TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET UPLANDER. WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED, THE VEHICLE MADE AN UNUSUAL NOISE. THE DOORS FAILED TO OPEN AND CLOSE EASILY, ESPECIALLY THE FRONT DOORS. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENTIRE FRAME WAS RUSTED OUT AND SEPARATED, COMPROMISING THE INTEGRITY OF THE FRAME. THE DEALER ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE REAR POWER DOORS ON MY 2006 UPLANDER HAVE CONSTANTLY NEEDED SERVICE. THERE HAVE BEEN TIMES THE DOOR ALARM GOES OFF WHEN THE DOOR IS NOT ACTUALLY OPEN, WE HAVE TO PULL OVER AND RESET THE DOORS BY OPENING AND CLOSING THEM. THE ROLLER BEARINGS HAVE BEEN REPLACED TWICE ON THE DRIVERS SLIDER. BOTH DOORS HAVE BEEN SERVICED AT LEAST 10 TIMES FOR IMPROPER CLOSING, FAULTY SENSOR ALARM DINGING EVEN WHEN THE DOORS ARE CLOSED, SOMETIMES IT TAKES MANY ATTEMPTS FOR THE DOORS TO CLOSE. I BOUGHT MY UPLANDER AT DEALERSHIP MILAGE WAS AT 24,000. THE DOOR WOULD OPEN AND NOT CLOSE WE FINALLY GOT THIS FIXED I HOPE. JUST YESTERDAY AT MILAGE 45,000 WE HAD TO REPLACE TIE ROD ON PASSENGER SIDE. FOUND OUT THAT IT DID NOT HAVE GREASE PIN ON IT CALLED MANUFACTOR AND THEY SAY SOMEONE HAD TO HAVE REPLACED IT. I DO NOT BELIEVE IT HAD EVER BEEN REPLACED AND THIS IS WHAT IS CAUSING TIRE WEAR AND VIBRATIONS IN THE UPLANDERS WHICH ALSO COULD CAUSE ACCIDENTS EVEN DEATHS. ALSO WHEN DRIVING ALL LIGHTS WILL GO OFF UNTIL YOU HIT BRAKES I HAVE HAD DIAGNOTICS CHECKED TO SEE IF ANYTHING WOULD SHOW UP. NOTHING DOES. SO THIS IS A MAJOR CONCERN ALSO . THERE SEEMS TO BE THE SAME PROBLEMS LISTED FROM ALMOST EVERYONE AND SOME OF THESE THINGS COULD COST CONSUMERS THEIR LIFE OR THEIR FAMILIES. I BOUGHT MY 2006 UPLANDER USED. A WEEK OR TWO AFTER BUYING IT, THE PASSENGER BACK SLIDING DOOR BEGAN GIVING ME PROBLEMS. IT WILL SEEM TO BE CLOSING ALL THE WAY AND THEN POP BACK OPEN. I HAVE NEVER TAKEN OFF WHEN THIS HAPPENS, BUT I AM VERY OBSERVANT ABOUT IT AND WITH A SMALL CHILD I REFUSE TO ENDANGER HIM IN ANY WAY. I THOUGHT THAT MAYBE THIS WAS JUST A FLUKE AND DIDN'T TAKE IT TO BE SEEN ABOUT. I STILL HAVE NOT, BECAUSE MY WARRANTY IS OUT AND I DON'T HAVE THE MONEY TO PAY FOR AN EXPENSIVE FIX. 1ST THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON AND WHEN PUT ON DIAGNOSTIC CODE CAME BACK PO463. THE VAN WOULDN'T PASS EMISSIONS AND WHEN YOU FILL UP WITH GAS IT WOULD SAY IT WAS EMPTY. THERE'S A LOUD POPPING NOISE SOUNDS LIKE AT AXLE. IT DOES THIS AFTER YOU STOP AT RED LIGHTS. I WAS TOLD THIS HAD TO DO WITH AXLE AND COULD BRAKE AND CAUSE FATAL ACCIDENT, THE ABS LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON AND THE BRAKING SYSTEM SCARED ME TO DEATH. THE DOORS CONSTANTLY CHIME OR DING AND THE DOORS WILL OPEN GOING DOWN THE ROAD. I WAS SO UPSET BECAUSE I HAVE TO TRANSPORT MY ELDERLY AUNT AND TWO CHILDREN AND BEFORE I WAS ABOUT TO PAY TO HAVE ALL THIS FIXED I DECIDED TO CHECK OUT RECALL. I AM SO SHOCKED THAT YOU CAN LOOK THIS UP ONLINE AND THEY ARE 1000 DOCUMENTED COMPLAINTS ON ALL THE SAME PROBLEMS BUT YET NO RECALLS. IS IT GOING TO TAKE PEOPLE GETTING KILLED TO DO THIS. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT AFTER CLOSING THE DOOR THE WARNING GAUGE WOULD INDICATE THAT IT WAS STILL OPEN. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT AS A RESULT OF THE FAILURE, A CHILD'S HAND WAS CAUGHT IN THE DOOR AND SHE WAS UNABLE TO OPEN THE DOOR IN ORDER TO RELEASE THE CHILD'S HAND. THE CHILD WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL AND SUFFERED MINOR BRUISING AND SWELLING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TRACTION CONTROL, ABS AND VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL WARNING INDICATORS WOULD ILLUMINATE INTERMITTENTLY. IN ADDITION, THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER AUTOMATIC SLIDING DOOR WOULD NOT OPERATE PROPERLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER NUMEROUS TIMES FOR THE FAILURES WHERE THE SLIDING DOORS, STEERING SHAFT, YAW SENSOR, SIR MODULE AND HUB BEARINGS WERE REPLACED YET ALL EXCEPT THE SLIDING DOOR FAILURE RECURRED. MOST RECENTLY, THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN DRIVING THE AUTOMATIC SLIDING DOOR CHIME WOULD ACTIVATE CONTINUOUSLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 14,873.

THE MOTOR TO THE REAR LATCH ON THE DRIVER SIDE SLIDING DOOR DOES NOT APPEAR STRONG ENOUGH TO PULL IN, BOLT SHUT AND LOCK THE HASP OVER THE REAR STAPLE. DOOR REQUIRES AN EXTERNAL "HIP CHECK" OR STRONG PUSH ON THE REAR OF THE DOOR TO HEAR A "CLICK" THAT CONFIRMS THAT THE DOOR IS LOCKED SHUT. WITHOUT THIS ACTION, THE DOOR MAY REPEATEDLY REOPEN, UP TO 20-30 ATTEMPTS, EACH TIME EMITTING AN ALARM THAT MAKES THE VEHICLE UNABLE TO DRIVE. THIS ISSUE WAS FIRST RAISED TO THE DEALER WITHIN THE FIRST YEAR OF PURCHASE, HAS BEEN REPEATEDLY RAISED TO THE DEALER, UP TO A HALF DOZEN TIMES OVER THE COURSE OF THE LAST TWO YEARS, AND WAS RAISED TO THE MANUFACTURER WITHIN THE PAST YEAR. EACH SUBMISSION RESULTS IN THE DEALER NOT BEING ABLE TO REPRODUCE THE PHENOMENA OR FIX THE PROBLEM. THE DOOR SAFETY ALARM IS IMPERFECT AS THERE HAVE BEEN MANY TIMES THE DOOR CLOSES, THE ALARM IS NOT ACTIVATED, BUT THE REAR OF THE DOOR APPEARS CLOSED. LATER HOWEVER, AFTER SOME DRIVING, THE REAR OF THE DOOR APPEARS SLIGHTLY AJAR, POSSIBLY DUE TO THE NORMAL JOSTLING EXPERIENCED DURING DRIVING. THE UNSECURED DOOR IS OFTEN FIRST DETECTED WHEN THE DRIVER HEARS STREET TRAFFIC WHILE DRIVING. THIS SOUND IS SIMILAR TO THE SOUND COMING FROM A SLIGHTLY OPEN WINDOW. IF NOT NOTICED DURING DRIVING, THE SLIGHT OPENING OF THE REAR PORTION OF THE SLIDING DOOR IS ALSO VISUALLY NOTICEABLE BY LOOKING AT THE DOOR FROM THE REAR OF THE VAN. *TR

I OWN A 2006 CHEVY UPLANDER. THE PROBLEM STARTED OFF WITH THE DRIVERS SIDE SLIDING DOOR WOULDN'T STAY CLOSED. I WOULD CLOSE IT, IT WOULD DING AND RE OPEN ON ITS OWN, FINALLY GOT IT TO STAY CLOSED AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS. IT GOT TO THE POINT WHEN I OPENED THE DOOR IT WOULD TAKE 10 MINUTES OR SO TO GET IT TO STAY CLOSED. PRIOR TO THE FAILURE, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE DOORS WERE BECOMING VERY DIFFICULT TO CLOSE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE SLIDING DOOR MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 57,000. BOUGHT A 2006 UPLANDER FROM ROYAL CHEVROLET IN RICHMOND VA. VEHICLE WAS SOLD TO US IN JULY 2007 AS NEW. STARTING IN OCT-NOV VEHICLE ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON, IN NOVEMBER TIE RODS AND SWAY BARS HAD TO ALREADY BE REPLACED, VEHICLE VIBRATES WHILE SITTING STILL,VEHICLE STEERING COLUMN CREAKS, CLANKS AND SCREECHES, VEHICLE SWAYS TO RIGHT AND I HAVE TO "OVERDRIVE" TO KEEP IT ON ROAD SAFELY, SHAKES WHILE SITTING STILL, RATTLING NOISE FROM RIGHT SIDE BACK PASSENGER AREA, HEADLIGHT DIM ON THEIR OWN WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT, RPMS REV UP WITH NORMAL DRIVING,GAS READS EMPTY WITH 1/4 TANK IN IT AND WILL NOT START IF PARKED ON DOWNWARD INCLINE. THE ONLY THING TAKEN SERIOUSLY WAS THE TIE ROD AND SWAY BARS, THEY WERE FIXED BUT VAN STILL SHAKES AND DOES NOT FEEL SAFE. I WROTE LETTERS TO THE MANUFACTURER AND MANY WEEKS HAVE GONE BY WITH NO CONTACT FROM THEM TO HELP ME FIX MY PROBLEMS. *TR

PURCHASED IN JAN 06. BY SEPT 11, 2006 STEERING WHEEL BECAME TIGHT AND HEARD NOISE UNDER CAR WHEN DRIVING. STEERING SHAFT WAS BINDING AND HAD TO BE REPLACED; COULD NOT LOCATE NOISE. SAID MAY BE RELATED TO STEERING SHAFT. SEPT 20, 2006, TOOK CAR BACK TO DEALERSHIP FOR NOISE UNDER VAN AGAIN; WAS TOLD E-BRAKE CABLE WAS HITTING REAR SUSPENSION. FEBRUARY 11, 2007, HAD TO REPLACE FRONT WORN TIRES WITH ONLY 23, 275 MILES ON CAR AND HAVE AN ALIGNMENT. MARCH 9, 2007, TRACTION CONTROL AND ABS LIGHTS COMING ON AS WELL AS VEHICLE SHAKING. WAS TOLD FRONT BRAKES WERE 100% WORN AND BACK BRAKES WERE 80% WORN AND WOULD NOT BE REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY BECAUSE THIS WAS NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR.(ONLY HAD 23,989 MILES ON VAN). APRIL 19, 2007, HEARD NOISED WHILE DRIVING, HEARD SOMETHING LIKE A SPRING POP, SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT WAS COMING ON, AND IT WAS STALLING WHEN TRYING TO START. BOTH SWAY BARS HAD TO BE REPLACED, SPRING POP WAS RELATED TO SWAY BARS, AND THEY COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM RELATED TO THE LAST TWO. NOW A YEAR LATER WITH ONLY 39,000, I HAVE TO TAKE MY CAR IN FOR NEW BRAKES AGAIN. AND MY FRONT TIRES ARE WORN AND NEED TO BE REPLACED AGAIN!!!!! I ALSO HAD PROBLEMS WITH MY DOORS NOT CLOSING; AFTER THEY WIPED OFF THE LITTLE MAGNETS AT THE BOTTOM SOMETIMES THEY STILL DON'T WANT TO CLOSE. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET UPLANDER. WHILE THE GEAR SHIFT WAS IN PARK, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START; HOWEVER, THERE WAS FIVE GALLONS OF GASOLINE IN THE VEHICLE. AFTER ADDING MORE GASOLINE, THE VEHICLE STARTED. THAT VEHICLE CONTINUED TO STALL WHEN IT IS PARKED ON AN INCLINE. THE DEALER STATED THAT IS DUE TO WAY THE CAR IS DESIGNED AND ADVISED HER NOT TO PARK ON AN INCLINE. A COMPLAINT WAS FILED WITH THE MANUFACTURER. THE PASSENGER AUTOMATIC DOOR ON THE DRIVERS SIDE OPENS WITHOUT WARNING WHILE DRIVING, IT HAS SHUT ON MY DAUGHTER, AND IT IS MISALIGNED. IT IS UNPREDICATABLE AS TO WHEN THIS WILL HAPPEN. I HAVE HAD IT IN FOR SERVICE 11 TIMES JUST FOR THE DOOR. MY STABILITY AND TRACTION SYSTEM HAS BEEN IN 3 TIMES, AND MY WHOLE STEERING COMPONENT HAS BEEN REPLACED. I AM CONCERNED ABOUT THE DOOR THE MOST AS I HAVE TWO CHILDREN. *JB

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET UPLANDER. WHILE PUMPING GAS IN THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT'S FIVE YEAR OLD CHILD WAS ABLE TO OPEN THE DOOR, WHICH FAILED TO REMAIN SHUT. THE CONTACT HAD TO HOLD THE DOOR WITH THE PUMP NOZZLE BEFORE SHE WAS ABLE TO CLOSE THE DOOR. ON ANOTHER OCCASION, SHE STATED THAT THE DOOR AUTOMATICALLY OPENED BY ITSELF. THE PURCHASE DATE WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 19,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 13,450.

THE VAN IS EQUIPPED WITH DUAL POWER SLIDING DOORS. I HAVE HAD MULTIPLE REPAIRS COMPLETED AND THEY STILL DO NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY. ON TWO OCCASIONS, THEY SHUT ON ONE OF MY CHILDREN, ONCE CAUSING A 5" X 2" BRUISE ON MY 8 YEAR OLD AND ONCE CAUSING MY 5 YEAR OLD TO LIMP ON A SORE ANKLE FOR 2 DAYS. ADDITIONALLY, EVERY TIME I HIT A BUMP, IT DISCONNECTS FROM THE SENSORS AND SETS OFF AN ALARM. MY PRIMARY CONCERN, HOWEVER, WAS WHEN I WAS DRIVING 50 MPH AND THE REAR PASSENGER DOOR OPENED BY ITSELF. NO ONE WAS INJURED, BUT IT WAS VERY FRIGHTENING. THIS IS NOT A SAFE VEHICLE. *NM

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER'S SIDE SLIDING DOOR SLID SHUT AS THE CONTACT'S CHILD ENTERED THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS WALKING AROUND TO THE OTHER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE, WHEN THE SLIDING DOOR SLID SHUT PINNING THE CHILD TO THE DOOR CAUSING INJURY TO THE CHEST WALL, FACE, SCALP, AND SPINE. THERE WERE NO PROBLEMS PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT. THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THAT THE SLIDING DOOR CATCHES WERE WORN DOWN AFTER ONE YEAR AND NEW DOOR CATCHES WERE REPLACED.
