2005 CHRYSLER PACIFICA TOURING HAS RUSTED ENGINE CRADLE. FOR SOME REASON THIS CAR IS NOT COVERED FOR THE RECALL BUT IT CLEARLY IS AFFECTED BY WHAT EVER THE MANUFACTURER FAILED TO COMPLETE ON CAR TO ENSURE IT WOULD REMAIN SAFE. I HAVE A BIG WHOLE AND MOTOR COULD FALL OUT. I NEED HELP ON TRYING TO GET EXPENSIVE ITEM PAID FOR. THE SUSPENSION IS HORRIBLE ALL ISSUES JUST NOT A GOOD CAR AT ALL.

THIS IS THE SECOND 2005 PACIFIC THAT THE ROCKER UNDER THE CAR IS CRACKED AND RUSTED AWAY. I TOOKBTHE CAR INTO MONROE ON JONESTOWN RD HARRISBURG PA AND THEY EXPLAINED TO ME THAT IT IS SO RUSTED THAT THE MOTOR WILL FALL OUT AND THEY WOULDN'T EVEN DO AN OIL CHANGE FOR ME BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T WANT TO DAMAGE IT ANY FARTHER.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHRYSLER PACIFICA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT END SUSPENSION WAS UNSTABLE. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC REPLACED THE RACK AND PINION, PROVIDED AN ALIGNMENT MORE THAN THREE TIMES, AND REPLACED THE SHOCK ABSORBER AND UPPER AND LOWER CONTROL ARMS ON BOTH SIDES; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE VEHICLE SWAYED LEFT AND RIGHT, WHICH CAUSED THE CONTACT TO APPLY FORCE TO MANEUVER THE STEERING WHEEL TO CONTROL THE DIRECTION OF THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT ISSUED ANY RECALLS FOR THE SUSPENSION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000.

I NATURALLY WENT OUT TO LOOK AT MINE TO MAKE SURE IT DID NOT HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. I WAS VERY DISAPPOINTED. I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE FOR A FAMILY VEHICLE AND NOW DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING IT WITH MY 4 CHILDREN AND CANNOT AFFORD THE REPAIRS AS MY SAVINGS WAS USED TO PURCHASE SAID VEHICLE. AFTER DOING A MAJOR REPAIR OF $800 ON MY CAR FOR A NEW WATER PUMP AND TIMING CHAIN. I WAS TOLD THAT MY CRADLE HOLDING THE ENGINE IN PLACE COULD DROP ANY MINUTE BECAUSE OF THE RUST. MY MECHANIC INFORMED ME THAT HE WOULD NOT RECOMMEND DRIVING THIS VEHICLEBECAUSE AT ANYTIME THE EGINE AND STERINGCOLOM COULD FALL OUT ANY MONENT.THE CRADLE HOLD THESE ITEMS IN WERE RUSTED OUT SO BAD.. I LOOKED ONLINE AND NOTICED THERE WAS MANY PEOPLE COMPLAINING OF THIS. LET'S GET SOMETHING DONE BEFORE SOMEONE DIES. THANK YOU MY MECHANIC TOKE PICTURES OF ALL THIS RUST. I RECEIVED A CALL FROM THE SHOP TELLING ME MY VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE THAT THE SUBFRAME IN THE FRONT IS RUSTED THROUGH. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH PACIFICA ENGINE CRADLES THE COST TO FIX IT WILL BE 4,000 THAT'S WHAT I PAID FOR THE VEHICLE.

IF A MECHANIC HADN'T NOTED THE HAZARD I WOULD BE IN GRAVE DANGER CONTINUING TO DRIVE THE CAR. MY SISTER TOOK MY VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE TO ADD FREON TO HAVE IT READY FOR THIS SUMMER.OUR MECHANIC DROVE THE CAR IN TOWN AND BACK TO HIS SHOP AND NOTICE A RATTLING NOISE COMING FROM MY ENGINE. HE INSPECTED IT AND NOTICE THE MOTOR MOUNTS ARE VERY WORN OUT AND THE ENGINE CRADLE COVER WAS VERY LOOSE WHICH WOULD BE A SAFETY HAZARD IF I CONTINUE TO DRIVE MY VEHICLE IN THAT CONDITION. ONCE HE WENT IN TO REPLACE THE MOUNT HE NOTICE THEY WERE IN VERY POOR QUALITY AND HAD NO SUPPORTED PADDING. AS IF THE PADDING WAS VERY POOR QUALITY AS TO WHY THEY WERE WORN OUT. I AM LUCKY OUR MECHANIC NOTICE THIS IF NOT IT WOULD OF JEOPARDIZE MY ROAD SAFETY IF I WOULD OF CONTINUE DRIVING IT. I DID SOME RESEARCH ON LINE AND NOTICE OTHER PEOPLE HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AND I TRULY BELIEVE THIS NEEDS TO BE OPEN AGAIN AND BE INVESTIGATED. I FIND CHRYSLER POOR JUDGEMENT OF NOT NOTIFYING THERE CUSTOMERS OF THEIR 2004-2005 PACIFICA OWNERS OF THIS ISSUE BESIDES THERE CORROSION ENGINE CRADLE COVERS RECALL ONLY FOR THE 2004 PACIFICA AND DISMISS THE 2005 PACIFICA YET AT THE TIME THEY WERE AWARE OF THE MOTOR MOUNTS POOR QUALITY AND DISMISSING THE ISSUE. WHEN YET IN FACT IS STILL A SAFETY ISSUE FOR THE 2005 PACIFICA OF HAVING POOR QUALITY MOTOR MOUNTS IN THERE VEHICLES AND KNOWING THEY HAD USED POOR QUALITY PRODUCTS AT THAT TIME. I DO BELIEVE THIS WOULD OF CAUSE MY OWN SAFETY IF MY MECHANIC DID NOT NOTICE THIS IN MY OWN VEHICLE. I WANT TO MAKE SURE NO ONE ELSE IS PUT IN THIS SITUATION FOR NOT KNOWING OF THIS ISSUE.I THINK A RECALL NEEDS TO BE IN PLACE ON THE MOTOR MOUNTS FOR THE 2005 CHRYSLER PACIFICA'S. MY 2005 CHRYSLER PACIFICA STARTED MAKING NOISE IN FRONT PASSENGER SIDE IN THE SUSPENSION AND WHEEL AREA WHILE ON THE INTERSTATE. A SHORT TIME LATER THE FRONT PASSENGER WHEEL STARTED SHAKING AND WOBBLING UNCONTROLLABLY AT SPEEDS OF 65MPH. THEIR WAS NO WARNING! THANK GOD I WAS ENTERING TOWN AND WAS CLOSE TO HOME. I GOT THE CAR HOME AND HAD FRIEND WHO IS A MECHANIC INVESTIGATE THE PROBLEM. WHAT HE FOUND WAS SCARY!!!!! THE WHOLE SUB FRAME AND ENGINE CRADLE WAS ALMOST COMPLETELY GONE DUE TO SEVERE RUSTING IN THE EXACT AREA WHERE THE SUSPENSION COMPONENTS ATTACH TO THE FRAME. SUPER BAD DAY WHEN I SHOWED THE PICTURES TO 3 DIFFERENT LOCAL AUTOMOTIVE SHOPS WITH WELL OVER 100 YRS OF EXPERIENCE COMBINED AND ALL INFORMED ME THAT THE ESTIMATED COST TO REPAIR WAS 4000.00 UP TO 5500.00. COMPLETELY ABSURD! CAR IS WORTHLESS AND ONLY HAS 100,000 MILES ON IT. YOU SHOULD MAKE CHRYSLER OWN UP TO EVERY PACIFICA THAT HAS THIS PROBLEM, NOT JUST A FEW THAT WAS MANUFACTURED IN A FEW MONTHS. THEIR IS OVERWHELMING EVIDENCE THAT THEY DIDN'T COAT THE FRAME PROPERLY. I WILL BE SHARING MY PICTURES AND WHEN YOU SEE THEM ASK YOURSELF IF YOU WOULD WANT YOUR FAMILY DRIVING THESE CARS AND HAVING TO SPEND A VERY LARGE AMOUNT OF MONEY TO FIX THEM PROPERLY. CHRYSLER IS DOING NOTHING BECAUSE THE NHTSA ISN'T MAKING THEM. PLEASE TAKE MY SMALL PORTION OF THIS RIDICULOUS NIGHTMARE AND CONSIDER AT THE LEAST MAKING CHRYSLER BE PARTIALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR LACK OF CONSIDERATION FOR THE HUMAN LIFE AND THE WELL BEING OF ITS CUSTOMERS. WHILE DRIVING THE CAR THE ENGINE MOUNTS BREAK AWAY FROM THE ENGINE, CAUSING A ROUGH VIBRATION ON THE FLOOR PAN OF THE VEHICLE. THIS PROBLEM STARTED HAPPENING ON 10/31/05, 11/04/05, 10/26/06 TO PRESENT, I HAVE TO CONSTANTLY REPLACE THE ENGINE MOUNTS ON THIS VEHICLE AND I BELIEVE THE BREAKING OF THE MOUNTS AFFECTS THE SUSPENSION OF THE VEHICLE. THE BREAKING OF THE AXLE AND TIE RODS FROM THE PRESSURE OF THE ENGINE JERKING WITH THE MOUNTS BREAK. I'VE BOUGHT ENGINE MOUNTS WITH LIFETIME WARRANTIES BEING I HAVE TO REPLACE THESE MOUNTS SO OFTEN.

MY VEHICLE STARTED MAKING A CLUNK NOISE FROM THE ENGINE AREA AND STOPPED SHIFTING OUT OF SECOND GEAR. I TOOK VEHICLE IN TO A REPAIR SHOP FOR TRANSMISSION SERVICE AND WAS TOLD BY THE REPAIR SHOP THAT THE VEHICLE IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE BECAUSE THE ENGINE CRADLE HAS CORROSION AND HAS RUSTED TO THE POINT THAT THE ENGINE IS ABOUT TO FALL OUT THE VEHICLE WHICH MOST LIKELY CAUSED THE TRANSMISSION TO FAIL. THIS WAS DISCOVERED WHILE MY VEHICLE WAS BEING LIFTED ON THE HOIST. THE REPAIR SHOP SAID THEY ARE AFRAID TO KEEP THE VEHICLE ON THE HOIST BECAUSE SOMEONE COULD GET INJURED WHILE UNDERNEATH IT.

WE NOTICED IT LAST YEAR AFTER SEEING A NEWS REPORT ON THE ISSUE BUT IT WASN'T THIS BAD THEN, NOW WE WON'T DRIVE IT.

CHRYSLER ACCEPTS NO RESPONSIBILITY. OF COURSE THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE AND I'M GLAD THERE'S A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT ON THIS! IT HAS 120,000 MILES AND TO THINK THE ENGINE COULD DROP OUT WHILE SHE'S DRIVING KIDS AROUND. THAT COULD KILL EVERYONE INCLUDING OTHER DRIVERS AROUND HER. THIS WILL BE MY LAST CHRYSLER/DODGE/JEEP VEHICLE AND MY KIDS WILL NEVER OWN ONE. IT'S NOT MY FIRST, AND I'VE HAD MAJOR ISSUES WITH EVERY SINGLE ONE. SUB-FRAME BROKE ON ME. IT IS THE EXACT PART THAT WAS RECALLED FOR THE 2004 PACIFICA. HOWEVER THERE IS NO RECALL FOR 2005? THE SUB FRAME BROKE WHILE I WAS DRIVING, WITH A CHILDREN IN CAR SEATS IN THE VEHICLE. THIS IS A REAL SAFETY CONCERN, ESPECIALLY IN THE "SALT BELT" CHRYSLER'S SELF ADMITTED INSUFFICIENT PROTECTIVE COATING ON THE SUB FRAME OF THESE CARS, SHOULD BE ENOUGH PROOF, TO RAISE EYEBROWS AND REMEDY THIS SAFETY ISSUE. I CANNOT AFFORD TO REPAIR ALL THE DAMAGE THIS CAUSED, AND PACIFICA'S CANNOT HOLD A RESELL VALUE, AS SELLING THIS TO ANOTHER PERSON, IS JUST LIKE HANDING THEM A TICKING TIME BOMB. WHY IS THERE NO SOLUTION OR HELP ON THIS ISSUE? I AM NOT ALONE WITH THESE ISSUES. I SUPPOSE IT WILL TAKE DEATHS FROM THIS FAULTY PART BEFORE ANY REAL ACTION IS ACTUALLY TAKEN. HAVING A STRONG PIECE OF METAL TO KEEP MY MOTOR FROM FALLING ON THE GROUND ISN'T TO MUCH TO ASK, OR IS IT? THE ONLY OPTION I HAVE TO KEEP MY PRIMARY VEHICLE ON THE ROAD, IS TO TRY WELDING THE SUB FRAME AND HOPE FOR THE BEST.

OUR VEHICLE HAS 88,000 MILES AND IT JUST FAILED A SAFETY INSPECTION BECAUSE THE ENGINE CRADLE IS ROTTING/RUSTED AND THE ENGINE IS IN JEOPARDY OF FALLING OUT OF THE CAR. THE DEALER (GOOD BROTHERS DODGE) ACKNOWLEDGES THE SAFETY CONCERN AND THAT CHRYSLER HAS HAD PROBLEMS WITH THESE. THEY SUPPLIED A $3,200 ESTIMATE TO REPAIR. ACCORDING TO THE DEALER, THE ENGINE COULD FALL OUT WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND THE VEHICLE SHOULDN'T BE DRIVEN. THERE APPEARS TO BE A PENDING CLASS-ACTION LAWSUIT REGARDING THIS VERY ISSUE AND CHRYSLER UNWILLINGNESS TO ACKNOWLEDGE AND TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE DEFECT AND SAFETY HAZARD.

THE SAME WAS CONFIRMED ON 3/18/17 AT FIRESTONE SERVICE CENTER, BENSALEM, PA. IT'S REPAIR WILL COST A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT AND IT IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE AS THE THE ENGINE MAY FALL OUT. IT IS A VERY HIGH SAFETY RISK.

WHEN I TOOK OUR 2005 PACIFICA IN FOR ITS ANNUAL VA STATE INSPECTION ON NOVEMBER 1, 2016 IT DID NOT PASS. THE PRIMARY CAUSE FOR FAILURE WAS THE DISCOVERY OF SUBSTANTIAL RUSTING OF THE "SUB K FRAME." IT WAS RUSTED THROUGH ON THE RIGHT-HAND SIDE OF THE FRAME. I WAS ADVISED THAT IT WAS TOO DANGEROUS TO DRIVE THE CAR AS THE ENGINE COULD FALL AND DROP OUT OF ITS CRADLE! THE RUSTING WAS NOT VISIBLE 6 MONTHS AGO WHEN THE CAR WAS LAST HOISTED IN THE AIR FOR AN OIL CHANGE, SO I CAN ONLY ASSUME THAT IT RUSTED FROM THE INSIDE OUT. THE MECHANICS STATED THEY HAD NEVER SEEN SUCH RUSTING, AND THEY WERE SURPRISED TO SEE IT ON A CAR THAT WAS OTHERWISE WELL MAINTAINED AND IN SUCH GOOD CONDITION FOR A CAR WITH ALMOST 175,000 MILES. I LIVE IN THE NORTHERN NECK AREA OF VA WHICH IS NOT AN AREA OF SIGNIFICANT SNOWFALL OR AN AREA WHERE THERE IS A HEAVY APPLICATION OF SALT ON THE ROADS DURING THE WINTER. I HAVE 2 OTHER CARS - A 2003 DODGE RAM 1500 4X4 CREW CAB AND A 2002 TOYOTA CAMRY, NEITHER OF WHICH DEMONSTRATE ANY SIGNS OF RUSTING OF THE FRAME.

TAKATA RECALL I RECENTLY TOOK A LOAN OUT AND PURCHASED A 2005 CHRYSLER PACIFICA FROM A DEALER NEARBY. WHEN MY MECHANIC LOOKED AT IT HE COULD NOT UNDERSTAND HOW THE DEALERSHIP PASSED THE SAFETY INSPECTION A MONTH AGO. HE SAID THE RUST WAS SPREAD ALL ACROSS FRONT ENGINE CRADLE OR THE VEHICLE. HE DID NOT THINK I SHOULD BE DRIVING THE VEHICLE BECAUSE THE ENGINE COULD DROP OUT DUE TO THE RUST. LOOKING UP ANY SAFETY RECALLS AND NOTICED THERE WERE NONE. ONLY A SERVICE BULLETIN THAT STATES CHRYSLER WILL ONLY FIX THE PROBLEM IF YOU ARE LOCATED WITHIN THE SALT STATES AND THE VEHICLE IS WITHIN THE 10 YEAR OR 150,000 MILES. I AM 6 MONTHS PAST THE 10 YEAR WITH ONLY 105,000 AND LOCATED IN A SALT STATE. I PURCHASED MY VEHICLE JUST OVER 30 DAYS AGO SO THE DEALERSHIP WILL NOT DO ANYTHING. I RECENTLY CHANGED MY OWN OIL ON THIS VEHICLE. WHEN I WAS UNDERNEATH OF IT I OBSERVED 1 MEDIUM SIZED RUST HOLE THRU THE SUBFRAME AND 2 SMALLER RUST HOLES IN THE SUBFRAME. THIS IS AN ISSUE WITH THESE VEHICLES AFTER I FURTHER LOOKED INTO THE ISSUE THAT OTHERS WERE HAVING WITH THIS VEHICLE. I HAVE PICTURES OF THIS ISSUE. THIS IS KNOWN AS CRADLE ROT. THE LOWER MOTOR MOUNT OF THE ENGINE IS BOLTED INTO THIS SUBFRAME. AND IF CONTINUES TO GET WORSE THE ENGINE CAN FALL OUT OF THE VEHICLE. NOT ONLY I HAVE 3 HOLES IN IT THERE IS A LOT OF RUST ON THIS SUBFRAME THAT LOOKS COULD BE MORE OF AN ISSUE IN THE YEARS TO COME. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND THRU ALL THE YEARS OF BEING UNDER VEHICLES THIS IS BY FAR ONE OF THE WORSE I HAVE EVER SEEN. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE NOW DRIVING THIS CAR. ESPECIALLY WITH MY FAMILY IN IT. APPARENTLY, CHRYSLER PROVIDED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR A VERY SMALL NUMBER OF CARS EFFECTED BY THIS SAFETY HAZARD. CHRYSLER IS NOT TAKING THIS DEFECT SERIOUSLY; SHOULD PROVIDE CORRECTIVE ACTION BEFORE FATALITIES OCCUR.

EVIDENTLY THE SAME FAULTY MATERIAL WAS USED. I AM BEYOND UPSET HOW CHRYSLER IS ALOUD TO MANUFACTURE A VEHICLE THAT IS DANGEROUS, AND COULD HAVE KILLED ME OR MY FAMILY. SO I BROUGHT IT T THE DEALER AND THEY SAID MY CAR WASN'T COVERED EVEN THOUGH THE LETTER I WAS GIVEN A COPY OF DIDN'T SPECIFY ANYTHING BUT THE 2004/2005 MODEL YEAR. SO I CALLED CHRYSLER CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY SAID THAT MY VEHICLE WASN'T IN THE DATES LISTED TO BE FIXED YET I HAVE THE PROBLEM THEY ALL ARE COMPLAINING ABOUT. SO I WAS ABLE TO GET A MANAGER TO LOOK AT THE ISSUE AND THEY NEVER CALLED BACK. SO I CALLED THEM BACK LAST WEEK BECAUSE WE ARE AT THE DEADLINE OF THE OF THE RECALL AND THE ARE REFUSING THE CLAIM. I CALLED CHRYSLER AND WAS TOLD MY CARD IS OUT OF THE CUT OFF WINDOW FOR X26 RECALL. HOWEVER IT IS THE SAME PROBLEM AS STATED IN THE RECALL LETTER, AND CHRYSLER IS NOT WILLING TO COMPENSATE ANY THING. 82,000 MILE ON MY CAR.

UPON INSPECTION BY MY MECHANIC IT BECAME CLEAR THAT THE "ENGINE CRADLE" OR SUBFRAME WAS COMPLETELY ROTTED THROUGH WITH VISIBLE CORROSION. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION, I DISCOVERED THAT THIS "ENGINE CRADLE" CORROSION PROBLEM HAS BEEN ACKNOWLEDGED BY CHRYSLER AND AN EXTENDED WARRANTY WAS ISSUED TO REPAIR THIS PART FOR 2004 AND 2005 PACIFICA'S. EXTENDED WARRANTY LETTER ID IS: 0004617/#45543/X26...HOWEVER, WHEN I CONTACTED CHRYSLER, I WAS INFORMED THAT BASED ON THE VIN # OF MY CAR, I DID NOT QUALIFY FOR CHRYSLERS EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR THIS ISSUE, THE LETTER CHRYSLER ISSUED FOR THIS EXTENDED WARRANTY CLEARLY STATES THAT IT COVERS 2004-2005 CHRYSLER PACIFICA'S, AND EVEN THOUGH I FALL WITHIN THE MODEL YEAR, GEOGRAPHICAL REGION, AND THE 10YR/150,000MILE GUIDELINES OF EXTENDED WARRANTY, CHRYSLER CLAIMS THAT MY 2005 WAS NOT MANUFACTURED WITHIN SOME NARROW MANUFACTURING WINDOW TO QUALIFY FOR THIS EXTENDED WARRANTY.

IN ''14, IT WAS NOTICED THAT THE SUBFRAME WAS RUSTED. I DID NOT INSPECT IT ANY FURTHER BECAUSE I TRUSTED THAT IT WAS A NORMAL AMOUNT OF RUST. HOWEVER, ON 4/27/15, THE CAR BEGAN TO HAVE ISSUES. UPON ACCELERATION FROM A STOP OR SLOW-ROLL, THERE IS A VIBRATION THAT CAN BE FELT THROUGHOUT THE FLOORBOARDS & THE GAS PEDAL. WHEN THE CAR SHIFTS FROM 1ST TO 2ND GEAR & THE RPM'S DROP, THE CAR MAKES A "THUD" OR "CLUNK" SOUND FROM THE ENGINE AREA OF THE CAR. THIS "THUD" CAN BE FELT IN THE CABIN OF THE CAR. THE VIBRATIONS & THE NOISE HAS GROWN WORSE OVER THE COURSE OF 3 DAYS. I HAD THE CAR INSPECTED DURING AN OIL CHANGE AT A CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP ON 4/30/15, & I WAS ADVISED THAT, DUE TO THE AMOUNT OF RUST TO THE SUBFRAME & ENGINE CRADLE, THE CAR'S STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY HAS BEEN BREACHED. THE MECHANIC TOOK A PICTURE & HAD THE SERVICE MANAGER BRING IT TO ME IN THE WAITING ROOM & ADVISE ME THAT IF I HIT A LARGE ENOUGH BUMP, THE SUBFRAME MAY BREAK APART & THE ENGINE MAY DROP OUT OF THE CAR. I CONTACTED CHRYSLER & THEY OFFER NO REMEDY. UPON RESEARCH OF THE ISSUE, I HAVE FOUND THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AMONG ''04 & ''05 CHRYSLER PACIFICAS & THAT THE MANUFACTURER HAD ISSUED A RECALL ON THE CAR FOR THIS PROBLEM IN ''10, BUT RESCINDED THE RECALL & CREATED A TSB IT, YET UPHELD THE RECALL FOR PACIFICAS THAT WERE MANUFACTURED BETWEEN 2/23/04 & 3/31/04. DUE TO THE INITIAL RECALL, TSB, & THE PARTIAL RECALL FROM THE CHRYSLER PACIFICAS MANUFACTURED IN '04, CHRYSLER HAS ADMITTED FAULT IN NOT PROPERLY COATING THE SUBFRAME MATERIALS TO PREVENT RUST FROM OCCURRING. CHRYSLER IS NOT WILLING TO TAKE CORRECTIVE ACTION FOR THEIR DANGEROUS & FAULTY CRAFTSMANSHIP OF THEIR CARS. THIS DEFECT SEEMS TO BE WELL DOCUMENTED ON NUMEROUS WEB SITES AND FIAT CHRYSLER GROUP IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND MAKES LIKE THE PROBLEM IS WITH ONLY A VERY LIMITED NUMBER OF VEHICLES WHICH IS CLEARLY NOT THE CASE. IT WILL NOT BE READY TO DRIVE TILL APRIL 6 AS THE DEALER REQUIRES THE PARTS MONEY UP FRONT BEFORE THEY WILL EVEN ORDER THE PART SO WE HAVE TO SAVE THE MONEY FOR THIS. SO WE HAVE NO CAR FOR THE NEXT 10 DAYS AT LEAST. WE HAVE RESEARCHED AND UNDERSTAND THAT CHRYSLER KNOWS OF THIS PROBLEM AND DID A LIMITED AMOUNT OF REPAIRS AS IT WAS THEIR FAULT BUT APPARENTLY THEY ARE NOT HELPING THE MAJORITY OF CAR OWNERS WHO HAVE THIS PROBLEM. TOOK OUR 2005 CHRYSLER PACIFICA IN FOR OIL CHANGE AND THEY INFORMED US THAT THE ENGINE CRADLE IS ROTTING OUT AND THAT OUR ENGINE COULD FALL OUT AND THAT WOULD RESULT IN A BAD ACCIDENT. WE CALLED CHRYSLER AND THEY WOULD DO NOTHING!!! WE FOUND OUT THAT MANY OTHER PEOPLE WHO OWN THIS SAME CAR HAD THE SAME PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET BECAUSE THE CHRYSLER MANUFACTURER OF THIS CAR DID NOT COAT THE FRAME CORRECTLY WHEN IT WAS BUILT. BROUGHT MY VEHICLE IN TO MY TRUSTED LOCAL REPAIR SHOP FOR A REVIEW AND TUNE UP AND REQUEST TO REVIEW ROTORS DUE TO VEHICLE SHAKE. WHEN ON THE LIFT, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE ENTIRE ENGINE CRADLE WAS RUSTED TO A POINT WHERE IT WAS BARELY ATTACHED TO THE VEHICLE. INITIAL TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETINS PUBLISHED (12-001-10 IN OCT 2010) STATE THAT THIS CONDITION COULD AFFECT ALL 2004 - 05 PACIFICAS. IT WAS LATER SUPERCEDED BY THE CURRENT BULLETIN 13-001-12 DATED MARCH 16, 2012 WHICH LIMITS AFFECTED POPULATION TO AN ~6 WEEK RANGE OF VINS, WHICH MY CAR DOES NOT FALL UNDER AND I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT I AM OUT OF WARRANTY. I RECENTLY PURCHASED THIS 2005 CHRYSLER PACIFICA FROM A CAR DEALER. I GOT IT FOR A GOOD PRICE AND WAS TOLD IT NEEDED A LITTLE WORK. MY WIFE WANTED A CHRYSLER PACIFICA FROM THE FIRST TIME SHE SAW ONE. SO, FINALLY FINDING ONE WITHIN OUR MEANS WAS AWESOME; SO WE THOUGHT. IT WAS MAKING A WINDING NOISE AT TIME OF PURCHASE, WHICH WAS THOUGHT TO BE A POWER STEERING PUMP. WE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE SHOP AFTER PURCHASING IT AND HAD THE PUMP AND SOME OTHER BRAKE WORK; AS-WELL-AS, TIE-ROD ENDS FIXED/REPLACED. THIS DID NOT STOP THE WINDING NOISE WE THOUGHT WAS COMING FROM THE POWER STEERING PUMP, SO WE HAD THE SHOP TAKE ANOTHER LOOK AT IT. THE SHOP DISCOVERED THAT THE RACK-AND-PINION WAS LEAKING AND LIKELY THE CAUSE FOR THE NOISE. HOWEVER, WHEN THEY ATTEMPTED TO REMOVE THE RACK AND PINION FROM THE VEHICLE; THEY REALIZED IT WOULD NOT BE POSSIBLE BECAUSE THE CRADLE/SUB-FRAME WAS SO RUSTED THAT REMOVAL WAS NOT POSSIBLE. SO NEEDLESS TO SAY; THE SHOP OWNER RECOMMENDED THAT WE DETERMINE IF THERE WAS A RE-CALL. THE SHOP OWNER SAID THAT HE HAD NEVER SEEN THIS AMOUNT OF RUST ON THE SUB-FRAME OF ANY VEHICLE, ESPECIALLY ON A 2005 MODEL. I HOPED THAT THE SHOP OWNER WAS OVER EXAGGERATING SO I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO ANOTHER LOCAL SHOP AND HE TO, WAS STUNNED BY THE AMOUNT OF RUST. THIS SHOP OWNER TOLD ME TO NOT DRIVE THE VEHICLE AND TO CONTACT THE CHRYSLER CORP. AND DEMAND THAT SOMETHING BE DONE ABOUT THIS. HE (THE SHOP OWNER) WAS ABSOLUTELY BESIDE HIMSELF AFTER SEEING THE VEHICLE. I LOVE CHRYSLER PRODUCTS AND EVEN OWN A CARAVAN, WHICH MY WIFE DRIVES DAILY. MY PACIFICA WAS PRODUCED SEPTEMBER 30, 2004 WHICH IS OUTSIDE OF THE ASSEMBLY DATES ESTABLISHED BY CHRYSLER FOR EXTENDED WARRANTY COVERAGE. I CALLED CHRYSLER BEFORE I PURCHASED THE CAR TO SEE IF THEIR WERE ANY RECALLS ON IT, AND WAS TOLD THEIR WAS NOT. THE CAR IS OTHERWISE IN PERFECT CONDITION, NO DAMAGE AND VERY LITTLE WEAR INSIDE AND OUT. A LETTER WAS SENT TO SOME 2004-2005 CHRYSLER PACIFICA OWNERS THAT THE FRONT ENGINE CRADLE AND SUSPENSION MOUNT FRAME WAS PRONE TO CORROSION PROBLEMS. THE WARRANTY WAS EXTENDED TO 15 YEARS OR 150,000 MILES TO OWNERS IN STATES THAT USE ROAD SALT, COLD WEATHER STATES. WE LIVE IN PENNSYLVANIA, WHICH IS CONSIDERED A COLD WEATHER STATE. OUR PACIFICA WAS INSPECTED IN APRIL 2014. WE INFORMED THE STATION THAT WE WERE EXPERIENCING SOME VIBRATION IN THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE. WE WERE INFORMED THAT THE CRADLE ASSEMBLY AND MOUNT WAS RUSTED THROUGH AND BECAUSE OF SAFETY ISSUES THEY HAD TO BE REPLACED BEFORE IT WOULD PASS INSPECTION. THE COST WAS $2,702.08. THE VEHICLE HAD 122,638 MILES, UNDER THE WARRANTY THRESHOLD OF 150,000. WHEN WE LEARNED OF THIS SITUATION WE CALLED CHRYSLER. THEY INFORMED ME THAT ONLY PACIFICA'S MANUFACTURED BETWEEN A CERTAIN TIME FRAME WERE COVERED. THEY COULD NOT TELL ME THE TIME FRAME, BUT OUR VEHICLE WAS NOT COVERED. TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE, THE NEW CRADLE ASSEMBLY IS EXACTLY THE SAME AS THE ORIGINAL PART. NO CORRECTIVE ACTIONS HAVE BEEN TAKEN TO PREVENT THE RUSTING. THERE ARE OTHER CASES SIMILAR TO MINE ON THE INTERNET. STATE DMV?S ARE FAILING THESE VEHICLES FOR SAFETY ISSUES, THEY ARE UNSAFE TO DRIVE. HOW CAN CHRYSLER IGNORE THESE SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUES? AFTER DOING A LITTLE RESEARCH, I CONTACTED CHRYSLER ONLY TO FIND OUT THAT THEY WOULD NOT COVER THIS DEFECT SINCE MY VEHICLE WAS MANUFACTURED IN MAY 2004 AND THEY ONLY COVER IT FOR 10 YRS/150K MILES FOR VEHICLES MANUFACTURED UP THROUGH MARCH 2004 (IF IN THE "SALT BELT"). SO WHILE THEY ACKNOWLEDGE THIS SPECIFIC PROBLEM, THEY WOULD NOT APPLY THE WARRANTY BECAUSE MY MANUFACTURE DATE IS TWO MONTHS BEYOND THEIR CUTOFF DATE. TALKING TO AUTO MECHANICS AND SEARCHING ONLINE SEEMS TO REVEAL THAT THIS IS A SIGNIFICANT PROBLEM WITH OLDER PACIFICAS. BASED ON THIS INFORMATION, I STRONGLY BELIEVE THAT CHRYSLER SHOULD COVER A DEFECT LIKE THIS SINCE IT IS LIKELY WIDESPREAD (IF NOT ISSUE AN ACTUAL RECALL LIKE TOYOTA DID ON THEIR TACOMAS FOR RUSTED FRAMES A FEW YEARS AGO). OWN A 2005CHRYSLER PACIFICA LIMITED FULLY LOADED WHICHWAS PURCHASED NEW. THE CAR WAS BUILT IN AUGUST 2004. I TOOK IT IN FOR INSPECTION IN DECEMBER 2013 AND IT WAS DISCOVERED THE ENGINE CRADLE SUPPORTING THE ENGINE WAS BADLY CORRODED AND WOULD NEED REPLACED TO PASS INSPECTION AND IS A SAFETY ISSUE. STARTED WHEN BACKING AND TURNING WHEEL TO LEFT A CLUNK OCCURRED AND LEFT WHEEL FELT 'STUCK'. THOUGHT IT MAY HAVE HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE EXTREMELY FRIGID TEMPERATURES OF THE SEASON. A SHORT TIME LATER I FELT CLUNKING UNDER MY FEET WHEN DRIVING OVER DIPS OR BUMPS AT ANY SPEED. I DID BRING MY CAR IN TO A DIFFERENT CHAIN REPAIR SHOP FOR A DETERMINATION OF THE CLUNKING PROBLEM AND WAS SHOWN WHEN PUTTING THE TRANSMISSION INTO REVERSE THE ENGINE FELL WAY DOWN THEN WAS SHOWN THE VERY RUSTED OUT ENGINE CRADLE AND GIVEN AN ESTIMATE OF $1800.00 FOR REPAIR WITH A USED CRADLE. I THEN TOOK THE CAR TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP TO VERIFY THE NEED OF THE CRADLE..THE CHARGES TO BE SLIGHTLY LESS. I CALLED CHRYSLER AND WAS TOLD THE CAR HAD TO BE TAKEN TO A CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP REPAIR SHOP FOR AN ESTIMATE BUT THAT IT WAS ALREADY KNOWN THAT THERE WOULD BE VERY LITTLE TO NO BENEFIT. HOWEVER IF THERE WAS ANY MONETARY BENEFIT IT WOULD NOT BEGIN TO COVER ANY OF THE REPAIR COST. BY THE WAY, THE RIGHT REAR QUARTER PANEL AND LIFT DOOR ARE RUSTED ALSO. HOWEVER THERE IS ONLY A ONE MONTH PERIOD (IN-SERVICE DATE) THAT APPLIES TO THE WARRANTY. YOU CAN PUT YOUR FIST THROUGH THE ENGINE CRADLE. ENGINE VIBRATES AND WE ARE CONCERNED THAT IT WILL FALL OUT OF THE CAR AND KILL SOMEONE. WE WONT LET OUR KIDS DRIVE IT ANYMORE AND CANT AFFORD TO REPLACE IT. WHILE OPERATING MY 2005 CHRYSLER PACIFICA LIMITED EDITION I HEARD A LOUD CLUNKING, POPPING, SOUND COMING FROM MY FRONT END, WHICH WAS EXACERBATED WHEN I TURNED EITHER LEFT, OR RIGHT. ALSO, I HAVE A CONSTANT SHAKING WHICH I FEEL THROUGH MY STEERING WHEEL, WHICH BECOMES MORE PRONOUNCED WHILE I AM BRAKING. ANYTIME I DRIVE OVER ANY TYPE OF BUMP, POTHOLE, OR EVEN JUST AN UNEVEN ROAD SURFACE IT CLUNKS. IT SOMETIMES MAKES A CLUNKING SOUND EVEN WHEN I AM OPERATING ON AN EVEN ROAD SURFACE. AS I START PULLING AWAY FROM A STOPPED POSITION, I OFTEN FEEL, AND HEAR A JERKING & LUGGING, WHICH SOUNDS LIKE THE ENGINE IS MOVING AROUND INSIDE THE SUB FRAME (ENGINE MOUNTS). I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO INFORMED ME THAT THE SUB FRAME WAS SO ROTTED, THAT THE CONTROL ARM HAS PULLED OFF OF THE SUB FRAME. HE ALSO STATED THAT THE PART OF THE SUB FRAME THAT HOLDS THE ENGINE IN PLACE, IS SO ROTTED THAT THE ENGINE COULD ACTUALLY BREAK FREE FROM THE VEHICLE, AND COULD RESULT IN A SERIOUS CRASH. HE SHOWED ME SEVERAL HOLES, WHERE THE SUB FRAME HAS ACTUALLY ROTTED COMPLETELY THROUGH, AND I AM ABLE TO SEE OUT THE OTHER SIDE OF THE METAL. HE SAID THAT IT WOULD COST ME THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TO REPLACE THE ROTTED PARTS. I AM A STAGE 4 TERMINAL CANCER PATIENT, AND NEED MY VEHICLE TO TRAVEL BACK & FORTH, 60+ MILES, FOR THE TREATMENTS NECESSARY TO KEEP ME ALIVE. INSPECTION STATION CONSULTED NY DMV AND IT WAS DETERMINED AND REPORTED TO ME THAT VEHICLE IS UNSAFE, AND THAT REPLACEMENT OF CRADLE WOULD BE REQUIRED TO RETURN VEHICLE TO SERVICE AND TO PASS NEW YORK STATE INSPECTION. IT WAS EXPLAINED TO ME THAT A MINOR IMPACT -- SUCH AS ENCOUNTERING A POTHOLE AT SPEED, OR HITTING AN OBJECT WITH THE FRAME OR BODY OF THE VEHICLE -- COULD CAUSE COLLAPSE OF THE FRONT END STRUCTURE OF THE VEHICLE, LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL, LOSS OF THE ENGINE FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT, COLLAPSE OF THE SUSPENSION SYSTEM, AND POTENTIAL RESULTANT FIRE, EXPLOSION, AND INJURY OR LOSS OF LIFE TO OCCUPANTS OF VEHICLE OR OTHERS IN THE VICINITY. *TR THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE LEFT HIS WIFE STRANDED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE WE PURCHASED IT, EXAMINED AND SUBMITTED A REQUEST TO CHRYSLER FOR COVERAGE, WHICH WAS DENIED. WE WERE TOLD THAT OUR VEHICLE WAS NOT COVERED BECAUSE WE DID NOT LIVE IN ONE OF THESE DEFINED "SALT STATE ZONES". DESPITE OFFERING TO PROVIDE EVIDENCE FROM KYDOT AND LOCAL COUNTY TRANSPORTATION OFFICES VERIFYING THAT OUR AREA DOES IN FACT EXPERIENCE A HIGH VOLUME OF ROADWAY SALT USE, CHRYSLER CONTINUES TO DENY EXTENDING ANY COVERAGE FOR THE AFFECTED VEHICLE. I HAVE A 2005 CHRYSLER PACIFICA AND I WAS EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS WITH A "CLICKING NOISE" COMING FROM UNDERNEATH THE FRONT END OF MY CAR. UPON INSPECTION BY MY MECHANIC IT BECAME EVIDENT THAT THE "ENGINE CRADLE" WHICH HOLDS UP ENGINE WAS COMPLETELY ROTTED THROUGH WITH ABOUT 80% OF VISIBLE CORROSION (I REALLY WISH I COULD ACTUAL ATTACH PICTURES OF CORROSION PROVIDED TO ME BY MY MECHANIC). UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION, I DISCOVERED THAT THIS "ENGINE CRADLE" CORROSION PROBLEM HAS BEEN ACKNOWLEDGED BY CHRYSLER AND AN EXTENDED WARRANTY WAS ISSUED TO REPAIR THIS PART FOR 04 AND 05 PACIFICA'S. EXTENDED WARRANTY LETTER ID IS: 0004617/#45543/X26...HOWEVER, WHEN I CONTACTED CHRYSLER, I WAS INFORMED THAT BASED ON THE VIN # OF MY CAR, I DID NOT QUALIFY FOR CHRYSLERS EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR THIS ISSUE (10 YRS OR 150,000 MILES) - THE LETTER CHRYSLER ISSUED FOR THIS EXTENDED WARRANTY CLEARLY STATES THAT IT COVERS 2004-2005 CHRYSLER PACIFICA'S, AND EVEN THOUGH I FALL WITHIN THE MODEL YEAR, GEOGRAPHICAL REGION, AND THE 10YR/150,000MILE GUIDELINES OF EXTENDED WARRANTY, CHRYSLER CLAIMS THAT MY 2005 WAS NOT MANUFACTURED WITHIN SOME NARROW MANUFACTURING WINDOW TO QUALIFY FOR THIS EXTENDED WARRANTY. 2005 CHRYSLER PACIFICA. CONSUMER STATES DEFECTIVE AIRBAG *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED THE AIR BAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED IN SEPTEMBER 2009. I OWN A 2005 CHRYSLER PACIFICA THAT WAS BOUGHT BRAND NEW IN OCTOBER 2004. IN OCTOBER 2009, I WAS DRIVING HOME DURING AFTERNOON RUSH HOUR. I NOTICED MY CAR SMOKING AND ATTEMPTED JUST TO MAKE IT HOME. ABOUT 20 MINUTES LATER, MY CAR BEGAN TO HESITATE AND TURNED OFF ONCE OR TWICE WHEN I STOPPED AT STOP LIGHTS. EVENTUALLY, THE CAR SHUT DOWN COMPLETELY ON A MAJOR THOROUGHFARE AND WOULD NOT RESTART. AFTER BEING TOWED TO THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP, I DISCOVERED THAT THE RADIATOR HOSE HAD BEEN BLOWN OFF AND A HOLE BASICALLY RIPPED IN THE COOLANT JUG AS A RESULT. REPAIR COST: $564.00. PRIOR TO RELEASING THE VEHICLE, THE SERVICE TECHNICIANS NOTICED HOW LOUDLY AND ROUGHLY THE CAR WAS RUNNING AND DID FURTHER TESTS, TO DISCOVER THAT THE MOTOR MOUNTS ARE BROKEN AND IN NEED OF REPAIR, WHICH CAUSED THE PROBLEM THAT I PAID NEARLY $600 TO FIX. I PURCHASED A 2005 PACIFICA TOURING WITH AWD IN THE SUMMER OF 2006. THREE TIMES MY CAR HAS HAD DIFFICULTIES WHEN THERE WAS A DUSTING OF SNOW BLOWING OVER THE ROAD. THE 1ST INCIDENT WAS ON JAN. 24 2007, THE FRONT END OF MY VEHICLE STARTED TO LOSE CONTROL AND FINALLY I WENT INTO A SPIN. I WAS IN THE LEFT LANE OF A 2 LANE ROAD HEADING SOUTH. MY CAR SPUN IN FRONT OF THE VEHICLE IN THE RIGHT LANE, THROUGH THE DITCH, AND FINALLY ENDED UP IN THE TREES ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE DITCH. I SUFFERED ONLY MINOR INJURIES-NECK SPRAIN, BUT I TOOK OUT A HIGHWAY SIGN AND A TREE. DAMAGES TO MY CAR TOTALED OVER $11,000, I GOT IT BACK FROM THE BODY SHOP 1 MONTH AFTER THE ACCIDENT. MY PROBLEMS BEGAN ON 10/03/05 @ 2,826 MILES. SINCE THAT TIME THERE HAVE BEEN A LITANY OF PROBLEMS THROUGH EIGHTEEN MONTHS. WHEEL SENSORS -6 WERE REPLACED. FRONT END NOISE LIKE A RUBBING SOUND. RETURNED TO DEALER SEVERAL TIMES. ACCELERATOR STICKING. RETURNED TO DEALER SEVERAL TIMES EACH TIME THEY LUBRICATED THE LINKAGE BUT AFTER TWO WEEKS THE PROBLEM CONTINUED. AT THIS POINT NOTHING ELSE WAS DONE CONCERNING THE ACCELERATOR. NEXT, PROBLEM A DEFECTIVE AXLE, REPLACED. POWER MODULE REPLACED. DOORS WOULD NOT LOCK AND CAR WOULD NOT START AFTER INSTALLATION OF THE POWER MODULE. THE CAR HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALER. IT WAS REPAIRED. PARKING BRAKE ASSEMBLY FELL APART IN THE REAR BRAKES AS I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY. PARKING BRAKE ASSEMBLY REPLACED BY THE DEALER. FRONT END VIBRATION AGAIN BROUGHT TO DEALERS ATTENTION. ANOTHER WHEEL SENSOR REPLACED. ON 5/24/07 BROUGHT MY PACIFICA BACK TO THE DEALER CONCERNING THE FRONT END NOISE. THEY REPLACED THE POWER STEERING PUMP ON 5/30/07. ON 6/04/07 RETURNED TO THE DEALER NOISE IN FRONT END STILL THERE. ALSO, THE ACCELERATOR STILL STICKS. CONCERNING THE FRONT END NOISE, THEY SAID THAT A POWER STEERING LINE WAS LEAKING AND THEY REPAIRED IT. THE ACCELERATOR BUTTERFLY WAS FINALLY REPLACED AFTER OVER A YEAR OF COMPLAINTS. ON 6/08/07 I RETURNED THE CAR BECAUSE OF THE SAME NOISE IN THE FRONT END EVERY TIME YOU TURN LEFT OR RIGHT. AT THIS POINT THEY DECIDED TO REPLACE THE STEERING RACK. I PICKED UP THE CAR ON 6/14/07 THE VIBRATION RUBBING NOISE WAS STILL THERE. I RETURNED TO THE DEALER ON 6/15/07. THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN MAINTAINED HIGHER THAN THE STANDARDS CALL FOR IN THE MANUAL. LOOKS LIKE CHRYSLER IS GOOD FOR ABOUT 40,000 MILES, THEN BE PREPARED TO SPEND SOME MONEY. I PLAN TO TRADE THE VEHICLE FOR A TOYOTA, THOUGH I HAD SUPPORTED AMERICAN MADE VEHICLES IN THE PAST, WITH A PRODUCT LIKE THIS, YOU CAN'T AFFORD TO. THE TOTAL COST THUS FAR HAS BEEN $600.00. IT APPEARS THAT CHRSYLER KNOWS THE PROBLEM EXISTS BECAUSE OF THE BULLETINS, YET THEY WILL NOT RECALL THE CAR ,AND DO WHAT IS RIGHT FOR THE CONSUMERS.
