE SHOOK SO BAD AT 69-74, MPH MY HUSBAND WAS SCARED TO RIDE WITH ME. TOOK TO DEALER THEY KEPT SUV FOR 4 DAYS AND SAID IT WAS THE TIRES. I PUT NEW TIRES ON BUT IT STILL RIDES ROUGH. NOW I HEAR IT'S BECAUSE I HAVE 22 IN WHEELS THAT MAKES IT RIDE ROUGH. SINCE THE TIRES HAVE BEEN CHANGED ABOUT 2 MONTHS NOW IVE BEEN HAVING SLOW SPEED BRAKE PROBLEMS. I'VE ALMOST HIT SEVERAL CARS IN A PARKING LOT AT DIFFERENT TIMES BECAUSE THE BRAKE WANT STOP. I'VE EVEN ALMOST HIT MY HUSBANDS NEW TRUCK IN OUR DRIVEWAY. TOOK IT TO MECHANIC, PUT ON MACHINE AND NOW SAID IT'S A VAC. PUMP ISSUE. I'VE HAD MANY TAHOE AND THIS ONE IS MAKING ME WANT TO GET AWAY FROM CHEVY.

BRAKES CONSISTENTLY SOFT PRESSURE ESPECIALLY ON DOWNGRADES. CAME CLOSE TO HITTING PARKED CARS AT TRAFFIC LIGHTS. BRAKE WAS PRESSED ALMOST TO THE FLOOR BEFORE IT STOPPED. I HAVE TAKEN IT INTO DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY HAVE CHANGED PADS FIXED ROTORS BUT STILL VERY SOFT MUSHY BRAKES. MANY COMPLAINTS I AM READING ABOUT THIS 2016 TAHOE. WHEN PARKED PRESSING BRAKE 3 TIMES IS WHEN IT FINALLY FEELS LIKE IT IS IN CORRECT POSITION. I OWED 2008 SUBURBAN FOR 10 YEARS AND HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKING SYSTEM.

WHEN DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS, BOTH TURNING AND DRIVING STRAIGHT, THE BRAKE PEDAL BECOMES SO FIRM THAT IT CANNOT BE DEPRESSED. I AM UNABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE WITHOUT PUMPING THE BRAKES. THE DEALERSHIP IS CHARGING $700 TO REPLACE THE VACUUM PUMP AND IS FAMILIAR WITH THE ISSUE.

WAS INVOLVED IN A AUTO ACCIDENT IN SEPT 2017 IN WHICH I REAR ENDED ANOTHER VEHICLE.I WAS TRAVELING SOUTHBOUND ON GREENMOUNT ROAD IN SHILOH IL. COMING TO A STOP AT A STOPLIGHT AT ABOUT 30 MPH, I WAS TRYING TO KILL A SPIDER SO MY EYES WERE OFF THE ROAD BUT WHEN THE COLLISION ALERT ALARM SOUNDED I IMMEDIETLY HIT THE BRAKES WHICH WERE HARD MAKING BRAKING DIFFICULT THERE IS NO WAY AN IMPACT SHOULD HAVE HAPPENDED. WHEN THE COLLISION ALERT ALARM SOUNDS THE BRAKE PEDALS BECAME HARD MAKING THE STOPPING OF THE CHEVY TAHOE IMPOSSIBLE SO I COULD NOT AVOID REAR ENDING OF THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. NOW WHILE DRIVING THE TAHOE WITHOUT THE COLLISION ALERT ACTIVATED THE SUV STOPS LIKE NORMAL, ONLY WHEN THE COLLISION ALERT IS ACTIVATED DOES THE HARD BRAKE PEDALS OCCUR WHICH TO ME IS THE OPPOSITE EFFECT.
