At 48,445 miles, the vehicle's engine experienced a catastrophic internal failure involving Cylinders 4 and 6. The failure resulted in a sudden loss of motive power and engine misfires while the vehicle was in operation, creating a severe safety hazard and risk of stalling in active traffic. A certified mechanic performed a cylinder leak-down and compression test, confirming internal engine failure consistent with the known 3.6L Pentastar cylinder head/gasket manufacturing defects. The vehicle is now unsafe to operate. This failure occurred well before the expected useful life of the powertrain and appears consistent with the defects alleged in the class action Maugain et al. v. FCA US LLC. No warning lights illuminated prior to the immediate failure.

Original code displayed was for a misfire on cylinder 5. Vehicle wouldn’t start and we had it towed to a Chrysler dealership for a diagnostic. Dealership stated it had a cracked head gasket. Based on research this is a common problem among Chrysler pacificas where it’s specifically happening on cylinder 5. Regular maintenance has been done and prior to the issue it idled roughly. The next morning the vehicle wouldn’t start.

Blown head gasket.

Dec 11, 2025

The vehicle stalls while driving without any notice. This van has a start/stop function and it malfunctions. There are two separate batteries that control this function and both of them have been replaced. The entire steering rack and steering column have had to be replaced. The front suspension has also had to be replaced because the tires wear out very quickly. The alternator, radiator, and motor mounts have also had to be replaced. The van is available for inspection. At the moment the vehicle will not start and I have been advised that it needs a new starter. This vehicle is a safety risk and it puts others at risk as well. These problems have been diagnosed and confirmed by at least three different service centers including a Chrysler dealership. I generally do not get any warning lamps, messages, or symptoms when the van stalls.

Well driving down the interstate my van slammed on brakes stated safety mode engine will.shut off soon. Now it will not start. It could have caused us to get in a serious wreck.

On our 2018 Pacifica the head gasket is blown. This seems to be a very common issue with the 2018 model that Chrysler won't address. No one was harmed. The problem was confirmed by our independent mechanic. No it has not been inspected by anyone other than the independent mechanic. The check engine light came on after a rough start, coolant level started to go down, and white smoke from the exhaust. There are many complaints and many forums with Pacifica owners needing to foot the bill for these repairs. There is specifically something wrong with this engine from this time frame. Thank you

This van is a 2018 modified with a handicap accessible rear ramp. We purchased this van in 2021 and since it has spent 6 months the first time at the shop then it was at our facility totally not running for another 6 months we paid 400 dollars to tow it to a dealership they replaced the transmission it ran for 2 months and now doesn’t start it’s in limp mode and when it does start and run when your driving it loses all power suddenly. We have only put 3800 miles on this van in the time we’ve had it and we owe over 25,000 still on it. Nobody can figure out what’s wrong with it but we are very small residential care facility and we are unable to transport residents because we have a broken van that we still pay for do we can’t purchase another one.

2018 Chrysler Pacifica, 3.6L V6, approx. 66,476 miles. The vehicle began losing coolant with no visible external leaks. When cold, opening the coolant reservoir cap releases a strong hiss of pressure and coolant flows back into the tank. The check engine light appeared, first showing a cylinder misfire (resolved after spark plug replacement), then later a slow EGR leak code. Over the next several weeks, the coolant level continued dropping and the reservoir remained pressurized even when cold. Vehicle was inspected by Waxahachie Dodge Chrysler Jeep (RO #490099, Sept 2025). Technician performed a combustion gas test and confirmed exhaust gases are present in the coolant system. No external leaks were found. Diagnosis: failed head gasket allowing combustion gases into the cooling system and coolant to burn in cylinders. The technician stated overheating or warpage may have opened a path at the head gasket but found no external signs of overheating. This condition poses a safety risk—coolant loss and trapped pressure can cause sudden overheating, engine stall, or hydrolock while driving, potentially leading to loss of power or a crash hazard. The issue was confirmed by a Chrysler dealer and documented in the repair order. The vehicle remains available for inspection. Prior to failure, symptoms included the check engine light, rough running, and repeated coolant loss. There were no visible leaks or overheating messages. Manufacturer was contacted but declined assistance; dealer verified diagnosis and estimate for repair (~$7,800).

As of late of September 2025, our vehicle had approximately 59,000 on the odometer. Around that time, the check engine light turned on. A few days later, white smoke began emitting from the exhaust. On September 27, 2025, the vehicle failed to start entirely. We had the car towed to Brooklyn Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram (CDJR) for inspection and repair. The dealership performed a diagnostic check and provided the report on October 13, 2025, indicating that the issue was due to a failed head gasket. The repair's cost is $8,711.56.

In July of 2021 I bought a used 2018 Chrysler Pacifica Touring L with about 21k miles on it from a massachusetts Cadillac dealer for ~$27k. in august of 2024 i took it to a massachusetts Chrysler dealer because my mechanic, while troubleshooting battery/start issues, noticed there was no coolant. The dealership told me there's a cylinder 6 misfire and coolant leaked into the engine. And that the car needs a new engine and that'll cost me ~$8k. and that their diagnostic fee was $150. The car has about 63k miles on it. In the two months before this issue, i put ~$1.5k into the car for two new tires, new back brakes, new sway bars and an oil change. in august of 2024 the car was no longer covered by any warranties. After talking to my mechanic and reading through a number of online car forums, it seemed likely that this was more than a chance event. there were known defects with the engine. and a relevant lawsuit: [XXX] [XXX] i reached out to Chrysler cares but they were not responsive. When i got people on the phone, i got the run-around and had my time wasted. i needed Chrysler to replace the engine on their dime in a timely fashion. i needed a working, reliable, safe car back immediately. Not in a couple weeks or if/when they decide to respond and resolve the issue. i needed it when i got the news the engine was toast. i had to spend money on car rentals. i had to pay $8k+ for a new engine. chrysler didn't pay a dime. While driving, the Pacifica lost all engine power in the middle of an intersection while traveling at 34 mph. All the dash lights blinked and sounded alerts. The car then showed U1267 and U0416 diagnostic codes.

Absolutely, [XXX] — here’s a more natural, human-sounding version of your NHTSA report draft: --- Vehicle Issue Report: Chrysler Pacifica I’m reporting ongoing issues with my Chrysler Pacifica that I believe could be safety-related: Clunking Sound: The vehicle makes a clunking noise when shifting gears. Steering Stickiness: The steering doesn’t always respond smoothly — it occasionally sticks when turning. This makes the car go wider than intended during turns and lane changes, which feels unsafe. I’m concerned they may point to a larger mechanical issue and could affect driver control. I’d appreciate it if NHTSA could look into whether this is part of a known defect or something that needs further investigation. Blown Head Gasket (Cylinder 3 Misfire) After having 2018 Chrysler Pacifica Touring L serviced at Chrysler Dealership, technicians found small leak coming from Oil/Coolant Filter housing unit. Part was replaced and few days later vehicle had a misfire and had flashing Check Engine Light (CEL). Car was towed to dealership, technicians said code seen was P0303 (Cylinder 3 Misfire). Tech, replaced Ignition coil for cylinder 3 and cleared codes. Two days later on start up, P0303 (cylinder 3 misfire) came back with CEL. Tech cleared codes and could not re-create CEL again. Two days later P0303 came back. Technicians performed more diagnostics and confirmed blown head gasket. This seems to be a very prominent issue with 2017-2018 Pacificas, more notably Cylinders 1, 3, & 5. The catalytic converter sits above the firewall cylinder bank and possibly is causing this possible engine failure due to excessive heat and poor heat dissipation capability over time. If not caught quickly, coolant can leak into cylinder affected and then overheat engine causing irreversible damage. This situation can also create a very hazardous situation if driving into speeding traffic from a turn and engine misfires, my vehicle could be rear ended if acceleration does not happen quickly enough.

Sep 26, 2025

The engine failed at 104,000 miles despite proper maintenance. The vehicle is used by my wife and three children, and the engine unexpectedly experienced a head gasket failure while on the highway, with no prior warning except for a known issue acknowledged by Chrysler. I am now faced with the costly repair of replacing the engine. As a family relying on this vehicle for daily needs, including school and work commitments, I am disappointed that such issues persist in this model despite widespread reports of similar problems.

Sep 15, 2025

I have written about repeated issues with Auto Start/Stop on this vehicle. Prior dealers have not been able to isolate the problem. Some of the problems seem to mimic a much earlier issue that went to court but did not happen during the timeframe of the class action suit. The prior submission to NHTSA was with this tracking number: 11681967 . I am now submitting repair information that aligns with my complaint of the Auto/Start stop on this vehicle. I am submitting this because it helps to support my earlier submission. Thank you

The vehicle jerks or hesitates to shift into gear when I get near 35 mph. It is forceful and loud. Somewhat like initial jerk pulling off from a roller coaster. My safety and the safety of my children have been at risk because slow moving vehicles are a hinderance to the flow of traffic. I have almost been rear-ended several times as the speed limit has increased in an area and I can't increase my speed as quickly as others behind me. Also, the delayed acceleration with the force of the jerk causes me to move forward too fast. This seems to be a transmission problem that all of the dealers in the area try to ignore. They claim they cannot reproduce the error but it happens each time I drive it. The vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, nor insurance representatives as I have not YET had an accident from this safety issue. There were no warning signs when the issue first appeared. I first noticed it the day after purchasing it from Westgate Chrysler Jeep Dodge RAM, 6421 Old Westgate Rd, Raleigh, NC 27617. I reported the issue to them within days of noticing and brought the vehicle in several times for troubleshooting. I have since switched servicing over to Crossroads Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Henderson. They recognized that my batteries were both dying and replaced both of those. That never stopped the jerking/hesitating, it just made it less intense. I brought it into that dealership as well for this issue several times and they cannot reproduce the issue either. I have searched online for solutions and on a Pacifica forum online, many other owners note this issue with low mileage on their vehicle. This is indeed a manufacturer issue that it seems the manufacturer wants to cover up and dealers have no solution for it because of this.

The contact owns a 2018 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated that while driving approximately 30 MPH, the vehicle stalled. The contact had to press the PUSH-to-Start button several times for the vehicle to restart. The contact stated that the lights were out on the gear shifter. The driver was able to shift to park and then continued driving. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with a corroded wire in the active grill shutter system. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The contact replaced the battery. The manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to the local dealer and also the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.

Check engine light came on the day after the automatic start/stop light came on. Engine code read cylinder 4 misfire. We switched all the spark plugs and changed the cylinder 4. A couple days later check engine light came back on brought the vechile into Bergstrum. They put in a name brand cylinder 4 plug and spark plug, 2 weeks later the light came back on, same exact issue. They are now claiming it’s an engine issue potentially. Sounds like this is a BIG problem for 2018 Chrysler pacificas.

Aug 21, 2025

The transmission KICKS into 2nd gear at times and it feels like I've been rear ended. Also sometimes when that happens the car will accelerate on it's own, I am surprised that I haven't hit anything or anybody when that happens. And other times it will cut out altogether and loses power. This is definitely a safety issue. I can't understand why Chrysler will not do anything about this issue. It can be very dangerous. This has been going on for the 4 years that I have had the van.

Aug 20, 2025

Auto start/stop alarm displays in dash. Have taken it to two different dealerships and they say they can find no problem. They car hesitates when stepping on the gas. There have been incidences when the car stalls all together. We have now noticed that the issue is more prominent when the weather temperature is hot like over 90 degrees but especially if the temperature is over 100 degrees. Also just recently within past few weeks the car will stall but keeps going though you cannot accelerate, however, you do not lose steering ability. You have to pull off the road and shut the car down and restart it and then all components work properly. Again this is happening when weather temperatures run high. This has been an issue last year as well. I called Chrysler and got a Star Case # 91330213 but then we stopped having the problem. Most likely because it got cooler but we are having issues again this year now. What is interesting is that the dealerships say they cannot find any code being set off because at times the auto start/stop alarm will reset and then they say they do not see an issue. Yet we know there has been an issue & continues to be an issue.

While slowing to a stop at a traffic light, the engine stalled unexpectedly. The start/stop system did not restart the engine when I released the brake pedal. Accessories (radio, lights, etc.) remained powered, but I could not shift the vehicle into neutral. After approximately 20 minutes, I was able to restart the engine; however, the transmission remained unresponsive and the engine could not be shut off using the ignition button. I was unable to shift to neutral or turn the steering wheel. Message on dash indicated shifter module required service, and indicated that the vehicle was not in park when attempting to turn off vehicle. The vehicle was only turned off by disconnecting the 12-volt battery. The vehicle was towed to a Chrysler dealership and diagnostics completed, showing error codes with the shift module. They were unable to recreate the problem and advised replacing the shift module. When inquiring about recall V53, the dealership service department indicated that this recall had been repaired on the vehicle in 2020. These symptoms match those described in Chrysler Recall V53 (NHTSA Campaign 19V-348) for 2017–2019 Chrysler Pacifica vehicles equipped with start/stop systems, which involves a loose battery ground connection. My VIN is not currently listed in the recall as it was reportedly corrected in 2020, but the issue created a hazardous situation by stalling in traffic, disabling shifting, and preventing engine shutdown. This could have resulted in a crash if traffic conditions were different. Please investigate whether additional 2018 Chrysler Pacifica vehicles not currently included in Recall V53 should be covered or if this is a recurring safety issue with the engine start-stop (ESS) on 2017-2019 Chrysler Pacifica vehicles.

Head gasket failure at a 107,000 miles.

Aug 7, 2025

This vehicle experience is intermittent installing or fails to restart after the engine shut down I verified there are currently no open recalls and I believe this may be related to a known PCM or emissions related issue

Jul 24, 2025

Coolant leak in cylinder 3 due to faulty head gasket. Based on the blogs, this is an issue with all Pacifica not just 2018. This requires a full engine replacement which most families cannot afford nor afford to replace the vehicle. If we keep driving it with this issue it becomes a safety issue. Quote is an $11,000 repair.

Jul 18, 2025 Fire

On Thursday, July 3, we were on our way out of town and had just gotten on a highway when I smelled something burning, saw smoke (we thought was steam at the time) coming from the hood and heard the engine making a grinding, or rattling noise so we pulled over immediately. My husband got out of the car to start to take a look when another vehicle who had just passed us backed up and motioned frantically saying “Your car is on fire!” So we got out and looked under the front of the car and sure enough, there was liquid spilling onto the ground and fire coming from underneath. So we quickly got away from the car and called 911. Another gentleman who had been going West also stopped to make sure everyone was okay and was also calling 911. Within 10-14 minutes the front of the car was totally engulfed in flames.

Vehicle engine shuts off while driving down the road. Will start up after a few minutes. Traction control light and auto start stop light will come on. Random right wheel noise will come and go. Have had multiple mechanic shops check vehicle with no findings. Vehicle loses all power when shuts down.

My 2018 Chrysler Pacifica has confirmed internal engine damage—scoring in the cylinder wall—diagnosed by an authorized Chrysler dealer. This occurred with no abuse or neglect, and the failure is consistent with many documented reports involving the 3.6L Pentastar engine. Chrysler is aware of premature failures in this engine across various models, but has denied goodwill assistance in my case despite providing it in others. I have involved the Washington State Attorney General’s office (File #[XXX]), and I believe this should be part of a broader investigation into systemic engine defects that pose safety and financial risks to consumers. Recurrent intermittent power steering failure and intermittent engine stall. Steering wheel gets stuck when turning right while driving at speed on highway. Steering wheel gets very heavy and requires some force to get it back to center. If I let go of the steering wheel, it would stay in the same position until I move it back. When driving at slower speeds, usually when navigating around turns or roundabouts, the engine will stall and then drastically jolt into gear. Two different mechanics have not been able to identify the root cause. They have checked alignment, electrical codes, and other potential issues without any answers. After research, I believe I am experiencing similar issues as detailed in the Safety Recall V53 / NHTSA 19V-348 Power Steering Assist. My VIN was not included in the recall , but I believe my car is showing similar concerns. I have requested a local Chrysler dealer look into this issue specifically and I have an upcoming appointment.

Check engine light and auto start/stop function stopped while vehicle began to run rough and slow approximately one week ago on my way home from work. BARELY accelerated to 25 on my way home. Nearly got hit as it did happen in traffic. Took it to Auto Outlet Service Yard for diagnostic purposes. Mechanic stated blown head gasket and needs new motor estimate 4500 dollars only had vehicle 6 months get oil change regularly, drive to and from work and school only.

Jun 12, 2025

The oil filter housing was poorly designed and leaks on virtually every one of these vehicles.  Thus causing engine failure and breakdown which may lead to potential serious harm to travelers as our family suffered.  After more than a year of research talking to mechanics and Chrysler owners and service personnel, I have come to aa clear understanding:  This Oil Filter housing should have been recalled.  Subsequently,  in later models engineers changed the oil housing manufacturing from a plastic to metal application, to a metal to metal application.  Simply put, the expansion ratios of metal and plastic are measurably different,  thus the OFH leaks with time due to heat and cold temperature  fluctuations. our Breakdown happened on [XXX] and I have been talking to Chrysler and there personnel since that time, with no help. This is a dangerous over sight! There is much more to this story that I will disclose upon request. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Head gasket needing replacement due to cylinder 5 misfire at 7 years/55,000 miles. This appears to be a defect in the engine for this year and 2019 year. I am willing to be a named defendant if there is an opportunity to go after Chrysler for this as they are offering no assistance for this known defective engine.

I had my Chrsyler Pacifica since Nov 2018 . Recently I heard a noise and Dealer suggested change in Transmission . Ever since I have problem with Car stopping im middle of road , towed 5 times to dealer and dealer says he fixed it but still same problem with vehicle stalling happen. yesterday (05/20), delaer informed that vehicle stalled in road while they did test drive after they fixed the problem. I am scared to drive this car anymore. Dealser did not want to loan their car as well anymore , I am without car for more than 30 days during this all 5 incidents .

The oil filter housing adapter is made of plastic. They frequently break and mix the coolant and oil, leak oil out of the system and into the heads. This is a known problem and engineering solution of an aluminum housing has been made. They should recall this part and replace or reimburse for people who have had to do this already.

Brought Pacifica into the dealer because of "check engine" light. Car had some shaking too upon startup. There was also some "ticking" sounds in the dashboard. Dealership told me that the head gasket of the first (and likely third) needed to be replaced. There was an engine 3 misfire per diagnostics. I was quoted at $4,600 for the repair. This appears to be a known issue, as the dealer said "we don't know if this will turn into a recall." There seems to significantly similar issues all over the Pacifica message boards.

May 3, 2025

My car wasn’t driving properly (2024) so I brought it to a Chrysler dealer in Mt Juliet TN. They did some cylinder work for $2300. The vehicle had approx. 85000 miles on it. The check engine light came on again at about 90000 miles (2025) so I brought it to Christian Brothers in Mt Juliet TN and they did spark plug work for $1700. The check engine light came on immediately after and the same auto mechanic said it was the head gasket. I brought it to Car Max in Nashville TN to sell it but they didn’t offer enough and said the error code indicated a cylinder misfire.

May 2, 2025

Major engine damage at 83,000 miles (blown head gasket). Vehicle was well maintained. It seems that this is common issues with the Chrysler Pacificas.

Apr 28, 2025

Leading up to the failure the smell of coolant was noticeable after driving the van. Coolant reservoir never showed a drastic decrease in coolant but I would top minimally every 6-8 months. I took the van to 3 different shops stating that I smelled coolant with zero evidence of a leak. System was tested and found not be leaking coolant at each shop and recommend continue to drive the vehicle. At 61,000 miles CEL came on with code P0305. Code was for a misfire in cylinder 5. CEL ended up going away only to come back a few days later. Engine never displayed any signs of overheating and consistently runs at a normal operating temp according to the onboard display. Inspection showed coolant pooling in cylinder 5 and wear on the camshaft. Oil changes completed every 3k miles and the recommendation from shop was to put in a new engine in a car 1K beyond the warranty. Reading numerous posts suggests that this is a continued issue that Chrysler doesn't want to take ownership for on their products.

Apr 23, 2025

Vehicle starting having some issues on startup. Check engine light came on and immediately took it in to the local shop to have it inspected. The HEAD GASKET had gone bad--while not fully blown it was leaking coolant into the cylinder and would have left us stranded on the side of the road with our three little kids if it completely failed when we were out and about.

Apr 23, 2025

Engine has 85000 miles on it and has never missed an oil change or service. Car has never overheated, but a check engine light has come on for a misfire in cylinder 6. Dealership indicates there is a blown head gasket and pitting on the engine. This car is too new to have such significant engine problems and it looks like it is a very common occurrence.

Apr 12, 2025

I am writing to express my deep concern regarding a critical design flaw in my 2018 Chrysler Pacifica that resulted in a severe overheating incident on the highway. I have experienced a sudden and dangerous failure wherein my vehicle’s coolant drained rapidly, causing the engine to overheat within minutes of driving under normal conditions. Below, I address key questions related to the malfunction: Component/System Failure and Inspection Availability: The core issue appears to be a malfunction within the engine cooling system, directly linked to a problematic head gasket design. I have inspected the affected system and component by a qualified independent service center at your request. Safety Risk: Although my vehicle did not exhibit any warning lights or alerts prior to the incident, the rapid onset of overheating posed an immediate danger. This unexpected failure could have resulted in a catastrophic engine failure, thereby placing me, my passengers, and other road users at significant risk. Confirmation of the Issue: Despite strict adherence to routine maintenance, the problem has been confirmed by a independent service center. Their inspections indicate that this is not a result of neglect but likely a consequence of a fundamental design flaw which appears to be a common issue with this van and previous years with remediation. Third-Party Inspections: While the manufacturer has not yet conducted a formal inspection, independent service centers have reproducibly identified the problem. I am open to any further investigations by Mopar. Previous years have same issue with extended warranty and repair being paid for at no cost to the owner, as this is not new it needs fixed Warning Indicators: Prior to the overheating incident, there were no warning lamps, messages, or alerts to indicate any potential issue with the cooling system. The situation escalated unexpectedly from normal operating conditions to a significant problem within a few minutes on the highway.

Apr 8, 2025

The vehicle randomly stalls, goes dead and becomes unresponsive. This has happened numerous times at lights, stop signs and in the middle of the road.

Apr 7, 2025

While driving the engine light came on. I have had the van 5 months at this time. I took it to the dealership where they diagnosed it with a crack in the block. I have extended warranty, BUT the service advisor told them that this is a common issue with these vehicles and they see it all the time. NOW, my warranty denied the claim to do "MANUFACTURER DEFECT". Of course they back peddled and told warranty that it was due to a piston or detonation, TOO LATE, warranty will not cover it. Chrysler sent out an engineer who stated it was not a manufacture defect and that my warranty should cover it. Which they won't because all they heard was "MANUFACTURE DEFECT". My van has less than 100,00 miles on it and now I have no van. I can't afford the 12K for the motor and the 21K I still owe one it. Come on CHRYSLER do better for us!

Apr 1, 2025

At startup there has been a noticeable misfire, and a rough start condition. Check engine light came on shortly after buying it (used) with a P0305 code and low coolant was observed - Cylinder 5 misfire. Sparks plugs were replaced and coil was swapped and there was an immediate difference in it running better and less of a noticeable misfire. few weeks later check engine light comes back on and noticed there was a drop again in coolant levels. Topped off coolant and re-checked everything and P0305 code returned. Code has been intermittent but just got it into a shop for further investigation and found a new head was needed where this is a common problem in shops and Chrysler is now recommending to have the head replaced as part of this fix due to problems on their end. Shop it's at won't take the risk of a head replacement, and we'll likely have to go through the dealer. There was previously a class action lawsuit that closed in 2022 to cover this issue. This needs to be a recall or further action needs to be taken before this leaves someone stranded in a dangerous situation - likely when the auto start stop can't restart a vehicle at an intersection due to rough start.

The contact owns a 2018 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated while driving 25 MPH, several unknown warning lights Illuminated. The message to “Pull over and turn off Vehicle” was displayed on the instrument panel. The contact pulled over to the right side of the road and the vehicle lost motive power and stalled. The contact was able to restart the vehicle after several minutes; however, the message remained displayed while driving to the residence. The dealer was contacted; however, the dealer informed the contact that the VIN was not under recall. The contact stated the failure reoccurred on several occasions. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer to be diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 89,000.

At approximately 78,000 miles and just over 6 years old, my vehicle experienced a blown head gasket and potentially a warped engine head. The estimated repair cost for this issue is over $7,000. Chrysler really need to look at their quality issue, I will never buy a Chrysler product again.

Our vehicle is always kept in a garage and rarely parked outside for extended periods of time (not a vehicle used for transportation to and from work on a daily basis). We had our check engine light come on. This resulted in us using our second vehicle for several days before determining days later that the check engine light was still on. We took it in and they said the stored code was for a small evap leak and said it was likely due to cold temperatures and ice build up around the edge of the vent that blocked the flap from opening. As mentioned, this vehicle was in a garage for several days leading up to the check engine light appearing and for several days after the initial appearance. When I asked the dealership doing the repair what we could do to prevent this from happening again they suggested we avoid having the vehicle parked outside in the cold. This seems to be an issue that should be handled by Chrysler as opposed to me as the consumer and causing me to pay $217.31!

The contact owns a 2018 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated while driving 30-35 MPH, the vehicle made an abnormal beeping sound. The message "Stop Safely - Vehicle will shut off soon" was displayed, and the vehicle stalled. Several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The contact was able to pull over to the side of the road. The vehicle was able to restart, and the contact continued driving. The contact stated that the failure had previously occurred while her husband was driving at an undisclosed speed. The contact's husband was able to pull to the side of the road, and the vehicle was able to restart after an extended period. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed as a low voltage failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Action Number: PE22008 (Power Train). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 73,692.

Our 2018 Pacifica after only 77K rough miles has a blown gasket and a misfire in cylinder 3. The safety concern is that my family bought this van and are the original owner with the safety standards in mind. We have a 6 year old and a 3 year old. we have had this van since our first born was born. a possible blown engine is a safety issue and wouldn't expect this with such low miles. Vehicle was inspected by the dealer and coolant was found in cylinder 3. the only indication that we had got was the check engine light coming on and then after we made sure the gas cap was on, we ran some fuel cleaner to see if it was a fuel injector issue and the light went away. when my wife used the key fab to start the vehicle, it wouldn't start and the engine light appeared. we took it to the dealer at that point once we had autozone scan the codes. we then learned it could be a gasket or needing plugs and wires replaced. Dealer reviewed and used a camera to see that there was coolant leak. this issue continues to impact many of these vehicles and nothing is being done.

Blown head gasket and leaking coolant at 65,000 miles with regular maintenance. $6000 repair quotes.

Cylinder 3 keeps failing and head gasket keeps failing. Have had to replace the head gasket 3 times now over the last 6 months. This last time it lasted 6 weeks. Code was P105D.

While driving on the freeway, the van suddenly started to ‘drag’ and alarm that the start/stop system was unavailable. I was barely able to pull off the freeway before the van completely stopped moving and would not start up again.

The head gasket appears to be leaky. Misfire in cylinder 3. routine fluid maintenance and never over heated. Appears to be a common issue with this engine.

Dec 19, 2024

Our 2018 Chrysler Pacifica had a check engine light come on and we immediately took it to get it checked out. The mechanic said that it had a cylinder 5 misfire that would require a new engine. Our Pacifica only has 68,000 miles on it. The vehicle never over heated and we did routine maintenance by the manufacture recommendations. Our extended warranty is denying the claim due to coolant leaking into the cylinder. We have never had any issues or overheating. This looks like a faulty design. We have been told this is a very common thing in Pacifica's from the years 2017-2021. I would like someone to please investigate the engine issues in the Chrysler Pacifica.

Dec 18, 2024

Water pump is leaking with white smoke came out from the engine bay under hood. I immediately checked the reservoir and it was empty. I took pictures and consulted with my friend who is a mechanics who confirmed the findings being due to water pump leak. I confirmed with a pressure test. Had I not noticed, it would’ve listed to other serious problems.

The engine was unresponsive and made it difficult to pull into the oncoming traffic. We found out the head gasket was blown and it finally just shut down. Then after we fixed that the lifters and heads were gone even after we had the heads milled and got new gaskets and other parts amounting to $11000.00 so far. We have this car for two years and we have put less that 5000 miles on the car.

Nov 29, 2024

There was a rough idle and tje the check engine light came on, idle smoothed out and the the following week the check engine light started blinking and the van started to miss and then drove rough. Then I took the van to dealer and they said it seemed that I have a cracked head after I received engine code for misfire on cylinder 3... sounds like this is a growing issue for this van and engine type.. Thank You for any help with this situation.

I bought my 2018 Chrysler Pacifica limited about two years ago. It’s been the worst decision I’ve ever made. I have just about a 3% rate and with the amount of issues these things have I’m so far upside down it’s not even funny. This car with all of its known issues is depreciating faster than I can pay for it. I currently have about 129,000 miles on it. I couldn’t get rid of this thing if I tried. The Chrysler dealership I service it with said they would give me 4000.00 IF they were willing to buy it back. The engine build company my mechanic uses says they won't even build these engines at all because of how many issues they have. So no option other than to buy the exact same engine is has now through Chrysler and know it will do it again. I’m having stalling/accelerating issues (shop can’t figure it out, kids cry when it stalls in traffic.. I've been in for it about 9 times to two different place) Oil cooler housing unit replaced last year (taken it back in a few times for ongoing leak, now need a head gasket) Head gasket Batteries galore Ongoing start stop issues My AC went out the month I bought it (leak in the lines near the rear) 3000k to fix The shop says it needs lifters, cam shafts and rockers (might as well do the engine if I had the extra money after paying off the rest of the repairs) My heated and cooled seats have stopped working numerous times Dash comes on and off when it wants Back up camera stays on the screen while I drive as much as it doesnt My rear washer fluid sprays INSIDE the car onto my kids Rear power seats stopped working multiple times now Get in to head to work and it just won’t start…. Have to basically play a video game with the controls and key fob to miraculously start it up Starting to rust already We have owned 2 Durango’s, 2 dodge rams, a Chrysler Sebring and now this. Clearly we support Chrysler but after this my husband switched to a ford truck and I will be going back as soon as I can if this isn't resolved.

Nov 15, 2024

[XXX] [XXX] [XXX] National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Office of Defects Investigation 1200 New Jersey Avenue SE Washington, DC 20590 Subject: Complaint Regarding Recurrent Mechanical Issues and Potential Safety Concerns with 2018 Chrysler Pacifica Dear NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation, I am writing to formally report repeated mechanical issues with my 2018 Chrysler Pacifica (VIN [XXX] ), which have raised significant concerns regarding the vehicle’s reliability and safety. In 2023, my vehicle initially experienced a persistent ticking noise in the engine, leading to extensive repairs. These included replacing the tappets, rockers, and timing chain tensioner on the right bank of the engine. Following these repairs, the vehicle exhibited low oil pressure, ultimately requiring a complete long block replacement. These issues left the vehicle out of service for nearly two months, significantly disrupting our daily lives. Despite these major repairs, my Pacifica has recently developed overheating issues, necessitating the replacement of the radiator at an estimated cost of over $2,000. The vehicle has less than 60,000 miles, and I find it deeply concerning that such critical mechanical issues are occurring at such low mileage. These repeated failures suggest a potential underlying defect in the design or manufacturing of this vehicle, which could present a safety risk. An overheating engine, for instance, poses a potential hazard both to the occupants and to other road users. As a police officer and parent of three young children, I rely on this vehicle for my family’s safety and transportation. I respectfully request that the NHTSA investigate whether these issues are indicative of a broader defect in 2018 Chrysler Pacifica models. I believe an investigation could help identify potential safety risks to other owners and encourage Chrysler to address these problems proactively INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Nov 14, 2024 Crash

The hybrid battery coolant heater (part 68443445AC) was confirmed a problem, however the dealership wont review ANY recalls on my vehicle until I pay $1700 to replace that part. However, there are MULTIPLE incidents online showing this is a problem with this vehicle and should be a recall as this is obviously defective within the first 150000 miles. My car has roughly 124K miles, making it just outside the warranty coverage. Shortly before this lamp warning (check engine) came on my steering wheel started "sticking" making it hard to steer in a curve, causing me to veer off the road. Within 7 days of this happening, is when my check engine light appeared, throwing code POE15. The heat now also takes much longer to warm up- like 30 minutes longer. The dealership said none of the issues are connected, however after online research I have determined that is not true.

Nov 9, 2024

An engine fault code for P0303 has become active on my 2018 Pacifica. This code was confirmed by an independent service center and confirmed that the code is active. The service center ran a compression test and showed that cylinder three is low on compression. They then ran a hydrocarbon test and confirmed exhaust in the coolant. This diagnosis points to the common issue related to a bad head gasket potentially due to a warped head/block. The car has never overheated and all service maintained.

Vehicle just dies when you brake. This has now happened twice. Once in May 2024 and now Oct 2024. You have no steering and cannot be put into neutral or park. Must pull neutral cord to get pushed out of road. No codes pull up other than the neutral cord used. In May 2024 towed to dealer and they replaced starter but could not find anything else. In Oct 2024, took it to an independent car place and he could not find anything wrong, just re-boot computer. This is very dangerous; this is a handicap van modified for a wheelchair person to be put in through the back of the van. If I get hit in the back, I can't get my son out of the van. Extremely unsafe! I know the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica's were recalled for this and I believe the powertrain control module software was updated or the chip was replaced. This needs to be recalled for the 2018's also.

Engine code misfire cylinder #3 and losing coolant. Took it to the mechanic who diagnosed it has a failed head gasket and coolant leaking into the cylinder. Vehicle had 85,000 miles at the time.

Oct 16, 2024

Misfire code on cylinder 1. Pulled the coil and plug and replaced, cleared code. Code returns in a matter of days. Then engine temp hot flashes during a short drive, so I purchase approved OAT coolant and fill it back up. Happens again three weeks later. Then two weeks later. Have local mechanic replace coolant pump and thermostat thinking that might do the trick. It doesn't. Issues return in a week. Mechanic can find no coolant leak and says the only thing that makes sense is a blown head gasket. I browse Chrysler forums and see that this is a common issue. No recall as of yet.

In April of 2022 my dash engine check light went on, as well as my start stop. Van was running rough and coolant missing. Chrysler fixed seals, gaskets. In July of 2024, 3000 before warranty ended, the same thing, Chrysler fixed. As of today October 10, 2024, the same dash lights and coolant missing. Now I am over 100,000 warranty. they just fixed this issue. Looking at Technical Service Bulletins and thousands of Chrysler forum complaints report the same issue. Despite two warranty fixes almost 10,00 in 15 months, the same issue continues. In 2024 this past fix Chrysler said this on the phone, Failed leak and combustion test. Cylinder head gasket has gone. Cylinder itself. Cylinder one. Misfire but not as bad. Checking the cylinder wall. Seems odd. Really inspecting the cylinder wall. Odd it would come back odd a year later. Not sure what he is going to find. They can do it tomorrow unless more. When my husband called today all they said was payment is on us of it is not the same thing but did not day to was we did this 3 months ago. I took my van to auto zone after same dash lights went on and they read the code, misfire cylinder one

2018 Chrysler Pacifica Touring L+ with 59,300 miles on it that we bought new from the dealer with a blown head gasket needing replacement of cylinders 3 and 4. We are outside the powertrain warranty. We got a check engine light [XXX] and found code p-0303 (cylinder 3 misfire). We were fortunate enough to get it to the dealer the very next day. It failed the engine block test and we were informed that the head gasket had blown and needed replacement. They also recommended replacing cylinders 3 and 4. This cannot be the expected lifespan of this engine or car. Searching forums on the internet and unfortunately it is a common problem with pacifica's and other vehicles with the pentastar 3.6L engine. We are averaging <10,000 miles per year, did not drive it aggressively, and got regular maintenance on it. This seems like obvious premature failure of the engine. Chrysler wanted $8200 for the parts and labor to fix it. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Oct 1, 2024

I have a 2018 Chrysler Pacifica with 50k miles and it is still covered under the powertrain warranty. 1. I had a check engine light with code as "misfire on cylinder 6" in August of 2024. I had all spark plugs and engine coils replaced. 2. I drove the vehicle for one week before the engine light came back on with the same code, and then the vehicle wouldn't start. It was towed to a dealer. 3. A dealer replaced the starter assembly and valve body. 4. I drove the vehicle for 2 days before the engine light came back on with code as misfire to a different cylinder. 5. I am now being told by the dealer that I need to replace both cylinder heads, both cylinder head gaskets, timing cover gaskets, valve cover gaskets, valve cover gaskets and the coil boots (again) because they were ruined the the failure/leaks in the other parts.

Sep 28, 2024

The check engine light recently came on, and there was an issue with starting and idling, so we replaced the battery and the light went off, but would randomly come back on. One day notice the vehicle as overheating, and found the coolant tank to be completely empty. Refilled the tank, and several days later the problem arose again. Checked under the van immediately after refilling, no leaks detected. Took van to the dealership and was told the head gasket was bad, and the coolant was leaking into cylinder 3. Recommended repairs noted are as follows: “HEAD GASKET IS BAD. LEAKING ON CYLINDER 3. NEEDS A NEW HEAD AND GASKET TO FIX ISSUE. WILL ALSO NEED CAMS, LIFTERS, AND ROCKERS DUE TO THE TICKING COMING FROM THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE MOTOR” I’ve seen that apparently, this is a more than common issue specifically with the 2018 Chrysler Pacifica. Others have recommended a total engine replacement, as the damage caused thus far is significant enough that replacing only the head and gasket would be, as quoted, “a very expensive bandaid.” This is the only vehicle we have available for my wife and four small kids, and to see that it’s such a common and, thus far ignored problem is infuriating to say the least. Vehicle was purchased 2 years ago, and has depreciated $21,000 in that short amount of time. Repairs are estimated around $6000. Vehicle value is estimated around negative $12,000, so we’re stuck with a faulty vehicle regardless. With the overwhelming number of complaints regarding this issue, almost verbatim, there is absolutely no reason Chrysler should continue to be allowed to let this go unresolved. The fact that the vehicle depreciated so rapidly in such a short time span should be a testament in and of itself to the known and perceived quality of these vehicles, and if ever I can be rid of it, it’ll be that last Chrysler product I ever own.

76,115 and my head gasket is blown. After researching, I found that there are more than over 1000 people with the same issue. Dealership says they can do nothing. Chrysler of America says they have no resolution either. This is ridiculous that so many people are having the issues with low miles on their vans. Something has to be done. I'm not sure why there is not a recall already (because Chrysler won't accept the fact that they messed up). People don't have money to replace the head gaskets and/or replace heads or even engines. Please help.

Sep 25, 2024

The vehicle has stalled several times while driving and while at a stop light leaving the van completely disabled and it will not turn on or start again. My wife and 2 year old were put at risk when the vehicle stalled on them at a major intersection and my wife was unable to put the vehicle into parking or drive since there was no power after it stalled and dashboard lights flicked on and off multiple times.. Stall has also happened at drive thru almost causing collision with vehicle in front. The stall produces dashboard error messages reporting an internal transmission malfunction, auto start/stop error, and or a problem charging the battery. Certified ASE mechanics can’t reproduce the issue or find anything to pin point the issue after multiple diagnostic tests ran and physical thorough inspection. Every time a stall happens loads of error codes (85+) pull up but none point to the root cause of stalling happening. Vehicle has most up to date software update done over a year ago.

Cylinder head gasket failure: known to be a common failure in the Pentastar 3.6L engine. Repair in thousands, and may not be a solution as the engine block may warp due to failure preventing a proper seal with the cylinder head. The number of cases of this failure is alarming and should really be considered a proper consumer risk.

Sep 12, 2024

At just over 100K miles, vehicle had check engine light come on (P303) indicating cylinder #3 mis-fire. After replacing spark plugs did not resolve the issue, further diagnosis from mechanic revealed leaking of coolant into cylinder #3 as the cause of the miss-fire. This is further borne out by the rough starts when cold followed by more smooth operation once the coolant is burned off. Research on-line shows that this failure is common in Chrysler Pacifica rather than a one-off incident. Leaking of coolant into the engine not only puts the engine (and therefore vehicle occupants) at risk but also damages the catalytic converter which can have an impact on the environment.

Purchased vehicle used and have put on miles. But since day 1 issues have been arising. First the Auto stop/start function stopped, 2 years later still unable to find the fix. More recent the gear shift just doesn’t work/turn on randomly or turns off while driving which is a safety concern. Now for the past 2 months the gear shift will not work or while driving the vehicle just loses acceleration and braking and slows to a stall and I can’t do anything until the gear shift turns back. I had 3 children on [XXX] when this started putting all our lives in danger. We were stuck for 2 hours the vehicle ran but was not drivable. Every mechanic says something different and it is a luck of the draw if the vehicle will work when you try it. Batteries all tested good. No obvious other issues other than loss of power steering for a short time. All warning lights flashing on and off randomly but it coincides with the loss of driving capabilities. I just want to be done with this vehicle it’s dangerous and now I’m stuck with it. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

2018 Pacifica with multiple similar issues. August 2018 - Recall - Reprogram Powertrain Control module May 1019 - Recall fixes (Power steering and ball joint). July 2021 - start/stop light came on - took to dealership and they replaced the battery for that system. Feb 2022 - Recall customer satisfaction notification 1 Y65 July 2022 - ISSUES begin - Cylinder misfire - and car would not start and was smoking. Van was towed to dealership. The dealership had the van for 2 months and had a difficult time really diagnosing the issue. They ended up replacing the right Cylinder head - which is a major part of the engine. Just being over the 60,000 mile mark, we had to fight with Chrysler to honor the warranty on this very expensive fix. Spark plugs were also changed at that time. August 2024 - check engine light is back on, as well as the automatic start/stop button. We took to Auto zone and the diagnosis was Cylinder 6 misfire. All along we have felt there should have been a recall on this van. Is it an electrical issue that is failing? Searching online there are a lot of these complaints about Cylinder misfiring issues with this year/model. It also looks like there may have been a class action lawsuit as well. A 4 year old van should not need a major engine repair. Now here we are 2 years later with a 6 year old van and having a similar issue. We are worried it is going to be another costly fix. We have had nothing but issues with this van and it is unacceptable, especially regarding a brand new car. We have all our receipts indicating appropriate and timely oil changes and transmission flushes, etc from the dealer.

Aug 21, 2024

We had a cylinder 6 misfire which caused the engine to stop working. Our car would not start. There were no warning lamps, messages or any other symptom of the problem. We had just had the car serviced and there were no visible issues. We are now told by Chrysler that they have to replace the entire engine. They want to put in the same model of the engine that just randomly stopped working.

Cylinder 5 misfire confirmed coolant leak and head gasket failure by certified mechanic. 103k miles. Always maintained according to recommended schedule. Never overheated. Possible sudden engine failure is absolutely a safety concern leaving me and my family stranded. $6000 repair needed.

Aug 2, 2024

At 93500 miles, the check engine light came on. I immediately had it checked by my mechanic and the code was identified as a P301, (Cylinder 1 misfire.) Service was scheduled. At time of service, it was determined that the cylinder head gasket has failed and is leaking coolant into the cylinder, causing the misfire. I have given the shop approval to replace both cylinder head gaskets at an estimated cost of $4500. Loss of coolant can cause catastrophic engine failure, especially while driving. This vehicle is sold as a family vehicle, and can likely be transporting children. This appears to be a known and common engine failure issue and has not been addressed by the Chrysler corporation.

The contact owns a 2018 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated the Auto STOP/START light and head gasket light remained illuminated. While starting the vehicle, the vehicle was vibrating abnormally. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed a leak in the head gasket. While inspecting the vehicle, the dealer became aware of a hole in the engine, and that the engine and head gasket needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and opened a case number. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was 92,000.

We purchased our 2018 Chrysler Pacifica in October 2023. It had 72,000 miles at the time of purchase. My wife was driving with our kids when the misfiring happened. This is clearly a safety issue as my children and wife don't feel safe in it. About two weeks ago, the check engine light came on and I took it to AutoZone to get the code checked out and then went to a mechanic. Upon inspection and diagnostics. He said the head gasket was blown and that a new engine was needed. We are currently sending the oil out to get tested for coolant. There is currently less than 85k miles on the minivan, and on our first oil change a couple of months ago, we started using a full high mileage synthetic motor oil. We are incredibly disappointed that our minivan has such a huge problem that apparently is fairly common with this year and model.

Check engine light came on. Pulled code, cylinder 1 misfire. Service for spark plugs was already scheduled for 2 days later. Van parked awaiting service. Service performed, CEL off. Van runs as normal for about 1 day. CEL comes back on. Cylinder 1 misfire. Multiple messages display on instrument cluster. Service shifter. Start/Stop unavailable. Some inerior lights turning off then back on later. Similar to a previous issue with a failing battery. Replaced both batteries. Cleared codes. Van drives as normal for 1 afternoon. Next day hard start and rough idle. CEL on. Cylinder 1 misfire. Van operates normally once warm. Schedule follow up service for diagnostic. Next day, CEL off. Van operates as normal in the morning. Hard start in the afternoon with rough idle and CEL back on. Van runs rough tries to stall. Service shifter message returns. Start/Stop unavailable message returns. Parked van at home until service appointment. Day of service battery completely flat. multiple attempts at jumpstart finally get the van started. White smoke coming from exhaust mixed with smell of burning coolant. Notice coolant level has dropped in resevoir. CEL light is on, cylinder 1 misfire. Service messages. Tested battery voltage and alternator appears to be charging. Dropped van off with service. 2 days later report from dealer service department indicates leaking head gasket, and scoring of walls in cylinder 1 seen through endoscope. Recommendation is new motor. Van again requires jump start to relocate to our house. Van idles and drives rough. Using OBDII device and Torque app able to see that van has had over 1k misfires on cylinder 1. occasional misfires in other cylinders. Additional service appointment schedule with independent shop for second opinion on engine replacement. Van is unsafe to drive due to impending engine failure. which may result in crash.

I had had multiple incidents when the Van would get stuck in a gear or would lose the ability to accelerate. The passenger doors, specifically the right side passenger door would get suck and continuously open because it could not close. The rear view cameras would get stuck and after reverting to D it would stay on the screen for at least 5 min before switching back. The screen would also go blank. The van would also get stuck between gears or would shut off at a stop light. On this particular day I was driving and was starting to slowdown for the light signal. The van suddenly jolted and stopped completely. I tried to turn it on and it would not start. I was very lucky that the car behind me noticed me slowing down and did not hit the van. I tried to turn on the van and the electrical function would turn on but not the engine. Then after continuously trying to start it the gear function would not move. I also want to add that at the time of purchase the van was missing a air duct and I was not made aware of that. I was told by the dealer that it had active recalls but they were not able to fix the recalls because the engine would not start. It had an active recall for the flash software and for the start stop. Dealer tried to tell me it overheated, however this is false, there was no white smoke and no other indications that the van had overheated. I wasn't able to add that the electrical in the vehicle is a problem. The radio and screen would just go blank at times.

Jul 15, 2024

On 4 separate occasions the vehicle while in motion will flash an alert that states “vehicle shutting down, stop safely” and the van will proceed to completely shut down- all electrical components do not work, including the sliding doors. After 30-45 minutes, the can will start back up without issue. Has been evaluated by a Chrysler dealership mechanic, as well as 2 private mechanics. They have been unable to replicate the issue. The main and auxillary batteries have been replaced twice each. Each incident we were able to pull over safely and there have not been any injuries or crashes, but we are concerned if it happens and we can’t pull over, we could easily crash.

The check engine light came on in early May, and I immediately took it to our local mechanic. On [XXX], he told me we had a cracked cylinder head (attached quote). You can imagine my surprise! It’s a fairly new car. I just went on Google, and I found immediately a thread on the Pacifica forum where hundreds of families have had this problem. I just commented without expecting to get help, and I got a DM from Chrysler Cares (correspondence attached). They asked me to take it to a Chrysler dealer to confirm the diagnosis. The dealer reached out to me on May 28th with the bad news below. I said I would pick the car that afternoon. He informed me that if I drove the vehicle it would “catch on fire.” Quote below: Technician has completed diagnosis of vehicle. Found engine is burning coolant, coolant leaking into engine from headgaskets. Need to replace both left and right side headgaskets, cost for repair is $4334 plus tax. With this service also recommended to replace spark plugs additional $437, service throttle body $299, Service fuel injectors/rails $299, flush coolant in radiator and reservoir $299. Sincerely, Tony Pantagis Service Advisor Office 973-744-2000 ext 137 Fax 973-744-248 Email: [email protected] I immediately reached out to Chrysler Cares online. I also called the 800#again. It took MANY days to get anyone to get back to me, but finally I got a Case number. I explained my whole story on the telephone, and Chante said she would reach out to the dealer. After many days of back and forth phone tag, she called me on Friday, June 7 to say this would be referred to a Chrysler supervisor for one final review. I picked up my broken car from the dealer today and it is still not fixed. I still have no answer why a car with 60K miles would have a failed engine with no warning. Chrysler needs to recall these vehicles! INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

I own a 2018 Chrysler Pacifica with just 53k miles. Recently, after starting the vehicle, the dash board displayed a check engine light. When I took it to the dealership, they informed me the code was a P0305, which indicated a misfire in cylinder 5, caused by a blown head gasket and a coolant leak into the cylinder. AT 53,000 MILES! Their quote to repair the engine (which just sets the ticking time-bomb back to zero) is $5,000.

Had engine misfire and low coolant light come on. Towed to dealer. Engine did not overheat. Dealer found cracked head. Head was not made well. Disabled start stop feature and put van into “limp” mode where it would not start on the freeway. Safety concern.

May 31, 2024

Head gasket is leaking coolant into cylinder #5. According to the Chrysler forums, this seems to be a common problem. We are seeking to share this information so that the appropriate steps may be taken to commence a recall in order to service these vehicles. The safety of all drivers/passengers should be the pinnacle of this concern. We have 105, 000 miles on this vehicle and have experienced no other mechanical issues to this point.

Head gasket is blown with not that many miles, it's blowing fuses on a daily bases, start stop function won't work. Coolant leaks. Coils damaged, and lastly ac unit won't close properly and keeps making noise.

May 18, 2024

Licensed independent service center diagnosed that I have coolant leaking into cylinder 5 and that the head gasket is compromised and needs to be replaced. My vehicle only has 84k miles. No warning lights illuminated until I started to experience a shudder when starting the vehicle, shaky start and then the check engine light came on with a cylinder 5 misfire code. I noticed coolant was low and topped off. The vehicle has never indicated it was too hot, but I need to refill reservoir each time the vehicle is driven. I no longer feel safe driving my vehicle as a hot engine could cause failure while driving, leave us stranded in a vehicle with small children, or worse cause engine fire, accident, injury or death. I would never expect to have head gasket failure at such low mileage. I should be able to trust that an auto manufacturer can build a car that will last more than 84,000 miles without engine failure. Many people online are experiencing this same issue with large repair bills or engine replacements needed. I sincerely hope that a recall will be issued for this repair as it presents a safety issue.

-service engine light went on 2 weeks ago, intermittently. - escalated when engine began locking/ shuddering while driving and engine light began flashing. - had vehicle towed to the nearby dealership - dealer diagnosed it as a blown head gasket due to manufacturing defects. Dealer offered up that ‘they see this issue all the time’ with the 3.6L Pentastar engine. - dealer quoted $6000 for the repair but forewarned that the other head gaskets would likely fail as well because of the manufacturer defect. Quoted $9500 to replace both - dealer suggested replacing both head gaskets but also refused to confirm integrity of the engine block and all additional cylinders with micrometer measurements and pressure readings. - there is a known and frighteningly frequent breakdown of this engine in the Chrysler Pacifica. - complete engine failure should not be common place for a vehicle with less than 100,000 miles.

Car ran fine during morning drop offs with kids to school, approximately 10 miles away. Stopped in parking lot to help with school events, car cooled down for 2 hours and would not start. Tried to jump start the car, it did not work. Car was towed to the dealership where we found out that the engine had seized. Car has 107K miles on it . All maintenance performed at dealership on time.

Piston Number 3 is misfiring which is the from an error code. Replaced the piston 3 twice and now coolant is leaking into the engine which cause the coolant to leak into the engine. This is a safety risk since the car does not give a warning until there is no more coolant in the car which can cause a fire while driving. The issue was shown twice and confirmed by 2 independent mechanics and the dealership. The vehicle has been inspected and checked out by 2 independent mechanics and the dealership. It first appeared Feb 16 2024 when the check engine light came on and the next Monday the car lost coolant. The car also shook violently when it was started.

The engine overheated and the vehicle became with three children inside on a major New Jersey highway. This vehicle was advertised for families with kids, and appears to have a safety defect. The first sign something was wrong was when the check engine light came on; shortly after the vehicle became inoperable on the highway. We took the vehicle to several different mechanic shops, including the dealership, and we were told the vehicle has a major engine defect, either a blown head gasket or a total engine failure. The vehicle is currently at a Chrysler dealership being examined.

Purchased the car used in 2018. Worked fine. Always kept up with my oil changes. Car now over 72000 miles. Suddenly, noticed car would jerk while im driving. Was told engi e misfire. Had it fixed so i thought. After a while, happening again. Also, without any warning, suddenly coolant disappears somewhere in the car. Not coming out at all. And without warning, car overheats. Constantly filling with coolant. Engine light suddenly comes on. Blinking on and off. Now im in engine failure. Not in warranty. Checked several forums, tons of people with the SAME issue. Bad engine from Chrysler. My Supreme warranty is expired, i am single mother of three and cannot fix. Still financing this vehicle. Can anybody help me? I dont have thousands of dollars to fix this.

I keep getting a check engine light that reads as cylinder 5 misfire. I have replaced the spark plug and coil pack and it still will read as a cylinder 5 misfire. Often times when we start the van, it acts as if it has engine problems. I know this is very common in 2017-2018 Pacifica's and seems very unsafe. Something is wrong with the engines in those years of Pacifica's. I have had this check engine light read 4 times and 2 mechanics looked at it and replaced some parts to success.

The van auto shutoff during a stop in an intersection. The van did not turn back on when the pressure was released from the pedal. The engine was off and I was in the middle of the intersection. The gear shifter knob was unable to move to a different gear. After multiple attempts to restart the car were unsuccessful, the car finally restarted after cycling through the att, run, start menus without the brake being depressed and then pressing the break and pushing the start button. This vehicle has had the recall work performed related to this issue and the repair is insufficient. The stall is intermittent and difficult to repeat.

The #5 cylinder keeps having a misfire sometimes causing failure of the vehicle to get up and move when needed in an emergency Situation this being a family van make even putting children in danger at times. After inspection by myself a Mechanic that even taught College Automotive repair, I have also taught Jet engine repair I find this concerning. Is what is happening is the head gasket is leaking coolant into the #5 Cylinder and we all know water will not admit a spark. Rust can be seen on the Valves and top of Piston cylinder upon inspection. This is a well know issue across the United States and Chrysler Dealers and manufacturers, their mechanics, parts and service departments also know this. This is poor workmanship inferior parts. But the most concerning is not being able to get a response out of the vehicle to get out of the way in an emergency situation and that the owners of Chrysler Corporation do not care. With the cost the consumers paid for these Vehicles it should not have to fall on them due to the inferior parts and workmanship of the manufacturing Company. The Average Consumer cannot afford to fix this issue, and some are still paying for their Pacifica's Immediate action should be taken with this problem as many Babies, Children and adult lives are being put at risk. I would recommend to stop driving these vehicles immediately until the problem is resolved. Accident waiting to happen possibly causing bodily harm.

Received message that Start/Stop component was not working. A few weeks later, check engine light came on. Brought to mechanic, was told to replace main and auxiliary battery. Paid to replace those and two days later, got both the start/stop message and the check engine light again. Brought back to mechanic who, upon finding countless other consumers who have had the same issue, found a blown head gasket with coolant leaking into the engine. Our vehicle has only 44k miles on it and is at risk of overheating while driving and the engine may be damaged.

Jan 25, 2024

The check engine light came on and the vehicle experienced a slight loss of power. Later the Start/Stop indicator light cam on with a message saying it has malfunctioned. Upon driving the van continues to have issues going up hills and accelerating from a stopped position. The check engine light remains steady without blinking.

At 34k miles I’m being told the head gasket needs to be replaced and the car is out of warranty. This is unacceptable and refuse to pay the amount to fix for a vehicle that has that low of mileage. Coolant leaking with no visible leakage. Engine overheated on freeway with no explanation.

Jan 23, 2024

In Oct 2023 we purchased this van from a used dealership. Well now it sits at a Dodge dealership torn apart waiting on a new engine. It all started when my wife and kids were driving down the road in the middle of winter with no heat (safety issue especially in Wisconsin this time of year) so I took a look at coolant and noticed the coolant reservoir was empty. (Usually a leak somewhere obviously) nothing was on the ground, so time to assume internal leak. Well same day I get a cylinder 5 miss fire code. So I take vehicle into Dodge and they originally diagnosed as head gasket but when they took it apart they found the crack in the block. Now the vehicle had never overheated while we owned it we made sure of it. The story gets deep at this point there is evidence that someone before Dodge had this engine apart as they used RTV and reused the old gaskets ( probably cause they found the crack in the block) but now my wife and I sit with out the vehicle we bought 3 months earlier for 20k being told it's going to cost us 12k to replace engine. Now my complaint is why did this engine fail at 100,000? This is ridiculous. This is supposably a family vehicle and you are putting my family in danger. Dodge should let ok at this complaint seriously as I was reading hundreds of similar statements from other customers with 2018 Chrysler Pacifica 3.6L engine. There are most likely thousands of vehicles with this same issue as I'm on a waiting list to get an engine. So not only do I have to pay thousands to get my 3 month of ownership van back running but now I have to wait possibly months for a new engine.

My vehicle lost the ability to accelerate when driving on a busy two-lane street. I was able to coast to the side of the road, but the vehicle would not move forward or backward even though the engine was running. This was the fifth time this condition has occurred, and I had the 03A Loss of Motive Power recall service performed during Summer 2023. The vehicle had to be towed - luckily nobody was directly behind us so an accident did not occur. The vehicle is currently being evaluated by the dealership for further repair. The check engine light is illuminated, but no other warning lights are illuminated at this time.

Last year, a head gasket failed causing coolant to leak into the cylinder head that resulted in misfires and overheating. This resulted in engine block failure and a required a total engine replacement.

Blown head casket at only 64000 miles. Engine light on and antifreeze I’m told is leaking now. No warranty or recall with the 2018 Pacifica but there is for the same issue with the 2017.

Nov 20, 2023

oticed that the CEL had come on, and after reading the codes, I found out that there was a cylinder 5 misfire. To fix the issue, I decided to replace all the spark plugs and ignition coils, and after putting everything back together, I erased the codes. However, the following day, the same code appeared again, and I realized that the coolant level in the reservoir was low. I performed a pressure test on the system and ran it to temperature, but there were no coolant leaks. While the car was running, I observed bubbles in the reservoir, and these signs pointed towards a blown head gasket. After checking online for Pacifica common issues, I found out that head gasket failure is one of the main complaints. As a mechanic with 13 years of experience, I know that these symptoms indicate a blown head gasket. Unfortunately, due to this issue, I had to leave work twice as my wife and four kids were stranded 30 minutes away from the house. This is not acceptable, and I've never had a vehicle blow a head gasket before.

Nov 19, 2023

After radiator was replaced by the dealership, our car has been experiencing coolant leaks that we have “repaired” twice, however the issue keeps coming back within the week. We are also experiencing stalled engine will driving, where the car just slows down instantly or stops.

Also, the contact mentioned that the vehicle would jerk forward upon depression of the accelerator pedal without warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for a diagnostic test; however, the dealer was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. Failed cylinder head (misfire p0304). Need to have engine rebuilt or replaced. Also had oil cooler failure, losing coolant and oil. 71k miles, just over the 60k power train warranty. Need dealer to help fix but they are booked for next 3 months. Car initially cut out on the road in traffic after auto start stop, was scary and safety risk with family including kids onboard. Confirmed with independent mechanic, but also going to dealer as it is specialty work for that engine.

Coolant leaking into cylinder 4 causing a misfire and engine overheating resulting in blown head gasket. Vehicle had only 50K miles at the time; however problem was not diagnosed until just after 5 year mark (powertrain warranty expiration).

Oct 14, 2023

At around 84000 miles the engine light came on and the van started spattering and when you start it. The first place I took it to said it was cylinder 6 was misfiring and they replaced the coil and spark plug. The van check engine light came back on and it started to overheat so we took it back in and the coolant was empty. They refilled it and I got it into the dealership and they found that it was the head gasket so they placed it. Upon picking it up the check engine light came back on and they replaced a cam shaft sensor.

Oct 2, 2023

We could not locate an active coolant leak for almost two months (brought to several mechanics.) Added dye to the coolant and it showed in the oil. Waited over a month for an appointment with the dealership and was finally told that it was a bad Head/Head Gasket, Oil pump and would also need a new catalytic converter etc.... It is apparent from the chrysler forums that this is a VERY common problem. #5 cylinder, bad coolant channel design leading to engine failure. Even the mechanic at the dealership said (ON VIDEO) that this was a common issue. Chrysler is WELL aware of the issue but refuses to redesign or assist customers when the failure occurs. This is CLEARLY a safety issue that begs for a recall.

Sep 28, 2023

My van experienced sudden misfiring when I tried to start it. To address the issue, I took the van to the Chrysler dealership in Buford, GA. After their assessment, they informed me that cylinder 3 had a crack, and it necessitated the replacement of the entire engine. They provided a quote for this repair, which amounted to $13,000. I've been diligent in maintaining my van, regularly checking the oil levels, and there were no warning signs or indicator lights until the check engine light came on when the misfiring issue began. It's worth noting that my van only has 81,000 miles on it. While researching this problem, I came across a forum where numerous individuals shared similar experiences, indicating that this kind of catastrophic engine failure shouldn't be so common. Engine sputtering, engine light came on P0303 cylinder 3 misfire. Light would come on and off every couple of days. Diagnosed with a blown head gasket at ~51,000 miles.

Sep 19, 2023

We began having major issues with our van in October 2022. There were numerous incidents of loss of power and sudden increase in temperature gage. We kept fluids checked. Kept oil changed on time. We reported this to the dealership multiple times before they agreed to fix under warranty. Even after fixing factory recall (which we were charged for by the dealership) and then replacing batteries, we continued having issues with loss of power and surge in temperature gage. July 8th of 2023 engine light came on and temperature gage shot up, van stalled at the intersection. I had My self and FIVE kids in the car. This was accompanied by a sudden loss of fluids. We had the van taken to another repair shop who then told us the head gasket was blown. This happened just 4 miles after our warranty lapsed. We had to have the entire motor replaced out of pocket. More than $8,000 in repair costs so far and the van I still making noises and not driving correctly.

62000 miles on the vehicle. Bought used from Chrysler dealership with 55K miles. Check engine light came on after starting in morning, rough idling. Brought it to dealership and was diagnosed as cylinder-4 misfire. Dealership replaced spark plug and coil, switched fuel injectors. Drove away from dealership, week later engine light came on again. Went to the dealership, they performed a block test, confirmed 4th cylinder head needed to be replaced. This is an extremely common problem in 2017-2018 Chrysler Pacificas. This is a travesty and needs to be rectified.

Sep 5, 2023

Driving through a parking lot when the van said shift to park and completely shut off while moving. Lost power steering and acceleration. Car then would not restart. Husband came and we hooked to his battery and somehow it cranked and we got it home.

Aug 31, 2023

Our engine has stalled while driving the vehicle at least four times since July 1. The engine begins to shudder, and the car will not accelerate, and then the engine completely dies. After it happened today, it was not possible to restart the engine or put it in gear. My and my family's safety was put at risk because the vehicle was inoperable. Three times this happened on major interstates with traffic moving at high speeds. I had to move my children and their car seats into another vehicle while traffic passed. We have had the vehicle in for service at least three times, at least twice at Chrysler dealers. The problem has not been reproduced (yet) but this latest time it completely disabled the vehicle so expect they will see more of the problem now. After the engine cuts out, we get an electrical warning light that flashes briefly, plus a check engine light, and a message that instructs to move the gear shift to P to start the vehicle and another that warns that the Start/Stop system needs service. We have had these all serviced, the fuel pump and battery replaced, and have been told the problem is resolved and yet it keeps happening.

Vehicle is 5 years old and at 90,000 miles. Head gasket blew causing several thousand dollars in damage. This seemed very early to have to do this to the engine. I wanted to report in case this is a persistent issue with this particular model of car. If it is a consistent issue I would like to see. A recall issued.

Aug 25, 2023

My 2018 Chrysler Pacifica has a blown head gasket. It has been to a Chrysler dealership and an independent auto repair shop. Both places told me that this is a known defect and commonly occurring problem with this engine. I have conducted my own research and it definitely appears to be a known defect and common problem. I was told that the head gasket could be replaced but more problems would follow and paying the large repair bill wouldn't guarantee the van would be problem free. The best option I've been presented with is to replace the engine completely. It is very disappointing to need to replace an engine in a vehicle that is only 5 years old and just barely over 100k miles.

Cylinder 3 misfire, combustion gases in coolant, coolant consumption but no leak, probable failed head gasket

Aug 9, 2023

A blown head gasket (and possibly warped head) were causing a cylinder 3 misfire. The vehicle has only 70,000 miles and has had regular maintenance performed. It appears the motor design is faulty, likely causing a build up of heat in the engine compartment or internal to the motor resulting in blown head gaskets. This is apparently a common problem and Chrysler should develop a solution to handle the issue.

With this damage, the engine can stop at anytime risking all occupants especially if driving at higher speeds. This is a minivan intended to safely transport families. It has not been to the shop yet. There was first a fuel pressure sensor check engine code and then after that was fixed we scanned the stats few weeks later and now there is a misfire. This is all a far too common issue for Chrysler Pacifica with the 3.6 L Pentastar motor.

Currently have 62,254 miles on my car and the head gasket is now faulty requiring a repair that’s almost $4,000. Check engine light came on prompting it to be looked at and head gasket was root cause. Appears to be a very common issue with Pacifica’s but no service bulletins or recalls associated with this issue yet.

My car won't start it says that the engine or accessory is on when it isn't. I had this same problem last year during covid so I replaced both the batteries last year. Now it's doing it again. This time how ever the light is flickering on the drivers side. The doors when I first got it and sometimes says still that there not enough power to operate sliding doors.

In November 2022, roughly 2 weeks before Thanksgiving our 2018 pacifica showed an engine code on the way home, it read to be a misfire. We were already enroute and near home so we cotinued driving. The low coolant light came on briefly as we were pulling into the driveway and the engine became hot. When I looked under hood I could hear a gurgling noise and noted th coolant resovoir to be empty. The next morning I added coolant and used a Gasket leak detection kit to confirm a blown head gasket. Vehicle was dropped off on a Monday and was in the shop for nearly a month waiting on parts. We were very fortunate to be so close to home. Failure occured under warranty but upon research found that the issue was fairly common among vehicles with this engine, some failures as low as 40k on the engine.

- The car still has open recall Z11 ( RU PHEV hybrid traction battery fire). - The car had open recall XE1 RU PHEV transmission open. - The car became stranded refusing to put the transmission into gear. - Had to tow the car to the dealership. The dealer stated the traction battery fuse was blown. The dealer could not pinpoint the root cause of the issue, nor did chrysler have parts readily available to fix. The car still shows there's an open short. - The dealer could not complete diagnosis because of the Z11 recall. They stated that the traction battery can not complete self check procedure. - Chrysler is unresponsive in following up on the issue.

I purchased this vehicle Certified Used from a Chrysler dealership 2/2020 and it did well until about 1 month ago. The motor was running "rough'' and sometimes losing power. Diagnostic code P0303 came up and I am told by our mechanic that the 3rd cylinder is ''blown''. Most likely due to dropped valve guide and / or warped head. When I began to look up reasons for this problem online, MANY problems just like this for the 3.6L V6 Pentastar motor. I was told not to drive it any more than I absolutely have to as it could / will lose power without warning. I don't know if this has been confirmed by dealer or ISC but it is on many forums and subject to class action lawsuit. There has been no other inspection besides my local mechanic. Engine light did come on when problem first began about 1 month ago.

Jun 27, 2023

Got a check engine light for misfire cylinder 4. Take it to a dealer and told its blown a head gasket at 76k miles. They act like this has never happened. Start reading all the forums and it’s a widely known issue that the manufacturer won’t correct. Could have an accident or catastrophic failure caused by their negligence.

Rough idle when starting cold. Cylinder 3 misfire. Loss of coolant. Jolt when accelerating .

Jun 3, 2023

Engine noise and rattling as well as coolant levels dropping dramatically. Mechanic advised head gasket repair and upon further inspection a NEW ENGINE on a 2018 vehicle. With more research, I see this has affected other Pacifica owners.

May 24, 2023

Pacifica 2018 Model. The engine light started coming on. The car started shaking strongly at start but gets normal after some minutes. Took it to dealership. Dealership said same problem you are discussing. Coolant was gone. Head gasket gone. The cylinder 5 misfiring. The engine needs to be replaced. This problem is affecting just too many owners. Request Chrysler to acknowledge that it is a problem.

May 18, 2023

Warped cylinder head (right side) causing cylinder misfires and loss of power; loss of coolant. Engine could have hydrolocked while driving. Check engine/P0303 code shown 17May2023 Dealer inspected 18May2023 and found warped cylinder head. Engine: 3.6L V6 24V VVT Engine with ESS; engine origin Mexico. 2018 vehicle with 69,000 miles odometer.

May 12, 2023

Van has been clunking/slipping through transmission when accelerating. Stop/Start function error relayed and had a rough idle noticeable when started cold. Car would shut down on occasion when coming to a stop. Battery was recently replaced, assuming due to start/stop battery(also been replaced) draining main battery. Technician indicated Misfire on cylinder, coil swapped, spark plugs replaced and 100,000 mileage maintenance completed per recommendation due to scope of work. Van returned then upon first start, extremely rough idle and exhaust smelled the worst I've ever smelled, choking even. Van taken under warranty at least 2 times for transmission and abrupt shutdowns due to safety concerns with vehicle. Never replicated at dealership.

May 9, 2023

Car began to idle roughly and the check engine light came on. A scan returned the code that indicates a misfire in cylinder 3 of the engine. Our local service station was unable to fix the problem, but stated it could be a leaking head gasket. We took the car to a dealership, where they diagnosed a crack in the engine block, with coolant leaking into the engine cylinder. The dealer service department is saying the engine needs to be replaced, at the cost of around $16,000. The car is at around 85,000 miles, far too early to have engine problems of this magnitude. This issue has been widely reported among other owners of 2017-2022 Pacificas...all similar cases. A misfire in an engine cylinder (usually 3 or 5) which ends up being diagnosed as a cracked engine block requiring a replacement.

May 8, 2023

Noticed that I have been low on antifreeze/coolant over the last few thousand miles. Reading other complaints, it seems as though the engine block becomes warped around 60,000 miles causing the engine to burn coolant. Chrysler will end up replacing the headgasket for around $3-4,000 which ends up lasting around 10,000 miles before the same issue occurs. Just surprised that a car with 60,000 miles would fail. There really should be at least a TSB on this.

May 7, 2023

Pacifica with 68000 miles giving a P0303 cylinder 3 misfire. After taking to two separate mechanics, they both confirmed its a blown head gasket leaking antifreeze into cylinder 3. Going to cost $4000 to repair.

My car has only done 73000 kms and I have taken very very good care of it with regular maintenance and got it fixed only from flagship dealerships. Seems warranty just expired month ago. I am the second owner who purchased it at 21K km. The dealership told me that they may not fix it under goodwill as I am second owner. I am left with no options.

Mar 27, 2023

I kept having a check engine light come on with the code P0305 for a cylinder 5 missfire. It turns out the cylinder is broke and leaking.

Service electronic stability

Mar 10, 2023

Check engine light appeared 01/26 out of nowhere. Engine started to idle rough onbstartup but cleared after a few seconds, checked code with OBD2 and it hit P0305. Took to dealership for repairs 01/27. We live in the middle of nowhere and having this vehicle fail in the middle of the no-cell-service drive could have caused us to be stranded in the snow, especially with the winter we've had it could have been a catastrophy. Dealer originally flagged fuel injector as the reason. Picked up vehicle on 01/31, check engine light returned on 02/01 and we immediately contacted the dealership again. Returned vehicle again on 02/02 and it has remained in the shop even as of today 03/10. Reported back to us that there are cracks in the Engine block are causing coolant to leak into cylinder 5. Dealership confirmed they have seen multiple 2017 and 2018 Pacificas have this same issue. Even went as far to say that those with a perfect maintence done on the vehicle were subject to this same issue. 3rd party inspectors have also checked the vehicle for extended warranty purposes. Many reports of the Pentastar 3.6L V-6 seem to show a commonality with what the dealership reported about the 2017 - 2018 Pacificas engine problems. Chrysler has not responded to outreach for assistance and as the cost to repair sent to warranty company is thousands of dollars over what the current value of the vehicle is worth. Chrysler seems to be dodging responsibilty for this blatent issue.

First, it started with the stop/ start not working . We took it to the shop they said we needed a new alternator. Costed us 700$ . Well the problems did not stop . The check engine light did not go off after a few times of driving it (the mechanic (crystler mechanic) said it would after a few times of driving it. Well then it started rumbling when u turned it on . Called and they said bring it back in. Well we planned on doing so but then the van wouldn't start. We had to get it towed . Well they said the fuse had blown . So when they replaced that they noticed white smoke coming out and all the coolant gone . They said it is most likely the cracked engine block which is gonna cost over 12000$ to fix . We already owe money on the car . We cannot afford this! We have 4 kids and this is a safety issue !!! Now we are out of a vehicle and still owe on it !

Feb 24, 2023

The car starts blowing out white smoke when started. Mechanic thinks it could be a blown gasket or Crack in engine block. The cable fuse blown as well. The vehicle did not start so it was towed to the mechanic.

2018 CHRYSLER PACIFICA. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARD TO PROBLEMS WITH ITS AUTOMATIC STOP/START FEATURE. THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE WAS IN FOR REPAIRS SEVERAL TIMES BUT THE DEALER ONLY SUPPLIED A RENTAL ONE TIME.

Feb 9, 2023

The end of 2021, Began not starting requiring many pushed of the start stop button; stalling when in motion on roads; gas pedal tight not depressing, engine light on and off, side auto doors often wouldn’t work automatically (battery new); was lurching and chugging randomly , over time very frequently. Nov 22’ had start stop battery replaced & fuel pump sensor. still lurched etc..worsened..late 2022 began frequently stalling , not starting, pedal would be stiff, lurched daily, stalled frequently during motion & upon first acceleration..start, try to go..stall out..finally jan 5, 2023, wouldn’t even turn over-just clicked-shop diagnosis said few codes referred to electrical panel issues.. replaced spark plugs, starter, got home, next morning, same thing ~no turnover. problem not solved. another shop, where it sits today-found cracked engine block($12,000 estimate to “attempt” replacing engine). deemed total loss as value of van is less. This has to be a defect gone undetected for some time, having built up damage over these last couple years. Many of issues are identical to recall (2019-2022) listed problems. Regardless of any recall being labeled as inactive, this vehicle is clearly a result of manufacturing issues. A 2018 doesn’t just have these problems when it’s cared for.We have four children & currently have no mode of transportation~two shops since January 6, ‘23, prior year of worsening symptoms. A safe, reliable vehicle is vital for our family’s functioning. It’s now at Lee’s Auto-seen in picture. Excel Auto was first repair attempt Jan.6. We will not be reimbursed by insurance for “mechanical failure.” Our loan is $18,000 outstanding. We pay $459.65 each month, and are responsible for remaining balance. Why should this happen to us. We certainly can’t purchase a second vehicle in conjunction with this loan. Your quick action and assistance is appreciated and direly needed.

Leaking coolant in cylinder 5 leading to a misfire and check engine light. Dealer reports this is a known issue and only replacing the engine will fix, but Chrysler isn’t doing anything to fix it.

Check engine light and start/stop light

Jan 30, 2023

Check engine light on. Number 3 cylinder misfire. Losing coolant. Head gasket replacement.

Jan 18, 2023

At Approx 92,000 miles, the head gaskets failed and allowed coolant into the cylinder heads causing the engine to overheat and the cylinder to be damaged and need replacing. The repairs would have cost me $3386, but thankfully extended warranty covered $1900.

Blown Head Gasket at 77K miles

Jan 11, 2023

Began with a misfire in cylinder 1 that would chug on startup, the smooth out. Had a check engine light come one, which showed the misfire in cylinder one. Brought it to the dealer, they noted low coolant levels and possible blown head gasket. Had only 108,000 miles. They could not get to further review of the motor for two more weeks, so we were told we could pick it up and bring it back. One hour after leaving the dealer, the motor overheated. There was no coolant whatsoever in the vehicle. After calling the dealer, we were told they forgot to put coolant back into the vehicle before were could pick it up. The next day, the van is no longer usable. It began stuttering continually.

Dec 20, 2022

Ticking noise began out of nowhere, 2 days later accelerated from a stop light felt a jolt and then lost power and check engine light flashing. Took to closest dealer to have looked at. Dealer determination new engine needed, or have cams, headers, rockers, and lifters repaired. Engine has 68,000 miles on it.

Dec 4, 2022

At 63000 miles engine misfire occuered needing to replace the head gasket causing leaking coolant into the combustion chamber causing a misfire. Very concerning considering relevtivly low milleage and potential ongoing engine concerns. Wife and children were driving when check engine light went on, resulting in misfire causing car to shutter and stiring wheel shake. Car is curently being serviced at the dealer. There were no early indicators prior to this incident.

Dec 1, 2022

I was driving my Pacifica 2018 on the road when suddenly I heard a beep, I looked at the dashboard, it had a red light indicating that my car is overheated, my kids were panicking, hoping it shouldn't start burning. I couldn't stop on the highway because of passing cars. it was towed in to the dealer, I got a phone call that I need a new engine... I had no prior indications of any problem.

Oct 30, 2022

Radiator coolant leaked in cylinder 3 engine (3.6L)has 64K miles after searching online the Pacifica has this issue and Chrysler has not did anything to fix this in recalls

Oct 27, 2022

Check engine light p0303 cylinder 3 misfire. Dealership mechanic diagnosed as blown head gasket.

Oct 24, 2022

It would not accelerate and misire when you pressed on the gas pedal. It was finally found after 7 momths of them teying to fix other parts that we would beed a new engine altogether

Oct 15, 2022

Car engine has stalled a dozen times or so. On one occasion it stalled and would not restart, had to tow to a dealer to repair it and it ended up costing $2700. And when it doesn’t stall on the road the engine constantly has weird acceleration dips where it almost stalls. This has been a constant problem for me and I purchased the vehicle used with 39000 miles on it. Which is not much mileage so I was not expecting this many problems.

Oct 3, 2022

The car battery system has failed over 5x when driving. All of a sudden the car battery lights start coming on & stearing shuts down and car stops. The last time it completely shut down. No power to even run hazard lights. No power to lock the car or rollup the windows. It has been 2 weeks and dealership mechanic can not figure out what is wrong.

Sep 22, 2022

2018 Pacifica Wheelchair Accessible Van has on several occasions without warning, decelerated and stalled. Displays Place into Park and restart. Van starts sputtering & decelerates. After pulling over, waiting a few minutes it does start again. We've had the van over a year without any issues until now. We did have it at a dealership for a week. They were unable to find anything wrong with it. Very frustrating as we use this van to transport our disabled daughter. Recently we received notice of Class Action Lawsuit for this problem. Doesn't help me right now.

Sep 15, 2022

Vehicle began to idle rough, then the check engine light came on with the code P303 (misfire in cylinder 3). Vehicle diagnosed as having a bad head gasket. This appears to be a VERY common occurrence on this vehicle based on posts made by owners here: https://www.pacificaforums.com/

Sep 13, 2022

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The van stalls, the wheels lock up, the transmission shifter becomes unusable, and of the warning light start flashing on the dashboard. Yes, it’s available for inspection upon request. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? It stalled in the middle of the road blocking traffic from both ways and was unable to be moved for over half an hour. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes, by an independent service center. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Yes Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No, not until the day it stalled on 8/30/2022z

Sep 12, 2022

Van started running slightly rough in the mornings if the engine was cold. CEL eventually came on with a P0304 DTC. I replaced the igntion coils and spark plugs since the van was right at 80,000 miles. Seem to run fine for a day after, then issues came back. Took it to the dealership for more in-depth troubleshooting and repair. They failed to do anything after almost two weeks except that now my van wouldn't start. Took the van to a non-dealership affiliated repair shop and they said the starter had failed, but the engine passed the pressure check of the head. Waited almost another two weeks for a new starter, mechanic got it back together, found some coolant coming out of the exhaust manifold and recommended adding leak stop that there might be a small casting issue with the engine. They added leak stop and returned the van to me stating they think there was a small hole in the engine from casting and that coolant was getting by and causing the misfire. Subsequently, the coolant would then travel to the catalytic converter where it would burn off but caused the cat to be much hotter than normal and that was in-turn frying the starter which is pressed up right next to the cat. The van continued to run rough for a couple days before it finally wouldn't start again and now i'm having to have it towed back to the shop. I suspect the issue may a issue with a warped head or something even worse. A cursory search of both online forums and NHTSA reports that this is not a one off or new issue and only seems to be getting worse and more prolific as the average age of the fleet pushes towards 80-100K+ miles. Modern vehicles should be able to go 150-200k miles before head gasket issues become a serious concern.

Aug 29, 2022

The engine overheated while driving and required immediate attention, leaving me and my family stranded on the highway. The original code that tripped the check engine light was for a misfire in Cylinder #3, upon further inspection at the dealership it was concluded that the issue was a blown head gasket, causing the engine to overheat and fail. This was confirmed by the dealer. I have sent the issue to the manufacturer as well. There are a number of these issues in public forums. It is apparently a well known defect.

Aug 1, 2022

I have owned van for 1 year and taken it into the shop 6 times for blown head gasket, leaking coolant, over heating due to leaking coolant, and now it needs a new ignition coil and spark plug due to coolant leaking. Check engine light pops on every time and the van notifies me that the engine is over heating. Must pull over on the side of the road to let car cool down. Problem has been confirmed, taken to car dealer at every instance. After issue has been taken to dealer and "fixed" check engine light returns after 4-6 weeks, every time. Paperwork can be provided on request.

Jul 18, 2022

Van showed the message "Stop safely the vehicle will shut off" and stopped on the road. It was immobile for close to 30 mins. I was able to start and drive back home. It again stopped on the road on the way to the dealer. I have seen number of complaints on this van on the internet. My van is still with the dealer and they could not fix the problem in the past 15days

Jul 14, 2022

Vehicle with 60,850 miles (just out of warranty) had leaky right head gasket. This caused the engine to hesitate where power was needed before starting to move and engine did not run smoothly. This caused unsafe conditions when parallel parking - where quick engine response was needed to get out of the roadway from oncoming traffic. The problem was confirmed by check engine light and repaired by a Chrysler dealer for $3,500. Online forums indicate that there are many drivers who have encountered this same issue with early mileage gasket issues with this particular engine.

Jul 10, 2022

Honestly it’s been one thing after another, including engine, power train and electric issues

Jun 27, 2022

I confirmed this issue on chrysler pacifica owners forum. Engine block failure at less than 70K miles. Maintained car per owner's manual recommended schedule. Despite good maintenance, we had the issue first manifest as a single-cylinder misfire. Replaced the spark plug and coil to find that the car wouldn't start. Then found a blown 500 amp fuse at the block above the battery terminal. White smoke from exhaust at restart. Ended up with a diagnosis of block failure / warped head gasket. Confirmed large number of reports on the chrysler pacfica owner forum.

The contact owns a 2018 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated that while parking the vehicle in her garage, the gear shifter indicator light was not illuminated while shifting from the drive (D) to park (P) and the vehicle was not able to turn off after pushing the START/STOP button. Additionally, the rear liftgate door was not able to open as needed. Several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The contact's neighbor disconnected the fuel lines and was able to turn off the vehicle; however, the instrument panel light and headlights were not able to be turned off. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 47,000.

Months after a start/stop recall software update, my wife and children were entering the intersection to make a left turn and made a complete stop. The vehicle’s engine stopped. The oncoming traffic cleared up. My wife proceeded to make the left turn but the vehicle did not respond. The engine did not restart on its own. The D on the shift gear began to flash. The throttle sensor lightning bolt symbol appeared on the dash and there was nothing that would allow the vehicle to shift or restart. The vehicle needed to to be powered off. The traffic light turned red and the car was blocking the intersection for the other traffic. After restarting the vehicle, the turn was completed and ran normally. This occurred 3 more times at a stop light on different occasions. The dealership found a wiring issue associated with the start/stop and the vehicle hood open sensor.

May 15, 2022

I was driving on the highway at approximately 60mph when the engine suddenly quit and the message "Put vehicle in Park to restart" appeared on the console. I managed to get parked in a precarious position on the wedge between an on ramp and the interstate. Although I was able to shift into Park I was not able to restart the vehicle for some time. During that time I called Chrysler Roadside assistance which could not help with the problem and 911 (because it was so unsafe to remain in place) A policeman came and called for a tow but while waiting, the car finally shut down and restarted. The check engine indicator was still on but I managed to drive to the next exit and get to a safe location. I finally was contacted by Roadside Assistance but they could offer no assistance. I restarted the car. The check engine light was off and I completed my trip without incident. This is the third time this problem has occurred. In the other two incidents the vehicle restarted right away. This is an extremely dangerous behavior, however, and seems to be commonly reported on chrysler forums. I do not know if it is related to the current recall or not. I was under the impression that prior recalls had resolved this problem but see it reported in more current models as well. Chrysler apparently does not understand the cause or have a fix. In most cases, it appears they are unconcerned.

May 13, 2022

I took my van in for recall work to replace the hybrid battery. Since then I have had to return 5 times because the coolant keeps getting low, and the "Hybrid electrical system" and "check engine" lights come on after a few days of driving. I have reported smelling fire when this happens. I take it to the dealer. They top off the coolant and reset the lights and send me on my way now. The first 4 times they kept the car for 3 days to do this and drive it about 200 miles after topping it off. I contacted Chrysler directly and they tell me its not their problem. I need to deal with the dealer. The dealer has no idea what they are doing. I am attaching the recall notice. The dealer has all copy's of the receipts where the work was completed.

Apr 16, 2022

Car will unexpectedly send a message on the dash that says to "Stop Safely Vehicle Will Shut Off Soon". This will be followed by a complete shut down of the vehicle with no electric power to accessories, the engine, brakes, lights, etc. This can happen while underway at any speed and it will render the vehicle totally uncontrollable and risk injury to vehicle occupants and other vehicles and pedestrians. This failure has happened approximately 5 times and fortunately, there have been no accidents of injuries. The vehicle has been taken or towed into the Chrysler dealer 3 times. On the first visit, they said it was the battery. Battery was replaced under warranty. Since then, the dealer can not duplicate the problem but problem returns unexpectedly once it has been returned to us. This is very scary and we can not trust this vehicle, particularly because we do use it to transport our 3 grandchildren who are all below the age of 7.

Apr 9, 2022 Crash Fire

Minor Front end collision resulted in the vehicle bursting into flames. Completely engulfed and a total loss. The other vehicle drove away after the accident.

Feb 10, 2022 Fire

2018 Pacifica Touring L Plus. Approximately 33,750 miles. Engine compartment fire. Cause UNKNOWN. Vehicle was parked with engine / ignition off and directly after a brief warm-up and approximate 5 mile drive. Returned to vehicle after approximately 10 minutes in store. Noticed odd, but faint smell and assumed was from adjacent, running vehicle. Started engine and reversed from parking spot. While proceeding to parking lot exit, smell became more pronounced and seemed electrical in nature. Quickly parked again at outer perimeter of adjacent store lot and away from other parked vehicles. Released hood latch, and exited vehicle. Lifted hood to find grey smoke throughout engine compartment and flames in lower LH (my right) engine compartment. Closed hood and removed my dog from vehicle while calling 911. Police and fire arrived in under 5 minutes. Fire department cut hood and grill to bypass latch and extinguished the fire. No injuries to report. The outcome could have easily been different, including loss of life, if the fire intensified while I was still in store. Loss of life, serious injury, and / or significant property damage if parked in garage, structure, or still surrounded by other vehicles. Fire contained within engine compartment. No functioning electrical. Windshield cracked & various front-end damage. Smoke in vehicle interior, ducting, and personal contents. Water damage from extinguishing. Insurance company deemed total loss and has possession of vehicle as of this report date. No previous indication, mechanical or electrical, prior to this incident. Purchased used with 28,398 miles on 6/30/2021 from a CDJR Dealership in Southeast Michigan. Police, fire, and insurance reports available.

Car started using a lot of coolant, mechanic says its a blown head gasket and due to coolant washing the cylinders will be a new engine needed. Vehicle has 73,000 miles, pretty low for such a significant failure.

TRANSMISSION REPLACED NOVEMBER I BELIEVE OF 2020. EVER SINCE THEN I HAVE BROUGHT IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP WITH COOLANT CONCERNS (LOW COOLANT LEVELS, BUBBLING NOISES). HAVE HAD 3 AUX BATTERIES INSTALLED IN A YEAR. NOW AUTO START STOP LIGHT HAVE BEEN ON AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT GIVING MISFIRE CODES. WAS FINALLY INFORMED AFTER FORCING THEM TO TAKE ANOTHER LOOK AFTER MY PACIFIC KEPT SHAKING AND THEN STALLING WHILE MOVING, THAT THERE IS A COOLANT LEAK ON/IN A HEAD GASKET CAUSING COOLANT TO LEAK EVERYWHERE, IN TURN CAUSING THE MISFIRE. HAVE GOTTEN THE RUN AROUND FROM THE DEALERSHIP, NOW THEY FINALLY LISTENED TO ME AND MY CONCERN AFTER THEY REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION. NOW ASKING FOR $4100 JUST TO REMOVE THE ENGINE, NOT EVEN TO FIX THE ISSUE.

Blown Head Gasket with on 70,000 miles. This is a vehicle for moving young families and could have been stranded in the middle of nowhere. Chrysler Care told me I was 10K miles out of warranty and would not extend good will fix because I was not original purchaser. But they were the original manufacturer! Don't buy Chrysler.

I was driving down the road and on a 8 lane road I came to a stop light. At the stop light my Van shut down and would not restart or turn back on. I was dead in the road with kids in the car almost getting hit from behind. I have video of the incident.

Vehicle stops in the middle off traffic. Engine will start but car will not move. Numerous warning lights appear such as:vehicle not in park (it is in park), rear brake assist unavailable, shift to P then desired gear, service electronic stability control, park brake temporarily unavailable. The vehicle accelerator pedal can be floured and the RPM is only 1500. After tow trick delivers me home, the vehicle will miraculously drive unimpeded for days and weeks until the very same thing happens. Repair facilities have said they can find nothing wrong/cannot duplicate.

Sep 23, 2021 Fire

Vehicle caught on fire under the engine on the passenger side. It was contained within the engine compartment. I smelled smoke and thought it was from outside. Not seeing any haze outside I check my vehicle indications and all were normal. When I stopped to wait to make a left turn that’s when I saw the smoke and pulled over. Police and fire put out the flames. The car is currently in the shop being repaired and nobody can tell me why it happened but they are repairing it. I’m concerned for the safety of my family.

2018 Chrysler Pacifica stalled while making a turn in an intersection. Dash message said something like put in park and hit stop/start and the D on the shifter was flashing

We purchased the vehicle new from an out-of-state dealership (Ewald Chrysler Jeep Dodge LLC in Franklin, WI) in November 2019. Since that purchase, we have suffered four (4) failure events in which the vehicle completely loses power while driving, having experienced the first failure event just 10 months after purchase at approximately 15,000 miles. In each instance, the vehicle will, without warning and while in motion, power off and cease to move under its own power, illuminate a check engine light (CEL), and display a ‘Shift to P to Start’ message on the console. In every instance, the complete loss of driveability has required immediate and urgent action to move our vehicle out of lanes of travel and onto the shoulder. In all but one instance, the vehicle fails to restart without significant intervention (e.g., towing to the dealership) and has left our family stranded. To facilitate repairs, we have shared CEL event logging, a video, and photos with the below-listed dealerships. To date, the dealership states that they are unsure as to the cause of the failures and can not find any obvious issue requiring repair beyond the P0C0E code that is stored in the vehicle's ECM. Our vehicle has been in for repair on the following dates for this recurrent failure: August 3, 2020 (15,900 mi): died while driving, serviced at Larry Miller Chrysler Jeep Avondale August 7, 2020 (15,978 mi): died while driving, serviced at Chapman Dodge Chrysler Jeep June 30, 2021 (33,863): died while driving, serviced at Chapman Dodge Chrysler Jeep July 3, 2021 (34,300): died while driving, serviced at Chapman Dodge Chrysler Jeep

Sliding door shuts, beeps and reopens. we have to hit the button 3-5 times before it shuts. Back up camera flashes blue and does not work. Aux battery keeps going dead and the auto start stop quits working. I just had to spend 1000 to fix all the issues. after seeing other comments this seems to be quite a problem with a lot of these vans.

I WAS STOPPED AT LIGHT GOING STRAIGHT AND WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN, I PRESSED ON THE GAS PEDAL BUT THE VAN WOULDN'T MOVE AS IT HAD STALLED OUT. THE SHIFT KNOB WAS STUCK ON DRIVE WHICH STARTED BLINKING AND THE START/STOP WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. I TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND TRIED TO RESTART IT BUT IT STILL FAILED TO MOVE. I TRIED TO RESTART IT A SECOND TIME AND THIS TIME IT DID START TO MOVE. EXTREMELY INCONVENIENT AND UNSAFE WHEN STUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION. ALSO HAVE HAD ISSUES WITH THE LEFT PASSENGER REAR DOOR CONTINOUSLY OPENING BACK UP AFTER TRYING TO CLOSE IT. NOTHING IS IN THE WAY OF THE DOOR WHICH I HAD CONFIRMED MULTIPLE TIMES SO I'M NOT SURE IF SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH THE SENSOR OR IF IT'S PART OF THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM FAILING.

THIS VEHICLE WITH UNSAFE DEADLY DRIVING CONDITIONS BEGAN AS A NEW VEHICLE AT AROUND 1300 MILES. ACCELERATION OF CHRYSLER PACIFICA WHILE DRIVING AT 55 TO 75 MILES PER HOUR WITH THE ENGINE OF VEHICLE DOES NOT SLOW DOWN BUT STAYS STUCK AND DOES NOT SLOW DOWN AND REMAINS AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED. DOCUMENTED OVER 350 INCIDENTS OF THIS SUBJECT PACIFICA FOR 3 YEARS. OFTEN, I COULD NOT STOP THE ENGINE FROM RACING AT ITS HIGHEST RATE OF SPEED WHILE ON FREEWAYS AND OTHER ROADS. THIS VEHICLES ENGINE DOES NOT SLOW DOWN AND BEGIN FORCED PUMPING OF BRAKES MAKING THE VEHICLE RISE IN HEIGHT AND.. II COULD NOT STOP THIS PACIFICA ENGINE FROM SHUTDOWN RACING ENGINE UNTIL I PLACE THE SHIFT MECHANISM IN NEUTRAL TO SLOW IT DOWN AND KEEP IN FROM CRASHING INTO A FORWARD VEHCILE OBJECT. THE ENGINE GETS STUCK IN ITS FORMER HIGHEST RATE OF SPEED FOR 30 TO 45 SECONDS.ON A GOOD NUMBER OF OCCASIONS I HAVE TAKEN THIS SUBJECT VEHICLE TO RAY LATHEM DEALERSHIP IN DETROIT, MICHIGAN. THE DEALERSHIP PUT THOUSANDS OF MILES ON MY LEASED VEHICLE AND STATED THEY DID NOT KNOW WHAT THE SAFETY STUCK ACCELERATION PROBLEM WAS. CHRYSLER WOULD NOT ACKNOWLEDGE ANY SAFETY ACCELERATION PROBLEMS AND I HAD MY VEHICLE TESTED BY SOFTWARE ENGINEERS AND THEY ADVISED ME THAT THE AFOREMENTIONED CHRYSLER PACIFICA HAS DEFECTIVE UT MODULES, POWERTRAIN CONTROL PCM REPROGRAM MODULE POWERTRAIN CONTROL. THIS PACIFICA ENGINE CONTINUED TO STICK CAUSING THE ENGINE TO RACE A ITS FORMER HIGHEST RATE OF SPPED OF 55 OR 70 MILES PER HOUR. DURING WINTER WEATHER LIKE RAIN, SNOW OR ICE THIS VEHICLE WOULD TURN SIDEWAYS WHILE GETTING OFF THE FREEWAY SERVICE DRIVE. WHILE THIS IS MY 4TH CHRYSLER MINI VAN I HAVE PLACED MY FAMILY CHILDREN AT HIGH RISK OF BEING INJURED IN A CAR ACCIDENT. I HAVE WRITTEN THE PRESIDENT OF CHRYSLER AND ALL THIS STRESS THIS COST ME OVER 9,500 ADDITIONAL MILEAGE PENALTIES OF .28 CENTS PER MILE.. .

MULTIPLE TIMES WHILE STATIONARY WHEN STARTING THE CAR, THE PUSH BUTTON STARTER WILL FAIL TO START THE ENGINE. UPON SECOND ATTEMPT TO START THE CAR THE STARTER HAS A PROLONGED SERIES OF CRANKS AND FINALLY STARTS. THE CONCERN IS THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES AFTER JUST PURCHASING THE CAR. THIS COULD BE A SAFETY ISSUE IF IT HAPPENS WHILE DRIVING, AND ENGINE SHUTS OFF, OR COULD STRAND US WITHOUT THE THE ABILITY TO START THE CAR.

MY VAN COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN WHILE DRIVING WITH MY 2 KIDS IN THE CAR AND WOULD NOT START BACK UP. IT WAS NOT FROM THE AUTO START/STOP FEATURE. THE RADIO INTERIOR LIGHTS EVERYTHING SHUT OFF. IT WOULD NOT EVEN ALLOW ME TO GET IT IN N TO PUSH IT. IT WAS VERY SCARY BECAUSE I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF A HIGHWAY WITH MY CHILDREN. IT IS NOT MY BATTERY, ALTERNATOR, OR STARTER BECAUSE I'VE HAD THEM TESTED. AFTER SPEAKING TO MULTIPLE PEOPLE AND READING ON THE CHRYSLER FORUMS THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON ISSUE. IF THIS ISSUE PERSISTS I WILL BE TRADING IT IN FOR A DIFFERENT MAKE AND MODEL. BUMMED BECAUSE I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS VAN.

THE VAN WAS RUNNING AND I WAS STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION, WAITING TO TURN LEFT. A WARNING MESSAGE POPPED UP ON THE DASH--SOMETHING ABOUT THE START/STOP SYSTEM. I RELEASED MY FOOT FROM THE BRAKE SO AS TO CONTINUE THROUGH THE INTERSECTION. INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR LIGHTS REMAINED ON HOWEVER THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT MOVE. I COULD NOT TURN THE SHIFT KNOB OUT OF DRIVE, EVEN AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS. DEPRESSING THE GAS PEDAL HAS NO EFFECT. AT SOME POINT I MAY HAVE PRESSED THE BRAKE AND THEN TURNED THE SHIFT KNOB BACK TO PARK. I WAS THEN ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AND GET OUT OF THE INTERSECTION. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE HOME AFTER BUT THE EXPERIENCE WAS DANGEROUS AND FRIGHTENING.

WHILE DRIVING, MY SON, WHO WAS SEATED IN THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE THIRD ROW, NOTICED THAT HIS CUPHOLDER AREA WAS EXTREMELY HOT. I PULLED OVER AND CONFIRMED. WE DROVE ON AND I TOLD HIM TO CHECK. IT STAYED VERY HOT FOR THE DURATION OF THE DRIVE. AT THE FIRST VISIT THE DEALER SAID THAT THEY ADDED INSULATION BETWEEN THE INTERIOR PANELS AND THE COOLANT LINES IN THE AREA, THOUGH AS AN ENGINEER I UNDERSTOOD THAT SAID INSULATION WOULD DO NOTHING IF IT WERE SQUEEZED TIGHTLY BETWEEN THE PANEL AND THE PIPE. WE NOTICED NO CHANGE AND REPORTED THE PROBLEM TO CHRYSLER, WHO REFUNDED THE VISIT BUT TOOK NO FURTHER ACTION. A REPEAT VISIT TO THE DEALER HAD THEM SAYING THERE WAS LESS THAN FIVE DEGREES DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE HOT SPOT AND THE SURROUNDING AREA. I USED MY INFRARED THERMOMETER TO PROVE THAT THE SECTION OF THE INTERIOR PANEL IS OVER 130 DEGREES WHEREAS THE SURROUNDING PANEL IS ABOUT 65. YOU CAN SEE THIS IN THE VIDEO I LINK TO BELOW. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE, AS SECOND DEGREE BURNS CAN RESULT FROM TEMPERATURES THAT HIGH, AND IT COULD START A FIRE. REPEATED ATTEMPTS TO CONTACT CHRYSLER WERE IGNORED. HTTPS://YOUTU.BE/GTBECZ5CHTG

ALL MY BUTTONS ON MY DASH INCLUDING A/C, AUTO START, BACK UP CAMERA/SENSORS WILL NOT RESPOND. ITS AS THOUGH MY CAR JUST DIES. THIS OCCURRENCE HAS NO COMMON SCENARIO THAT BRINGS ON THE MALFUNCTION. I 'VE HAD TIMES WHEN IT MALFUNCTIONED WEEKS APART AND THIS LAST OCCURRENCE IT WAS A YEAR IN BETWEEN OCCURRENCES. I WAS TOLD ON A CHRYSLER FORUM TO CHECK MY PCM. MY BATTERIES HAVE BEEN TESTED AND PASSED. I CURRENTLY DO NOT HAVE MY AUX BATTERY INSTALLED AS I DO NOT WANT/LIKE MY AUTOSTART FEATURE. FIRST, THANKS FOR THIS OPPORTUNITY TO BRING UP MY CONCERNS REGARDING MY VEHICLE: I HAD THE FOLLOWING ISSUES WITH MY 2018 VEHICLE: 1. ON 20 FEB 20, VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION WHEN THE CHARGING SYSTEM LIGHT CAME UP REGARDING AN ISSUE WITH THE ELECTRICAL CHARGING SYSTEM. THE VEHICLE ALMOST TURNED OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET. NOW THE OFF/ ON START IS NOT WORKING. 2. 9 MAY 19; VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY; ANOTHER RECALL REGARDING THE BATTERY GROUND THAT HAVE BEEN BUILT WITH A SEALER THAT IS USED DURING THE WIRE HARNESS MANUFACTURING PROCESS MAY ACCUMULATE ON THE WIRE HARNESS TAB WHICH MAY CAUSE A LOSS OF CLAMP LOAD IN THE BATTERY GROUND JOINT OVER TIME. 3. 23 MAY 18; FEW DAYS AFTER PURCHASED, THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY, THE RECALL WAS ABOUT FAULT HANDLING STRATEGY OF THE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE OR PCM SOFTWARE IN THE VEHICLE. I AM REALLY CONCERN BECAUSE THIS IS A NEW VEHICLE FROM 2018 AND IS THE VEHICLE UTILIZED FOR MY FAMILY ON A DAILY BASIS AND IN LESS THAN 2 YEARS AND IT HAS 2 RECALLS AND ONE MALFUNCTION. I AM REALLY WORRY ABOUT THE PERFORMANCE OF MY CHRYSLER PACIFICA, AND I AM REALLY CONCERN THAT ONE OF THIS DAYS THE VEHICLE LEFT MY FAMILY ON THE ROAD.

CAME TO FULL STOP AT A LIGHT ON A 2 LANE HIGHWAY. THERE WAS NO ONE IN FRONT OF ME AND ONE CARE BEHIND. ALMOST IMMEDIATELY AFTER STOPPING FOR THE LIGHT, THE ENGINE STOPPED, THE TRANSMISSION INDICATOR LIGHT FLASHED THE LIGHT UNDER "D" AND THE GAUGE CLUSTER FLASHED MULTIPLE LIGHTS. I CAN ONLY REMEMBER SEEING FWC OR FCW FLASHING BUT THERE WERE OTHER LIGHTS. AUTO START/STOP WAS NOT DISABLED SO I WAS INITIALLY NOT SURPRISED BY THE ENGINE STOPPING AT A LIGHT. TO RESTART, I HAD TO PLACE TRANSMISSION BACK IN "P", HOLD THE BRAKE AND PUSH THE IGNITION. I THEN, DESPITE HAVING OUR SEAT BELTS ON, HAD TO DISENGAGE THE PARKING BRAKE BY PUSHING THE BUTTON. THIS USUALLY HAPPENS AUTOMATICALLY WHEN THE VEHICLE IS PLACED IN "D". ONCE WE RETURNED HOME, THE DRIVER'S SIDE POWER SLIDING DOOR WOULD NOT OPERATE. WE HAD TO OPEN IT MANUALLY TO GET MY SON OUT. COMING HOME FROM CHURCH, A NEIGHBOR WAS OUT WASHING HIS CAR, AS HE MOVED TOWARD THE ROAD I BEGAN TO APPLY THE BRAKES AND THE ENGINE SPED UP TO A HIGHER SPEED. AFTER I STOPPED THE CAR, I LOOKED DOWN TO SEE MY RIGHT SHOE WAS ON BOTH PEDALS. THIS HAD HAPPENED THREE TIMES BEFORE. MY SON WENT OUT AND CHECKED THE BRAKE FLUID AND FOUND IT AT THE MINIMUM LEVEL. HE TOPPED IT OFF TO THE MAXIMUM LEVEL. MY SON BELIEVES THAT WILL TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM. BUT REPORTING IT MIGHT BE BETTER FOR OTHERS. SINCE I HAD TAKEN IT INTO CHRYSLER A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO AND THEY SAID THEY HAD PREFORMED A 32 POINT SAFETY INSPECTION, I DID NOT SEE HOW THE COULD HAVE MISSED THE LOW BRAKE FLUID, OR HAVE NOT TOPPED IT OFF. IT SEEMS THE BRAKE PEDAL IS UP HIGHER THAN THE GAS PEDAL BY SEVERAL INCHES WHEN THE CAR IS FIRST STARTED, BUT AFTER SEVERAL MILES - MORE THAN 11 MILES - IT LOSES THE HEIGHT IT STARTED WITH. THE VEHICLE WAS MOVING AT LESS THAN 20 MPH ON A SUBDIVISION STREET. THIS HAD HAPPENED THREE TIMES BEFORE, WHILE PULLING INTO A PARKING PLACE OR DRIVEWAY, MOVING AT LOW SPEED. EACH TIM AFTER HAVING DRIVEN A LONGER DISTANCE THAN NORMAL. OVER 11 MILES. THE BRAKE PEDAL HAD GONE LOWER TO THE FLOOR AND WAS AT OR BELOW THE LEVEL OF THE GAS PEDAL. IF THIS IS TO BE EXPECTED, THE BRAKE AND GAS PEDAL ARE MUCH TOO CLOSE TOGETHER, ONLY 3 INCHES BETWEEN THEM, AND THIS IS THEN A PROBLEM.

THE DASH BOARD GIVES VARIOUS REASONS WHY IT CAN'T WORK BUT NONE OF THESE CONDITIONS OR SITUATIONS BUT NONE SEEM RELATED TO ACTUAL, CURRENT OPERATION OF THE CAR: ENGINE IS NOT WARMED UP OR THE STEERING WHEEL TURNED TO SHARPLY. I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE WITH 60 MILES ON THE ODOMETER IN AUGUST 2018.

ELECTRICAL AND SENSOR ISSUES. WHEN MY 2018 PACIFICA IS STARTED IN THE MORNING I RECEIVE A FCW (FRONT CRASH WARNING) AFTER DRIVING APPROXIMATELY ONE HALF MILE AND STOPPING AT A STOP LIGHT NEAR MY HOUSE. I HAVE THE GAS SAVER ON AND MY VAN WILL USUALLY SHUT OFF. WHEN I STOP AT THE LIGHT, THE CONSOLE WILL FLASH FCW WHEN NO OBJECTS ARE IN FRONT OR NEAR ME AS WELL AS TWO OTHER CENSORS FLASHING. THE VAN COMPLETELY SHUTS DOWN AND THEN FLASHES "START STOP REQUIRED". I THEN HAVE TO PLACE THE VEHICLE IN PARK, TURN IT OFF, RESTART IT, THEN SHIFT BACK TO DRIVE ALL WHILE IN AT AN INTERSECTION. THIS HAS HAPPENED AT LEAST 12 TIMES AND CREATES A RISK OF BEING REAR-ENDED. SINCE WE PURCHASED THE VAN IN AUGUST 2018, WE HAVE HAD: THE UCONNECT CENTER REPLACED ON SEPTEMBER 7 2018, THE RADIO IMPROPERLY ACTIVATED OR TURNED OFF INCORRECTLY COMPLETELY DRAINING THE BATTERY REQUIRING TOW AND SERVICE ON APRIL 12 2019, AND THE FCW WAS SUPPOSEDLY REPAIRED ON MAY 21 2019. ALTHOUGH IT WAS "FIXED" THE FCW ALERT HAS OCCURRED 3 TIMES SINCE IT WAS RETURNED LESS THAN 3 WEEKS PRIOR.

ON MAY 25, 2019, AS I WAS DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY AT ABOUT 40 MPH WITH TWO LITTLE CHILDREN IN THE CAR, MY CHRYSLER PACIFICA SUDDENLY STALLED AND THE ENGINE DIED. TWO ERROR MESSAGES CAME UP: ONE A PICTURE OF A BATTERY AND ONE A PICTURE OF A TURTLE. THE CAR DIED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY AND IT WAS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS, ESPECIALLY IN RAINY CONDITIONS. I HAD TO WAIT FOR A TOW TRUCK IN RAIN AND IN DANGEROUS CONDITIONS TO GET IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE ENGINE WOULD NOT ENGAGE EVEN AFTER BEING JUMP STARTED.

VEHICLE BEGAN GIVING ERRATIC DASH DISPLAYS, FOR EXAMPLE IT ADVISED THAT THE CAR WAS NOT IN PARK. IT ADVISED THAT THE GEAR SHIFT NEED SERVICE. DESPITE NOT EVER TURNING ON, THE VEHICLE AS CLEARLY HAVING A COMPLETE ELECTRICAL MELTDOWN. THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS ENGAGED. THEN NONE OF THE BUTTONS ON THE FOB, NOR IN THE CAR WERE RESPONDING. WHEN DRIVING AND STOPPING AT A SIGNAL, ENGINE GOES INTO AUTO START/STOP, CHIMES WITH ERROR, AND MUST DO A MANUAL RESTART BY PLACING INTO PARK. HAS DONE THIS MANY TIMES AND COULD BE VERY DANGEROUS IF STOPPED IN AN INTERSECTION. THE ONLY REMEDY IS TO START ENGINE AND TURN OFF AUTO START/STOP.

WE BOUGHT THE CAR AS A CERTIFIED USED CAR FROM A DEALERSHIP IN FEBRUARY, 2019. THE CAR IS A 2018, AND HAD 22,000 MILES AT TIME OF PURCHASE. THE CAR FIRST STALLED IN LATE MARCH, 2019. IT STALLED WHILE AT A RED LIGHT, AND CARS HAD TO BE DIRECTED AROUND THE CAR. MY CHILD WAS IN THE CAR WITH ME AT THE TIME. AN ERROR MESSAGE APPEARED WITH SOMETHING REGARDING THE STABILITY CONTROL. SINCE THAT FIRST TIME, THE CAR HAS STALLED AT A LIGHT 2 MORE TIMES. WE ARE BRINGING THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER FOR SERVICE. WHEN WE CALLED TO LET THE DEALER KNOW THE ISSUE, THEY SAID THEY'VE NEVER HEARD OF THIS HAPPENING. I FIND THAT HARD TO BELIEVE WITH SO MANY SIMILAR COMPLAINTS. I AM VERY CONCERNED THAT THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE THAT IS NOT BEING ADDRESSED.

AUTOMATIC RESTART FEATURE STALLS THE CAR AFTER THE FEATURE TURNS OFF ENGINE AND DRIVER TRIES TO DRIVE AGAIN. IF CAR HAS NOT BEEN RUNNING FOR A LONG TIME, THEN AT FIRST STOP (STOP SIGN OR STOP LIGHT) THE AUTOMATIC RESTART FEATURE WILL TURN OFF THE ENGINE AS EXPECTED BUT WHEN DRIVER TRIES TO DRIVE AGAIN, THE ENGINE STALLS. DRIVER FORCED TO PUT CAR INTO PARK AND USE START/STOP BUTTON TO COMPLETELY RESTART THE ENGINE. THIS IS A DANGEROUS ISSUE AS THE CAR STALLS COMPLETELY AND PUTS DRIVER AT RISK OF GETTING REAR-ENDED SINCE CAR WILL NOT MOVE WHEN LIGHT TURNS GREEN. THERE IS NO WAY TO PERMANENTLY DISABLE THIS AUTOMATIC RESTART FEATURE, SO DRIVER MUST REMEMBER TO DO IT MANUALLY BY PUSHING A DASH BUTTON WITH A ON IT.....ELSE THE CAR WILL STALL AT FIRST STOP.

DURING DRIVING THE VAN WILL SHUT OFF. THIS HAPPENS INTERMITTENTLY BUT CONSISTENTLY 1-3 TIMES PER WEEK. MOST OFTEN THE VEHICLE WILL SHUT OFF WHILE AT A STOP. THIS HAPPENS WITH BOTH THE AUTO START/STOP FEATURE ON AND OFF. WHEN RELEASING THE BREAK TO RESUMING DRIVING, THE VEHICLE IS OFF AND WARNING LIGHTS ON THE DASH DISPLAY. "SERVICE STABILITRAC, ABS, ETC. IT THEN DISPLAYS THE IGNITION ICON THAT SAYS DEPRESS BRAKE AND START VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE MUST BE PLACED IN PARK, THEN RESTARTED. THIS SAME EVENT HAS HAPPENED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT 50 MPH. NO POWER STEERING, BRAKE BOOSTER OR NOTHING. CHRYSLER IS AWARE OF THESE ISSUES IN THE 2018-19 VEHICLES AND WE HAVE BEEN DEALING WITH THEM FOR 3 MONTHS, HOWEVER THEY HAVE NO RESOLUTION PROPOSAL AND FEEL IT OK TO KEEP THIS TYPE OF LIABILITY ON THE ROAD......NOT ACCEPTABLE.

MY 2018 CHRYSLER PACIFICA CAR STOPPED WHILE I WAS DRIVING. I HAD SLOWED DOWN TO MAKE A LEFT TURN AND IT SHUT ITSELF OFF. IT QUICKLY FLASHED A MESSAGE ABOUT STABILITY CONTROL AND THEN SHOWED STOP, START, RESTART REQUIRED. THE CAR WAS STILL IN DRIVE. WHEN I TRIED PRESSING THE BRAKE IT WAS VERY HARD AND WOULDN'T MOVE. I PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND TRIED SHUTTING IT OFF AND RESTARTING IT, BUT COULDN'T. I HAD A LINE OF CARS BEHIND ME, INCLUDING A SCHOOL BUS AND PUT MY HAZARDS ON. I'M NOT SURE HOW MANY TRIES IT TOOK, BUT I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO GET IT TO START AND DRIVE HOME. I HAVE SINCE DRIVEN THE CAR WITHOUT INCIDENT BUT I AM VERY NERVOUS THAT IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN. WHEN IT DOES STALL OUT, THE DASH DISPLAYS 'ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL. REQUIRES RESTART.' I HAVE ALMOST BEEN IN MULTIPLE ACCIDENTS DUE TO THIS ISSUE. VEHICLE WAS BRIEFLY STOPPED IN TRAFFIC AT A LIGHT WITH ELECTRONIC START-STOP ENGAGED. WHEN FOOT WAS REMOVED FROM THE BRAKE, THE ENGINE STARTED BACK UP MOMENTARILY THEN SPUTTERED TO A STOP. THE ENGINE START/STOP BUTTON AND SHIFT KNOB WERE UNRESPONSIVE (COULD NOT SHIFT GEARS). NEUTRAL OVERRIDE CORD WAS PULLED, BUT INEFFECTIVE BECAUSE ELECTRONIC PARKING BRAKE STILL SEEMED TO BE ENGAGED. THE VEHICLE COULD NOT BE MOVED OUT OF TRAFFIC INTO A SAFE LOCATION AND HAD TO BE TOWED TO DEALERSHIP. HEATING AND POWER WINDOWS TURNED OFF AS WELL, AND POSSIBLY THE HAZARD LIGHTS WERE INEFFECTIVE (UNSURE BECAUSE IT WAS UNSAFE TO LEAVE THE VEHICLE AND CHECK).

THE VAN THEN SHUT OFF IN MORNING RUSH HOUR WHILE SHE WAS DRIVING AT AROUND 40 MPH. THE VEHICLE LOST ALL POWER AND ABILITY TO SAFELY STEER AND BRAKE WITH THE ELECTRIC ASSIST. SHE WAS ABLE TO SLOWLY GET THE VAN TO A STOP ON A SIDE STREET. THE VAN IS AT THE DEALER NOW AND THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IS WRONG WITH IT. PROBLEM OCCURS AT SLOW SPEEDS OR WHEN STOPPED. THE CAR COMPLETELY SHUTS OFF. THEN WE HAVE TO QUICKLY SWITCH INTO PARK, RESTART, THEN SWITCH INTO DRIVE. THIS HAS HAPPENED AT LEAST 8 TIMES WHILE DRIVING. IT IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. CHRYSLER SAID TO TURN OF FRONT COLLISION WARNING COLLISION UNTIL THEY HAVE A SOLUTION. SINCE THAT TEMP FIX, THE CAR FAIL 2 MORE TIMES ON 3/6/19. ONCE WHILE MAKING A LEFT TURN IT DIED BEFORE THE TURN WAS COMPLETED, AND ONCE MORE COMING OUT OF A PARKING LOT TURNING ONTO A MAIN ROAD. MSG APPEARED TO PUT CAR IN PARK TO RESTART. CAR RESTARTED IMMEDIATELY. THIS PROBLEM SOUNDS SIMILAR TO 2018 RECALL U87 FOR ENGINE STALLING, BUT MY VIN IS NOT COVERED IN RECALL. ALSO, NOTE THE 2017 RECALL U01 FOR ENGINE STALLING. SOME CONSUMERS NOTED IN THEIR COMPLAINTS THAT THE "FIX" DID NOT WORK. THIS IS VERY TROUBLING!! SITTING AT STOP LIGHT WAITING FOR IT TO CHANGE WHEN ENGINE JUST TURNED OFF. DIDN'T KNOW WHAT HAD JUST HAPPENED OR WHAT TO DO, AFRAID I WOULD GET REAR-ENDED. LIGHT TURNED GREEN AND I HAD NO POWER. I PUT VAN IN PARK, PUSHED THE IGNITION START BUTTON, VAN STARTED AND I WAS ABLE TO PROCEED IN TRAFFIC. DIDN'T KNOW IF PROBLEM WAS RELATED TO THE FEATURE WHERE ENGINE TURNS OFF WHEN STOPPED IN TRAFFIC, THEN TURNS BACK ON WHEN YOU PRESS THE GAS. I PUSHED THE BUTTON SO ENGINE WOULDN'T TURN OFF UNTIL I GOT HOME SAFELY. NEAR ZERO OUTSIDE TEMPS AND I THOUGHT VEHICLE HAD DIED. LUCKILY, DRIVER BEHIND ME WAS PAYING ATTENTION AND DIDN'T JUMP THE GUN WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN OR I DEFINITELY WOULD HAVE BEEN REAR-ENDED. APPARENTLY THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT OTHER PACIFICA DRIVERS HAVE EXPERIENCED. IT NEEDS TO BE FIXED BEFORE SOMEONE IS HURT. MAKES ME VERY UNEASY TO DRIVE IT NOT KNOWING WHEN IT MIGHT HAPPEN AGAIN. 2018 CHRYSLER PACIFICA PURCHASED NEW. WHEN THE STOP/START FUNCTION IS ACTIVATED, THE ENGINE WILL COMPLETELY SHUT OFF WHILE IDLING AT STOPLIGHTS OR STOP SIGNS, AND PACIFICA HAS TO BE SHIFTED INTO PARK AND RESTARTED. (THIS HAPPENS INTERMITTENTLY AND OCCURS GOING STRAIGHT ON THE ROADWAY AND TURNING LEFT OR RIGHT.) CHIMES SOUND AND DASHBOARD DISPLAY FLASHES A MESSAGE ABOUT ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL, ENGINE COMPLETELY STALLS OUT, AND THEN SHOWS A MESSAGE TO PUT VEHICLE IN PARK AND TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. STARTED OCCURRING AROUND 11K MILES AND HAS HAPPENED 8 TIMES TO DATE. SEVERAL VISITS TO THE CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP INCLUDE: FIRST VISIT WAS A SOFTWARE UPDATE AND THAT DIDN'T FIX THE ISSUE. SECOND VISIT WAS TO REPLACE BOTH BATTERIES AS BOTH REPORTEDLY FAILED THEIR TESTS, AND THAT DIDN'T FIX IT. OPENED A CHRYSLER CARE CASE AFTER 7TH ENGINE STALLING INCIDENT. THIRD VISIT WAS TO ADD A DATA RECORDER. CAPTURED DATA ON 8TH STALLING INCIDENT. CHRYSLER IS UNWILLING TO REPORT WHAT INFO WAS LEARNED FROM THE DATA RECORDER AND WHETHER ROOT ISSUE HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED. FOURTH VISIT TO CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP AFTER DATA RECORDING CAPTURE INCLUDED REPLACING THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR, AND CHRYSLER BELIEVES THAT WILL FIX THE ISSUE. WE PURCHASED OUR 2018 CHRYSLER PACIFICA IN EARLY OCTOBER 2018 AND HAVE SINCE PUT LESS THAN 3,000 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. TODAY, WHILE DRIVING ON A LEVEL RURAL ROAD NEAR OUR HOME, A COUPLE OF WARNING LIGHTS STARTED FLASHING OUT OF NOWHERE: ONE INDICATING THAT BLIND-SPOT MONITORING WAS DISABLED, AND ANOTHER RE: ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL. NOT LONG AFTER WE STARTED UP A HILL A HALF-MILE LATER, THE ACCELERATOR STOPPED RESPONDING. WE WERE SLOWING DOWN. THEN, THE CAR BASICALLY STALLED AND CAME TO A STOP. MORE WARNING LIGHTS AND SOUNDS CAME ON, INCLUDING A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, AND ONE INDICATING THAT WE NEEDED TO SERVICE THE TRANSMISSION. THEN ON THE DISPLAY ABOVE THE WHEEL, A MESSAGE SAID THAT WE NEEDED TO TURN OFF THE ENGINE TO ENGAGE THE PARKING BRAKE. WE CALLED 911 IN HOPES OF HAVING AN OFFICER HELP DIRECT TRAFFIC WHILE WE WAITED FOR A TOW, AS WE WERE STOPPED AROUND A CURVE AND AT A HIGH RISK OF GETTING REAR-ENDED. THE CAR WASN'T RESPONDING WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO TURN THE ENGINE OFF. I WASN'T ABLE TO SHIFT THE CAR INTO PARK, EITHER (THE LIGHT ABOVE EACH GEAR FLASHED WHEN I TRIED TO SHIFT AWAY FROM DRIVE). ALSO, THE HAZARD LIGHTS WOULDN'T TURN ON, AND NOR WOULD THE PARKING BRAKE (I HAD TO KEEP MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE TO PREVENT THE CAR FROM ROLLING BACKWARD DOWN THE HILL). AS WE WAITED FOR THE TOW TRUCK, THE LIGHTS ON THE DASH CONTINUED TO FLASH AND THE ALARMS CONTINUED ON. AT SOME POINT, I ONCE AGAIN TRIED TO TURN THE CAR OFF. IT WORKED. THEN, WHEN I TURNED THE CAR ON AGAIN, ONLY A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER ALSO HAD NO ISSUE REVERSING THE VAN UP ONTO THE BED OF HIS TRUCK.

WHILE DRIVING OUR 2018 CHRYSLER PACIFICA ON I-95 SOUTH IN NH, TRAFFIC CAME TO AN ABRUPT STOP AND WE REAR-ENDED A JEEP WRANGLER AT APPROXIMATELY 30-40 MPH. I BRAKED FOR ABOUT 20 FT AND STRUCK THE JEEP. OUR AIRBAGS DEPLOYED AND THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT IMMEDIATELY BURST INTO FLAMES UPON IMPACT. THE FLAMES WERE SO IMMEDIATE AND SO VIOLENT THAT MY WIFE AND I ONLY HAD TIME TO REMOVE OUR YOUNG DAUGHTERS FROM THE MIDDLE ROW OF THE VEHICLE. THE ACCIDENT ITSELF WAS MINOR, THE JEEP WAS ABLE TO DRIVE AWAY AFTER THE ACCIDENT. OUR PACIFICA WAS A COMPLETE LOSS AS A RESULT OF THE FIRE. ...*BF.. UPDATED 10/30/18*JB

DEALERSHIP AS WELL AS CHRYSLER, KEEP TELLING ME THAT MY VEHICLE YEAR IS NOT AFFECTED BUT MY CAR KEEPS STALLING AT INTERSECTIONS! I HAVE ALMOST BEEN HIT TWO TIMES WITH MY CHILD IN THE CAR. THEY HAVE HAD MY VEHICLE FOR MORE THAN 42 DAYS IN THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND SAY THEY CANNOT RECREATE THE PROBLEM IN ORDER TO FIX IT. I EVEN HAVE VIDEO TAPE DOCUMENTING WHAT HAPPENS. IF I STOP AT A LIGHT, OR AM DRIVING VERY SLOW MY VEHICLE SHUTS OFF! AN INDICATOR ON MY DASH STATES TO PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK AND RE-START IT! THIS IS NOT SAFE WHEN YOU HAVE PEOPLE BEHIND YOU READY TO GO AT A GREEN LIGHT AND YOU ARE STALLED! I REFUSE TO DRIVE THIS VEHICLE ON THE ROAD AND JEOPARDIZE MY FAMILIES SAFETY. PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS ISSUE. I AM STUCK PAYING A BRAND NEW LEASE PAYMENT FOR A VEHICLE THAT I AM NOT ABLE TO DRIVE!

WORRIED THAT POWER FAILURE COULD HAPPEN WHILE CAR IS IN MOTION. DEALER WOULD NOT REPLACE CAR UNLESS WE GAVE ALL 10S ON SURVEY, WHICH WE REFUSE TO DO. 2018 PACIFICA WITH 5450 MILES ON IT. WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AT 60 MPH WITH ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL ENGAGED, VEHICLE SUDDEN APPEARED TO STOP RUNNING. VEHICLE HAD BEEN OPERATING PERFECTLY NORMAL WITH NO INDICATION OF A PROBLEM UNTIL IT STARTED TO QUICKLY LOSE SPEED AND HAD NO RESPONSE FROM ACCELERATOR PEDAL. MESSAGE ON DASHBOARD SAID TO PLACE VEHICLE IN PARK AND PRESS START BUTTON. I'M NOT SURE IF THE ENGINE WAS ACTUALLY IDLING OR IF IT HAD COMPLETELY STOPPED RUNNING. I DID NOT NOTICE A LOSS OF POWER STEERING OR BRAKES. COASTED OVER TO SHOULDER, PLACED IN PARK AND TRIED TO RESTART. THE ENGINE WOULD START, BUT ONLY IDLE AT ABOUT 600 RPM. ACCELERATOR PEDAL HAD NO EFFECT ON ENGINE RPM AND I COULD NOT SHIFT OUT OF PARK. SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF AND RESTARTED IT SEVERAL TIMES WITH SAME RESULT OVER A 3 MINUTE PERIOD. THEN I SWITCHED THE AUTO START/STOP BUTTON INTO THE OFF (DEFEAT SETTING) AND WAS IMMEDIATELY ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE, WHICH THEN OPERATED AS NORMAL. SINCE THIS INCIDENT YESTERDAY, THE VEHICLE HAS OPERATED AS NORMAL AND HAS REPORTED NO FAULTS THROUGH THE U-CONNECT APPLICATION. CLEAR WEATHER WITH TEMPERATURE NEAR 100 DEGREES WHEN THIS INCIDENT OCCURRED. BOTH KEYLESS REMOTES FOR THE VEHICLE WERE INSIDE THE VEHICLE, MINE IN MY POCKET AND MY WIFE'S IN HER PURSE. BEFORE HEADING OUT ON THIS TRIP I HAD USED THE REMOTE START FUNCTION AND ALLOWED THE VEHICLE TO RUN IN REMOTE START MODE UNTIL IT TIMED OUT. THEN HAD REMOTE STARTED THE VEHICLE A SECOND TIME BEFORE SWITCHING IT TO NORMAL RUN MODE BEFORE LEAVING THE PARKING LOT. THIS WAS ABOUT 40 MINUTES BEFORE THE EVENT HAPPENED. IT OCCURRED TO ME THAT THE MESSAGES THAT WERE DISPLAYED ON THE DASH WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS INOPERABLE WERE SIMILAR, OR POSSIBLY IDENTICAL TO MESSAGES DISPLAYED DURING THE REMOTE START FUNCTION, WHICH IS WHY I THOUGHT OF SWITCHING THE AUTO START/STOP BUTTON TO THE DEFEAT POSITION.

6/20 THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. THE DEALERSHIP CLAIMED THAT THEY PERFORMED THE DTC INSPECTION AND A SYSTEM UPDATE (TO PREVENT VEHICLE FROM STALLING). THE VEHICLE TURNED OFF AND WAS UNABLE TO START AND HAD TO BE TOWED BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP. I HIT A CURB AND IF I WAS NOT AN EXPERIENCED DRIVER I COULD HAVE KILLED SOMEONE OR MYSELF OR MY 3 CHILDREN COULD HAVE BEEN HARMED IF THEY WERE IN THE VEHICLE. I HAVE PROVIDED A VIDEO OF THE INCIDENT ON MY YOUTUBE AND THE DOCUMENTATION FROM WHAT THE DEALERSHIP SAID THEY PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE. THIS CAR NEEDS TO BE RECALLED AND OFF OF THE ROAD. ON MAY 23, 2018 I WAS IN ROUTE TO WORK PER NORMAL. IT WAS ABOUT 8:30 AM. THE CAR WAS STATIONARY IN THE LEFT HAND TURN LANE (SECOND FROM RIGHT LANE) ON A 6 LANE BUSY CITY STREET WAITING FOR A RED LIGHT TO TURN GREEN SO I COULD TURN LEFT/NORTH ONTO NEXT STREET. THE CAR WAS IN DRIVE WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE. AS THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN I TOOK MY FOOT FROM THE BRAKE TO THE ACCELERATOR AND THE CAR SUDDENLY POWERED DOWN. I PUT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE, PUT IN PARK, TURNED OFF THE CAR, AND THEN PUSHED START AGAIN. THE CAR STARTED BUT WOULD NOT MOVE OUT OF PARK. I RETRIED SEVERAL TIMES WITH NO LUCK TO GET THE CAR OUT OF PARK AND MOVE FORWARD. I PUT ON MY HAZARDS AS CARS STARTED TO STACK UP BEHIND ME WHILE I WAS MOTIONING FOR TRAFFIC TO GO AROUND ME. I TRIED AGAIN TO RESTART AND WHILE THE CAR WOULD RESTART, I COULD NOT MOVE IT OUT OF PARK AND WAS STUCK THERE. WITH MY HAZARDS ON, I CALLED THE POLICE TO ASSIST AND THEN TRIED TO USE MY UCONNECT TO REACH MY 'FREE' ROADSIDE ASSITANCE USING MY ASSIST BUTTON. I GOT AN ERROR MESSAGE MULTIPLE TIMES THAT IT WOULD NOT CONNECT. I FOUND THE 800 NUMBER AND MANUALLY DIALED MYSELF. AFTER ABOUT A 10 MINUTE PROCESS I FINALLY WAS ABLE TO ORDER SERVICE VIA THE TEXT PROCESS THAT WAS SENT TO ME. IT TOOK ANOTHER 5 MINUTES BEFORE I RECEIVED CONFIRMATION THAT TOW TRUCK WAS ORDERED. POLICE ARRIVED. I CALLED BACK TO DETERMINE HOW LONG TOW TRUCK WOULD TAKE TO FIND IT WAS 90 MINUTES. THIS WAS UNACCEPTABLE DUE TO MY LOCATION AND THE TRAFFIC BACKUP. I CALLED MY DEALER DIRECTLY AND THEY SENT SERVICE WITHIN 30 MINUTES. THE DEALER IMMEDIATELY RECEIVED A CALL FROM CHRYSLER STAR TEAM (DUE TO THE ROADSIDE REPORT I FILED) AND THEY HAD MY CAR FOR ONE WEEK. I HAVE THE CAR BACK NOW AND THERE ARE NO SOLID EXPLANATIONS AS TO WHY THIS HAPPENED. I KNOW THAT CHRYSLER WAS VERY INVOLVED IN HAVING DEALER PERFORM MULTIPLE TESTS. THANKFUL I WAS NOT ON FREEWAY.
