The contact owns a 2017 Chevrolet Trax. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the contact noticed that there was smoke coming from underneath the hood. The contact was able to pull over. The vehicle was towed to a nearby hotel. The contact resumed driving, but the amount of smoke coming from underneath the hood increased. The vehicle was driven to the dealer, where an unknown repair was performed. Additionally, the contact stated that the windshield wipers failed to remain upwards on snowy days. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the contact was advised that it was a design failure. Additionally, upon taking the vehicle to several independent mechanics for service, the contact was informed that the brake sensors needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to an unknown recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.

Engine failed after turbo recall replacement- was told I would now need to replace the engine at $10,000. It will no longer run. Drove onto the lot could not drive it away after replacement of turbo which was replaced under recall.

Loss of heat due to radiator leak. I found A192219310 out on the NHTSA site for Chevy TRAX used as Maven vehicles, but nothing about radiator issues on my GM account in the warranty section. .My car is a 2017 with 49251 miles. Light driving. The dealer was not aware of any issues with radiators. If I had known of the issues I would have had a pressure test sooner.

Where to begin. I bought the vehicle brand new with 29 miles on it in April of 2017, January of 2019 I started having issues. My check engine light kept coming on and it affected my gas mileage and speed. I had stopped at a chevy dealership in Forest Lake Minnesota and had them scan the vehicle to see what was going on and made an appointment to bring it back in for a full diagnostics. I get there and they asked me if I had another vehicle with me because it would take about a week of it being there. First off, I hadn't agreed to anything yet, I still did not even know what was wrong with it yet. They ended up doing what they said was a full diagnostic on the vehicle (which cost me almost $200) came back to me and started off by telling me that I bought a "warm weather" vehicle and it in fact was my turbo that was going out. They stated that what was happening was it would freeze and what needed to be done was some sort of heating element needed to be installed, and this was going to cost me $2500 plus labor. I was out of warranty but still had my drivetrain warranty ( at this time I had forgotten I had purchased the extended warranty) I was told it wouldn't cover it. I was irate and left, was contacted a few days later by my normal dealership to replace a valve (special service) had that done, found out that the real issue was an oil and air leak. Now to fast forward to 2021- I fixed the oil and air leak 3 more times before replacing the intake cover from plastic to aluminum. Engine is still leaking oil like crazy though. That is only one piece of my issues, I keep getting a code (since 2021) P0420 which reads that it's my catalysts- since I was out of warranty I needed to wait until I could afford to do this, plus we needed to figure out which or both.. then I received the letter stating that there are issues with the turbo. Of course, I am out of warranty, now over 120k and the POS is costing me a fortune! If I had more space I could go on with my issues.

Around early Feb the engine started having issues. The vehicle would jerk and stall while driving and stopped in the middle of a busy street at a red light. And another time when going around a high traffic uphill turn. Around February 14 the car stopped on me and I had to have it towed to my mechanic and rent a vehicle so that everyone in the household could get to work and not lose our jobs. My mechanic confirmed that the turbo engine was failing just like it did in April of 2022. That time it was still covered under the manufacturer's warranty. In March I received a letter from GMC announcing issues with their Turbo Gas engine, stating all the issues I had experienced both times. I was directed to a GMC dealer near me, but they refused to fix the issue and instead told me they can "break my car down for $560 and then when they find the issue they would quote me a price for repairs." They refused to only order the turbo engine and repair it for free like the GMC letter stated. I have not been able to get the issue addressed.

This car consumes oil no matter what you replace. Replaced the pcv valve. Oil cooler and various other parts and still consumes one quart of oil per 100 miles. Now the engine needs replacing due to this issue. Gm was sued for oil consumption on other Chevy cars. This should be included. I have also have every receipt. Oil change and expense from the dealer if needed

turbo charger on all small engine for chevy have been giving people a lot of headaches during the winter months. Chevy is aware thar their turbo chargers are affected by cold weather but still put the turbo into new vehicles. I have fixed my turbocharger three times on my 2017 Trax with no success.

Engine started to have problems while driving. After parking, would not restart. Mechanic just reported that timing chain broke and caused other damage in engine. Needs new engine. Only has less than 85,000 miles on it.

12/30/2022 - Check engine light came on. Vehicle struggled to accelerate. No openings available at the mechanics due to holiday. This vehicle is being used for business and travels frequently. 01/03/2023 - Mechanic diagnosed during my scheduled oil change. Check engine light - PO299 popped up (lack of power to turbo charge) check all vacuum lines and clamps all good. If check engine light comes on recommend taking to dealer. 01/05/2023 - Check engine light and StabiliTrax light came on, vehicle wobbled/shook a lot while driving at an intersection. I attempted to drive safely in traffic as the car shook. Returned to the mechanic and it was diagnosed. Valve cover removed and replaced. 01/08/2023 - Check engine light came on while I was getting ready for a long trip. I pulled my car on the side of the road and called for a ride. At the end of the day, I picked up my car and safely drove home on Sunday evening. 01/09/2023 - Contacted Chevrolet dealer (175 Wiwoole St, Hilo, HI 96720) direct. The next diagnostic testing available is two months out: 03/06/2023.

Driving in cold weather...the car just completely had no power when pressing gas pedal...seems line fuel system froze or turbo freeze.....Car then shut off with No check engine light...no warning light!! Started right back up and still had no acceleration.....very upset with this vehicle and no recalls.....Ive seen many post's with this same issue!!

I DROVE MY TRAX YESTERDAY WITH NO PROBLEMS WHATSOEVER, THIS MORNING I GET INTO MY VEHICLE AT HOME, START THE CAR AND WITHIN TWO MINUTES, ITS FULL OF SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD, THE ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AND THE FRONT OF THE TRAX STARTS MAKING HORRIBLE NOISES AND SHAKING. I TURN THE CAR OFF AND LET IT SIT FOR A FEW MINUTES, TRY TO START IT UP AGAIN AND IT WILL NOT TURN OVER. THERE ARE NO FLUIDS ON THE GROUND, NO WIRING THAT I COULD SEE UNDONE, NOT SURE ON WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. I DO HAVE IT BEING TOWED TO A CERTIFIED DEALERSHIP TO GET IT LOOKED AT AND PRAYING FIXED.

WHILE DRIVING THE SERVICE STABILITRAK LIGHT GOES ON, THE ENGINE WILL GO FROM WHATEVER SPEED I AM GOING THEN LOSE ACCELERATION COMPLETELY AND AUTOMATICALLY JUMP BACK UP TO THE SPEED I WAS GOING MAKING THE CAR JOLT AND THE POWER STEERING FREEZES UP FOR NO REASON. THE FIRST MAJOR REPAIR I HAD WITH MY VEHICLE HAPPENED SHORTLY AFTER I SERVICED IT FOR IT'S REGULAR OIL CHANGE AT THE END OF 2018. I NOTICE MY AC WAS GOING IN AND OUT AND I CHECKED MY COOLANT, THE RESERVOIR WAS EMPTY. WHEN I MADE AN APPOINTMENT AT THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT THEY DISCOVERED A LEAK UNDER NEATH THE TURBO. IN 2019 A VALVE WAS REPLACED THAT WAS STICKING AS "COURTESY" AT ONE OF MY OIL CHANGES. THIS YEAR MY VEHICLE STALLED OUT ON ME AT THE GAS STATION. I TURNED OFF MY VEHICLE TO PUMP GAS AND IT WOULDN'T TURN BACK OVER. WHEN I FINALLY GOT IT TO START AGAIN IT WAS JERKING VERY HARD EVEN WHILE IDLING. IT WAS DIFFICULT TO GET MY VEHICLE RUNNING AGAIN. I GOT IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY REPLACED THE PURGE VALVE AND I PAID FOR AN INDUCTION SERVICE SINCE MY VEHICLE IS SLOWLY APPROACHING 50K. AFTER A COUPLE DAYS OF HAVING MY VEHICLE BACK I NOTICED MY VEHICLE IS STILL SHIFTING VERY HARD AND IS ESPECIALLY NOTICABLE IN 30-50MPH RANGE, I DROP MY VEHICLE BACK OFF AT THE DEALERSHIP 05/02/2020. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS NOT ON IT BUT, HEY'RE GETTING A READING THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE STABILITY.

I HAVE A 2017 CHEVY TRAX WITH A 1.4L TURBO. I HAVE AROUND 82,000 MILES ON IT. LAST WEEK IT STARTED RUNNING ROUGH SO I CHECKED THE OIL AND THERE WAS NONE. AND THEN REALIZED THE INTAKE GASKET WAS COMPLETELY SHOT. BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY FOUND THAT CYLINDER 3 RING WAS SHOT. THAT BEING SAID THEY WANTED 2500 FOR A REBUILD AND WHEN I ASKED IF I WOULD GET SOME ASSISTANCE FROM GM IT CAME DOWN TO I WASN'T A LOYAL CUSTOMER THEY WEREN'T GOING TO HELP. JUST BECAUSE ALL SERVICE WASN'T DONE THERE. AND NOW I HAVE A CAR WITH A BAD MOTOR AT 82K MILES. TO ME THAT SEEMS LIKE A A DEFECTIVE RING FROM WHEN THE MOTOR WAS BUILT. THEY SAY NO OF COURSE. I'M VERY IN SATISFIED AND IN AWE ON THIS SITUATION. I WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANOTHER VEHICLE FROM CHEVY AGAIN.

FIRST PROBLEM WITH MY TRAX 2017 WAS WHEN MY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL KID PULLED THE SEAT BELT TO SNAP HER BOOSTER SEAT AND IT NEVER ROLLED BACK. STAYS STRETCHED AND DOESN'T RETRACT. I THOUGHT IT WAS NOT A BIG DEAL AND MOVED HER ON THE OTHER SIDE. YESTERDAY I GOT THE ENGINE LIGHT ON AND MY CAR JUST SLOWED DOWN FOR NO REASON. I WAS ALREADY SCARED AND WONDERING IF IT IS SAFE TO DRIVE WITH THE KIDS ON THE BACK BUT WAS ON THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD WITH NO PLACE TO PULL OVER SO I KEPT GOING BUT MY CAR WOULD NO GO OVER 30MPH. 5 MINUTES LATER IT GOT BETTER.I AM TAKING IT TO THE DEALERSHIP TOMORROW BUT ITS OVER AN HOUR AWAY AND DON'T EVEN KNOW IF I SHOULD DRIVE OR HAVE IT TOWED.

THIS WILL BE THE THIRD TIME IN 6 MONTHS THAT THE CAR HAS HAD TO BE TAKEN IN TO THE DEALERSHIP. IT DISPLAYS POWER STEERING ERROR, ENGINE LIGHT COME ON AND CAR WITH DROP SPEED WITH NO WARNING. IT ALSO LOSSES THE POWER STEERING. IT WILL THEN START UP FINE AND RUN, BUT THIS TIME THE ENGINE LIGHT IS REMAINING ON. HAS HAPPENED IN THE WARM AND COLD WEATHER AND AFTER A LONG DRIVE AND A SHORT DRIVE. NOT SURE WHY THERE ARE NO OTHER REPORTS OF THIS HAPPENING. IT HAS HAPPENED WHEN DRIVING AT 45 MILES AND THIS LAST TIME WHEN TRYING TO START IT TO LEAVE MY HOUSE. VERY SCARY TO HAVE YOUR CHILD DRIVING THIS TO AND FROM SCHOOL.

TL* THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING . WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, ALL THE WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND SMOKE WAS SEEN COMING FROM THE HOOD. THE CONTACT STOPPED THE VEHICLE, EXITED, AND NOTICED FLAMES UNDER THE ENGINE AND FRONT TIRES. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED AND EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A SALVAGE YARD AND DEEMED A TOTAL LOSS. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED BY A DEALER OR INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE MANUFACTURER WAS INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 930. *TT

COLD WEATHER CAUSED TURBO SYSTEM TO FREEZE AND THE VEHICLE GO INTO LIMP MODE. UNABLE TO ACCELERATE. PARTS ON NATIONAL BACKORDER FOR 2 MONTHS. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE USED WITH JUST UNDER 19,000 MILES ON IN DECEMBER 2017. ON DECEMBER 30TH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE VEHICLE WENT INTO LIMP MODE WHILE ACCELERATING ON THE HIGHWAY (PREVIOUS HAD LET THE VEHICLE GO THROUGH 2 START UP CYCLES AND WENT ABOUT 5 MILES DOWN THE ROAD BEFORE I HAD AN ISSUE). THE WEATHER WAS AROUND -20 F. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP AND A SOLENOID WAS REPLACED FOR THE TURBO SYSTEM. AFTER ABOUT A WEEK OF HAVING THE VEHICLE, WHEN THE WEATHER WAS COLD BUT NOT AS COLD AS THE FIRST TIME THE ISSUE OCCURRED, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE VEHICLE WENT INTO LIMP MODE. I WAS PROBABLY ABOUT 10 MILES DOWN THE ROAD AND HAD RAN THE VEHICLE THROUGH A REMOTE START CYCLE. I WAS ACCELERATING AFTER SLOWING DOWN FOR ANOTHER VEHICLE. VEHICLE WAS AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR 2 MONTHS AS THE PART I NEEDED FOR TSB # 16-NA-405 (DATED 12/23/16) WAS ON A NATIONAL BACKORDER. THE WEATHER WARMED UP, SO THE DEALERSHIP LET ME HAVE THE VEHICLE BACK UNTIL THE PART CAME IN. SHORTLY AFTER THE PART I NEEDED CAME IN, SO THE TSB WAS COMPLETED. CHEVY HAS KNOWN ABOUT THE TURBO SYSTEM FREEZING FOR OVER A YEAR, YET THEY SELL VEHICLES WITH THIS ISSUE IN COLD WEATHER STATES. CHEVY DID NOT SEEM CONCERNED ABOUT THIS ISSUE, SO I AM HOPING TO WARN OTHERS AND GET THE WORD OUT. I SPOKE TO SOMEONE WHO ALSO HAS A TRAX AND HAD THE SAME ISSUE. THEY ACTUALLY HAD THEIR VEHICLE START SMOKING AFTER THE REPAIR, AND THE REPAIR HAD TO ME MADE OVER. CHEVY NEEDS TO MAKE SURE THIS IS FIXED IN ALL VEHICLES WITH THIS TURBO SYSTEM, SO SOMEONE DOES GET STRANDED OR IN AN ACCIDENT.

IN COLD WEATHER DRIVING, 2017 CHEVY TRAX WILL THROW A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT 20 MINUTES AFTER STARTUP, WHICH SHUTS DOWN THE VEHICLES ABILITY TO MAINTAIN SPEED. THIS HAPPENS IN TOWN AND ON THE HIGHWAY. CODE SAYS TURBO FREEZING. THE VEHICLE WILL GO MAX 40MPH UPHILL ON THE HIGHWAY AND MAX 60MPH ON FLAT OR DOWNHILL HIGHWAY. HAVE TO PULL OVER BECAUSE CARS ARE COMING FROM BEHIND VERY FAST IN SNOWY CONDITIONS WHEN VEHICLE WILL NOT MAINTAIN SPEED. THE VEHICLE CANNOT ACCELERATE FROM A STOP EITHER. VERY SCARY. IN TOWN DRIVING IS ALMOST NOT POSSIBLE WITHOUT GETTING RUN INTO BECAUSE YOU CANNOT GET OUT OF THE WAY. WE HAVE 10 OF THESE VEHICLES AND THEY ALL DO THE SAME. CHEVY DEALER SAYS THEY HAVE A FIX, BUT CANNOT GETS PARTS TO FIX. ITS BEEN 4 MONTHS OF THIS MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE WITH NO HELP FROM CHEVY. I AM FED UP.

WHEN FIRST PURCHASED THIS CAR I HAD IT FOR A MONTH AND WHEN CONNECTED TO BLUETOOTH I COULDN'T HEAR THE OTHER PARTY AND OTHER PARTY WOULD HEAR LOUD NOISES I TOOK IT IN TO DIAGNOSE AND THEY SAID IT WAS FINE. NOT THE CASE CONTINUED TO HAPPEN TO THIS DAY. ABOUT 3 MONTHS INTO BUYING IT WHEN STARTING IT DELAYED AS IF I HAD A COUPLE YEARS OLD CAR I THINK THE STARTER IS WARNING ME IT IS GOING TO GIVE ME PROBLEMS. ALSO WHEN BRAKING IS DOESN'T STOP AS IF I HAD A NEW CAR IT DELAYS AND I HAVE ALMOST CRASHED A COUPLE TIMES IN SERIOUS TRAFFIC IT HAS BREAKS AS IF IT WAS AN OLD CAR
