This vehicle is notorious for multiple electrical failures. The alternator fried the battery fried, both of which were replaced. This vehicle still wouldn't start. The wiring harness to the PCM is notorious for having shorts. The pcm itself is notorious for going out really early. This vehicle is almost undrivable and it dies while you're in the middle of driving where you can't stop. I do not know how this vehicle has been kept on the market without being recalled. I do not know how more people haven't been in accidents because of it. And even worse, it's notorious for the airbags messing up. I think I would be more understanding if it weren't for the fact that this vehicle has been well maintained. It has regular maintenance. It's never overdue for an oil change or a fluid top up. I have children that ride in this vehicle and now I have to worry about their safety.

The contact owns a 2011 Chevrolet Traverse. The contact stated that after turning off the vehicle, the engine was still running independently. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that water was entering the hood of the vehicle causing the vehicle to have electrical issues and the fuse box needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 132,000.

AS DESCRIBED BY HUNDREDS, IF NOT THOUSANDS, OF OTHER OWNERS...OBDII CODES P0008 AND P0017, IN CONJUNCTION WITH "SERVICE STABILITRACK, AWD DISABLED, TRACTION CONTROL OFF". WE HAVE REPLACED MULTIPLE SENSORS, REPLACED THROTTLE BODY(AND SENSOR), REPLACED DRIVER FRONT WHEEL HUB ASSEMBLY (MAGNET THAT HAS TO DO WITH SENSOR CAME OFF). THE ABOVE TWO CODES PERSIST. PURCHASED USED VEHICLE WITH 118XXX MILES AND WITHIN A YEAR THESE CODES APPEARED. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER, WHO INSISTED IT WAS TIMING CHAIN, WITH ESTIMATE OF $2300. HOWEVER, SECOND AND THIRD OPINIONS DISAGREED...SUGGESTING SENSOR ISSUES, THROTTLE BODY ISSUES, ETC. WHY HAS THE TIMING CHAIN OR TENSIONER NOT BEEN RECALLED, IF THIS IS THE ISSUE? FORTUNATELY, OUR VEHICLE DOES NOT GO INTO LIMP MODE...HOWEVER, WE'VE BEEN TOLD THIS COULD HAPPEN IN THE FUTURE. WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE IT IF THE NHTSA WOULD DO A DEEPER DIVE AND GENERATE A RECALL. GOING TO ADDRESS CAMSHAFT BANK SENSORS NEXT BEFORE POSSIBLY REPLACING TIMING CHAIN AND/OR TENSIONER. ADDITIONALLY, PROBLEMS WITH MOISTURE ISSUE OF UNKNOWN LOCATION THAT CAUSES THE STEREO SPEAKERS TO NOT WORK. ON SUNNY, WARM DAYS, STEREO SPEAKERS WORK FINE...ANY MOISTURE, NO SPEAKERS.

SO FAR I HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT ISSUES WITH MY SUV, BOUGHT A 2009 FOR 6,000 AND HAD TO PT 7,200 IN IT TO GET IT RUNNING RIGHT. I TRADED IT IN AT THE DEALERSHIP IT WAS BEING DIAGNOSED AT THANKFULLY. NOW I HAVE A 2011 AND STARTING TO HAVE MANY ISSUES UNFORTUNATELY. FIRST IT STARTED 3700 MILES AFTER I GOT MY 2011 BY LEAVING ME WITH NO POWER STEERING WHILE TRYING TO MAKE A TURN AND ALMOST WRECKED 3 TIMES GOING TO THE HOSPITAL. I WAS ABLE TO PUT POWER STEERING FLUID IN AND GOT MY POWER STEERING BACK BUT IMMEDIATELY TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER. THEY SAID IF I CAME IN AT 3500 MILES THEY WOULD HAVE REPLACED THE PUMP AND WHOLE RACK UNDER WARRENTY, BUT THEY DIDNT. SO I GOTTA TOP IT OFF EVERY FEW MONTHS, NO BIG DEAL. SUSPENSION HAS BEEN REPLACED TWICE, ROUGH IDLE, TUNED UP 3 TIMES IN 42,373 MILES. A/C ONLY BLOWS COLD ON DRIVER SIDE NOW, IT MAKES A DIFFERENT NOISE EVERY DAY AND THE DEALERSHIP SAYS I NEED TO HAVE THE ENGINE DROPPED AND TIMING CHAIN REPLACED. I CANT DROP 2400 BUCKS ON SOMETHING THAT DOESNT FIX THE PROBLEM! WAY TOO MANY NEGATIVE OUTCOMES THAT I'VE READ ON THE TIMING CHAIN ISSUE. PEOPLE THAT HAVE HAD THE ENGINE REPLACED HAD BETTER LUCK THAN A REBUILD. THIS IS ABSURD BECAUSE IT'S A GREAT FAMILY VEHICLE BUT WITH THESE ISSUES I REALLY DONT WANT TO BUY AMERICAN MADE CARS ANYMORE.

HE COMMENTED SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE ENGINEERING OF THE ENGINE SPECIFIC TO OIL. HE IS CONCERN THAT CHANGING THE ENGINE MAY RESULT IN THE SAME SITUATION GIVEN THE MOTOR'S DESIGN.

LESS THEN A YEAR AGO THE BATTERY GAUGE STARTED DIPPING BELOW 14V TO 12V PERIODICALLY WHILE DRIVING. WHEN GETTING OFF THE HIGHWAY ONE DAY(BATTER GAGUE DID NOT DIP) AND COMING TO A LIGHT ON A 2 LANE SMALLER MAJOR ROAD THE LIGHTS ALL CAME ON CHECK ENGINE, STABILITRAK, BATTERY, ETC AND THE CAR SHUT DOWN. FORTUNATELY, MY HUSBAND WAS ABLE TO CRUISE THROUGH THE LIGHT AND SOMEHOW EVERYONE WAS OUT OF HIS WAY SO HE COULD COME TO A STOP O THE SIDE OF A ROAD THAT THE SPEED LIMIT IS 50 ON. THE WINDOWS WERE OPEN COULDN'T DO ANYTHING. TOW CAME OUT AND HIS JUMPERS WERE ZAPPED. TRIED AGAIN AND WAS ABLE TO GET INTO N SO COULD BE FLAT-BEDDED TO THE MECHANIC. THE ALTERNATOR WAS FRIED, AND FRIED BATTERY AND MESSED UP AC. REPLACED ALT AND BATTERY AND OTHER PARTS THAT WERE FRIED. LESS THAN 6 MONTHS LATER BATTERY STARTED DIPPING REALLY LOW AND SO WE HAD THE CAR CHECKED SEVERAL TIMES AND NOTHING SEEMED WRONG. NOW WE'RE 10 MONTHS IN AND HAD TO REPLACE ALT. AGAIN AND WITHIN A WEEK (TODAY) BATTERY STARTED DIPPING TO 12V AGAIN. THIS IS WHILE DRIVING AND HAPPENS ABOUT 20 MINUTES OR SO INTO DRIVE. I DRIVE ON MAJOR HIGHWAYS AND HAVE MY CHILDREN IN THE CAR THE MAJORITY OF THE TIME. THIS IS DANGEROUS AND SEEMS TO BE A RECURRENT PROBLEM ON TONS OF THESE CARS. IF THE CAR DIES AGAIN, THANKFULLY THE STARS ALIGNED AND MY HUSBAND WAS ABLE TO AT LEAST PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, WE MAY NOT BE SO LUCKY. OF COURSE, THE CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY NOW TOO SO HOW IS IT THAT ALL THESE PEOPLE, INCLUDING US, WILL BE ASKED TO SHELL OUT TONS OF MONEY TO FIX A COMMON ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE TAKEN CARE OF SO PEOPLE DON'T DIE! THIS IS NOT SIMPLY A MAINTENANCE ISSUE.

MY ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON INTERMITTENTLY ANF WHEN I HAVE IT TESTED IT JUST SAYS O2 SENSORS. THE LIGHT WILL STAY ON FOR 1-2 DAYS AND THEN GO OUT AND REMAIN OFF FOR SEVERAL MONTHS AT A TIME. EVERYTHING IN THE CAR IS PLASTIC AND KEEPS POPPING OFF. I HAVE REPLACED SO MANY DOOR AND SEAT PIECES THAT THIS IS CRAZY EVEN DOWN TO REPLACING MOTOR MOUNTS. I LOVE CHEVROLET BUT THIS BY FAR HAS BEEN MY MOST AGGRAVATING AND COSTLY PURCHASE.... I USED TO GO TO MY LOCAL CHEVY DEALER FOR SERVICE BUT I NOTICED WHEN I LOG IN TO MY CHEVY/GM PROFILE THEY DON'T LOAD ANYTHING INNTHE SYSTEM FOR CHEVY TO SEE YOU ARE REALLY MAINTAINING YOUR CAR. 2ND OWNER. AT 91K MILES WHOLE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM BLEW OUT. COST $600 TO FIX. AT $111K MILES ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. WENT TO DEALERSHIP AND TIMING CHAIN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. PARKED THE VEHICLE AS DEALERSHIP SAID IT KEEPS HAPPENING FOR 2011 TRAVERSE AND THEY ARE WAITING FOR RECALL. 6 MONTHS LATER DECIDED TO TAKE CAR BACK TO DEALERSHIP TO GET FIXED QUOTED $3800. ON WAY TO DEALERSHIP (20 MINUTES AWAY) GOING 40 MILES AN HOUR CAR STARTED MAKING MACHINE GUNS NOISES AND SLOWING DOWN. PULLED INTO A NEIGHBORHOOD AND PARKED CAR. CALLED A TOW COMPANY AND HAD THEM TOW IT BACK TO THE HOUSE. LUCKILY, OUR NEIGHBOR WORKS AT A MECHANIC SHOP AND CAME OVER. HE TURNED THE CAR ON AND IT SHUT RIGHT OFF. AFTER HIS EXAMINATION HE SAID MY ENGINE HAD SEIZED AND WOULD NEED TO REPLACE IT. ALREADY HAVING TO RESET THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM NOW I NEED TO REPLACE A TIMING CHAIN AND REPLACE AN ENGINE?? SEEMS AFTER READING ALL OF THE COMPLAINTS THE 2011 TRAVERSE HAS MAJOR ISSUES AND THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED!

I HAD TO REPLACE AN ENGINE AT 30K MILES DUE TO 'METAL IN OIL". NEVER ONCE MISSED AN OIL CHANGE AND NO WARNING OF ANY ISSUE UNTIL CAR DIED IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY ROAD WHILE TRYING TO TURN RIGHT ONTO SIDE STREET.. AFTER REPLACING ENGINE HAD TO GET NEW WHEEL SENORS AS THEY WENT BAD 2 WEEKS LATER. ONE AND A HALF YEARS LATER HERE WE ARE DASH FLASHING SAYING 'SERVICE STABILITRACK, SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL, ENGIRE POWER REDUCES". CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ALSO ON. MECHANIC SAYS I WILL NEED A NEW ACCELORATOR PEDAL ALONG WITH THROTTLE BODY. THE CAR ITSELF AT THIS POINT IS UNDER 50K MILES. ALSO PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW DOES NOT GO UP OR DOWN WITH DRIVE SIDE DOOR LEVERS.

THIS IS TOWARD CHEVROLET AND ANY OTHER VEHICLE MAKERS THAT REQUIRE EXCESSIVE USE OF DEALERSHIPS FOR MINOR MAINTENANCE. I HAVE COMMUTED 40 MILES DAILY FOR 18 YEARS, I HAVE PREVIOUSLY OWNED FORD VEHICLES AND HAD NO ISSUES WITH DOING MINOR REPAIRS MYSELF. WITH MY CHEVY VEHICLE I HAVE TO TAKE IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP OR REPAIR SHOP TO CHANGE A SIMPLE HEADLIGHT BECAUSE OF THE GREEDY DESIGN OF THE VEHICLE. THEY DID THIS ON PURPOSE SO THEY COULD MAKE MORE MONEY AT THE DEALERSHIP AFTER SALES. IN THE PAST WHEN I DROVE FORDS IF MY HEADLIGHT WENT HOME I WOULD STOP A COUPLE BLOCKS FROM MY WORK AND POP ONE IN. I STOPPED ON EXIT RAMPS AND ADDED A NEW ONE MANY TIMED, KEEPING A EXTRA IN MY GLOVE BOX LIKE A PREPARED DRIVER. WITH MY TRAVERSE I HAVE GO IN AND HAVE THE TIRE TAKEN OFF AND THE WHEEL WHEEL PLASTIC OFF TO CHANGE THE HEADLIGHT. THIS IS COMPLETELY UNSAFE AND RIDICULOUS. I'VE COMPLAINED TO CHEVY WITHOUT A RESPONSE. THIS NEEDS TO CHANGE TO SAVE LIVES. IT IS VERY DANGEROUS FOR LONG COMMUTERS. IMAGINE BEING ON VACATION AND HAVING TO SPEND A DAY OF IT AT A DEALERSHIP GETTING YOUR HEADLIGHT CHANGED FOR $125.00. WE LIVE IN MN AND FREQUENTLY HAVE TO CHANGE BULBS DUE TO --60 DEGREE WIND CHILLS. IT'S IMPOSSIBLE TO KEEP UP WITH, AND SHOULD BE ILLEGAL. WHEN YOU SPEND $30K-50K ON A VEHICLE IT SHOULD BE SAFE AND EASY TO MAINTAIN SAFETY. DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED ON HAVING TO PULL OUT THE FLOORING OF THE 2ND ROW TO CHANGE A BATTERY.

'TIMING CHAIN'. RECENTLY ENGINE LIGHT APPEARS ON AND GOES OFF WHILE DRIVING MY 2011 CHEVY TRAVERSE LT 3.6L WITH ALMOST 113,000 MILES. I USED MY SCANNER AND CODES P0008 AND P0017 APPEARED. AFTER DOING MY RESEARCH I DISCOVERED THAT, 1. THE CODES ARE FOR THE ENGINE TIMING CHAIN. 2. TONS OF CUSTOMERS THAT OWN THE SAME MAKE, MODEL AND YEAR AS MINE ALONG WITH MANY DIFFERENT GM MODEL VEHICLES THAT HAVE THE 3.6 L ENGINE, ARE HAVING THE SAME CODE AND ENGINE PROBLEM. 3. GM KNOWS ABOUT THIS ISSUE SINCE THEY HAVE EXTENDED THE WARRANTY UP TO 120,000 MILES ON SOME OF THE 2011 CHEVY TRAVERSE'S AND OTHER GM MAKES AND MODELS. GM ADVISED ME THAT MY VIN IS NOT COVERED AND I SHOULD BRING MY VEHICLE TO THE CLOSEST GM DEALER TO HAVE THEM DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. FOUND TIMING IS NOT IN SYNC DUE TO FAULTY TIMING CHAINS. STATED CUSTOMER DECLINED REPAIRS AT THIS TIME. CUSTOMER WOULD NEED TO REPLACE TIMING CHAINS AND ACTUATORS. I CONTACTED GM A SECOND TIME A FEW DAYS AFTER I BROUGHT MY VEHICLE TO ADAMS CHEVROLET, THE GM EMPLOYEE STATED THAT SHE WILL NOTE EVERYTHING AND HAS MY CURRENT ADDRESS AND PHONE NUMBER ON FILE IF THEY NEED TO GET AHOLD OF ME. SHE STATED AGAIN MY VIN IS NOT COVERED AND THAT I SHOULD KEEP IN TOUCH WITH A CUSTOMER SERVICE EMPLOYEE FROM A GM DEALERSHIP AND SEE IF THEY WILL WORK WITH ME ON A PRICE AT MY EXPENSE. I HAVE HAD AN ISSUE WITH THE POWER STEERING WHILE DRIVING IN 2018 AND ADAMS CHEVROLET RECENTLY ADVISED ME THAT THERE IS AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THE POWER STEERING AS WELL BUT TIMING CHAIN IS NOT COVERED ON MY VIN. STABILITY TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM PROBLEMS. I HAVE A 2011 CHEVY TRAVERSE. PROBLEMS ERUPTED AFTER I FINISHED PAYING IT OFF. I HAD THIS CAR FOR 7 YEARS NOW AND 100K MILES NOW. FOR THE PAST YEAR THE TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM HAS FAILED MULTIPLE TIMES. AT FIRST I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND SPENT OVER $3500 TO FIX IT. A FEW MONTHS AFTER THE PROBLEM CAME BACK. THE DEALER WAS ASKING FOR ALMOST $4000 STATING THAT IT WAS SOMETHING ELSE NOT FIXED BEFORE. EVEN A MECHANIC FROM THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME TO GET RID OF IT BECAUSE LOTS OF PEOPLE WERE COMPLAINING WITH SAME ISSUES. AT FIRST THE "TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM OFF" COMES ON THE SCREEN EVERY TIME I DRIVE FOR A LONG PERIOD OF TIME. FOLLOWED BY "SERVICE STABILITY TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM". NOW AS SOON AS I TURN THE CAR ON THE SAME MESSAGES APPEAR. JUST A WEEK AGO I WAS IN THE HIGHWAY AND "POWER LOSS WARNING" CAME OUT IN THE SCREEN. I COULDN'T ACCELERATE, THANK GOD I WAS NEAR AN EXIT AND WAS ABLE TO GET OUT IN TIME BEFORE IT STOPPED COMPLETELY. TURNED OFF THE CAR AND WAITED A FEW MNTS. THIS IS THE SECOND YEAR IT HAS DONE IT AND BOTH YEARS IT HAS DONE IT IN THE COLD. LAST YEAR WE CLEANED THE WHEEL SENSORS AND IT STOPPED BUT THIS YEAR WE HAVE TRIED MULTIPLE THINGS AND NOTHING IS WORKING. AT THIS TIME, THE LIGHTS STARTED TO FLICKER, THE RPMS WERE GOING UP AND DOWN FAIRLY QUICKLY AND THE WINDOWS AND LOCKS WERE CLICKING. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE HOME (5 MILES), BUT THE PROBLEMS PERSISTED THE ENTIRE DRIVE. THE SECOND I WOULD LET ME FOOT OFF THE GAS PEDAL, THE ENGINE WOULD KILL. I TOOK IT TO THE MECHANIC AND HE SAID WHEN HE HOOKED IT UP TO THE MACHINE TO SEE WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS, THERE WAS SO MUCH WRONG HE COULDN'T ACTUALLY TELL WHAT WAS CAUSING WHAT. THE COMPUTER AND ENGINE BOTH WERE RECOMMENDED TO BE REPLACED. I LET HIM KNOW AS WELL IT HAD BECOME MORE DIFFICULT IN THE LAST FEW MONTHS TO TURN THE WHEEL WHEN GOING AT A SLOW SPEED AND VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO PARK. HE STATED IT IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THIS MAKE, MODEL AND YEAR. THE STEERING, THE COMPUTER AND THE ENGINE HE HAS SEEN MULTIPLE CUSTOMERS HAVE PROBLEMS WITH.

NOTHING WAS FOUND, ALTHOUGH THE BODYSHOP MAN WROTE UP THE WORK ORDER WRONG AS A SURGING. IT WAS A STRANGE SURGING CLICKING ON ACCELERATION, BUT SOUNDED LIKE IT WAS UNDER THE DASH. WE THEN WOULD NOTICE THE AIR WOULD WARM SIGNIFICANTLY FOR A FEW MINUTES. I ALSO TOOK IT INTO HAMILTON WHERE I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE, THEY FOUND NOTHING. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 CHEVROLET TRAVERSE. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS TURNED TO THE OFF POSITION AND THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO RUN. IN ADDITION, THE ENGINE WAS MAKING AN ABNORMAL NOISE AND DISCOVERED THAT THE BATTERY FRACTURED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT REPLACED THE BATTERY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS A LEAK BEHIND THE GLOVE DEPARTMENT THAT LEAKED ONTO THE FUSE, WHICH CAUSED A WIRE SHORTAGE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000.

THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED, I WAS DRIVING A HILLY BACK ROAD FROM SCHOOL THE SERVICE STABILITRAC AND TRACTION CONTROL WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON THEN THE ENGINE POWER IS BEING REDUCED WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CAR IMMEDIATELY SLOWED TO A CRAWL WITH VERY LITTLE STEERING CONTROL. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT ON THE SHOULDER TO MY MECHANIC AT NO MORE THAN 20 MPH AND HE SAID THAT 4 OF THE 6 COILS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. A $700 REPAIR. SECOND TIME IT HAPPENED (12/3/14) I WAS DRIVING ON I-95 DOING 65 AND ALL THE SAME LIGHTS CAME ON AGAIN BUT THIS TIME THE CAR INSTANTLY REDUCED THE SPEED AND I WAS CRAWLING AT 10MPH. I HAD SEVERAL NEAR MISSES WITH OTHER CARS AS WE WERE ALL TRAVELING AT THE POSTED SPEED IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. I STRUGGLED TO GET THE CAR TO THE SHOULDER. I STOPPED THE CAR AND RESTARTED AND EVERYTHING RESET AND I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE FOR ABOUT A MILE OR TWO AND IT RECURRED. I HAPPENED 8 TIMES BEFORE I WAS ABLE TO GET IT TO THE CHEVY DEALER. THE DEALER TOOK 3 DAYS TO TRY AND DIAGNOSE IT AND SAID IT WAS PROBABLY THE THROTTLE CONTROL. THEY REPLACED IT $493! AND TOLD ME THEY DID NOT KNOW IF IT WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM - IT MAY LAST 1,000 MILES OR 20,000 MILES. WHILE BACKING UP AT A VERY LOW SPEED THE VEHICLE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP, I THEN REALIZED THE ENGINE HAD SHUT OFF. I NOTED THE KEY WAS STILL IN THE ON POSITION AND THE BACK UP CAMERA WAS STILL ON. RESTARTED VEHICLE AND NO FURTHER PROBLEMS WERE NOTICED. WHEN ATTEMPTING TO DUPLICATE THIS ISSUE THE ONLY TIME I COULD GET THE STEERING WHEEL TO LOCK UP WAS IF THE KEY WAS REMOVED FROM THE IGNITION. ON FRIDAY, JULY 25, 2014, MY 2011 CHEVY TRAVERSE STALLED/SHUTDOWN WHILE DRIVING. I PULLED OUT OF A LOCAL GAS STATION AND IMMEDIATELY NOTICED THAT THERE WAS A NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE. ALMOST SIMULTANEOUSLY THE CAR BEGAN TO STALL/SHUTDOWN. I PULLED OVER TO THE SHOULDER (FORTUNATELY THERE WAS ONE). I TURNED THE AC UNIT AND RADIO OFF. I STARTED THE CAR WITHOUT ANY NOISE. I DROVE APPROXIMATELY 1 MILE, TURNED THE AC BACK ON AND THE CAR STALLED/SHUTDOWN ONCE AGAIN, THIS TIME AS THE CAR WAS GOING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH. TO SAY THE LEAST, I WAS EXTREMELY DISTRAUGHT AS THE CAR LOST POWER AND STEERING. FORTUNATELY, (FOR MY FAMILY AND CHEVY), THERE WERE NO CHILDREN IN THE CAR AND THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT. THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME THAT THE PROBLEM WAS RELATED TO THE AC UNIT AND WANTS TO CHARGE ME ALMOST $2,000 TO FIX! THE AC UNIT WAS "FIXED" BACK IN JUNE 2013 WHILE CAR WAS UNDER WARRANTY. IT IS NO LONGER COVERED BY WARRANTY. MY ISSUE IS THAT THE CAR STALLED/SHUT DOWN. A CAR SHUTTING DOWN AT ANY SPEED IS A CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER. TRAVELING AT 35 MPH CREATES AN EVEN MORE DANGEROUS SITUATION. IF THE AC UNIT CAN STALL A VEHICLE THEN THIS HAS TO BE AN INHERENT DESIGN/PRODUCTION ISSUE. THERE IS NO ACCEPTABLE WAY THAT AN AC UNIT CAN FAIL AND THUS CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO SHUT DOWN PUTTING PEOPLE'S LIVES IN DANGER. I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM SAN DIEGO TO AZ WITH MY 3 KIDS WHEN ALL OF THE SUDDEN ALL MY WARNING DASH LIGHTS STARTED FLASHING, THE RADIO LOST POWER AND I LOST POWER STEERING. THIS WENT ON FOR ABOUT 1 MIN AND THEN EVERYTHING WENT AWAY AND THE RADIO TURNED BACK ON AND THE CAR SEEMED TO BE FINE. FIVE MINS LATER THE SAME THING HAPPENED SO I EXITED THE FREEWAY IN ALPINE CA, AND DROVE TO THE ONLY MECHANIC IN THE ENTIRE TOWN. AFTER AN HOUR THE MECHANIC CAME AND TOLD ME MY KEY WAS BAD AND THAT THE COMPUTER WASN'T RESPONDING AT ALL TO IT. LUCKILY FOR ME I HAD THE SPARE AND HE TRIED THAT KEY AND IT TOO WOULDN'T START THE CAR. AT THIS POINT THE MECHANIC SAID I'D HAVE TO LEAVE THE CAR WITH HIM FOR FURTHER DIAGNOSING. I THEN RENTED A CAR AND HEADED TO AZ FOR THE WEEKEND. THE DAY AFTER THEY HAD MY CAR THEY CALLED ME AND SAID THE CAR STARTED UP WITH NO PROBLEM AND NOW THEY WERE GOING TO TRY TO RECREATE THE PROBLEM. AFTER 2 DAYS AND $438.00 THEY FOUND NOTHING WRONG WITH MY CAR. MY WIFE RETURNED FROM THE DEALERSHIP AFTER RECEIVING AN OIL CHANGE AND TIRE ROTATION. SHE PARKED THE CAR IN THE DRIVEWAY AT THE HOUSE AND EXITED THE VEHICLE. AFTER ABOUT 10 MINUTES MY FAMILY GOT IN THE VEHICLE. I SMELLED A BURNING ODOR WHILE WALKING TO THE VEHICLE. MY WIFE CRANKED THE VEHICLE AND IMMEDIATELY THERE WAS WHITE SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. I OPENED THE HOOD AND THERE WAS A FIRE BURNING IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. WE GOT THE FAMILY OUT OF THE CAR AND I GRABBED A WATER HOSE AND PUT THE FLAMES OUT. AFTER ABOUT 15 MINUTES I NOTICED THAT SMOKE WAS AGAIN COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. I DISCONNECTED THE CABLE FROM THE POSITIVE TERMINAL IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND THE SMOKED STOPPED. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT THE BATTERY CABLE CAUGHT FIRE BECAUSE IT WAS NOT SUFFICIENT ENOUGH TO HANDLE THE ELECTRICAL LOAD OF THE VEHICLE AND THAT THE REPLACEMENT CABLE WAS MUCH THICKER AND MORE INSULATED. AROUND MAY 11, 2012, ON THE OHIO TURNPIKE, ACCELERATING TO 65 MPH, MY CAR BEGAN TO MAKE A LOUD REPETITIVE NOISE UNDER THE HOOD. AFTER A FEW MILES, A BATTERY SERVICE LIGHT CAME ON. THE CAR BEGAN TO OVERHEAT AND BECOME DIFFICULT TO STEER. AS I REACHED A PULLOVER, THE POWER STEERING FAILED AND EVERYTHING ELSE QUIT WORKING (RADIO, LIGHTS, ETC.) I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND COULD NOT TURN IT BACK ON. WHEN THE CAR WAS TOWED, WE FOUND THE BELT WAS SHREDDED AND DRAGGED BEHIND THE CAR. I WAS TOLD THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE WATER PUMP. THE CAR WAS ABOUT 11 MOS OLD AND HAD ABOUT 11,000 MILES ON IT. ON JUNE 2, 2013, DEJA VU. AS I LEFT A STORE AND ACCELERATED TO 45 MPH, MY CAR BEGAN TO MAKE A LOUD REPETITIVE NOISE UNDER THE HOOD. AS I ACCELERATED, THE NOISES WERE LOUDER AND FASTER. I DROVE ABOUT 5 MILES TO WALMART, THE NOISES CONTINUED, SO I DROVE HOME, ABOUT 5 MILES. IN THE MORNING, I DROVE THE CAR VERY SLOWLY BECAUSE I THOUGHT THE BELT WAS SHREDDING AGAIN, AND AS I DROVE MORE SLOWLY, THE NOISE (FROM THE PIECES OF THE BELT SLAPPING AROUND THE ENGINE) BECAME LESS AND I HOPED I COULD MAKE THE BELT LAST UNTIL I GOT TO THE DEALER. THE SERVICE BATTERY LIGHT CAME ON AND WHEN I TURNED LEFT AT AN INTERSECTION NEAR THE DEALERSHIP, THE CAR WAS VERY HARD TO STEER AND I COULD BARELY TURN INTO THE DEALERSHIP. THE DRIVER FOLLOWING ME SAID HE COULD SEE THE SHREDDED BELT DRAGGING. I LEARNED THERE HAD BEEN OTHER CARS ON WHICH THE BELT HAD SHREDDED AND THAT THERE WAS A SERVICE BULLETIN TO PUT A LINING IN TO PROTECT THE BELT FROM DAMAGE, NOT SURE IF THIS HAD BEEN DONE ON MY CAR I LEARNED THERE IS ALSO A RECALL RELATED TO THE WATER PUMP.
