The contact owns a 2006 Chrysler 300C. The contact stated that the fuel tank was previously replaced under an unknown extended warranty coverage; however, after the repair, the vehicle experienced a failure. The contact stated that after refueling the vehicle and driving at slow speeds, the vehicle stalled. The contact stated that the failure recurred several times while driving and coming to a complete stop. The vehicle was towed each time the failure occurred. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled in the middle of the road during the last failure. The contact was able to push the vehicle to the side of the road with assistance. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The vehicle was then towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed and test-driven, but the cause of the failure could not be determined. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 214,624.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHRYSLER 300. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS A STRONG GASOLINE ODOR THROUGHOUT THE VEHICLE UPON FILL-UP. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE SHUT-OFF WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, WITHOUT WARNING WHENEVER THE FUEL TANK WAS AT FULL CAPACITY. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO FREEDOM CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM BY ED MORSE (815 E CAMP WISDOM RD, DUNCANVILLE, TX 75116) WHERE THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE OR DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF FAILURE AND REFERRED HER BACK TO THE DEALER FOR ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 80,000.

OVER THE LAST COUPLE MONTHS AFTER REFUELING MY VEHICLE THE VEHICLE STALLS. IT HAS BECOME A GIVEN THAT AFTER I FILL MY CAR I KNOW AT SOME POINT WITHIN THE FIRST 5-10 MINUTES I WILL START HAVING PROPULSION ISSUES. THE CAR DIES WHEN I'M SITTING AT TRAFFIC LIGHTS. I'M AFRAID TO TRY AND ENTER A FREEWAY DIRECTLY AFTER REFUELING BECAUSE IF I GO TO HIT THE GAS IT'S AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN. IN JANUARY 2013, I FILED A VEHICLE SAFETY COMPLAINT HERE ABOUT MY V8 ENGINE STALLING AFTER FUEL REFILL (GASOLINE TANK REPLACEMENT REPAIR BILL WAS $1540.93). THE NHTSA OFFICE OF DEFECTS INVESTIGATION SOON OPENED INVESTIGATION PE13016 INTO THE FUEL TANK PROBLEM. THE ODI INFORMATION REQUEST TO CHRYSLER CITED NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS, INCLUDING MINE. INVESTIGATION PE13016 WAS CLOSED EARLIER THIS YEAR BY NHTSA BECAUSE THE "CONDITION IS ADEQUATELY ADDRESSED BY CHRYSLER'S EXTENDED WARRANTY" ON 2006 CHRYSLER 300 FUEL TANKS. THE CLOSING SUMMARY REFERS TO CHRYSLER SENDING LETTERS TO OWNERS ABOUT THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. SINCE I DID NOT RECEIVE AN OWNER LETTER, I TODAY CALLED THE CHRYSLER CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE CENTER, 1-800-247-9753. THE ASSISTANCE CENTER REPRESENTATIVE TOLD ME THAT MY VEHICLE IS NOT WITHIN THE EXTENDED WARRANTY BECAUSE MY VEHICLE (BUILT WITHIN THE EXTENDED WARRANTY TIME FRAME) CONTAINED A GAS TANK WITH THE SALES CODE "NSKS" AND THAT THE EXTENDED WARRANTY ONLY COVERS CARS BUILT WITH THE GAS TANK SALES CODE "NSK." NOTHING IN THE MATERIALS POSTED ONLINE WITH PE13016 INDICATE THAT THERE ARE TWO DIFFERENT GAS TANKS, ONLY ONE OF WHICH HAD PROBLEMS. PLEASE, RECONSIDER WHETHER THE CHRYSLER RESPONSE IS ADEQUATE. CAR STALLS OR TRIES TO STALL SEVERAL MORE TIMES WHILE DRIVING IN TRAFFIC. HAVE COME TO REALIZE THAT CAR WILL NOT DO THIS IF I ONLY FILL THE TANK UP TO 3/4 FULL, BUT IF THE TANK IS FILLED MORE THAN THAT, THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURS AFTER FILL UP. THE CAR WILL TRY TO STALL WHEN STOPPING AT SEVERAL OF THE FIRST TRAFFIC LIGHTS, DRIVING AFTER RESTARTING, OR DRIVING AROUND CURVES. THIS SEEMS RATHER DANGEROUS DRIVING LIKE THIS IN TRAFFIC. PURCHASED A 2006 300C SRT8 IN 2014. THIS IS THE 2ND TIME THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED. AFTER THE 1ST REFUELING THE CAR STALLED AND BUCKED AND THEN AFTER A FEW MILES CALMED DOWN. I THOUGHT PERHAPS IT WAS BAD GAS. DURING THE 2ND REFUELING, WITH 93 OCTANE, AND JUST AS THE FUEL CLICKED OFF, THE ENGINE STALLED. NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IN EITHER SITUATION. THE CAR WAS WORSE THAN THE LAST TIME. THE CAR STALLED AT EACH LIGHT ALL THE WAY HOME. THIS HAPPENED APPROXIMATELY 4 TIMES AND THEN IT STALLED AGAIN AS I PARKED IT IN MY DRIVEWAY. ENGINE STALLS AFTER FILLING THE TANK. ON AT LEAST FOUR OCCASIONS VEHICLE WOULD STALL WITHIN 20 MILES OF COMPLETELY FILLING TANK. AFTER SECOND INCIDENT VEHICLE TAKEN TO CHRYSLER DEALER FOR A TUNE-UP, HOWEVER PROBLEM PERSISTED. THIS OCCURRED ONCE WHILE ENTERING A PUBLIC PARKING LOT WITH LOSS OF POWER STEERING AND BRAKES FORTUNATELY THE CAR AT LOW SPEED AND ROLLED TO A STOP BEFORE STRIKING ANYTHING. ON ANOTHER OCCASION THIS HAPPENED WHILE PULLING AWAY FROM A TRAFFIC LIGHT IN HEAVY TRAFFIC NEARLY CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO BE STRUCK FROM BEHIND. TEMPORARY FIX IS TO NO LONGER COMPLETELY FILL THE TANK, GUESSING AT ABOUT 3/4 TANK TO STOP FUELING. PARTIALLY FILLING THE TANK IS NOT A PROPER SOLUTION. THIS IS A RECURRING PROBLEM AND NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED AND RECALLED.

AFTER FILLING UP WITH GAS THE CAR STALLED WHEN EXITING THE GAS STATION IN FRONT OF ONCOMING VEHICLES. WE WERE NEARLY REAR ENDED. THE CAR AGAIN STALLED AT THE NEXT STOP LIGHT, THEN AGAIN WHILE MERGING ONTO THE FREEWAY. WE HAD A FULL TUNE UP PERFORMED ON THE CAR THINKING THAT THIS WAS THE CAUSE, HOWEVER THE CAR CONTINUED TO STALL AFTER A FILL UP. WE ARE NOW FORCED TO LIMIT REFUELING THE CAR TO ONLY ONE HALF TANK TO BE SURE THAT THE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS STALLING DOES NOT OCCUR PUTTING OUR FAMILY IN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATIONS. THE STALLING OCCURRED AGAIN JUST THIS WEEK AFTER ACCIDENTALLY ALLOWING THE FUEL PUMP TO CLICK OFF PRODUCING A FULL GAS TANK. WE HAD JUST FILLED THE GAS TANK AND WERE HEADING OFF TO LAS VEGAS FOR A LONG WEEKEND WHEN AS WE DROVE LESS THAN A BLOCK AWAY THE CAR STALLED. THIS NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE, WE RESTARTED THE CAR AND SHE CONTINUED TO JERK AROUND ACTING LIKE IT WAS GOING TO STALL AGAIN. WE WERE VERY CLOSE TO A PEP BOYS SO WE PULLED IN AND TOLD THE CLERK WHAT WAS HAPPENING, HE SAID WE MAYBE GOT BAD GAS (MAYBE WATERED DOWN) AND TO TRY A GAS TREATMENT. WE DID AND IT STALLED AGAIN, WE RESTARTED THE CAR AND DROVE CAUTIOUSLY AROUND TOWN TESTING HER RELIABILITY. SHE SEEMED FINE SO WE DROVE ON TO VEGAS. SHE PERFORMED WELL FOR A FEW WEEKS THEN DID IT AGAIN AFTER FILLING THE TANK SO AGAIN WE ADDED GAS TREATMENT AND THINGS SEEMED FINE. A MONTH OR SO LATER THE SAME THING AGAIN WITH THE STALLING AFTER FUELING. SO FAR THIS HAS HAPPENED APPROXIMATELY 8 TIMES SINCE THE FIRST TIME AND ONLY AFTER FUELING. WE ARE NERVOUS TO DRIVE ANYWHERE NOW. WE HAVE USED VARIOUS GAS STATIONS SO NOT ANY PARTICULAR BRAND MAKES THIS HAPPEN. IT CAN GO FOR SEVERAL WEEKS WITHOUT INCIDENT BUT WE JUST NEVER KNOW WHEN IT MAY OCCUR AGAIN. WE LOOKED IT UP ONLINE TO SEE IF ANYONE ELSE WAS HAVING SIMILAR PROBLEMS AND FOUND THAT OWNERS OF CHRYSLER 2006 300C AND MAGNUMS AND CHARGERS ALL EXPERIENCED THE SAME THING. PE13-016 WAS REFERENCED AS THE ORIGINAL INVESTIGATION NUMBER INTO THESE OCCURRENCES. CHRYSLER SUPPOSEDLY ISSUED A LIFETIME EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR THIS PROBLEM BUT ONLY TO THOSE AFFECTED AND NOTIFIED THEM PRIOR TO JAN. 2014. THE REST OF US ARE SCREWED. I AM ASKING FOR THIS INVESTIGATION TO BE REOPENED. CHRYSLER NEEDS TO BE FAIR TO ALL OWNERS OF THESE VEHICLES WITH THIS DEFECT. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER AND HAVE TAKEN EXCELLENT CARE OF MY CAR. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED. IT STARTED OCCURRING 12000 MILES AGO. TODAY WAS THE LAST STRAW. AFTER FILLING MY TANK OVER THIS PAST YEAR, I'VE LEARNED THAT I CAN ONLY FILL MY TANK TO 3/4 FULL TO AVOID THE STALLING AND SPUTTERING. THIS MEANS I HAVE TO HAVE MY IGNITION TURNED ON SO THAT I CAN WATCH WHEN THE FUEL GETS TO 3/4. THIS ALONE IS A SAFETY HAZARD AS IT COULD SPARK. TODAY I FILLED IT TO 3/4 FOREVER IT SHUT OFF AT THE PUMP JUST BEFORE IT GOT TO 3/4... WHEN I STARTED THE CAR THE FULL INDICATOR WAS FULL. I KNEW THIS MEANT I WOULD HAVE A SCARY RIDE HOME. IT STALLED LEAVING THE GAS STATION AND TWO MORE TIMES WHILE WAITING AT THE FIRST LIGHT. I MADE IT ABOUT A MILE AND WAS MAKING A RIGHT TURN AND IT CUT OUT AT ABOUT 35. I WAS MAKING THE TURN WITH NO POWER AND ALMOST HIT A POLE. I PUT ON MY EMERGENCY FLASHERS AND WAS ALMOST REAR ENDED. PLEASE EXPLAIN WHY ONLY SELECTED VIN NUMBERS WERE SELECTED AGAINST PE13-016. FOR SEVERAL WEEKS EVERY TIME I FILLED MY GAS TANK THE CAR STALLED. I WOULD START IT AND IT WOULD STALL AGAIN. I UNDERSTAND THE WARRANTY HAS BEEN EXTENDED ON THE FUEL TANKS AS PER PE 13-016. I CONTACTED CHRYSLER THEY SAID THEY DID NOT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT AN EXTENDED WARRENTY. THE CURRENT ISSUE WITH THIS MODEL FOR ME IS THE FUEL. I JUST HAD A VAPOR CANISTER INSTALLED THAT DID NOT SOLVE THE ISSUE BUT IT DID GET RID OF A FEW OF THE PROBLEMS. WHEN I FIRST STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS WITH MY CAR SHUTTING DOWN AFTER A FILL UP, I THOUGHT THE GAS HAD WATER IN IT BUT IT'S NOT THE GAS. NO MATTER WHAT STATION I FILL UP AT, I HAVE THE SAME SYMPTOMS. THE CAR WILL DRIVE FINE FOR ABOUT 3 CAR LENGTHS, THEN IT WILL HESITATE, CHOKE, JUMP, TRY TO DIE, JERK FORWARD AND THEN FINALLY STALL AND SHUT ITSELF OFF. THEN IT WILL TAKE 3 OR MORE TRIES TO GET THE CAR TO RESTART AND IT MAY DO THE SAME THINGS OVER AGAIN FOR ANOTHER BLOCK OR TWO. THE BOTTOM LINE IS, IN THE FIRST 3 BLOCKS OF DRIVING THIS CAR AFTER A FILL UP, I CAN EXPECT JUST ABOUT ANYTHING AND I KNOW FOR SURE IT WILL DIE ON ME IF I FILL IT UP. IF I ONLY PUT IN 3/4 OF A TANK OF GAS OR LESS, I AM SAFE BUT IF I LET THE PUMP KICK OFF ON ITS OWN, I'M IN TROUBLE. AFTER REFUELING (NOT OVER-FILLING) THE VEHICLE STALLS, BUCKS WHILE IN MOTION, DEALERSHIPS COULD NOT DIAGNOSE THE REASON. THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME THE TANK IS FILLED TO THE POINT THE GAS PUMP KICKS OFF. THE DEALER SUGGESTS THE SOLUTION IS TO NOT FILL THE TANK, WHICH IS A TACTIC THAT DOES WORK IF YOU CAN PREDICT HOW FUEL YOU CAN PUMP BEFORE THE SHUT-OFF. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE THE STALLING IS NOT IMMEDIATE AND WILL OFTEN OCCUR WITHOUT WARNING ONCE YOU HAVE ENTERED MOVING TRAFFIC. ON 2 OCCASIONS, 09/30/13 AND 10/02/13 I FILLED MY VEHICLE UP WITH GAS AND WITHIN A MILE OF THE GAS STATION IT STARTED MISSING REAL BAD AND THEN SHUT OFF, ONCE WHILE MERGING ONTO INTERSTATE 95 AND THE OTHER TIME ON A LESS TRAVELED ROAD. ON BOTH OCCASIONS I WAS FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO PULL TO THE SHOULDER AND RESTART THE VEHICLE. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO WHITTEN BROS CHRYSLER (RICHMOND, VA) A FEW DAYS LATER AND I WAS TOLD THAT THE GAS CANISTER WAS CONTAMINATED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED ALONG WITH A DETECTOR AND SOLENOID, TOTAL COST OF $516 AND WAS TOLD THE GAS TANK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE OF A DEFECTIVE VALVE IN THE TANK. SEEMS THE VALVE WAS STUCK OPEN AND ALLOWING GAS TO OVERFLOW INTO THE CANISTER. SINCE THE VALVE IS PART OF THE TANK AND CANNOT BE REPLACED A COMPLETE TANK IS NEEDED AT A COST OF $1200 TO $1500. THE NEXT WEEK I CALLED THE SERVICE ADVISOR AT WHITTEN BROTHERS, [XXX] , AND TOLD HER TO GO AHEAD AND ORDER THE TANK. SHE SAID IT WOULD TAKE 3-5 DAYS TO BE RECEIVED AND WOULD CALL ME WHEN IT WAS IN. THAT NIGHT I READ AN ARTICLE ABOUT A GAS TANK PROBLEM ON THE 2006 VEHICLES LIKE MINE AND SAW THAT IF YOU DID NOT FILL THE TANK YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE A PROBLEM WITH IT SHUTTING OFF. I FIGURED FOR THE AMOUNT OF MONEY I WAS GOING TO HAVE TO SPEND I WOULD GO THIS ROUTE SO I CALLED AND CANCELLED THE ORDER FOR THE TANK. AFTER FUELING, CAR BEGAN TO SURGE, AND THEN DIE AT RANDOM FOR APPROXIMATELY 5 MINUTES. CAR STALLED AT MAJOR, BUSY INTERSECTION WHILE I WAS TURNING. I HAD A NEAR, POTENTIALLY FATAL ACCIDENT AS I HAD TO RESTART MY CAR WHILE ONCOMING TRAFFIC COMING TOWARDS ME. THIS WAS A HORRIFYING EXPERIENCE. I HAD THIS HAPPEN A FEW MORE TIMES AND HAD ATTRIBUTED IT TO "BAD GAS" UNTIL I FOUND OUT ABOUT A FAULTY FUEL TANK/VAPOR PART IN CAR. I TOOK THE CAR TO CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP AND PAID $130.00 TO DIAGNOSE PROBLEM. RODE WITH SERVICE TECHNICIAN TO REFUEL CAR AND SHOW HIM THE PROBLEM. HE EXPERIENCED THE SAME ISSUE, VERIFIED MY COMPLAINT, THEN GAVE ME THE ESTIMATE OF COST TO REPLACE FUEL TANK. CHRYSLER CORP. HAS OFFERED A 25% DISCOUNT TO HELP WITH REPLACEMENT OF ENTIRE FUEL TANK. THE WHOLE FUEL TANK NEEDS TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE THE FAULTY PART IS BUILT INTO IT. THE COST QUOTE FROM THE CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP, PARTS AND LABOR IS $1,350.00. THE PRICE OF THE FUEL TANK ONLY, NO LABOR IS $905.00. THIS SHOULD BE COVERED BY CHRYSLER 100%, THE FUEL TANK DID NOT WEAR OUT OR FAIL, THE PART THEY BUILT INTO IT FAILED. IT MAY APPEAR BY THE YEAR MODEL, (2006) THAT THIS AN OLDER MODEL BEGINNING TO HAVE PROBLEMS. I AM NOT SURE ABOUT THE ACTUAL START DATE OR MILEAGE, BUT THIS HAS BEEN A CONTINUED PROBLEM FOR ABOUT 4 YEARS. I RESEARCH THIS PROBLEM THROUGH THE INTERNET AND FOUND THAT MANY OWNERS OF THIS CAR HARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM AND THAT THE FIX REQUIRES AN EXPENSIVE REPLACEMENT OF THE FUEL TANK. OUR CHRYSLER 300C HAD BEGUN TO STALL OUT WHILE DRIVING WITH MORE THAN 3/4 TANK OF GAS. WE BEGAN TO LIMIT THE AMOUNT OF GAS TO NEVER FILL MORE THAN 3/4 TANK. THIS LASTED FOR APPROXIMATELY 6 MONTHS. IN DEC, 2013 THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO STALL AT OTHER TIMES. I HAD BETWEEN 1/4 TO 1/2 IN THE TANK WHEN WE WERE DRIVING AT APPROX 45MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO STALL THEN RESTART AT FIRST. THEN IT STALLED ENTIRELY SEVERAL TIMES THAT EVENING AS WE TRIED TO MAKE IT HOME. I HAD MY 2 DAUGHTERS AND 2 GRANDDAUGHTERS WITH ME AT THE TIME. THE NEXT MORNING I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO LOCAL DLR, LEE CHRYSLER, WERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE STALLED ON ME 3 TIMES WHILE I WAS TRYING TO MAKE IT THE 3 MILES. THE DEALER HAD THE CAR UNTIL 12-16-2013 WHEN THEY ADVISED THAT THE PROPORTIONAL VALVE/PURGE VALE NEEDED REPLACED AND THAT ALL OF THE UPDATES TO THE SYSTEM NEEDED TO BE MADE. THE TOTAL OF THIS ATTEMPT TO REPAIR WAS $379.45. THE CAR IMMEDIATELY BEGAN TO STALL AGAIN SO I RETURNED IT. THEY KEPT THE CAR FOR APPROXIMATELY TWO WEEKS WITH THEIR COMPUTER HOOKED UP TO IT THEN ADVISED THAT THE PCM NEEDED REPLACED THIS REPAIR COST A TOTAL OF $1,018.61. THE CAR WAS ON EMPTY SO HE OFFERED TO STOP FOR GAS. HE FILLED THE TANK UP THEN PULLED OUT TO 5 LANES OF TRAFFIC AND STALLED. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESTART FOR SEVERAL ATTEMPTS. I CALLED THE DEALER AND THEY WRECKER AFTER THE VEHICLE. THEY HAD THE CAR FOR ONE NIGHT AND CALLED US TO PICK UP AND RUN THE GAS OUT TO 1/4TANK. WE WERE TOLD IT WOULD NOT STALL AGAIN BECAUSE THEY HAD DISCONNECTED THE EMISSIONS SYSTEM. WHILE I WAS DRIVING THE CAR ON A VERY BUSY 7 LANE HWY WITH MY DAUGHTER AND 3 MONTH OLD GRANDDAUGHTER THE CAR CAME TO A DEAD STOP IN 40MPH TRAFFIC. RIGHT NOW THE ONLY WAY TO COMBAT THIS PROBLEM IS TO NOT FILL UP THE CAR MORE THAN 3/4 OF THE TANK. THIS METHOD KEEPS THE DRIVER GUESSING AS TO HOW MUCH GAS SHOULD BE PUMPED, AND CAUSES MORE FREQUENT FILL UPS AS YOU'RE NOT USING 1/4 OF THE GAS TANK CAPACITY. STOPPED ON THE WAY HOME TO FILL UP MY GAS TANK. WHEN THE NOZZLE SHUT OFF, I REMOVED THE NOZZLE. I HEARD A GURGLING SOUND IN THE TANK WHICH WAS UNUSUAL. I BEGAN DRIVING OUT OF THE GAS STATION THROUGH THE ADJACENT PARKING LOT AND THE ENGINE DIED WITHIN 150 FEET OF DRIVING. I RESTARTED THE ENGINE AND UPON IT DIED AGAIN WITHIN 15 FEET. RE-STARTED A THIRD TIME AND IT STALLED OUT AND WOULD NOT STAY RUNNING. WITHIN A MINUTE OR SO OF REFUELING, THE ENGINE STALLED AND, CONSEQUENTLY, THE POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES FAILED. THE CAR WOULD RE-START WITH LITTLE DIFFICULTY ONLY TO STALL AGAIN VERY SHORTLY THEREAFTER. EVENTUALLY, AFTER PERHAPS 10 MINUTES OF STARTS/STALLS, AND RE-STARTS, OPERATION WOULD RETURN TO NORMAL. TOOK CAR TO FIRESTONE NEXT DAY AND THEY SAID THAT VAPOR CANISTER AND PURGE VALVE ARE WORKING AND IT WAS BE THE COMPONENT IN THE TANK. SAID IT WILL COST $1,500 FOR NEW TANK. I SAID NO WAY, I'LL WAIT TILL THERE IS A RECALL ON THIS, WHICH THERE [XXX] WELL BETTER BE. IF THIS CAR STALLED ON EXPRESSWAY, I WOULD HAVE BEEN SCREWED. IT IS A FACTORY DESIGN ERROR THAT ONLY BE CORRECTED BY THE FUEL TANK REPLACEMENT AS WELL AS THE PURGE VALVE. ON 8/29, I PICKED MY CAR UP FROM THE DEALERSHIP FOR A REPAIR TO THE BODY. WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO START THE VEHICLE, IT TURNED OVER BUT WOULD NOT START. DURING THAT TIME, THE BATTERY WAS CHANGED, THE EVAP CANISTER WAS REPLACED AND THE GAS TANK WAS REPLACED. WHEN I WENT TO PICK THE VEHICLE UP ON 9/26, IT WOULD NOT START. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS AND PUMPING THE GAS WHILE TURNING THE IGNITION, THE VEHICLE STARTED. I AM NOW ONLY ABLE TO START THE VEHICLE IF THE GAS PEDAL AN PUMPED WHILE THE KEY IS BEING TURNED. AFTER REFUELING MY CAR SUDDENLY LOST ACCELERATION AND STALLED WITHOUT ANY WARNING AS I WAS LEAVING THE GAS STATION. I RESTARTED THE CAR AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED 3 MORE TIMES. THIS PARTICULAR INCIDENT HAS HAPPENED FOUR TIMES BEFORE; EACH TIME I TOPPED OFF? MY GAS TANK. I WAS CONCERNED THAT I COULD BE INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT SO I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP? AND AFTER SEVERAL DAYS WAS TOLD THAT THE FUEL LINE WAS CRACKED AND THE GAS TANK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. AFTER PAYING $1,700.00 AND RENTING A CAR FOR 4 DAYS, I WAS TOLD THAT THE PROBLEM WILL GO AWAY. WE SHALL SEE. MY CAR IS WELL MAINTAINED WITH OIL CHANGES EVERY 3,000 MILES WITH ONLY 55,000 MILES. I ALSO ONLY USE 89 OCTANE FUEL AS RECOMMENDED IN THE OWNER'S MANUAL. I CONTACTED CHRYSLER AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE IS NO RECALL ON THIS, EVEN THOUGH QUITE A NUMBER OF DRIVERS HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS SAME PROBLEM. CAR STALLS IMMEDIATELY AFTER FILLING UP. I SWITCHED FILLING STATIONS, BRANDS AND OCTANES. CONTINUED TO HAVE PROBLEM. AFTER A FEW GALLONS WERE USED, THE STALLING WENT AWAY EACH TIME. PROBLEM NOW CONTINUES WHILE STOPPED AT TRAFFIC LIGHTS, TRAVELING AT LOW SPEEDS, OR NO PRESSURE ON THE THROTTLE. WHILE MOVING IT WILL STALL, THE ENGINE LIGHT WILL COME ON AND "DING", THEN WHEN I PUMP THE THROTTLE IT WILL CATCH ITSELF AND THE CAR WILL JERK HARD AND ACCELERATE AGAIN. AFTER FILLING UP MY GAS TANK, I ENCOUNTERED NUMEROUS STALLS WHILE DRIVING. THANKFULLY, IT WAS CITY DRIVING EARLY IN THE MORNING. SINCE THEN, I HAVE ENCOUNTERED NUMEROUS SITUATIONS WHERE THE CAR HAS STALLED AFTER FILLING UP. I INITIALLY THOUGHT IT WAS BAD GAS (I.E. WATER IN MY GAS TANK), HOWEVER, I HAVE SINCE VARIED THE FUELING STATIONS AND BRANDS I USE AND HAVE SEEN NO EFFECT. IT ALWAYS SEEMS TO HAPPEN AFTER I FILL UP, AND IT SEEMS TO GO AWAY AFTER THE TANK HAS EMPTIED A BIT. THE LATEST ENCOUNTER WAS YESTERDAY (I FILLED UP TWO DAYS PRIOR) WHILE I HAD MY FAMILY IN THE CAR - MULTIPLE STALLS IN MID-DAY CITY TRAFFIC. AND AGAIN THIS MORNING. THE GAS TANK IS STILL QUITE FULL (IT SHOWS OVER "F" ON THE GAUGE). I _NEVER_ TOP OFF WHEN I FILL - I SIMPLY WAIT UNTIL THE FILLER TURNS ITSELF OFF WHEN FILLING. AT THE DEALERSHIP SAYS THEY HAVE NOT HAD ANY PROBLEMS LIKE THIS BEFORE AND THEY DID NOT KNOW HOW TO DEAL WITH THIS PROBLEM. WE ASKED THEM TO TAKE SOME OF THE GAS OUT OF THE TANK AND TAKE THE CAR TO THE GAS STATION AND FILL UP THE CAR. WELL AFTER GETTING GAS THE CAR DIED ON THE SERVICE REPS. NOT JUST ONCE BUT 3 TIMES. VEHICLE STALLED WHILE TURNING INTO A PARKING LOT WITHIN 3 MILES AFTER REFUELING (FULL TANK). FORTUNATELY, NO OTHER VEHICLES WERE AHEAD OF ME, AND I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY COAST INTO A PARKING SPACE STRAIGHT AHEAD. AS DESCRIBED BY OTHER OWNERS, I LOST ALL POWER "EVERYTHING" STEERING, ETC. VEHICLE RESTARTED AFTER A BRIEF PERIOD, AND I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE HOME. TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIRS. DEALERSHIP IMMEDIATELY SUSPECTED THE TROUBLE WAS RELATED TO A FULL FUEL TANK AND FAILING VAPOR VENT VALVE IN THE FUEL TANK. I'M PARAPHRASING HERE BUT AS I UNDERSTOOD IT, LIQUID FUEL WAS BREACHING THE VENT VALVE WHEN TYPICALLY ONLY VAPORS ARE VENTED. REMEDY: REPLACE THE FUEL TANK. AN EXPENSIVE SOLUTION FOR WHAT IS SEEMINGLY A DEFECT EXPERIENCED BY MANY OWNERS. THE FUEL TANK HAD TO BE SPECIAL ORDERED, AND ONCE THE PART ARRIVED, I WAS TO BRING THE VEHICLE BACK WITH AS LITTLE FUEL AS POSSIBLE IN THE TANK. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND NO "CODES" WERE FOUND AND THE DEALER COULD NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE CAR THAN RAN PERFECTLY FOR SIX YEARS WITH NO STALLING ISSUES. ALL MAINTENANCE HAS BEEN PERFORMED INCLUDING NEW SPARK PLUGS AS RECOMMENDED BY CHRYSLER. STARTING EARLIER THIS YEAR THE STALLING RESTARTED AND IT ONLY HAPPENS AFTER I FILL THE CAR WITH FUEL. I HAVE TRIED SEVERAL OTHER GAS STATIONS AND RAN SOME FUEL INJECTION CLEANER THROUGH THE FUEL SYSTEM. I DO NOT TOP OFF THE TANK WHEN FILLING THE CAR UP. AT ONE POINT THE STALLING OCCURRED AFTER EVERY FILL UP AND NOW IT IS NOT AS OFTEN (EVERY OTHER FILL UP). AFTER FILLING THE TANK THE CAR STARTS NORMALLY AND AS I EXIT THE GAS STATION AND STOP TO CHECK TO MERGE INTO TRAFFIC THE CAR WILL STUMBLE AND STALL. IT RESTARTS AND WILL STALL AGAIN IF I DON'T KEEP THE ENGINE RPM'S UP. I BACKED MY VEHICLE OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY, HEADED DOWNHILL TO THE INTERSECTION. I STOPPED AT THE STOP SIGN, AS I ACCELERATED LEAVING THE STOP SIGN, THE VEHICLE STALLED OUT. I PLACED THE SHIFTER IN NEUTRAL AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE. DROVE TO THE NEXT INTERSECTION AND THE VEHICLE DID THE SAME THING. AFTER THE INITIAL PROBLEM I DROVE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP, WHERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS, AND IS, STILL UNDER WARRANTY. THE DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM TO BE A FAILED THROTTLE CONTROL AND BRAKE PEDAL ASSEMBLY, ESTIMATED COST OF AROUND $1,000. THEY WOULD NOT SAY FOR SURE IF THE REPAIRS WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM. THESE REPAIRS WOULD NOT BE COVERED BY MY EXTENDED WARRANTY. MY VEHICLE HAS STALLED OUT SPORADICALLY THIS PAST SEVERAL MONTHS, SOMETIMES IN HEAVY TRAFFIC, WHERE I COULD EASILY BE REAR ENDED. MY VEHICLE HAS THE 5.7 LITER HEMI V8 ENGINE WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION.

AFTER FILLING THE GAS TANK FULL I DROVE THE CAR 1-2 MILES AND STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT AND WHEN I WENT TO ACCELERATE TO GO FORWARD THE ENGINE COMPLETELY DIED. I COASTED TO A STOP JUST PAST THE INTERSECTION AND WAS ABLE TO RE-START IT. THE SAME THING HAPPENED ABOUT A MILE FURTHER DOWN THE ROAD ONLY THIS TIME I WAS NOT STOPPED, BUT DRIVING AND ACCELERATING AND IT DIED AND I WAS FORCED TO COAST TO A STOP AND RESTART THE ENGINE. THE PROBLEM CONTINUED FOR SEVERAL DAYS AND THEN STOPPED. IT HAPPENED AGAIN THE NEXT TIME I FILLED THE GAS TANK UP WITH VERY SIMILAR ISSUES, AND AGAIN STOPPED AFTER THE GAS TANK HAD USED SEVERAL GALLONS OF FUEL. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND WAS INFORMED THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE GAS TANK (AT A COST OF $1600). THE TECHNICIAN THEN TOLD ME THAT IF I KEPT THE GAS TANK AT 75% FULL AND NOT COMPLETELY FILL IT I WOULD HAVE NO PROBLEMS. HE WAS RIGHT, SINCE THESE EVENTS IN DECEMBER OF 2012 I HAVE ONLY FILLED IT TO 75% FULL AND HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS. I AM REPORTING THIS BECAUSE I READ IN THE DALLAS MORNING NEWS ON 05/16/2013 THAT THIS MODEL OF CHRYSLER IS BEING INVESTIGATED FOR THE PROBLEM I HAVE TOLD YOU OF. AFTER FILLING UP GAS TANK TO CAPACITY, VEHICLE STALLED AFTER DRIVING FOR APPROXIMATELY ONE MILE BECAUSE FUEL FLOODED THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE RESTARTED AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS BUT VEHICLE CONTINUED TO STALL AFTER A MILE. I TOOK VEHICLE TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE FUEL TANK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED.THE FUEL TANK WAS REPLACED BUT I AM STILL CONCERNED THAT THIS PROBLEM COULD HAVE CAUSED A CRASH RESULTING IN A LOT OF DAMAGE AND POSSIBLE DEATH. AFTER FILLING UP GAS TANK TO FULL (NOT OVERFILLING - STOP FUELING ONCE PUMP SHUTS OFF) AND DRIVING AT SLOW SPEEDS LESS THAN 5MPH OR AT IDLE SPEED, CAR DIES WITH NO WARNING, ENGINE LIGHT AND OIL LIGHT COMES ON. IT TAKES SEVERAL TRIES TO RE-START THE CAR. ENGINE DIES APPROXIMATELY 4+ TIMES UNTIL IT RUNS FINE. THIS HAPPENS PERIODICALLY, NOT EVERYTIME CAR IS FUELED UP. I FILL UP AT 1/2 TANK TWICE A WEEK. THIS INCIDENT OCCURS PERIODICALLY - ABOUT ONCE MONTH. 2006 CHRYSLER 300C ENGINE: 5.7 LITER SPMI ENGINE SHUTTING DOWN ANYWHERE FROM 0-40MPH. IT COULD OCCUR WITH THE AIR CONDITIONING ON, HAPPENING WHEN TURNING LEFT OR RIGHT, WHICH WOULD BRING THE MILES PER HOUR BELOW 40MPR. SO ACTUALLY WHATEVER YOU WOULD DO TO BRING THE SPEED LIMIT BELOW 40MPH IS OF NO REAL IMPORTANCE. THE REST OF THE THINGS WOULD NOT BE WORTH MENTIONING BECAUSE ANYTHING YOU DID TO BRING THE MILES PER HOUR BELOW 40 IS ALL THAT IS IMPORTANT (IT EVEN WOULD STOP AT A STOP SIGN). IF IT WAS SAFE TO ACCELERATE YOU COULD STOP THE SHUT DOWN. IT NEVER STOPPED OR TRIED TO STOP AT HIGH SPEEDS. COMMON DENOMINATOR ON ENGINE SHUTDOWN APPEARED TO BE A FULL TANK OF GAS OR RELATIVELY FULL TANK OF GAS. PROBLEM STARTED PRIOR TO OCTOBER 2008 BEFORE TAKING TO DEALER TO DIAGNOSE (FINAL REPAIR DONE JUNE 27, 2009). MULTIPLE DIAGNOSTICS LATER THE PROBLEM APPEARS FIXED; USING A 'BLACK BOX' FOR THE CAR THE DEALER FINALLY REPLACED (AFTER REPLACING MULTIPLE PARTS OF THE ENGINE AND COMPUTER COMPONENTS): (FROM DEALER INVOICE) REPLACE RETAINER, GAS TANK, CANISTER, SELENOID-PROPORTIONAL, O RING-FUEL PUMP AND LEVE, RETAINER, PIN. DESCRIPTION OF PROBLEM ON LAST INVOICE: TOOK MULTIPLE RECORDINGS OF MULTIPLE SENSORS, POWERS, GROUNDS, EVAP SYSTEM, ETC. READ RECORDINGS FOUND MOST COMMON EVAP PURGE WHEN ENGINE DIES. REMOVED EVAP CANISTER TO CHECK FOR FUEL LIQUID, NONE. REINSTALLED CANISTER, PLUGGED OFF PURGE SYSTEM. HAD DRIVEN FOR SEVERAL MILES TO SEE IF VEHICLE STUMBLES, DROVE WITH NO PROBLEMS. A HOLE GOT PUNCHED IN MY FUEL TANK ON MY 2006 CHRYSLER 300C WHEN IT WAS BEING DRIVEN DOWN A PAVED HIGHWAY AND THE DRIVER DID NOT HEAR ANYTHING THAT WAS HIT ON THE ROADWAY TO CAUSE THIS MUCH DAMAGE. THE DEALER STATES IT IS A ROAD HAZARD AND I CONTEST THIS RULING AND THINK THE FUEL TANK IS SUBSTANDARD IF IT FAILS THIS EASILY. THIS IS A MAJOR CONCERN WITH THE SAFETY OF OPERATING THIS VEHICLE IN THE FUTURE. PLEASE ADVISE HOW TO CONTINUE WITH MY CONTESTING THIS RULING BY THE DEALER SINCE IT IS COSTING ME AROUND $1,000.00 PLUS RENTAL AUTO COSTS TO GET THIS ISSUE CORRECTED WITH A NEW FUEL TANK.
