ome customers may complain of a rattle or exhaust noise, a CEL/MIL on, or repeat concerns of lean codes or converter failures. The cause for these concerns could be a broken or poor weld with lack of penetration on the Bank 2 exhaust. Issue is exact same as listed in Bulletin PIP5681A

Oct 28, 2025

Exhaust pipe bracket that is welded to both exhaust pipes broke off allowing firewall side catalytic converter pipe to crack near the head of the engine.

For the past few months now my 2018 Chevy Traverse has had a weird shimmy when changing lower gears. Got it looked at and they said one of the 9 clutches are going out and needs to be replaced for a total of $6664.63. After doing my own research, this is a common problem with the 2018 Chevy Traverse after reading all the complaints on Social Media and a few Chevy enthusiasts websites. I’ve called the dealership and they refuse to help out at all with the pricing or do anything without a recall issued. If I’d had to calculate the amount of cars effected that already had work done and cars that haven’t had work done yet due to the insane cost, I’d say at least 30-40% of these vehicles have these issues right now that people know about or have already had fixed. The transmission place I sent our vehicle to said he does work on all these Chevys constantly with the same issue. I tried to call corporate and they gave me this site to go ahead and log a safety concern about this problem because it truly is a safety concern. The constant shim and rough feel when switching between lower gears makes it difficult when needing to pull out into traffic unless your lucky enough to get no traffic in your lane. I’ve also noted the start stop problem when it starts back up at a red light it sometimes has issues shifting in between 2nd, 3rd, & 4th gear like it doesn’t want to do it in that order. Feels more like it wants to skip 2nd and 3rd gear which may be fine but it definitely has a shimmy/ grinding feeling. Not sure if the transmission clutch can cause all these problems but after witnessing these issues, I’m definitely rethinking purchasing Silverado 2500’s for my family owned plumbing business. Thank you and hopefully this helps.

The contact owns a 2018 Chevrolet Traverse. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the check engine warning light remained illuminated, and the vehicle hesitated while accelerating. Additionally, the vehicle failed to immediately restart after refueling. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, who diagnosed and determined that the purge valve was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The contact stated that the purge valve was replaced on two previous occasions. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 55,000.

I purchased a 2018 Chevy Traverse with 6 miles on it. I keep my vehicle in mint condition and maintenance as needed and required. Recently in the past few months my car has been bucking when shifting gear engages in an automatic transmission. I took to dealership, and they stated it was the torque converter, and my vehicle has exactly 20,270 miles only. Not even passed the 36,000 marks but over 36 months. I bought an extended warranty thru Dealership which now sending someone to dealership to verify that this is infact a torque problem which were found 2017 and 2019 but not 2018 is hard to believe. They will be keeping it for 7 days and already had a recall for 2017 and 2019 so are they stating it only occurred in those years, and they fix the 2017 but then it skipped 2018 and jumped to 2019. Why have I not received any recalls since I buy most of the GMC vehicles and lived in the same home for 35 years. Its awfully strange that I never receive any recalls when I owned Silverado truck, Savana High Top Van with special needs lift, Pontiac Torrent, Chevy Traverse. The warning lane change or the blindspot warning shut off too. Was told to wash the window on the front and on the camera back and did not clear the sensors. Was told to check transmission fluid and it was fine and I do oil changes since my dad taught us every 2500 -3000 depending on driving and if only little mileage check it anyway monthly with the dip stick. Like I stated I keep my car in mint condition and safety is number one issue in family due to the special needs son riding in it.

The contact called on behalf of a customer who owns a 2018 Chevrolet Traverse. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, the customer noticed a huge oil leak on the ground where the vehicle had been parked. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed with a failed low-pressure oil sensor. The contact stated that the low-pressure sensor had separated. The customer was informed that the low-pressure oil sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was being repaired. The contact stated that it was the second similar vehicle that was recently repaired for the same failure, with low mileage on the vehicles. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 63,000.

My 2018 Chevy traverse has a shift to park warning that continues to come on. It makes the vehicle not lock or park and you have to wait till it goes off. Sometimes it takes restarting the car and turning it off again before it will turn off. this seems to be a known problem when you look it up that 2018-2019 traverse are experiencing this. This should be a national recall for those years specifically.

Sep 30, 2025

My car has twice been fixed with this shift to park message and now it is in the shop once again to be fixed!! And this has also had the torque converter fixed twice now. And it is still doing the same issues. This needs to be something that Chevy is replacing. I am a single mother and can’t afford all these problems and yet I keep having to make a car payment and get these things fixed.

Sep 28, 2025

MAF sensor went bad on my 18 to traverse. I was told not to change the sensor that it was the manifold. Two days later I'm being told that my transmission is bad. I am in process now if getting it rebuilt. Needless to say I'm out a lot of money.

Aug 13, 2025

The vehicle has a design flaw which causes a bracket which connects the 2 pipes which connect to the catalytic converter to fail. Once the bracket has failed, the rear catalytic converter is allowed to vibrate more than designed, adding extra stress to the catalytic converter. Over time, this additional stress causes the catalytic converter to fail, releasing harmful gases directly from the engine exhaust manifold with carbon monoxide and other harmful gases into the air and into the passenger compartment of the vehicle. This is a know issue that GM has recalled on the 2019 (recall N212356540) and 2021 (recall N222385510) model year Traverse. Other years may have also been recalled that I am not aware of. For some reason, GM has neglected to take ownership of this issue on the 2018 Traverse which shares the same design as both the 2019 and 2021 model years. I have gone to the dealership and contact Chevrolet's customer service multiple times and they refuse to reimburse me for the cost of the necessary repairs. I have already purchased the broken and necessary, ancillary components and repaired the vehicle myself because I did not want to pay the dealership over $2000 in labor which they quoted me.

Jul 5, 2025

Engine light- shifting rough, steering wheel shakes. I took it in to get checked, they replaced something for the emissions. Then told I need a twerk converter. Another place didn’t recommend that & I was told needs a new transmission. I have only had my vehicle 4 years and have kept it well maintenanced.

The contact owns a 2018 Chevrolet Traverse. The contact stated while his daughter driving at an undisclosed speed and attempting to stop at a traffic light, the vehicle lost automotive power. No warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that a dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the hazard lights were also inoperable. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or an independent mechanic to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and opened a case. The contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 108,316.

I have an exhaust issue with my 2018 Traverse that a Chevrolet/GM refuses to cover. I am getting check engine light that points to a leaking exhaust. The cause for these concerns could be a broken or poor weld with lack of penetration on the Bank 2 exhaust flex pipe bracket. It's a known GM issue on the 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022 models. GM has a safety bulletin PIP5681 and PIP5681A for this issue. N222385510 is the number for the 2021 recall. The dealership said it will not cover the repair because my vin has no associated recall. GM allowed the repair of the 2020 under the same recall number. This should be covered under Exhaust Warranty.

Metal found in transmission and new transmission needed. 2018 Chevy Traverse

Apr 16, 2025

2018 Traverse. 70k miles. We purchased it brand new at the end of 2017. On [XXX], we were driving home from Michigan the car sputtered and would not accelerate. We were almost hit by a semi that was driving behind us. We were able to pull into a gas station and put the car in park. While sitting at gas station the car shut off and wouldn't restart. No warning lights came on prior to the vehicle shutting down. We had it towed to our mechanic (VIP Automotive- New Lenox, Illinois). The mechanic went through the car and advised that the engine had seized. All fluid levels were fine, no leaks, all scheduled maintenance completed on time. He found metal chunks- not just shavings- in the oil pan. He said he's never seen anything like this and that the catastrophic engine failure had to be due to a defect in the engine. It ended up costing us almost $6,000 to have another motor installed in the car. I contacted Chevy, and was basically told too bad, and that they would not cover or assist with anything. The car was extremely well maintained and I provided a copy of all service records dating back to 2017 when we purchased the car. There are numerous groups on Facebook that have same/similar complaints on the Chevy Traverse (3.6L V6) and Chevy Trucks/SUVs (6.2L V8). I believe they are aware that there are numerous issues with these vehicles and continue to sell them, despite the risk to consumer safety. The contact owns a 2018 Chevrolet Traverse. The contact stated while the vehicle was parked, the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the emissions purge valve needed to be replaced. The contact did research and was made aware of Technical Service Bulletin Number: N232395300 however, the VIN was not included. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.

The issue is with the Traverse Stabilitrak system. The Stabilitrak system controls, includes traction control, emergency brakes, tire monitoring, etc. as I understand it. The Stabilitrak lights has been intermittently coming on for several months. I took the truck to the manufacture and was charged over $1,700.00 to fix the problem. After the repairs, I picked up the vehicle and within three miles of the dealership the issue manifested itself again. The Stabiltrak system light usually indicates as the vehicle waits at a traffic light, and just as I accelerate for the signal change. The vehicle frequently stalls at that point, creating a rear end hazard, and a dangerous situation for me and other commuters. Upon returning the vehicle to the dealership, they claimed not to be able to identify the issue, that they initially charged me over $1,700.00 to fix. The said they could not recreate the problem, although it is a persistent problem that occurs within minutes of the vehicle operation.

When putting my car in park and shutting off. My traverse says warning shift to park when I am clearly in park. I cannot lock my doors and horn beeps. It continues to ding with warning!

Aug 26, 2024

The car will not turn off 85% of the time. When I put it in park and hit the start/stop engine button the vehicle does not turn off. It shows a message "Shift to Park" but it's in park.

Aug 26, 2024

bracket on the exhaust flex pipe bracket broke. This is a known issue by GM (PIP5681C) that covers 2018-2022 Chevy Traverse and Special Coverage notices have been issued for at least the 2019 (N212356540) and 2021 (N222385510). I called GM today and they said my 2018 Traverse would not be covered even though it is a known issue and had a bulletin issued on it. If this is a known issue for several years (including 2018), why wouldn't the 2018 model be included and covered?

The contact owns a 2018 Chevrolet Traverse. The contact stated that the driver’s side taillight was blown due to water entering the taillight assembly. While driving approximately 40-45 MPH, the battery failure warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the following day while driving approximately 40-45 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power. The battery warning light remained illuminated along with the check engine warning light. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 45,700.

The exhaust system mount bracket broken allowing exhaust system movement resulting in a cracked catalytic converter . The mount bracket broke due to a poor weld from the part supplier. The repair cost $2404.74 on 6/5/2023 at 33.953 miles . Recently I researched this issue and found GM policy # N212356540 on 2019 Chevrolet Traverse and Buick Enclave with exact same issue with coverage to 150,000 miles. My research also found that many other owners of 2018 Traverse complaining about the exact same issue with very similar costs. This obvious emission item should have been covered. l

Feb 13, 2024

My vehicle was getting a check engine code #P0420, took to my GM dealer for service on [XXX]. RK Chevrolet in Virginia Beach, VA. Was told the error was caused by the mounting bracket on the front exhaust pipe had separated from the pipe, resulting in a hole in the pipe. They replaced the front exhaust pipe (85542639) and 2 pipe gaskets (84135650) as well as the muffler section of the exhaust. GM has issued a special coverage [XXX] on the 2021 Traverse for these exact part numbers, and are replacing at no cost. But if the same part numbers are failing on the 2018 (and probably 2019 and 2020) shouldn't they be covering all models with these parts. N222385510, the exhaust system separated from the car. There are current recalls from GM for 2019-Current Traverse models with the exact same issue. Our 2018 has the exact same problem and our local GM dealer verified it, but they will not cover this expense. We were quoted $2,000 + for the fix, GM Customer Care has been no help.

"SHIFT TO PARK" WHEN CAR IS ALREADY IN PARK

Jun 3, 2022

Rough starting engine, close to stall while idle and stopped on-road. Check engine light activated. 2016 and 2017 model years of Chevrolet Traverse vehicles were recalled for this exact issue. This condition was covered in: Special Coverage Adjustment N192210240 Evaporative Emissions Purge Valve Replacement. Our experience shows that this recall may not have covered the entirety of this issue. It is ironic that we experienced this exact same problem in a 2018 Chevrolet Traverse. The GM dealership charged us >$300 to repair. The recall covering the immediately previous model year extended warranty and offered free replacement. I am reaching out to NHSTA to make them aware of the issue with the Purge Valve in the 2018 model year Traverse. I contacted GM and they were not able to help, other than stating the original recall did not cover 2018 model years. We believe that it should also cover the 2018 model year based on our experience.

On June 29, 2021 Unable to turn off vehicle/engine. Started approximately 1 week before on 2 occasions where I finally was able to shut off vehicle. I called dealership/service to get an appointment, but had to go in immediately because it would no longer turn off. Repair was not covered under warranty which was only 4 months past the 3 year warranty and mileage was only 27,637. It cost me just under $450 to repair this. Service advisor at Classic Chevy in Grapevine, TX commented that they had been seeing this problem which they diagnosed as INTERNAL SHIFTER FAULT. (A C/S SHIFT TO PARK MESSAGE COMES ON CLUSTER is noted on the repair invoice.) This was unnerving at the very least, and safety risk. Is this problem under any recall or potential recall?

The contact stated that the vehicle then restarted on its own with the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who determined that no issues were found however, the computer system was reset. The contact stated the failure reoccurred while making a left turn at a stoplight. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer who was unable to duplicate the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The failure mileage was 21,685. Consumer stated vehicle has been in the shop for 6 months and still in the shop.

WHEN SHIFTING INTO PARK AND ATTEMPTING TO TURN OFF THE CAR, 80% OF THE TIME THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT REGISTER THAT THE CAR WAS IN PARK AND ALLOW THE VEHICLE TO TURN OFF. IT WOULD ALARM & CHARM WITH A MESSAGE TO "SHIFT TO PARK". THIS IS A KNOWN MANUFACTURING ISSUES WITH THE CHEVROLET TRAVERSE, GMC ACADIAS, AND POSSIBLY OTHER MODELS OF CHEVY/GMC. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN AS THERE IS NO WAY TO KNOW IF THE VEHICLE IS TRULY IN PARK AND CAN LEAVE YOU IN SCARY SITUATIONS WHEN YOU CANNOT TURN OFF THE CAR. WE HAVE ALSO BEEN STRANDED WITH A DEAD BATTERY BECAUSE THE "SHIFT TO PARK" CHIME AND MESSAGE DRAINED THE BATTERY. CHEVROLET HAS PROVIDED THEIR DEALERSHIPS WITH BULLETINS IN HOW TO ADD A JUMPER HARNESS AND ADD/REPLACE A SWITCH IN THE GEAR SHIFT ASSEMBLY TO CORRECT THE ISSUE, BUT REFUSE TO TAKE ACCOUNTABILITY. I HAVE HAD MULTIPLE SERVICE ADVISORS ADMIT THEY HAVE HAD TO FIX NUMEROUS GEAR SHIFTERS AND THAT THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE. A RECALL NEEDS TO BE ISSUED ON THIS PROBLEM AS IT IS A SAFETY CONCERN FOR ANYONE AFFECTED. PLEASE ADDRESS! I AM INCLUDING MY RECEIPT ON THE SERVICE I HAD TO PAY FOR TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. ALSO AN EXAMPLE OF ONE OF THE TECHNICAL BULLETINS CHEVROLET HAS SENT THEIR SERVICE DEPARTMENT.

PURCHASED A YEAR AGO IN FL. MY WINDSHIELD CAME LOOSE TWICE ALREADY WHERE YOU CAN SEE THE PADDING IN THE DASHBOARD AREA AGAIN. THE TIRE ON DRIVER SIDE HAS TO HAVE AIR IN IT SEVERAL TIMES AFTER DRIVING ABOUT 20 MINS. PRESSURE KEEPS READING AT 26 AND ALARM GOING OFF WITH THE PROBLEM. HUSBAND REFILLS AND THREE DAYS LATER I MOVE THE VEHICLE AND IT HAPPENS AGAIN. WINDSHIELD YOU CAN HEAR AIR LEAKING FROM IT. SEVERAL TIMES WHEN I STARTED MY CAR IT HAD A WEIRD ENGINE NOISE LOUD ACCELERATION EVEN WHEN SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY. I READ NO RECALLS BUT POSSIBLE CLASS ACTION PENDING IF YOU REFUSE TO FIX THE VEHICLES. I WILL BE OVER 36 MONTHS BEFORE MY CAR REACHES 30K MILES. I DRIVE TO AND FROM DOCTORS, GROCERY SHOPPING. SHIFT TO PARK ERROR MESSAGE WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN PARK. THIS PREVENTS TURNING THE VECHICLE OFF, LOCKING THE DOORS, ETC. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN WELL DOCUMENTED ON SEVERAL THOUSAND VEHICLES. HOWEVER, GM HAS ONLY QUIETLY FIXED PROBLEM CASE BY CASE AND WILL NOT COVER UNDER POWER TRAIN WARRANTY. A NATIONAL RECALL SHOULD BE ISSUED ASAP TO FIX AND REPLACE THE SHIFTER. POSES A SAFETY ISSUE AS WELL SINCE IT INVOLVES A FAULTY GEAR SHIFTER.

ON OCTOBER 1, 2018 I PURCHASED A NEW TRAVERSE FROM KELLEY CHEVROLET OF FORT WAYNE INDIANA. MY QUESTION IS CAN THE AUTO STOP ON MY NEW 2018 CHEVROLET TRAVERSE BE DISABLED. I JUST HAD A CLOSE CALL INVOLVING THE AUTO STOP. I WAS IN BRANSON MO ON VACATION AND THIS PLACE IS BUILT ON HILLS AND MORE HILLS. I HAD COME TO A STOP ON A HILLSIDE AND THE CAR WENT TO AUTO STOP. WHEN I LIFTED MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE SO AUTO STOP WOULD NOT BE ENGAGED THE ENGINE STOPPED. I HAD NO BRAKES OR STEERING OF THE VEHICLE AND IT STARTED ROLLING BACKWARD ' THANK GOODNESS THERE WERE NO CARS BEHIND ME. THE VEHICLE WAS ROLLING TOWARD A VERY STEEP HILL ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND WITH NO BRAKES I COULD NOT STOP. INSTEAD I PULLED HARD ON THE STEERING WHEEL AND GOT IT CROSSWISE STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. IT TOOK ME SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE I COULD GET THE ENGINE STARTED. AUTO STOP IS A PAIN IN THE BUTT AND THIS SCARED THE DICKENS OUT OF ME. CAN IT BE REPROGRAMMED TO NOT WORK?

VEHICLE WAS STOPPED ON A STEEP CITY STREET BEHIND ANOTHER VEHICLE TURNING LEFT. VEHICLE WENT TO MOVE FORWARD AND TURN LEFT AND IT SHUT OFF AND ROLLED BACKWARDS DOWN THE STEEP HILL. WHEEL COULD NOT BE TURNED, BRAKES COULD NOT BE PRESSED, WHEN GAS WAS PRESSED IT DID NOT GO FORWARD, IT ROLLED BACKWARDS IT WAS LIKE IT SHUT OFF AFTER BEING IN AUTO STOP MODE. PARKING BRAKE ASSIST CAME ON AUTOMATICALLY AND VEHICLE ROLLED INTO A CEMENT POLE. VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE RESTARTED. PARKING BRAKE WOULD NOT RELEASE. HAD TO SHUT OFF VEHICLE, RESTART AND TRIED TO RELEASE PARKING BRAKE 5 MORE TIMES BEFORE IT RELEASED. THIS VEHICLE OFTEN ROLLS BACKWARDS AFTER BEING IN AUTO STOP MODE AND THE GAS NEEDS TO BE PUSHED HARD IN ORDER FOR IT TO GO FORWARD. THIS VEHICLE FEELS LIKE IT SLOWS DOWN WHEN PRESSING THE GAS AT TIMES AND YOU NEED TO PUSH THE GAS PEDAL HARDER. THE BRAKES SQUEAK OFTEN WHEN WET AND COLD AND SOMETIMES WHEN STARTING THE VEHICLE THE BRAKE WILL NOT ALLOW YOU TO PUSH IT DOWN, YOU HAVE TO PUSH IT SEVERAL TIMES, LET UP AND PUSH IT AGAIN BEFORE THE VEHICLE WILL START.

2018 CHEVY TRAVERSE WHEN DECELERATING AROUND SPEEDS UNDER 35MPH CITY DRIVING THE VEHICLE WILL RANDOMLY REV UP AND THE RPM WILL GO UP TO 4000 OR 5000 RPM, THIS ALSO HAPPENS WHILE BRAKING. SOMETIMES THE CAR WILL JERK FORWARD AS IF IT WAS GOING TO ACCELERATE AND OTHER TIMES IT JUST STAYS AT A HIGH RPM FOR 5 SECONDS OR LESS UNTIL I EITHER COME TO A COMPLETE STOP OR TRY TO ACCELERATE AND IT DOES NOT RESPOND. THE ENGINE SOUNDS LIKE IT IS IN NEUTRAL AND THE ACCELERATOR IS BEING HELD DOWN. IT ALSO DOES NOT RESPOND TO THE GAS PEDAL WHEN IT IS REVING LIKE THIS, AND IF I TRY TO ACCELERATE THE CAR WILL EVENTUALLY KICK INTO GEAR AND LUNGE FORWARD. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER WITHING THE FIRST FEW MONTHS OF OWNING IT AND THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE ISSUE AND SAID THE COMPUTER DID NOT RETURN ANY ISSUE. THIS PROBLEM COMES AND GOES SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR BRAND NEW IN 2018 AND CONCERNS ME, BECAUSE IT FEELS AS IF THE CAR IS ACCELERATING ON ITS OWN AND MAY CAUSE ME TO CRASH.

THE CAR DOES NOT REGISTER WHEN THE CAR IS IN PARK AFTER I TURN IT OFF. IT READS 'SHIFT TO PARK' AND I HAVE TO SPEND SEVERAL MINUTES JIGGLING THE SHIFTER OR RESTARTING THE CAR AND GOING THROUGH DIFFERENT GEARS. IT IS A VERY BIG INCONVENIENCE. I TOOK IT TO THE REPAIR SHOP AS IT STARTED RIGHT AFTER THE WARRANTY RAN OUT. THEY SAID EITHER THE SHIFTER NEEDS TO BE REPLACED OR THE GEARBOX VIA A CONVERSATION THEY HAD WITH SOMEONE THEY HAD AT CHEVY. THEY WERE TOLD CHEVY AND GMC ARE AWARE OF IT BEING A PROBLEM BUT IT'S NOT ON A RECALL LEVEL YET.

I HAVE HAD ISSUES WITH MY 2018 TRAVERSE SINCE DECEMBER. THE PROBLEM STARTED AROUND 9,000 MILES. I TOOK MY VEHICLE INTO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE ISSUE. I WOULD PUT THE VEHICLE IN DRIVE AND THE "D" LIGHT WOULD BLINK BUT THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE. IN MARCH AFTER SEVERAL TRIPS TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY FINALLY REPAIRED THE VEHICLE. THEY REMOVED THE TRANSMISSION AND REPLACED A SENSOR. THE VEHICLE DID NOT HAVE ANY ISSUES UNTIL JULY 23RD WHEN DRIVING ON A CITY ROAD THE CAR GOT STUCK IN FIRST GEAR. I WAS PUSHING THE GAS PEDAL AND THE CAR WOULD NOT GO OVER 20 MPH. I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN AND THEY REPLACED THE TCM AND SOLENOID SENSOR. I PICKED UP THE VEHICLE ON 8/8 ONLY TO RETURN ON 8/15 WHEN THE CAR STALLED AND JERKED WHILE I WAS DRIVING. ON 8/16 I SPOKE WITH THE DEALERSHIP WHO INFORMED ME CHEVROLET ADVISED THEM TO CLEAR THE CODE AND RETURN THE VEHICLE TO ME. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE TO THEM AND THE ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT IS WORKING ON FIGURING OUT THE PROBLEM. AS OF 8/18/2019 THIS VEHICLE HAS SPENT 47 DAYS IN THE SHOP FOR REPAIRS AND HAS 10 REPAIR ORDERS.

AT WHICH POINT THE VEHICLE KEEPS ALL LIGHTS ON THE INSIDE AND OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE ILLUMINATED, THE AC STAYS ON, THE RADIO/ENTERTAINMENT DISPLAY STAYS ON, IN ADDITION TO A WARNING BEEP/CHIME THAT IS TYPICAL WHEN THE VEHICLE IS LEFT "ON" AND YOU OPEN THE DOOR. IN OTHER WORDS, OUR VEHICLE STILL THINKS IT IS "ON" AND "IN" GEAR. IN THE BEGINNING IT WOULD TAKE 2-5 TIMES OF TURNING THE VEHICLE BACK ON AND OFF IN ORDER FOR THE WARNING TO GO AWAY AND THE VEHICLE TO SHUT-OFF PROPERLY. NOW, IT WILL NO LONGER SHUT-OFF REGARDLESS OF HOW MANY TIMES THE ENGINE IS RESTARTED AND THE STICK-SHIFT IS MOVED OUT OF PARK & BACK. HAVE RESORTED TO UNPLUGGING THE BATTERY EVERY TIME WE EXIT THE VEHICLE TO KEEP IT FROM BEING DRAINED. THE VEHICLE HAS ALSO NOT RE-STARTED AT ALL(TAKING 15 MINUTES OF RE-ENGAGING THE STARTER BUTTON AT ITS WORST). LEAVING MY WIFE & TODDLERS STUCK IN 100PLUS DEGREE HEAT. WHEN IT DOES NOT RE-START, THE DASH DISPLAY READS THE VEHICLE AT "0 MPH" AND ALLOWS THE GEARS TO BE SHIFTED. THERE ARE NUMEROUS OTHER PEOPLE ONLINE STATING SIMILAR ISSUES. SOME HAVE RESOLVED WITH A CHANGE OF THE SHIFTER MECHANISM, & OTHERS STILL WITH CONTINUED ISSUES AFTER THAT. THE DEALERSHIP STATED THERE IS ONLY 1 PART LEFT IN TOWN, AND THAT IT IS ON BACK-ORDER AND THEY CAN'T GET IT FROM THE MANUFACTURER(THEY TRIED THEIR TWO NATIONWIDE WAREHOUSE LOCATIONS). NOT ONLY THAT, THE DEALERSHIP SAID WE NEEDED TO LEAVE THE VEHICLE WITH THEM AND THEY WOULD NOT EVEN "LOOK AT IT" FOR UP TO 1.5 WEEKS, AND THAT THEY WERE OUT OF LOANER VEHICLES. THE VEHICLE IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY, AND WAS PURCHASED CERTIFIED-USED. NOTHING HAS OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE OR WHEN STOPPED AT A LIGHT/STOP-SIGN, BUT WE CERTAINLY DON'T WANT TO FIND OUT WHAT "COULD" HAPPEN.

I WAS DRIVING MY CAR, STRAIGHT, DOWN OUR ROAD AT ABOUT 40 MPH WHEN THE CAR SUDDENLY STARTED TO SHUDDER, LOOSE POWER AND THEN THEN ENGINE STALLED (LOST STEERING ABILITY AND ENGINE PROPULSION). IF THIS HAD HAPPENED AT A BUSY INTERSECTION, WHILE MAKING A LEFT HANDE TURN, IT COULD HAVE BEEN FATAL.

DRIVING LATE AT NIGHT WITH FAMILY DOWN A STATE HIGHWAY/CITY STREET WITH SOME STOPLIGHTS AND ROTARY, VEHICLE SUDDENLY SEEMS TO BE INTERMITTENTLY LOSING POWER OR TRANSMISSION SLIPPING WHEN DRIVING. WHEN GIVING GAS ENTERING ROTARY, INTERMITTENT SLIPPING/POWER LOSS (LIKE A SKIPPING POWER/SLIPPING TRANSMISSION) WORSENED - FELT GREATER LOSS OF POWER AND FOR SLIGHTLY LONGER PERIODS. NOTED ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. WORSENING INTERMITTENT POWER FAILURE/SLIPPING/HESITATION/JERKING CONTINUED WHEN GIVING GAS TO ENGINE FOR ~1/4 MILE UNTIL PULLED INTO SHOPPING MALL PARKING LOT. FELT LUCKY TO BE ABLE TO REACH LOT, CALLED FOR FLATBED TOW TO DEALER. DEALER HAD VEHICLE FOR 1 WEEK, AND WHEN ASSESSMENT COMPLETE, REPORTED DTC P0011, P0014, P0021 AND P0024 CAM CODES. THEY VISUALLY INSPECTED WITH NO CONCERNS, TEST ACTUATOR SYSTEM OPERATING. SEARCH FOR BULLETINS REVEALED DOCUMENT 5251270 WITH NO REPAIR YET FOR ANOMALY, WHICH DESCRIBES "SOME CUSTOMERS MAY COMMENT THAT THE SES [SERVICE ENGINE SOON] LAMP IS ILLUMINATED. THIS LAMP MAY HAVE COME ON BY ITSELF OR IN SOME CASES, THE CUSTOMER MAY EXPERIENCE DRIVABILITY ISSUES SUCH AS A STALL, LURCH, STUMBLE, HESITATION OR POWER LOSS AFTER AN AUTO STOP/RESTART." NOTES TECHNICIAN MAY FIND THE ABOVE LISTED CODES. CAUSE IS LISTED AS "A SOFTWARE ANOMALY THAT ALLOWS THE 'VERIFY SYNC' STATUS TO NOT RESTART AND REACH FULL 'SYNC' WHEN THE ENGINE RESTARTS. THE ECM THEN REPORTS ACTUAL CAM POSITIONS AS '0' WHILE IT CONTINUES TO COMMAND THE ACTUATORS TO MOVE RESULTING IN ENGINE ROUGHNESS AND/OR DRIVABILITY CONCERNS (AS STATED ABOVE) WITH THE POSSIBILITY OF SETTING MULTIPLE CAM PHASER PERFORMANCE DTCS." INSTRUCTIONS ON THE BULLETIN ARE TO CHECK AND CLEAR CODES AND RETURN VEHICLE TO CUSTOMER. BULLETIN CREATED ON 5/7/2018 WITH 5 UPDATES SINCE. BROUGHT VEHICLE BACK TO DEALER DUE TO CONCERNS OF LACK OF FIX AND SAFETY WHEN RECURS, DEALER UNABLE TO REPLICATE.

CAR HAD ABOUT 10000 MILES AND IN TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS HAS STALLED, STEERING WHEEL HAD STOP WORKING, COULDN'T STEER, CAR TURNS OFF WHEN STOPPED AT TRAFFIC LIGHTS, ALRMS GO OFF AND DEALER JUST SAYS THEY CAN ONLY REPROGRAM THE COMPUTER, NO REPAIRS AVAILABLE. ON A THIRD TIME BRAKING SYSTEM ALARMS WENT OFF AND DEALER HAD TO REPLACE THE BRAKING SYSTEM. VEHICLE HAS ALWAYS FAILED WHILE IN MOTION. DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WILL BE RESPONSIBLE IF SOMEONE GETS HURT BECAUSE THIS CAR DOES NOT FUNCTION AS IT SHOULD.

IN EARLY APRIL 2019, APPROXIMATELY THE FIRST WEEK OF APRIL, I WAS DRIVING THE TRAVERSE ON A HILL AND STOPPED AT A STOP LIGHT. WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN, I ATTEMPTED TO STEP ON THE GAS AND PULL FORWARD, BUT THE CAR ROLLED BACKWARDS. I LOOKED DOWN TO SEE IF I WAS IN REVERSE, BUT THE CAR WAS IN DRIVE. THIS SPECIFIC INCIDENT OCCURRED A TOTAL OF TWO TIMES. ON APRIL 23, 2019 AROUND 9:40 AM I WAS DRIVING AND MY CAR STALLED MULTIPLE TIMES DURING THIS TRIP. I WAS NOT SURE IF THE CAR WAS GOING TO MAKE IT TO MY FINAL DESTINATION. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. ON APRIL 24, I RECEIVED A CALL FROM THE DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED ME THAT THE CAR SHOWED 4 'CODES'. P0011 'A' CAMSHAFT POSITION ' TIMING OVER-ADVANCED OR SYSTEM PERFORMANCE BANK 1 P0014 'B' CAMSHAFT POSITION ' TIMING OVER-ADVANCED OR SYSTEM PERFORMANCE BANK 1 P0021 'A' CAMSHAFT POSITION ' TIMING OVER-ADVANCED OR SYSTEM PERFORMANCE BANK 2 P0024 'B' CAMSHAFT POSITION ' TIMING OVER-ADVANCED OR SYSTEM PERFORMANCE BANK 2 THESE CODES REPRESENTED A SOFTWARE PROBLEM RELATED TO THE ENGINE. TIM INFORMED ME THAT ACCORDING TO THE GM BULLETIN (PIP5568E OR DOCUMENT ID# 5251270), THE RECOMMENDATION IS TO DELETE THE CODES AND THAT THERE IS NOT A SOFTWARE SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM AT THIS TIME. THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED ME THAT BECAUSE OF THE SEVERITY OF THE SYMPTOMS I WAS EXPERIENCING RELATED TO THE CODES HE DID NOT FEEL COMFORTABLE WITH THE RECOMMENDATION FROM THE GM BULLETIN AND HE WOULD BE ESCALATING THE ISSUE TO THE GM DISTRICT MANAGER. THE ULTIMATE RESULT IS THAT THEY WANT TO DELETE THE CODES AND HAVE ME COME PICK UP THE CAR AS THERE IS NO SOLUTION TO THE ISSUE AT THIS TIME.

ON A NORMAL SUNNY AFTERNOON AFTER ABOUT DRIVING FOR 20 OR SO MILES, WE WERE APPROACHING A RED LIGHT IN A LINE OF TRAFFIC AT A BUSY INTERSECTION, THE VEHICLE APPEARED TO START SLIGHTLY JERKING AS I WAS COMING TO A STOP. ONCE STOPPED THE STOP/START FUNCTION OPERATED. UPON RELEASING THE BRAKE TO ACCELERATE THRU THE INTERSECTION THE VEHICLE STARTED JERKING AND LURCHING UNCONTROLLABLY THEN SHUT DOWN COMPLETELY, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WENT DARK. I COULD NOT GET THE CAR OUT OF THE LINE OF HEAVY TRAFFIC, I HAD TO PUT IT IN PARK RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD AND TRY THE START BUTTON. THANKFULLY THE VEHICLE STARTED, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND STAYED ON BUT THE VEHICLE APPEARED TO BE RUNNING NORMAL AGAIN AND WE WERE ABLE TO PROCEED. THIS WAS VERY UPSETTING AND DANGEROUS AS IT OCCURRED IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AT AN INTERSECTION. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP THE NEXT DAY (I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE USED 2 WEEKS PRIOR, THIS WAS ONLY MY 2ND TIME DRIVING IT AND I HAD ONLY PUT 70 MILES ON IT IN THE 2 WEEKS I HAD IT). THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS APPROX. 25,600. THE HARD CODE THE DEALER RETRIEVED NOTED A CAMSHAFT SENSOR ISSUE. THE SENSOR WAS NOTREPLACED, I WAS TOLD THAT GM IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND WOULD BE ISSUING A RECALL BUT THEY ARE NOT SURE WHEN. THEY SAID IT WAS A COMPUTER PROGRAM ISSUE. I AM VERY CONCERNED FOR OUR SAFETY WHILE OPERATING THIS VEHICLE AS THEY SAID THE ISSUE MAY OR MAY NOT HAPPEN AGAIN. ONSTAR SENT ME AN EMAIL NOTIFYING ME THAT MY 2018 CHEV TRAVERSE HAD AND ENGINE/TRANSMISSION ISSUE AND TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER ASAP . THANK YOU ONSTAR, I AM VERY AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND IT WAS ALREADY AT THE DEALER BUT I APPRECIATE THAT YOU ALSO RECOGNIZE THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM. HOPING GM DOES SOMETHING VERY SOON, THIS IS A $50,000 VEHICLE WITH ONLY 25K MILES ON IT AND IT IS NOT SAFE TO OPERATE UNDER THESE CONDITIONS.

THERE ARE 'CONCERNS WITH ALL 4 OR PAIRS OF CAMSHAFT POSITION SYSTEM PERFORMANCE DCTS P0011 P0014 P0021 AND P0024. DEALERSHIP CLEARED CODES AND WE WERE TOLD 'CHANCES ARE IT WON'T HAPPEN AGAIN'

WHILE AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT, THE ENGINE AUTO STOP ENGAGED AS USUAL. HOWEVER, UPON RELEASING THE BRAKE TO PROCEED THROUGH THE INTERSECTION, THE VEHICLE RESTARTED BUT WOULD NOT RUN PROPERLY. THE VEHICLE WOULD LURCH/JERK FORWARD THEN LOSE POWER OVER AND OVER AGAIN. IT FELT LIKE WE WOULD GET WHIPLASHED FROM THE MOVEMENT OF THE VEHICLE. THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. WE WERE ABLE TO MAKE IT OFF OF THE ROAD INTO A PARKING LOT IN ORDER TO CALL THE DEALERSHIP FOR ADVICE. THEY ADVISED TO TURN THE VEHICLE OFF AND RESTART IT IN ORDER TO RESET THE SYSTEMS. WHILE THIS RESTORED THE ABILITY TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAS REMAINED ON AND THE VEHICLE WILL BE GOING INTO THE DEALERSHIP IN 3 DAYS (THE EARLIEST AVAILABLE APPOINTMENT) TO BE EVALUATED.

WHILE DRIVING ON RAINY DAY ABOUT 20 MPH THE ENGINE WOULD ALTERNATE BETWEEN A POWER SURGE TO NO POWER. THIS CONTINUED FOR SEVERAL MINUTES WHILE DRIVING (NOWHERE TO PULL OVER) UNTIL THE ENGINE COMPLETELY DIED. BOTH THE JERKING FORWARD AND THE SHUTOFF WHILE DRIVING COULD HAVE CAUSED A HORRIBLE ACCIDENT BUT FORTUNATELY WE WERE LUCKY. THE STREET WAS A CITY STREET, IT WAS A VERY WET ENVIRONMENT, AND I WAS GOING STRAIGHT. TRAFFIC WAS STOP AND GO SO THE CAR SPEED NEVER WAS HIGHER THAN ABOUT 20MPH. ALL EVENTS OCCURRED WHILE SUV WAS IN MOTION. ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON. TOOK CAR IN FOR SERVICE. THEY SAID NOTHING IS CURRENTLY A REPORTED ISSUE DURING THE DTC STATUS CHECK BUT THERE WAS A "HISTORY" OF "LIN BUS 14 LOST COMMUNICATION WITH DEVICE", AND A FEW REPORTS REGARDING INTAKE CAMSHAFT AND EXHAUST CAMSHAFT ISSUES. HAVE NOT HEARD THE DEALER'S ASSESSMENT YET.

WAS DRIVING FROM NYC TO TORONTO. WE STOPPED 3 HOURS AFTER FOR BATHROOM BREAK AND LUNCH. I DID NOT LEAVE THE CAR THEREFORE THE CAR REMAINED ON. DROVE FOR ANOTHER 2 HOURS AND STOPPED FOR A BATHROOM BREAK AT JUNIUS PONDS TRAVEL PLAZA AROUND 330PM. TURNED OFF THE CAR AND THATS WHEN WE REALIZED WE DROVE WITHOUT THE KEY. THIS IS IN THE MIDDLE OF WINTER WITH CHILDREN IN THE CAR. WE CALLED ONSTAR AND CHEVY BUT THEY COULD NOT ASSIST IN ANYWAY. MY PARENTS HAD TO DRIVE TO US TO GIVE US THEY KEY. IT TOOK THEM OVER 6 HOURS BECAUSE IT WAS RUSH HOUR. IMAGINE 6 HOURS BEING STRANDED WITH KIDS. LUCKILY WE WERE AT A REST STOP WITH FOOD, BATHROOM AND MOST IMPORTANTLY HEAT. IT TURNED OUT WHILE MY HUSBAND WAS BUSY PACKING UP THE CAR, HE HAD SWITCHED INTO HIS WINTER JACKET LEAVING HIS SWEATSHIRT BEHIND WHICH THAT KEYS WERE IN. THE CAR WAS IN PARK IN OUR DRIVEWAY. WE DROVE OFF AND THERE WERE NO NOTIFICATIONS. WE EVEN STOPPED AT STARTBUCKS AND PUT THE CAR IN PARK AGAIN. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE AS THIS WILL MAKE IT EASY FOR THEFT AND RISKS THE SAFETY AND HEALTH OF THE PEOPLE IN THE CAR. CAN YOU IMAGINE IF WE HAD STOPPED AT A PLACE THAT DID NOT HAVE HEAT. ONSTAR ONLY ALLOWS 2 REMOTE ENGINE START THEN IT WILL TELL YOU THAT THE CAR ENGINE HAS TO BE MANUALLY TURNED ON BEFORE USING THE REMOTE START AGAIN. IM NOT TALKING ABOUT IF A CHILD ACCIDENTALLY THROWS THE KEYS OUT THE WINDOW IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY AND THE CAR SHOULD TURN OFF. IM SUGGESTING THAT THE CAR SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO MOVE FROM PARKING IF THE KEY IS NOT IN THE VEHICLE. IMAGINE DRIVING 5 HOURS 300+ MILES AWAY FROM THE KEY AND NO WARNING.
