A few weeks ago we took our car to a mechanic to have the brakes worked on as a part of routine maintenance. When we picked it up, he noted that when he had it up on the lift, he saw that the engine cradle was very badly rusted. He said that we shouldn't drive it anymore because of the risks involved. I tried to crawl under the car when we got home (there isn't a ton of clearance) but I saw what he was talking about. At that point we looked online and found hundreds and hundreds of similar experiences and complaints. We were left dumbfounded at the risks this introduces...thinking about what would happen if this mechanic hadn't noticed the issue and we'd been driving down the interstate with our kids when the thing decided to give way. And the fact that the manufacturer knows of this issue and has done nothing is beyond disgusting. Fortunately we found out from the mechanic, not from the engine falling out. Even still, this means that we're left with a worthless car. While our car is abandoned in the driveway hoping for Chrysler to right their wrong, we still see lots of similar vehicles on the road. I'm guessing that their owners don't know that they're driving death traps either. We had a 2008 Tacoma with similar frame rust issues and Toyota recalled it almost a decade after it was manufactured, and replaced the entire frame. Chrysler should have to do the same to repair their shoddy and negligent design, or at least compensate us for the complete loss of value so that we can have some money to put towards its replacement. I also think that this issue needs to be publicly noted for all similar model years. We'd purchased this from a Chrysler dealership, and had checked the Carfax and Consumer Reports before purchasing this vehicle, and none of them noted these issues even though the vehicle was a few years old at the time. PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE IN 2013, INQUIRED ABOUT DEFECTS AND RECALLS BUT WAS TOLD THERE WAS NONE. VEHICLE HAD 46,000 MILES ON IT AT TIME OF PURCHASE 104K PRESENTLY. GOOD RUNNING VEHICLE UP TO PAR ON MAINTENANCE, WHICH ALL GOES TO WASTE WITH A ROTTED SUBFRAME. RESEARCHED 100'S POSSIBLY 1000'S OF COMPLAINTS ONLINE WITH THE SAME ISSUE, WHERE WAS MENTIONED NOTHING WAS DONE ABOUT IT. CONTACTED CHRYSLER MYSELF TO PUT IN COMPLAINT AND AGENT WOULD NOT EVEN FORWARD IT TO THE NEXT LEVEL BECAUSE THE LACK OF RECALL OR EXTENDED WARRANTY. THE COST FOR A NEW FRAME FROM A CHRYSLER DEALER IS OVER 2K AND COST JUST AS MUCH TO REPLACE. BUT THE PART IS ON BACK ORDER FOR WEEKS. (COULD THIS MEAN THERE ARE SO MANY PEOPLE IN LINE WAITING TO ORDER AND NEEDING THIS PARTICULAR PART?) CANNOT TRUST USED PARTS BECAUSE OF MANY CHRYSLER PACIFICA OWNERS HAD TO SALVAGE THEIR VEHICLE FOR THE SAME REASON. MORE OF AN INVESTIGATION SHOULD BE DONE INTO THIS. IN THE MIDST OF A PANDEMIC WHO CAN AFFORD THESE OUTRAGEOUS, UNEXPECTED REPAIR COSTS OR EVEN A NEW VEHICLE. MY ONLY OPTION IS TO SALVAGE IT FOR WAY LESS THAT IT'S WORTH, AS I MENTIONED IT DRIVE GREAT! I CANNOT SELL IT TO ANYONE ELSE KNOWING THE SAFETY HAZARD IT HAS ON IT AND I CANNOT AFFORD A CAR PAYMENT. I AM FEARFUL OF MY ENGINE FALLING OUT OF THE BOTTOM IF I DRIVE IT. SOMETHING HAS TO BE DONE, TOO MANY VEHICLES WITH THE SAME ISSUE. FORCE A RECALL ON CHRYSLER FOR THEIR ROTTED SUBFRAMES.

I BROUGHT MY CAR IN FOR INSPECTION. I ALSO WANTED THEM TO CHECK THE MUFFLER. I WAS CONTACTED BY THE GARAGE, THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE BECAUSE THE SUBFRAME UNDER THE ENGINE IS COMPLETELY RUSTED AWAY. THEY SAID EVEN IF THEY COULD REPLACE THE MUFFLER THERE WOULD BE NOTHING TO ATTACH IT TO. THAT'S HOW DETERIORATED IT IS. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THERE IS ANY RECOURSE I HAVE ? I WOULD LIKE CHRYSLER TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS DEFECT. THANK YOU, LARRY LA BELLA

BOUGHT CAR 2018 FEB . NO MENTION OF WHOLE UNDER CARRIAGE RUSTED OUT - 2004-2008 CHRYSLER FORGOT TO SPRAY FOR RUST. WHEN WE GO WE BOUGHT IT LATER IN EVENING - WAS ASSURED THAT CAR HAD BEEN CHECKED OUT AND SOUND. WE HAVE DONE SOME REPAIRS ON OTHER THINGS - THERMOSTAT , RADIATOR , TIRES ABS SENSOR ISSUE BUT THERE WAS NO MENTION OF UNDERSIDE BEING RUSTED FROM FRONT TO BACK - TWO YEARS AND THE ENGINE IS GOING TO FALL OUT AND CAN NO LONGER DRIVE THE CAR. THIS CAR WAS SUBMERGED IN WATER SOMEWHERE BEFORE WE RECEIVED. THIS IS THE SHORTER VERSION OF THIS SITUATION. ALIGNMENT IS NOW WAY OFF , PULLS TO ONE SIDE OUT OF NOWHERE. WEARING ON TIRES- JUST TOOK IT INTO HEARTLAND TIRE BY HOUSE AND TOLD DO NOT DRIVE AND THAT FIXING IT WOULD BE OVER 3500 OR MORE.

MY CAR WAS BUILT IN 2005 WHEN THE SUBFRAME RECALL WAS ISSUED, I CALLED THEM TO TRY AND GET SOME HELP, BASICALLY GET REIMBURSED FOR THE LABOR OF GETTING THE REPLACEMENT SUBFRAME INSTALLED. THE OLD SUBFRAME FINALLY BROKE WHILE I WAS DRIVING AT CITY SPEEDS AND I WAS LUCKY THAT THE SHOP I USED LET ME KNOW. WHEN I CONTACTED THEM, THE STATEMENT WAS THAT DUE TO THE AGE AND CURRENT MILEAGE OF THE CAR, WE CAN NOT HELP YOU. NOW IF I HAD OF BEEN ON A ROAD TRIP OR DRIVING AT THE SPEED LIMIT THIS WOULD HAVE CAUSE SOME SERIOUS DAMAGE. WHILE I WAS DRIVING AT 55 MPH ON THE EXPRESSWAY. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT ABOUT 5 MILES TO MY HOUSE. I DISCOVERED IT WHEN I LOOKED UNDER THE SUV, AT MY HOUSE. CRADLE WAS ALREADY WELDED WHERE IT HAD A RUSTED SECTION. I BOUGHT IT USED 2 YEARS AGO.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WAS ABLE TO PLACE A HAND THROUGH THE SUBFRAME. IN ADDITION, THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL PROTRUDED OUTWARD AT AN ANGLE WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED DUE TO SIGNIFICANT SUBFRAME DAMAGE. THE CONTACT DESCRIBED THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL AS "ROLLING BACK ON ITSELF". MCDONALD CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM BIG RAPIDS (14061 NORTHLAND DRIVE, BIG RAPIDS, MICHIGAN 49307, (231) 796-2651) WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL ON THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 246,000.

ON 10/11/18 I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO A MECHANIC FOR A STATE INSPECTION AND WAS INFORMED BY THE MECHANIC THAT SUB FRAME WAS RUSTED TO THE POINT THAT ITS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND WILL NOT PASS INSPECTION. I WAS ADVISED THAT THERE WOULD A BE A RECALL ON THIS AND I CONTACTED A CHRYSLER DEALER AND I CALLED CHRYSLER AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS NOT. DOING RESEARCH I FOUND THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH THAT HAS BEEN REPORTED HUNDREDS OF TIMES. THE ESTIMATED COST TO REPAIR THIS WOULD BE BETWEEN $2000-$4000 AND CHRYSLER IS AWARE OF THIS VERY UNSAFE PROBLEM WITH THIS CAR. I WAS ADVISED THAT I CANNOT DRIVE THIS CAR ANYMORE DUE TO THIS ISSUE. I AM THE SOLE PROVIDER AND TRANSPORTATION FOR THREE YOUNG CHILDREN AND CANNOT AFFORD TO BE WITHOUT THIS VEHICLE. I HAVE SPOKEN TO A LOCAL CHRYSLER DEALER AND ALSO SPOKE TO CHRYSLER CUSTOMER SERVICE ABOUT THIS. THE TOLD ME THAT THE POTENTIAL DANGER WOULD BE MY ENGINE FALLING OUT WHILE DRIVING.

MY MECHANIC INSPECTED THE UNDERCARRIAGE OF MY VEHICLE WHEN PERFORMING AN OIL CHANGE RECENTLY AND NOTICED THAT BOTH SIDES OF THE FRAME ARE SEVERELY RUSTED AND HAVE HOLES IN THEM. HE ADVISED THAT IT WILL NOT BE SAFE FOR DRIVING IN A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME. HE ADVISED THAT THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE AND SHOULD BE UNDER RECALL! PLEASE ADVISE.

I OWN A 2006 CHRYSLER PACIFICA WITH A RUSTED, ROTTED, AND BROKEN SUB-FRAME & ENGINE CRADLE WHICH COULD HAVE RESULTED IN CATASTROPHE HAD IT GIVEN OUT AT HIGH SPEEDS & THE ENGINE FELL OUT OF THE CAR OR HIT THE GROUND. THERE HAVE BEEN MANY, MANY REPORTS OF THIS ISSUE - JUST THE ONES THAT I'VE FOUND, BUT THERE'S BEEN NO INVESTIGATION THAT I CAN FIND. THERE ARE NO RECALLS EXCEPT THE ONE RECALL ISSUED FOR CHRYSLER PACIFICAS IN SNOW-BELT STATES THAT WERE BUILT DURING A 6-WEEK PERIOD IN 2004, THIS ONLY COVERS THE 2004-05 MODELS. EVEN THOUGH THIS IS A WELL-KNOWN PROBLEM IN ALL 2004-2008 CHRYSLER PACIFICAS, NOT JUST THE ONES BUILT IN THAT SMALL WINDOW OF TIME FROM FEBRUARY-MARCH 2004. MY CAR WAS MANUFACTURED IN OCTOBER 2005. THERE IS NO RECOURSE FOR OWNERS, EXCEPT TO PAY $4,000-$5,000 OUT OF POCKET TO REPAIR IT, IF IT'S REPAIRABLE. MINE IS NOT. ENGINE CRADLE/SUB-FRAME ROTTED COMPLETELY DUE TO RUST, ONE SIDE BROKE FREE YESTERDAY, LEAVING THE ENGINE ONLY SUPPORTED BY ONE SIDE OF A STILL INCREDIBLY RUSTED AND ROTTED ENGINE CRADLE. THE VEHICLE IS NO LONGER SAFE TO DRIVE, AND IS MY ONLY MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION ALONG WITH A NECESSITY FOR ME TO DO MY JOB AND EARN MONEY. I HAVE NO OTHER OPTIONS, AND I AM NOW WITHOUT A CAR I VERY MUCH NEED. WE TOOK OUR CAR IN FOR A FRONT END ALIGNMENT AND THANK GOD WE DID. OUR MOTOR WAS MOMENTS FROM FALLING OUT OF THE CAR! THERE WAS SO MUCH RUST AND CORROSION THAT THE SHIMMY AND PULL AND LUNGING WE FELT WAS THE WEIGHT OF THE MOTOR COMING LOOSE! THE FACT THAT THIS HAS BEEN A RECALL ON CHRYSLER PACIFICAS OF ADJACENT YEARS AND DUE TO THE NUMBER OF ONLINE COMPLAINTS WE FOUND WHEN SEARCHING FOR A RECALL SHOULD BE ENOUGH OF A REASON FOR CHRYSLER TO APPLY A RECALL BUT APPARENTLY THEY WANT TO WAIT UNTIL PEOPLE DIE BECAUSE THEIR ENGINE FALLS OUT OF THEIR CAR GOING 70 MPH ON A HIGHWAY. WE ENDED UP PAYING ABOUT $2500 TO HAVE IT FIXED. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. A SAFETY ISSUE LIKE THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN DEALT WITH YEARS AGO.

I WAS TOLD CONTINUING TO DRIVE THE CAR WAS DANGEROUS, BUT THIS IS A VERY COSTLY FIX - MORE THAN THE CAR IS WORTH - CONSIDERING CHRYSLER WILL NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR NOT COATING THE ENGINE CRADLE TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING. IT IS AFFECTING STEERING AND HANDLING OF CAR AS WELL.

I HAD IT REINSPECTED IN JUNE OF 2016 THEN NOT ONLY 8 MONTHS LATER THE WHOLE BOTTOM OF MY CAR WAS ALL ROTTED OUT, I HAD IT LOOKED AT, I WAS TOLD IT SHOULDN'T HAVE BEEN INSPECTED 8 MONTHS BEFORE AND THIS WAS FEBRUARY OF 2017 WHEN I WAS TOLD THIS. I WENT BACK TO THE DEALER THAT I BOUGHT IT FROM BUT FAILED, TALKED WITH ONE OF THE OWNERS OF THE DEALERSHIP BUT FAILED. I'M ON DISABILITY AND I COULDN'T AFFORD TO GET ANOTHER CAR BUT HAD TO BECAUSE OF DR APPOINTMENTS ECT. SO THIS INCIDENT PUT ME IN THE ARMS OF SEVERE FINANCIAL HARDSHIP. FROM WHAT I WAS TOLD BY A COUPLE GARAGES MY CAR WAS VERY UNSAFE TO DRIVE, WITH THE SUB FRAME BEING ROTTED OUT, THE ROCKER BEING ALL RUSTED ALL THE WAY THROUGH I BELIEVE THE REINSPECTED AN UNSAFE VEHICLE FROM THE DATE I HAD IT REINSPECTED BY THE DEALERSHIP. WE TOOK OUR 2006 CHRYSLER PACIFIC IN FOR A REPAIR. THE MECHANIC CALLED TO REPORT THE ENGINE CRADLE IS SEVERLY RUSTED AND UNSAFE TO DRIVE. BEFORE THIS WE NOTED SOME "CLUNKING" IN THE FRONT END BUT THOUGHT IT WAS A SUSPENSION ISSUE. WE DID NOT KNOW THAT THIS VEHICLE HAD THIS ENGINE CRADLE PROBLEM UNTIL THE MECHANIC PUT THE VEHICLE ON THE LIFT. WE ARE FACE WITH A VERY COSTLY REPAIR BECAUSE THE VEHICLE IS UNSAFE AND ESSENTIALLY WORTHLESS. THE MECHANIC SAID WITHOUT WARNING THE ENGINE COULD HAVE CAME LOOSE AND IMPEADED THE ABILITY TO STEER OR BRAKE. IF WE WERE ON THE HIGHWAY WE PROBABLY WOULD HAVE LOST CONTROL AND CRASHED.

BROUGHT CAR IN FOR REPAIR AND THE SHOP WOULD NOT EVEN LIFT THE CAR UP DUE TO THE SUB FRAME BEING IN SUCH POOR SHAPE. THEY ADVISED ME TO CALL THE DEALERSHIP TO SEE IF THERE ARE ANY OPEN RECALLS FOR THE ISSUE. UPON CALLING THE DEALERSHIP THEY LET ME KNOW THAT AS THERE ARE NOT ANY OPEN RECALLS ON THIS THEY DO KEEP THE ENGINE CRADLE IN STOCK AS THIS IS A VERY COMMON ISSUE. THE PART ALONE IS ALMOST $2,000.00 AND NOT EVEN SURE WHAT THE LABOR WOULD BE AS OF YET. AS FAR AS THE REST OF THE COMPLAINTS GO LOOKS AS IT WILL BE OVER A $3,000.00 FIX. I HAVE FOUND OUT FROM THE DEALSHIP THAT THE PREVIOUS YEARS HAVE BEEN RECALLED FOR THE SAME ISSUE.

IT WAS SO BAD THAT THEY DIDN'T ALIGN THE TIRES BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T WANT TO BE HELD RESPONSIBLE. I DROVE THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE AND EXPLAINED THE ISSUE. THEIR RESPONSE WAS THIS IS A BUY HERE PAY HERE AND THE VEHICLE WAS AS IS NO WARRANTY SO THEIR NOT RESPONSIBLE. WOW....WAS MY RESPONSE.... SO I FOLLOWED UP BY CALLING THE DEALER ABOUT THE ISSUE... BUT THEY DON'T HAVE A RECALL ON THE VEHICLE FRAME ISSUE FOR 2006 BUT ONLY FOR CERTAIN VEHICLES IN 2005.... NOW IF THAT AIN'T JUST BLOW MY MIND...ONLY THING I COULD DO WAS FILE A COMPLAINT AND HOPE ENOUGH PEOPLE DO TOO FOR IT TO BE A CHANCE FOR RECALL... ENTERED THE FREEWAY AND AFTER REACHING SPEED OF APPROXIMATELY 55-60 MPH I HEARD A LOUD SOUND THAT SOUNDED LIKE A SMALL EXPLOSION. SOMEONE DRIVING IN THE LANE NEXT TO ME BEGAN FRANTICALLY POINTING AT THE ENGINE OF MY CAR. IMMEDIATELY I SAW SMOKE AND FLAMES COMING FROM UNDERNEATH THE CAR'S HOOD. I PULLED OFF THE EXIT THAT I WAS APPROACHING, PARKED THE CAR AT THE CURB, JUMPED OUT THE CAR, DIALED 911. FIRE DEPARTMENT RESPONDED IN A COUPLE OF MINUTES AND BY THIS TIME ENTIRE ENGINE AND HOOD WAS ON FIRE.THEY PUT THE FIRE OUT. CAR WAS NOT ABLE TO BE PLACED IN NEUTRAL OR ANY OTHER GEAR, BUT WAS STILL TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP THAT PERFORMED REPAIRS TO FUEL INJECTORS AND OTHER COMPONENTS OF THE ENGINE ON FEBRUARY 2, 2016. DURING FEB. 2016 INCIDENT THE GAS PEDAL WOULD NOT GIVE POWER TO MAKE THE CAR ACCELERATE, CAR STARTED SMOKING AND GIVING OFF FUMES THAT SMELLED LIKE BURNING PLASTIC. CAR REPAIRS WERE MADE IN THAT INCIDENT. GOING TO HAVE DIAGNOSTIC PERFORMED TO RESEARCH IF THERE IS A CONNECTION/RELATION BETWEEN FEBRUARY 2016 INCIDENT AND JUNE 2016 INCIDENT.

WAS INSPECTING THE EXHAUST SYSTEM AROUND THE MUFFLER AND HAPPENED TO NOTICE SOME EXCESSIVE RUST ON THE SUB FRAME AND UPON FURTHER LOOKING I WENT TO THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THE MOTOR CRADLE AND WHERE THE MOTOR CRADLE CONNECTS WITH THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE SUB FRAME THERE WERE ENORMOUS AMOUNT OF DECAY AND CORROSION ON THE MOTOR CRADLE AND SPLITTING IN THE SUB FRAME. I BELIEVE THAT THERE WAS A SERIOUS OVER LOOK AND NEGLECT IN NOT TREATING THE SUB FRAME WITH SOME SORT OF ANTI CORROSIVE AT TIME OF ASSEMBLY AT THE FACTORY BY CHRYSLER.THE CAR WAS MANUFACTURED ON SEPTEMBER 2005.

ALSO WILL NOT PASS AN INSPECTION. THERE IS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT REGARDING THIS ISSUE. CHRYSLER WILL NOT ISSUE A RECALL. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE! ON THE INTERNET I NOTE THAT THERE WERE RECALLS (OR REPAIRS) BY CHRYSLER FOR 2005 MODEL YEAR CARS BUT NOT 2006. THE CAR IS IN EXCELLENT SHAPE EXCEPT FOR THIS CRADLE MOUNT CORROSION. I NOW HAVE TO REPAIR THE CAR FOR A COST THAT IS MORE THAN THE CAR IS WORTH, OR REPLACE THE PACIFICA WITH EQUIVALENT FOR MUCH MORE MONEY. CHRYSLER SHOULD DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS ISSUE. ON 12/4/15 WE TOOK OUR 2006 CHRYSLER PACIFICA FOR AN OIL CHANGE. WHEN WE PICKED UP THE VEHICLE THE MECHANIC AT THE DEALERSHIP EXPLAINED TO US THAT THE SUBFRAME THAT HOLDS THE ENGINE OF THE VEHICLE IN PLACE IS RUSTED AND WILL NOT PASS ANNUAL PA INSPECTION WITHOUT BEING REPLACED. WE WERE QUOTED AN AMOUNT OF $2,009.28 FOR JUST THE PARTS TO REPLACE THE RUSTED SUBFRAME. THIS DID NOT INCLUDE ANY LABOR. THE VEHICLE ONLY HAS 73,000 MILES ON IT AND HAS BEEN GARAGE KEPT SINCE THE DAY IT WAS BOUGHT BRAND NEW IN 2006. AFTER SOME EXTENSIVE RESEARCH, THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM IN 2004-2008 CHRYSLER PACIFICA VEHICLES. I CONTACTED CHRYSLER CONCERNING THIS ISSUE DUE TO THE SAFETY CONCERN THIS POSES FOR MYSELF AND MY FAMILY AS WELL AS THE FACT THAT THIS SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING TO A VEHICLE THAT IS LESS THAN 10 YEARS OLD AND GARAGE KEPT. THE CONTACT AT CHRYSLE ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM, BUT THAT OUR VEHICLE WAS NOT COVERED UNDER A WARRANTY THAT CHRYSLER ISSUED FOR 2004-2005 PACIFICAS. I FIND IT COMPLETELY IRRESPOSIBLE OF CHRYSLER TO DENY FIXING THIS ISSUE WHEN THEY ARE WELL AWARE THAT THEY DID NOT PROVIDE ENOUGH COATING OF THIS PART WHILE MANUFACTURING THIS VEHICLE. I HAVE A PICTURE OF THE DAMAGE BUT HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO ATTACH IT TO THIS FORM. IF WE ATTEMPT TO FIX THE ISSUE WITH THE VEHICLE, WE WILL BE PUTTING MORE MONEY INTO THE VEHICLE THAN WHAT IT IS WORTH AND IF WE TRY TO TRADE IN THE VEHICLE, WE WILL NOT BE GIVEN THE VALUE OF THE VEHICLE DUE TO THE REQUIRED COSTLY REPAIR TO PASS INSPECTION. ORIGINAL OWNER OF A 2006 PACIFICA (85000 MILES)...ON OCTOBER 16, 2015, I DROVE THE VEHICLE TO THE CHRYSLER DEALER WHERE IT WAS PURCHASED AND HAS BEEN REGULARLY MAINTAINED FOR A ROUTINE SCHEDULED OIL CHANGE AND MULTI-POINT INSPECTION (NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT MESSAGE TRIGGERED THE VISIT.) IN THE PROCESS OF RETURNING ME THE KEYS AND DIRECTING ME TO THE CASHIER, THE SERVICE ADVISOR MENTIONED THAT A PART KNOWN AS A "FRONT CROSS MEMBER" WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO RUST/CORROSION SPOTTED ON THE INSPECTION WITH ESTIMATED COST OF REPAIR AT $1862 FOR THE PART AND $644 FOR THE LABOR (ESTIMATED TIME TO COMPLETE THE REPAIR AT 5.6 HOURS). THE SERVICE ADVISOR MADE MENTION THAT FAILURE TO DO THE REPAIR COULD RESULT IN THE ENGINE FALLING OUT. UPON RETURNING HOME, I GOOGLED "PACIFICA FRAME RUST" AND DISCOVERED THIS PROBLEM IS WIDESPREAD. I LEARNED THERE IS A CLASS-ACTION LAWSUIT IN OHIO INVOLVING THIS ISSUE WITH MOTIONS AND RULINGS RELATIVELY FRESH WITH A JUDGE NAMED "DONALD C. NUGENT" HEARING THE CASE WITH THE FIRST NAME OF PLAINTIFF NAMED BEING "HOLLAND ET AL" AND THE DEFENDANT IN THE SUIT BEING NAMED "FCA" AS IN FIAT CHRYSLER. FROM INFORMATION I HAVE GATHERED ONLINE, I HAVE DISCOVERED THAT ENGINE-CRADLE ROT IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM FOR THE CHRYSLER PACIFICA. CHRYSLER ADMITS THEY DIDN'T APPLY ENOUGH COATING TO THE ENGINE'S SUB-FRAME DURING ASSEMBLY, BUT THUS FAR HAS ONLY OFFERED TO COVER UNDER WARRANTY ONLY A VERY SMALL PORTION OF THE VEHICLES (APPROX 7000 IN A NOVEMBER 9, 2010 TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN). LATER, ON MARCH 16, 2012, FIATCHRYSLER ISSUED A NEW TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN SUPERCEDING THE PREVIOUS TSB STATING THE ENGINE CRADLE DEFECT AND EXTENDED WARRANTY APPLIED ONLY TO 2004-05 PACIFICAS IN CANADA AND SALT BELT STATES MANUFACTURED IN A SIX WEEK WINDOW IN 2004. THIS MEANS APPROX 300000 PACIFICAS ARE DANGEROUS AND IN NEED OF REPAIR MINE INCLUDED.

THEN DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY 150 MILE'S FROM HOME, AT 70 MPH, A HARD BANG AND THE REAR END LIFTED UP AND DROPPED DOWN. CAR UNCONTROLLABLE. FINALLY ABLE TO STOP AND REALIZE THE SUBFRAME DROPPED RIGHT OUT OF THE CAR LEAVING MY REAR DIFFERENTIAL ON THE GROUND. IT HAD RUSTED FROM THE TOP OF THE SUBFRAME DOWN. LOOKED ON LINE AND SEEN IT WAS HAPPENING TO OTHER PEOPLE. CALLED CHRYSLER WAS TOLD MY PROBLEM. HENCE MY FIRST AMERICAN MADE CAR AND MY LAST. POS!!!

UPON ROUTINE INSPECTION OF THE VEHICLE'S UNDERCARRIAGE, THEY IDENTIFIED SEVERE CORROSION OF THE "ENGINE CRADLE". THEY ADVISED THAT ENGINE CRADLE WAS IN VERY POOR CONDITION AND THAT FAILURE WAS LIKELY IN THE NEAR FUTURE CAUSING THE ENGINE TO DROP OUT OF THE VEHICLE. I IMMEDIATELY CONTACTED THE CHRYSLER/DODGE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR. THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY WERE AWARE OF A PROBLEM WITH THE ENGINE CRADLES IN THAT MODEL YEAR PACIFICA, BUT THAT THERE CURRENTLY WAS NO RECALL TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. I WAS QUOTED $3,000.00 TO REPLACE THE ENGINE CRADLE, WHICH I CAN NOT AFFORD. I WAS INFORMED BY ANOTHER CONSUMER THAT THE FRONT END AND ENGINE CRADLE, IN MY 2006 CHRYSLER PACIFICA ARE RUSTING. THIS RUST PROBLEM IS CAUSING THE ENGINE TO ACTUAL FALL OUT OF VEHICLES. AFTER HEARING OF THIS, I HAD TWO DIFFERENT MECHANICS CHECK MY VEHICLE. AFTER BOTH INSPECTIONS I WAS TOLD MY VEHICLE IS SEVERELY RUSTED AND IS NOT GOING TO BE SAFE TO DRIVE FOR MUCH LONGER. THE ESTIMATED TIME FRAME I WAS GIVEN IS BETWEEN 6-12 MONTHS. IT WAS SUGGESTED THAT I DRIVE LOCAL ONLY AND HAVE IT REINSPECTED EVERY THREE MONTHS FOR MY SAFETY. I CONTACTED CHRYSLER'S RECALL CENTER ONLY TO FIND OUT THERE ARE CURRENTLY NO RECALLS ISSUED AT THIS TIME FOR MY VEHICLE AND THEY DO NOT EXPECT THERE TO BE ANY. I CALLED DIRECTLY TO THE CHRYSLER CO. TO HEAR THE SAME THING THAT THE RECALL CENTER TOLD ME AND THAT THEY HAVE NO INTENTIONS OF HELPING PEOPLE THAT ARE EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM. AT THIS POINT I AM UNABLE TO AFFORD THE HIGH COST OF REPAIRS AND WILL SOON BE OUT OF A ROAD SAFE VEHICLE.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THERE WAS SMOKE COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE REAR, THE LOWER FRONT, AND THE FRONT UPPER MOTOR MOUNTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I FIND IT CRAZY THAT A CAR UNDER 10 YEARS OLD SHOULD HAVE THIS KIND OF RUST DAMAGE. THE VISIBLE OUTSIDE OF THE CAR IS IN PERFECT SHAPE, BUT THE UNDERSIDE IS TOTALLY CORRODED! I MAINTAIN THAT CHRYSLER IS RESPONSIBLE AS WELL TO REPAIR MY 2006 UNDER RECALL AS WELL, BOTH CHRYSLER AND NHTSA ARE FULLY AWARE THAT THIS PROBLEM EXISTS. I DROVE IT TO THE LOCAL CHRYSLER DEALER AND THEY SAID THAT THIS PROBLEM IS KNOWN BY CHRYSLER AND THAT I SHOULD CALL CHRYSLER AND REPORT THE PROBLEM. THE DEALER ESTIMATE FOR REPAIR WAS $4400.00! I CALLED CHRYSLER DIRECTLY FROM DEALERSHIP AND AFTER SOME REVIEW I WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING THAT COULD BE DONE FOR ME!! THEY SAID THAT IF A LARGE ENOUGH BUMP WAS ROLLED OVER, THE ENGINE COULD FALL OUT AND A SERIOUS ACCIDENT COULD OCCUR AS THE VEHICLE WOULD MORE THAN LIKELY LOSE CONTROL. I AM NOW AFRAID TO ALLOW MY WIFE AND 2 SMALL CHILDREN TO DRIVE IN IT FOR EXTENDED PERIODS OF TIME. I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE USED FOR ROUGHLY $10,000 LESS THAN A YEAR PRIOR TO LEARNING ABOUT THIS SAFETY ISSUE FROM A CHRYSLER USED AND NEW CAR DEALER-BRYDEN MOTORS IN BELOIT, WI. I ALSO PURCHASED AN $2000 EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THE VEHICLE, WHICH OF COURSE SOMETHING LIKE THIS IS NOT COVERED IN SUCH A PLAN. BUT THEN THEY REVISED THE EXTENSION OF WARRANTY TO INCLUDE ONLY CARS MANUFACTURED AFTER FEB 23, 2004 AND BEFORE MARCH 31, 2004. WHILE SUCH A LIMITATION? MY VEHICLE, ACCORDING THE CHRYSLER CUSTOMER SERVICE PERSON ON THE PHONE, WAS BUILD ON AUG 25, 2004 AND THEREFORE FALLS OUTSIDE OF THE COVERED TIME PERIOD. THE MECHANIC HAD THE CAR ON THE LIFT AND TOLD ME THE ENGINE CRADLE SUB FRAME WAS RUSTED/ROTTED OUT AND THAT THE VEHICLE IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THE VEHICLE IS 8 YEARS OLD AND HAS ONLY APPROXIMATELY 55,000 MILES. THE RIGHT AND LEFT SECTIONS OF THE ENGINE CRADLE SUB FRAME WHERE THERE IS WELDING ARE THE ONLY SECTIONS OF THE FRAME THAT ARE RUSTED/ROTTED OUT TO THE POINT WHERE YOU COULD STICK A FINGER THROUGH THE ROTTED OUT SECTION (CAN PROVIDE PICTURES IF NEEDED). I CONTACTED CHRYSLER'S NATIONAL CUSTOMER SUPPORT AND WAS ASSIGNED A CASE NUMBER AND TOLD TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A LOCATE DEALERSHIP FOR DIGITAL IMAGING THAT WOULD HELP CHRYSLER DETERMINE IF IT WAS A FACTORY DEFECT OR ALTERNATIVELY OWNER CAUSED. I DID AS INSTRUCTED AND WAS TOLD A FEW DAYS LATER THAT THE FRAME ROT WAS NOT A FACTORY DEFECT BUT RATHER OWNER CAUSED. THE CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP PROVIDED AN ESTIMATE OF REPAIR OF APPROXIMATELY $5,000. AFTER A BRIEF INTERNET SEARCH, I REALIZED THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE WITH THE CHRYSLER PACIFICA AND IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT THE PACIFICA OWNERS LIKE MYSELF AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC HAVE NOT BEEN MADE AWARE OF. PER MY MECHANIC AND OTHER GOVERNMENT DEPARTMENTS THAT I HAVE DISCUSSED THIS ISSUE WITH, IF THE ENGINE CRADLE SUB FRAME WERE TO GIVE OUT WHILE THE VEHICLE IS DRIVEN, A SERIOUS AND POTENTIALLY DEADLY ACCIDENT COULD OCCUR. NEEDLESS TO SAY, THE CAR WILL NOT BE DRIVEN BY MY FAMILY UNTIL REPAIRED AS I WON'T RISK THE POTENTIAL CONSEQUENCE. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN IN TO LOCAL DEALERSHIP FOR A BRAKE JOB AND FOR ISSUES WITH THE RIDE AND AN ODOR IN THE INTERIOR CABIN THAT APPEARED AFTER PROLONGED ACCELERATION. UPON INSPECTION, IT WAS REPORTED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE DUE TO THE SUB-FRAME BEING ROTTED AND THE MOTOR MOUNTS WORN TO SUCH A DEGREE THAT THE ENGINE COULD FALL OUT OF THE VEHICLE ENTIRELY. THE ENTIRE EXHAUST SYSTEM WAS COMPROMISED AS WELL, INCLUDING THE EXHAUST MANIFOLDS. IN ADDITION, MUCH OF THE FRONT SUSPENSION WAS SHOT AND NEEDED REPLACEMENT. OUR FAMILY PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE NEW AND HAVE HAD IT SERVICED MANY, MANY TIMES AT A CHRYSLER FACILITY OVER THE EIGHT YEARS WE OWNED IT. WE WERE NEVER INFORMED ONCE THAT THE SUB-FRAME HAD ANY SIGN OF EXCESSIVE CORROSION UNTIL NOW. WE BELIEVE THE CORROSION IS THE RESULT OF POOR DESIGN AND POSSIBILITY POOR MATERIAL. DURING A ROUTINE OIL CHANGE, A MECHANIC INFORMED ME THAT THERE WAS SEVERE RUST (50%) TO THE SUPPORT SYSTEM HOLDING UP THE ENGINE ON THE PASSENGERS SIDE. THE CAR ONLY HAS 84,000 MILES. HE SAID THAT IT IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION, THAT, IF NOT REPAIRED, WOULD EVENTUALLY BREAK WAY AND THE ENGINE WOULD DROP OUT OF THE SUPPORT SYSTEM. WHEN I CONTACTED CHRYSLER CARE, THE INTAKE OPERATOR BASICALLY READ FROM A SCRIPT AND STATED THAT MY VEHICLE WASN'T COVERED IN THE RECALL, EVEN THOUGH THE SAME PART WAS AFFECTED, AND THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THAT THEY COULD DO TO ASSIST ME. ON MARCH 20TH 2012 I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK WHEN THE DRIVER SIDE STRUT MOUNT BROKE, SLIGHTLY ALLOWING THE STRUT TO DAMAGE MY HOOD AND BREAK MY INNER TIE ROD END. I IMMEDIATELY PARKED THE VEHICLE CALLED AAA AND HAD IT TOWED TO MY HOUSE. ON MARCH 23 I PURCHASED A NEW STRUT MOUNT AND ON THE 24TH REPLACED THE BROKEN ONE WITH THE NEW ONE. UNFORTUNATELY I DID THE WORK MYSELF AND DIDN'T NOTICE MY INNER TIE ROD BROKE. WHICH LED TO MY VEHICLE NEEDING TO BE CHECKED BY MY MECHANIC ABOUT 8 MONTHS LATER WHEN MY OUTER TIE ROD END GAVE WAY DAMAGING IN THE PROCESS THE WHEEL BEARINGS AND THE DRIVER SIDE AXLE. I HAD EVERYTHING FIXED AND RAN INTO NO MORE PROBLEMS UNTIL JULY 17TH 2013 WHEN MY FRONT END ALIGNMENT STARTED TO SLIP AND A NOTICEABLE KNOCKING NOISE STARTED COMING FROM MY FRONT END. I IMMEDIATELY SET UP AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE MY VEHICLE SERVICED AT KELLY CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP IN LEHIGH VALLEY AND THEY WERE ABLE TO GET ME IN A WEEK LATER. IT TOOK THEM ROUGHLY A WEEK TO FIX MY CAR. BUT THEY REPLACED MY UPPER ENGINE MOUNT, FRONT LOWER ENGINE MOUNT, L/F INNER OUTER TIE ROD ENDS AND REMOVED A DAMAGED EXHAUST SHIELD. BUT THEY STILL COULDN'T' TELL ME WHY MY ALIGNMENT WAS OFF AND WHAT THE KNOCKING NOISE WAS. TOWARDS THE END OF AUGUST MY PASSENGER SIDE STRUT MOUNT BROKE AND I HAD IT REPLACED RIGHT AWAY. THEN AGAIN IN NOVEMBER THIS TIME COMPLETELY RIPPING THROUGH THE HOOD. THEN AGAIN IN FEBRUARY, MARCH AND NOW TODAY 5/7/2014 I NOTICED THE PASSENGER SIDE STRUT MOUNT IS ON THE VERGE OF BREAKING AGAIN. THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED JUNE 11, 2013 AND HAD THE REAR PASSENGER TIRE REPLACED DUE TO UNFIX-ABLE FLAT TIRE. THE DEALER HAD ME TAKE VEHICLE TO PEERLESS TIRES CO. THE TIRE WAS REPLACED WITH WRONG SIZE AND DIFFERENT BRAND OF TIRE. TRAVELING DURING THUNDERSTORM APPROXIMATELY 3,5 WEEKS AFTER PURCHASING VEHICLE; THE COMPUTER APPEARED TO LOCK WHEN VEHICLE SLIPPED ON PAVEMENT AS AWD ATTEMPTED TO ENGAGE CAUSING LOSS OF STEERING AND POWER THEN SKIDDED OFF THE ROAD. I MADE CLAIM THROUGH MY INSURANCE AND HAD VEHICLE INSPECTED BY LOCAL SHOP, AND I HAD MY MECHANIC LOOK TO SEE IF DAMAGE TO VEHICLE WAS NOTICEABLE WAS NOT HANDLING CORRECTLY AFTER ACCIDENT. WHEN ACCELERATES OR DECELERATES THE VEHICLE WILL LUNGE FORWARD. TOOK VEHICLE TO PEERLESS TIRE CO. AFTER MECHANIC POINTED OUT THE WRONG SIZE AND MODEL OF TIRE ON REAR PASSENGER SIDE OF VEHICLE. AFTER ACCEPTING FAULT WANTED TO TAKE VEHICLE TO [XXX] PAINT AND BODY TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS. WHEN THE ESTIMATE WAS BEING DONE AND VEHICLE WAS ON LIFT...[XXX] AND MECHANIC POINTED OUT THE WHOLE MOTOR CARRIAGE HAD COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT AND CORRODED. THEY HAD NOT SEEN ANYTHING LIKE IT. TOOK VEHICLE BACK TO DEALER AND EXPLAINED THIS ISSUE. HAD TO GO AHEAD WITH INSURANCE CLAIM AND WAIT FOR ADJUSTORS TO DETERMINE FAULT OF ACCIDENT.THE VEHICLE IS TOTALLY UNSAFE TO DRIVE, FEELS LIKE THE ENGINE IS TIPPING FORWARD WHEN ACCELERATING OR DECELERATING. AFTER RESEARCHING THIS ISSUE IM SHOCKED AND APPALLED THAT 2 PREVIOUS MODEL YEARS HAVE SAME ISSUES WHICH ARE NOT BEING ADDRESSED FOR THE 2006. I DON'T WANT THIS VEHICLE REPAIRED I WANT OUT FROM UNDER IT, SINCE IT WAS SOLD UNSAFE AND IS A RECURRING PROBLEM EVEN AFTER HAVING MOTOR MOUNTS REPLACED AND UNDERCARRIAGE TREATED OR REPLACED. DURING A ROUTINE INSPECTION OF OUR VEHICLE THE MECHANIC STATED VEHICLE WAS IN PERFECT CONDITION EXCEPT THAT THE SUBFRAME (ENGINE CRADLE) HAD A ONE FOOT SECTION THAT WAS COMPLETELY RUSTED THROUGH. HE ALSO STATED THAT SINCE THE VEHICLE HAD ONLY 76000 MILES ON IT THAT THIS SHOULD NOT BE OCCURRING. OTHER MECHANICS IN THAT SHOP CONCURRED. CHRYSLER HAD, IN THE PREVIOUS TWO MODEL YEARS (04 & 05), EXTENDED THE WARRANTIES TO 10 YEARS/150,000 MILES (CHRYSLER DOCUMENT 0004817/#45543/X26) ACCEPTING RESPONSIBILITY FOR A FAULTY PRODUCT AND COVERING THE EXPENSES INCURRED BY CONSUMER MAKING THEIR VEHICLES ROADWORTHY AND SAFE. THIS IS TRULY A SAFETY ISSUE THAT HAS NOT BEEN RESOLVED BY THE MANUFACTURER AS THIS COMPONENT SUPPORTS THE ENGINE AND FRONT SUSPENSION/STEERING ASSEMBLIES. CALLS TO CHRYSLER HAVE NOT BEEN PRODUCTIVE. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND THEIR RELUCTANCE TO ADDRESS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT THEY HAVE ADDRESSED IN THE PAST. PROBLEM HAS NOT CHANGED JUST THE MODEL YEAR. DURING A ROUTINE INSPECTION AND OIL CHANGE AN AUTOMOTIVE TECHNICIAN IDENTIFIED THAT THE ENGINE CRADLE (AKA SUB-FRAME) WAS SEVERELY CORRODED. THE VEHICLE WAS EXAMINED BY TWO OTHER AUTO TECHNICIANS AND BOTH CONFIRMED THAT THE ENGINE CRADLE IS CORRODED AND THAT THE VEHICLE IS UNSAFE TO OPERATE. THE VEHICLE IS CONSIDERED A SAFETY HAZARD TO BOTH ITS PASSENGERS AND OTHER VEHICLES OPERATING IN THE VICINITY. THE VEHICLE IS CONSIDERED TO HAVE ZERO RESALE VALUE UNLESS THIS IS REPAIRED. PARTS FOR THIS VEHICLE HAVE BEEN ORDERED AND REPAIR IS SCHEDULE TO OCCUR WITHIN 10 DAYS. ESTIMATED COST FOR REPAIR IS $4,000. A REVIEW OF THE NHTSA DATABASE FOR THIS MODEL YEAR VEHICLE INDICATES 6 COMPLAINTS OF AN IDENTICAL NATURE FILED WITHIN THE LAST 12 MONTHS. SIMILAR SEARCHES OF OTHER WEBSITES CONFIRM THAT THIS IS AN EVOLVING PROBLEM. PACIFICA MODELS YEARS 2004 AND 2005 HAVE WELL DOCUMENTED ISSUES RELATIVE TO CORRODED ENGINE CRADLES AND BOTH MODEL YEARS HAVE BEEN RECALLED AS A RESULT. IT IS HIGHLY PROBABLE THAT THE FREQUENCY OF REPORTED CORRODED ENGINE CRADLES WILL INCREASE AS THESE VEHICLES AGE. A SERIOUS ACCIDENT OR INJURY MAY BE THE OUTCOME IN SITUATIONS WHERE THIS PROBLEM REMAINS UNCHECKED. WHEN I HAD MY CAR IN TO FIX A FRONT END PROBLEM LAST YEAR I WAS TOLD TWO OF THE THREE MOTOR MOUNTS NEED TO BE REPLACED. NOW WHEN HAVING A TIE ROD REPLACED I AM TOLD SUBFRAME BRACKETS ARE ROTTED AND NEED TO BE REPLACED. A CAR THAT IS FIVE YEARS OLD SHOULD NOT BE ROTTING FROM NORMAL DRIVING. ENGINE MOUNTS ON A CAR SHOULD NOT GO AFTER FOUR YEARS.

I BOUGHT A 2006 CHRYSLER PACIFICA. IT HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP 3 TIMES NOW SINCE I GO IT A YEAR AGO. THE FIRST TWO TIMES WERE FOR THE SAME THING. IT WAS A ROD AND LIFTERS. THIS LAST TIME, I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AND ALL OF THE SUDDEN MY WHEELS TURNED TO THE SIDE AND THEN MY CAR SKIDDED TO A STOP AS MY TIRES TURNED SIDEWAYS.! I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED AS MY CAR WAS NOT CONTROLLABLE AND ALMOST FLIPPED OVER. I WAS TOLD BY THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER THAT THE ROCKER ARM BROKE CAUSING THE DRIVE SHAFT TO FALL THEN THE AXEL BROKE.
