Components related to timing chain failed, and vehicle is currently available with plans to sell to a salvage yard by 10/25/24. My 9 year old and I were at risk of collision when the vehicle failed. I was driving approximately 70-75 mph when we started to lose power. At 65 mph, I managed to cross 2 lanes of highway traffic and stopped on the shoulder. I turned off my vehicle and waited several minutes, hoping it would help reset or cool off a component or something. I had to try a couple of times before it started, and I attempted to drive as safely as I could, made it to 60 mph before it stopped running completely. I had to pull hard on the steering wheel to get to the shoulder again, only this time, the shoulder was pinched off in front of us and around a small blind spot behind us. I had my daughter move to the side closer to the cement barrier while waiting for a tow truck. She became very nervous about how close some of the other vehicles got. Afterwards, the error codes indicated several components pointing to a timing chain problem. I had the timing chain repaired around April or May of 2023 by a certified mechanic. I watched the oil life percentage and oil temperature gauge consistently. Everything indicated as normal, but I had difficulty pulling out the dipstick to check the oil level. Since it was hard to get a good reading, I tried to add some oil and recheck. The oil cap was nearly impossible to open, so I decided to wait for an oil tech to do it. Around 40-50% oil life, I had planned to have the oil changed. In spite of my efforts to maintain proper oil quality, the oil cap had to be opened with a wrench. Smoke rose out and dried out oil residue lined the inner walls. It was about a quart low. I don’t drive hard on it and it had only been around 3,000 miles between oil changes. It had been one year since the timing chain was replaced. Error codes remain and the vehicle runs rough if it stays on long enough after much effort to start it.

The contact owns a 2011 Chevrolet Traverse. The contact stated that while his wife was driving approximately 45 MPH, the RPM became elevated, and the check engine warning light illuminated before the vehicle lost motive power and stalled. The vehicle could not be restarted. The vehicle was towed to the local mechanic. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. 12/24/2022 while driving the car made a popping sound then started to slow down while I was driving. I went to make a left turn and the car stalled in mid turn. No warning or anything. Had it towed to a shop and was told that the motor had no oil in it. Which wasn’t true, when they pulled the dip stick it read that it was full. However when they opened the motor up, it appeared to be bone dry.

Engine failed at 182,000 miles. No warning. No indicator lights. Speed was 45+ miles per hour on 2-lane highway. Loss of engine power resulted in loss of steering control. Very hard to maneuver as vehicle coasted to stop at side of road. Put all occupants in a dangerous situation due to significantly reduced vehicle control. Vehicle would not re-start (or attempt to turn over) after failure. Towed to local shop. Local, trusted auto service center reported engine had “locked up” potentially due to low oil pressure. Again, no indication lights and routine, full oil service completed just 2500 miles prior. Engine was replaced after cost-benefit analysis of current car market prices and availability and the well-maintained condition of the vehicle overall. Concerns: Loss of control. Disappointments: One of many reliability issues with this vehicle that was purchased new in January 2011.

The contact noticed that the air conditioning system was blowing warm air. The vehicle was taken to AutoZone for diagnostic testing. The contact was informed that the timing chain was out of position. The vehicle was not repaired. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 145,000.

The contact's wife owns a 2011 Chevrolet Traverse. The contact stated that while driving 25 MPH, an abnormal knocking noise would emit from the vehicle without warning. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic where they replaced the idler pulley however, the vehicle was not repaired, and the vehicle would not start. The contact called his son and towed the vehicle to his home. The contact then called the dealer where he arranged to have the vehicle towed to a local dealer. The dealer informed him that the failure was due to a defective timing chain; however, while repairing the vehicle, the dealer informed him that the engine needed to be replaced. The contact also mentioned that the middle rear seat belt would become stuck and would not unlatch as needed. The manufacturer was notified of the failures and informed him that there were no recalls on the vehicle. The contact was referred to NHTSA for further assistance. The contact replaced the engine himself. The failure mileage was approximately 131,000

Vehicle stalls due to transmission issue at 40 mph, yes it is available for inspection. When vehicle stalls at 40 mph at that point you have no steering support and the vehicle is just coasting until you can stop. You could crash with no steering support at 40 mph into stationary object, another vehicle or pedestrians. I have had it inspected by GM dealership No warning lamps or messages or other symptoms and it is repeatable started to appear on June 9, 2021

vehicle stalls at 40mph when slowing down and you have no power steering or any other engine running support. This is very dangerous it is hard to steer and stop, you coast till you you hopefully can find a safe area to stop and restart vehicle and drives normal until the next time you are above 40mph. no codes or mil lights. repeatable every time. Everyone in the vehicles safety is at risk and so is anyone else driving in our area, can't stop or steer fast with no engine support. has not been diagnosed by dealer yet. we are trying to get it in for diagnosis.

AT 90,000 MILES I WAS DRIVING AND THE VEHICLE JUST SHUT DOWN. LOSS OF POWER STEERING, BRAKES LOCKED UP, ENGINE DIED. BROUGHT IT HOME REPLACED BATTERY AND SERPENTINE BELT. ATTEMPTED TO START, AND TOOK SEVERAL TRIES. ONCE RUNNING THERE WAS A HORRIFIC LOUD KNOCK COMING FROM THE ENGINE. TOWED TO A MECHANIC WHO REPORTED THE ENGINE WOULD "THROW A ROD ANY TIME NOW" AND THAT HAVING LOOKED THE VEHICLE OVER IT WAS NO FAULT OF MY OWN. FLUIDS WERE ALL FRESH AND FULL, NO DEBRIS IN OIL, NO REASON FOR FAILURE. I'M NOW STUCK WITH A LOAN ON A CAR THAT FAILED WAY BEFORE INDUSTRY STANDARDS. DO YOUR JOB GM AND HELP OUT YOUR CUSTOMERS! I HAVE HEARD OF MANY OTHER TRAVERSE MODELS IN THIS YEAR RANGE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE!

IT HAS HAPPENED A FEW TIMES WHERE THE STABILITRACK GOES HAYWIRE WHILE DRIVING AND LOCKS THE VEHICLE UP ALLOWING TO ONLY TRAVEL A FEW MILES PER HOUR SUPER UNSAFE WHEN ON HIGHWAY. HAVE HAD A CHEVY DEALERSHIP REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY SND LESS THAN 10,000 MILES LATER SAME PROBLEM. IN RESEARCHING ONLINE SEEMS THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM ON ALL CHEVYS THAT IS EXTREMELY UNSAFE WHEN IT HAPPENS AND YOUR DRIVING.

I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY DRIVING HOME FROM WORK AND THE CAR STARTED MAKING LOUD NOISES FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. HAD THREE DIFFERENT MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THE ISSUE. ALL POINTING TOWARDS THE TIMING CHAIN OR POSSIBLE ENGINE REPLACEMENT. THE CAR HAS HAD MAINTENANCE REGULARLY AND WELL TAKEN CARE OF. MECHANIC SAID THAT THE TRAVERSE HAS A LOT OF ISSUES REGARDING THE TIMING CHAIN ON A HUGE SCALE. I AM AT A LOSS ROAD AS TO WHAT CAN BE DONE. I HOOE THAT THETEIS A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE CAUSE AFTER READING SO MANY PEOPLE ISSUES WITH THEIR CARS, IT IS WRONG TO JUST LEAVE PEOPLE STRANDED AND HOPELESS TO GET BACK ON THE RAOD. WE WERE DRIVING ABOUT 70MPH ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN THE ENGINE STARTED TO MAKE A KNOCKING SOUND AND LOSING POWER. WE PULLED OVER TO SEE WHAT WAS WRONG AND THE CAR WOULDN'T START. WE GOT A JUMP AND HAD TO BUY A NEW BATTERY DUE TO IT BEING DRAINED. GOT A NEW BATTERY AND PULLED UP THE CODE FOR THE KNOCK SENSOR. WE REPLACED IT AND NEW CODES PULLED UP. THE ENGINE THRU A ROD WITH NO WARNING OF ANYTHING BEING WRONG WITH THE TRAVERSE. IT WAS WELL MAINTAINED WITH ONLY 140,000 MILES. THE NEW BATTERY WE BOUGHT WAS DRAINED ALMOST IMMEDIATELY AND NEEDS TO BE CHARGED FOR THE TRAVERSE TO EVEN START WHEN THE MECHANIC LOOKED AT IT.

I PURCHASED THIS CAR A MONTH AGO, DIDN'T SEE ANY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, BUT I NOW IT IS AND IT IS A CODE RELATED TO THE TIMING BELTS, IT SEEMS THE CAR STILL WORK OK BUT SOMETIMES STARTS SHAKING A LITLE. SO I SEE THERE IS A LOT OF COMPLAINS ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM, I HOPE CHEVROLET HAS A RECALL TO SOLVE THIS ISSUE, BECOUSE THIS IS A VERY HIGH COST REPAIR.

PURCHASED THE VEHICLE AT THE END OF JULY AND A COUPLE OF WEEKS AFTER STARTED NOTICING POWER FLUCTUATION WHILE DRIVING AND A KNOCKING ON THE TOP PART OF THE ENGINE WHILE DRIVING, SPECIALLY ON THE HIGHWAY AND DECIDED TO PARK IT AND WAIT FOR OUR SHOP TO TAKE A LOOK AT IT. APPARENTLY THE TIMING CHAIN NEEDS REPLACED AGAIN DESPITE OF "ISSUES ALREADY BEING CORRECTED BY THE MANUFACTURER'. THIS VEHICLE IS AROUND 98K-99K MILES RANGE AND IT MIGHT NEED THE HOLE ENGINE BLOCK REPLACED DUE TO A SLOPPY RECALL REPAIR. SPENDING 5K ON A NEW ENGINE THAT DOESN'T HAVE EVEN 100K SEEMS RIDICULOUS, BUT HAVING PEOPLE DRIVING WITH THE CHANCE OF MALFUNCTION A HIGH SPEEDS IS VERY CONCERNING.

I BOUGHT THIS CAR USED WITH 80,000 MILES ON IT. A WEEK AFTER PURCHASING IT I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP DUE TO A BURNING OIL SMELL AND WAS TOLD IT WAS "NORMAL TRAVERSE SMELL". THE SMELL KEPT GETTING WORSE BUT EVERYWHERE I TOOK IT THEY SAID IT WAS NORMAL. I HAVE HAD THE CAR FOR TWO YEARS NOW AND AFTER TAKING IT TO A LOCAL MECHANIC, NOT A GM OR CHEVY MECHANIC, WE WERE TOLD IT NEEDS THE TIMING BELT REPLACED SO WE HAD THAT DONE. THE BURNING OIL SMELL NEVER WENT AWAY SO I TOOK IT BACK AND HE FOUND THAT THE TIMING BELT NEEDS REPLACED AFTER TWO MONTHS BECAUSE A BRASS RING THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE REPLACED WASN'T. THIS BRASS RING WAS NEVER ON THE RECALL LIST SO THE PREVIOUS OWNERS KNEW NOTHING ABOUT IT. CHEVY KNOWS THEY HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THIS ENGINE BUT THEY WON'T REPLACE THEM. I AM NOT STUCK WITH A PILE OF JUNK THAT NEEDS A NEW ENGINE ALL BECAUSE CHEVY WON'T OWN UP TO THEIR FAILURE. WHY NOT RECALL THE BRASS RING INSTEAD OF EXPECTING PEOPLE TO FORK OUT $6,000 FOR A NEW ENGINE?

SO FAR I HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT ISSUES WITH MY SUV, BOUGHT A 2009 FOR 6,000 AND HAD TO PT 7,200 IN IT TO GET IT RUNNING RIGHT. I TRADED IT IN AT THE DEALERSHIP IT WAS BEING DIAGNOSED AT THANKFULLY. NOW I HAVE A 2011 AND STARTING TO HAVE MANY ISSUES UNFORTUNATELY. FIRST IT STARTED 3700 MILES AFTER I GOT MY 2011 BY LEAVING ME WITH NO POWER STEERING WHILE TRYING TO MAKE A TURN AND ALMOST WRECKED 3 TIMES GOING TO THE HOSPITAL. I WAS ABLE TO PUT POWER STEERING FLUID IN AND GOT MY POWER STEERING BACK BUT IMMEDIATELY TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER. THEY SAID IF I CAME IN AT 3500 MILES THEY WOULD HAVE REPLACED THE PUMP AND WHOLE RACK UNDER WARRENTY, BUT THEY DIDNT. SO I GOTTA TOP IT OFF EVERY FEW MONTHS, NO BIG DEAL. SUSPENSION HAS BEEN REPLACED TWICE, ROUGH IDLE, TUNED UP 3 TIMES IN 42,373 MILES. A/C ONLY BLOWS COLD ON DRIVER SIDE NOW, IT MAKES A DIFFERENT NOISE EVERY DAY AND THE DEALERSHIP SAYS I NEED TO HAVE THE ENGINE DROPPED AND TIMING CHAIN REPLACED. I CANT DROP 2400 BUCKS ON SOMETHING THAT DOESNT FIX THE PROBLEM! WAY TOO MANY NEGATIVE OUTCOMES THAT I'VE READ ON THE TIMING CHAIN ISSUE. PEOPLE THAT HAVE HAD THE ENGINE REPLACED HAD BETTER LUCK THAN A REBUILD. THIS IS ABSURD BECAUSE IT'S A GREAT FAMILY VEHICLE BUT WITH THESE ISSUES I REALLY DONT WANT TO BUY AMERICAN MADE CARS ANYMORE.

CHEVY CORP SAID CHEVY NEEDS TO DIAGNOSE AT $100 AN HOUR. THEY WOULD HAVE TO DO A COMPLETE ENGINE TEAR DOWN WHICH COULD BE 10 HOURS PLUS THE COST OF A NEW ENGINE & THEY WON'T GUARANTEE COST ASSISTANCE. THE WORK HAS TO BE DONE BY CHEVY. NEXT MORNING 12/3/2019 I GO TO TAKE HER TO GET HER WORK CAR WE GET IN MY SUV STILL IN MY DRIVEWAY AND IT MADE THIS GOD AWFUL NOISE AND I TURNED IT OFF IMMEDIATELY AND YELLED TO MY HUSBAND SOMETHING IS WRONG. HE GOES TO TRY IT AND IT SOUNDS LIKE THE CAR WANTS TO START AND NOTHING IT WON'T. WE HAVE IT FLAT BEDDED TO CRALLS GARAGE IN HARRISBURG AND HE CALLED SAID THAT WE NEED A NEW ENGINE HE SAID IT WAS MAKING A NOISE IN THE LOWER BACK END OF MOTOR AND WE NEED A NEW MOTOR. WE OWE 13000.00 ON THIS CAR AND I LOVE IT HIW CAN THIS HAPPEN. 2011 CHEVY TRAVERSE IN GREAT CONDITION. ENGINE STARED MISSING AND ROUGHLY IDLING OCCASIONALLY.CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON JUST SHORT OF 119000 MILES. AUTO PARTS STORE REPORTED DIAGNOSTIC CODE: P008. GOOGLED P008 AND MESSAGE BOARDS STATED GM HAS AN EXTENDED WARRANTY PROGRAM FOR THIS PROBLEM. WENT TO THE LOCAL CHEVY DEALER, ASKED ABOUT THE COVERAGE UP TO 120,000 MILES SINCE I WAS ALMOST UP TO 120,000 MILES. PROVIDED THE VIN & THE DEALER SAID THAT MY VEHICLE DOES NOT QUALIFY FOR REPAIRS UNDER THE PROGRAM & RECOMMENDED SCHEDULING SERVICE TO HAVE IT FIXED AT MY EXPENSE. ANOTHER OPTION WAS TO TAKE MY CHANCES. HE ADVISED KEEPING OIL LEVEL HIGH & CLEAN TO EXTEND POSSIBLE LIFE OF THE ENGINE & TIMING CHAIN. SERVICE REP SAID THAT HE SEES THIS PROBLEM ON A FAIRLY-REGULAR BASIS, ABOUT 2-4 TIMES PER MONTH. A CRITICAL FAILURE RATE OF THAT FOR JUST ONE DEALER IS WAY TOO HIGH! GM SHOULD EXTEND THE COVERAGE, ESPECIALLY WHEN THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE! DAYS LATER I DECIDED I DIDN'T WANT TO RE-EXPERIENCE MY 2001 SATURN TIMING CHAIN FAILED AT 67,000 MILES WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, NEARLY CAUSED AN ACCIDENT ON THE FREEWAY. HAD TO REPLACE THE ENGINE WITH A RE-MANUFACTURED ENGINE FOR APPROXIMATELY $3,000.00. DUE TO FATALITIES RESULTING FROM THE TIMING CHAIN FAILURES, SATURN/GM FINALLY DECIDED TO RECALL THE AFFECTED VEHICLES OR REIMBURSE FOR REPLACEMENT ENGINES. I HAD REPLACED THE ENGINE AT MY OWN EXPENSE, SO I WAS LATER REIMBURSED ~$2,500.00 BY SATURN (GM). WITH THIS IN MIND, I SCHEDULED SERVICE FOR MY 2011 TRAVERSE ABOUT A WEEK LATER AT THE GM DEALER. IT REQUIRED PULLING THE ENGINE, METAL SHAVINGS CLEANED OUT OF ENGINE, GUIDES, TENSIONERS, AND TIMING CHAIN REPLACED. COST 2 DAYS LABOR AND PARTS $2924.87. GM SHOULD EXTEND COVERING DIAGNOSED P008 FAULT REPAIRS, OR AT THE VERY LEAST, OFFER AN AFTER-FAILURE REIMBURSEMENT FOR REPAIRS/REPLACEMENT DUE TO FAULTY/STRETCHED TIMING CHAINS ON THEIR ENGINES.

GM KNOWS ABOUT THIS ISSUE SINCE THEY HAVE EXTENDED THE WARRANTY UP TO 120,000 MILES ON SOME OF THE 2011 CHEVY TRAVERSE'S AND OTHER GM MAKES AND MODELS. FOUND TIMING IS NOT IN SYNC DUE TO FAULTY TIMING CHAINS. STATED CUSTOMER DECLINED REPAIRS AT THIS TIME. CUSTOMER WOULD NEED TO REPLACE TIMING CHAINS AND ACTUATORS. I CONTACTED GM A SECOND TIME A FEW DAYS AFTER I BROUGHT MY VEHICLE TO ADAMS CHEVROLET, THE GM EMPLOYEE STATED THAT SHE WILL NOTE EVERYTHING AND HAS MY CURRENT ADDRESS AND PHONE NUMBER ON FILE IF THEY NEED TO GET AHOLD OF ME. SHE STATED AGAIN MY VIN IS NOT COVERED AND THAT I SHOULD KEEP IN TOUCH WITH A CUSTOMER SERVICE EMPLOYEE FROM A GM DEALERSHIP AND SEE IF THEY WILL WORK WITH ME ON A PRICE AT MY EXPENSE. HOW MANY TRAVERSES NEED TO FAIL BEFORE GM TAKES OWNERSHIP OF THEIR GROSS MANUFACTURING DEFECT AND MAKES THEIR CUSTOMERS WHOLE AGAIN - THIS SHOULD BE RECALLED AND A CLASS ACTION SUIT FILED. THIS HAPPENED 2 MONTHS AFTER REPLACING WATER PUMP, ALTERNATOR , BATTERY AND CRANK SHAFT SENSOR AFTER SUDDEN POWER LOSS. SOMEONE NEEDS TO HOLD GM RESPONSIBLE. WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE I ATTEMPTED TO PASS A VEHICLE AT 70 MPH WHEN SUDDENLY THE VEHICLE LOST ALL POWER. I WAS NOT ABLE TO GET TO THE RIGHT LANE SO I HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO PULL OFF TO THE LEFT WHERE I WAS BEING PASSED BY VEHICLES GOING 70 PLUS MPH NEXT TO A CEMENT BARRIER. THE VEHICLE WOULDN'T RESTART OR GIVE ANY INDICATION OF DOING SO. AFTER HAVING IT TOWED TO THE LOCAL CHEVY DEALER I WAS TOLD THAT THE TIMING CHAIN BUSTED AND SEIZED UP THE ENGINE. I CONTACTED CHEVY AND THEY STATED SINCE THE VEHICLE HAS 129400 MOLES ON IT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO ABOUT IT BECAUSE IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. THEY STATED THEY HAD NO COMPLAINTS OF THIS BEING A PROBLEM BUT THAT CONTRADICTS WHAT MULTIPLE CHEVY DEALERS HAVE TOLD ME. THE ENGINE IN THE 2011 CHEVY TRAVERSE IS APPARENTLY KNOWN TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM SO THE ENGINES ARE HARD TO FIND. UPON FURTHER RESEARCH I FOUND MULTIPLE SITES WHERE CUSTOMERS HAVE ALSO STATED THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS VEHICLE SEATS 7 PASSENGERS. WHILE I WAS ALONE ON THIS PARTICULAR DATE IT IS NOT ALWAYS THE CASE. I COULD HAVE HAD MY FAMILY WITH AND MAY NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO PULL TO SAFETY (AS SCARRY AS IT WAS BEING STRANDED ON A FOUR LANE INTERSTATE). CHEVY FAILS TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THIS IS NOT ONLY A MECHANICAL ISSUE BUT ALSO A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN. THIS IS NOT A TWO SEATER ECONOMY VEHICLE BUT A 7 SEATER FAMILY VEHICLE.

ACCORDING TO CHEVY/GM CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE (OPENED CASE #8-4134087852), DEALER TOLD THEM IT HAD LOW OIL, WHICH IS INCORRECT BECAUSE MY HUSBAND ALWAYS CHECKS THE OIL, EVEN AT THE GAS STATION WHILE FILLING UP AND IS METICULOUS WITH MAINTENANCE. WE HAVE THE RECEIPTS AND MAINTENANCE LOG TO PROVE IT. ALSO, LOW OIL WOULD CAUSE BEARING PROBLEMS, WHICH WE DON'T HAVE. GM OFFERING SOME SORT OF GOOFY ASSISTANCE THAT IS BACKWARDS AND WILL COST US EVEN MORE. MY TRAVERSE STARTED AT THE BEGINNING OF WINTER RANDOMLY HAVING THE ENGINE LIGHT COME ON THEN THE VEHICLE WOULD DING AND I WOULD GET A MESSAGE OF "SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL" THEN "SERVICE STABILITRACK" AND THEN IT WOULD DING AGAIN AND I WOULD GET THE MESSAGE "REDUCED ENGINE POWER" AFTER A COUPLE MONTHS THIS HAPPENED EVERY TIME I STARTED THE CAR AND WAS FINALLY ABLE TO TAKE IT IN TO HAVE THE CODE READ. TURNS OUT THE THROTTLE BODY WAS SHOT. GM REPLACED THIS UNDER AN EXTENDED WARRANTY. WELL UPON PICKING MY VECHEL UP I WAS TOLD THE REAR O2 SENSOR WAS SHOT, THEY WANTED TO CHARGE ME $250 TO REPLACE IT, I OPTED OUT AND MY HUSBAND, AN ON THE SIDE MECHANIC, FIXED IT FOR A TOTAL OF $30. SERVICE LIGHT STILL ON AFTER NEW O2 SENSOR. MY VEHICLE WAS ALSO MAKING A WEIRD SOUND AT THIS TIME WHICH I DESCRIBED TO MY HUSBAND AS A GRINDING. THEY HOOKED IT UP TO THE COMPUTER AGAIN AND SAID THAT THEY GAVE ME THE WRONG INFO LAST TIME THAT IT WAS THE FRONT O2 SENSOR THAT WAS BAD BUT THAT WAS THE ONLY CODE. SO I ORDERED ANOTHER O2 SENSOR FOR MY HUSBAND TO FIX... 2 DAYS LATER MY SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT STARTED FLASHING AT ME. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER AND SHUT MY VEHICLE OFF. I CALLED THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP TO AGAIN ASK IF ANOTHER CODE WAS THROWN, WAS TOLD NO... DROVE MY VEHICLE HOME AND MY HUSBAND DROVE IT. HE KNEW IT WAS THE TIMING CHAIN. HE CALLED THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP ONCE MORE AND THEY QUOTED US AT $2500 TO REPLACE AS THE ENTIRE MOTOR HAS TO COME OUT. HE CALLED TO A DIFFERENT DEALERSHIP 40 MILES AWAY AND IT WAS $1900 TO FIX. I GOT ON THE PHONE WITH GM AND WANTED TO KNOW IF THERE WAS ANY RECALLS AS THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM AND AT THIS TIME THERE ARE NOT SO THEY DIDN'T COVER ANY OF THE COST!!! I HAVE A COUSIN WHO ALSO HAS A 2011 TRAVERSE AND IT IS CURRENTLY SITTING AT THE SHOP WITH THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM, HOWEVER HERS ALSO NEEDS THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER REPLACED!!

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE SAME DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE HEADLIGHTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL OTHER TIMES EVEN AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. ALSO, WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE ENGINE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE SAME DEALER, BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC (ULTIMATE CONNECTIONS, 9517 1/2 SEPULVEDA BLVD, NORTH HILLS, CA 91343) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE CRANKSHAFT, OIL PUMP, AND ENGINE MOUNTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AT 800-222-1020 AND STATED THAT THEY WOULD REPLACE THE VEHICLE; HOWEVER, THE CONTACT DID NOT HEAR BACK. I WAS ON MY WAY HOME FROM DINNER WHEN THE ENGINE STARTED REVVING ON IT'S OWN AND THE CAR BEGAN JERKING. I PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND THE ENGINE KILLED. I RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND NOTED THAT THE BATTERY WAS SUPPLING ENOUGH POWER AND THE TEMPERATURE GAGE WAS NORMAL. AT THIS TIME, THE LIGHTS STARTED TO FLICKER, THE RPMS WERE GOING UP AND DOWN FAIRLY QUICKLY AND THE WINDOWS AND LOCKS WERE CLICKING. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE HOME (5 MILES), BUT THE PROBLEMS PERSISTED THE ENTIRE DRIVE. THE SECOND I WOULD LET ME FOOT OFF THE GAS PEDAL, THE ENGINE WOULD KILL. I TOOK IT TO THE MECHANIC AND HE SAID WHEN HE HOOKED IT UP TO THE MACHINE TO SEE WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS, THERE WAS SO MUCH WRONG HE COULDN'T ACTUALLY TELL WHAT WAS CAUSING WHAT. THE COMPUTER AND ENGINE BOTH WERE RECOMMENDED TO BE REPLACED. I LET HIM KNOW AS WELL IT HAD BECOME MORE DIFFICULT IN THE LAST FEW MONTHS TO TURN THE WHEEL WHEN GOING AT A SLOW SPEED AND VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO PARK. HE STATED IT IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THIS MAKE, MODEL AND YEAR. THE STEERING, THE COMPUTER AND THE ENGINE HE HAS SEEN MULTIPLE CUSTOMERS HAVE PROBLEMS WITH.

I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER WHO SAID THE TIMING BELT WENT OUT AND RUINED THE ENGINE, TOTAL COST FOR NEW ENGINE $7250 AND DESPITE OTHER YEARS AND VIN NUMBERS BEING RECALLED THEY REFUSED TO COVER MY VEHICLE THAT ONLY HAS 52,000 MILES. MECHANIC ALL BUT ADMITTED IT WAS A FLAW AND TOLD ME TO SAVE MY RECEIPT. I ASKED HIM IF THE ONLY WAY CHEVY WILL COVER IT IS IF SOMEONE GETS KILLED, OR IF ENOUGH PEOPLE COMPLAIN AND HE SAID YES. I RESEARCH3RD AND FOUND RECALL 13079 AND CONTACTED GM AT 18002221020 AND S/W ANNA AND WAS ADVISED ITS NOT A RECALL BUT A CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM. WE WERE DOING NORMAL DRIVING AROUND TOWN WHEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE VEHICLE STARTED RUNNING VERY ROUGH. WE WERE ABLE TO DRIVE SLOWLY AND GET THE VEHICLE HOME. THE ENGINE STARTED MAKING A KNOCKING SOUND. WE TOOK THE CAR TO A CHEVROLET DEALER TO BE LOOKED AT. THE DEALER SAID THE TIMING CHAIN AND PISTONS WERE OUT AND THEY RECOMMENDED REPLACING THE MOTOR. THEY SAID THEY HAD SEEN THIS BEFORE ON THE TRAVERSE AND WOULDN'T KNOW FOR SURE UNTIL THEY TOOK THE ENGINE APART BUT THAT WAS WHAT THE DIAGNOSTICS WERE SHOWING. WE TOWED THE CAR TO ANOTHER SHOP TO GET A SECOND OPINION. THEY ALSO STATED THE PISTONS AND BEARINGS WERE BAD, THE TIMING BELT WAS BAD AND THEY WOULD KNOW MORE IF THEY TOOK IT APART. THEY ALSO RECOMMENDED REPLACING THE MOTOR BECAUSE OF THE EXTENT OF THE DAMAGE. WE REPLACED THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE HAD 108,000 MILES AT THE TIME OF THE ENGINE FAILURE.

AT THE SAME TIME, THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED., THE ENGINE POWER WAS REDUCED FOR FEW SECONDS AND THEN EVERYTHING WENT BACK TO NORMAL. MONTHS BEFORE THE DESCRIBED INCIDENT, I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM CHEVROLET DESCRIBING THIS ISSUE AND STATING ABOUT AN EXTENDED WARRANTY TO COVER THIS ISSUE. I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND I WAS I WILL BE CHARGED ROUGHLY $150.00 TO DETECT THE ISSUE AND, IF AND ONLY IF, CERTAIN CODES WERE DISPLAYED ON THE SCAN, IT WILL BE COVERED BY THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. SINCE IT WAS EXPENSIVE I DECIDED TO GO TO ANOTHER PLACE AND THE SCAN FOR FREE AND OBTAIN THE CODES. NO CODES WERE DISPLAYED. SINCE 4 MONTHS AGO THE ENGINE SHUTOFF WHILE THE VEHICLE IS MOVING, TO START THE ENGINE IS REQUIRED TO STOP BY ANY POSSIBLE WAY, AND RESTART THE ENGINE. ONCE AGAIN, ALL LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD TURN AND THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY SHUTOFF. THIS HAD HAPPENED AT LEAST SIX TIMES IN THE LAST 4 MONTHS. IN ALL OF THIS INCIDENTS I CAN NOT TELL IF THE "REDUCED POWER ENGINE" MESSAGE IS DISPLAYED SINCE THE PRIORITY IS TO STOP THE VEHICLE. I TOOK THE VEHICLE COUPLE WEEKS AGO TO THE DEALERSHIP AND I WAS CHARGED ABOUT $150.00 TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. THE FEEDBACK FROM CHEVROLET WAS THAT NOTHING WAS WITH IN THE VEHICLE. IT IS INCONCEIVABLE THAT I WAS CHARGED THAT MUCH BY CHEVROLET TO COME BACK WITH A RESPONSE THAT THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. CHEVROLET IS WELL AWARE (THE LETTER RECEIVED IN THE PAST) THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THE VEHICLE. FURTHERMORE, THE INTERNET IS PLENTY OF PEOPLE DESCRIBING THE SAME ISSUE WITH THE TRAVERSE. I DO NOT KNOW THE PARAMETERS OF NHTSA TO CALL WHEN SHOULD BE A RECALL , BUT BASED ON THE LETTER THAT CHEVROLET SENT, AND THE MULTIPLE COMPLAINS SUGGESTS IT MIGHT BE.

IN JANUARY 2016, MY VEHICLE STARTED HAVING STABILITY TRACK ISSUES. IT GOT SO BAD I HAD THE CAR SIT UP FOR A MONTH THEN CALLED A MECHANIC OUT TO DIAGNOSIS THE CAR. THEY SENT ME TO THE CHEVY DEALERSHIP AND THEY FIXED SOMETHING WITHIN THE STEERING, BUT THAT DID NOT STOP MY STABILITRAK FROM MALFUNCTIONING. WHILE DRIVING THE STABILITRAK LIGHT TURNS ON AND SAYS IT NEEDS SERVICING. THEN IT MAKES THE ENGINE SLOW DOWN AND IT STARTS STALLING SO WE HAVE TO PULL OVER AND TURN THE CAR OFF AND TURN IT BACK ON FOR IT TO DO THE SAME THING AGAIN WITHIN MINUTES. IF THE CRUISE CONTROL IS ON IT TURNS IT OFF STARTS TO STALL AND PUTS MY FAMILY AND I IN DANGER, I JUST THANK GOD WE'VE BEEN ABLE TO ALLEVIATE MAJOR ACCIDENTS. MY CAR HAD STARTED MAKING A NOISE IN THE FRONT BEFORE I COULD GET IT TO THE SHOP THAT I TAKE IT TO I WAS GOING TO GET MY DAUGHTER HAD MY SON NEICE AND NEPHEW WAS GOING DOWN THE ROAD AND THE DASH FLASHED LOW ENGINE POWER LOST THE BREAKS AND COULD NOT STEER THE CAR. I LATER FOUND OUT THAT IT WAS THE TIMING CHAINS. AFTER RESEARCH AND TALKING WITH CHEVY THEY REFUSED TO DO ANYTHING ALTHOUGH THERE HAS BEEN MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS PUTTING PEOPLE IN DANGER AND THEY WILL NOT DO ANYTHING. THEY SAID WITH ME GOING TO A 3RD PARTY TO HAVE THE CAR WORKED ON THAT THEY WOULDN'T TOUCH MINE. MY CAR HAS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED I HAD JUST HAD THIS CAR OVER A YEAR WHEN IT STARTED THIS. I OWE 17K STILL ON THIS CAR AND NOT ABLE TO DRIVE IT. TAKATA RECALL I HAVE A 2011 CHEVY TRAVERSE LTZ WITH JUST UNDER 75K MILES. I HAD THE THROTTLE BODY REPLACED IN OCTOBER 2014 BEFORE THERE WAS A RECALL. TODAY, I GOT OUT OF CLASS, PICKED UP MY CHILDREN FROM SCHOOL AND WENT TO THE GROCERY STORE. THIS IS A 2 MILE TRIP ROUND-TRIP. I WAS DRIVING PAST THE KIDS SCHOOL STRAIGHT AHEAD ON CITY STREETS DOING ABOUT 15 MPH, JUST A FEW BLOCKS FROM OUR HOUSE, THE WARNING LIGHTS BEGAN TO BEEP AND THE DIC HAD SEVERAL MESSAGES. NOW THE CAR IS READING 2 CODES. ONE IS STILL THE P0017 AND NOW A P0008. THE TIMING CHAIN IS A WELL KNOWN ISSUE WITH THIS ENGINE AND GM STILL HASN'T ISSUED A RECALL. THERE ARE PEOPLE WITH COMPLAINTS THAT ARE OVER 2 YEARS OLD. THE CARS RUN EXTREMELY ROUGH WHILE DRIVING, USE EXCESSIVE GAS AND HAVE BEEN KNOWN TO COMPLETELY SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING. NEXT I'M RIDING ON THE FREEWAY AND THE TRUCK IMMEDIATELY STARTS SLOWING DOWN AND READS LOSS OF ENGINE POWER AND SHUTS OFF RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FREEWAY. NOW I AM FREAKING OUT WITH ME AND MY KIDS IN THE CAR AND OTHERS FLYING AROUND ME DOING 75 TO 80 MPH TO MY DECREASING SPEED. I RUN OUT OF GAS ON A BUSY STREET AND GET ANOTHER TOW. BACK TO THE CHEVROLET HOUSE IT GOES. THIS TIME THEY RESET THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND SAYS ITS STILL NOT THE FUEL PUMP, SENSOR, OR ANYTHING BECAUSE THEY CANNOT FIND ANYTHING AT ALL. I GO PICK IT UP ONCE AGAIN AND ON MY WAY HOME RAN OUT OF GAS, WHILE THE GAS LEVEL IS READING RIGHT AT HALF A TANK. I KNOW THERE WAS GAS IN THE TANK WHEN I RAN OUT AND WHEN THE TRUCK WAS TOWED. THE DEALERSHIP KEPT MY VEHICLE FOR A WHOLE WEEK AND ALL THEY DID WAS GOT THE TRUCK ON LEVEL GROUND, OBVIOUSLY, AND THE TRUCK RAN ALL THE GAS OUT WHILE PARKED AND THEY WERE 'TRYING TO FIND THE PROBLEM'. SO NOW THE GAS HAND IS NOT WORKING AT ALL AND I'M ALWAYS PUTTING GAS IN IT AND TAKING A CHANCE BECAUSE NOBODY KNOWS WHATS WRONG. WE WENT TO CHURCH APPROX 7 MILE TRIP AND FAN WAS RUNNING WHEN WE TURNED OFF CAR AGAIN AND SAW PUFF OF STEAM OR SMOKE COMING OUT FROM FRONT OF HOOD. REASONED IT WAS MORNING FOG? OR EVAPORATING WATER! ON THE WAY TO DO ERRANDS 2 DAYS LATER ENGINE WAS RUNNING ABOUT 260* ON GAUGE ON DASH. FAN CAME ON WHEN I PARKED AND RAN VERY LOUDLY. I WENT STRAIGHT TO DEALERSHIP WHICH IS ACROSS THE STREET AND MET CHEVY SERVICE REP. HE SAID IT WAS JUST THE CAR REACTING TO RUN THE DEFROST MODE ON THE AC SYSTEM AND SENT ME ON MY WAY. BEFORE I REACHED OUR HOME THE TEMP GAUGE WAS AT 260* OR HIGHER BECAUSE IT WAS ON THE HIGHEST POINT ON GAUGE. RETURNED THE NEXT DAY TO DEALERSHIP AS CAR HAD NOW OVERHEATED AGAIN, NO FAN COMING ON AT ALL, AND SERVICE WRITER SAID TURN IT OFF BEFORE IT DOES DAMAGE. WOW! LEFT CAR AND WAS CALLED THE NEXT A.M, WITH DIAGNOSIS AS BAD WATER PUMP COVERED BY RECALL. WORK WAS DONE AND THEN I WAS INFORMED THE RACK AMD PINION ASSEMBLY WAS LEAKING AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AND THE ENGINE MOUNT IS BROKEN. I AM SURE THE LEAK ON THE RACK AND PINION IS DUE TO OVERHEATING AND EXTRA PRESSURE ON THE GASKETS. NO LEAKS EVER NOTICED BEFORE THIS VISIT DURING MULTIPOINT INSPECTION PERFORMED BY DEALER ON 9/10/15. AREA OF FLUID IS FRESH ON RACK AREA. ESTIMATE AT $1745.00. I'M SURE THIS RECALL WILL BE HAPPENING SOON. I JUST RECEIVED THE NOVEMBER 2015 RECALL ON FAULTY THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR REPAIR. I HAVE SERVICED THE CAR I SHOULD HAVE AND TREATED IT VERY WELL. THERE IS NOT ONE REASON A 2011 SHOULD JUST QUIT. I ALSO HAD A ISSUES WITH TRACTION CONTROL IN THE DEAD OF WINTER THE CAR WOULD FLASH TRACTION CONTROL OFF ENGINE WILL LOSE SPEED SERVICE STABLITRACK AND THE CAR WOULD DROP FROM 65MPH RIGHT TO 25MPH IN 5 SECONDS FLAT WHICH WAS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS ANY TIME OF YEAR NOT JUST WINTER. I WAS ON MY WAY THE CHEVY DEALER TO HAVE THE SAFETY BELT AND AIRBAG RECALL REPAIRS COMPLETED ON MY 2011 TRAVERSE. I HAD FOUR CHILDREN AGES (XXX) AND UNDER IN THE CAR WITH ME. AFTER COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP AT AN INTERSECTION I MADE A LEFT HAND TURN INTO THE INSIDE TRAFFIC LANE ON A BUSY 5 LANE ROAD AND BEGAN ACCELERATE TO THE SPEED OF TRAFFIC. AS SOON AS I REACHED 40 MPH, MY SPEED QUICKLY DROPPED TO BETWEEN 15 AND 20 MPH AND THE FOLLOWING WARNING MESSAGES SHOWED UP ON MY DASH: REDUCED ENGINE POWER, SERVICE STABILITRAC AND SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL. FORTUNATELY, I WAS ABLE TO MERGE BACK OVER TO THE RIGHT LANE AND THEN COMPLETELY PULL OFF THE ROAD INTO A PARKING LOT WITHOUT GETTING REAR-ENDED BY THE CARS BEHIND ME THAT WERE TRAVELING AT THE SPEED LIMIT. I TURNED THE CAR OFF, THEN BACK ON, AND ATTEMPTED TO DRIVE. THE MAXIMUM RATE OF SPEED MY CAR WOULD REACH WAS 20 MPH, BUT I MANAGED TO DRIVE IT TO THE DEALER TAKING BACK ROADS AND SUBDIVISION ROADS. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS A FAULTY THROTTLE BODY. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND DISCOVERED THIS IS A WELL-KNOWN ISSUE WITH THESE GM VEHICLES AND A SERIOUS SAFETY RISK. AFTER TWO DAYS IN THE SHOP THEY COMPLETED THE TWO RECALL RELATED REPAIRS WITHOUT CHARGE, BUT MY COST TO REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY AND AND RESET THE IDLE WAS $513.00. I TOLD THE DEALER THAT I WAS AWARE THAT THIS IS A WELL-KNOWN AND WELL-DOCUMENTED ISSUE SO I DID NOT FEEL THAT I SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR COSTS, BUT THEY REFUSED TO COVER ANY OF THE COST BECAUSE NO RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR THIS PROBLEM. I BELIEVE THIS PROBLEM SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED AND GM SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL. I TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE FOR A FEW MINUTES AND RESTARTED AGAIN, AT WHICH TIME THE SAME ERRORS RETURNED WITH THE EXCEPTION OF ENGINE POWER REDUCED, SO THAT I COULD AT LEAST MAKE IT HOME. I IMMEDIATELY CALLED MY CHEVY DEALER WHO COMPLETES ALL SERVICE ON MY VEHICLE, AND I WAS TOLD THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM, ESPECIALLY IN THE COLD TEMPERATURES AS OIL TENDS TO ACCUMULATE IN THE THROTTLE BODY AND FREEZE UP, MAKING THE SENSOR GO HAYWIRE, LEAVING THE THROTTLE UNABLE TO COMPENSATE FOR THE CHANGES, AND THE WARNINGS TO OCCUR. I WAS TOLD IT WOULD NOT BE COVERED UNDER THE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY AND THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT IT WASN'T A BIG DEAL AND IT SHOULD BE FINE WHEN IT WARMS UP. THE FIRST TIME I PAID DEALER #1 ABOUT $150 (IF I RECALL CORRECTLY) TO HAVE THEM CLEAN CARBON FROM A SENSOR ON THE THROTTLE BODY (WHICH, COINCIDENTALLY, I'VE HAD SEVERAL PROBLEMS CAUSED BY "CARBON", ACCORDING TO THE DEALER #1). THE SECOND TIME, SAME THING, BUT PAID ONLY ABOUT $45 (TO DEALER #2 BECAUSE I WAS OUT OF TOWN). THE THIRD TIME, I PAID $600 FOR A COMPLETELY NEW THROTTLE BODY, INCLUDING ALL OF SUCH SENSORS, FROM DEALER #1. AT THAT TIME, VEHICLE WAS 'CHUGGING' BUT SHORTLY AFTER CHUGGING GOT MUCH WORSE TO THE EXTENT THAT THE VEHICLE COULD NOT ACCELERATE OR MAINTAIN SPEED AT CRUISE, OR WITHOUT CRUISE UP NORMAL HILLS ON AN INTERSTATE. WHEN GAS PEDAL WAS PRESSED FURTHER, RPM/SPEED WOULD INCREASE BUT THEN DROP SHARPLY (500-1000RPM) MULTIPLE TIMES AND NO FURTHER POWER COULD BE APPLIED. VEHICLE SLOWED DOWN TO ABOUT 50MPH AT THE TOP OF A HILL. HAPPENED FOR THE NEXT 15-20 MILES UNTIL IT COULD BE PULLED OVER. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN IN ONCE RIGHT AFTER ORIGINAL OCCURRENCE, ALL THREE LIGHTS HAD GONE OFF AT POINT AND VEHICLE DROVE NORMALLY AFTER THAT. SERVICE CENTER INDICATED A WHEEL CENSOR (FRONT RIGHT) WAS READING DEFECTIVE INFORMATION. THEY CLEANED 'DUST' FROM THE SENSOR. HAPPENED AGAIN ABOUT TWO WEEKS LATER, SIMILAR CIRCUMSTANCES/RESULTS. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE COOLANT AND ADDED THE COOLANT AND ALLOWED THE CAR TO COOL BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO START AGAIN. AFTER ABOUT 30 MINUTES HAD PASSED I STARTED THE CAR AGAIN AND THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE WAS DOWN TO 211 DEGREES. I ATTEMPTED TO DRIVE AGAIN AND A MESSAGE CAME UP ON MY DIC, IT READ ENGINE OVERHEAT IDLE ENGINE, THE ENGINE POWER REDUCED AND I WAS ONLY ABLE TO GO ABOUT 40MPH. I PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TO NO AVAIL IN THE END HAD TO HAVE MY CAR TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP. AFTER $745.00, THE WATER PUMP AND THERMOSTAT HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE TECHNICIAN INDICATED THAT THE WATER PUMP HAD BEEN LEAKING. I NEVER SAW ANY LEAKING IN MY DRIVEWAY OR WHEN I CHANGED THE OIL. *TR

WE CAME TO A BRIEF STOP AT A DRIVE THROUGH LANE (APPROX. 5-10 SECONDS), HARD CRANK OF THE WHEEL LEFT, MILD ACCELERATION, TRAVELED ABOUT 15 FEET, CRANK TO RIGHT, PULL INTO A PARKING SPOT. IMMEDIATELY PRIOR TO THE VEHICLE COMING TO A STOP, I NOTICED THICK WHITE SMOKE EMANATING FROM THE EDGES OF THE HOOD, AND WHEN THE CAR CAME TO A STOP I ORDERED EVERYONE TO GET OUT. BLACK SMOKE STARTED AS WE EXITED THE VEHICLE. I HAD THE FIRE OUT QUICKLY, ESTIMATE 45-60 SECONDS FROM SEEING SMOKE UNTIL THE FIRE WAS COMPLETELY EXTINGUISHED WITH A CHEMICAL EXTINGUISHER. IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE FIRE WAS OUT, WHEN I WAS CHECKING THE UNDERCARRIAGE, I NOTICED A TRAIL OF OIL LEADING UP A COUPLE OF FEET FROM THE FINAL RESTING PLACE OF THE VEHICLE. WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, MULTIPLE WARNINGS AND LIGHTS CAME ON AND SPEED WAS REDUCED BY THE ENGINE TO 20 MPH FROM 65MPH. MY ISSUE STARTED WHEN I WAS MAKING LEFT HAND TURNS IT WOULD SOUND LIKE THE ENGINE WOULD MAKE A LOUD NOISE WITH SOME GRINDING NOISE. THEN IT STARTED HAPPENING WITH RIGHT HAND TURNS AS WELL. TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP TODAY AND THEY BELIEVE THAT IT IS THE TRANSMISSION. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH I FOUND ALOT OF SIMILAR ISSUES. THIS NEEDS TO BE FIXED BY GM. I AM CURIOUS TO SEE HOW THIS IS HANDLED BY GM AND THE DEALERSHIP. BASICALLY IT SHOULD BE A NO BRAINER, THE VEHICLE IS 4 YEARS OLD, TRANSMISSION SHOULD NOT GO OUT THAT FAST. ALREADY FILED A COMPLAINT AND CONTACTING GM THIS AFTERNOON AS WELL. I HAVE A FEELING THIS IS GOING TO BE A FIGHT. I WAS ABLE TO LIMP THE VEHICLE TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIRS, BUT AT A VERY REDUCED SPEED. THE DEALER FOUND THAT THE "THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR" TO BE FAULTY, AND AFTER REPLACING THAT ITEM THE VEHICLE RAN NORMALLY. THIS WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THE REPAIR COST WAS $540. I WAS DRIVING ON A STATE HIGHWAY WITH NOWHERE TO PULL SAFELY OFF THE ROAD WHEN THE THROTTLE BODY FAILED. MY WIFE RETURNED FROM THE DEALERSHIP AFTER RECEIVING AN OIL CHANGE AND TIRE ROTATION. SHE PARKED THE CAR IN THE DRIVEWAY AT THE HOUSE AND EXITED THE VEHICLE. AFTER ABOUT 10 MINUTES MY FAMILY GOT IN THE VEHICLE. I SMELLED A BURNING ODOR WHILE WALKING TO THE VEHICLE. MY WIFE CRANKED THE VEHICLE AND IMMEDIATELY THERE WAS WHITE SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. I OPENED THE HOOD AND THERE WAS A FIRE BURNING IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. WE GOT THE FAMILY OUT OF THE CAR AND I GRABBED A WATER HOSE AND PUT THE FLAMES OUT. AFTER ABOUT 15 MINUTES I NOTICED THAT SMOKE WAS AGAIN COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. I DISCONNECTED THE CABLE FROM THE POSITIVE TERMINAL IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND THE SMOKED STOPPED. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT THE BATTERY CABLE CAUGHT FIRE BECAUSE IT WAS NOT SUFFICIENT ENOUGH TO HANDLE THE ELECTRICAL LOAD OF THE VEHICLE AND THAT THE REPLACEMENT CABLE WAS MUCH THICKER AND MORE INSULATED. WE WERE MOVING FROM SOUTH CAROLINA TO WISCONSIN WHICH IS A 1,000 MILE TRIP. ON THE MORNING OF FEBRUARY 9TH, 2013 WE WERE ABOUT TO ENTER CINCINNATI ON THE SECOND LEG OF OUR TRIP WHEN ALL THE SUDDEN THE DASH DISPLAYED A MESSAGE THAT SAID TRAK SYSTEM FAILED, SOON FOLLOWED BY ANOTHER MESSAGE INDICATING THE ENGINE POWER HAD BEEN REDUCED. THE VEHICLE WENT FROM 60 MPH TO APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH AND THE ENGINE BEGAN TO SHUDDER WITH A FEELING OF LOSS OF FIRING CYLINDERS, AND LOSS OF VEHICLE STEERING CONTROL. SO WE PULLED OVER, READ THE BOOK, AND SHUT THE CAR OFF LIKE IT SAID, WAITED 15 SECONDS AND THEN TURNED THE CAR BACK ON. THE CAR WAS FINE AND WE FINISHED THAT LEG OF THE TRIP HOPING NOTHING ELSE WOULD HAPPEN. IT HAPPENED ON A VERY BUSY STRETCH OF I-75N NEAR COVINGTON, KY AND IT COULD HAVE CAUSED A CRASH. MY ENTIRE FAMILY WAS IN THE CAR. SO I CALLED AND SPOKE TO A GM TECHNICIAN AT TIRE DISCOUNTERS IN CINCINNATI WHO STATED IT PROBABLY IS YOUR THROTTLE BODY AS HE HAD JUST REPAIRED THE SAME ISSUE ON ANOTHER GM CAR. BEING THAT IT WAS SATURDAY, THERE WAS NOTHING I COULD DO AND WE HAD TO STILL TRAVEL AN ADDITIONAL 300 MILES TO WISCONSIN. THE CAR ONLY HAD 45,000 MILES ON IT THE DAY OF INCIDENT. THE NEXT DAY FEBRUARY 10 2013 WE CONTINUED OUR TRIP AND RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF INDIANA THE SAME ISSUE HAPPENED AND AGAIN WE TOOK THE SAME ACTION. AGAIN IT COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT BUT WE WERE ABLE TO PULL OVER. ON TUESDAY FEBRUARY 19, 2013 I TOOK THE CAR IN TO BE LOOKED AT BY ANDREW CHEVROLET IN GLENDALE, WI AND THE DIAGNOSIS WAS THE SAME. THE THROTTLE BODY HAD GONE BAD AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPAIRED FOR $519.00. THE SERVICE MANAGER STATED THAT THEY TOO HAD CHANGED THEM ON MULTIPLE CARS. GM NEEDS TO RECALL THE 2011 TRAVERSE AND REPAIR THIS PART BEFORE SOMEONE GETS IN AN ACCIDENT AND GETS KILLED.
