The contact owns a 2012 Chrysler 300. The contact stated that while driving at 65 MPH, the temperature gauge had independently increased levels. The contact managed to pull over to the shoulder of the road and was able to restart the vehicle as a temporary repair. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, white smoke had leaked through the air vent into the interior cabin before independently shifting the gear into neutral. In addition, a fire had started from under the hood of the vehicle. No warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that a couple of nearby pedestrians attempted to extinguish the fire, but were unsuccessful due to the size of the fire. The contact had COPD, which was impacted during the failure, and medical attention was sought for a heart-related issue. The fire department arrived on the scene to extinguish the fire. A report was filed; however, it was unclear if either the local Fire department or Police department had filed the report. The vehicle was towed to a local tow lot, where it remained and was declared a total loss. The local dealer was contacted. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 123,000.

this car was crashed June 10 2023, owner went to hospital and car was towed and took to an auto pound .After 24 hours they told us a private company tolled it or stole it .we reported it stolen and payed a report and that's how I got the info of an independent mechanic trying to fix it. im trying to find my car and the report told me you guys have it.

Car was stalling and had electrical issues. I paid to get it fixed but never knew there was a recall for my vehicles alternator. The vehicle battery dies fairly quickly from time to time still and every know and then I have to call AAA to jump my car and they say my battery is good. Chrysler's number for this recall is T36. I never received a noticed.

Was on my way home from work and car completely lost power as I was preceding to go after stopping at a stop sign. I was LITERALLY in the middle of the road. Car wouldn't crank AT ALL. Engine started OVERHEATING causing smoke to disburse from engine. NO WARNING LIGHTS before this occurred. A big truck was coming down the road and I had to exist the vehicle. Luckily a car wasn't in the other lane so the truck went on the other side of the road. I was terrified! I called 911 to get a deputy dispatch to direct traffic around my car to avoid mutiple COLLISION. I had to have my vehicle towed. I never want another Chrysler again these cars are UNSAFE. I could have died what if my child was in the car?! I took my car to a mechanic to put on computer scanner and it gave off SEVEN codes ALL due to ELECTRICAL ISSUES! CAR IS APPARENTLY STUCK IN LIMP MODE IDK I'M SO CONFUSED AND DISAPPOINTED. I reported the issue to Chrysler recall line and they did NOTHING.

My vehicle stalls when placed from reverse to drive and the check engine light blinks and goes to Eco mode which makes the car shake. I’ve had a tuneup, oil change, brakes, O2 sensor and spark plugs replaced and the issues still exist. The car also will initiate skid control without warning or pressing the button which slows the car down and causes the engine to rev above 3-6rpm

The contact owns a 2012 Chrysler 300. The contact stated that while driving approximately 30 MPH, the vehicle unintendedly downshifted and stalled. The contact shifted the vehicle into park(P) and restarted the vehicle however, the engine revved but the vehicle failed to move forward. The vehicle was towed the residence. The following day the vehicle started and drove as designed; however, the vehicle would not reverse. The contact stated that several unknown warning lights were illuminated. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 CHRYSLER 300. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE'S THERMOSTAT RAN HOT. WHILE ACCELERATING, THE THERMOSTAT WOULD RESET TO NORMAL. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT WHILE ACCELERATING AT 55 MPH, THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF AND THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL (ETC) WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT HAD TO WAIT THIRTY MINUTES BEFORE THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE RESTARTED AND RESUME NORMAL DRIVING. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE THERMOSTAT WAS REPLACED, BUT NO ERROR CODES COULD BE FOUND REGARDING THE ETC. DESPITE THE THERMOSTAT REPLACEMENT, THE FAILURES PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER AND DEALER WERE NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 132,000.

WHILE DRIVING MY CAR DURING A STOPLIGHT IT SUDDENLY STALLED AND DIED. MY GEAR WAS STILL IN DRIVE. I TRIED TO RESTART MY CAR BUT IT WASNT ABLE TO START IT JUS KEPT MAKING A CLICKING SOUND LIKE IT WAS TRYING TO START BUT COULDNT AND LAST FOR 30 SECS. I WASNT ABLE TO PUT THE GEAR INTO NEUTRAL. SO IN WAS STALLED OK THE ROAD. AFTER TRYING TO ATTEMPT TO RESTART THE ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON. I AM VERY FRUSTRATED BECAUSE I JUST GOT MY CAR BACK FROM THE DEALERSHIP AFTER THEM REPLACING MY WATER PUMP AND THERMOSTAT TWICE 1 YEAR APART. NOW IT'S BACK AT THE SHOP AND I HAVE TO PAY 140 TO HAVE THEM DIAGNOSE IT AFTER SPENDING 1200. I CHECKED MY WARRANTY AND SERVICE CONTRACT AND THEY ALL EXPIRED.

WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED (70MPH), THE OIL PRESSURE SUDDENLY DROPPED FROM A NORMAL 55+PSI TO ABOUT 15PSI AND THE ENGINE STARTED TO VIBRATE BAD AND RUN ERADICALLY. SLOWING DOWN AND STOPPING, IT FELT LIKE IT WAS GOING TO STALL MAKING IT MUCH, MUCH HARDER TO STEER THE VEHICLE AND SLOW DOWN DUE TO THE LACK OF VACUUM CREATED BY THE ENGINE TO ASSIST WITH THE POWER BRAKES AND RPM'S NEEDED TO PROVIDE POWER STEERING ASSIST. OIL PRESSURE DROPPED TO ABOUT 5PSI AT IDLE. NO KNOCKING SOUND FROM THE LOWER END OF THE ENGINE, JUST VALVETRAIN TAPPING/TICKING. THIS VEHICLE NEEDS TOWED. THIS IS A LOW MILEAGE VEHICLE-WELL UNDER 100K MILES AND DOCUMENTED CARE. THERE ARE MANY, MANY HEMI EQUIPPED VEHICLES ON THE ROAD AND AT DEALERSHIPS THAT HAVE THESE RELATED TIMING CHAINS BREAKING / TIMING CHAIN TENSIONERS BREAKING AND FAILING, CAMSHAFT AND LIFTERS GRINDING THEMSELVES AWAY BUT, VERY FEW ARE REPORTED AS EITHER TSB'S OR RECALLS. 5.7 HEMI DEFECTIVE LIFTER. THE 2012 5.7 HEMIS USED DEFECTIVE LIFTERS, HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE LIFTERS FAILING CAN BE FOUND ON DODGE FORUMS ACROSS THE INTERNET. WHAT HAPPENS, IS THE ROLLER ON THE LIFTER THAT ROLLS ALONG THE CAMSHAFT IS PRONE TO LOCKING UP, IT THEN GRINDS INTO THE CAMSHAFT. THIS CAN LEAD TO MISFIRES AND CAUSE METAL FLAKES TO CIRCULATE THROUGH THE ENGINE VIA OIL. IF LEFT UNCHECKED, IT MAY ALSO LEAD TO A TOTAL ENGINE FAILURE. I HAVE SEEN COMPLAINTS OF THIS ON ALL CHRYSLER PRODUCTS THAT HAVE A 5.7L, DURANGO, CHARGER, CHALLENGER, RAM, AND JEEP AND FROM MY RESEARCH, I SEE THE BULK OF THESE FAILURES HAPPENING BETWEEN 80000 AND 120000 MILES, LIFTERS SHOULD NOT BE FAILING THAT SOON. IN MY CASE, AT APPROXIMATELY 160000 MILES, MAINLY HIGHWAY MILES, MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED, I SCANNED THE VEHICLE, IT WAS THROWING A CYLINDER 5 MISFIRE CODE, SO I STARTED SMALL. FIRST I REPLACED THE SPARK PLUGS, I THEN TRIED SWAPPING IGNITION COILS TO SEE IF THE CODE WOULD FOLLOW THE IGNITION COIL, IT DID NOT. I THEN TESTED MY FUEL SYSTEM, THE PUMP, THE FUEL RAILS, AND THE INJECTORS, ALL WERE WORKING NORMALLY. FOR ONE LAST EFFORT, I CHECKED MY AIR FLOW SYSTEM, THE MASS AIRFLOW SENSOR, THE BAROMETRIC PRESSURE SENSOR, THE MANIFOLD ABSOLUTE PRESSURE SENSOR, AND OF COURSE THE AIR FILTER. ALL WERE WORKING NORMALLY. I THEN TOOK THE VEHICLE INTO A DODGE DEALER, THEY TORE THE ENGINE DOWN AND FOUND THAT THE LIFTERS WERE FAILING, AFTER $2,000 TO REPAIR THE LIFTERS, THE CODE STILL PERSISTS. I REMOVED MY VALVE COVER AND WATCHED THE LIFTERS AS A FRIEND TRIED TO CRANK THE ENGINE, THE CYLINDER 5 LIFTER IS NOT TRAVELING AS MUCH AS THE OTHERS, THIS TELLS ME THAT THE CAMSHAFT HAS BEEN DUG INTO BY THE FAULTY LIFTER THAT WAS REPLACED AND IS WHY THE NEW LIFTER IS NOT TRAVELING AS MUCH AS IT SHOULD. IT WILL COST ANOTHER TWO GRAND TO REPLACE THE CAMSHAFT. PLEASE INVESTIGATE.

AS THE CONTACT PULLED THE VEHICLE OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY, THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED AND THE VEHICLE FAILED TO SHIFT AND ENGAGE INTO PARK. THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS ENGAGED AND THE WIPER BLADES INADVERTENTLY ACTIVATED. THE PUSH TO START/STOP BUTTON FAILED TO SHUT OFF THE VEHICLE, BUT THE VEHICLE EVENTUALLY TURNED ITSELF OFF. THE CONTACT CALLED A TOW TRUCK. THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER OPENED THE HOOD AND SMOKE WAS PRESENT. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO JUMPSTART THE VEHICLE, BUT THE BATTERY FAILED TO HOLD A CHARGE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO DARCARS CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM OF MARLOW HEIGHTS (5060 AUTH WAY, SUITLAND, MD 20746 (301) 423-5111) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH AN ALTERNATOR FAILURE. THE ALTERNATOR AND SERPENTINE BELT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AT DARCARS DUE TO THE COST; HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V240000 (POWER TRAIN). THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO PEP BOYS AUTO PARTS & SERVICE (6333 MARLBORO PIKE, FORESTVILLE, MD 20747 (301) 967-9140) WHERE THE ALTERNATOR AND SERPENTINE BELT WERE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES, BUT THE CONTACT AS UNAWARE IF A CASE WAS OPENED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 51,000.

AS LEAVING MY HOME AND GOING NO MORE THAN 15 MPH BECAUSE I WAS STILL IN A RESIDENTIAL NEIGHBORHOOD, I NOTICED THAT "BATTERY SAVER MODE" CAME ON THE DASH. WITHIN SECONDS, I NOTICED THE RADIO TURNED OFF AND THE CAR WAS SLOWING DOWN. I IMMEDIATELY TURNED AROUND AND AS I WAS RETURNING HOME (WHICH WOULD HAVE TAKEN ABOUT 60 SECONDS), THE CAR COMPLETED STOPPED. I STARTED TO NOTICE A BURNING SMELL, SO I TRIED TO PUT THE CAR IN PARK BUT IT WOULD NOT GO. I TRIED TO TURN THE CAR OFF, BUT NO SUCCESS. AS I WAS SMELLING THE BURNING SMELL, I DECIDED TO JUST OPEN THE CAR DOOR TO GET OUT AND IT WAS AT THAT TIME THE CAR JUST TURNED OFF. I CALLED THE DEALER AND DESCRIBED WHAT HAPPENED. THEY ADVISED THAT IT WAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH ALTERNATOR AND WOULD CHECK FOR RECALL. THEY CHECKED MY VIN AND ADVISED I WAS NOT INCLUDED IN RECALL, BUT OTHER 2012 CHRYSLER 300S HAD BEEN INCLUDED. AS I RESEARCHED ONLINE, MANY CONSUMERS WERE COMPLAINING ABOUT THIS SAME PROBLEM AND BEING TOLD THEY WERE NOT IN RECALL. I READ THE SYMPTOMS OF THE PROBLEM AS THE RECALL WAS NOTED AND I EXPERIENCED THE SAME THING. IN ADDITION, I WAS AFRAID THE CAR WAS GOING TO CATCH ON FIRE BY THE SMELL THAT WAS COMING IN THE CAR. HOPEFULLY, THIS PROBLEM CAN BE ADDRESSED.

I SMELLED SMOKE SO MY HUSBAND MERGED OVER TO THE FAR RIGHT, STILL TRAVELING ABOUT 50-55 MPH. THE CAR BEGAN TO SHUT DOWN, FIRST THE RADIO, THEN INSIDE PANEL LIGHTS, HEADLIGHTS, AIRBAG WARNING LIGHTS, BRAKE LIGHTS, WINDSHIELD WIPERS UP, AND CAR SLAMMED INTO PARK WHILE MOVING. FELT LIKE WE WERE REAR ENDED. VERY SCARY. LUCKILY, WE WERE ABLE TO COAST DOWNHILL OFF THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY, BARELY MAKING IT OFF, WITH THE BACKEND OF THE CAR IN JEOPARDY OF BEING HIT. THE THREE OF US WERE STRANDED THERE ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD UNTIL 1:30 AM, IN A NOT SO LIT AREA, UNTIL AAA ARRIVED. NONE OF US KNEW HOW TO PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL SO IT HAD TO BE FORCED ON AND OFF THE FLAT BED. THE NEXT DAY, I NOTIFIED CHRYSLER AND FOUND OUT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE ALTERNATOR FOR THIS SAME MAKE, MODEL AND YEAR. MY CARE # IS 30764006. HOWEVER, I WAS TOLD THAT MY CAR WAS NOT COVERED BECAUSE IT HAD A 180 AMP ALTERNATOR INSTEAD OF 160 AMP. I WAS TOLD BY [XXX] TO HAVE MY CAR TOWED TO MOTOR VILLAGE LA FOR AN OFFICIAL DIAGNOSIS AND THAT SHE (CHRYSLER) WOULD TRY TO HELP ME GET IT APPROVED TO BE FIXED UNDER THE RECALL. MOTOR VILLAGE QUOTED ME $1200 TO FIX AND DENIED THE RECALL CLAIM. MY FAMILY AND I ALMOST LOST OUR LIVES THAT EVENING, AND I WASTED TIME WITH CHRYSLER RECALL. WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 5 MPH IN A PARKING LOT, THE RADIO STATED CUTTING ON AND OFF, THE BATTERY ICON FLASHED ON AND OFF AND I LOST ALL POWER TO THE VEHICLE. I OPENED THE HOOD AND SMOKE WAS COMING FROM THE ALTERNATOR. AAA CAME AND TRIED TO JUMP -START THE VEHICLE, BUT THE BATTERY WAS COMPLETELY DEAD. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BATTERY WAS THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE BATTER AND THE ALTERNATOR WERE REPLACED. IN 2015, A LETTER WAS SENT TO CERTAIN CHRYSLER 300 OWNERS WHOSE VEHICLE WAS EQUIPPED WITH A 3.6L ENGINE AND A 160 AMP ALTERNATOR TO TAKE THEIR VEHICLE TO A CHRYSLER DEALER AND GET THE ALTERNATOR REPLACED, FREE OF CHARGE. THOSE OF US WITH A 180 AMP ALTERNATOR DID NOT QUALIFY. THOSE OF US WITH THE 180 AMP ALTERNATOR DID NOT QUALIFY. THE SAME PROBLEM THAT EXISTED WITH THE 160 AMP, ALSO EXIST WITH THE 180 AMP ALTERNATOR. I ALSO HAVE A LIFE- TIME WARRANTY, BUT I HAD TO PAY FOR THE BATTERY.

I WAS ABLE TO PULL IT OFF THE ROAD SAFELY BUT THEN I COULD NOT PUT THE CAR IN PARK OR SHUT DOWN THE ENGINE. THE CAR WAS THEN STARTING TO OVERHEAT AND A BURNING ELECTRICAL SMELL WAS NOTICEABLE. I WAS ABLE TO OPEN THE HOOD AND PULL OUT SOME FUSES TO FINALLY SHUT THE CAR DOWN BEFORE IT POTENTIALLY CAUGHT ON FIRE. I FELL THIS IS AN INHERIT SAFETY DANGE WITH THIS CAR. I SENT DO DEALER TO BE TOLD IT WAS THE ALTERNATOR WHICH IS VERY SCARY THAT THE CAR COULD DO THIS IF THE ALTERNATOR GOES. I SEEN THERE WAS A RECALL ON MY MODEL CAR BUT NOT FOR THE ONE I HAVE BUT SEEMS TO BE THE SAME PROBLEM AS THE PREVIOS RECALL FOR THE ALTERNATORS.

I TOOK THE CAR BACK HOME AND PARKED IT -- THEN HAD TO HAVE A NEW ALTERNATOR INSTALLED THE NEXT DAY. MECHANIC SAID THERE WAS DEFINITE EVIDENCE OF THE ALTERNATOR BURNING UP. AFTER PICKING UP THE VEHICLE WITH THE NEW ALTERNATOR -- MY HEAT WOULD NOT BLOW OUT THE FRONT VENTS. TURNS OUT THE ACTUATOR HAD GONE OUT. FAULTY ALTERNATOR, ALTERNATOR FAILS AND CARS ENGINE POWERS OFF WHILE DRIVING, FIRST "BATTERY SAVER MODE" INDICATER COMES ON ON MESSAGE BOARD THEN GOES OFF AND DEALER CANNOT FIND THE PROBLEM, IT COMES BACK ON FEW DAYS LATER AND GOES OFF. DEALER WILL NOT KNOW PROBLEM. AFTER MESSAGE IS DISPLAYED CAR IS RUNNING ON BATTERY POWER ONLY AND EVENTUALLY KILLS BATTERY AND ALTERNATOR. ON AUGUST 14TH 2014 I WAS DRIVING MY CHRYSLER 300S THROUGH TOWN AT 31MPH WHEN MY TRACTION AND ANTILOCK BRAKE LIGHTS CAME ON MY DASHBOARD. MY "BATTERY SAVE MODE" INFO ALSO ILLUMINATED ON THE DASHBOARD. I THEN HEARD A WHINING SOUND COMING FROM OUTSIDE THE CAR FROM UNDER THE HOOD. WE IMMEDIATELY PULL OVER INTO A GAS STATION AND OPENED THE HOOD AND THE ALTERNATOR WAS ON FIRE MELTING AND BURNING. WE IMMEDIATELY SHUT THE CAR OFF AND THE CAR IS COMPLETELY BROKE DOWN. NOTHING WORKS ON THE CAR NOW. WE HAD THE CAR TOWED HOME. I HAVE 42300 MILES ON THE CAR ONLY 6000 OUT OF WARRANTY AND THIS CAR IS CATCHING FIRE. IF I WOULD NOT HAVE PULLED OVER RIGHT AWAY I HATE TO THINK ABOUT HOW MY CHILDREN AND I COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED OR EVEN DEATH. *TR

DRIVING ON HIGHWAY WITH THE CRUISE SET AT 75 MILES PER HOUR WHEN ALL OF MY DASH LIGHTS CAME ON AND I HAD NO GAS POWER. I DIDN'T HEAR ANY NOISES OR NOTICE ANYTHING SUSPICIOUS. WHEN I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD THE CAR STOPS AND WOULDN'T START, I WAS 50 MILES FROM HOME AND HAD IT TOWED, THE DEALERSHIP TECH SAID THE ENGINE RAN OUT OF OIL, IT WAS FINE THE DAY BEFORE...LATER THEY SAY TIMING CHAIN WAS BROKE, NOW THEY ISSUED A TIMING CHAIN RECALL FOR MY MODEL YEAR AND THE CHRYSLER HAS OFFERED TO PAY HALF THE $7000 TO $8000 BILL, THIS SHOULD BE COVERED COMPLETELY INCLUDING MY 2 WEEK CAR RENTAL. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR REMAINED ILLUMINATED WITH A SLIGHT REDUCTION IN THE ENGINE POWER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AUTHORIZED DEALER, WHO WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. AN UNKNOWN REPAIR WAS PERFORMED AND THE WARNING INDICATOR NO LONGER ILLUMINATED. ON A SEPARATE OCCASION THE AIR CONDITIONER, RADIO AND REAR VIEW BACKUP CAMERA DISPLAY MONITOR FAILED TO FUNCTION. IN ADDITION, A SQUEAKING NOISE WAS HEARD FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER FOR A SECOND TIME WHERE THE BATTERY CABLE WAS DISENGAGED AND THEN RECONNECTED. AFTER THE REPAIR WAS PERFORMED A TICKING NOISE WAS HEARD FROM THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 16,000.
