TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHRYSLER CROSSFIRE. WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD WIND NOISE AND THE REAR WINDOW SEPARATED FROM THE CONVERTIBLE TOP. THE TOP WAS CLOSED AT THE TIME AND THE FAILURE OCCURRED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT DEFECTIVE GLUE USED WAS BY THE MANUFACTURER AND THE CONVERTIBLE TOP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE BUT DID NOT OFFER ANY FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN WAS ISSUED, BUT EXPIRED LAST YEAR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE DID NOT RECEIVE THE TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 100,000.

I CAME OUTSIDE TO FIND THAT THE REAR WINDOW OF THE CONVERTIBLE TOP HAD COME LOOSE AND WAS LAYING ON THE REAR DECK BEING HELD TO THE FABRIC IN 1 SMALL PLACE. THE CAR HAD BEEN PARKED OUTSIDE FOR 1 DAY. LUCKILY IT DIDN'T FALL OUT WHILE I WAS DRIVING, POTENTIALLY SHATTERING THE GLASS NEAR MY HEAD. UNTIL THE CAR IS REPAIRED IT IS UNUSABLE IN FOUL WEATHER DUE TO WATER RUNNING IN THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT.

2005 CROSSFIRE CONVERTIBLE TOP BACK GLASS DEFECTIVE FACTORY USED ADHESIVE CAME MOSTLY SEPARATED FROM TOP. THE PART GLASS STILL HAD ADHESIVE TORE TOP. I HAD IT GLUED BUT ENTIRE TOP NEEDS REPLACING. GLASS CAME LOOSE WHILE PARKED. THE DESIGN AND ADHESIVE SHOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER PRODUCT. I HAVE HAD OTHER CONVERTIBLES HERE IN MISSISSIPPI AND NEVER HAD THIS HAPPEN. CHRYSLER SHOULD REPLACE ALL THESE TOPS. BACK GLASS REGLUED WITH WINDOW-WELD. IT NOT PERFECT NOW BECAUSE GLASS TORE TOP WHEN FELL OUT. LOVE THE CAR HATE THE TOP. HOPE THEY WILL STAND BEHIND THEIR NAME.

I BOUGHT THIS CAR WITH ONLY 26000 MILES ON IT THE BACK WINDSHIELD SEPARATED FROM THE CAR AT ONLY APPROXIMATELY 34000 MILES AND STILL CURRENTLY HANGING THERE. CALLED CHRYSLER AND THEY REFUSED TO FIX, SAID CAR WAS SHIPPED TO SOME DEALER UP NORTH, SO IT DOES NOT QUALIFY TO BE FIXED? ADDITIONALLY, I ONLY HAVE 40000 MILES ON IT NOW AND THE KEY AND FOB, AS WELL AS LOCKS NO LONGER WORK, THE CAR SHUTS OFF BY ITSELF WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY, THE LIGHTS FLASH ON THE DASH AT ALL TIMES.

IT'S HARD TO IMAGINE HOW ANYONE AT NHTSA CAN SIT AND REVIEW ALL THE REPORTS ON A SERIOUS MANUFACTURING DEFECT (AND SAFETY HAZARD) ON THESE CARS YET CHRYSLER GET AWAY WITH A PARTIAL RECALL BASED ON WHERE THE CROSSFIRES WERE INITIALLY DELIVERED. BOTTOM LINE: AS OF LATE 2011, CHRYSLER WILL DO THE "RIGHT THING" ONLY IF ONE'S CAR WAS "DELIVERED" IN ONE OF SEVERAL SOUTHERN STATES -- IN LIGHT OF THE FACT THAT THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE RELATED TO HEAT. CHRYSLER WILL NOT DO THE RIGHT THING IF THE SAME PROBLEM (THE REAR WINDOW FALLS OUT OF THE CONVERTIBLE TOP) IF THE CAR WAS DELIVERED SOMEWHERE ELSE -- AS IF THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURRING IN THOSE STATES IS SOMEHOW NOT A SERIOUS MANUFACTURING DEFECT. OR AS IF PEOPLE DON'T MOVE TO OTHER STATES DURING THEIR LIVES. I WILL NEVER BUY A CHRYSLER/FIAT PRODUCT AGAIN IN LIGHT OF HOW THE CHRYSLER COMPANY HASN'T STOOD BEHIND ITS PRODUCT AND REPAIRED THIS COMMON DEFECT -- A DEFECT THAT SHOULD NEVER OCCUR IN A MODERN CAR. THIS IS SO FAR FROM THE ATTITUDE OF MOST JAPANESE AND KOREAN CAR MANUFACTURERS THAT THE DIFFERENCE SUGGESTS THAT IT'S FLAT-OUT FOOLISH TO BY ANYTHING FROM THIS COMPANY. BUT WHEN IT COMES TO NHTSA, IT MAKES ONE WONDER WHY THAT AGENCY SITS ON ITS HANDS AND DOES NOTHING TO REQUIRE CHRYSLER TO EXTEND ITS SERVICE BULLETIN TO COVER ALL SUCH VEHICLES, NO MATTER WHERE DELIVERED. THE REAR GLASS WINDOW IN THE CONVERTIBLE SOFT TOP HAS COME UNGLUED AND IS FALLING OUT. THIS IS A SEVERE ISSUE WITH THIS MAKE OF CAR AND CHRYSLER REFUSES TO REPAIR OR REPLACE IT. AT ONE TIME, CHRYSLER AGREED TO EXTEND THE WARRANTY ON THESE VEHICLES TO 10 YEARS OR 100,000 MILES BUT ONLY TO CROSSFIRES THAT WERE SHIPPED TO CERTAIN SOUTHERN STATES, SUCH AS SOUTH CAROLINA, GEORGIA, FLORIDA, TENNESSEE, ALABAMA, MISSISSIPPI AND TEXAS. THEY FEEL ONLY THE CARS THAT ARE IN THESE WARMER CLIMATE STATES WILL BE AFFECTED. MY CAR IS A 2005 MODEL THAT I PURCHASED AS A USED VEHICLE FROM CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP IN JULY 2012, WHO DID NOT TELL ME ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND REFUSE TO REPAIR OR REPLACE THE TOP. IT WAS SHIPPED TO MI IN 2005 AND THEN WAS REGISTERED IN SC IN 2006. MY FEELING IS ALL OF THE AFFECTED CARS SHOULD BE UNDER WARRANTY AS IT'S A MANYFACTURER DEFECT. WHEN TRAVELING DOWN THE HIGHWAY I NOTICED THAT THE GLASS REAR WINDOW ON MY CONVERTIBLE 2005 CHRYSLER CROSSFIRE ROADSTER HAD BECOME PARTIALLY ( ONLY 6 INCHES WHERE ATTACHED AT TOP OF GLASS ) UNATTACHED FROM THE CANVAS TOP AND WAS HITTING AGAINST THE BODY WHEN I WOULD HIT A BUMP. WHEN I GOT HOME I DID AN INTERNET SEARCH ABOUT HOW TO FIX IT, AND FOUND THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE CROSSFIRE REAR WINDOW OF THIS MODEL YEAR.
