On December 30, 2025, I was driving the Tahoe at a highway speed in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. I experienced two engine shut-offs. I was able to get the Tahoe to the Chevrolet dealer in Midwest City, OK. Advisor Tim took care of the vehicle and said that they "couldn't replicate the problem." He did mention he had to add engine oil because it was a quart low. We noted that we are currently conducting an oil consumption test with a Chevrolet dealer in Elk Grove, Illinois. He said we had a strong case for it, but the Tahoe was safe for traveling back home to Illinois. The following days, the Tahoe performed well without any issues. On January 3, 2026, we left Spencer, OK, and headed back home to Illinois. Without any warning, while driving at highway speed, the engine shut off completely and would not restart. The failure occurred at approximately 9:00 pm on a pitch-black expressway about 40 miles from Rolla, Missouri. I was traveling with my wife and two children. We were stranded on the highway shoulder. A state trooper was dispatched for safety. The Tahoe required a tow over an hour later, and we had to take a Lyft to a hotel. Logistics at that time in that location were complicated. Our family was terrified for our safety. Today is Sunday, and the nearest dealer is closed. We will have it dropped off tomorrow, January 5th, and go from there. We do not know how we are going to get back to Illinois. We have work and my son has school. The vehicle is currently disabled and under manufacturer warranty. This was a serious safety incident involving loss of engine power at high speed.

I asked the dealer for information about the L87 6.2L engine rod bearing failure recall. I was told that they wouldnt perform the work until i recieved a letter from GM. This was when i got my first oil change. Then every oil change after that i asked the same question. At 43401 miles i parked the vehicle and havent driven it since. I am afraid to have something happen to me or my family. I paid $82,000.00 for a vehicle that GM's fix is to add thicker oil. I think that the rods and bearings should at least be visually inspected. The dealers maintenance manager at Kunes Lake Geneva says theyll listen to it with a stethescope. If it sounds ok theyll change the oil. I paid way to much to chance my familys safety on thicker oil. To make the situation better the vehicle blue books for $56,000.00 IT DEPRECIATED $26000.00 IN TWO YEARS. That is unacceptable.

While Driving to my appointments via the freeway, all of a sudden the vehicle slowed down, I noticed most of the warning lights were on including the check engine light that was blinking. I Happened to be near a GMC dealership which previously did repair work on my vehicle and left it with their service center for a diagnostic inspection. A week later my service advisor contacted me with their Vehicle condition report that my vehicle had camshaft and internal engine group issues. He quoted repairs but recommended replacing the engine. Repair or engine replacement $21,296.51. Six months before this issue I had the same issue the warning lights and it resorted in replacing the brake control cylinder. Once repaired no issues/messages or symptoms with my vehicle until this current engine problem/replacement.

I dont believe the correct fix is changing Oil Viscocity

Nov 2, 2025

I bought this 2023 Chevy Tahoe rst brand new from the dealer and about a few months of owning it I noticed that the truck was needing oil before the next oil change. It’s as if it was consuming itself. This continues for month until last week when the truck died on me. I was able to jump start and everything worked fine for a day. The next day things got worse. I was on the highway and truck started shaking and giving off all kinds of codes. I took it to dealer and they said I needed a new battery but that there was also an engine problem. I bought a new battery and none of the messages on dash resolved like I was told. The truck is u drivable motor is knocking and was even making loud popping sounds. Of course my truck just hit 64,000 miles so gm is saying I’m out of warranty. I should not be having these types of issues on an almost brand new truck that I’ve owned 2 years. Engine light is flashing and dealer said this means major issue.

2nd Powertrain failure in 4 months in 2023 Tahoe with 6.2L engine. The first being the Camshaft and lifters failing at highway speeds, which was repaired. The second issue the engine seized while on a tollway going approx 70 MPH with my spouse, children, and family in the vehicle. We were able to coast to the shoulder while waiting on a tow truck. Because of the engine being seized, the Tahoe is waiting on the engine to be replaced. While we wait, we were told they have no loaner vehicles and there are no GM rental vehicles available with who they contract through. Having a 2023 leased vehicle fail twice in 4 months with children in the vehicle is unacceptable and brings to question the safety and reliability of the vehicle moving foreward.

The idler pulley was squealing. Dealership I took it to said this was the 3rd one they've had to replace in the last few days.

Oct 4, 2025

The engine in my vehicle has experiences major failures in valve flap adjusters, multiple valve failures, valve cover issues, and over consumption of oil by over a quarter in a week and a half of average driving. My safety was put at risk because the engine failure resulted in traction control malfunctions while going 70 mph up hill on a major interstate. This led to extreme shaking which did not stop until slowing down to below 15 mph. Luckily I was a mile from an exit and was able to coast off the road quickly; it was decent enough weather, and I was less than 5 miles from my destination so I could creep between 15-30 mph to not exacerbate traction control alarms. That slow mph did back up traffic behind me. As far as I am aware the problem was likely reproduced by the dealership service tech, which led to their recommendation to replace the whole engine. They do not consider it to be covered by any warranty anymore. The engine may be in their possession still, but I am unsure. There were zero warning lights/prompts from the vehicle that anything was going wrong prior to the shaking and loss of traction control at high speed. The dealer service team suggested that my high miles led to the engine failure. I do highway driving with it and have followed all manufacturer recommendations for oil changes, and even more frequent changes with OEM oil since about 80k miles. I do not think this engine should have failed at this amount of mileage. I made note of oil consumption around 95k miles and measured oil loss regularly. It was a little less than a quart every 2K to 3k miles which manufacturer states is within spec so I would top off oil. A year ago it had a TCM wire replaced after burning in half. 3 weeks ago I also had to replace the entire turbo. The wire rendered my car unable to go in gear. The turbo failure put me into limp mode. I think the turbo failure was a sign of a deeper issue that went undiagnosed.

on [XXX] we bought our 2023 Tahoe High Country from Jeff Gordon Cheverolet in Wilmington NC. In April 2025 a recall was announced on our car for engine failure. In June of 2025 we received a letter stating that a fix for the recall was to have an inspection done. If passed, then an oil change and new cap would be done. This was completed. on [XXX], I was on the highway accelerating to get up the speed, when I heard a loud pop noise. Then i heard loud knocking coming from my engine, the check engine light came on with the traction light as well. The car then had sluggish acceleration and would not accelerate but would have high than normal RPMS and rev when trying to accelerate. I knew then that I had engine failure. I was able to get the car to a safe place and called the dealership right away. They got it towed to Marine Chevy since it was closer. The next day they did an inspection on the vehicle and said the camshaft and lifters were broken and had to be replaced. I said I would need a new engine replaced due to the damage and recall. I was told it would not be under recall because it was the top and not bottom. They said the GM refused the new engine but would not tell me if it was the General Manager or General Motors that refused. I called and texted multiple times asking for pictures. They refused to send me any until 9/9 after multiple attempts. They only sent me one of the rods and rocker arms showing a rod bent and stated it was the lifters. still no pictures of the camshaft broke or lifters. These problems already have multiple class action lawsuits out for this particular engine failure. I was told the recall would still be on the engine even after the repair, I can still have engine failure. I refuse to pay the money for this car to continue to be in the shop due to a bad engine that was put in these models. I also have a case open with General Motors for replacing the engine as well and they are refusing to help. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552

When i asked Kunez Lake Geneva, Wi. When the engine recall would be taken care of. I was told that GMC has to order the recall first. Then when asking about the process of inspecting. They informed me they would listen to the motor and decide if it was effected or not. I paid $82k for this vehicle. I find that listening to the motor isnt a thorough way of inspection. After they deem the motor ok. There going to put higher viscosity oil & an oil cap. What if something happens in the future. Is my familys life safety not important? Summary General Motors has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety may exist in certain 2021 – 2024 model year Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Suburban, and Tahoe, and GMC Sierra 1500, Yukon, and Yukon XL vehicles equipped with the 6.2L V8 gas engine (RPO L87). The connecting rod and/or crankshaft engine components in these vehicles may have manufacturing defects that can lead to engine damage and engine failure. Safety Risk If the engine fails during vehicle operation, the vehicle will lose propulsion, increasing the risk of a crash. Remedy Dealers will inspect and, as necessary, replace the engine. Vehicles that pass inspection will be provided a higher viscosity oil, which will also require a new oil fill cap, an oil filter replacement, and an owner’s manual insert.

At a stoplight vehicle wanted to stall out Motor was shaking

Aug 1, 2025

My vehicle’s engine has been recalled since June. The dealer refused to inspect because there is no remedy to replace the engine. I have complained since I purchased the vehicle of noises that I’ve heard. I am hearing more noises, and I am increasingly getting more scared every day to drive my vehicle. I will not put myself nor my family in harms way I can get into an accident. I am afraid to drive the vehicle. I am not taking any chances of hurting anyone else or my family or potentially have a fatal accident. two months of driving around scared I will not drive my truck anymore. I am beyond upset that there is no remedy for this and that it is not taken seriously. Something needs to be done regarding my situation and all others. The vehicle was sold, most likely knowing that this was a problem. GM needs to make good on this problem before people get killed. I would like them to buy back my vehicle, I am sure I qualify for a full re-purchase. I called GM. They will get back to me in five business days. I cannot emphasize how afraid I am to drive my vehicle and I paid $110,000 for this vehicle.

Sudden engine failure while driving at high speeds - was not aware of any recall.

Jul 2, 2025

Need new rotors and breaks purchased this vehicle with this issue and dealership or manufacturer want to fix this serious problem

Jun 27, 2025

Engine connecting rods and crankshaft have manufacture defects that could cause engine failure resulting in a crash. Driving in a large city with an infant and toddler makes the possibility of sudden engine failure extremely dangerous. It puts everyone in the vehicle at risk but especially the children at a huge safety risk. Engine makes odd sound but multiple Chevy dealerships say they won't look at it because they don't have an answer from GM.

Jun 26, 2025

While traveling on the highway, the vehicle suddenly lost all power. The gas pedal became unresponsive, and the engine ceased functioning entirely—without any prior warning or indicators. I was forced to coast into a nearby parking lot to prevent a potential collision. This incident put both myself and my child at serious risk of injury or worse, had it occurred at a higher speed or in heavier traffic. Once stopped, the vehicle would not restart. I had no choice but to have it towed to the dealership for evaluation. A week later, the dealership diagnosed the issue as a locked-up engine, confirming that a full engine replacement is necessary. Unfortunately, the replacement engine is currently on backorder, and they are unable to provide an estimated time of arrival. To make matters worse, the dealership has no loaner vehicles available for at least a month. GM only offers a rental reimbursement of $44 per day, which is significantly below the cost of even a basic rental vehicle in our area ($74/day). This leaves me with limited transportation options, even though I am currently making monthly payments of over $1,400 on a vehicle that is completely unusable. Adding to the severity of this situation, the vehicle is also subject to a manufacturer recall, but no remedy or parts are currently available to resolve the issue. As a parent of multiple children, this entire experience has left me shaken. I cannot begin to imagine the consequences had this failure happened at a higher speed or in less forgiving conditions. I am extremely concerned for my family’s safety going forward. GM has stated they will not extend or provide additional warranty coverage until the repair is complete, which leaves me feeling unprotected and anxious about the future reliability of this vehicle. The absence of warning signs and the total loss of power while driving make this a critical safety concern that must be addressed. I urge NHTSA to hold the manufacturer accountable.

May 29, 2025

Unusual knocking noises, performance issues, high RPM, - Traction control light is on Feels at times the engine is on verge of losing power while I'm driving on the highway with my children and I could get hit check engine light blinking constantly

May 22, 2025

Feels like the transmission is slipping. When I step on the gas it makes a jerking/ tugging motion like its pulling backwards and feels as though it has no power. It’s gotten progressively worse now over 10k miles and I should not have any engine problems with a new car. This happens every time I drive it. The problem is not fixing itself it’s getting worse by the day.

May 22, 2025

I took my car into the Fowler Chevrolet (AKA Century Chevrolet) Dealership in Broomfield, Colorado to get the engine recall addressed for my 2023 Chevy Tahoe-RST. I was told GM doesn't have a solution and has not sent any parts to the dealerships to deal with the recall. This is a significant safety issue/concern since I drive my [XXX] daughter every day in this vehicle. How is an OEM like GM allowed to get away with not having an immediate fix available to such a significant safety issue where an engine just fails and could fail without any warning lights on a highway. Extremely dangerous and nerve racking to drive this vehicle knowing there is this safety recall. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6

Engine performance issues, engine hesitation, abnormal shifting, and reduced propulsion. Interior dash and radio illumination goes black. Blinkers fail to work; no sound comes from the radio and speakers. Mirrors fail to tuck after command given to do so.

I was driving on Highway and system said engine oil hot. 10 seconds later the engine stopped. Could not get it restarted as I moved over to the shoulder. Had vehicle towed and engine was seized. 28,000 miles on vehicle.

Apr 30, 2025

I filled my car up with gas and turned it on and it started shaking. Several warnings popped up on the dashboard screen including, Service ESC, Service traction control, And forward collision system unavailable. My cruise control was disabled I had to hold my foot at an angle to keep the speed at 45-50 mph, Causing it to take 10 hours for me to get home from Austin to Dallas. The check engine light was on the entire time and flashed for the last hour to hour and a half. I was unable to pull over at that time because it was dark And I was in the middle of nowhere by myself. The next day I turned my car on.The only thing on was the check engine light, Is , however , around 1 pm that day it Started doing the same thing. I drove it from My patient's house in allen To galleria chevrolet in Dallas. They told me my battery was too low to run diagnostics and I needed to replace it. So I bought a battery and brought it to them. They replaced the Next morning And told me there were no codes showing up so There was nothing wrong with my car and it was a fluke. Exactly one week later the same thing happened to my car. I called the dealership and they Hao it toewd to the service dept. After I repeatedly called them to check on the status of my car, they told me it was the fuel injector #1. They then were able to apply for a loaner car for me as I am a hospice nurse. These are same exact issues that the GM 6.2 L engines are having with the recall they just announced. I have a 5.3 L engine. I am afraid to put my kids in my car. Please help get GM to take responsibility for this!

We were driving on the highways, we had to break and the car shut off, we barely made it to the side of the road and the car would not turn over, start, or go in to neutral, which was very unsafe. Had to have it drug on the tow truck since it wouldn’t go to neutral and at the dealer it had 17 codes. The engine seized and they are having to order a new engine.

Apr 8, 2025

While driving on the highway at high speed, my vehicle suddenly shut down and went into neutral. After a few minutes of trying to start it, it started and I was able to drive it home. The following day, on my way to the dealership for an inspection, while driving on a busy street, it shut down again. This time, it wouldn't restart, and I had to call the police and a tow truck to have it towed to the dealership. I was freaking out as I had my daughter inside the car with me. At that point, the vehicle had around 26,000 miles. The dealership inspected it and determined the engine was faulty and needed to be replaced. After the engine was replaced, the vehicle seemed fine, but recently, I've been experiencing problems again. The car struggles to start when it shuts off during stops, using the auto shut-off feature, and there's an intermittent hard shifting issue. It feels like the engine is failing again or maybe the transmission, but I've been told that unless the dealership can replicate the issue when I bring it in, they can't do anything. I'm concerned about being stranded on the road again, especially since my daughter is always with me. The vehicle’s engine and mechanical components don’t seem reliable, and I no longer feel safe driving it. However, I have no other option as it is my daily car for work and everything else. I’ve asked for an extended warranty from the dealership after the engine replacement, but I was told GMC doesn’t offer one for this issue. I’ve seen others on social media report similar problems, and I want to share my experience, as I’m just one of many customers facing this issue.

Engine: Power lost and engine shut down. Yes, it is available for inspection. Warning Lamps: Engine lamp came on: [XXX] [XXX] Engine shut down while driving. While bring my Grandson, home from school. I was on the ramp to exit the interstate, at the stop sign I lightly touched my brakes because I was going very slow, nothing was coming when I accelerated the engine totally shut down in between both lanes on a state highway. All of the warning lamps on the dashboard were lighting up and blinking, all of the alerts were making noises, no power and I had no control of the vehicle, then the “press start signal” came on, I had to quickly place from drive to park, and then press the start button to crank the vehicle. While this was going on my Grandson asked me in a startled voice “what’s happening”. Scary is not the word “I saw my life and his life flash before my eyes” with my Grandson in the vehicle. That’s a [XXX] of a feeling that you never want to experience. Then he said “this is nothing but a tin can ”. All of my family calls this vehicle a “Tin Can”! This was a very dangerous situation that could have been life-threatening or death. The problem has not been reproduced. Dealership sent a GM Field Service Engineer to inspect vehicle on 3/18/25. I have had many problems with this vehicle that cannot be diagnosed. Engineer test drove twice and scanned for codes before and after test drives. His findings: no codes found, was unable to reproduce power loss, and loose negative terminal on battery post tightened. At approximately 19.000 miles when the car sits for an extended period of time, at the first start up, blue smoke comes from the exhaust tail pipe. Brought it to the dealer and they said that, that was normal. With the issues they are having with the engines, I wanted this to be noted, because blue smoke is indicative of either bad piston rings or bad valve seals. This should not be happening on a vehicle with 19,000 miles and have oil changes at every 3000 miles.

We were driving on a busy interstate in Knoxville, TN on a Sunday. We were 2 hours from home and my 2023 Tahoe basically went into limp mode while I was in the fast lane and the check engine light came on. No warning in advance. The speed reduced, which backed traffic up, and put me and my 4 children in danger. We finally got off the interstate and the vehicle had to be towed in to the nearest dealership. I had a friend drive us to enterprise where they put us in a Jeep Grand Wagoneer. On Monday, I received a call from the dealership stating they had good and bad news. The good news was the repair is covered by warranty but the bad news was it will be 2-3 months before they can get the part. The part is on back order and several people are waiting ahead of me. The said part is a valve body for the engine/transmission. The dealership also informed me that warranty will not cover a non-GM vehicle and that they will only pay for a rental up to 44.00/day. It’s not my fault the part is on back order, nor that enterprise gave me a non-GM vehicle. Also, I have a family of 6, which is why I have a Tahoe and I cannot be put in a small sedan. My children play sports, we have upcoming vacation, and quite frankly, I didn't pay 90,000.00 for a vehicle to be placed in a vehicle that I don’t feel is safe for my family. If I had wanted a sedan, I would have bought one. GM should take better care of their customers, especially when something is like this is not the customers fault!!! I have contacted GM and have been told I will be called back by a supervisor each time I talk to someone. This is unacceptable!!

2023 with 34,000 miles on the 6.2 engine. Shutoff while driving. Engine is bad and will need to be replaced. GM should be forced to do a recall

Mar 24, 2025

Started having an issue a few weeks ago with the vehicle shutting off while driving for no reason without warning causing a very serious safety concern. This issue seemed to stop until one Saturday when i started the vehicle i noticed a small tick. This ticking sound continued to grow. The vehicle then shut off again with warning while driving. 7 days had gone by since the first episode. When I started the vehicle again there was a very pronounce rapping and it sounded like parts inside the motor were coming apart. When I arrived home i called Onstar. They did a diagnostic twice and said the motor was not showing any codes and running perfect. I had it towed from my house and upon inspection the motor is blown with 10,000 miles

The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, there was an abnormal sound coming from the engine compartment. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, who then determined that the sound was the lifters tapping. The contact was informed that all 16 lifters needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken to a different dealer, who also diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the failure was with the lifters, and informed the previous dealer might not have been repaired the vehicle properly. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was opened. The failure mileage was 28,000.

Engine failure due to rod bearing failure, without warning at 16,500k miles. It is available for inspection if needed. Currently is at dealership waiting for new engine. The vehicle shut off while driving at 40mph forcing me to have to stop in the middle of a roadway without any shoulders or turn offs. The problem was diagnosed and confirmed by a certified Chevrolet dealership. The failed engine will be sent to GM by the dealer. There were no warning lights prior to this incident or after.

Vehicle broke down on 12/1/2024. Had it towed to the nearest dealership. Dealership claimed that gasoline was pumped into the tank. We knew that wasn't the case. I called the store we last used for fuel and spoke to the manager. She was able to pull my wife up on surveillance and verified that she pumped diesel fuel from a "diesel fuel only" pump on 11/21/24. We also verified that the fuel in the holding tank at the store was actual diesel fuel. My wife purchased 23.45 gallons of diesel fuel. The tank size on this Tahoe is a 24 gallon tank. We had burned half of this fuel before the vehicle broke down. We also verified that no one else had complained about the fuel from the store. Dealership said it needed a new engine. We had it towed to another dealership for a second opinion, but they couldn't verify what happened because the 1st dealership had cleaned out the fuel system. I called GM but they won't help because they are going off what the 1st dealership claimed. Vehicle is still under power train warranty, but they won't fix it. This vehicle left us stranded on the side of the road. Insurance was called and a representative did go and look at the Tahoe. He called back and said that the issue does not fall within our policy.

Traveling down the highway at 65 MPH the engine/transmission started bucking and you could hear the rear wheel lock up. The vehicle then would not shift and reduced the speed to 55MPH. Check engine light came on. Chevrolet is telling me the valve body needs to be replaced but keep driving it because it is on national backorder. After doing some research GM is hiding the issue and keeps installing faulty valve bodies. The GM fix is that they programmed the transmission to reduce speed when it notices excessive wear. GM is not standing behind the issue as it has been like pulling teeth to get a loaner vehicle.

Mar 12, 2025

First the front collision warning systems kept coming on and off. Then the engine died on the highway and I had to restart. I drove a little further and it died again and would not restart. I had it towed to the dealer and they are telling me the engine has seized and needs to be replaced. I have 40,000 mile and the car is 2 years old. It was very dangerous to have the car die twice while at speed on the highway.

I was driving my 2023 Tahoe on the interstate, in the far left lane. I had my wife and 2 kids in the car. Suddenly I noticed the air turned off and the dashboard screen went blank. I noticed that the car was now in neutral and the accelerator was not providing any response. I put on my hazards and started to merge across 7 lanes of highway without using brakes because we were going up a hill. We lost momentum in the second to last lane and could not move. The Tahoe then switched to park and the electrical system kept shutting off and rebooting. This also resulted in the hazard lights turning off for brief moments in time, so it was not effectively alerting other travelers of our dysfunction. (This repeated for the next 30 minutes until the battery died.) During that 30 minutes we were stuck in the lane with traffic buzzing around both sides of us honking and people screaming at us. My wife and 2 young children were upset and crying from the commotion. Poluce and emergency response team arrived, flagged traffic and drug the vehicle off the road.car was stuck in Park, with no ability to move to neutral. So tire rubber was smeared across the last 2 lanes and into the right shoulder. Later a tow truck arrived and hauled to dealership. The car had ~11,000 miles and bought the vehicle 2 months ago. This should not happen with new cars.

Engine, (6.2 liter V8), quit without warning at highway speed, nearly causing head-on collision. Engine wouldn't re-start and needed to be towed to dealership on flatbed truck. Vehicle also wouldn't shift into neutral requiring it to be dragged onto flatbed. Chevy dealer states new engines are on backorder with no expected repair date.

I was driving in the fast lane and all of a sudden my car went into neutral. Thankfully, my children were not in the car and I was able to merge over safely to the side of the freeway. after as I barely pulled off the car completely shut off. I tried to turn back on several times but would not start back up. I had my Tahoe towed to the dealership, and they told me the engine seized up and was a failed engine. Dealership ended up ordering another engine and it was missing some sort of plug that failed and had to replace again!

While slowing for a red light my vehicle shut off, completely powered off. I had to press the ignition start button to turn it back on. I pulled to the side of the road, then two messages flashed on the dash screen, Service Transmission and Service Brake Assist. I called and scheduled a vehicle service at a local Chevrolet service center. After the service center evaluated my vehicle (in their possession for 72 hours) they stated there were no diagnostic findings and they could not replicate the issue. A vehicle randomly shutting off with no identifiable or repairable issue is a public safety concern.

Our engine (v8 6.2 liter) failed with out warning while my wife was driving. She said that while driving all of a sudden the dash started flashing telling her to restart the engine. The car just started shutting down. She had to immediately pull off into the median and barely made it out of the fast lane when the car stopped. She was so close to the fast lane that there wasn’t enough room for a person to stand without being hit. We had our Tahoe towed to the closest dealer thinking maybe it was an alternator. The dealer confirmed it was a failed engine and that our vehicle is the third vehicle on their lot with the same failed engine. All of the failed engine vehicles have right at 40 k miles plus or minus 1k miles. The only problem that we had noticed before the failure, happened that morning when I took the Tahoe to fuel up for my wife prior to her leaving. I noticed the engine cranked slow for a second before it started. I thought maybe the battery is just getting weak and that as she drove it that day, it would charge the battery. The exact failure as I understand it from the technician is “ the 5th cylinder failed in the lower half of the engine.” Apparently this is failing because the bearings weren’t properly seated during manufacturing.

The vehicle shut off on the expressway causing a very dangerous situation. After several attempts it would not start again. I had to have the vehicle towed to the dealer and they advised me the engine has seized up. Most likely they told me the engine blew and will need replacing.

On Sunday January 12, I was driving the vehicle on the highway with my cruise control on. The engine started missing the speed dropped a bit as the cruise control would not hold the speed. A mile or so later the vehicle engine started knocking with a metallic sound. I pulled over at the next exit and stopped at a store to look at the engine. There was nothing loose and a deep metallic knocking coming from the engine block, so I shut off the vehicle and called OnStar. At no time did any warning lights or other indicators come on. The gauges were normal. They/OnStar indicated I should not drive the vehicle, and they will tow to nearest Chevy Dealer for service and give me a $50 credit to take a Lyft to local airport to get a rental car. I was almost 4 hours away from home as I was travelling. After a week of turmoil with the local dealership I was told the vehicle needs a new engine. There is no ETA on the new engine as GM has to build it and has parts shortages. This was 5 weeks ago. I have been driving a rental since and there is still no indicate from the dealership about what happened or why. The vehicle is a 2023 and still under warranty but I am having to pay for the rental and request reimbursement which hasn't happened to date. There is very little information available, and I am in no man's land without a vehicle, so I have an open ended rental situation.

Fuel module failure. Tahoe stalled while on highway at normal speed of 55 mph. Near miss accident. Very dangerous, could have resulted in injury or fatality. Tahoe had to be towed to Chevy dealer, caused major problems. Tahoe only had 24,000 miles at time of incident.

Feb 3, 2025

1st incident- Engine had a bad lifter and cam shaft with 46,000miles. When this happened I was going through a railroad crossing, if the failure was bad enough and locked the engine up I would have been stuck on the tracks with my family. This issue could cause the motor to lock up if the lifter or cam shaft had a more serious failure. Dealer confirmed the lifter and cam shaft were bad and replaced. the engine had a vibration 2 weeks before the failure but the dealership could not identify or duplicate the issue. Vehicle was in the shop for 35 days to repair. 2nd incident- Parking brake and brake system locked up and would not release until the vehicle was reset. Scheduled vehicle to be towed in and the brakes locked up again while loading the vehicle to tow. Dealer is still troubleshooting the issue after 5 days. Errors on screen "Forward Collision System unavailable, Brake system failure 43mph top speed, Service steering column lock, service traction control, Service ESC, Service Brake Pad Monitor" If this happened while on the highway it had the chance to cause a serious wreck.

Feb 2, 2025

With 63,000 miles the vehicle experienced catastrophic engine failure on a freeway. This resulted in loss of power with no ability to get the vehicle to a safe location. It was determined that the #7 crankshaft bearing was the cause of failure and the compete engine was replaced as a result.

Traveling on the interstate late at night in the winter with my family, which includes small children, a clicking noise began but then went away. No diagnostic lamps came on, everything seemed fine, vehicle responded appropriately. Moments later, on a remote stretch of interstate, we lost power and the engine shut down. The vehicle would not turn back on. We were stranded in the dark on a freezing night.

Jan 29, 2025

I was driving down the interstate and with the no warning the vehicle would not accelerate any longer and tried to coast onto the exit. Totally stopped blocking all traffic on the exit. Could not crank the engine or at least put in to neutral to push out of the road. Had it towed to dealership and they said motor had seized up, connecting rod bearing seized on crankshaft causing extensive metal contamination throughout engine. Wanted GM to buy back the vehicle but would not. Only replaced the engine.

After getting gas just outside of Pueblo Colorado on [XXX] I was entering [XXX] and luckily I was in the right lane when all of a sudden no power to the vehicle. I was able to make it by inches in the clear on the shoulder of the road. Being [XXX], I had trouble crawling over the console through the passenger side of the vehicle because I could not safely see the traffic on the interstate to exit the vehicle on the driver side. The state police could not come to assist us with any type of traffic control because of other accidents. The BNSF railroad has a mutual aid pack with them when needed in an emergency situation. They were able to come assist us with the red lights for traffic control, and the tow truck arrived and was able to flatbed the vehicle to a GM Chevy dealership. The tow truck also delivered our 26 foot travel trailer to the nearby campground. If it wouldn’t have been for the BNSF police this could’ve been horrendous accident because of the traffic. I have never been in a more scary situation as with the 2023 Tahoe built by a major corporation and being as unsafe as it is. I have been told the engine needs to be replaced because the bearings failed with metal fragments found in the oil pan. GM has been aware of this problem with the 6.2 engine for many years and has never done anything. Is it gonna take people getting killed on the highway to get something done. On [XXX] while driving on the highway near Wash DC engine stopped, went to neutral. Would not start again. OnStar towed vehicle to Koons Chevrolet GMC Tyson in Vienna VA. 703 448 7221. On Tuesday [XXX] Koons Service Dept. looked at vehicle and determined that it was a thrown bearing and needed a new engine. There are 28,712 miles on vehicle. You can inspect if desired. Our safety was extremely compromised. We were on a 5 lane highway in the left hand lane going 65. Engine quit and we had to coast to the far right lane in heavy tra]c. We almost got hit several times on the maneuver and rear ended on the side of the road from oncoming vehicles while waiting for a tow. Dealer has work order to repair the vehicle. Vehicle was not inspected by the manufacturer that we know of, nor the police or insurance representatives. Only inspected by the dealership. The Service Department said the parts are on a "Galactic backorder" which means they do not know when they will come in. GM will not repurchase the vehicle or tell me when the vehicle can be repaired. Will not provide any compensation until the issue is resolved, which is unknown and could be months. It is an extreme financial hardship for me to cover my rental car (taxes and insurance for the rental car are not covered) and continue to pay the car payment and the insurance on a car that is not available to me. My case number with GM is [XXX]. GM has sent me to three representatives. Main bearing failure on my 6.2L at 17,000 miles. Starting making knocking noise, and within two miles it died and wouldn’t restart. No check engine light or warning lights. Blew a 40 amp fuse. Once replaced started but knocked and died. Dealership determined spun main causing internal engine failure. Motor replaced. Started making internal engine noise again like almost a spark knock type noise or rattle under acceleration. Has 32k miles on it now and bring into dealer next week for issue. Engine was on back order and took over a month to get.

The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that soon after purchasing the vehicle, the vehicle's lane assist feature would be active with no other vehicles in the contact vehicle's vicinity. The contact also stated that multiple other electrical defects would occur such as the backup camera activating while in drive(D), the instrument panel intermittently going blank, and various other defects. The vehicle was taken to the dealer on multiple occasions where they failed to duplicate the failure. The contact then stated that while driving at 80 MPH, the instrument panel went blank. The contact attempted to pull the vehicle over; however, an unknown turn-off of the vehicle warning message appeared on the instrument panel as a warning chime was also emitted from the vehicle. The contact then stated that the vehicle then came to an abrupt stop where the engine and brakes seized, while traveling at 34 MPH. Due to the failure, the contact was taken to the hospital where they were treated for whiplash, inflammation in the neck and spine, 7 bulging discs in the spine, and pain in various parts of the body. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed with engine failure; the vehicle's engine was replaced under warranty. Despite the repair, the contact refused to take possession of the vehicle as they did not feel safe driving the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was filed; the contact had yet to receive any assistance from the manufacturer. The failure mileage was approximately 15,000.

While sitting at an intersection of a busy 4 lane road the engine stoped without warning and could not be restarted. Due to a poor design by GM, the Tahoe has no ability to be put in neutral when the engine isn’t running. We were stuck at a busy intersection an almost hit multiple times, until a tow truck could come since it cannot be put in neutral and pushed. Dealer inspected engine and found it had been burning oil. The car never gave any warning lights that it was low on oil or that there were any engine issues. They did an oil change and gave the car back. The car was running, but within less than 5 miles of driving it it started to shake and make horrible noises. At this point, I was driving on the interstate. I was able to limp the vehicle back to the dealer. It was diagnosed by a dealer with spun engine bearing. I was told they were very close to seizing up and I would’ve been stranded on the interstate with no shoulder. This could’ve caused a major issue as I was on a busy interstate and the vehicle would’ve locked up. There was no shoulder at this point due to construction. Through both of these issues the vehicle never gave any dashboard warning lights. There are two major design flaws. The engine has an issue with its bearings. Also, there needs to be a way to put the vehicle into neutral while the engine is not running. It is not safe to not be able to put these vehicles into neutral.

On 5/27/23 I purchased a new 2023 Chevy Tahoe RST with a 6.2L V8 engine. On 5/28/2024, between 5 and 6pm (rush hour) I merged onto State Highway 32 in Maryland. I accelerated to match the speed of traffic and moved to the far-left lane. I was traveling between 60 and 65 MPH when my vehicle shifted into neutral by itself. I was unable to shift the vehicle back into drive. There was no shoulder on the left, so I had to coast through 2 lanes of traffic moving at a similar speed to reach the far-right lane. I could have very easily caused an accident, injuring myself or others. After successfully pulling off onto the shoulder I was still unable to move out of neutral. I had to shut off my engine and restart the vehicle to shift it into drive. I was unable to recreate the failure and safely made it home. In the days following the incident, I began to hear a clicking sound when I accelerated. At no time did a check engine light turn on and my OnStar vehicle report showed my Tahoe was in good health, including the engine. I brought the vehicle to Criswell Chevrolet on 6/14/24 to service the vehicle. I was told later that afternoon that my vehicle required a brand new engine. The vehicle and engine are available for inspection upon request. I was awestruck that a brand new vehicle with 19,000 miles could possibly need to have the engine replaced. While conducting online research, I see that other 2023 Tahoe owners have had a similar experience.

2023 Tahoe High Country was being operated at Interstate speeds when the vehicle shifted to neutral, engine died and the vehicle experienced a rapid decrease in speed. Check engine light activated as well as dashboard lights. Was able to guide vehicle to side of road. Unable to start vehicle and was towed to local dealership. Learned the engine was blown as well as a large 20amp fuse. I am an expert in traffic crash reconstruction and this type of incident could lead to serious injury or death.
