Additionally, there was an abnormal sound while driving over bumps in the roadway. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the ball joints were faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. 2000 CHRYSLER CIRRUS LX CAUGHT ON FIRE DUE TO LEAKING POWER STEERING FLUID**CC THE CONSUMER STATED THERE WAS A RECALL REGARDING THE HIGH PRESSURE STEERING HOSE. *JB
2000 CHRYSLER CIRRUS LX 2.4 LITER ENGINE. CAR PARKED, WITH ENGINE OFF. FIRE STARTS IN ENGINE COMPARTMENT, STARTED BY EITHER THE FUEL LINES ON THE TOP OF THE ENGINE OR THE POWER STEERING UNIT ON THE REAR LEFT OF THE ENGINE BY THE RESERVOIR. THERE WERE NO SIGNS OF OVERHEATING, NO SMOKE AND NO STRANGE NOISES PRIOR TO THE FIRE. THE FIRE STARTED APPROXIMATELY 10 MINS AFTER I GOT OUT OF THE VEHICLE. *TR

I PARKED THE SUBJECT VEHICLE IN THE DRIVEWAY TAKING NOTICE THAT THE STEERING WHEEL WAS MUCH HARDER TO TURN. JUST EXITING THE CAR I NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD I APPROACHED THE CAR, PREPARED TO OPEN THE HOOD TO INVESTIGATE BUT SOON FOUND THE CAR BURSTING INTO FLAMES. FAR FROM ANY EXTINGUISHER I CALLED 911. FIREFIGHTERS CAME SHORTLY AFTER THE FLAMES TOTALLED THE CAR IN A MATTER OF MINUTES. THE FIRE REPORT STATED OF AN UNDERHOOD FIRE. THE FAILURE OF THE VEHICLE COST ME MY TRANSPORTATION FROM WORK AND IN TURN MY JOB WERE LACK OF FUNDS LATER LED TO THE LOSS OF MY APARTMENT. IN SHORT NOTHING WAS DONE TO CORRECT THE FAILURE, IT HAPPENED WITHOUT NOTICE. I REPORTED A CLAIM TO MY INSURANCE COMPANY ONLY HAVING THEM TELL ME "THEY MUST DENY MY CLAIM SINCE IT WAS CONSIDERED AN ACT OF GOD" AFTER I REPORTED THE INFORMATION TO THE MANUFACTURER THEY TOLD ME THEY MUST DENY MY CLAIM EVEN AFTER THE FACT THAT THE CAR WAS INDEED TOTALLED BASED ON THE RECALL REGARDING THE POWER STEERING HOSE. *TR

THE DEALER HAD THE VEHICLE FOR OVER 7 HOURS. ONE MECHANIC TOLD THE CONSUMER THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AND THEN ANOTHER MECHANIC TOLD HER IT WAS READY TO PICK UP. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO HER OWN LOCAL MECHANIC, AND HE TOLD HER IT LOOKED AS THOUGH THE HOSE HAD NOT BEEN REPLACED. *JB

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A MECHANIC AND A REPAIR WAS PERFORMED. WHEN THE CONTACT ARRIVED TO PICK UP HIS VEHICLE, THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE HIGH PRESSURE POWER STEERING HOSE HAD PREMATURELY HEATED AND DEVELOPED A LEAK. THE FAILURE RESULTED IN AN UNDERHOOD FIRE. DAYS AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER. CHRYSLER STATED THAT THEY WOULD REIMBURSE HIM FOR THE REPAIRS. WEEKS LATER, CHRYSLER REFUSED TO PROVIDE REIMBURSEMENT. THE SAME DAY HE PICKED UP THE VEHICLE FROM THE DEALER, IT CAUGHT FIRE AGAIN AFTER BEING DRIVEN APPROXIMATELY 20 MILES. CHRYSLER ADVISED HIM TO LEAVE THE VEHICLE AND THAT THEY WOULD TOW IT AND TAKE CARE OF THE SITUATION. IT HAS CURRENTLY BEEN SIX WEEKS AND NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 134,980. BEFORE THE FIRE, THE CONSUMER HAD OTHER WORK PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE SUCH AS: A NEW WATER PUMP AND TIMING BELT. UPDATED

I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE IN THE MAIL FROM CHRYSLER. THE RECALL WAS FOR A HIGH PRESSURE POWER STEERING HOSE. SMITH CHRYSLER MADE THE REPAIR ON 07-06-06. WHEN I STARTED THE CAR I NOTICED THAT THE DRIVE BELTS WERE SLIPPING AND MAKING A STRANGE SOUND. LATER THAT NIGHT I JACKED UP THE VEHICLE AND INSPECTED THE WORK THAT WAS PERFORMED. I FOUND POWER STEERING FLUID ON NUMEROUS PARTS PF MY ENGINE AND FRAME. THERE WAS ALSO FLUID ON THE BELTS WHICH WAS CAUSING THEM TO SLIP. ON 07-07-2006 , I RETURNED TO THE DEALER TO HAVE THE FLUID CLEANED. WHEN I ARRIVED AT MY HOME LATER THAT DAY I NOTICED THAT THERE WAS STILL POWER STEERING FLUID ON SOME PARTS OF MY CAR. I CALLED THE GENERAL MANAGER AND MADE A COMPLAINT. THE MANAGER INTERVIEWED THE MECHANIC AND FOUND OUT THAT THERE WAS A LOT OF FLUID LOST WHILE REPLACING THE HOSE. I WAS NEVER TOLD WHY THEY PARKED MY CAR ON THE READY LINE WITH SO MUCH FLAMMABLE LIQUID ON IT THAT MY BELTS WERE SLIPPING. THE GENERAL MANAGER NOW WANTS ME TO RETURN A THIRD TIME. I AM CONCERNED THAT THE FLUID MIGHT CATCH ON FIRE. I HAVE BEEN CLEANING IT UP FOR OVER ONE HOUR NOW. I BROUGHT MY VEHICLE INTO A LOCAL DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THE PROBLEM FIXED ON SATURDAY JUNE 3, 2006 AT THE COURTESY CHRYSLER JEEP OF SANFORD LOCATED AT 1100 RHINEHART RD, SANFORD, FL, 32771. I SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT FOR 10 AM AND MY CAR WAS NOT READY UNTIL 2:30 PM (4 1/2 HOURS LATER). LATER THAT EVENING I CHECKED MY POWER STEERING FLUID TO MAKE SURE IT HAD BEEN PROPERLY FILLED. I DISCOVERED THAT THERE WAS NO POWER STEERING FLUID AT ALL ON THE DIP STICK AND THAT MY AIR FILTER COMPARTMENT WAS UNDONE. I LOOKED INSIDE THE AIR FILTER COMPARTMENT AND FOUND A WRENCH LAYING ON TOP ON THE AIR FILTER. I BROUGHT MY VEHICLE IN TO RESOLVE A SAFETY ISSUE BUT INSTEAD ANOTHER SAFETY ISSUE WAS CREATED. THAT WAS MY FIRST TIME HAVING MY CAR SERVICED AT A CHRYSLER DEALER AND WILL BE THE LAST! FRONT DISC BRAKES BEGAN MAKING NOISE, MECHANIC CHECKED AND FOUND THE ROTOR SURFACE WAS DELAMINATING AND INFORMED ME THAT THIS HAPPENS ON ALL CHRYSLER CIRRUS'S THEY HAVE WORKED ON THIS YEAR. THIS MAY ANSWER SOME OF THE OTHER COMPLAINTS LISTED IN THIS SECTION. ALSO, THE 15" WHEELS MOUNTED ON THE LXI MODEL CIRRUS'S, TAKE 14" BRAKES. THE SUSPENSION ON THE LXI IS ONLY DESIGNED FOR THE 14" WHEELS, DUE TO THIS EFFORT ON CHRYSLER'S PART TO SAVE MONEY, THE LXI OWNERS ARE DRIVING VEHICLES WITH INCORRECT SUSPENSION AND WHEELS. THIS IS ON ALL CHRYSLER CIRRUS VEHICLES, THAT IS WHY THERE ARE STEERING, SUSPENSION AND BRAKE PROBLEMS.*AK
