When I shift my car into park and turn off the engine, an error message appears-"Shift to Park." Although the dashboard displays that the vehicle is in park, the radio and lights remain active & I am unable to turn off my car. To resolve this issue, I must restart the car and cycle through park, reverse, or neutral before attempting to shift back into park again. It often takes multiple attempts to eliminate the error message. My Traverse is currently at the dealership, where I have been informed that it needs a new shifter, which is not covered under warranty. These vehicle is garage kept, one owner & has less than 32k miles on it- I have also discovered that this issue is recognized by GM, with numerous complaints documented on this site alone. Given that this is a widespread problem affecting many owners, it seems unreasonable for us to shoulder the expense of this repair.

Vechicle shudders during acceleration. Especially between 20 - 40 mph's. Checy dealership recommended transmission flush. Problem persists after transmission flush. Torque converter replacement suggested.

When shifting my vehicle into Park, the message “Shift to Park” appears even though the gear lever is already in the Park position. The vehicle does not always recognize that it is in Park, which prevents it from fully shutting off and poses a potential rollaway or battery drain risk. Often the radio/bluetooth components remain on. This issue creates a safety concern when parking, especially on inclines or in public areas and I live on a dangerous steep driveway. The problem was confirmed by Montgomery Chevrolet on October 28, 2024, after I paid $175 for a diagnostic that is not covered under warranty. They verified the “Shift to Park” malfunction and provided a repair estimate of $1,796.55. The vehicle and component are available for inspection upon request with videos and photos of the "shift to park" error log. This began appearing shortly before the dealer visit and has continued since. Video available upon request* Unable to upload

Vehicle will frequently state "Shift To Park" on dashboard when shifter is set to Park. Restarting engine and resetting to Park does not help. Horn and interior bells sound upon exiting the vehicle due to Shift To Park error. Safety issue concern, because I'm use to seeing the error message and ignore it, and what would happen if the shifter was not actually in Park. I took to GMC dealership. The issue as noted by mechanic at dealership is "position switch internally shorting out intermittently in shifter control assembly. Replaced shifter control assembly." I was charged $543.44 for parts and labor. My understanding is that certain Traverse years are known for this problem. I would like a refund from the manufacturer knowing this is a known manufacturer problem.

I have a shift to park issue and GM wants $800 to repair the problem.

Around 65,000 miles I started to get a "Shift to Park" message when I tried to turn off the engine. The car was already in park. This is continuing to happen. I see that it has been an issue on this model since 2016. There needs to be a recall on this issue. You need to be able to turn off your car. Service Bulletins have been sent out but no recall.

Check engine light came on. Chevy traverse lost power and would not shift past 45 miles an hour. Once parked a bad bucking when put into reverse and loss of power or the vehicle would not move and revved as if out of gear despite being put into gear. Had vehicle towed to Hubert Vester Chevrolet in Wilson NC where we purchased it with no remedy because symptoms would not replicate for the two weeks they had the vehicle. We drove it for a week, and the same thing happened again. Bucking started when slowing down. Towed to Phelps Chevrolet Greenville NC with same results of no repair or diagnoses after they kept it for three weeks. Neither dealership would provide a loaner vehicle. Vehicle is under extended drivetrain and bumper to bumper 100,000-mile warranties with no remedy for the issue. We are afraid to drive the vehicle but making payments on it. My personal code reader purchased from Wal-Mart scanned a P2715 Pressure control solenoid D stuck on and P0700 transmission control system. However, the dealerships would not accept the information for repairing the vehicle saying they were showing as past check engine light stored codes. Invoices for both unresolved incidents are attached. Vester applied for changing the transmission fluid with our warranty but unsure if it was completed.

Car will shift into park and dash will say park but it keeps saying shift to park and car will not turn off.

Shift to park error code where vehicle does not turn off and vehicle does not appear to be in park. GM vehicles had this issue in the past and still appear to have this same issue.

Nov 14, 2024

When I shift the vehicle to park to turn it off, I keep getting a warning / error message that I need to "shift to park"; even thought the gear shift is in park. I have to keep repeating the process multiple times in order to exit the vehicle. Most times I have to shift to park, sit and wait upwards of 5 minutes before turning the car off and it registering that it's in park.

When slowing down there is a grinding sound. Everytime i take it to the dealership they say they don't see anything.

Shift to park issue- on a weekly basis shift to park shows up on my vehicle. The only way to fix the issue is reverse multiple times put vehicle in drive and then park hoping the issue will resolve on its own. At times it does not and I have to retry the method on most cases it does resolve after a few minutes but the issue occurs again a few days later. •Vehicle is available for inspection, I have brought my vehicle to the dealership but they won’t fix the issue until I pay for services and I am unable to at this time. •Safety is at risk because If your vehicle is already parked and it still states "shift to park," it could indicate a malfunction in the vehicle's electronic systems also this could potentially lead to unexpected issues, such as the vehicle rolling away if the parking mechanism fails. •This vehicle has been inspected by the dealership during oil changes and they have been made aware of this current issue with the vehicle. •No warring displays besides the notification of shift to park.

Nearly every time I go to turn the power off the screen says "shift to park" but it's in park. The engine turns off and the vehicle SEEMS to be in park, but who knows? Then it keeps "dinging" and won't turn off. When I walk away with the keys it honks at me. I'm assuming it eventually turns off, I've been setting the parking brake. I checked google and lots of people are talking about this issue - I would recommend GM do a recall for this as it's super annoying and potentially a safety issue if the vehicle doesn't know what gear its in.

The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Traverse. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended. The contact noticed minor shaking and unusual sounds coming from the transmission. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the failure could not be duplicated. The failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer. The vehicle was diagnosed with burned transmission parts. The transmission was rebuilt, and the burned parts were replaced. The contact stated that the dealer declined to sign off on the completion of the repair because of the ongoing failures with the vehicle. In addition, the contact stated that the transmission had been flushed and upgraded several days prior to the failure. The contact stated that the vehicle was almost involved in a crash due to the failure. In addition, the contact stated that when the failure occurred, the contact's two-year-old child was an occupant in the vehicle. The contact stated that the vehicle had experienced electrical issues several times since the vehicle was purchased two years ago. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 44,000.

Known issue with GM with shift to park, when warranty is up cost hundreds of dollars. When the vehicle doesn’t know if it’s in park could potentially cause risk. Problem since 2018. GM needs to fix this know issue free of charge

When car is parked and shifted to park, an error message appears (SHIFT TO PARK). The SHIFT TO PART error message does not allow vehicle to exit auxiliary feature. The battery will drain if not completely shut off. The vehicle was taken to Dyer Chevrolet in Vero Beach, FL for repair. The dealer replaced shift control and harness to correct issue.

When parking vehicle and putting shifter in park, an audible alarm was dinging and the dash board was flashing shift to park. It was already in park. I did some things and it stopped. Many times I have my 7 grandchildren in the car with me. This has happened more than once and I feel its unsafe to exit my car until I get it to stop. I don’t know whats causing it. My husband said it happen to him too.

I purchased a 2022 Traverse in December 2021 and it just hit 40,000 miles. Now the shift to park error code keeps showing up when placed in park. I have to turn on/off multiple times and try shifting to and from park. It has been consistently erroring out over the last 2 weeks. I believe this is a safety issue due to the fact that it appears it's not going into park. This should absolutely be considered for a safety recall issue on these vehicle, cause my understanding is that this is happening in many Chevrolet Traverses and Acadias. I was given a quote of $275 for repair.

About 1 week ago, I began getting "Shift To Park" warnings/notifications when I would park the car and turn off the engine. To make it stop, I usually have to turn the car back on, shift to a different gear, shift back to Park, wiggle the gear shift around side to side and back and forth within the Park gear. Sometimes it will have remedied when I attempt to turn the car off the second time, and other times I need to do the same procedure again. In looking it up online, this is a known issue, and an ongoing issue, with GM vehicles over the past several years with no fix or attention to mandate a correction. This seems to effect GM vehicles of multiple models and can allow the vehicle to roll (and my driveway is a small hill on the top of the hill/cul d' sac that we live in). When it fails to recognize the vehicle is in Park, I cannot exit the car, the alerts and chimes continue and would ultimately drain my battery if it failed to recognize that it was in Park. I do have an appointment scheduled for the dealership to check since I am under warranty still. My vehicle only has less than 29,000 miles and is not driven on rough or challenging terrain, with local drives of less than 10 miles generally. Only 1 driver for this vehicle as well.

Wife was driving my kids to school this am. Driving up a slight hill on a speed limit 55 road vehicle started slowing down and wouldn’t accelerate. Stopped for a traffic light and it very slowly accelerated like a manual transmission stuck in a higher gear. Check engine light went on. I Was able to drive the traverse to the local gmc/Buick dealer which mentioned they were able to download some codes about possible transmission failure - super dangerous and very concerning for a ~1.5 year old vehicle with under 13,000 miles. This could be a major safety issue. Vehicle left at dealer, at this time no confirmed diagnosis but dealer acknowledged there’s a problem.

The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Traverse. The contact stated that while shifting the transmission into park (P), the vehicle failed to park. The "Shift to Park" message was displayed. Additionally, the vehicle inadvertently and aggressively lunged backward while stopped. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the transmission was replaced and repairs were performed on the exhaust system; however, the failure recurred with the vehicle making an abnormal sound while driving. Additionally, the contact stated that her daughter suffered shortness of breath and dizziness while asleep inside the vehicle, which she later received medical attention for. Upon inspection, the contact noticed there was a leak in the exhaust system. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, and the contact was informed that the exhaust pipe had a leak and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 6,000.

On multiple occasions the vehicle will not turn off due to the shift to park preventing the engine from turning off. If the operator is in a garage and needs to turn the engine off this will prevent the operator from turning it off and could cause injury or death due to vehicle exhaust. I currently have it at the Chevy dealership for warranty repair but I’m not sure if they will cover it. Here’s a link to the video of the issue: [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Automobile less than 1 year old w/ less than 14,000 miles has had the following service issues. Transmission Failure 06/28/2023 - Replacement of entire valve body Transmission Failure 07/06/2023 - Dealership claims entire transmission to be replaced. Mileage between failures was 334. No Accident or injury, but when a transmission fails with a family of 5 in the car, it is unsettling and unacceptable for a vehicle that is less than 1 year old w/ very low miles.
