I own a 2013 Chrysler 200. While parked at a gas station the front driver’s headrest deployed without warning. I contacted a dealer where I was informed that the headrest needed to be replaced out of pocket. I was informed that the vehicle no longer qualified to be serviced under the recall. Mileage was around 135,000 when this occurred.

Active Headrest system deployed without collision on the passenger side. Could have impacted passenger and caused serious head injury. Vehicle was taken to dealer and directed me to Chryslers customer hotline. They were reluctant to do anything and were trying to put the blame on me. They said they would call back in the next 2-3 business days to examine the vehicle after much back and forth. There were no warning signs that the headrest would deploy and no prior notice from the manufacture.

Multiple issues, passenger window is a very common issue, looked on YouTube and found many videos for it was able to jump with direct power to the pigtail using wires and a battery and was able to roll it up but no explanation for why it ends up having this issue, heater core also a consistent issue, it is obvious with passenger side goes cold and 95% of the fix is a new heater core. Headrests popping, had the safety recall done 02chz28 (Recall S61) and never was mentioned or brought up by local dealer, both seatbelts are not functioning properly, passenger side is the worst, locks up and both are running along the plastic causing it to become deformed and wearing on the edges of the belts. Vehicle has obvious replacements on the front but no accident history. Hood is a different vin number and grill is not original from factory. I found the original photo of the car's first sale post. Odd malfunction is washer fluid can run out with no indicator being triggered for low fluid.

While driving, the safety mechanism on my driver's seat headrest malfunctioned and launched forward. I was distracted for a minute after while I tried to figure out what just happened. At first I thought someone rear ended me until I saw there was no one behind me. I saw what happened to the headrest after I pulled into a gas station. I didn't take it to a mechanic because they would've wanted over $700 to replace it, which I can't afford. I replaced it myself with a headrest I bought on EBay. I still have the malfunctioned headrest because I'm not sure at this point what to do with it. There was no prior warning of any kind.

Broken active head restraint while placing the passenger seat in a slight reclining position. It broke the rod and plastic in the head rest so that it separates (no support for the head). Meaning there is a chance of possible injury to the head and neck of the passenger in the event of an accident.

While driving, my driver seat headrest deployed. There was no collision to activate the headrest to deploy. It did so spontaneously. This could have caused a major accident due to me being startled. I am concerned for my daughter’s safety and mine. There were no recalls for the headrests reported in my vehicle. There was no indication that the headrests in my vehicle would be an issue. I will be taking the vehicle to CarMax, where I purchased it and to the Chrysler dealership to seek a solution

When my son was adjusting the seat to his height and reach, the headrest (commonly known as an AHR from my research) popped open. I was not hurt but could have been if I wasn't leaning forward at the time. I understand Fiat Chrysler is under a class action lawsuit for this very defect, yet my car is not part of the recall. Does this mean they are not liable? Do I have to join the class action lawsuit to get them to repair my headrest at no cost to me? I can take photos but I'm using an i-phone and my computer does not recognize the file extension. Drivers side headrest deployed while driving the car. No collisions just regular driving. Dealership says I have to pay to have it repaired. This is a safety issue that I should not have to pay for. Apparently it has happened to a lot of Chrysler cars. The headrest is not fixed and is available for inspection if needed.

THE CAR WAS IN NO ACCIDENT AND WAS SITTING IN THE DRIVEWAY OF MY HOME. UPON INSPECTION THE PLASTIC THAT HOLDS THE ROD BROKE INSIDE THE ACTIVE HEAD REST. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE AND DEPLOYED FOR NO REASON. IT IS HIGHLY CONCERNING THAT THE HEAD REST COULD GO OFF AT ANY MINUTE DUE TO THE POOR DESIGN AND QUALITY OF THE HEADREST. HAVING LOOKED AT RECALL INFORMATION AND OTHER INCIDENT REPORTS, I BELIEVE THIS TO BE IN THE SAME CATEGORY OF SOME OTHER COMPLAINTS REGARDING HEADREST FAILURES. DRIVER SEAT HEADREST DEPLOYED WHILE DRIVING ON SMOOTH HIGHWAY SURFACE AT 70MPH MAKING A LARGE NOISE AND HITTING HARD THE BACK OF DRIVER'S HEAD. THERE WERE NO LIGHTS OR INDICATION OF PROBLEMS ON THE DASH BOARD. AFTER I EXAMINED THE HEADREST THE PLASTIC HOLDING THE METAL BAR HAD DETERIORATED SO THAT THE BAR COULD NOT BE PLACED BACK IN ITS ORIGINAL SPOT, AND THE BAR WAS FOUND IN THE CLAMP BELOW. THE CLAMP WAS STILL LOCKED. THE HEADREST COULD NOT BE RESET SINCE THE PLASTIC WAS BROKEN. THE HEADREST IN THIS VEHICLE HAS HAD 3 RECALLS FOR NOT DEPLOYING IN AN ACCIDENT AND ALL HAVE BEEN SERVICED ON THIS VEHICLE. THIS VEHICLE HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT AND HAS HAD NO REASON TO DEPLOY. THE FORCE WHEN DEPLOYING CAN CAUSE NECK OR HEAD INJURIES TO THE OCCUPANT AND THEREFORE THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD. THE COMPANY WOULD NOT COVER REPLACEMENT AND THE TOTAL COST TO REPLACE THE HEADREST AND INSTALL CAME TO $730. AFTER DISCOUNTED WITH A COUPON FOR 12%.

AT APPROXIMATELY 3:10PM ON 8/29/19, THE CAR WAS ON AND IN PARK WITH THE AC TURNED ON, AS MY SON IN LAW WAS PLACING HIS 33-MONTH BABY IN THE CAR SEAT, LOCATED BEHIND THE DRIVERS SEAT. MY SON IN LAW SAT DOWN IN THE DRIVER SEAT AND WAS PULLING HIS FEET INTO THE VEHICLE WHEN HE HEARD A LOUD BLAST AND FELT THE SEAT HEADREST EXPLODE AGAINST HIS NECK AND BACK. HE STATES HE MAY HAVE BLACKED OUT FOR AN UNDETERMINED TIME. ALTHOUGH HE WAS DISORIENTED, HE THEN TURNED AROUND IN THE SEAT TO CHECK ON HIS SON, WHO WAS CRYING. HE NOTED THAT THE HEADREST WAS SPLIT APART. NO NOTATION OF ANY DUST OR PARTICLES WERE NOTED. HE THEN DROVE THE VEHICLE HOME AND PARKED IT IN THE DRIVEWAY AT OUR HOME. MY SON IN LAW HAD BAD HEADACHES THAT NIGHT, SO I ENCOURAGED HIM TO GO TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM TO BE CHECKED. THE ER PHYSICIAN FELT THAT HE DID HAVE A CONCUSSION AND GAVE HIM INSTRUCTIONS ON CARE POST-CONCUSSION. CHRYSLER IS SENDING A TECHNICIAN TO CHECK THE CAR. I HAVE SIGNED AN AGREEMENT THAT ALLOWS THEM TO REVIEW THE ORC (OCCUPANT RESTRAINT CONTROLLER) AND THE EDR (EVENT DATA RECORD) AND TO SHARE THIS INFORMATION WITH THE NHTSA. THIS CAR WAS PURCHASED IN MAY OR JUNE 2016 FROM CARMAX IN AUSTIN TEXAS AND HAS BEEN IN FOR ALL RECALLS SINCE THAT TIME. ON AUGUST 20TH I NOTICED THE HEADREST ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT HAD DEPLOYED. THE HEADREST MECHANISM DEPLOYED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED. I NOTICED SEVERAL SMALL PIECES OF BLACK PLASTIC ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. UPON EXAMINING THE HEADREST, I SAW THAT THE PLASTIC WHICH WAS SUPPOSED TO HOLD A SPRING MECHANISM HAD FAILED. THE ACTIVE HEAD RESTRAINT WAS ALLEGEDLY FIXED DURING AN EARLIER CHRYSLER RECALL, AS THERE WERE ISSUES WITH THE ARH NOT DEPLOYING. IT NOW APPEARS THAT THE FIX MAY BE CALIBRATED TOO SENSITIVE AND THE AHR DEPLOYS WITH NO TRIGGER EVENT. MY CHRYSLER 200 HAD 51,000 MILES WHEN THIS OCCURRED; IT IS STILL COVER BY A PLATINUM SERVICE CONTRACT ALTHOUGH THE DEALER IS BALKING AT ALLOWING THE REPAIR UNDER WARRANTY. THE DEFECTIVE HEADREST IS STILL INSTALLED IN THE CAR. I AM CONTACTING CHRYSLER TO MAKE THE NEEDED REPAIRS AS WELL.

ON THE EVENING OF MAY 3RD, 2016 I RETURNED TO MY VEHICLE AFTER WORK TO FIND THAT THE DRIVER HEAD RESTRAINT HAD BEEN DEPLOYED FOR UNKNOWN REASONS. EARLIER THAT DAY I WENT TO THE BANK ALL WAS WELL THE HEAD RESTRAINT WAS COMPLETELY INTACT. AT APPROXIMATELY 5:05PM I RETURNED TO MY VEHICLE TO HEAD HOME AND NOTICED THAT I COULD NOT REST MY HEAD AS I DO ON A DAILY BASIS ON MY DRIVE HOME. MY CONCERNS ARE THAT IF I WERE DRIVING IN TRAFFIC OR ON THE FREEWAY AND IT UNEXPECTEDLY DEPLOYED POTENTIALLY CAUSING AN ACCIDENT OR WORSE DUE TO A CHAIN REACTION. I IMMEDIATELY CONTACTED THE CHRYSLER RECALL CENTER. FILED A COMPLAINT, ISSUED A CASE NUMBER AND WAS TOLD THAT SOMEONE WOULD BE CONTACTING ME TO INVESTIGATE WITH A POSSIBLE RESOLUTION. I HAVE NOT BEEN CONTACTED AS OF 5/9/2016. I ALSO FOLLOWED UP ON THE CASE FRIDAY MAY 6TH . THE CASE NUMBER HAD NOT BEEN ASSIGNED.
