Propulsion power reduced error has happened many times but the recall lookup shows that there are no active recalls on our car. There was a recall on this problem in 2018 so I think it may have been done my the last owner but it is still having this problem.

Fuel leaking from fuel tank at filler inlet. Defect in fuel tank assembly. Large puddle of gasoline formed under car after refueling causing buildup of fumes in closed garage. Vehicle has not been inspected by anyone other than owner. There were no warning lamps prior to failure.

This is a reoccurring problem that is worsening. It is difficult to replicate (but becoming easier to replicate as the problem worsens). The problem conditions are as follows: -The car is fully charged The following drive conditions are required: - The beginning of a drive, with the car in the fully charged state, is driven in the “L” mode (aggressive regenerative braking), AND the beginning (first mile or two) of the trip includes some conditions that would NORMALLY engage regenerative breaking and redirect energy flow back to the high voltage battery. (E.g.: Beginning a drive by going up a small incline; then proceeding to drive down a decline.) OR - The beginning of a drive, with the car in the fully charged state, is driven in the “D” mode, AND the beginning (first mile or two) of the trip includes almost exclusively conditions that would NORMALLY trigger regenerative breaking and redirect flow back to the high voltage battery. IN BOTH cases: the instrument cluster, during conditions that would reflect regenerative breaking and energy flow back into the high voltage battery, instead reflects suddenly INCREASED electrical OUTPUT despite there being no increased demand for output from the driver. Expected behavior in these conditions would reflect a negative power output while the car is driven in regenerative conditions (e.g.: going down hill). In either of these cases, the final condition is that you fully stop the vehicle (via brake) during the regenerative conditions. DESPITE full depression of the brake, the car jerks forward violently and erratically, attempting to accelerate. Engaging the emergency brake does not cure the condition while the car is still in L or D driving mode, and it will continue to attempt to accelerate while held in place. Shifting in to neutral does stop the behavior. Shifting back to L or D from neutral will cause the vehicle to continue to attempt to accelerate. There are no error codes/lamps and sensors appear normal.

Vehicle went into reduced propulsion mode and then shut-off while driving down the highway. Same issue as recall 18V397000 that was not applied to my VIN number as part of that recall. Please apply recall 18V39000 to my vehicle VIN. Chevy Volt owners also need the NHTSA to issue an edict to GM/ that the reset codes for the ECM/HPCM2 being given to the OBD2 bi-directional scanner companies so owners don't have to pay a ransom to the dealerships and GM to get there cars back up and running.

Engine shuts off randomly...message "Engine not available". Car shut off on freeway at 60 mph. Got to shoulder, cycled start button...Engine started then resumed driving. Has now happened a few times since. Also code related to reduced propulsion... Used OBDII to clear codes but makes no difference. Sometimes the car starts and drives without problem. Other times, Engine rpm very erratic.

This report is in general for EV batteries and low propulsion, BMW also. When system moves to low propulsion the break lights do not eliminate so the vehicle slows very fast as if it is breaking but no break lights turn on, this creates a risk for other drivers, this occurs on steep mountain climbs when mountain mode was not engaged. What I want to happen is when low propulsion mode engages the break lights come on so that other drives can keep safe distance as I pull to the side for battery to recharge. This does not happen that often but when it does occur it creates a scary situation. A electric BMW also did this today. Please request a break light adaption for future EV batteries/Gas Powered vehicles. Keep in mind this is generally for electric cars that have a backup gas engine that powers after battery is depleted, they most often have issues on steep mountain climbs at freeway speeds and or in some cases as I witnessed today when behind a BMW cars slowing very quickly without alarms to other drivers. If the system can generate a low propulsion error warning drivers it can turn the break lights on also in if software is coded correctly. System should turn on break lights when this occurs for BMW and or other electric cars

When starting the vehicle, which had some charge on the batteries, the engine immediately started and a message appeared on the speedometer screen which stated, "Propulsion Power Reduced,” and another message said, “speed limited to 25mph.” I was in a very busy part of Hollywood running errands for my job when this happened. I felt very unsafe driving under these circumstances as I often need to drive above 25mph to keep up with traffic and cross busy streets to avoid other cars. The vehicle is available for inspection. It has not been taken to a dealership or anywhere else to have the issue looked at. The problem has occurred a few other times. The vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others. There were no warnings or other symptoms whatsoever prior to this issue occurring.

1)A diagnostic inspection performed by Terry Labonte Chevrolet in Greensboro, N.C., during the week of Feb. 5-9 found that the car’s propulsion system suffered “catastrophic failure” and was a “total loss.” 2)My wife and I were in convoy when we drove off the used-car lot in Pittsboro, N.C., on [XXX], heading for my sister’s home in Greensboro. By the time we reached [XXX], the Volt would not reach highway speeds as heavy traffic sped past. As NHTSA has reported in another Volt investigation, “the problem could pose a safety risk if vehicles can’t move with the flow of surrounding traffic and is more serious if a stalled vehicle is unable to restart.” 3) On Tuesday, [XXX], a Terry Labonte Chevrolet service representative in Greensboro reported that the main battery had experienced “catastrophic” failure and the “major malfunction” represented a “total loss." 4) Factory dealer Terry Labonte Chevrolet in Greensboro performed the diagnostics. 5) An instrument-panel message appeared about 15 minutes after I drove the Volt off the used-car lot in Pittsboro. I was driving my plugin hybrid Volt on a highway when the engine stalled and the engine light turned on. I tap the throttle a few times to get it to stay on. It worked, but I had to continue to tap the throttle to keep it going. It also revved up sharply when it was in low gear. The vehicle was out of battery, so it was as running on engine.

I received a notification on the dashboard that the engine is not in service and propulsion has been reduced. The car is available for inspection upon request. The safety and myself has been deeply compromised because the issues cause the car to suddenly not accelerate without warning. The issue happened to me on a freeway and could have caused an accident due to the engine and propulsion systems stop functioning without warning. The vehicle has been inspected. There were no warnings on why the car was doing what it was doing. The only warning I received was that the engine and propulsion system has now stopped functioning.

We purchased this car used in January 2023. Several times throughout 2023 we have gotten a Propoulsion Power Reduced warning. When this happens the car’s ability to accelerate drops and we have also had problems getting it to charge. Following one incident, we let the car sit for 4 days. While the car still would not charge using our at home level 2 charger, the warning went away and I was able to drive it to a dealership. They ran a software update which they said should resolve the issue. Three times since then, when turning the car on from parked it in parking lots away from home, it has given the warning. While driving the car to get it home, the warning has spontaneously resolved.

1. Propulsion Power Reduced -AGAIN. We have had this repaired recently & it’s back. Apparently it’s “not a problem” as long as check engine light is not on. Unfortunately, the engine light is on AGAIN - despite being reset. The car is not accelerating when needed. 2. “Brake Assist” light is on AGAIN- and I do not have power brakes. It is hard to stop. Could we at minimum get accurate warning systems & repairs that work? 2.

Car suddenly lost ability to accelerate normally while driving. It could only accelerate extremely slowly, seemingly with great effort. It displayed “PROPULSION POWER REDUCED SERVICE ENGINE SOON” and ENGINE NOT AVAILABLE” messages on the dashboard, and a check engine light came on. It sounds like it may be related to current GM recall 18215/ NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V397000, but nothing comes up when I search for this VIN.

I was driving through the grapevine and my car was losing propulsion. I had to drive in the slow lane with the semi-trucks. The semi trucks had to go around me. I am nervous about driving my car on a road trip to North Cal. I am not sure if that is normal, but I don't think so. The airbag light just went on. I am not sure why. My car has also on several occasions lost traction. Has anyone reported these problems before?

When Im driving on the hi way, it sounds like it keeps accelerating, sounds like its going to explode. The pulsation warning comes on, then the pulsation warning will go away and the sound goes away.

There is a bearing that fails in the motor which is a safety issue and should be recalled. It causes the engine/transmission to lock up and become inoperable which can result in a crash. They even issued a bulletin regarding it (PIP5081), yet they have been refusing to cover it under warranty for me as well. This needs to be recalled and all affected owners should be reimbursed for any expenses they paid regarding this issue. General Motors must be held accountable for this safety issue. This has been confirmed by the dealer and all of these vehicles are experiencing the issue.

My 2013 Volt has turned off while driving on multiple occasions, usually while on the highway. I have taken it to the Chevy dealer on several occasions and they are unable to find the problem. The vehicle "Propulsion System" warning has come on when the car suddenly decelerated while on the highway and eventually turned off. The vehicle is at the Chevy dealer who tells me they cells were not balanced and is no longer functioning. They are unable to replace the battery because Chevy is not releasing them so now the car is a paperweight in their parkinglot. Stopping on the highway is a serious problem.

VEHICLE HAS STOPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. DURING THIS TIME THE VEHICLE WILL POST AN ERROR ON THE DASH SCREEN. THIS ISSUE HAPPENS WHEN THE VEHICLE TRANSITIONS FROM ELECTRIC FUEL TO GASOLINE, WHEN THE ELECTRIC FUEL IS DEPLETED. CHEVY REFUSES TO REPAIR OR WARRANTY THE VEHICLE, ALSO THE DEALER REFUSES TO COMPLETE THE NECESSARY RECALLS ON THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE DOES NOT RETURN TO NORMAL UNTIL YOU TURN THE VEHICLE ON AND OFF MULTIPLE TIMES.

I WAS DRIVING MY 2013 CHEVROLET VOLT AND I RECEIVED A LOSS OF PROPULSION MESSAGE ON MY DASHBOARD AND IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWED BY A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. MY CAR SHUT DOWN AND SLOWED DOWN ON THE FREEWAY AS I WAS DRIVING. IT WAS VERY DANGEROUS BECAUSE IT WAS ALSO DARK. I WAS ABLE TO GLIDE TO EXIT THE FREEWAY. MY CAR CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP IN THE EXIT LANE OF THE FREEWAY. I PRESSED THE POWER BUTTON TO TURN OFF THE CAR AND THEN I WAITED ABOUT 30 SECONDS AND I TURNED THE POWER BUTTON BACK ON AND THE CAR CAME ON AS ONLY POWER MODE. I WAS ABLE TO MOVE THE CAR VERY SLOWLY SOMEWHERE MORE SAFE. I CALLED TOW TRUCK AND I TOWED IT TO DEALERSHIP. THE VOLT WAS STILL ABLE TO MOVE SLOWLY UP THE TOW TRUCK AND WHEN I ARRIVED AT THE DEALERSHIP, IT WAS STILL ABLE TO MOVE SLOWLY TO THE ENTRANCE OF THE SERVICE STATION. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON, BUT LOSS OF PROPULSION LIGHT WAS GONE. SERVICE ADVISORS TOLD ME THEY WOULD FIX MY CAR AS IT WAS COVERED UNDER THE RECALL EVEN THOUGH MY CAR WAS SALVAGED. THE ESTIMATE WAS $145. LATER ON THEY CALLED ME THAT MY CAR HAD 8 CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS ON AND THAT I NEEDED A TRANSMISSION BECAUSE THEIR WAS A WHINING SOUND AND ALSO LOSS OF PROPULSION STILL ON. I WENT TO GO LOOK AT MY CAR A COUPLE DAYS LATER AFTER I FILLED A COMPLAINT WITH GM HEADQUARTERS BECAUSE THIS SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER THE RECALL. WHEN I WENT TO GO CHECK OUT MY VEHICLE, IT WAS IN A WORSE CONDITION THEN WHEN I DROPPED IT OFF. MY CAR WOULD NOT EVEN TURN ON. WHEN I PUSHED THE POWER BUTTON, IT WOULD SAY ENGINE NOT AVAILABLE AND IT WOULD ALSO SAY LOSS OF PROPULSION AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STILL ON. I WAS NOT ABLE TO MOVE MY CAR AND THE BATTERY STILL HAD 8 MILES LEFT. IT WAS WEIRD AS TO WHY MY CAR IS GETTING WORSE WHILE BEING IN THE DEALER. DEALER TOLD ME THEY ARE DONE WITH THE UPDATE AND IN ORDER TO DIAGNOSE THE VEHICLE, I HAVE TO PAY $430 AND MORE THAN LIKELY THOUSANDS OF DOLLAR TO FIX IT.

I HAVE HAD MY CAR FOR 2 YEARS AND HAVE NOT EXPERIENCED ANY ISSUES WITH THE BATTERY OR PROPULSION CONTROL SYSTEM. I GOT A RECALL NOTICE TO FIX "LOSS OF PROPULSION DUE TO LOW CELL VOLTAGE". THE SERVICE TEAM WAS VERY NICE, I SAT IN THEIR WAITING ROOM FOR ABOUT TWO HOURS. THEY SAID IT WAS DONE SO I THEN WENT TO WORK FOR A COUPLE HOURS. WHEN DRIVING HOME I GET TO THE POINT WHERE THE INITIAL ELECTRICAL BATTERY IS DEPLETED AND THEN IT TURNS ON THE GAS GENERATOR. I IMMEDIATELY GET AN ALERT "LOSS OF PROPULSION" AND THE CAR STOPS ACCELERATING AND DRIVES VERY DIFFERENT. LOW ACCELERATION, AC TURNS OFF. I MAKE IT HOME AND THEN THE CHARGING SYSTEM SAYS IT IS NOT WORKING. I TRY TO TURN THE CAR BACK ON AND IT DOESN'T LET ME PUT IT IN GEAR. I CALLED ON STAR AND THEY SCHEDULED A TOW TRUCK TO COME AND HAVE IT TOWED BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP. WILL LET YOU KNOW HOW IT GOES.

WHILE STARTING VEHICLE FOR COMMUTE BACK HOME, THE ON BOARD DIAGNOSTIC WARNING POPES UP SAYING THAT PROFUSION PEER WAS REDUCED. THE GASOLINE ENGINE THEN TURNED ON EVEN THOUGH BATTERY WAS APPROXIMATELY 75% CHARGED. WHILE DRIVING I NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD DIFFICULTY WITH ACCELERATION AS WELL AS DECELERATION; AS A RESULT, I ELECTED TO TAKE THE SIDE STREETS INSTEAD OF THE INTERSTATE

WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY AND THE MAIN HIGH VOLTAGE BATTERY IS DEPLETED, I HAVE A SUDDEN REDUCTION IN SPEED AND ZERO ACCELERATION. I GET A DASHBOARD ALERT "PROPULSION POWER REDUCED". "REDUCED" IS AN UNDERSTATEMENT! THE GAS ENGINE TRIES TO KEEP UP WITH SPEED BY RAMPING UP THE RMPS. THE SUDDEN LOSS OF SPEED FORCES OTHER CARS TO AVOID ME AND I CANNOT INCREASE MY SPEED IF NEEDED. I EXPECT I WILL BE REAR ENDED OR LOSE CONTROL WHEN THIS HAPPENS AGAIN. ENGINE REVS EXTREMELY HIGH. I USUALLY PULL OVER AND TURN OFF VEHICLE- SOMETIMES A RESTARTS FIXES IT. I HAVE ALSO WAITED (5 MINS?) WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING AT HIGH RMPS HOPING THE BATTERY WOULD RECOVER, BUT NO. I ALSO FEAR THE GAS ENGINE WILL OVERHEAT. THE CAR CAN NO LONGER DRIVE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS SAFELY AFTER DEPLETION AND CANNOT ACCELERATE SUFFICIENTLY EVEN IN A 30MPH ZONE. THIS IS A CONTINUING ISSUE AND HAS HAPPENED FOR THE PAST SEVERAL DAYS. THE DEALERSHIP SAYS THE HIGH VOLTAGE BATTERY IS BAD, BUT THE MAIN BATTERY CHARGES AND DRIVES FINE UNTIL IT IS DEPLETED. I NOW DON'T DRIVE FARTHER THAN WHAT THE EV BATTERY CAN ACHIEVE. 2013 CHEVY VOLT STOPPED ACCELERATING AND RECEIVED A LOW PROPULSION WHILE DRIVING ON A STATE ROUTE IN OHIO. OUR SON WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE AND COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED IF THIS WAS ON A HIGHWAY. THE VOLT WOULD NOT MOVE AND HE HAD TO TRY TO GLIDE OFF THE ROAD SINCE IT HAD NO POWER. HE PUSHED THE CAR OFF THE ROAD SO IT WOULD NOT BE HIT. IF THIS SITUATION WOULD HAVE OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, OUR SON COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED. THIS PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED TO OTHER VOLT OWNERS IF YOU LOOK THIS ISSUE UP ON THE INTERNET. WHY HASN'T GM FIXED THIS ISSUE SO PEOPLE ARE SAFE WHEN DRIVING THIS VEHICLE? WE BROUGHT OUR VOLT INTO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT, THIS CAR IS NOW GOING ON 3 WEEKS AND WE STILL DO NOT HAVE OUR CAR BACK. THEY FIRST SAID IT WAS A SHORT IN THE ELECTRICAL MODULE, AND REPLACED PARTS. NOW THEY ARE STATING THAT IT DID NOT WORK AND IT IS THE TRANSMISSION. I AM NOT SURE THEY KNOW WHAT IS REALLY WRONG WITH THIS VOLT. THEY ARE NOW ASKING US TO PAY $3661 TO HAVE THIS TRANSMISSION REPLACE AND GM WILL PAY 2000 OR IT WOULD BE 5661. I DO NOT CARE WHAT IT IS I JUST WANT A SAFE CAR FOR MY SON TO DRIVE. IT SEEMS LIKE THEY ARE BACK PEDALING TO TRY TO NOT PAY FOR SOMETHING THAT THEY (GM) SHOULD PAY FOR. IT IS A SAFETY HAZARD WHEN PULLING ONTO A HIGHWAY OR NEEDING TO ACCELERATE TO AVOID A ACCIDENT. CHEVROLET SAYS NOTHING IS WRONG AND REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE ISSUE NOT WANTING TO HONOR ELECTRIC WARRANTY.

ON SEPT. 5TH 2018 I HIT THE CENTER ISLAND WHILE TURNING ON THE CITY STREET AT ABOUT 15MPH. THE IMPACT WAS SO SLIGHT THAT THE AIR BAGS DIDN'T EVEN DEPLOY. I WAS ABLE TO GET IT TO THE DEALERS ON IT'S OWN POWER. MY INSURANCE COMPANY SENT THEIR APPRAISER ,JEREMY , TO INSPECT THE DAMAGE. I HAD TO GET SOME ITEMS OUT OF MY CAR BEFORE THAT. THE MECHANIC HAD THE CAR ON THE RACK SO HE COULD SHOW ME. THE ONLY DAMAGE I READILY NOTICED WAS THE RADIATORS WERE CRUSHED, A 2 1/2" SQUARE FRAME CROSS MEMBER HAD A 1 1/2" DENT WHERE IT HAD IMPACTED THE ISLAND , AND SOME PANELS- NOTICEABLY THE FRONT UNDERSIDE AND DRIVER SIDE FRONT WHEEL WELL WERE DAMAGED. LATER JEREMY CALLED ME AND TOLD ME THE CAR WAS A TOTAL LOSS.HE SAID THE ENTIRE FRAME WAS BENT OUT OF SHAPE. I COULDN'T BELIEVE IT. IN HIS REPORT HE ITEMIZED THE PARTS BUT ABOUT THE PROPULSION SYSTEM HE WROTE, CONDITIONS EXIST THAT THE ELECTRICAL MOTORS COULD START UP THE GAS ENGINE AND FLOOD THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT WITH CO. WELL IF THAT'S THE CASE, WHY DON'T THEY SIMPLY REPLACE THE COMPONENTS THAT WOULD LEAD TO THAT CONDITION OR IF IT WAS INHERENT IN THE CAR, WHY DOESN'T THE DOT DECLARE THE CAR A ROAD HAZZARD AND RECALL ALL VEHICLES? LN CONSUMER REPORTS THEY DECLARED THE VOLT SCORED 5 OUT OF A POSSIBLE 5 RATING ON COLLISION SURVIVAL. WHAT? THE CAR RUNNING AT 15 MPH GETTING TOTALLED BY HITTING A BUMP IS A 5? I THINK MR. JEREMY IS PADDING ALL HIS ESTIMATES AND SHOULD HAVE AN INDEPENDENT APPRAISER REVIEW THE CAR. EITHER HE IS LYING OR THE CAR IS ACTUALLY A LEMON. I'VE BROUGHT MY 2013 CHEVY VOLT TO THE DEALERSHIP 4 TIMES BECAUSE IT DIES SUDDENLY WHILE DRIVING. IT HAS PUT MY FAMILY IN DANGER MULTIPLE TIMES. ONE OF THE "FIXES" WAS A SOFTWARE UPDATE THAT ENDED UP AS A RECALL BECAUSE IT CAUSES THE ENGINE TO DIE SUDDENLY (IT'S RECALL #N172130460, WHICH CAME OUT TWO DAYS BEFORE MY LATEST INCIDENT, BUT I DIDN'T RECEIVE THE RECALL NOTICE IN THE MAIL UNTIL 7/28/18...6 WEEKS AFTER MY LAST INCIDENT). THE MOST RECENT TIME THE CAR DIED (6/16/18), I WAS ON A MOUNTAIN HIGHWAY AND I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO NOT GET HIT AS I PULLED THE CAR TO THE SIDE. THERE WAS NO SIGNAGE THERE EXCEPT FOR THE "CAUTION BEAR XING" SIGN. AFTER TOWING MY CAR TO THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP (IN CARSON CITY, NV, AN 8 HOUR ORDEAL), I HAD EXPENSES FOR LODGING AND TRANSPORTATION (INCLUDING LYFT TO SOUTH LAKE TAHOE TO RENT A CAR BECAUSE NO RENTAL CAR OFFICES OPEN ON SUNDAY IN CARSON CITY, THEN FLYING TO RENO AND TAKING A LYFT TO CARSON CITY TO PICK UP THE CAR BECAUSE CHEVY REFUSED TO SHIP THE CAR TO ME EVEN THOUGH I SAID THAT I WAS AFRAID AND DIDN'T TRUST THE CAR IN THE MOUNTAINS). CHEVY CUSTOMER SERVICE AND CONCIERGE SERVICES REFUSED TO REIMBURSE ME BECAUSE I HAD THE CAR TOWED MYSELF INSTEAD OF CALLING THEIR "CONCIERGE SERVICE" TO TOW IT BECAUSE THAT'S "POLICY." HOW ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THEIR CUSTOMERS SO THAT THEY MAY LIVE TO DRIVE ANOTHER DAY? I'M NOT ASKING FOR ANYTHING MORE THAN THE EXPENSES INCURRED FROM THE LAST ADVENTURE: $1040.72, WHICH I CAN ITEMIZE. OTHER TIMES THAT MY CAR HAS DIED INCLUDE: WHILE MAKING A U-TURN IN A BUSY INTERSECTION (IN 2016), IT DIED AND STARTED BACK UP AS IF NOTHING HAPPENED 20 MINUTES LATER AND A SEPARATE TIME WAS WHEN THE CAR WOULDN'T START AT ALL BUT THEN STARTED UP AGAIN TWO HOURS LATER AS IF THERE WAS NEVER AN ISSUE.EVERY TIME THIS HAPPENED, I HAD A "POWER PROPULSION REDUCED" WARNING ON MY DASHBOARD. I SEE ONLINE THAT MANY HAVE HAD THIS ISSUE.

WHILE DRIVING DOWN A ROAD IN INDIANAPOLIS AT 35 MILES PER HOUR, MY CAR SUDDENLY SLOWED DOWN AND A MESSAGE READING " ENGINE NOT AVAILABLE - SERVICE SOON" APPEARED ON MY HUD. MY CAR ONLY HAS 32,800 MILES ON IT AND A CLEAN TITLE. NOTHING ABOUT MY DRIVING CHANGED TO CAUSE THIS ISSUE, IT WAS SUDDEN AND WITHOUT APPARENT CAUSE. I HAD THE CAR TAKEN TO THE MECHANIC, AND GM JUST RESET THE CODES. IT IS DRIVING OK FOR NOW, BUT A RESET OF CODES IS A TEMPORARY FIX TO THE ISSUE, AND I'VE READ EXTENSIVELY ABOUT MANY, MANY OTHER VOLT OWNERS WITH THE SAME ISSUE. IT IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS TO HAVE YOUR ENGINE SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING, ESPECIALLY IF I HAD BEEN ON THE HIGH WAY DURING RUSH HOUR. THIS IS SOMETHING THAT NEEDS LOOKED INTO, AND I FEEL THAT GM IS TRYING TO BURY IT WITH RESETS WHICH AREN'T WORKING FOR MOST PEOPLE.

A WARNING MESSAGE APPEARED ON THE DASH, WHICH SAID "PROPULSION POWER IS REDUCED," FOLLOWED BY, "ENGINE NOT AVAILABLE. SERVICE SOON," AS WELL AS A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. I PRESSED THE ONSTAR BUTTON TO FIND OUT WHAT WAS WRONG BUT THEY HAD NEVER HEARD OF THE ERROR MESSAGE AND COULD NOT ESTABLISH COMMUNICATION WITH THE VEHICLE TO PERFORM DIAGNOSTICS. WHILE ON HOLD WITH ONSTAR, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SPONTANEOUSLY DECELERATE VERY RAPIDLY DESPITE MY ATTEMPTS TO ACCELERATE, IN THE MIDDLE OF FAST HIGHWAY TRAFFIC. I MADE IT OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD SAFELY, LIMPING ALONG AT 3-10 MPH, WITH THE HELP OF A GOOD SAMARITAN WHO BLOCKED TRAFFIC FOR ME. THE INCIDENT OCCURRED ON 8/27/14, AND RESULTED IN MY WIFE ME TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL AND TREATED FOR CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING. THE INCIDENT OCCURRED AT OUR HOME. THE VOLT WAS PARKED IN THE ENCLOSED GARAGE ON 8/26 AROUND 7PM. THE 240 VOLT CHARGER WAS PLUGGED IN AS USUAL. I DID NOT NOTICE ANYTHING UNUSUAL AFTER PLUGGING IN THE CHARGER, AND THE VOLT WAS LEFT UNATTENDED UNTIL THE EMS ARRIVED AROUND 11AM THE FOLLOWING DAY. THE EMS PERSONNEL FOUND THE ENGINE RUNNING, VERY HIGH LEVELS OF CO UPON ENTERING THE GARAGE AND EVEN HIGHER LEVELS INSIDE THE CAR. THE INSIDE OF THE PASSAGE COMPARTMENT WAS DESCRIBED AS HOT. THE FRONT EXTERIOR OF THE CAR WAS TO HOT TO TOUCH AND THE CAR REAR WARM. THE TEMPERATURE UNDER THE CAR HOOD WAS DESCRIBED AS "RED HOT". THE ENGINE HAD CONSUMED AROUND 5 GALLONS OF GAS DURING THIS TIME PERIOD. DISTRIBUTION OF THE CO THROUGHOUT THE HOUSE WAS PROBABLY CAUSED BY THE A/C AIR HANDLER WHICH IS LOCATED INSIDE THE GARAGE. DATA DUMPS REVEALED POWER AND STARTING BATTERIES WERE EXHAUSTED, AND NO FAULT FLAGS DROPPED. I BELIEVE THE INCIDENT HAS REVEALED: -THE TEMPERATURE LEVELS REACHED UNDER THE HOOD PROBABLY EXCEEDED THE SAFE OPERATING LEVELS OF THE DIGITAL SYSTEMS SOLID STATE JUNCTIONS RENDERING ANY DATA COLLECTED (OR NOT COLLECTED) AS UNRELIABLE. -THE LITHIUM ION AND STARTING BATTERIES WERE TOTALLY W/O CHARGE. HOW CAN THIS HAPPEN WHEN THE SOLE FUNCTION OF THE GAS ENGINE ( WHICH WAS RUNNING WHEN DISCOVERED BY THE FIREMEN ) IS TO CHARGE THESE BATTERIES UNLESS A FAILURE OCCURRED. I RECEIVED THE FOLLOWING MESSAGE ON THE CAR DASH DISPLAY: PROPULSION REDUCED-ENGINE NOT AVAILABLE. THIS MESSAGE CAME ON WHILE I WAS DRIVING IN THE CARPOOL LANE. I CALLED GM THRU ON STAR AND WAS TOLD THAT I HAD A CATASTROPHIC ERROR AND NEEDED TO GET MY CAR INTO REPAIR WITH 24 HOURS. WITH ONLY 6 MILES LEFT ON THE BATTERY, I TOLD THE GM REP THAT I BETTER GET THE CAR TO A CHEVY DEALER. I IMMEDIATELY DROVE TO THE DEALERSHIP IN CULVER CITY. THE MINUTE I PULLED INTO THE DRIVEWAY OF THE DEALERSHIP, MY CAR STOPPED AND WOULD NOT RESTART. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A DISASTER IF THE CAR HAD STOPPED IN THE CARPOOL LANE. I HAVE READ OF OTHER COMPLAINTS ON GOOGLE AND YAHOO. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT THEY WERE GOING TO REPLACE THE ENGINE MODULE, WHICH THEY SAID WOULD TAKE 8 HOURS TO REPAIR, BUT WHEN I PICKED UP THE CAR, THEY ONLY REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION MODULE. SINCE THE INCIDENT, I ONLY GET A FULL CHARGE OF 32 TO 34 MILES, WHERE BEFORE THE INCIDENT I WAS GETTING A FULL CHARGE OF 42 TO 44 MILES PER CHARGE. I LEASED A NEW 2013 VOLT ON FRIDAY AND DROVE IT TO WORK AND HOME ON MONDAY. THE BATTERY DISPLAY SHOWED IT WAS AT MINIMUM, ZERO MILES REMAINING. THE VOLT WAS RUNNING WITH THE INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE. AS I PULLED OUT OF A PARKING LOT, "'PROPULSION POWER IS REDUCED"', "'ENGINE NOT AVAILABLE"', AND "SERVICE STABILITRAC" DISPLAYED ON THE DRIVER INFORMATION CENTER. AFTER GOING ABOUT 500 FEET, I STOPPED AT AN INTERSECTION TO MAKE A LEFT TURN AND THE VOLT STALLED. I TURNED ON THE FLASHERS AND ATTEMPTED TO RESTORE POWER BY PRESSING THE BRAKE AND THE POWER BUTTON. THE DISPLAYS LIT UP BUT THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER CONTINUED TO DISPLAY "'INITIALIZING-WAIT TO SHIFT"'. I TURNED THE VOLT OFF BY PRESSING THE POWER BUTTON AGAIN AND ATTEMPTED TO RESTORE POWER SEVERAL TIMES WITH THE SAME RESULT. CARS BEHIND ME WERE ATTEMPTING TO PULL AROUND ON THE LEFT SIDE BUT WERE BLOCKED BY CARS TURNING ONTO THE TWO-LANE STREET. I PUSHED THE ON-STAR BUTTON AND REQUESTED ASSISTANCE. SOON, A VOLT SPECIALIST CAME ON THE LINE AND SAID SHE SUSPECTED THE SECURITY SYSTEM OR THE 12V BATTERY. SHE HAD ME TURN EVERYTHING OFF AND WALK 200 FEET FROM THE CAR. WHEN I RETURNED AND TRIED TO START THE VOLT, IT STARTED BRIEFLY BUT SHUT DOWN. SHE SAID THE 12V BATTERY MIGHT BE LOW AND THEY WOULD HAVE THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER BRING BOOSTER CABLES TO CHARGE THE BATTERY. I HAD MANAGED TO PUSH THE VOLT TO THE CURB AND GOT SOME CABLES TO BOOST IT. THE VOLT INITIALIZED AND THE DISPLAYS LOOKED NORMAL. I DROVE TO THE NEXT INTERSECTION AND STOPPED FOR THE LIGHT. WHEN THE LIGHT CHANGED, IT STALLED AGAIN. I WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE TO MY HOUSE ON BATTERY POWER BUT IT WOULD NOT GO UP THE SLOPE OF THE DRIVEWAY. I TRIED TO CHARGE IT BUT THE CHARGE CYCLE WOULD NOT START.
