The Chevy suffers from the "Shift to Park" issue due to a faulty park switch in the shifter assembly, which is an electrical issue. Apparently GM does not cover this repair but it is dangerous as the car does not shut off even when engine is off and the gear is in park.

The shift to park started popping up randomly for a month now does it every time I try to turn my car off. I have to wiggle, push the button and more times than not I have to turn back on the car and move gears to see if that will help (which it doesn't). Super annoying

"Shift to park" is displayed on the display. Vehicle will not shutdown the display system and keeps beeping. The issues worsens over time and continues to drain the battery. The vehicle is kept on.

Shift to park errors over multiple years, shutter when accelerating. Now pressure control solenoid code vehicle will not go in reverse or shift out of first gear. Transmission needs replacement. This is my family vehicle, i have 3 small children and it has turned off at stop lights etc. My families safety has been jeopardized many times driving this vehicle, especially the last time in particular. The vehicle stopped engaging in reverse and then in first would accelarate by itself on the way home from my 8 year olds baseball game.

i am getting a shift to park error code on dashboard. The shifter gear is in park but the vehicle will not turn off. I have called the dealer several times and they are told the problem but eventually they hang up on me. There seems to be a class action suit out for the issue but no recall. I would like to see recall because this is a serious safety issue. One if the vehicle does not completely turn off and you are not aware of the issue then your battery can run out. If you are in a urban/remote area which I am no dealerships for about 50 miles away can be a serious problem being stranded on the I 15 freeway. When you put the vehicle in park sometimes it pops out of gear too. There were no previous warnings prior to the shift to park dash indicator. I am not a rich person. My vehicle just has over 72,000 miles. This should be covered by a recall. Please help.

My car has twice been fixed with this shift to park message and now it is in the shop once again to be fixed!! And this has also had the torque converter fixed twice now. And it is still doing the same issues. This needs to be something that Chevy is replacing. I am a single mother and can’t afford all these problems and yet I keep having to make a car payment and get these things fixed.

The contact owns a 2018 Chevrolet Traverse. The contact stated that while driving at 30 MPH, the battery warning light and power steering assist warning light illuminated. The steering wheel seized, and the vehicle stalled and failed to restart. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with battery failure. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that eight days later, after stopping at a gas station, the vehicle failed to restart. The vehicle was towed back to the dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the Evaporative Emission Control (EVAP) system purge valve had failed. The canister purge solenoid valve was replaced. The contact stated that two weeks later, the alternator failed and was replaced; however, six months later, the failure reoccurred with the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact stated that on a separate occasion, the check engine warning light illuminated, and the vehicle failed to start. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that there was an Evaporative Emission Control (EVAP) leak. The SOP solenoid and the Evaporative Emission Control (EVAP) canister were replaced. After the vehicle was repaired, the contact stopped by the gas station, and the vehicle failed to restart. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the purge valve had failed. Most recently, the vehicle hesitated, and the engine was running rough. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the torque converter had failed. The vehicle was repaired. The contact went to several dealers for the repairs, and each dealer retrieved several electrical codes. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and several claims were filed. The failure mileage was approximately 52,000.

Frequent symptom is an "Action Required: Shift to Park" message on the dashboard. Which is preventing my vehicle from shutting down properly, and causing the battery to drain, and hinder my car's ability to start in addition to getting trapped in the vehicle because the vehicles fail to shift to the ‘Park’ position preventing me from being able to exit the vehicle. This is a known issue affecting various GM models which one being my 2018 traverse by GM but not willing to make official recall of the issue. There is a class action settlement due to this issue that was not privileged to me as an owner of a used vehicle included in this notice and have.

The vehicles fails to recognize it’s in park and does not shut off. Shift to park indicator turns on. Frequently have to park on incline and worried the vehicle will roll. The vehicle will not completely turn off and this has caused the steering to lock. When the vehicle finally turned off, then turned it back on we couldn’t get the steering wheel to unlock. Had to drive it with what felt like no power steering for a period of time. Shift to park indicator blinks and warning light appears that says no remote is detected, yet the remote is in the vehicle. Been in a situation where had to quickly get in to a Dr but the vehicle wouldn’t turn off so had to leave the vehicle running. At that point anything could happen, but had to take care of a sick child.

I recently had my alternator fixed and the torque converter last year. I was having issues with the battery staying charged, car would jerk, radio, heat and air would shut off and come back on, car would go in reverse although I'm trying to go forward, shift to park warning message when car was in park and there are shortages out something that will connect and disconnect the Bluetooth when I'm on calls via Bluetooth. I picked my car up from Love Chevrolet 1/28/2025. Everything seemed fine but the car still jerked when I would take off at lights, make turns or go up hills. The shift to park message is still happening. When I park the car and turn it off the car makes a sound and the warning pops up. The car lights will not go off when this happens. I have to turn the car off and on or take it out of park a few times for it to stop. I'm afraid to leave the car with that warning on because the doors won't lock and I'm afraid it will roll. Love Chevrolet said they didn't see the error message for it while they were driving but it constantly happens to me. Even when I turn the car on to warm it up it gives me that error message.

I own a 2018 Chevy Traverse and have been experiencing an issue with the stabilizer trak. When my vehicle goes in idle, occasionally I am getting an alert to check the stabilizer trak. I have reached out to several mechanics and they have all stated that this is a common problem with the 2018 and 2019 chevy traverse. This is a safety issue with this vehicle and I’m wondering how there is no recall for it with it being a common issue found. This issue caused issues with controlling our vehicles, will Chevrolet take action.

The contact stated that the vehicle was parked; however, the shift to park(P) warning light was illuminated. When this happens we have 2 options. 1st to sit and wait for the vehicle to turn off(takes over an hour on average), 2nd Disconnect the negative battery connection. The vehicle shuts down nearly instantly. Then reconnect the battery before being able to use the vehicle again

The gear shifter in my vehicle consistently fails to lock into “Park.” Whenever I place the car in “Park,” a message appears on the dashboard stating, “Shift to Park,” which prevents me from turning off the vehicle. It takes multiple attempts to get the shifter to lock into place and for the message to disappear. This issue is not only frustrating but also poses a potential safety hazard, as the vehicle does not reliably indicate that it is in “Park.”

Had my traverse for two years, second owner. When I received the car, it had to immediately go into the shop as they couldn’t figure out why all sorts of dash lights where coming on. My car was at the dealership for three weeks and ultimately they replaced the chip, stating that was the issue. Two months down the road, I get the shift to park error message starting. Fast forward to 4 months ago when the stability error message starts to intermittently come on and off. 30 days ago I got the first of the service charging system message and the battery saver mode. My car shut itself down while I was doing 55 miles per hour on a back country road. Every lthing locked up and I had to force a turn to get out of traffic. It was determined my battery was good but alternator was bad. Checked fuses just to be safe all were good. Replaced the alternator with a new one. As of today, I am not able to drive my vehicle because of this same issue. This time I went ahead and replaced the battery and nothing has changed. They are saying it’s my alternator AGAIN. How is this possible that all of us 2018 traverse drivers are experiencing the exact same malfunctions in order and now we have to repeatedly replace the alternator? There is no way 1000s more of traverse owners are all buying “bad” alternators. Something is going on with this and these vehicles are not safe to drive. I can’t even trade mine in because my credit is shot. I pay way too much for this car to not be able to reliably and safely transport my kids to and from school.

So since 8/02/23 when the vehicle had 54,000 miles it began to give electrical problems. I bought the car 01/16/23 it had only 26,000 miles. The service battery charging system light and battery saver mode went on and also the reduced steering light which began to shut the car down I immediately pulled over. Took it to gm dealer they tested battery was dead then charged it checked alternator it failed so they replaced alternator. 7 days later 8/10/23 the car is still running rough idle. Had savi code p0496 evap flow during non purge replaced purge solenoid. The car still the engine slightly was not 100 percent fixed I told them every time it wasn't good. 02/12/24 I took back to dealer engine running rough and every time I put gas it was hesitant the transmission I am assuming check engine light was on code p0496 the gm dealer diagnosised and replaced canister purge solenoid.so 2/28/24 battery saver mode light came on andservice battery charging vehicle stalled out checked alternator failed replaced alternator. 6/25/24 took to another gm dealer and the diagnosised it check engine light was on and told them my car wasn't starting well after I filled my gas and rough engine. Told me to come back 7/03/24 to do evap canister check engine light was on they found evap leak from from evap canister charged me 508 dollars. So I took vehicle from dealer towards hone filled up gas car would not start problem was not fixed called dealer immediately manager said get here before they close I did and manager left but on service guy got the master mechanic to look at it he said it's purge valve the next day they were closed due to 4th of July so was told to take back on 7/5/24 to replace purge solenoid. The gas issue was fixed but now the transmission is worse when I accelerate it stutters bad I been telling both dealers was told they can't look at vehicle unless check engine light was on so 3 faulty purge valves 2 alternators replaced and car stutters worse shift to park light.

This concerns a defective transmission control (shifter) assembly. The defective shifter assemblies prevent the vehicles from detecting when the driver places the car in “Park.” As a result, the vehicle goes into accessory mode and one cannot shut off or lock the vehicle, the instrument cluster displays a “Shift to Park” message even though the gear shifter is already in “Park,” and the battery drains. Because one cannot reliably turn off their vehicles when reaching their destination, the Defect substantially impairs the vehicles’ ability to provide safe and reliable transportation. Shifter assemblies are not expected replacement or maintenance parts and absent a defect should not require replacement. Nonetheless, GM had knowledge of the defect and GM fails to repair the GM known Defect. Chevrolet service department has confirmed the defect.

Shift to Park error occurs 90% of the time I put my car into park. The car turns off but none of the electrical does, like its in accessory mode. Dings when you try to leave the car and will not lock. Display reads 'Shift into Park'. I have to jiggle the shifter to get it to engage. Could be a couple jiggles or 5 mins of jiggling and restarting the car, shifting from drive to park over and over.. This has been "repaired" once under warranty. Now that it is out of warranty the manufacturer refuses to cover any of the expenses on this known issue with a bulletin per your website. I did not realize this was happening to so many. Should be a recall for sure! VERY FRUSTERATING.

when driving my vehicle with the air condition on after about 25 minutes, the audio system completely goes out. no sound from the stereo, the backup camera alert, the blind spot alert, the "clicking" sound from the blinkers, all chimes, everything. The mechanic looked at the car and stated that this is a result of the condensation from the HVAC system entering the Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) module through the module vents. He stated this should have been a recall as it is an extreme safety hazard as it prevents any audio alerts of the blind spot or backup camera warning systems. He states the ANC module should be replaced and a secondary shield should be installed to prevent this in the future. The sound eventually comes back once the condensation dries up but once the Air condition comes back on again shortly all the sounds go out again.

The contact stated that once the vehicle restarted the vehicle hesitated. The contact stated while the vehicle was stopped at a stop light the vehicle drifted backwards and stalled. The contact also stated while attempting to start the vehicle, the vehicle failed start. The contact stated that the vehicle made an abnormal sound as if the engine was about to stall. The contact was able to restart the vehicle after several attempts and had the vehicle jumpstarted. The contact then continued to drive, and once stopped again at a stop light the vehicle stalled and would not restart. The contact had the vehicle towed to a dealer who diagnosed and replaced the alternator. The contact stated following the alternator repair, the "Battery Charging System Service" message was displayed. The contact stated after clearing the message the "Battery Saver Mode" alert was displayed. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and diagnosed it with a battery and an unknown sensor failure. The battery and the sensors were replaced; however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to reach out to the States Attorney General and contact the NHTSA Hotline. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 149,000.

The emergency park brake engaged automatically, and the battery had to be disconnect to reset it. When the vehicle is shifted to park, the dash display says shift to park even though the vehicle has been shifted to park. Have to start and turn off engine, the shift lever back and forth for vehicle display message has been cleared. This has happened more than once

My quarter panel taillight has stopped working due to moisture in the light (no visible breakage on light). This part is on continuous backorder with no ETA of coming back in stock. Dealer has ordered part but will not give a loaner car. GM acknowledged backorder but will not give rental reimbursement. I have three children I am to put in this car that does not have a left turn signal or brake light. I feel unsafe driving this car as I may be rear ended but everyone I talk to says they can't do anything. What am I to do.

I had just got gas and the vehicle took longer than usual to start/turn over. I was leaving the store and sitting at the stop sign that is on a small incline. When I proceeded to go, my truck shook a few times, cut off, and I had no control of the vehicle. The brake pedal would not push down and my vehicle began rolling backwards. There was a car behind me that started honking his horn because I was going to run into him. I pushed the start/turn off ignition button and tried the brakes again and it worked. I had to sit there for about 5 minutes to get myself together because I was terrified to take off again. About a week later I was pulling out from my subdivision and the truck started alarming to service the StabiliTrak as I was pulling out. At the moment, the steering wheel became almost impossible to turn and the car didn't want to go! I had several cars coming my way and my vehicle was in the middle of the road. Thank goodness the cars slowed down and my vehicle decided to start working. About a month later it started sounding like a go-kart. I had the vehicle checked out by a mechanic and I was told I needed a new battery and my exhaust pipe had a hole. I bought the battery and the $1200 pipe and had it installed. Now a different exhaust pipe has a hole and the part is on back order because apparently this is a frequent reccuring issue but no recall. I never feel safe driving my truck and it is a 2018 and not yet at 100,000 miles, That is pretty sad! The vehicle is available for inspection.

I was driving on the highway and without any warning, the acceleration did not work in my car. I coasted to the side of the highway and waited for over an hour for a tow truck to arrive. Chevrolet replaced the transmission. I was told Chevrolet would consider rebates if I go through a Chevrolet dealership to fix it. They charged $2,000 over other shops, but only offered $200 off. They also took over a month to repair my vehicle. I wish I did not use them for repairs. Also, during heavy rains, the car leaked water through the electrical components in the roof. We intervened several times, but water persistently came through. Finally, we purchased the car at under 30,000 miles and immediately needed to replace the exhaust and shift to park feature. The car would not recognize when I was in park and could not turn off.

Put vehicle into Park and push engine stop button. The engine does not shut off and shift to park light comes on along with alarm. You cannot shut off and lock the vehicle. This is a serious safety issue which GM has not issued a recall. They issued a Technical Service bulletin 19-NA-206 to dealer and requiring customer to pay for the update. This should be a safety recall. There are many complaint on file from GM customers on various models. Can you investigate this and get them to correct this safety issue.

SHIFT TO PARK error comes up when park to shut down. Does not allow shutdown of the car without beeping notices. Not allowing doors to lock or driver to exit. Must be fairly common as Google shows a lot of workarounds or how to fix a clip under the shifter knob down in the console.

This Traverse is the Redline Edition. Beginning in November 2022, the Right Passenger quarter LED tail Lamp stopped working. it operates the turn signal and stop light. It is unavailable since that time. It is now 6 months I have been operating this vehicle which is unsafe. It is the whole assembly and I cannot replace it with the regular taillamp due to the wiring harness. I was told from Chevrolet to go to the dealer and the dealer tells me that the part has been on National Backorder for months.

I placed my car in park & an alert went off stating, “shift to park.” My car would not turn off, after multiple attempts, until I turned it on & off & drove the car a short distance. This has happened several times this month, with no warning or symptoms. My car is currently in for service & the dealership mentioned there’s a shortage in the switch, requiring a $400 repair. I feel my safety & that of others, is at risk, as my car currently does not know if it’s in park or drive. What’s to say this issue won’t arise, when I’m driving down the interstate at 70mph? Or I am having a medical emergency & can’t turn my car off to place it in park? I did a google search & apparently this is a very common issue with this type of car. The dealer mentioned it would have been covered under a 3 year/36,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty, but my car is 4 years old with 37,000 miles on it.

Shift to park error. Happens often when the car is in park, the error states that the car is not in park and has an alarm that goes off. I am unsure if the car is safely in park and not sure my car will lock if I do not try to cancel out the message by continuously starting the car back up and shifting the gears to ensure it is in park. It happens very frequently. I was told by the dealership that they have replaced a lot of these parts and they are not sure why a recall has not been issued yet.

Rear taillight has moisture inside which can cause an electrical shortage. Upon Google search, there are tons of other 2018 Traverses with the same issue. I contacted the dealership about a GM service bulletin about the same issue but they stated we would have to pay out of pocket for this issue.

The driver information display indicates the vehicle is not in park when it is shifted in park and engine is turned off. A warning chime goes off and will not stop until the button on the shifter is flipped multiple times. I talked to the service manager and he indicated that many vehicles are showing this fault. The entire shifter assembly would have to be replaced to fix the issue. There is a microswitch on the assembly that is the cause of the problem. My concern is this false indicator could lead to a safety issue for drivers who don't understand the issue. Also why isn't a recall issued by GM since many vehicles have displayed this problem. My other concern is the daytime driving light is intermittent on this vehicle but what else is next to fail electrically.

When I turn off the vehicle, there is an audible dinging that does not stop and a message "shift to park" on the screen. This warning and message does not stop and therefore would run down the battery if left. I googled a solution before taking to the dealership and it turns out, this is a common failing in many Chevy vehicles. It is a small part located in the shift control, literally a 1 inch strip of flexible metal, that isn't making a good connection to a sensor. Chevy should fix this or replace for free since it is clearly a defect, but instead service departments charge a diagnostic fee ($169) and I was told it would be a $777 fix on top of the fee. With the "shop fees" it would cost $1,000.

Attempted to park vehicle in level parking lot. Vehicle appeared to go into Park. Driver Information Center indicated that vehicle was not in Park and provided warning bells. When exiting the vehicle was providing warning more warning sounds and would not stop. Vehicle was in Park, but would have run warnings until battery discharge. Tried cycling vehicle, contacted On-Star and began troubleshooting with them. I was unable to resolve with them and GM support. Took to dealership and after troubleshooting was resolved by following steps in TSB 19-NA-206 which was performed outside of any warranty coverage.

On January 9, 2022 I was unable to release the parking brake. When I turned the car on, an alert popped up saying “service parking brake”. When I tried to release the parking brake, it would not release. It still made the sound as if it was trying to release but the parking brake was still engaged. I turned the car off and went back into my house for 10 minutes and then came out to try it again. Again, when I turned on the car, it said “service parking brake”. I tried to disengage the parking brake and it wouldn’t release. I pulled the button up as if I was setting the parking brake and pushed it down to release 3 times, with no change. On the 4th try, the parking brake disengaged. I received an email from OnStar Notifications informing me of the issue and directing me to take it to a service center. (Pic of email attached) This component has not been inspected by anyone. I would be willing to make the vehicle available for inspection upon request. This issue compromises safety because I have to set my parking brake, as I park on an incline and my truck rolls back a little each time I put it in park, or release the parking brake. It would be dangerous to leave my truck parked without the parking brake, but I can’t have my truck stuck with the parking brake on when I need to leave.

Electrical ground problem affecting transmission control is evident by a Shift to Park warning that displays on the driver information center and prevents vehicle from being turned off. GM has this problem so we’ll documented that a TSB exists and is on file with NHTSA. The inability to turn off the vehicle when this is encountered is a significant safety issue. We paid out of pocket to have the fix recommended in the TSB applied to our vehicle.

This was alarming and caused me to put on the brakes immediately, although there was no impending crash. This cause the cars behind me to take evasive action and apply their brakes in an emergency fashion and almost cause several collisions. The car does not recognize when the vehicle is in park. It will ding an error at you so you are unable to leave your vehicle. This error will continue to go off until you can find a trick to shut the car down. I work downtown and need to park in a garage. I was left sitting with an alarm going off for several days while I searched for tricks on my phone to get the error to turn off. I am a single female and I was put at risk because my car would not turn off. I had to sit in the garage alone until I could find a way to be able to leave my car.

When my vehicle has been shifted into park (the transmission shifter shifted into P for Park) and the engine has been turned off a "shift into Park" warning message is displayed on the dashboard and a warning chime sounds. My vehicle's ignition remains ON and the audio system does not shut off. The transmission shifter shows the P (Park selection) P as red indicating the transmission is in park and the transmission shifter is locked in the park position. I must restart my vehicle and re-shift the transmission selector back into park multiple times before my vehicle turns the vehicle's ignition to OFF.

IT WOULD ALARM & CHARM WITH A MESSAGE TO "SHIFT TO PARK". THIS IS A KNOWN MANUFACTURING ISSUES WITH THE CHEVROLET TRAVERSE, GMC ACADIAS, AND POSSIBLY OTHER MODELS OF CHEVY/GMC. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN AS THERE IS NO WAY TO KNOW IF THE VEHICLE IS TRULY IN PARK AND CAN LEAVE YOU IN SCARY SITUATIONS WHEN YOU CANNOT TURN OFF THE CAR. WE HAVE ALSO BEEN STRANDED WITH A DEAD BATTERY BECAUSE THE "SHIFT TO PARK" CHIME AND MESSAGE DRAINED THE BATTERY. CHEVROLET HAS PROVIDED THEIR DEALERSHIPS WITH BULLETINS IN HOW TO ADD A JUMPER HARNESS AND ADD/REPLACE A SWITCH IN THE GEAR SHIFT ASSEMBLY TO CORRECT THE ISSUE, BUT REFUSE TO TAKE ACCOUNTABILITY. I HAVE HAD MULTIPLE SERVICE ADVISORS ADMIT THEY HAVE HAD TO FIX NUMEROUS GEAR SHIFTERS AND THAT THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE. WEEK LATER HEADLIGHT CONNECTION MELTED AND HAD TO BE FIXED SPENT A WEEK IN SHOP. STARTED CLAIM AT GM TO TAKE CAR BACK AFTER A MONTH OF RUN AROUND AND STALLING THEY OFFERED ME $250 IN ACCESSORIES AND DROPPED THE PROBLEM AS IT IS ALL FIXED UNDER WARRANTY. THE DIAGNOSTIC BLOCK UNDER THE DASH MELTED SO THEY COULDN'T USE IT AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. MOST RECENT THE LEFT BRAKE LIGHT FAILED AND IT WAS BECAUSE THE CONNECTION MELTED AND THE LIGHT HAD TO BE REPLACED. A WEEK AFTER THAT I WAS DRIVING ON I75 AND HEARD AN EXPLOSION AND THE RIGHT BRAKE LIGHT WAS BLOWN OUT OF THE CAR. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND HE CONNECTION WAS MELTED AND THE CAR HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP SINCE 29 SEPT 20 AND TODAY IS 7 OCT20 THE CAR HAS ONLY 21700 MILES ON IT. I HAVE AGAIN CALLED GM AND STARTED AGAIN THAT THIS ELECTRICAL PROBLEM IS DANGEROUS AS THOSE LIGHTS ARE LED LOW VOLTAGE SO WHAT IS CAUSING THIS SURGE OF HIGH VOLTAGE AND NO ANSWER. THIS RENDERS THE DRIVER UNABLE TO TURN OFF THE VEHICLE AND WILL LEAD TO BATTERY DRAIN. WE BROUGHT THE VEHICLE ONCE AGAIN TO LUCAS CHEVROLET SERVICE DEPARTMENT ON DECEMBER 31ST TO FIX THIS AND WERE MADE AWARE THAT THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM, NOT YET AT THE RECALL LEVEL. YOU CANNOT TURN OFF THE VEHICLE UNTIL YOU REPEATEDLY START THE VEHICLE, PLACE IT IN DRIVE THEN BACK TO PARK. EVENTUALLY IT WILL WORK CORRECTLY. VEHICLE WILL NOT LOCK WHEN THIS HAPPENS. THIS NOW HAPPENS EVERY TIME I TRY TO TURN OFF THE VEHICLE. I AM JUST OUT OF WARRANTY AND DEALERSHIP SAYS I NEED TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE STEERING COLUMN AS THE RECOMMENDED FIX FROM MANUFACTURER DID NOT WORK. ALL OF WHICH ARE OUT OF POCKET EXPENSES DESPITE THIS BEING A WELL KNOWN ISSUE. ALSO, VEHICLE WILL RANDOMLY HAVE A LONG DELAY BEFORE THE VEHICLE SHIFTS IN GEAR. YOU SHIFT TO D AND HIT THE GAS AND THE ENGINE REVS LIKE IT IS IN NEUTRAL AND EVENTUALLY IT WILL FINALLY START TO GO. THIS DELAY WITH ENGINE REVVING ALSO HAPPENS RANDOMLY WHEN AT A STOP AND ACCELERATING THROUGH INTERSECTIONS AND I HAVE HAD A FEW NEAR MISSES OF ALMOST BEING HIT BECAUSE OF THIS! THIS SECOND ISSUE ONLY SEEMS TO HAPPEN WHEN GOING FROM A STOP.

I JUST HAD A CLOSE CALL INVOLVING THE AUTO STOP. I WAS IN BRANSON MO ON VACATION AND THIS PLACE IS BUILT ON HILLS AND MORE HILLS. I HAD COME TO A STOP ON A HILLSIDE AND THE CAR WENT TO AUTO STOP. WHEN I LIFTED MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE SO AUTO STOP WOULD NOT BE ENGAGED THE ENGINE STOPPED. I HAD NO BRAKES OR STEERING OF THE VEHICLE AND IT STARTED ROLLING BACKWARD ' THANK GOODNESS THERE WERE NO CARS BEHIND ME. WHEN I ATTEMPT TO TURN MY VEHICLE OFF, I GET A MESSAGE ON THE SCREEN THAT SAYS TO PUT THE CAR IN PARK. I VERIFIED THAT THE CAR IS IN PARK AND THE SCREEN READS THAT IT IS. THE MESSAGE CONTINUES, AND THE VEHICLE WILL NOT ALLOW ME TO SHUT ANYTHING OFF OR LOCK THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE JUST CONTINUES TO CHIME. THE ONLY RECOURSE IS TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY. BUT THEN, I CANNOT LOCK THE VEHICLE. I HAVE INCLUDED A PICTURE OF THE SCREEN TO SHOW WHAT I AM SEEING. I HAVE SEEN SEVERAL ISSUES ONLINE REGARDING GM VEHICLES WITH THIS ISSUE. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP, WHO HAS LEFT ME STRANDED WITHOUT A CAR, THAT THEY HAVE SEEN THIS BUT THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH ISSUES OUT THERE TO WARRANT A RECALL. IT WOULD SEEM TO ME THAT THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT SHOULD REQUIRE IMMEDIATE ATTENTION.

BEGAN 6/19, WITH PROGRESSIVE WORSENING. WHEN THE VEHICLE IS PLACED INTO PARK AND SHUT-OFF, A WARNING APPEARS ON THE INFO DISPLAY STATING" SHIFT TO PARK". AT WHICH POINT THE VEHICLE KEEPS ALL LIGHTS ON THE INSIDE AND OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE ILLUMINATED, THE AC STAYS ON, THE RADIO/ENTERTAINMENT DISPLAY STAYS ON, IN ADDITION TO A WARNING BEEP/CHIME THAT IS TYPICAL WHEN THE VEHICLE IS LEFT "ON" AND YOU OPEN THE DOOR. IN OTHER WORDS, OUR VEHICLE STILL THINKS IT IS "ON" AND "IN" GEAR. IN THE BEGINNING IT WOULD TAKE 2-5 TIMES OF TURNING THE VEHICLE BACK ON AND OFF IN ORDER FOR THE WARNING TO GO AWAY AND THE VEHICLE TO SHUT-OFF PROPERLY. NOW, IT WILL NO LONGER SHUT-OFF REGARDLESS OF HOW MANY TIMES THE ENGINE IS RESTARTED AND THE STICK-SHIFT IS MOVED OUT OF PARK & BACK. HAVE RESORTED TO UNPLUGGING THE BATTERY EVERY TIME WE EXIT THE VEHICLE TO KEEP IT FROM BEING DRAINED. THE VEHICLE HAS ALSO NOT RE-STARTED AT ALL(TAKING 15 MINUTES OF RE-ENGAGING THE STARTER BUTTON AT ITS WORST). LEAVING MY WIFE & TODDLERS STUCK IN 100PLUS DEGREE HEAT. WHEN IT DOES NOT RE-START, THE DASH DISPLAY READS THE VEHICLE AT "0 MPH" AND ALLOWS THE GEARS TO BE SHIFTED. THERE ARE NUMEROUS OTHER PEOPLE ONLINE STATING SIMILAR ISSUES. SOME HAVE RESOLVED WITH A CHANGE OF THE SHIFTER MECHANISM, & OTHERS STILL WITH CONTINUED ISSUES AFTER THAT. THE DEALERSHIP STATED THERE IS ONLY 1 PART LEFT IN TOWN, AND THAT IT IS ON BACK-ORDER AND THEY CAN'T GET IT FROM THE MANUFACTURER(THEY TRIED THEIR TWO NATIONWIDE WAREHOUSE LOCATIONS). NOT ONLY THAT, THE DEALERSHIP SAID WE NEEDED TO LEAVE THE VEHICLE WITH THEM AND THEY WOULD NOT EVEN "LOOK AT IT" FOR UP TO 1.5 WEEKS, AND THAT THEY WERE OUT OF LOANER VEHICLES. THE VEHICLE IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY, AND WAS PURCHASED CERTIFIED-USED. NOTHING HAS OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE OR WHEN STOPPED AT A LIGHT/STOP-SIGN, BUT WE CERTAINLY DON'T WANT TO FIND OUT WHAT "COULD" HAPPEN.

YOU CANNOT TURN OFF THE VEHICLE UNTIL YOU REPEATEDLY START THE VEHICLE, PLACE IT IN DRIVE THEN BACK TO PARK. EVENTUALLY IT WILL WORK CORRECTLY. IT ALSO SEEMS TO CLEAR IF I SHIFT ALL THE WAY DOWN TO L THEN BACK TO PARK. ISSUE 2 RANDOMLY (BUT OFTEN) WHEN YOU START THE VEHICLE AND SHIFT IT INTO DRIVE THERE IS A LONG DELAY BEFORE THE VEHICLE SHIFTS IN GEAR. YOU SHIFT TO D AND HIT THE GAS AND THE ENGINE REVS LIKE IT'S IN NEUTRAL. LOOKING AT THE DISPLAY THE D KEEPS FLASHING THEN EVENTUALLY IT WILL STOP FLASHING AND THE VEHICLE WILL GO IN GEAR. WHEN I TURN THE VEHICLE OFF AND ALL POWER IS OFF, I CAN WALK IN THE HOUSE AND ABOUT 4 MINUTES LATER MY RADIO COMES ON BY ITSELF. EVEN IF THE RADIO IS POWERED OFF. THE VOLUME WILL ONLY GO UP TO 32-36, AS FAR AS SOUND, WHILE THE RADIO SCREEN SHOWS 63. IT'S NOT LOUD AT ALL! WHEN I TURN THE VOLUME BUTTON DOWN, THE RADIO INCREASES VOLUME BUT STILL ISN'T AS LOUD AS BEFORE. IT HAS LESS THAN 30,000 MILES ON IT AND IT'S VERY UPSETTING. I'VE ALREADY HAD TO PUT IN THE SHOP TO REPLACE ONE FAULTY PART ALREADY.

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO HAMPTON CHEVROLET (757-325-9604, LOCATED AT 1073 W MERCURY BLVD, HAMPTON, VA 23666) WHERE THE TECHNICIAN PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND FOUND CODES P0014 AND P0024. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE CODES AND ADVISED THE TECHNICIAN TO CLEAR THE CODES AND RETURN THE VEHICLE TO THE CONTACT. THE TECHNICIAN ACTED ACCORDINGLY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER AND THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THERE WAS NO REMEDY FOR THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT INSISTED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND UNSAFE TO DRIVE. IN EARLY APRIL 2019, APPROXIMATELY THE FIRST WEEK OF APRIL, I WAS DRIVING THE TRAVERSE ON A HILL AND STOPPED AT A STOP LIGHT. THIS SPECIFIC INCIDENT OCCURRED A TOTAL OF TWO TIMES. ON APRIL 23, 2019 AROUND 9:40 AM I WAS DRIVING AND MY CAR STALLED MULTIPLE TIMES DURING THIS TRIP. I WAS NOT SURE IF THE CAR WAS GOING TO MAKE IT TO MY FINAL DESTINATION. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. ON APRIL 24, I RECEIVED A CALL FROM THE DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED ME THAT THE CAR SHOWED 4 'CODES'. P0011 'A' CAMSHAFT POSITION ' TIMING OVER-ADVANCED OR SYSTEM PERFORMANCE BANK 1 P0014 'B' CAMSHAFT POSITION ' TIMING OVER-ADVANCED OR SYSTEM PERFORMANCE BANK 1 P0021 'A' CAMSHAFT POSITION ' TIMING OVER-ADVANCED OR SYSTEM PERFORMANCE BANK 2 P0024 'B' CAMSHAFT POSITION ' TIMING OVER-ADVANCED OR SYSTEM PERFORMANCE BANK 2 THESE CODES REPRESENTED A SOFTWARE PROBLEM RELATED TO THE ENGINE. TIM INFORMED ME THAT ACCORDING TO THE GM BULLETIN (PIP5568E OR DOCUMENT ID# 5251270), THE RECOMMENDATION IS TO DELETE THE CODES AND THAT THERE IS NOT A SOFTWARE SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM AT THIS TIME. THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED ME THAT BECAUSE OF THE SEVERITY OF THE SYMPTOMS I WAS EXPERIENCING RELATED TO THE CODES HE DID NOT FEEL COMFORTABLE WITH THE RECOMMENDATION FROM THE GM BULLETIN AND HE WOULD BE ESCALATING THE ISSUE TO THE GM DISTRICT MANAGER. THE ULTIMATE RESULT IS THAT THEY WANT TO DELETE THE CODES AND HAVE ME COME PICK UP THE CAR AS THERE IS NO SOLUTION TO THE ISSUE AT THIS TIME.

ON A NORMAL SUNNY AFTERNOON AFTER ABOUT DRIVING FOR 20 OR SO MILES, WE WERE APPROACHING A RED LIGHT IN A LINE OF TRAFFIC AT A BUSY INTERSECTION, THE VEHICLE APPEARED TO START SLIGHTLY JERKING AS I WAS COMING TO A STOP. ONCE STOPPED THE STOP/START FUNCTION OPERATED. UPON RELEASING THE BRAKE TO ACCELERATE THRU THE INTERSECTION THE VEHICLE STARTED JERKING AND LURCHING UNCONTROLLABLY THEN SHUT DOWN COMPLETELY, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WENT DARK. I COULD NOT GET THE CAR OUT OF THE LINE OF HEAVY TRAFFIC, I HAD TO PUT IT IN PARK RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD AND TRY THE START BUTTON. THANKFULLY THE VEHICLE STARTED, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND STAYED ON BUT THE VEHICLE APPEARED TO BE RUNNING NORMAL AGAIN AND WE WERE ABLE TO PROCEED. THIS WAS VERY UPSETTING AND DANGEROUS AS IT OCCURRED IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AT AN INTERSECTION. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP THE NEXT DAY (I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE USED 2 WEEKS PRIOR, THIS WAS ONLY MY 2ND TIME DRIVING IT AND I HAD ONLY PUT 70 MILES ON IT IN THE 2 WEEKS I HAD IT). THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS APPROX. 25,600. THE HARD CODE THE DEALER RETRIEVED NOTED A CAMSHAFT SENSOR ISSUE. THE SENSOR WAS NOTREPLACED, I WAS TOLD THAT GM IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND WOULD BE ISSUING A RECALL BUT THEY ARE NOT SURE WHEN. THEY SAID IT WAS A COMPUTER PROGRAM ISSUE. I AM VERY CONCERNED FOR OUR SAFETY WHILE OPERATING THIS VEHICLE AS THEY SAID THE ISSUE MAY OR MAY NOT HAPPEN AGAIN. ONSTAR SENT ME AN EMAIL NOTIFYING ME THAT MY 2018 CHEV TRAVERSE HAD AND ENGINE/TRANSMISSION ISSUE AND TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER ASAP . THANK YOU ONSTAR, I AM VERY AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND IT WAS ALREADY AT THE DEALER BUT I APPRECIATE THAT YOU ALSO RECOGNIZE THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM. THE DISPLAY SCREEN IN FRONT OF THE DRIVER FLASHED ON AND OFF FOR AROUND 10-20 MINUTES. WHILE THE SCREEN WAS FLASHING ON AND OFF, THE BUTTONS ON THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD NOT CHANGE ANY OF THE MENU SCREENS. I TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT BECAUSE IT WAS A SOFT CODE AND NOT A HARD CODE, THEY WOULD NOT DO ANYTHING.

BOTH THE JERKING FORWARD AND THE SHUTOFF WHILE DRIVING COULD HAVE CAUSED A HORRIBLE ACCIDENT BUT FORTUNATELY WE WERE LUCKY. THE STREET WAS A CITY STREET, IT WAS A VERY WET ENVIRONMENT, AND I WAS GOING STRAIGHT. TRAFFIC WAS STOP AND GO SO THE CAR SPEED NEVER WAS HIGHER THAN ABOUT 20MPH. ALL EVENTS OCCURRED WHILE SUV WAS IN MOTION. ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON. TOOK CAR IN FOR SERVICE. THEY SAID NOTHING IS CURRENTLY A REPORTED ISSUE DURING THE DTC STATUS CHECK BUT THERE WAS A "HISTORY" OF "LIN BUS 14 LOST COMMUNICATION WITH DEVICE", AND A FEW REPORTS REGARDING INTAKE CAMSHAFT AND EXHAUST CAMSHAFT ISSUES. HAVE NOT HEARD THE DEALER'S ASSESSMENT YET.

ONE AGENT SAID THEY REBOOTED THE PHONE CHARGER WHEN I PICKED IT UP THE OTHER TOLD ME THEY DID NOTHING AS THE WAS NO PROBLEM WITH IT. ABOUT A FEW WEEKS LATER THE CAR ALARM STARTS GOING OFF RANDOMLY WITH IT ST OR NOT SET AND THE DRIVER MIRRORS DOORS NOT DEFROST. AGAIN I GOT THE OH NOTHING IS WRONG WITH IT IT IS FINE HEY STILL ALARM GOES OFF WITH OUR WITH OUT ALARM SET.

THEN STARTING IN DECEMBER, WHILE TRAVELLING OUT OF TOWN, IT PERSISTED EVERY TIME WE DROVE IT. IT ALSO WOULD LOSE POWER OR SOMETHING STRANGE WHEN PUTTING IT IN GEAR AFTER BACKING OUT OF OUR DRIVEWAY. WE WOULD ACCELERATE FOR A SHORT DISTANCE WHEN THE RPM'S WOULD REV-UP TO 6-7,000 RPM BUT THE CAR WOULDN'T GO. IT WAS ALMOST AS IF IT WOULD SLIP ITSELF INTO NEUTRAL WHILE GOING DOWN THE ROAD. WE HAVE TAKEN THE CAR IN 4 DIFFERENT TIMES FOR REPAIR AND THE PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN FIXED. THE CAR ALSO TURNS ITSELF OFF. THE PANEL GOES BLACK. WHEN WE START HEARING A LOUD RUMBLING NOISE WHILE SITTING IN NEUTRAL AT A FAST FOOD DRIVE THRU OR RED LIGHT WE TURN THE AIR CONDITIONING OFF TO TRY AND HEAR THE NOISE BETTER AND THE CAR DIES AND THE PANEL GOES BLACK. WE HAVE HAD TO ACTUALLY RE-START THE CAR. WE ARE EXTREMELY CONCERNED FOR THE SAFETY OF THIS VEHICLE AND ARE RETURNING IT DO THE DEALERSHIP TOMORROW FOR OUR FINAL TIME. THEY HAVE BEEN GIVEN NUMEROUS OPPORTUNITIES TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM AND THINGS ARE ACTUALLY GETTING WORSE. THIS IS SUCH A SHAME BECAUSE WE WERE SO EXCITED ABOUT OUR NEW CAR. WE LIVE ON A VERY BUSY ROAD WHERE VEHICLES AND 18 WHEELERS CAN GO IN EXCESS OF 70 MILES AN HOUR AND I AM AFRAID TO PULL OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY WITH THIS CAR. WE HAVE EVEN COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WHEN IT LOOSES POWER TO AVOID BEING HIT FROM BEHIND. THE DEALERSHIP WOULDN'T EVEN START REPAIRS UNTIL THEY COULD DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. FINALLY A MECHANIC ROAD WITH US AND WITNESSED THE NOISE BUT THEY HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO "DUPLICATE" THE SLIPPING OUT OF GEAR TYPE PROBLEMS. SINCE IT IS HAPPENING REGULARLY NOW, MAYBE THEN CAN SEE FOR THEMSELVES. IT HAS TRULY BECOME A SERIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM.
