The contact owns a 2022 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid. The contact stated that while driving approximately 65 MPH, the message "Vehicle was Shutting Down" and a "Red Turtle" symbol was displayed. The contact stated that the engine was running but gradually lost motive power and stalled. The vehicle was turned off and restarted. The contact had driven the vehicle to a local dealer, who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent but recurring. The contact stated that recently when the warning light illuminated, the vehicle shut off. The contact had taken the vehicle three times to the same dealer however, the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and advised the contact that a case manager would call back and provided a case number. The failure mileage was 28,620.

While driving on the interstate in heavy traffic car displayed "Stop Safely - Vehicle will shut off soon" power was reduced and van started slowing down. Turning the vehicle off and on again cleared the problem. Dealer installed a software update and informed us the issue was corrected. Problem persists, happened again at interstate speeds in traffic. Vehicle is now again in the shop for diagnosis.
Within a 48 hour period, the vehicle twice displayed "Stop Safely Vehicle Will Shut Off Soon" and immediately lost engine power at highway speeds when driving with my two young children in the car. Narrowly escaped major accidents while trying to pull over to side of road. Car is at dealer now and they suspect transmission problem.
Driving on the freeway going roughly 70 MPH, on electrical power, and several instances (XXX, XXX, XXX, XXX, XXX) the dashboard displayed 'Stop Safely, Vehicle will Shut Off Soon' with a red turtle icon, also known as Limp Mode. In all instances we were able to safely maneuver over to the shoulder, turn off the engine for 1-2 minutes, and turn the vehicle back on. In most instances, the Check Engine light remained for a period of time (sometimes just a few hours, others a day). I have taken the vehicle in to 2 separate Chrysler dealerships. The first at CDJR of Los Angeles, who sent a STAR team and was unable to diagnose/replicate the issue, so they claim the issue had been solved. The second at CDJR of LAX where they replaced the Power Inverter Module (and also tightened a loose nut, which was another safety concern). Since both of those visits, the issue has persisted, including the loose nut which made a clunk sound every time when accelerating. This is a serious safety concern. I have spoken with Stelantis, and they refuse to take responsibility to resolve the issue. They only provide the robotic response that 'since the dealer cannot replicate the issue, they cannot do anything.' Complete [XXX]. The dealer has acknowledge error code P0843 in my vehicle, but currently it is not 'active', whatever that means. This is a serious problem that needs to be fixed! This is a good vehicle when it works. I love the PHEV that after 2 years, I only have 16k miles, and most of my miles, as my daily driver, are on electric power. But the issue with this error are severe. Chrysler was aware that there were cars stopping without prior notification, so their solution was updating the software so the system would have these notifications to alert the driver. What baloney! That does fix the issue! INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
As I was driving on the highway, the warning "Stop Safely Vehicle Will Shut Off Soon" with a red turtle icon appeared. The warning indicator light also appeared. The car began to decelerate on its own as I tried to merge across several lanes of highway traffic to get to the shoulder and stop. This first happened on Thursday December 12 (also in a highway scenario). The vehicle was inspected by my dealer from December 16-18. During that time the dealer updated software and replaced drivers side PHEV engine mount. The dealer cites "Bulletin 21-042-24" as guidance for their troubleshooting. The dealer says if the problem returns, the vehicle will "need transmission according to bulletin 21-042-24." I drove the vehicle fine on December 19-20 but the problem returned on Saturday, December 21. So the problem has occurred twice in 9 days.
Driving on highway and car shut off with a "Stop safely soon / vehicle turning off" warning message, a red turtle warning, and the Malfunction Indicator Light on. Pulled off on shoulder. Turned car off. Turned car back on. Malfunction Indicator Light remained on but red turtle was gone. I was able to get to my destination. Malfunction Indicator Light remained on for next few driving cycles, but then went off after fourth drive. My safety was definitely put at risk as I was driving on the highway at 60-70MPH when the car just shut down and slowly decelerated on its own. Because the MIL ultimately went off after my fourth drive, I thought I was in the clear--as the Chrysler manual says this light can come on if you've had a recent servicing because the on-board diagnostics may just be recalibrating. I had my car serviced 9 days previous to the incident. The manual says if the light doesn't go off on its own, then bring it in. It went off on its own, so I thought I was in the clear. However I see in online forums this has happened to others multiple times and I'm worried it will happen to me again. I am calling my dealer tomorrow. Thank you for taking this report!
I have driven around 19809 miles so far in last two plus years of owning this vehicle. Yesterday night (11/10/2024) while driving on a highway at a speed of 65-70 range, there was a sudden flash saying "Stop Safely Vehicle will shutoff soon" The gas pedal was not working at all. Luckily without any majow accident, i could move towards the emergency lane and then turned off the engine. Then after some time when started, The Engine malfunction symbol remained but the flash warning wasn't there, so i could drive.
I was driving on the interstate with adaptive cruise control active. The gasoline engine was running. The vehicle suddenly made a "ding" sound, and the main driver screen displayed an error message "Stop Safely. The Vehicle Will Shut Off Soon". The engine shut down and vehicle completely lost motive power. I had to rapidly change across three lanes of traffic to reach the shoulder while losing speed, where I eventually parked with the hazard lights on. As we sat parked on the shoulder, the driver screen screen also showed a red battery-shaped indicator in the upper left, and an orange speedometer with an exclamation point in the upper right.
The contact owns a 2022 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled. The contact stated that the message that the vehicle would attempt to shut off was displayed. The vehicle was able to restart; however, the failure recurred, with the same message displayed. Additionally, the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 19,063.

While driving on major highway, A/C stopped blowing cold air. Out side temperature above 80 degrees. Engine light came on, and later quick warning to this effect" caution, car will shut off soon" And less than 15 seconds or so engine turned off and we LUCKILY coasted across lanes to the breakdown lane. That could have been disastrous! Car would not restart. After about an hour we were able to restart the car and driver again for maybe 30 minutes before AC shut off again. This time we made it to an unscheduled hotel. Next morning car was fine, ran fine to our destination.4 days later driving home. Temp above 80. Driving for more than 3 hours..same sequence; AC shuts off, Caution warning, engine shutdown.
While driving, vehicle chimes and displays "Stop Safely Vehicle will Shut Off Soon." While brakes and steering remain available, throttle control is instantly gone and vehicle needs to be coasted to a safe stop. Upon powering off and waiting ~10 minutes, the vehicle will restart (with check engine light and "service charing system" displayed) and drive normally. This situation happened four times while attempting to make it back home safely (once on an interstate traveling ~70 mph, twice on a highway traveling ~55 mph, and once in town at ~30 mph). Thankfully all situations had adequate shoulder and understanding traffic, but with instant loss of power, the vehicle is incredibly dangerous.
Outside temperature was over 80 degrees, we were driving long distance on a highway. First the air conditioning failed. Then the "Remaining miles on battery" started to go up ( even though it had been a long time since we charged). When it got to about 12, we got a dashboard message that said "Engine shutting down, get to a safe place". We pulled over just in time as the engine did shut off, the shutdown happened in about 15 seconds. The car did not restart for at least 30 minutes. Message said something about "Check charging system". This happened repeatedly, leaving us in dangerous conditions on the side of the very busy highway. "Check Engine" light was on. At least once we had a message that said something about "Check Powertrain". One dealer checked the code on his computer, but could not help any further as they were too busy. He would not give us the paper with the code. We took the car to a dealer when we got home. The "Check Engine" light had turned off, but the dealer cannot find any problems with the car. It is a huge safety problem when your car shuts down with very little notice. We are afraid to drive the car now.
The car has a red triangle come up and the car just turns off It has happen 3 times and has been in the shop 2 times and and at this time it going on the 3 month
We were driving on the highway when we got a warning to pull over safely as the vehicle will shut down soon. The accelerator became unresponsive, and the vehicle began losing power. This has happened a number of times and we took it into the dealer who replaced the transmission. However, on various social media sites, it has been reported that this has been happening to many many people. This is an extremely dangerous situation for so many people unaware of the potential. As I understand it, they replace the transmission with a like transmission. The problem is not actually being solved. They are simply offering a short term fix with the potential for it to happen again. It is reported by others that their second transmission has done the same thing. Below is one example of a social media post where others have claimed the same issue. [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Vehicle shut down. Engine light came on. Confirmed electric inverter was the code. PIM module needs to be replaced.
Last week on the freeway I suffered the issue described in 23V-010 while traveling at around ~75MPH. This was after the fix applied by the recall. My car suddenly began to slow and I was forced to navigate to the side of the road, and stop on the freeway with cars whizzing by, until I could turn off the vehicle and turn it back on. I am hoping to take the car into the dealer within the next few weeks once they confirm that a loaner vehicle is available. Otherwise, I am concerned about the car randomly losing significant propulsion during critical driving events (e.g. getting onto the freeway, changing lanes, etc) or in an area where I cannot pull over safely. Ironically, during my last service appointment I was provided the same vehicle as a loaner. The loaner vehicle from the dealer shut down on me 15 minutes after receiving it with the same issue. So, I suspect the issue is widespread.
On three separate days (2/27, 3/18, 3/29), the vehicle has shown a message saying “Stop safely, Vehicle will shut off soon”. The ability to accelerate is cut off. This has happened twice while on the highway, requiring a move across lanes to pull over safely due to loss of acceleration. After turning the car off, the car is able to turn back. The check engine light remains on for the next trip, but turns off on its own by the next day. This is a vehicle which was recently serviced for the following recalls: 1. NHTSA 23V-010 (unexpected engine shut down) completed on 1/16 2. FCA Campaign 47A (squealing serpentine belt) completed on 2/11
We got this message on the dashboard that the vehicle will shut off please pull over safely in the middle of freeway. I couldn't do that and was stuck in highway shoulder with kids and family in the car for couple of hours. This was scary.
I ran into a very dangerous situation last Monday. I was driving on a freeway and car Brokedown, accelarator unresponsive , got "Service charging system" car lost power It was very dangerous and someohow I was able to get into Shoulder lane and with God's grace we survived. After 3 4 minutes I was able to get my car turn off and on and then it drove with minimal speed 12m/hr. So I decided to take it in nearby open parking area and get it towed. This is serious life threatening especially with family.
While on interstate in busy Atlanta traffic received loss of power warning. Engine is about to stop pulled over to side of road, but shoulder was very narrow and feared for our lives as car was very close to traffic lane. Called Chrysler roadside assistance. Long delay. After a couple of attempts to restart, I was able to get off the road into a shop. Mechanic reported code P0A43. Drive motor sensor. Taking to dealer tomorrow. After half a mile car would not move, and this could have resulted in a fatal accident if I couldn’t get to the shoulder. Previously reported to dealer knocking in transmission when accelerating and decelerating. Dealer said that was normal. However, my previous 2022 Pacifica hybrid did not do that.
There has been several incidents where we experienced sudden engine loss and the vehicle and computer powered off while operating the vehicle. We reported these safety concerns to AutoNation Carlsbad and they were unable to recreate this problem. We have escalated these concerns to the Chrysler’s retention team. Their retention team recommends that we scheduled a follow up service appointment with a second service department.
Driving from Louisiana to Kansas for the holidays in our 2022 Pacifica Hybrid, and received notice popped up that car was about to shut down and pull off road quickly. This appears to be associated with a recall we did take the car in for but apparently the recall only changed software to tell you the car was about to shut down and didn't fix the issue with the car actually shutting down! This happened to us 4 times. 3 times we had time and space to pull over, wait, and restart. 4th time was immediate note and shutdown but fortunately we were at a stop light and cars could go around us until we were able to restart. We could have been seriously injured or killed had this happened on a busy interstate. This was a Saturday so no service open and I couldn't risk putting my family back in that car so Monday when dealership was open I drove to dealership. Renting a car was to be very expensive $3500 or so to drive back up around end of year. No dealers within 60 miles could even look at the car for several days, and repair was going to be 1-3 months from what dealer and on-line info about it looked to be. My best option was to trade it off when I got it to the dealership but a very costly option! This issue needs to be fixed or people are going to be seriously injured or killed. The warning doesn't give but a few seconds to get off the road and that won't work on an interstate going through a major city! I don't know if the car is fixed as the dealer has it now and we have a new Pacific at much cost to us.
This letter is for a near fatality while driving my new 2022 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid on October 30th, 2023. While driving back home on a dark and stormy night with poor visibility on i87 North my 2022 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid shutdown nearly causing a fatal accident. My 3 kids (ages 4, 5, and 8) were in the car with me. The car blinked power and i lost motor function (no acceleration), the car went from around 70-75 miles per hour to almost 40 forcing me to try and get over to the shoulder. During this stressful process a mac truck nearly ran us off the road traumatizing me and my kids. While on the shoulder I tried everything to get the car back on, after turning off and on the car several times I was able to drive very slowly (max speeds of 1-20 miles per hour) with me pressing the gas pedal at full throttle. I was able to get off the New Palz exit which was 4 miles from the incident and call triple A for a tow truck back to Dutches Dodge. Since the incident, I've been working with FCA and looking for guidance on what can be done for my Family. The process has been very difficult with Dutches Dodge refusing to talk to us. Chrysler failed me with an unsafe car, I feel punished for being a responsible and safe driver. I brought in the car for recall 03A/NHTSA 23v-010 in July which did a software update for an internal transmission wiring connector. Based on the FCA case [XXX], I was told the STAR investigation found fault 21-008-23 which is for the internal transmission wiring connector. The software update does not seem to fix the issue, how many others are at risk? The car was proposed new on 12/13/2023 and had less than 12000 miles on it, all we know is the car needs an entire new transmission and new recall which we were not aware of for a serpentine belt. How can Chrysler assure us that the issue is fixed? Since the incident I have been dealing with post traumatic stress. Apart from having to take time off work and losing motivation I've felt that FCA does INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF I
I was driving on the highway on cruise control at 75 mph. Since the car is a hybrid plug-in it first uses the electric battery which contains 30 miles of usage. Once that drains out, then the engine takes control. about 8 miles after the electric battery drained out the van showed a message saying “please pull over safely car will turn off soon”. Within seconds I was not able to push on the gas pedal to go faster to get off the highway. I ended up being stuck between the main highway and a merging Lane. the worst part was I was alone with my two babies under two years old stuck on the highway, not on the shoulder. We are also in Arizona and it is very dangerous to not have AC in a car for babies. My air conditioning ended up not working after a couple minutes while I’m stuck on the highway. The car is still running but the steering wheel is locked and I am unable to push on the gas to move. I ended up getting a tow truck from AAA after 45 mins. my van has been at the Chrysler dealership for a week and they will not do anything about this situation. They say nothing is wrong. There is a current lawsuit in the state of Michigan with multiple Chrysler Pacifica van owners across the US in regards to the transmissions failing, and Chrysler is not doing anything about it. This is so dangerous for everyone, especially families with young children. this problem needs to be fixed immediately and to be taking seriously to protect all those on the road.
After recall, vehicle continues to suffer from engine shutdown due to electrical fault in transmission wiring harness
The contact owns a 2022 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid. The contact stated that while driving approximately 70 MPH, the vehicle stalled and was restarted after five minutes. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 28,000.

While driving, vehicle shut down with a small warning on dashboard, leaving occupants stranded in roadway with no way to move vehicle. It took about an hour before it allowed us to drive it. Onboard diagnostics reported misfire.
My 2022 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid Pinnacle with 9K miles has started shutting down while driving making it very scary and unsafe. A message will pop up on the dash "STOP SAFELY My 2022 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid Pinnacle with 9K miles has started shutting down while driving making it very scary and unsafe. A message will pop up on the dash "STOP SAFELY Vehicle Will Shut Off Soon" then the vehicle powers off. It will happen at different times: with cruise control on while on an interstate, on a highway or driving in town at speeds under 35mph. After researching online apparently this has been an issue with the Hybrid Pacifica for several years. Chrysler has not been any help to our local Chrysler dealer for a fix. From a scared mom afraid to drive with her children, Please advise. [XXX] [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Was driving on freeway with my family, including my one year old baby and four year old daughter in the back, when a warning message came on dashboard stating "Stop Safely Vehicle Will Shut Off Soon" and van suddenly died in the middle of the freeway. Had to immediately cross multiple lanes and was terrified I was going to get hit by a big rig or other vehicle passing by. The safety of my family was absolutely put at risk. Contacted Chrysler dealership immediately but told they did not have any available appointments and could not examine the van until Thursday, 07/21/2023. Took the van to local dealership on Thursday, 07/21/23. Next day received a call and was told that the transmission needs to be replaced. The van was new when we bought it in February 2022 and had less than 15K miles when this incident happened. Was told by dealership that it could be months before the van can be repaired and that no loaner cars were available but that I would be placed on a wait list for a loaner car. Instructed by dealer to contact Chrysler Cares, which I did. Was assigned a case number by Chrysler Cares and told that someone would get back to me within 48-72 business hours, but that in the meantime there was nothing that could be done about the fact that the one vehicle we rely on to transport our kids is in the shop.
Driving on the highway and the car stalled. Was told to pull over due to loss of power with a red turtle on the screen. This has been happening to allot of people. Barely had time to get over. There was a recall software update to provide warning, but that just gives warning but does not fix the issue as its a transmission problem. Now check engine light is on and has to go to dealer
Three (3) incidents between 36 miles and 110 miles on brand new minivan - beginning 6/10, 6/11 and today 6/14. The first time the vehicle was plugged in charging 120v l1 charger, my kids came to me and said the van is making noise all the time. The key was inside the house about 75 feet away. It sounded like the cooling fans were running, varying in speed every minute or so up to high speed, the dash was lit up with battery error, transmission error, and charging error messages, the red wrench with electric bolt was lit, maybe other messages. I unplugged everything, tried to shut off restart car from keyfob, the doors were left open, the start button did nothing, the shift knob was stuck in P and locked. Nothing would unlock the knob. It appeared to be a computer glitch, I removed the neg battery cable and reattached it and the car started and the messages cleared. The second time while driving the car lost power and stopped, same issue, luckily I had a pliers with me and I again rebooted the 12v system and it ran fine again. During both these events the dash always said "regen engine oil and fuel in progress" This time i tried to reset the oil life monitor, it made no diff to the regen message and I noticed the new hybrid car was not using any battery so it seems the engine was running all the time. The regen message remained for days until I decided to get gas, I read adding 4 gal might clear the message. I went to the gas station and again today 6/14 as I parked at the gas pump the car dies before I even got out to pump gas blocking the pumps, I quickly reboot, but the doors would not open, I crawled to the back and rebooted the 12v system and added 4 gals. When I restarted the car it ran normally again, then the regen message cleared and the electric motor began propelling the car as intended.
When driving approximately 65 mph on the highway, alert on the vehicle display came on saying to pull over the engine would shut down soon. We were able to pull over and the car no longer worked. We were driving with our family of young children in the car, had there been no shoulder to pull over on the highway we would have been extreme danger.
While driving on a freeway at about 70mph, the "Stop Safely Vehicle Will Shut Off Soon" warning message displayed. Additionally on the dashboard, the BRAKE (red warning light), the yellow engine light, the red turtle light displayed. The car quickly lost power and speed was quickly reduced to about 30 mph. The car continued to slow down and I was able to coast to the shoulder. I could have easily been injured or killed trying to get to the shoulder without any power from the engine. The transmission recall had been fixed the day prior. Car was towed to the dealership and needed a new transmission. Have been waiting for a new transmission for over 2 months.
While driving on highway on4/22/23 the vehicle displayed a message stating “stop safely, vehicle will shut off soon”. I lost the ability to accelerate and had to coast to the nearest shoulder. This happened during a high traffic period and I had children in the car. At the time there was no shoulder near by so I had to drive on the busy highway at very slow speeds until I could pull over. This was a very dangerous incident and I’m lucky I was not in an accident.
Engine stopped at highway speed, instrument cluster displayed message for a restart sequence even though car was coasting. Once vehicle was stopped had to change from run mode to off mode and then was able to restart and proceed. Check engine light was amber. After restart engine stalling continued randomly without warning during our trip. I need this corrected and vehicle to perform as advertised, thank you.
During the month of March, 2023, my vehicle completely shut down on two occasions, both of which occurred while traveling at highway speeds. There were dash icons that were lit, including a check engine light, a turtle icon and a message to Pull Over. The shutdown caused me to move quickly to the shoulder of the road, with limited ability to maneuver in a safe manner. These shutdowns occurred after the vehicle had its software updated based on Recall 03A (Loss of Motive Power). Apparently, the update only served to provide a warning on the dash that the engine was about to shut down (which occurred immediately). The dealer has had the vehicle for some time, and the latest update is that they are replacing the vehicle's transmission. It would seem unacceptable if, in fact, a (known?) issue that causes a shutdown was addressed by merely providing a millisecond's notice that the vehicle is going to completely die. This is an extremely unsafe situation, placing the motorist, their passengers and nearby vehicles in danger.
Vehicle had a sudden loss of engine power while at speed traveling on the highway. We were able to safely pull over, and after a few minutes restart the vehicle. After additional driving we encountered the issue again, at speed on the hoghway, however the vehicle did not shut down properly and would not start after repeated attempts. The vehicle would show the ignition was on 'run' however would either not allow shifting into gear, or upon shifting into gear immediately throw an error message on the dash stating to shift into park and restart the vehicle. I believe that this issue will not be fixed by a recall where the solution is advanced warning of an engine shutdown. We are fortunate to ha e had this happen when we were in a position to pull over safely as the speed of the vehicle plummeted unsafely after loss of engine power. This happened on Saturday March 11, the previous night the vehicle had been charged overnight. The loss of power was not experienced untill the hybrid battery charge had been depleted and the vehicle was running on the combustion engine
February 23rd: car shut off while getting off the freeway. Would not restart for 5 minutes. Had no acceleration but could still steer. February 23rd: brought car to the dealership, they scanned the car and there was no code. February 26th: car shut off 3 times on the freeway going 70mph. Had to pull over and restart car to be able to accelerate. I had my 2 kids in the car at this time and fear for their safety. March 1st- car shut off on the freeway going 70 mph. Had to pull over carefully again. Turn off the car, open the car door, wait a few minutes, restart. March 3rd- car shut off on the freeway again. Brought car to the dealership again, they asked for me to drop it off on Monday. March 6th- left car at dealership. They said it needs a new transmission and would be a minimum of 30 days to replace it, but most likely longer.
Event 1: On Feb 5, 2023 my car lost engine power suddenly while I was driving. I had my entire family with me and had to somehow maneuver myself away from traffic and avoid any accident. There was a malfunction light that came on once the engine stalled. And the screen was reading that engine has lost power, please stop and restart the car. Right after this incidence, I got an email from Chrysler reporting there is a recall on my vehicle for lost engine power. Event 2: I get the vehicle back from repair and reported that the recall has been fixed on Feb 18th. Again while riding the vehicle on Feb 18th with my family the car gives a warning that the Engine is about to stop and I need to stop safely. Also there is a red turtle on the screen and the car completely stops accelerating even if I press the gas pedal. I was at that movement on an interchange ramp between two express ways and had several fast moving vehicles around me and no engine power to maneuver myself. I had to stop the vehicle on a side on the fast moving highway and narrowly escaped getting stuck from vehicle coming from behind. I had to call in a tow vehicle and highway patrol to help get me and my family to safety.
Van shutoff on the highway going 60- 65 mph with my wife and two kids under six. Winter time snow plowed road so no available shoulder due to snow mounds. Van quit running during rush hour. Car coasted to a stop and would not restart. Had to be towed. Dealer said it was a known issue. Googled it and there were news articles about the issue. Van gave no warning it was shutting down. Dealer has had the 2022 Chrysler Pacifica plug in hybrid for 30 days in the service shop and still don’t have a fix for it. Opened a case with Chrysler, Case Number 85533496
While driving on the freeway at 60-70 mph, in 20 degree weather at night, the engine suddenly, and without warning, stopped. A dash error message showed instructions to put the car in park and push the start / run button. The van was still traveling at a high rate of speed while the message stayed up and the van had to be carefully maneuvered through traffic, across multiple lanes to the next exit, without the ability to accelerate when needed. Somehow no one was hurt and the vehicle did not get into an accident, but it came to a stop in the middle of the exit ramp, which had a steep uphill grade. The van was unable to be restarted. A Good Samaritan helped push the car to a nearby lot while car was in neutral. It was unable to be started then and two and three days later. The roadside assistance couldn’t be provided until a few days later because the incident occurred at the beginning of the weekend. The vehicle was finally towed to the closest dealership today. The dealership said the software update is available for the recall of potential loss of motive power, which appears to be the issue we experienced. They said it would take 2-3 weeks to look at the vehicle due to their backlog. I called the dealership where we bought it, and they said the same. Also, based on initial research, it seems the software update will only give advance warning when an electrical short is about to cause the engine to stop so the driver can have advanced warning and presumably drive to safety without an accident. Unfortunately, the manufacturer still needs to address the root cause and build a solution to prevent the electrical short from happening in the first place. The situation is troubling and the manufacturer and both dealerships are even stalling in getting us a complimentary loaner vehicle. Also note that we were not instructed to stop driving the vehicle when we found out about the recall prior to the incident. Again the van won’t be fixed for weeks, NHTSA shows no remedy yet
Second complaint for same issue. Our vehicle stalled 6 times over the course of 17 miles driving around town, maximum of 50 MPH at times. We have multiple videos of this. Have contacted Chrysler and was told they do not have a fix for this issue even though they are aware it is a safety issue. Awaiting call back on how they will help resolve this issue ASAP as the car is basically undrivable with stalling that many times in such a short trip!
My car has lost power unexpectedly while driving 3 times in the past month. Twice on the highway, and once in a residential area. I had to coast until I could safely pull over. The engine light stays lit for up to 1 day. The "D" in the gear shifter flashes. After turning off the ignition for several minutes, the engine will restart and the car can resume driving. The Chrysler service department says they cannot find anything wrong with my vehicle and it may be due to the recall issue. This sudden loss of power is extremely dangerous and I am fearful every time I drive this car. Customer service has been extremely unhelpful. A case has been opened for me for 2 weeks now and no one ever calls me, even though I have been repeatedly told someone will reach out to me. I have been calling almost daily and all I am told is that there is no repair available for the recall out on my vehicle and they cannot provide me with a rental. I'm not sure what needs to happen before someone will help me. Either I will end up in a vehicle collision and I will have to pursue legal recourse, or I may have to look into the lemon law. Extremely disappointed in Chrysler.
While driving on the highway, the vehicle coaster to a stop. It gave a warning to plug in the battery for conditioning and the D was blinking. It said to put to P to stop. Was able to coast to the side of the highway safely and vehicle had to be stopped and turned off to be able to run. This happened 4 times in under 30 miles on the highway.
I drive on the freeway, and I lost any power with the car, I'm lucky my baby was not in my car on that day. It happened two times and I go to the Mopar service center, they tell me they don't have the part for that, and I ask them what's should I do with that situation, and they said that's a good question, I have no idea, but you can wait for the part and I don't know when the part comes in maybe a week, and maybe few months.
Unknown, recall to be issued but nothing yet and we are driving in potentially unsafe cars with our family!!!
Vehicle lost ability to accelerate on highway engine shit off, lost power steering, dashboard read “press break and push button to start” as though vehicle were turned off. Dashboard displayed default message “service hybrid electric vehicle system”. Happened 3 times in span of 3 days. 2 of which were on the highway, the 3rd was on exit ramp of highway. The inability to accelerate/loss of power steering while driving is a huge safety concern. We called dealership, service manager immediately acknowledged safety concern and picked up vehicle at our home. Vehicle is currently being evaluated at dealership.
On 11/19/22, while driving to a family member's for Thanksgiving week, we stopped to get gas and turned the vehicle off. When attempting to start, we received a "Service Charging System" error on the dash and the vehicle would not start. Fortunately after waiting several minutes we were able to get it started and made it to our destination. The next morning it did not start and we had it towed to the nearest dealer. The issue was reproduced at the dealer and they did some things to clear error codes, recalls, etc. and the vehicle started one day but then the issue reoccurred the next day. After three weeks they were able to upgrade the hybrid system software which seemed to do the trick. We picked up the vehicle and drove it home. Two weeks later on Christmas day when we were leaving a family party the issue came back and we were not able to get it started. The next day 12/26/22, we had it towed to the nearest dealer where it is currently at as of this writing. When it was delivered to the dealer the issue was still present however they did not bring it in to service for a week and when they did the issue was not there. They are working to recreate the issue to try and diagnose. There were no warnings or error messages in advance of this issue occurring. Luckily this issue did not happen while driving as that would have put myself and family in a dangerous system. The fact that this issue has not been resolved and seems to occur randomly is a major concern. I do not feel safe driving this vehicle knowing that this can happen and leave us stranded or in an unsafe situation. We are currently working with the dealer with hopes of a solution but this is a serious issue.
We were driving our Chrysler Pacifica hybrid on the highway and it stalled and said put into park and completely turned off. When we pulled over to the side of the road, the car would not start and had to be towed to the dealership. It was very unsafe and not the first time that our car has turned off.
Have a 2022 Chrysler Pacifica Pinnacle which we picked up 10/8. This incident occured 11/3, Issue occurred with car under 1000 miles driven. So less than 1 month of ownership. Driving on 4 lane highway during stop and go traffic. Driving approximately 15-20 MPH. Car suddenly loses all forward motive power with engine light and battery light flashing on dashboard. in center dash it was saying "Service Charging System". Luckily, was able to coast to shoulder of highway. Was unable to restart car for 15 minutes, Car kept saying to put into P and until after completely turning the car off by opening the driver side door to simulate leaving the vehicle, and then closing the door. Drove to dealer and car stored DTC P0A45 error code, which they cleared and test drove for 50 miles. They could not reproduce the issue. Losing driving power is very dangerous while driving at any speed! this is a HUGE safety concern for my family with two small children. This needs to be investigated and a cause determined! This is a major accident or even death waiting to happen!
While driving on the freeway, check engine light came on, all acceleration power was lost, car directed me to “put car in park, press brake, and push start button.” This led to extremely dangerous situation of having to navigate traffic and reach the shoulder with no ability to accelerate. Vehicle was powered down and restarted and was able to return to the road. This has happened 10 times total. This is the first reoccurrence since getting the power inverter module replaced at the dealership four days ago.
2022 Hybrid pacifica limited Breakdown on freeway, accelarator became unresponsive and car stopped. Hi all, I have a pacifica hybrid 2022 limited with 8000 miles on it. Less then 7 months old.I ran into a very dangerous situation last Monday. I was driving on a freeway and car Brokedown on freeway, accelarator unresponsive , HMI said shift P to start , gear change didn't do anything and blinking, check engine light came up. It was very dangerous and someohow I was able to get into Shoulder lane and with God's grace we survived. After 3 4 minutes I was able to get my car turn off and on and then it drove normal. So I decided to take it in nearby open parking area and get it towed from there but even then it broke down 4 times. This is serious life threatening especially with family. I got it towed to dealership and they said next day a Software update fixed it which was hard to believe so i asked them to drive for 25 miles and guess what ? Same issue happened again. So car is back to service now and I haven't heard anything back. Worst part is i had similar issue of car shutting down but that time it was in electric mode related to service charging and this was in gas mode with check engine light ON. I just wanted to see if anyone else had similar issue and how it got resolved? Thanks for the help. I am attaching some videos
Driving on a major highway with little to no shoulder, we were accelerating up a slight incline going 65 miles per hour on a route loaded with semi trucks. As we accelerated the engine cut off taking away the ability to accelerate. We had to pull to the shoulder and the vehicle kept cycling all of its lights on and off. We were able to get the car moving again and within 5 minutes the same thing happened, engine turned off. Vehicle was towed to a Chrysler dealer, it showed 17 error codes thrown, Chrysler's policy was to reset the codes and drive 25 miles to replicate if it doesn't replicate send it home which is what they did. As our family was again on a highway accelerating the engine cut off with no ability to accelerate. We turned the vehicle off and started it again and the engine cut off leaving us to coast off the highway. Chrysler is now stating it's a software update that is needed and we are at day 4 with no car for a second time in two weeks
