THE REAR WINDOW IS GLASS AND THE GLUE BOND TO THE CONVERTIBLE TOP FAILS. I CALLED CHRYSLER IN AUGUST OF 2016 WHEN OUR WINDOW FELL LOOSE AND I LEARNED OF AN EXTENDED WARRANTY THAT WAS NEVER OFFERED TO US. THEY TOLD ME THEY HAD AN EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR THE CAR BUT MY VIN DID NOT QUALIFY AND IT WAS ONLY FOR 10 YEARS. WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE ON 2/6/2005 IN PLANO TEXAS. FROM ALL THE RESEARCH I'VE DONE THE EXTENDED WARRANTY SHOULD HAVE BEEN FOR ALL CARS SOLD IN TEXAS. WE NEVER RECEIVED NOTICE. AS I CONTINUE TO RESEARCH, THIS PROBLEM IS FAR GREATER THAN CARS SOLD IN A FEW SOUTHERN STATES AND CHRYSLER SHOULD BE COVERING OUR REPAIR. I'VE ATTEMPTED TO RESOLVE THIS WITH CHRYSLER MULTIPLE TIMES IN THE PAST 2 YEARS WITH NO SUCCESS.

WHILE DRIVING MY CAR,TO THE COAST ON THE HIGHWAY, THE BACK WINDOW STARTED MAKING LOUD FLOPPING NOISE, IT SCARED ME TO DEATH, I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT WAS GOING ON, I PULLED OVER AND NOTICED THAT THE BACK WINDOW HAD SEPARATED FROM THE CONVERTIBLE TOP AND WAS JUST HANGING AT THE TOP. IT SCARED ME TO DEATH. I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT TO DO, SO I TOOK THE DOWN DOWN , BECAUSE I THOUGHT FOR SURE I WOULD LOOSE THE WHOLE WINDOW IF I CONTINUED WITH THE TOP UP.

THE REAR WINDSHIELD HAS BECOME DETACHED. THE CAR IS LOCATED IN INDIANA AND THERE WAS NO VISIBLE WARNING THAT THIS WAS COMING APART. I HAVE CONTACTED A CONVERTIBLE COMPANY AND THEY ARE QUOTING 1900 FOR REPLACEMENT OF THE WHOLE TOP. IN READING OTHERS COMPLAINTS I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW THE STATUS OF THE NHTSA'S INVESTIGATION OF THIS ISSUE. THE CAR WAS IN MOTION AND THE REAR STARTED TO SOUND LIKE SOMETHING WAS BANGING AGAINST THE BODY OF THE CAR. THIS PROMPTED ME TO PULL OVER TO INVESTIGATE. DUE TO THIS ISSUE THE CAR IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE IN ITS CURRENT STATE.

LUCKILY, I REALIZED THERE WAS NO IMMEDIATE DANGER AND WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE CAR. THIS CAR IS GARAGED AND DRIVEN FEWER THAN 6,000 MILES PER YEAR! (MOSTLY WITH THE TOP DOWN!)

IN JULY, THE REAR GLASS WINDOW FELL OUT (PART OF THE GLASS IS STILL ATTACHED) WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE ON A STREET. UNKNOWN TO ME, THIS ISSUE WAS A COMMON PROBLEM ON THE 2005 MODEL (THE GLASS ADHESIVE FAILED). ALTHOUGH CHRYSLER EXTENDED THE WARRANTY ON THE TOP FOR 10 YEARS, THE WARRANTY COVERS ONLY CARS PURCHASE WITH SPECIFIC VINS. UNFORTUNATELY, MY CAR WAS NOT COVERED OR I WAS NOT NOTIFIED. , THE WINDOW REPAIR (ACTUALLY A TOP REPLACEMENT) IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. I HAVE PROPED UP THE WINDOW SO I CAN DRIVE THE CAR, THE ALTURNITIVE IS TO A NEW TOP. FOR ABOUT $2,000

ALTHOUGH CHRYSLER EXTENDED THE WARRANTY ON THE TOP FOR 10 YEARS, THE WARRANTY COVERS ONLY CARS PURCHASE IN 10 SELECT STATES. UNFORTUNATELY, OUR CAR WAS NOT PURCHASED IN ONE OF THOSE STATES. THUS, THE WINDOW REPAIR (ACTUALLY A TOP REPLACEMENT) IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. CHRYSLER REFUSED TO FIX THE TOP. ENDED UP TAKING THE CAR TO A LOCAL UPHOLSTERY SHOP TO HAVE A PLASTIC WINDOW 'SOWN' INTO THE TOP SO THAT WE COULD CONTINUE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. THIS REPAIR WAS MORE AFFORDABLE THAN THE COST OF AN ENTIRE NEW TOP (ALMOST $2,000). THE PLASTIC WINDOW REPLACEMENT COST $500.00.

THE GLASS REMAINED CONNECTED TO THE TOP BY ABOUT 1/3 OF THE ORIGINAL GLUE. THE REMAINDER HAD COME APART FROM THE GLUE LEAVING THE GLASS MOSTLY DETACHED.

I WAS ABLE TO FIND SOMEONE TO RE-ATTACH THE WIDOW ON A TEMPORARY BASIS BUT IT KEEPS COMING UNGLUED. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THE ONLY PERMANENT SOLUTION IS TO GET A NEW TOP. I'VE SPENT 2 YEARS LIMPING ALONG WITH MAKE DUE REMEDIES. PLEASE HELP US.

LITERALLY THE DAY AFTER THE RETURN PERIOD ON OUR 2005 CROSSFIRE CONVERTIBLE WAS UP, WE FOUND OUT THAT THIS CAR HAS A MAJOR DEFECT WHERE THE BACK WINDOW FALLS OUT DUE TO FAILURE OF THE ADHESIVE. THIS ISSUE IS WIDESPREAD AND IS A REAL SAFETY HAZARD. APPARENTLY THE ENTIRE TOP TYPICALLY NEEDS TO BE REPLACED IF THIS HAPPENS, NOT JUST A RE-GLUE JOB. THE CAR HAS LESS THAN 17,000 MILES AND I'VE DRIVEN IT PROBABLY LESS THAN 50 MILES SINCE BUYING, YET NOW I AM FACED WITH A BIG REPAIR BILL TO MAKE THE CAR SAFE. CHRYSLER SHOULD COVER THIS TOP IN *ANY* CASE WHERE IT OCCURS (NOT JUST IN THE FEW SOUTHERN STATES THEY HAVE DEEMED APPLICABLE FOR COVERAGE). I AM IN VA, AND THAT'S WHERE THE CAR WAS ORIGINALLY DELIVERED. ANYBODY WHO SAYS VA DOESN'T HAVE HIGH HEAT AND HUMIDITY IS CRAZY. WE ARE JUST 75 MILES FROM NC, A COVERED STATE. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA ITEM NUMBER: 10042531 (VISIBILITY) THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO COVER AND CORRECT THE PROBLEM FOR 10 YEARS AND 100,000 MILES, BUT THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT COVERED BECAUSE IT WAS NOT REGISTERED IN A SOUTHERN STATE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 48,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 51,000.

TSB SB-23035-11REV A CHRYSLER INDICATED EVEN THOUGH THIS VEHICLE'S PROBLEM IS CONSISTANT WITH ALL OTHER COMPLAINTS BEING ADDRESSED BY WARRANTY X31 AND THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY BEING UTILIZED IN THE STATE OF TENNESEE WHERE THE "RECALL" IS ACTIVE THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT ORIGINALLY PURCHASED IN ONE OF THE COVERED STATES AND THEREFOE IS NOT COVERED. THIS POLICY IS NOT FAIR AND CONSISITANT. ALL 2005 CROSSFIRES WERE BUILT IN GERMANY, THEREFORE ORIGINATION POINT OR US STATE OF INITIAL SALE SHOULD NOT BE THE INDICATING FACTOR. IF THE FAILURE OCCURS DURING THE X31 WARRANTY EXTENSION PERIOD THEN THE REPAIR SHOULD BE COVERED. THIS IS A $3000.00 PROBLEM. *TR

HAVE READ HUNDREDS OF THE SAME COMPLAINTS PERTAINING TO THE 2005 ONLY. SUPPOSEDLY CHRYSLER HAS ADMITTED IT WAS A DEFECT. UNFORTUNATELY MY VIN # DOES NOT QUALITY AND I HAVE 137,000 MILES ON THE CAR. I HAVE BEEN ADVISED THAT THE WINDOW CANNOT BE REGLUED AND THE ONLY ANSWER IS A BRAND NEW TOP COSTING THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS. CHRYSLER KNEW OF THIS DEFECT YEARS AGO AND DID NOT NOTIFY ANYONE. IT SEEMS TO HAPPEN WHERE THE WEATHER IS WARM. IT WAS CLOSE TO 100 DEGREES WHEN THIS HAPPENED. I WAS GETTING READY TO GET ON THE HIGHWAY AND WHO KNOWS THE DAMAGE IT WOULD HAVE CAUSED MY CAR AND ANOTHER CAR DRIVING BEHIND ME IF THE WINDOW HAD COME OFF. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER TO GET THE WINDOW REPAIRED BUT THEY INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD HAVE TO BE TAKEN TO A GLASS SHOP FOR THE REPAIR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A GLASS SHOP BUT WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 54,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
