This vehicle is dangerous. Looks great on the outside but horrible on the inside under the hood! Since my son bought one for me it’s had problems with engine revving and not shifting gears, and air conditioner continually going out even after repairs, and power steering leaks. I kept taking it to repair and oddly no technician anywhere could help! Read the reviews and watch the youtubes! This vehicle (all years) should be stripped from the market and considered under lemon law no matter the age! The culmination of my problems happened when leaving town, entering highway and accelerating and clicking cruise control! Immediately the car revved past 7 rpms and out of control! I had all I could do to stop it - then it died completely! The tow truck driver was also in an unsafe situation with many cars passing at high speed when he had to put special lifts on the back wheels! Scary! Towed to local Chevy dealer and without giving us the computer codes and no actual written estimate for repairs, they bluntly said metal shavings in engine and possibly a bearing and $11,500. And it’s typical for transmission problems and steering so up to $18,500! Really?! And if no one could ever detect and fix it before, how can they now? All this with the added comment, we can’t guarantee once we get into it that it will run properly and not need more repairs! LEMON! This is a very unsafe vehicle with notorious problems all in the face of competing with looks of other competitor cars! I praise God I was alone when this happened and no other passengers. If you love your life, family, and others, definitely join me in this recall / removal from market effort. Don’t take my opinion, read the huge number of complaints by many other owners and past owners of any and every chevy traverse! Horrifying! Thank you for reading and acting! God Bless you!
Two items: Item 1. Transmission switched to neutral by itself traveling at 65 mph. At about 5-6 seconds after the incident, transmission resumed with no further problem. This has happened 3 times. First time was mid 2022. Second and third times happened in late 2022. Appeared to be an intermittent problem. Took to dealership. It happened to a mechanic who drove the vehicle. Dealership thought they fixed the problem. A dealership mechanic, while addressing item number 2 below in 3rd week of April 2023, experienced the motor going into neutral. They had replaced the ignition switch to possibly fix item #2, and were test driving the car, when during the test drives, the motor went into neutral by itself two separate test drives. Item 2. While driving at highway speeds on a freeway in mid February 2023, the engine stopped (speedometer and RPM gauges went to zero). The whole dashboard went black. Power steering was lost. Was lucky to be able to pull over to side of road and stop. Turning ignition key off and on did not restart the car. Took ignition key out, replaced the ignition key, and the car started right up and we were able to continue our journey. This has happened 3 times total so far since February 2023. It has happened at random times. The dealership has not seen any computer feedback to indicate what is wrong for item 1 or item 2 here. So now, there is a new ignition switch, and we are hoping item 2 will not happen on a freeway, or on a crowded road, or anywhere!. I feel fortunate we had a way to pull off to the side of the road. If I was in a middle lane, I don’t know what could have happened. It could have been a pileup accident.
I was driving at approximately 30mph on a road the traction control/stability track light came on and my car lost almost all power. it went from 30 to about 5mph. thankfully i was on a slower road and close to my house so I was able to get home. If I would have been on a highway I could have been killed. i quick google search showed thousands of other complaints with the same problem, my question is why is nothing being done. are they waiting for a certain number of deaths??
It happened 2 yrs ago in May. My kids and I were waiting in the vehicle and it cut off all of a sudden. My boyfriend checked it out and wasn’t sure what the problem was. The vehicle got towed. Mechanic said it was a bad ECM. Whomever sold me the vehicle had an Arcadia ECM. The mechanic from the dealership I took it to said it’s on back order. 6 months later he said there’s nothing they can do for my vehicle. So it stayed in my yard for so long. We bought a used ECM from a used auto part. Today my boyfriend had to go on YouTube just to figure out what’s wrong. He was under the hood almost the whole day and now it’s fixed. The only problem is the check engine light is on.
Vehicle started having a rattling noise when it was started, coming from the passenger side of the motor at just under 86k miles on the odometer. I have been advised by a Certified Mechanic that the timing chain has stretched, receiving a stored code of P0008 with no Check Engine Light being active. The entire timing chain assembly now has to be replaced.
I was driving and it it lost power when I started it it did a terrible noise like clicking. Mechanic looked at it and showed me the timing chain is 3 links loose. It was slipping and missing. My children were in the vehicle when this happened. Consumer stated car died it jumped back, jerked hard like it was in reverse then restarted it and got it to the house.
The contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Traverse. The contact stated that after refueling, the vehicle would stall. The contact mentioned that the vehicle required to be revved in order to prevent it from stalling. The contact stated that when the failure occurred a previous time, there was a lot of smoke, and she noticed that the driver's side air filter had caught fire, however, extinguished itself. The contact stated that she did not have to contact the fire department, nor did she sustain any injuries. The contact stated that she contacted the dealer, and she was advised that there were no recalls on her vehicle at the time. The failure mileage was 100,000.

My check engine light started coming on and found out from mechanic there was an issue with the stretching of the timing chain (P0008) . Car started making clanging noises and now needing a $3000 repair . After researching the problem, I have found out that there was an ongoing problem with belts and had recalls for 2009 , which was covered. Gm knowing there was a faulty design tried to reprogram the oil life monitor as a corrective action for the population of vehicles meaning THEY recognized the sensitivity of system. It wasn’t effective enough because now people are having issues at higher mileage and outside their warranty. GM knew this would happen and are now pushing the cost onto their loyal customers. GM needs to show loyalty to their customers and own up to the poor design. My traverse is now drivable and with all the financial difficulties of the pandemic , I can’t afford the repair.
I WAS DRIVING MY 2010 CHEVROLET TRAVERSE LT ON THE FREEWAY, WHEN WITH NO WARNINGS AT ALL. THE ENGINE SHUT OFF AT 67 MPH IN MID HEAVY TRAFFIC. I POINTED HER TO THE CENTER DIVIDER SINCE I WAS IN THE FAST LANE. WE CAME TO A HALT AND I WASN'T ALL THE WAY OUT OF TRAFFIC. I GOT IT HOME TO MY MECHANIC AND HE SAID HE HAD NO IDEA WHAT HAPPENED AT ALL TO HER, SINCE I HAD JUST HAD HER SERVICED AND WAS TOLD SHE WAS READY TO TRAVEL. MY MECHANIC WAS DUMB FOUNDED AND SHOWED ME JUST IN THE LAST YEAR THIS HAS HAPPENED TO MANY DRIVER'S WITH MY SAME CAR. AND MINE WAS JUST SERVICED AND A NEW STARTER PUT IS, AS WELL AS THE TIMING BELT LOOKED OVER. OIL CHANGED, TRANSMISSION LOOKED AT, NEW CATALYTIC CONVERTERS VALVES CLEANED, PLUGS REPLACED, AND FAST TANK AND LINES PURGED AND CLEANED.

A FEW MONTHS AGO MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I HAD MY MECHANIC TEST IT AND IT CAME BACK FOR TIMING CHAIN. HE SAID HE KNEW RIGHT AWAY WHEN HE SAW THE CODE BECAUSE HE'S SEEN A LOT OF TRAVERSE'S WITH TIMING CHAIN PROBLEMS. I HAD LESS THAN 90,000 MILES ON MY CAR! I CALLED GM BUT THEY SAID THERE IS NO RECALL FOR MY VEHICLE. LAST MONTH I FOUND OUT MY COUSIN JUST HAD HER TIMING CHAIN REPLACED ON HER TRAVERSE JUST BEFORE 100,000 MILES. THERE ARE ALSO A TON OF FORUM POSTS ABOUT TRAVERSE TIMING CHAIN ISSUES. IT'S ABSURD SUCH A CRUCIAL PART IS FAULT IN SO MANY OF THESE CARS. A RECALL NEEDS TO BE ISSUED.
AS I WAS DRIVING THE ENGINE CUT OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD AND THE CAR WOULDN'T START. THIS HAPPENED WITHOUT WARNING. NO ENGINE LIGHTS, TEMPERATURE GAUGE, ETC. I WAS TRAVELING AT ABOUT 35 MPH AND HAD JUST LET OFF THE ACCELERATOR TO MAKE A TURN WHEN I NOTICED THE POWERING STEERING WAS OUT AND REALIZED THE ENGINE HAD CUT OFF UNEXPECTEDLY. THANK GOD I HAD JUST GOT OFF THE EXPRESSWAY. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND AFTER SEARCHING THE INTERNET SAW A LOT OF OTHER PEOPLE HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE. THIS SHOULD BE OF GRAVE CONCERN AND A SAFETY RECALL SHOULD BE ISSUED.

LIFT GATE ELECTRICAL ONLY WORKS SOMETIMES AND OTHERS IT GOES UP THE STARTS TO CLOSE HALF WAY UP. IV BEEN HIT IN THE HEAD A FEW TIMES. PASSENGER WINDOW WON'T ROLL UP OR DOWN FROM DRIVER SIDE. ALL ISSUES I WAS INFORMED WERE DUE TO FAULTY MANUFACTURING ISSUES.

I AM CONTACTING YOU REGARDING A 2010 CHEVROLET TRAVERSE LT I PURCHASED FROM CARVANA. THE VEHICLE WAS DELIVERED ON SUNDAY, OCTOBER 13, 2020. THE VEHICLE WAS RE-SCHEDULED SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE IT WAS DELIVERED. I WAS CONTACTED VIA PHONE ON THE DELIVERY DATE VIA CARVANA CUSTOMER ADVOCATE TO INSTRUCT ME THE VEHICLE DRIVER SIDE-VIEW MIRROR, DRIVER DOOR LATCH WAS DAMAGED IN ROUTE TO THE CARVANA HUB LOCATED IN BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA. THE ADVOCATE ADVISED ME THEY CAN RE-SCHEDULED THE DELIVERY TO HAVE IT REPAIRED. I INFORMED THE ADVOCATE I WAS IN DESPERATE NEED OF A VEHICLE AND COULD NOT AFFORD FOR IT TO BE RE-SCHEDULED AGAIN. SHE ASSURED ME THAT I CAN TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A CERTIFIED SERVICE CENTER AND HAVE A SERVICE ADVISOR TO GIVE THEM A CALL TO COVER THE LABOR AND REPAIRS AND THEY WILL COVER IT. UNFORTUNATELY, I HAD BEEN WITHOUT A VEHICLE FROM OCTOBER 2019 TO MARCH 2020 AFTER RECEIVING THIS VEHICLE IT HAS BEEN ISSUE AFTER ISSUE. THE REPAIRS THAT WAS DONE IS LISTED BELOW. RECENTLY BOUGHT THIS TRAVERSE 2010 LTZ FROM A PRIVATE OWNER AFTER 200 MILES ON THE ROAD THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TRIGGERED A FEW CODES P0008-P0017-P0420, UPON EXTENSIVE DIAGNOSTICS AT FOUR DIFFERENT PLACES. FROM HIGH END AUTHORIZED CHEVY DEALERS TO LOCAL AUTO REPAIR SHOPS IT HAS BEEN DETERMINED THE TIMING CHAIN NEEDS REPLACEMENT. THESE SAME ISSUES WERE RECALLED AND INVESTIGATED FOR THE PREVIOUS YEAR 2009 ON THESE MODELS AND OBVIOUSLY IT HAS NOT BEEN SOLVE FOR THE 2010. WHY THERE IS NO RECALL FOR THIS CAR YET, HOW MANY COMPLAINTS DOES IT TAKE TO TAKE ACTION. WE ARE IN THE MIDDLE OF AN EMERGENCY AND FINANCIAL CRISIS WITH BIG CAR COMPANIES BEING BAIL OUT. PRIVATE OWNERS LIKE ME DON'T HAVE THE FUNDS TO COVER A REPAIR FOR OVER $3500. THIS WAS DEFINITELY MY MISTAKE BUT I WAS COMING FROM A LONG OWNERSHIPS LINE OF CHEVY CARS FROM CRUZE TO MALIBU AND NOW THE TRAVERSE . BUT THIS ISSUE IS JUST TOO MUCH . THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TOWED TO THE LOCAL DEALER PATRIOT CHEVROLET LOCATED AT 40 AUTO PARK BLVD, LIMERICK PA, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO A FAULTY TIMING CHAIN. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000.

SO I NOW HAVE A BIG BLUE PERMANENT YARD FIXTURE BECAUSE WHO CAN AFFORD TO FIX THIS CAR IN THE PANDEMIC. I'VE HAVE RESEARCHED THIS AND THERE HAS BEEN ALOT OF PEOPLE WITH THIS ISSUE. SOMETIMES WHEN TRYING TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKS UP AND MAKES IT REALLY HARD TO TURN SOMETIMES WHEN DOING SO IT LOOSENS UP ALL OF A SUDDEN CAUSING IT TO JERK/ TURN TO FAST WHICH COULD CAUSE AND ACCIDENT. THE 2ND ROW HEAT/ AIR CONTROLS GET REALLY HOT EVEN WHEN NOT IN USE.
THE CAR SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING ON THE ROAD MULTIPLE TIMES. IT WOULD THEN START BACK UP WHILE STILL ROLLING ON THE HIGHWAY. AT LIGHTS IT SHUTOFF AND I THEN HAD TOBRESTART IT IT DID THIS ALL THE WAY HOME. THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. SCANNER SAYS P0019 STATES IT'S THE CORRELATION N TIMING CHAIN AND CAM SENSOR. UPON RESEARCHING THERE ARE MULTIPLE CASES OF THIS HAPPENING WITH THIS IN PARTICULAR MOTOR. DOING THIS WHILE ON THE ROAD IS INCREDIBLE UNSAFE AND COULD HAVE CAUSE ME TO BE IN AN ACCIDENT.

MY TRAVERSE CURRENTLY HAS 75K MILES AND IS ALREADY HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE TIMING CHAIN. I TOOK IT TO CHEVY BUT. WAS GOING TO BE AROUND 3K TO GET FIXED. THIS CAR IS ALMOST BRAND NEW AND WE'VE TAKEN CARE OF IT AND UPPER MAINTENANCE. ITS STILL RUNNING BUT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON AND I CANT AFFORD IT. I THOUGHT CHEVY WOULD STICK TO THEIR WORD AND KEEPING GREAT QUALITY CARS. IVE ALWAYS BOUGHT CHEVY AND CURRENTLY MY 3RD CHEVY CAR BUT ITS OBSURD HOW CHEAPER AND MORE PROBLEMATIC THEYRE GETTING AND IVE LOOKED INTO IT ONLINE AND A LOT OF PEOPLE ON VARIOUS SITES HAVE COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE TIMING CHAIN AT AROUND 80K MILES AND ONCE IT GETS FIXED IT HAS THE CONSTANT PROBLEM OVER AND OVER. ALL I ASK IS CHEVY TO MAKE IT RIGHT AND KEEP THEIR WORD AND SELL GOOD CARS AND PUT A RECALL ON IT AND FIX THE PROBLEM. I KNOW CHEVY MAKES GREAT MONEY AND THEY CAN MAKE IT RIGHT AND GIVE PEOPLE WHAT THEY PAY FOR. MY CAR STILL HAVE A LOT OF LIFE AND IM JUST SO DISAPPOINTED IN THIS, ITS SO STRESSFUL. PLEASE HELP. THE BIGGEST ISSUE IS INTERMITTENTLY GOING INTO "LOW ENGINE" MODE, WARNING BLINKS FOR ONLY A SECOND THEN THE CAR WILL NOT GO MORE THAN 10 MILES AN HOUR. THIS IS QUITE DANGEROUS TO ME, MY FAMILY, AND OTHER DRIVERS- IMAGINE THIS HAPPENING ON THE FREEWAY? DOES THIS ISSUE NEED TO RESULT IN A DEATH BEFORE IT IS LOOKED INTO BY THE COMPANY? THE CAR WILL NOT SHIFT OUT OF GEARS- HAPPENS INTERMITTENTLY WITH NO WARNING SIGNS WHATSOEVER. THE ISSUE HAPPENS WHEN I GO ABOVE 40 MPH, THE THE RPMS GOES TO 9+OFF THE CHARTS AND I CANNOT GO INTO THE NEXT GEAR. SINCE IT HAPPENS ONLY RANDOMLY MECHANICS HAVE A HARD TIME FINDING ISSUE SINCE IT DOES NOT ALWAYS DO THIS FOR THEM. OUR LAST VISIT SUGGESTED TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION, BUT AT A PRICE THAT IS MORE THAN THE VALUE OF THE CAR, THAT IS HARD TO STOMACH. LOTS OF COMPLAINTS OF THIS ISSUE AND CONSIDERING THE 2009 RECALL, MY TWO CENTS IS THE 2010 MODEL MOST OBVIOUSLY HAS SIMILAR MANUFACTURING ISSUES AND A DEEPER INVESTIGATION NEEDS TO TAKE PLACE. OTHER ISSUES, CAR LURCHES/JERKS WHEN PUT INTO DRIVE FROM PARK. PLEASE BACK YOUR COMPANY AND IN GOOD FAITH TAKE CARE OF YOUR CUSTOMERS AS SOME OF US WORK HARD FOR OUR MONEY, THIS SHOULD NOT BE THE RESULT OF SOMETHING ANYONE TAKES PRIDE IN!

THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED US THAT THE TIMING CHAIN HAD STRETCHED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. AFTER LOOKING UP RECALLS ON THE VEHICLE AND THE PROBLEM OTHERS ARE HAVING WITH THE SAME MAKE AND MODEL I CALLED GM TO SEE IF THEY WERE WILLING TO HELP. I WAS TOLD THERE'S NOTHING THEY CAN DO BECAUSE THE PROBLEM IS NOT BIG AS OF NOW BUT IN THE FUTURE IF THEY CONTINUE TO HAVE THEM PROBLEMS THEY WOULD SEND ME OUT A RECALL ON IT. THERE'S DEFINITELY A DEFECT WITHIN THIS MODEL YEAR'S ENGINE SYSTEM INVOLVING THE POWER TRAIN. I AM REQUESTING AN INVESTIGATION AND POSSIBLE RECALL. I CAN'T PUT OUT MORE MONEY TO FIX A MAINTENANCE PROBLEM THAT WILL NEVER BE FIXED. THE CAR SHAKES AS IF IT'S IDLE WHEN DRIVING AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT BLINKS OFF AND ON PROFUSELY. ON 2/18/2018 MY REDUCE ENGINE WARMING POPPED ON WHILE I'M DOING 75MPH AND MY CAR LOST POWER WHILE I'M ON THE CALIFORNIA FREEWAY, SHAKING AND SLOWING COMPLETELY DOWN. I'M PREGNANT AND I WAS SCARED THAT SOMEONE COULDN'T OF JUST SLAMMED RIGHT INTO ME. I PULLED OVER TO SHUT DOWN MY VEHICLE TO TRY TO RESET IT BUT IT DIDN'T WORK. ALL THE SAME WARNING LIGHTS CAME BACK ON AND THE CAR WOULDN'T GO PAST 40MPH WHILE SPUTTERING ON MY WAY TO WORK. I BOUGHT THE SUV USED TWO YEARS AGO WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS UNTIL RECENTLY. THE MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT HE FIXED AT LEASE 12 VEHICLES WITH THIS PROBLEM IN THE LAST YEAR.

GENERAL MOTORS HAS NOT ACCEPTED RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS ISSUE WHICH HAS BEEN WIDELY REPORTED. WHILE IN MOTION ON NOVEMBER 4, 2017, OUR VEHICLE BECAME DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER EVENTUALLY SHUTTING OFF. UPON TRYING TO RESTART THE VEHICLE WE HEARD A GRINDING SOUND. WE IMMEDIATELY PUSHED THE VEHICLE TO A NEAR BY REPUTABLE REPAIR SHOP. UPON THEIR EVALUATION IT WAS DETERMINED THE TIMING CHAIN WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. WE CONTACTED GENERAL MOTORS TO INFORM THEM OF THE ISSUE, THEY RESPONDED BY HAVING US TO TOW OUR VEHICLE TO DON BROWN CHEVROLET IN SAINT LOUIS MISSOURI. GENERAL MOTORS ASKED US TO AUTHORIZE DON BROWN TO "BREAK DOWN" THE VEHICLE IN WHICH WE AGREED. WE WERE THEN INFORMED BECAUSE OF A COST ANALYSIS BEING PERFORMED BY GENERAL MOTORS AND DON BROWN, A BREAK DOWN OF THE VEHICLE WAS NOT NECESSARY AND NOTHING WOULD BE DONE BY THE MANUFACTURER TO REPAIR THE POWER STEERING OR TIMING CHAIN. IT IS WIDELY REPORTED OLD TIMING CHAINS WERE INSTALLED IN 2009-2011 CHEVY TRAVERSE WHICH HAS LED TO SEVERAL ENGINE FAILURES AND INOPERABLE VEHICLES OF CONSUMERS ACROSS THE COUNTRY. IT IS IRRESPONSIBLE FOR GENERAL MOTORS TO HAVE NOT ISSUED A RECALL ON THESE VEHICLES WITH TIMING CHAINS THAT STRETCH AND CAUSE ENGINE DAMAGE. GENERAL MOTORS HAS PLACED A HARDSHIP ON FAMILIES WHEN THEY REFUSE TO COVER THE VERY EXPENSIVE COST OF THESE REPAIRS. WE PURCHASED OUR VEHICLE LESS THAN 2 YEARS AGO FROM A CHEVY DEALER AND TO HAVE IT TO BECOME IMPOSSIBLE TO STEER AND SHUT OFF IN TRAFFIC IS VERY DANGEROUS AND NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED. THE CAR CANNOT BE DRIVEN AS IT IS UNSAFE. THE TIMING CHAIN IS ALSO GONE WHICH IS ANOTHER ISSUE WITH THIS MAKE AND MODEL THAT CHEVROLET IS NOT DEALING WITH. ALTHOUGH THIS DOES NOT RENDER THE VEHICLE UNSAFE IT IS OVERALL A VERY BADLY DESIGNED VEHICLE. MY MAJOR ISSUE IS THE SAFETY AND READ MANY MANY COMPLAINTS ON THIS MAKE AND MODEL. I CAN NO LONGER USE THE VEHICLE AS IT IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND A SERIOUS FINANCIAL HARDSHIP. GM IS STATING THAT IF MANUFACTURED IN CERTAIN PLANTS, TIMING CHAIN IS A PROBLEM, EVEN THOUGH IT IS THE SAME ENGINE! I HAVE HAD MORE RECALLS ON THIS VEHICLE THAN ANY OTHER VEHICLE I HAVE OWNED. I ONCE LOVED THIS VEHICLE AND THOUGHT GM WOULD TAKE CARE OF KNOWN PROBLEMS, NOW I KNOW THAT I AM WRONG. I WILL NOT BUY ANOTHER GM VEHICLE.
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON IN MY 2010 CHEVY TRAVERSE. THE DEALERSHIP INDICATED THE TIMING CHAIN HAD STRETCHED AND IF LEFT UNREPAIRED COULD LEAD TO CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF THE ENGINE. THE REPAIR COST IS $3500. THE VEHICLE ONLY HAS 67000 MILES ON IT, AND HAS ALWAYS HAD ROUTINE MAINTENANCE AND OIL CHANGES CONDUCTED. FURTHER INVESTIGATION REVEALED THAT 2007-2009 MODELS OF THE SAME ENGINE ON SIMILAR MODELS HAD THE EXACT SAME ISSUE. ADDITIONALLY, A SIMPLE GOOGLE SEARCH REVEALS MANY FORUMS THAT HAVE COMPLAINTS OF THE SAME ISSUE ON THEIR 2010 MODELS. IT APPEARS THAT THE PROBLEM WAS NOT CORRECTED IN THE 2010 MODEL YEAR, OR AT LEAST NOT IN CERTAIN RUN OF THE ENGINE. WHETHER THE SAME BAD CHAIN WAS USED IN 2010 ENGINES OR THE PROBLEM THAT WAS DISCOVERED IN THE 2007-2009 MODEL YEARS, WAS NOT DISCOVERED UNTIL AFTER THE 2010 MODELS WERE BUILT, AND THEY WERE JUST NOT INCLUDED IN THE SERVICE BULLETIN IS THE QUESTION. BECAUSE A WELL MAINTAINED VEHICLE WITH ONLY 67000 MILES TO HAVE A BAD TIMING CHAIN IS RARE, AS MANY DIFFERENT REPAIR SHOPS HAVE CONFIRMED. THOSE SAME SHOPS ALSO CONFIRMED THEY HAVE SEEN MANY OF THE TRAVERSE. ACADIA, AND ENCLAVE MODELS WITH THE SAME TIMING CHAIN ISSUE.

SEVERAL MALFUNCTION INDICATOR WARNING LIGHTS AND MESSAGES CONTINUE TO APPEAR ON THE DRIVER CONSOLE UNDER CERTAIN DRIVING CONDITIONS. THEY WARN "SERVICE STABILITRAK" ; "SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL" ; AND, "ENGINE POWER IS REDUCED" THESE MALFUNCTION ALERT ARE ACCOMPANIED BY A SEVERE DECELERATION OF THE VEHICLE AND NO RESPONSE OR VERY MODEST RESPONSE WHEN THE ACCELERATOR IS DEPRESSED. THIS ISSUE HAS PRESENTED ITSELF FOUR (4) SEPARATE TIMES IN 2016 AND 2017 WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN ON HIGHWAYS (3 TIMES AT SPEEDS OF 60 MPH) AND ALWAYS WHEN THE TEMPERATURE HAS BEEN NEAR OR BELOW FREEZING (32 DEGREES). AS STATED, THIS REOCCURRING ISSUE IS BEING EXPERIENCED AT HIGH SPEEDS ON BUSY HIGHWAYS AND THE CAR WILL QUICKLY THROTTLE DOWN TO SPEEDS OF 30-40 MPH -- WHICH IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION IN A HIGHWAY ENVIRONMENT (LIKE THE 495 BELTWAY IN WASHINGTON, DC). I CHANGE MY OIL WELL BEFORE THE METER IN THE CAR TELLS ME TO, USUALLY BEFORE 5000 MILES. DEALER SAID THE TIMING CHAINS STRETCHED DUE TO EXCESSIVELY DIRTY OIL, BUT AS STATED EARLIER, I ALWAYS CHANGED THE OIL BEFORE THE METER SAID TO CHANGE THE OIL. DEALER REPLACED ALL TENSIONERS AND CHAINS AND RESEALED THE FRONT COVER AND REFILLED FLUIDS. GM COVERED 45% OF COST EVEN THOUGH VEHICLE WAS BEYOND WARRANTY PERIOD. FOR A JOB THAT USUALLY WOULD COST ABOUT $2300, I PAID $1336. I'VE READ THAT OTHERS HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM WITH THE 3.6L V6 ON THE EARLY MODEL TRAVERSES AND OTHER GMS WITH THE SAME ENGINE. I BELIEVE THAT THE REASON THAT I GOT UP TO 92,000 MILES IS BECAUSE I CHANGE MY OIL SO REGULARLY. THERE WERE SOME OWNERS THAT HAD TO HAVE THESE ITEMS REPLACED AT AROUND 60,000MI. I HAVE REACHED OUT TO GM AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO TO HELP ALLEVIATE THIS COST, NOR ARE THEY IN A POSITION TO ISSUE A RECALL. THEY ALSO INFORMED ME THAT WE MISSED THE 'WARRANTY PERIOD' BY A YEAR AND A HALF AND THAT THERE ARE NO 'SPECIAL BULLETINS' RELATED TO MY VEHICLE. I ASKED IF THEY HAD AN INCREASE IN OTHER CALLS ABOUT THIS SAME ISSUE AND THEY DENIED ANY KNOWING OF THIS. MY DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT THEY ARE SEEING SUCH AN INCREASE IN THIS ISSUE THAT THEY KEEP AN INVENTORY OF PARTS ON HAND AND THEY PERFORM AT LEAST 3 TIMING CHAIN REPAIRS A WEEK. I AM FILING THIS FORMAL COMPLAINT WITH THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION BECAUSE THIS IS AN IMPORTANT ISSUE AS MY CAR HAS STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF ONCOMING HIGHWAY TRAFFIC AND I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED. I TOOK THE TRAVERSE TO ORR CHEVROLET WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH SLACK IN THE TIMING CHAIN. I CONTACTED GM AND THEY ADVISED THAT THEY WOULDN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT SINCE IT WAS A 2010 AND OUT OF THE 5 YEAR POWER TRAIN WARRANTY. DESPITE THE FACT THEY HAD EXTENDED THE WARRANTY ON THE 2009 MODELS BECAUSE THEY HAD THE SAME ISSUE. THIS IS A KNOWN DEFECT ON THE TRAVERSE AND GM SHOULD RECALL AND COVER REPAIRS. AS IT STANDS, I AM ABOUT TO PAY $2300.00 TO REPAIR WHAT IS A KNOWN DEFECT. GM MADE NO SIGNIFICANT DESIGN CHANGES TO PREVENT THIS DEFECT FROM CAUSING THE CHAIN TO GAIN SLACK AND CAUSE ENGINE ISSUES TO DEVELOP. THE VEHICLE WAS MOVING AT 35 MPH WHEN IT INITIALLY CAME ON BUT CAME BACK ON AFTER BEING RESET WHILE SITTING IN THE LOT OF AUTOZONE. THE TRAVERSE SHOULD NOT HAVE SUCH A FAILURE IN ONLY 72,000 MILES, THERE IS A DEFECT AND SHOULD BE RECALLED IN MODELS LATER THAN 2009. THEY STATED THE ENGINE HAD TO BE REPLACED. THEY CLAIMED TO CONTACT GM AND GM SAID THEY WERE AWARE OF THE ISSUE BUT IT WAS NOT CONSIDERED A RECALL. GM OFFERED TO PAY FOR $8,000 OF THE $10,000 TOTAL ENGINE REPLACEMENT. I WAS ONLY OFFERED A 12,000 MILE WARRANTY FOR THE NEW ENGINE. NOW WITH 50,000 MILES ON THE NEW ENGINE THE TIMING CHAIN HAS GONE OUT ONCE AGAIN. I DO NOT BELIEVE THE ISSUE WITH TIMING CHAINS WAS RESOLVED IN 2010 WITH THE NEW ECM; THIS ISSUE CONTINUES AS NOTED AND SEEN WITH SEVERAL COMPLAINTS ON THIS SITE.

ON AUGUST 6TH 2015, WHILE DRIVING MY CAR 55MPH, THE ENGINE SEIZED CAUSING LOSS OF POWER STEERING AND POWER BREAKS. AS YOU CAN IMAGINE, THIS PUT MY FAMILY IN A DANGEROUS SITUATION. OUR LICENSED MECHANIC TOLD US THE REASON THE ENGINE SEIZED IS A 'SPUN ROD BARRING.' I CALLED GENERAL MOTORS WHILE THE CAR WAS BEING REPAIRED TO DISCUSS THE PROBLEM. THEY WERE QUITE RUDE AND REFUSED TO DISCUSS THE ISSUE BECAUSE I DID NOT TAKE MY CAR TO A CERTIFIED GM REPAIR SHOP. THEREFORE, I DECIDED TO SEND GM A LETTER EXPLAINING THE SITUATION. ATTACHED IS A COPY OF THE LETTER, MAINTENANCE RECORDS, AND PHOTOS OF THE SPUN ROD BARRING I SENT TO GM. GM CUSTOMER SERVICE CALLED ME ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS AND VERBALLY TOLD ME THAT THEY WOULD NOT REIMBURSE ME OR EVEN LOOK INTO THE ISSUE BECAUSE 'I DID NOT TAKE MY CAR TO A CERTIFIED GM REPAIR SHOP FOR THE REPAIR.' I ASKED CUSTOMER SERVICE MULTIPLE TIMES TO SEND ME THIS INFORMATION IN WRITING AND THEY REFUSED. MY VEHICLE IS 1 YEAR OUT OF WARRANTY WITH ONLY 63,000 MILES ON IT. MY REPAIRS ARE TO BE AN ESTIMATED $4,000 - $6,300 BUT AM BEING OFFERED A 50/50 SPLIT THAT I FEEL IS STILL UNACCEPTABLE ON A VEHICLE WITH ONLY 63,000 MILES.

I HAVE READ ONLINE THAT TIMING CHAIN PROBLEMS ON HAVE OCCURRED MORE FREQUENTLY ON 2007-2010 CHEVY TRAVERSE, SATURN OUTLOOK, GMC ACADIA, AND BUICK ENCLAVE. ALL OF THESE SUV'S HAVE THE 3.6 LITER V6 ENGINE WITH DUAL OVERHEAD CAMS. WHAT IS HAPPENING ON THESE VEHICLES IS THAT THE TIMING CHAINS ARE STRETCHING WHICH LEADS TO CORRELATION ERRORS WITH THE CAM SENSORS AND ACTUATORS. AFTER 2010, GENERAL MOTORS HAS SEEMED TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM WITH UPDATED CHAINS AND ECM CALIBRATIONS.

IT HAS BEEN IN AND OUT OF THE SERVICE CENTER, DIAGNOSED WITH 4 OR 5 DIFFERENT ISSUES, REPAIRED 2 OR 3 COMPONENTS ALL WITH THE SAME OUTCOME: THE ENGINE POWER REDUCED ISSUE COMES BACK. THE DEALER TELLS ME IT'S A "NEW ISSUE" EVERY TIME SO AT THIS POINT I HAVE NO FAITH IN THEIR "FIXES", I FEEL THAT WHEN MY WIFE, KIDS, OR ME ARE IN THE CAR I WILL EVENTUALLY BE IN A HORRIFIC ACCIDENT WHERE WE ALL DIE AND HOPE THAT AT LEAST THIS MESSAGE WILL COME OUT THEN. GM HAS BEEN SORT OF HELPFUL BUT FROM MY RESEARCH/DEALINGS WITH THIS ISSUE (30+ HOURS), IT SEEMS LIKE SOMETHING THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN RECALLED ON SEVERAL DIFFERENT MODEL GM AUTOMOBILES. THIS IS SPECIFIC FOR THE TIMING CHAIN WHICH IS DIRECTLY AFFECTING THE CAM AND CRANK POSITIONING (CREATING SLUGGISH PERFORMANCE AND POOR FUEL ECONOMY) APPARENTLY THERE WAS A RECALL AND WARRANTY EXTENSION FOR 08-09 CHEVY TRAVERSES HOWEVER THAT HAS NOT TRANSFERRED OVER TO MY PARTICULAR MODEL YEAR, WHICH WAS BUILT IN 09 BUT SOLD AS AN 2010. OWNER OF GOODYEAR STORE ALSO INFORMED US THAT PRIOR TO OUR CAR COMING IN, 3 CARS OF THE SAME MAKE, MODEL, AND YEAR CAME IN THIS PAST YEAR FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. THEY ADVISED ALL OF THE OTHER 2010 CHEVY TRAVERSE OWNERS TO GO BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP. BROUGHT IN THE CAR TO DEALERSHIP. UPON STARTING UP MY CAR, THE ENTIRE SERVICE AREA STARTED TO SMELL OF GASOLINE. CAR WAS HOOKED UP TO THE COMPUTER AND I WAS THEN TOLD THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY $2200 TO FIX THE "MULTIPLE PROBLEMS". THE 5 OUT OF 6 FUEL INJECTORS WERE MISFIRING. IMMEDIATELY I WAS AT A LOSS OF ENGINE POWER AND WAS SUDDENLY REDUCED TO 15MPH NEARLY BEING REAR-ENDED. I HAD TO VEAR OFF THE ROAD, SHUT THE VEHICLE DOWN, AND THEN RESTART IT ONLY TO MAKE IT ANOTHER MILE UP THE ROAD BEFORE THE SYMPTOMS OCCURRED AGAIN. I WAS FORCED TO REPEAT THESE STEPS 5 MORE TIMES BEFORE MAKING IT TO MY DESTINATION. UPON INVESTIGATION OF THIS MECHANICAL ISSUE I'VE LEARNED OF HUNDREDS OF OTHER CONSUMERS EXPERIENCING THE SAME EXACT SYMPTOMS WITH NOT ONE PROVIDING A REPAIR SOLUTION. MANY HAVE PAID UPWARDS OF $500-$1000 IN REPAIR COSTS AND ARE STILL EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEMS. I HAVE DRIVEN MY VEHICLE TWICE SINCE THE FIRST OCCURRENCE AND EACH TIME EXPERIENCE THE SAME SYMPTOMS. AM I TO PAY FOR DEALER REPAIR WHEN IT SEEMS THERE IS NO PROPER SOLUTION? THE POWER STEERING GEAR WAS REPLACED AT 9500 MILES, AT 35,000 MILES, AND NOW IT IS OUT AGAIN AT 48,000 MILES. I HAVE A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT THAT WON'T GO OFF, NOW THEY ARE TELLING ME MY TIMING CHAIN NEEDS REPLACED BASED ON THE CODES DETECTED FROM THE COMPUTER. MY 2010 TRAVERSE EXPERIENCED A SEVERE SAFETY ISSUE THIS MORNING. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE TRACTION CONTROL WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE ENGINE SPEED WAS IMMEDIATELY REDUCED TO APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH. THIS OCCURRED WITHOUT WARNING AND IN HEAVY FREEWAY TRAFFIC NEARLY CAUSING MY VEHICLE TO BE REAR ENDED BY SEVERAL OTHER CARS. I TURNED ON MY HAZARD SIGNAL AND MANAGED TO REACH THE ROAD SHOULDER AFTER TRAFFIC HAD CLEARED. AFTER STOPPING FOR 10 MINUTES I RESTARTED THE VEHICLE IN AN ATTEMPT TO DRIVE TO THE CLOSEST DEALER FOR SERVICE. AFTER COVERING ABOUT 6 MILES THE SAME WARNING LIGHTS APPEARED AND THE VEHICLE SPEED WAS REDUCED AGAIN, BUT I MANAGE TO REACH THE DEALERSHIP. AT THE CHEVROLET DEALER THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY HAD FAILED & NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT STATED THAT THIS WAS NOT A WARRANTY ITEM. I PAID THE SIGNIFICANT COST FOR THE REPAIR MYSELF AND CONTACTED BOTH GM & CHEVROLET DIVISION TO NOTIFY THEM OF THE FAILURE AND ASK FOR REIMBURSEMENT FOR WHAT IS CLEARLY A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. FURTHER RESEARCH INDICATES THAT A SIGNIFICANT NUMBER OF TRAVERSE OWNERS HAVE REPORTED THE SAME PROBLEM AND SERVICE REPS AT BOTH CHEVROLET & GM SAID THEY WERE FAMILIAR WITH THE ISSUE BUT NO RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED FROM THEM. JULY 2014 MY TRAVERSE HAD AROUND 67,000 MILES ON IT, AND IT HAD STARTED OVERHEATING. WE TOOK IT TO A CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP AND HAD THE ISSUE TAKEN CARE OF. WE HAD ALSO ASKED THEM TO ADDRESS THE RECALLS THAT WE HAD RECEIVED NOTICE ON.ONE ISSUE WAS FIXED, AND ON THE INVOICE THEY HAD MADE NOTE THAT THEY WOULD CONTACT US WHEN THE OTHER RECALL PARTS WERE IN. FOR 2 MONTHS, NO PHONE CALL FROM THEM.WE HAD RECEIVED NO CALL THAT THE PARTS WERE IN.THEN THE END OF SEPTEMBER WHILE DRIVING BACK FROM THE COAST, I HEARD A NOISE THAT SOUNDED LIKE A CAP BEING CLICKED BY A TEEN. BLAMED MY NIECE, BUT AFTER READING THE LEGAL DOCUMENTS ON THE LAWSUIT, IT HAD TO HAVE BEEN THE SAME THING. THE NEXT ISSUE THAT WOULD BE WHAT I CONSIDER THE LAST STRAW WITH THIS VEHICLE.IN THE NEXT DAY OR SO, IT BECAME HARD TO TURN AT LOW SPEEDS.WE CHECKED STEERING FLUID, AND IT WAS LOW BUT NO WHERE NEAR EMPTY.WE ADDED ADDITIONAL FLUID AND THOUGHT THAT WAS THE FIX.THE STEERING ISSUE CONTINUED TO WORSEN.DRIVING INTO WORK I NEEDED TO TURN OFF THE MAIN HWY ONTO A ST., DURING THE MORNING RUSH HOUR.I WAS BARELY ABLE TO MAKE THE TURN. IT TOOK ALL I COULD DO TO TURN. WAS VERY SCARY, AND I WAS THANKFUL THAT OUR CHILDREN WERE NOT IN THE CAR.WHEN I ARRIVED TO WORK, I WAS UNABLE TO PULL INTO THE PARKING LOT OF THE OFFICE. I ENDED UP HAVING TO PARK ON THE ST DUE TO BEING UNABLE TO EFFECTIVELY TURN.WE TOOK THE TRAVERSE TO A DIFFERENT CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP TO FIND OUT THAT THE PUMP, RACK AND PINION, STRUT AND CV BOOT WERE FAILING. FOUND THIS TO BE VERY ODD, MOST OFTEN A CV BOOT WEARS OUT ON A VEHICLE WITH HIGHER MILES THAN THE 70,000MILES.COST TO REPAIR IS AT $2500.00, DUE TO CHEVROLET FOR THE NEGLECT. NOW WE ARE LOOKING FOR A DIFFERENT VEHICLE AND THEY ONLY WANT TO OFFER 14,000 TRADE IN?A $40,000 VEHICLE WORTH NEAR 1/4 OF WHAT WE HAVE PAID FOR IT IN ONLY 4 YEARS.IT IS NOW WORTH NOTHING, BUT I'M UPSIDE DOWN ON AN LOAN! *TR

MY CAR ENGINE CONTINUES TO RUN WHILE THE KEY IS OUT OF THE IGNITION. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES, I HAVE TO PUT THE KEY IN AND TRY TURNING THE IGNITION OFF SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE THE ENGINE WILL ACTUALLY SHUT DOWN, AFTER EACH INCIDENT THIS DRAINS MY BATTERY AND THEN MY CAR REQUIRES TO BE JUMPED IT ALSO HAS TAKES SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO GET THE CAR RUNNING AGAIN AND SOMETIMES AFTER THIS HAPPENS IT PUTS MY CAR IN "LIMP" MODE MEANING THE CAR WILL NOT SHIFT OUT OF SECOND GEAR WHILE DRIVING IT. I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE CHEVY DEALER (BOB STEELE IN COCOA FL) EXPLAINED TO THEM THE ISSUES AND TOLD THEM I HAVE GOOGLED THE ISSUES AS WELL AND THAT LOTS OF PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE ENGINE STILL RUNNING WHILE THE KEY IS IN THEIR HAND AND CHEVY STATED THEY NEVER HEARD OF THIS BEFORE. THE DEALER CALLED AND STATED THAT IT WOULD COST ME $200.00 TO REPLACE MY IGNITION IN MY CAR WHICH I DID AND THAT WOULD FIX THE ENGINE RUNNING ISSUE AND WOULD FIX THE "LIMP" MODE ISSUE. THE REPAIR LASTED A WEEK AND THEN I STOPPED TO GET GAS AND THE CAR WOULD NOT SHUT OFF AGAIN AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS OF TURNING THE KEY TO THE OFF POSITION IT FINALLY SHUT DOWN, AFTER GETTING GAS IT TOOK SEVERAL ATTEMPTS FOR THE CAR TO TURN BACK ON ( AT THIS TIME IT DID NOT GO INTO "LIMP" MODE) I TOOK THE CAR DIRECTLY BACK TO THE DEALER WHO HAS HAD THE CAR FOR FOUR DAYS NOW. I JUST RECIEVED A CALL FROM THE CHEVY DEALER STATING IT WOULD NOW COST ME $1200.00 TO REPAIR THE FUSE BOX AND WIRING THAT HAS SOME HOW BECOME WET IN MY GLOVE COMPARTMENT.. AGAIN I STATED THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY PERSON HAVING THIS PROBLEM AND THAT OTHER PEOPLE HAVE ALSO BEEN TOLD THAT THEY HAVE WATER IN THEIR FUSE BOX (WHICH I ASSUME SHOULD OF BEEN SEALED PROPERLY TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING)SO I AM NOW DRIVING A CAR THAT REFUSES TO SHUT OFF OR CAN PUT ITSELF INTO "LIMP" MODE AFFECTING THE DRIVING ABILITY OF THE CAR. *TR

TOLD ME IT WAS THROTTLE BODY NEEDED REPLACING , AND SPARKPLUGS AND INJECTORS NEEDS CHANGED. TOTAL WAS GOING TO BE ABOUT $1200, I DECLINED BECAUSE I WAS TOLD I HAD "BUMPER TO BUMPER" EXTENDED WARRANTY. COME TO FIND OUT NONE OF THE REPAIRS WERE COVERED BY THIS "BUMPER TO BUMPER" WARRANTY. THIS IS DEFINITELY A PROBLEM THAT IS FOUND ON A LOT OF CHEVY VEHICLES AND NEEDS TO BE TAKEN CARE OF. TOOK TO DEALER AND BEHOLD THEY TOLD ME IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY THE SAME THAT OTHERS ONLINE WERE TOLD. AND YES JUST AS OTHERS HAVE MENTIONED ONLINE, ITS NOT COVERED UNDER THE POWER TRAIN WARRANTY ALTHOUGH IT REDUCES YOUR ENGINE POWER. MANY HAVE HAD THE THROTTLE BODY REPLACED ONLY TO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM HAPPEN AGAIN A FEW MONTHS LATER. THIS IS HAPPENING TO NUMEROUS AMOUNTS OF PEOPLE THAT HAVE GM CARS, SUV'S, AND TRUCKS. THIS CAN NOT BE A COINCIDENCE THAT THIS MANY PEOPLE HAVE HAD THE SAME SCENARIO AND PROBLEM HAPPEN TO THEM. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION TO BE ON AN EXPRESSWAY AND HAVE YOUR SPEED BE REDUCE IMMEDIATELY. I HAD MY KIDS IN THE CAR AND EVEN THEY WERE SCARED OF WHAT OCCURRED. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS WHEN YOU HAVE TRUCKS AND SEMI'S DRIVING BEHIND YOU, THEY CAN NOT STOP THAT FAST. DOES SOMEONE HAVE TO DIE IN AN ACCIDENT BEFORE THERE IS A RECALL ON THIS MATTER?? *TR

DURING THAT ANALYSIS, THE POWER STEERING PUMP AND RACK ASSEMBLY WAS FOUND TO BE LOW ON OIL AND WITH METAL SHAVINGS IN THE PINION RACK WAS NEAR FAILURE. THE FAILURE MODE ON THIS MODEL AND ALL TRAVERSES, ENCLAVES, AND ACADIAS IS THE ULTIMATELY STEERING LOCK AND A PROBABLY CRASH. THIS IS A DEFINITE RECALL ITEM THAT SHOULD BE FINALLY DETERMINED BY NHTSA FOR ALL YEARS OF THIS VEHICLE. THE REPAIR ESTIMATE IS OVER $2600 AS THE ENTIRE FRONT ENGINE ASSEMBLY HAS TO BE REMOVED. OTHER OWNER EXPERIENCES INDICATE THAT THIS REPAIR IS WIDESPREAD IN THESE GM MODELS AND IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. *TR

FOR MONTHS AND MONTHS I HEARD A NOISE FROM THE STEERING SECTION...LIKE IT NEEDED OIL. WE CHECKED THE FLUID AND NOTICED IT WAS LOW. WE HAVE TO REPEAT THE FLUID EVERY MONTH OR SO. I WAS DRIVING AND ALL OF A SUDDEN MY STEERING BECAME STUCK. NOW I NEED $1000+ REPAIRS FOR A VEHICLE THAT IS ONLY 3 YEARS OLD W/ 40,000 MILES. THIS IS UNFAIR. *TR

WATER PUMP REPLACED IN MARCH 2013, COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. HVAC ACTUATOR ALSO REPLACED AT THIS TIME. 2000 MILE TRIP MADE AFTER REPAIR AND UPON RETURN ENGINE SUFFERED CATASTROPHIC FAILURE ON APRIL 2, 2013. DIAGNOSIS CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF THE 3RD CYLINDER. CAUSE UNKNOWN. OCCURRED DURING MORNING COMMUTE ON HEAVILY TRAFFICKED HIGHWAY. CHILDREN WERE IN CAR WHEN IT STALLED. HAD TO BE PUSHED FROM CENTER LANE OF TRAFFIC AND THEN TOWED TO DEALER. ONE WEEK AFTER CAR RETURNED FROM ENGINE REPLACEMENT, LEAK APPEARED IN HVAC. LEAK REPAIRED AND CAR RETRIEVED APRIL 29, 2013. A WEEK TO THE DAY OF THE CAR BEING REPAIRED, SERVICE STABILITRAK SYSTEM LIGHT CAME ON. POWER STEERING SEEMED NON EXISTENT AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT APPEARED. THIS PROBLEM REQUIRED REPLACEMENT OF INTERNAL MODE SWITCH, REPROGRAMMING OF ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE AND TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE. CAR RETRIEVED MAY 7, 2013. CAR RETURNED BUT STEERING WHEEL STILL DIFFICULT TO TURN AND SQUEAKS WHEN IN USE. PROBLEM SEEMS TO WORSEN WITH INCREASING TEMPERATURES. ADDITIONALLY, RADIO WILL NOT ALWAYS SHUT OFF AFTER DRIVER DOOR OPENED. SERVICE STATED THEY COULD NOT REPRODUCE PROBLEM BUT HAPPENS FREQUENTLY TO DRIVER. 4 SERIOUS SERVICE REQUIREMENTS IN TWO MONTHS FOR A 2.5 YEAR OLD CAR WITH UNDER 60K MILES. CHEVROLET CERTAINLY DOESN'T MAKE A VEHICLE TO LAST AND THIS VEHICLE IS CERTAINLY NOT A CAR TO CALL SAFE OR RELIABLE. *TR

I WAS DRIVING THROUGH TOWN BACK IN FEBRUARY AND MY "SERVICE STABILITETRAK" "TRACTION CONTROL OFF" AND "REDUCED ENGINE POWER" LIGHTS COME ONE. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP AND PAID $99 TO FIND OUT WHAT WAS WRONG. THEY SAID I NEEDED TO REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY. THE LIGHTS ALL WENT OFF ON MY WAY HOME SO I THOUGHT IT MIGHT BE A FLUKE THING. WELL IT JUST HAPPENED AGAIN 3 MONTHS LATER. I WAS GOING UP A HILL THAT HAS A IMMEDIATE CURVE AFTER IT (WE LIVE IN THE MOUNTAINS) AND ALMOST GOT REAR ENDED BECAUSE THE CAR WENT FROM 55 TO 25 AS WE WERE GOING UP THE HILL AND IT WOULDN'T PICK SPEED BACK UP, THE RPM'S WOULD JUST SHOOT UP. THIS PART IS FAULTY PART ON MANY CHEVROLET TRAVERSE'S AND MANY OTHER GM MODEL'S. ON EDMUNDS.COM THERE ARE TONS OF PEOPLE COMPLAINING ABOUT THEIR THROTTLE BODY'S BEING BAD AND BEING DANGEROUS. MY FOUR CHILDREN ALL UNDER THE AGE OF 5 COULD HAVE BEEN VERY BADLY INJURED OR KILLED IF THAT TRUCK BEHIND US DIDN'T HAVE GOOD BRAKES. WE WERE FORTUNATE THAT WE HAD A CLOSE CALL. I CONTACTED GM AND THEY REFERRED ME TO A DISTRICT SPECIALIST, BUT THAT PERSON WAS SUPPOSE TO CALL ME BACK TODAY BETWEEN 1-3 AND NOW IT'S 6:43 AND THEY LEAVE AT 6:45, SO I'M SURE I WON'T HEAR FROM HER TODAY. I CALLED TO COMPLAIN THAT SHE DIDN'T CALL ME DURING THE TIME SHE WAS SUPPOSE TO CALL, SO NOW SHE HAS ANOTHER 24 HOURS TO CALL ME AND I DOUBT THAT WILL HAPPEN EITHER. AFTER THIS EXPERIENCE I DON'T THINK I'M EVER GOING TO BUY ANOTHER GM VEHICLE AGAIN, THEY'RE NOT ISSUING RECALLS ON THE PARTS THAT NEED TO BE AND IT'S PUTTING PEOPLE'S LIVES AT RISK. *TR

RECEIVED A LETTER FROM GM THAT MY CAR MIGHT HAVE A LEAKING WATER PUMP SEAL. (IT DOES BECAUSE I HAVE HAD TO ADD COOLANT) . THE LETTER STATES THAT FOR THE NEXT 2 YEARS CHEVY WILL ADD COOLANT AS NEEDED. WHY NOT RECALL THE CAR AND REPLACE THE WATER PUMP. IT IS NOT GOING TO MAGICALLY STOP LEAKING IN 2 YEARS. *TR

VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN BACK HOME AFTER A 20 MIN JOURNEY. SWITCHED VEHICLE OFF, REMOVED KEYS, I CAME BACK TO REMOVE LAST BAG FROM VEHICLE - WHITE SMOKE WAS COMING FROM UNDER HOOD. TRIED TO PUT OUT WITH A SMALL FIRE EXTINGUISHER. FLAMES NOW COMING FROM HOOD AND OUT OF FRONT GRILLE. CALLED 911. WITHIN 20 MINS CAR WAS A TOTAL LOSS, WITH DAMAGE TO ADJACENT HOME. INFORMED INSURER AND GM CUSTOMER CARE. GM CLAIMS DEPT HAVE INVESTIGATED AND NO GM FAULT DETERMINED. 18 MONTH OLD VEHICLE MUST NOT CATCH FIRE BY ITSELF, MORE ACTION REQUIRED.
