At 48,445 miles, the vehicle's engine experienced a catastrophic internal failure involving Cylinders 4 and 6. The failure resulted in a sudden loss of motive power and engine misfires while the vehicle was in operation, creating a severe safety hazard and risk of stalling in active traffic. A certified mechanic performed a cylinder leak-down and compression test, confirming internal engine failure consistent with the known 3.6L Pentastar cylinder head/gasket manufacturing defects. The vehicle is now unsafe to operate. This failure occurred well before the expected useful life of the powertrain and appears consistent with the defects alleged in the class action Maugain et al. v. FCA US LLC. No warning lights illuminated prior to the immediate failure.
Head Gasket Blew at 102,000 Miles which caused windows to fog up on freeway.
The vehicle stalls while driving without any notice. This van has a start/stop function and it malfunctions. There are two separate batteries that control this function and both of them have been replaced. The entire steering rack and steering column have had to be replaced. The front suspension has also had to be replaced because the tires wear out very quickly. The alternator, radiator, and motor mounts have also had to be replaced. The van is available for inspection. At the moment the vehicle will not start and I have been advised that it needs a new starter. This vehicle is a safety risk and it puts others at risk as well. These problems have been diagnosed and confirmed by at least three different service centers including a Chrysler dealership. I generally do not get any warning lamps, messages, or symptoms when the van stalls.
This letter concerns repeated and life-threatening failures involving the transmission system in my 2018 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid (CA License Plate: 8CEF638, VIN: 2C4RC1N79JR172609), covered under your lifetime transmission warranty for this model. Following two confirmed incidents resulting in unexpected engine shutdowns and critical transmission faults, I am formally demanding a full replacement of the faulty transmission assembly as required under California lemon laws and the issued lifetime warranty extension. Summary of Incidents & Reference to NHTSA Action NHTSA Action Number: RQ24004 pertains specifically to transmission wiring defects, resulting in short circuits and loss of motive power. Vehicle was put into reverse and did not stop, it hit a pole. Then the driver tried to put in drive to get it off of the pole and it accelerated quickly and the driver could not stop the vehicle. There was little time to react as it hit the side of a building and airbags deployed. Driver stated that the car accelerated on it's own once it was put into gear.
This van is a 2018 modified with a handicap accessible rear ramp. We purchased this van in 2021 and since it has spent 6 months the first time at the shop then it was at our facility totally not running for another 6 months we paid 400 dollars to tow it to a dealership they replaced the transmission it ran for 2 months and now doesn’t start it’s in limp mode and when it does start and run when your driving it loses all power suddenly. We have only put 3800 miles on this van in the time we’ve had it and we owe over 25,000 still on it. Nobody can figure out what’s wrong with it but we are very small residential care facility and we are unable to transport residents because we have a broken van that we still pay for do we can’t purchase another one.
I was driving and the van suddenly lost all propulsion. Brakes and steering and dash lights functioned, but there was a red turtle icon and error message about a system failure. The accelerator pedal did nothing at all. I was able to coast off the side of the road to a place to pull over, but that could have been a terrible accident if I lost power like that on I-95 or any other major highway. My husband came and we switch cars (kids, car seats, etc) and he was able to get the van to start after half an hour. It had check engine lights on for things, but the dealer said to bring it in because it was drivable again. Despite brining it in as told, with check engine lights on that they saw, they said they could not reproduce it and couldn't find codes for the check engine light (even though I pulled them from my own OBD2 diagnostic plug tool and took photos of the codes) and eventually said I have to take the car back, despite no cause or resolution. These cars have known faulty battery issues and a large number have been replaced already, but Chrysler isn't authorizing dealers to do that unless they can reliably reproduce the failure. Very frustrating to see Chrysler not go the route of other manufacturers who sourced their batteries from the same plant and ended up proactively replacing them for consumers. While Chrysler's many recalls for the hybrid battery system software have probably made it detect faults earlier to try to prevent fires, they are still known to happen, but now in addition to a fire risk, we also have a car that has a much higher chance of just losing power while driving due to over sensitive battery monitoring, or a plain old faulty battery that just isn't faulty 'enough' for Chrysler to authorize a replacement. So frustrating and dangerous.
While driving, the Pacifica lost all engine power in the middle of an intersection while traveling at 34 mph. All the dash lights blinked and sounded alerts. The car then showed U1267 and U0416 diagnostic codes.
After safety recall 73B was performed on my 2018 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid on 08/25/2025, the vehicle's check engine light illuminated on 09/09/2025. I was inundated with multiple failure lights including; check engine, service electronic throttle control, service hybrid electric vehicle system, blind spot alert, and I felt like I lost power steering. I was unsure if the van was safe to drive, but was able to get it to the dealership. They were able to pull multiple codes. Including the one for the check engine light. They decided that the problem was related to the ABS control module. They replaced it and the van has been fine so far. It seems these error codes are widespread after performing recall 73B. Many other customers are complaining of the same thing. I believe these errors are from the testing to the High Voltage battery, and their 'software fix'. It's not safe to lose your power steering while driving. It's not safe to have multiple error codes continuously going off while operating the car. It's not safe to have a family car that we have been told twice to not park in the garage, charge, or park near a structure. This is their second attempt at 73B, and overall the second fire recall. My van and high voltage battery are definitely available for inspection.
The contact owns a 2018 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated while driving at undisclosed low speeds, the electric power steering stopped functioning properly after the contact heard an abnormal crunching sound coming from the front end of the vehicle. The contact also stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle briefly jerked and jolted during acceleration as if the transmission was slamming into gear. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for regular maintenance service, and the contact was informed that the motor mounts needed to be replaced. The vehicle failures were not diagnosed during regular maintenance service. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 121,000.
Mileage: 121,000
The vehicle jerks or hesitates to shift into gear when I get near 35 mph. It is forceful and loud. Somewhat like initial jerk pulling off from a roller coaster. My safety and the safety of my children have been at risk because slow moving vehicles are a hinderance to the flow of traffic. I have almost been rear-ended several times as the speed limit has increased in an area and I can't increase my speed as quickly as others behind me. Also, the delayed acceleration with the force of the jerk causes me to move forward too fast. This seems to be a transmission problem that all of the dealers in the area try to ignore. They claim they cannot reproduce the error but it happens each time I drive it. The vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, nor insurance representatives as I have not YET had an accident from this safety issue. There were no warning signs when the issue first appeared. I first noticed it the day after purchasing it from Westgate Chrysler Jeep Dodge RAM, 6421 Old Westgate Rd, Raleigh, NC 27617. I reported the issue to them within days of noticing and brought the vehicle in several times for troubleshooting. I have since switched servicing over to Crossroads Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Henderson. They recognized that my batteries were both dying and replaced both of those. That never stopped the jerking/hesitating, it just made it less intense. I brought it into that dealership as well for this issue several times and they cannot reproduce the issue either. I have searched online for solutions and on a Pacifica forum online, many other owners note this issue with low mileage on their vehicle. This is indeed a manufacturer issue that it seems the manufacturer wants to cover up and dealers have no solution for it because of this.
When beginning to move from a stop, the transmission occasionally does not engage for a few seconds and allows the vehicle to drift unexpectedly before it slips in gear and moves. Also, occasionally when shifting gears once moving, the transmission “pops” into gear, which feels as if I have been rear-ended. This has been happening for a few years and has been at the dealership 5 or so times with no resolution.
The transmission KICKS into 2nd gear at times and it feels like I've been rear ended. Also sometimes when that happens the car will accelerate on it's own, I am surprised that I haven't hit anything or anybody when that happens. And other times it will cut out altogether and loses power. This is definitely a safety issue. I can't understand why Chrysler will not do anything about this issue. It can be very dangerous. This has been going on for the 4 years that I have had the van.
I am writing to formally report ongoing and unresolved electrical issues with my 2018 Chrysler Pacifica. Despite replacing both the main and auxiliary batteries, several components continue to fail, including: •The third-row power seats, which do not function at all or operate intermittently, rendering them impossible to stow or adjust. There is no manual override, which is a serious design flaw for families. •The rear liftgate, which starts to open and then immediately closes without completing its cycle. •The passenger-side rear entertainment screen, which is completely non-functional while the driver’s side screen works normally. These issues have severely impacted the usability and reliability of the vehicle. The third-row seat and tailgate problems, in particular, compromise safety and convenience—especially for families with children. The third-row power seat design lacks a manual fallback, which could leave passengers stuck in emergency situations. The liftgate’s failure to open fully and the battery system’s unreliability and constant need for replacement (around every 1.5/2 years) has left my stranded countless times. These electrical issues need recalls and solutions.
While attempting to accelerate experiencing a loss of power, an/or hard shifting. Pulling out from parking lot or street from a stop, there is a delay in getting the car to move. Moves slowly but then gradually builds up. Also at times there appears to be shifting issue, when attempting to accelerate the vehicle will do a hard jolt forward. In reviewing online this jolting is a common theme with the pacific but yet there has been no further action taken by Chrysler. Told my two different mechanics that Pacifica's are known to have issues with their transmissions and that I should not expect any type of recall for this due to the potential cost.
Vehicle engine shuts off while driving down the road. Will start up after a few minutes. Traction control light and auto start stop light will come on. Random right wheel noise will come and go. Have had multiple mechanic shops check vehicle with no findings. Vehicle loses all power when shuts down.
The contact owns a 2018 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the transmission shifted into gear very hard. In addition, the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed with transmission failure. The contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact referenced an unknown recall however, the VIN was not under recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 113,000.
Mileage: 113,000
The vehicle randomly stalls, goes dead and becomes unresponsive. This has happened numerous times at lights, stop signs and in the middle of the road.
My transmission went out at 108,000 miles. 6 out of 9 gears went bad. Had it replaced and it went out again 2 weeks later. The transmission dropped while I was driving but luckily I was pulling into a parking spot. Had to have another transmission installed. This scared me because my kid was in the car and was on the expressway a couple of minutes before it dropped. Also, the oil filter housing was cracked and I know this is a common problem because it is made of plastic.
The contact owns a 2018 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated that while driving on several occasions, after the vehicle was stopped, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to respond as needed with an abnormal clunking sound while the transmission shifted from 1st to 2nd gear. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that on one occasion while stopped at a red light, the transmission failed to shift into 2nd gear from the 1st gear. The vehicle was pushed over to the side of the road for approximately 20 minutes. The contact then pressed the PUSH to START button twice, held the accelerator pedal for 10 seconds, turned the vehicle off for two minutes, and then restarted the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an Auto Parts store where a handheld diagnostic tool retrieved DTC: P0732. The contact stated that the code was cleared. The vehicle was taken to the same dealer however, the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 30,000.
Mileage: 30,000
Power steering went out and can’t back on
The contact owns a 2018 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated while driving 30-35 MPH, the vehicle made an abnormal beeping sound. The message "Stop Safely - Vehicle will shut off soon" was displayed, and the vehicle stalled. Several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The contact was able to pull over to the side of the road. The vehicle was able to restart, and the contact continued driving. The contact stated that the failure had previously occurred while her husband was driving at an undisclosed speed. The contact's husband was able to pull to the side of the road, and the vehicle was able to restart after an extended period. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed as a low voltage failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Action Number: PE22008 (Power Train). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 73,692.

Had vehicle towed to Orange Coast Chrysler Jeep Dodge and Ram 11/4/24 due to vehicle being unable to start. Error message in vehicle indicated "Service Hybrid System"" and "Service Charging System" Vehicle was left at dealership pending inspection. 12/5/24 I contacted dealer asking for update and was told Chrysler STAR case was opened for vehicle for hybrid battery. No further information was provided. 1/5/25 I contacted dealer again for update. Was told Chrysler engineer had attempted diagnosis/ repair of vehicle including application of current recall 73B (NHTSA Recall ID 22V-077) but was unsuccessful. Was told another Chrysler engineer must be brought in to assess/ repair vehicle.
The car shifts really hard going into 2nd gear, it feels like I've been rear-ended. It is awful. Also sometimes it loses power then accelerates on its own. Both issues are safety issues. this happens several times a weeks for the last 3 years.
[XXX] [XXX] [XXX] National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Office of Defects Investigation 1200 New Jersey Avenue SE Washington, DC 20590 Subject: Complaint Regarding Recurrent Mechanical Issues and Potential Safety Concerns with 2018 Chrysler Pacifica Dear NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation, I am writing to formally report repeated mechanical issues with my 2018 Chrysler Pacifica (VIN [XXX] ), which have raised significant concerns regarding the vehicle’s reliability and safety. In 2023, my vehicle initially experienced a persistent ticking noise in the engine, leading to extensive repairs. These included replacing the tappets, rockers, and timing chain tensioner on the right bank of the engine. Following these repairs, the vehicle exhibited low oil pressure, ultimately requiring a complete long block replacement. These issues left the vehicle out of service for nearly two months, significantly disrupting our daily lives. Despite these major repairs, my Pacifica has recently developed overheating issues, necessitating the replacement of the radiator at an estimated cost of over $2,000. The vehicle has less than 60,000 miles, and I find it deeply concerning that such critical mechanical issues are occurring at such low mileage. These repeated failures suggest a potential underlying defect in the design or manufacturing of this vehicle, which could present a safety risk. An overheating engine, for instance, poses a potential hazard both to the occupants and to other road users. As a police officer and parent of three young children, I rely on this vehicle for my family’s safety and transportation. I respectfully request that the NHTSA investigate whether these issues are indicative of a broader defect in 2018 Chrysler Pacifica models. I believe an investigation could help identify potential safety risks to other owners and encourage Chrysler to address these problems proactively INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
An engine fault code for P0303 has become active on my 2018 Pacifica. This code was confirmed by an independent service center and confirmed that the code is active. The service center ran a compression test and showed that cylinder three is low on compression. They then ran a hydrocarbon test and confirmed exhaust in the coolant. This diagnosis points to the common issue related to a bad head gasket potentially due to a warped head/block. The car has never overheated and all service maintained.

Vehicle just dies when you brake. This has now happened twice. Once in May 2024 and now Oct 2024. You have no steering and cannot be put into neutral or park. Must pull neutral cord to get pushed out of road. No codes pull up other than the neutral cord used. In May 2024 towed to dealer and they replaced starter but could not find anything else. In Oct 2024, took it to an independent car place and he could not find anything wrong, just re-boot computer. This is very dangerous; this is a handicap van modified for a wheelchair person to be put in through the back of the van. If I get hit in the back, I can't get my son out of the van. Extremely unsafe! I know the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica's were recalled for this and I believe the powertrain control module software was updated or the chip was replaced. This needs to be recalled for the 2018's also.
I left work one day and I stopped at Walmart once I was done there, I got into my car to leave when I attempted to start my car all of the dash board lights illuminated although my car turned over it would not engage into gear. I did notice that all the dashboard lights illuminated simultaneously, which was quite alarming. This happened not once, but twice both times when I went to start the car however the second time I immediately drove it to the dealer for service. This left me concerned about what might be causing the issue. Only for the dealer to tell me it is my transmission and it would cost me $10,000.00 to fix it as a blue collar worker I have absolutely know idea what I am going to do. I then began to research the car only to find out that this year, make & model has a recall on the transmission describing the exact symptoms I am having. Please help!!!!!! my lively hood depends on me being able to get to work!
I have a 2018 Chrysler Pacifica with 50k miles and it is still covered under the powertrain warranty. 1. I had a check engine light with code as "misfire on cylinder 6" in August of 2024. I had all spark plugs and engine coils replaced. 2. I drove the vehicle for one week before the engine light came back on with the same code, and then the vehicle wouldn't start. It was towed to a dealer. 3. A dealer replaced the starter assembly and valve body. 4. I drove the vehicle for 2 days before the engine light came back on with code as misfire to a different cylinder. 5. I am now being told by the dealer that I need to replace both cylinder heads, both cylinder head gaskets, timing cover gaskets, valve cover gaskets, valve cover gaskets and the coil boots (again) because they were ruined the the failure/leaks in the other parts.
The check engine light recently came on, and there was an issue with starting and idling, so we replaced the battery and the light went off, but would randomly come back on. One day notice the vehicle as overheating, and found the coolant tank to be completely empty. Refilled the tank, and several days later the problem arose again. Checked under the van immediately after refilling, no leaks detected. Took van to the dealership and was told the head gasket was bad, and the coolant was leaking into cylinder 3. Recommended repairs noted are as follows: “HEAD GASKET IS BAD. LEAKING ON CYLINDER 3. NEEDS A NEW HEAD AND GASKET TO FIX ISSUE. WILL ALSO NEED CAMS, LIFTERS, AND ROCKERS DUE TO THE TICKING COMING FROM THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE MOTOR” I’ve seen that apparently, this is a more than common issue specifically with the 2018 Chrysler Pacifica. Others have recommended a total engine replacement, as the damage caused thus far is significant enough that replacing only the head and gasket would be, as quoted, “a very expensive bandaid.” This is the only vehicle we have available for my wife and four small kids, and to see that it’s such a common and, thus far ignored problem is infuriating to say the least. Vehicle was purchased 2 years ago, and has depreciated $21,000 in that short amount of time. Repairs are estimated around $6000. Vehicle value is estimated around negative $12,000, so we’re stuck with a faulty vehicle regardless. With the overwhelming number of complaints regarding this issue, almost verbatim, there is absolutely no reason Chrysler should continue to be allowed to let this go unresolved. The fact that the vehicle depreciated so rapidly in such a short time span should be a testament in and of itself to the known and perceived quality of these vehicles, and if ever I can be rid of it, it’ll be that last Chrysler product I ever own.
Sometimes when I am accelerating it feels like I am being rear-ended. The whole vehicle jumps as if it is being pushed. I have tried to reset the Transmission by watching YouTube videos that show the same problem. But it has not fixed it. It also happens when I am driving. I am worried that it may not shift gears at all. I use it for all my long distance trips and do not want to break down on Interstate 95 in the dark. I have had it back to Auto Lenders in EHT, NJ multiple times from 2019- 2021. I gave up bringing it back because it never got fixed. Now it is happening almost every week.
2018 Pacifica with multiple similar issues. August 2018 - Recall - Reprogram Powertrain Control module May 1019 - Recall fixes (Power steering and ball joint). July 2021 - start/stop light came on - took to dealership and they replaced the battery for that system. Feb 2022 - Recall customer satisfaction notification 1 Y65 July 2022 - ISSUES begin - Cylinder misfire - and car would not start and was smoking. Van was towed to dealership. The dealership had the van for 2 months and had a difficult time really diagnosing the issue. They ended up replacing the right Cylinder head - which is a major part of the engine. Just being over the 60,000 mile mark, we had to fight with Chrysler to honor the warranty on this very expensive fix. Spark plugs were also changed at that time. August 2024 - check engine light is back on, as well as the automatic start/stop button. We took to Auto zone and the diagnosis was Cylinder 6 misfire. All along we have felt there should have been a recall on this van. Is it an electrical issue that is failing? Searching online there are a lot of these complaints about Cylinder misfiring issues with this year/model. It also looks like there may have been a class action lawsuit as well. A 4 year old van should not need a major engine repair. Now here we are 2 years later with a 6 year old van and having a similar issue. We are worried it is going to be another costly fix. We have had nothing but issues with this van and it is unacceptable, especially regarding a brand new car. We have all our receipts indicating appropriate and timely oil changes and transmission flushes, etc from the dealer.
While driving on a 4-lane highway, I received a message on the dashboard "Vehicle will shut off soon". I had just a few seconds before power to the vehicle was limited. The engine stopped working and another message was displayed: "Battery Conditioning Leave Ignition in Run." After that the car would no longer move and I was in the middle of the right lane. Luckily I could get my children out safely. The vehicle was towed to the local Chrysler dealership where it is waiting for repair.
Van currently has a P0303 code for cylinder 3. Have done research and found that this is a common issues with this vehicle. Also the stop/start needs to be service. Which is also know to happen a lot in this type of vehicle.
While driving on the highway at 70 mph with children in the car, my screen system shut off quickly and then rebooted. Was concerned something worse could happen. Randomly, my car will start fine and will drive to my location, when leaving and trying to start my push/start button it will not start. I attempt many times to start the vehicle until the battery has no power. It doesn't take much to jump the battery. I've been stranded at grocery stores, work, or other places with my children. I was driving and stopped at a stop light, and my car shut off with no noticed. Had to get jumped at an intersection. When driving my car will stall when accelerating and continue driving Both batteries have recently been changed out. I believe when reading about this its the powertrain control module. This has not been confirmed by the dealership, no engine light is on, the van drives great but I am afraid that it will not start after I've turned it off or will lock up and shut off when I am driving with my children in the vehicle. The no starts were farther in between with issues but has recently become more frequent. There are no prior issues to the vehicle. My safety and my children's safety is put at risk , hot weather when car won't start having to wait, stopping at an intersection and the van shuts off with my kids in the car , driving on highway and electronics on vehicle shuts off, possibility of losing control of vehicle. Last occurance was at a grocery store tried to turn on vehicle and it wouldn't start. Acted like it wanted too but couldn't turn over. 7/14/24 7/7/24 Driving on the highway incident at 70 mph and computer system went out. Issues have been happening for about a year now , just lately has been progressing.
The contact owns a 2018 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated that while driving at slow speeds, the vehicle transmission shifted to park with the START/STOP system warning light illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic where an unknown repair was performed; however, the failure persisted. The contact then took the vehicle to the dealer and was informed that the gear shifter module needed to be replaced. About a year later, the contact stated that the START/STOP warning light and the check engine warning light were illuminated. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where a misfire in cylinder #6 was found. The dealer flushed the engine, replaced the ignition coils, and replaced the spark plug in cylinder#6. Despite the repairs, the contact became aware of a slight engine rattle at start up. The contact continued to drive the vehicle however, the check engine and START/STOP warning lights returned. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where the contact was informed that the failure might be linked to a blown head gasket but could not determine the failure without an official diagnostic test. While the contact's husband was driving from the dealer, the engine started to overheat. The vehicle was driven to the residence and then towed to an independent mechanic and the vehicle was diagnosed with head gasket failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and advised the contact to have the vehicle towed back to the dealer to be diagnosed. The vehicle was towed back to the dealer and remained in the dealer possession. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 36,000.

At low speed 12-18 mph the transmission hard shifts. It slams so hard that you feel like someone rearended you.
I am experiencing premature transmission failure. It is available for inspection upon request. The safety of myself and my 3 small children have been put at risk because of the likely potential of transmission failure during our frequent trips on the interstate, that could lead to a deadly accident. This problem as been confirmed by an independent licensed automotive mechanic. The vehicle has not yet been inspected by any other entity, but is available for inspection. The symptoms of the problem started around March of this year, as a sweet burning smell, that lead to a smell of burning rubber. The Chrysler dealership I brought it to would not check the transmission fluid itself due to the "forever system" design of the 2018 Chrysler Pacifica, that does not allow for easy access to the transmission fluid, rather is designed to tell you if it is full or not. So the issue was missed during inspection, and was labeled as being in good condition. After I noticed the vehicle beginning to skip between 1st and 2nd gear recently (end of June), I brought it for inspection to an independent mechanic who was able to inspect the fluid which was extremely burned, as well has hook the vehicle up to their reader machine and access that it was in fact in the process of transmission failure. The transmission has not yet completely failed, because I have stopped driving the vehicle for fear of the safety of my children.
2018 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid, 49,250 miles. Vehicle has had transmission replaced once under warranty a couple of years ago. Last week, dashboard lights lit up and message read "“Stop Safely - Vehicle Will Shut Off Soon." I pulled off the road, shut it off, waited a few minutes, started it up and drove home. We were in-town going in-town speeds, so safety risk was minimal. Earlier that same day the day the HVAC fan was intermittently going higher and lower, like it couldn't decide if it should be at 5 or 2 (out of the 7 fan speeds). I don't know if that is related in any way. I made an appointment at the dealership several days later (driving it the whole time but only in town). They say it needs another transmission and have ordered one. Repair will be free.
Head gasket is leaking coolant into cylinder #5. According to the Chrysler forums, this seems to be a common problem. We are seeking to share this information so that the appropriate steps may be taken to commence a recall in order to service these vehicles. The safety of all drivers/passengers should be the pinnacle of this concern. We have 105, 000 miles on this vehicle and have experienced no other mechanical issues to this point.
My car jerks really hard when driving mostly at around 14 to 16 mph when it shifts into 2nd gear. It feels like I have been rear ended. Also occasionally it happens shifting into 3rd gear, but mostly into 2nd. Once in a while it loses power altogether and other times it accelerates on its own. I have had this to the dealer 3 times and they did a diagnostics on it but can't find anything wrong. This is not normal for the transmission to do this. When it loses power I'm afraid of somebody hitting me and when it speeds up on its own, I afraid I will hit somebody.
While driving 45+ MPH, a warning message shown stating "stop safely, vehicle will shut off soon", which is followed by loss of power and inability to control the vehicle. No error codes generated. There is an open investigation according to the NHTS website, NHTSA Action Number: RQ24004.
The contact owns a 2018 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed on an incline, the vehicle briefly lost motive before jerking forward and then returning to normal functionality. The vehicle returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular occurrence. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was opened. The failure mileage was 42,000.

Piston Number 3 is misfiring which is the from an error code. Replaced the piston 3 twice and now coolant is leaking into the engine which cause the coolant to leak into the engine. This is a safety risk since the car does not give a warning until there is no more coolant in the car which can cause a fire while driving. The issue was shown twice and confirmed by 2 independent mechanics and the dealership. The vehicle has been inspected and checked out by 2 independent mechanics and the dealership. It first appeared Feb 16 2024 when the check engine light came on and the next Monday the car lost coolant. The car also shook violently when it was started.
The engine overheated and the vehicle became with three children inside on a major New Jersey highway. This vehicle was advertised for families with kids, and appears to have a safety defect. The first sign something was wrong was when the check engine light came on; shortly after the vehicle became inoperable on the highway. We took the vehicle to several different mechanic shops, including the dealership, and we were told the vehicle has a major engine defect, either a blown head gasket or a total engine failure. The vehicle is currently at a Chrysler dealership being examined.
On [XXX] I brought my 2018 Chrysler Pacifica to Matt Bowers for some warranty work and to check a front end creaking noise that was most prominent and unstable feeling while in reverse with the wheel turned. They performed the warranty work and notified me that the noise I was hearing was from the cv axles and that they didn't need to be replaced immediately but would need replacement if they got worse and noted that it was very low mileage for this issue. (Around 40,000 miles) The noise continued but has gotten worse lately and has felt much more unsettling in reverse so I brought it to a local mechanic to confirm it was in fact the cv axles. He confirmed the axles need to be replaced and also told me he thought there was a recall relating to cv axles on the Pacifica. I looked it up and found Safety Recall U80 / NHTSA 18V-493 front halfshaft which covers Chrysler Pacificas manufactured between 2/22/2018 to 6/11/2018 with MDH of [XXX] My Pacifica's manufacture date is June of 2018 and has a MDH of [XXX] which falls within the scope of the recall. I called the FCA recall center on [XXX] at 1-800-853-1403 and was told I wasn't covered under the recall. I have no service lights on but have cv axles that are severely prematurely worn on my vehicle which only has about 60,000 miles affecting the overall safety and performance. My vehicle falls under the listed recall and Chrysler has failed to make this issue right. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
The transmission gives out and loses power to the wheels. This is very unsafe!! Was taking a left turn and lost all power and was almost hit. This happens all the time but the other day was almost my last……
When driving slow or even coasting, between 5 to 20 MPH, the transmission SLAMS, KICKS, CLUNKS with speed up little bet . You don't even have to have your foot on the gas, it just does it. It's also happened when accelerating from a low speed, like from 10 Mph to 30 mph. And happen at the freeway when leaving the gas to lower the speed will kicks and Speed up a little and one time in Crossroads my foot over the break the engine was off then i released my foot the engine start I couldn't take left because the light came red so i put it on reverse didn't move then forward same the transmission doesn't respond then i put it on parking and wait then put it reverse and moved that's i was blocking one line of my left to right side.(( Its look like with all Incident the transmission shut off and on or shift it self to N then return back D ))
Bought my 2018 Chrysler Pacifica used on December 8, 2022, with 70,649 miles on it. I have had issues with a hard shift in my power train. It doesn't do it when transmission is cold and it doesn't do it all the time. My engine light comes on, but it doesn't show any codes for the hard knock. It has been to 2 different dealers including Chrysler on several occasions without the issue being resolved.
The check engine light came on and the vehicle experienced a slight loss of power. Later the Start/Stop indicator light cam on with a message saying it has malfunctioned. Upon driving the van continues to have issues going up hills and accelerating from a stopped position. The check engine light remains steady without blinking.
Initial Symptoms: Auto-start/stop failed/tripped, plus excessive white exhaust smoke continuously exits (will not stop). Stopped driving vehicle ~26Nov2023. Problem 1: P0303 Solution 1: Ignition coil and spark plug replacements @ $905.17 (15Dec2023) Not Fixed: Error code is gone but white smoke persists. Problem 2: Chrysler tech found low coolant, traced to EGR cooler. Solution 2: Replaced EGR cooler @ $1,319.00 (05Jan2024) Not Fixed: Excessive white smoke still exits tailpipe and does not stop. Neither solution fixed the root cause. There is also an engine smoke smell in the cabin (we don't smoke). Potential Root Cause: Failed head gasket forcing coolant into the engine then burning out as white exhaust.
My vehicle lost the ability to accelerate when driving on a busy two-lane street. I was able to coast to the side of the road, but the vehicle would not move forward or backward even though the engine was running. This was the fifth time this condition has occurred, and I had the 03A Loss of Motive Power recall service performed during Summer 2023. The vehicle had to be towed - luckily nobody was directly behind us so an accident did not occur. The vehicle is currently being evaluated by the dealership for further repair. The check engine light is illuminated, but no other warning lights are illuminated at this time.
The check engine light came on after 2 weeks of owning the car. It threw a Code P0303. We replaced the coils on 1-3-5 and spark plugs on all cylinders and the check engine light came back on after 1 week. It finally would not start. Our mechanic has removed the head and gasket and discovered the cylinder 3 was full of water and water and oil in the oil pan creating a gooey sludge. This is apparently an ongoing problem with this engine to the point that gaskets to replace the head gasket are very hard to find.
The contact owns a 2018 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated that the main battery and the auxiliary battery had been replaced on multiple occasions. The dealer had not yet determined the cause of the failure. The contact stated that the frequent battery failures caused the vehicle to stall while driving at various speeds with the battery and check engine warning lights illuminated. In addition, the contact stated that the vehicle was diagnosed with a cylinder #3 misfire. Also, the contact mentioned that the vehicle would jerk forward upon depression of the accelerator pedal without warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for a diagnostic test; however, the dealer was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 46,000.

Failed cylinder head (misfire p0304). Need to have engine rebuilt or replaced. Also had oil cooler failure, losing coolant and oil. 71k miles, just over the 60k power train warranty. Need dealer to help fix but they are booked for next 3 months. Car initially cut out on the road in traffic after auto start stop, was scary and safety risk with family including kids onboard. Confirmed with independent mechanic, but also going to dealer as it is specialty work for that engine.
Engine Misfire was reported and did all the normal maintenance to correct from a certified mechanic. Misfire was still happening so I took it to a dealership and they couldn't find the issue. They wanted 2400 just to break the engine down to find the issue. A local mechanic did a coolant test and read the engine code to see that it was a coolant leak in the oil. Blown head gasket is the culprit. He suggest while you have it apart you should actually do both sides.
Loss of power, multiple times, most serious @ 70mph freeway, baby on board, 500 miles away from home. No tow, no rental, no way to get home. Previously reported to dealerships, won’t fix issue, quotes for $7k of service, issue still persist.
Cylinder head inside the engine has a Crack with antifreeze leaking into the engine. I had been driving the car prior to being able to make an appointment at the dealership. Luckily there was not a crash due to this.
- The car still has open recall Z11 ( RU PHEV hybrid traction battery fire). - The car had open recall XE1 RU PHEV transmission open. - The car became stranded refusing to put the transmission into gear. - Had to tow the car to the dealership. The dealer stated the traction battery fuse was blown. The dealer could not pinpoint the root cause of the issue, nor did chrysler have parts readily available to fix. The car still shows there's an open short. - The dealer could not complete diagnosis because of the Z11 recall. They stated that the traction battery can not complete self check procedure. - Chrysler is unresponsive in following up on the issue.
Rough idle when starting cold. Cylinder 3 misfire. Loss of coolant. Jolt when accelerating .
The transmission shifts hard when traveling around 14 mph then will jerk (like being rear ended), slows down then accelerates on its own. I'm afraid it will cause an accident. Chrysler said it is supposed to work like that and nothing is wrong with it. I have had 3 diagnostic tests done it and it shows nothing is wrong.
Warped cylinder head (right side) causing cylinder misfires and loss of power; loss of coolant. Engine could have hydrolocked while driving. Check engine/P0303 code shown 17May2023 Dealer inspected 18May2023 and found warped cylinder head. Engine: 3.6L V6 24V VVT Engine with ESS; engine origin Mexico. 2018 vehicle with 69,000 miles odometer.
Van has been clunking/slipping through transmission when accelerating. Stop/Start function error relayed and had a rough idle noticeable when started cold. Car would shut down on occasion when coming to a stop. Battery was recently replaced, assuming due to start/stop battery(also been replaced) draining main battery. Technician indicated Misfire on cylinder, coil swapped, spark plugs replaced and 100,000 mileage maintenance completed per recommendation due to scope of work. Van returned then upon first start, extremely rough idle and exhaust smelled the worst I've ever smelled, choking even. Van taken under warranty at least 2 times for transmission and abrupt shutdowns due to safety concerns with vehicle. Never replicated at dealership.
The contact owns a 2018 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated while driving 30 MPH, the vehicle started jerking. The contact stated that the air bags warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to drive to her destination. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer, but the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired and continued to experience the failure. The contact took the vehicle to a second local dealer, Miami Lakes Chrysler (16600 NW 57th Ave, Miami Lakes, FL 33014: (305) 820-3814) where it was diagnosed with needing the radiator to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but continued to experience the failure. The contact took the vehicle back to Miami Lakes Chrysler and made them aware of the failure. The dealer serviced the vehicle under NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V010000 (Electrical System, Hybrid Propulsion System). The vehicle was repaired but continued to experience the failure. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 51,000.

On three recent, separate occasions, the vehicle has lost acceleration while making a left hand turn from a stop (date listed for this incident is most recent). No visual or aural warning indications have displayed on the dash during or proximate to these incidents, but the car felt like it went out of gear while making a normal left turn. Pushing or releasing the throttle only affected engine RPM, not any acceleration, so it felt like we were only coasting. It lasts longer than a normal shift, more than a few seconds, before power is sent to the wheels again. On two of the occasions there was oncoming traffic approaching the intersection. If the power had died any sooner in the turn I'm not sure I would have cleared the intersection in time with what little speed I had gained, increasing the risk of collision. I am taking the car to the local Chrysler dealership tomorrow for inspection and hopeful diagnosis/repair. I can't replicate the issue on demand, but after 3 separate occasions, it is an unmistakable feeling. Based on the clunky, jerking shifting into gear that sometimes occurs with the vehicle outside the above-described incidents, I believe it might be transmission related, but I can't be sure.
At 63000 miles engine misfire occuered needing to replace the head gasket causing leaking coolant into the combustion chamber causing a misfire. Very concerning considering relevtivly low milleage and potential ongoing engine concerns. Wife and children were driving when check engine light went on, resulting in misfire causing car to shutter and stiring wheel shake. Car is curently being serviced at the dealer. There were no early indicators prior to this incident.
Check engine light p0303 cylinder 3 misfire. Dealership mechanic diagnosed as blown head gasket.
The contact owns a 2018 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed onto the expressway and depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle suddenly lost power and would not increase speed. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the failure had occurred on two separate occasions at the same location. The local dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 67,000.

While driving home with my pregnant wife and kids, our van seemed to cut off and coast. I got no response from the accelerator pedal, and there was a message on the dash saying "Shift to P to Start". The check engine light also illuminated. Luckily, we were able to coast and pull over in a neighborhood. I was able to shift to Park and restart the van and finish the drive home. However, the same issue and message appeared while I was parked in my driveway. The van is currently at a local Chrysler dealer for further inspection and diagnosis.
2018 Pacifica Wheelchair Accessible Van has on several occasions without warning, decelerated and stalled. Displays Place into Park and restart. Van starts sputtering & decelerates. After pulling over, waiting a few minutes it does start again. We've had the van over a year without any issues until now. We did have it at a dealership for a week. They were unable to find anything wrong with it. Very frustrating as we use this van to transport our disabled daughter. Recently we received notice of Class Action Lawsuit for this problem. Doesn't help me right now.
Sept. 12, 2022 - Ever since we have owned this vehicle, we have experienced this issue with the cruise control. Speed increases while driving downhill highways and sometimes on pretty level highways. When I decrease the speed on the controller, it sometimes maintains the speed for several seconds (slow to respond) in order to slow down while coming up behind another vehicle. I therefore need to break or turn off the cruise control. Very unpredictable. Also, speed changes a lot which sounds like shifting gears back and forth while going uphill. I had contacted the dealer originally and was told this is normal. This is ongoing. Happens every time when driving on the highway. Safety concern. The other issue we had experienced while driving on a city street, we got some odd sounds, what sounded like it was coming for the transmission. Like shifting sounds. and on another couple of occasions, we got a kind of (clunk) noise. Not sure…hard to explain. Only happened a few times over the last several months. and was brief. This in not ongoing, but a concern for failure and or safety. No warning lamps or messages
Van started running slightly rough in the mornings if the engine was cold. CEL eventually came on with a P0304 DTC. I replaced the igntion coils and spark plugs since the van was right at 80,000 miles. Seem to run fine for a day after, then issues came back. Took it to the dealership for more in-depth troubleshooting and repair. They failed to do anything after almost two weeks except that now my van wouldn't start. Took the van to a non-dealership affiliated repair shop and they said the starter had failed, but the engine passed the pressure check of the head. Waited almost another two weeks for a new starter, mechanic got it back together, found some coolant coming out of the exhaust manifold and recommended adding leak stop that there might be a small casting issue with the engine. They added leak stop and returned the van to me stating they think there was a small hole in the engine from casting and that coolant was getting by and causing the misfire. Subsequently, the coolant would then travel to the catalytic converter where it would burn off but caused the cat to be much hotter than normal and that was in-turn frying the starter which is pressed up right next to the cat. The van continued to run rough for a couple days before it finally wouldn't start again and now i'm having to have it towed back to the shop. I suspect the issue may a issue with a warped head or something even worse. A cursory search of both online forums and NHTSA reports that this is not a one off or new issue and only seems to be getting worse and more prolific as the average age of the fleet pushes towards 80-100K+ miles. Modern vehicles should be able to go 150-200k miles before head gasket issues become a serious concern.
The engine overheated while driving and required immediate attention, leaving me and my family stranded on the highway. The original code that tripped the check engine light was for a misfire in Cylinder #3, upon further inspection at the dealership it was concluded that the issue was a blown head gasket, causing the engine to overheat and fail. This was confirmed by the dealer. I have sent the issue to the manufacturer as well. There are a number of these issues in public forums. It is apparently a well known defect.
I have owned van for 1 year and taken it into the shop 6 times for blown head gasket, leaking coolant, over heating due to leaking coolant, and now it needs a new ignition coil and spark plug due to coolant leaking. Check engine light pops on every time and the van notifies me that the engine is over heating. Must pull over on the side of the road to let car cool down. Problem has been confirmed, taken to car dealer at every instance. After issue has been taken to dealer and "fixed" check engine light returns after 4-6 weeks, every time. Paperwork can be provided on request.
The contact owns a 2018 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated while driving from a complete stop, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle hesitated to respond and then surged forward. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact was able to continue driving however, the failure reoccurred several times while driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer three times where an unknown computer software was updated; however, the failure reoccurred intermittently. Additionally, the contact stated that while his wife was coming to a complete stop, the accelerator pedal was depressed but the vehicle failed to respond and stalled. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact’s wife noticed that the gear shifter had moved from drive(D) position into park(P) inadvertently. The dealer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 26,000.

My transmission jerks when shifting to first gear and sometimes when I'm going slow it feels like it is not getting gas and won't go then it will kick in and take off with acceleration that is more then it should be. The garage reset it back to manufacturer settings, but it only lasted a couple of months and it is doing it again. I'm afraid it will cause an accident.
Van showed the message "Stop safely the vehicle will shut off" and stopped on the road. It was immobile for close to 30 mins. I was able to start and drive back home. It again stopped on the road on the way to the dealer. I have seen number of complaints on this van on the internet. My van is still with the dealer and they could not fix the problem in the past 15days
Honestly it’s been one thing after another, including engine, power train and electric issues
The contact owns a 2018 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated that while parking the vehicle in her garage, the gear shifter indicator light was not illuminated while shifting from the drive (D) to park (P) and the vehicle was not able to turn off after pushing the START/STOP button. Additionally, the rear liftgate door was not able to open as needed. Several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The contact's neighbor disconnected the fuel lines and was able to turn off the vehicle; however, the instrument panel light and headlights were not able to be turned off. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 47,000.

Vehicle shifts really hard. It did on date listed but has ever since. The dealership identified problem and ordered parts but never called back when parts were ordered and is now past warranty to get it fixed.
The transmission shifts very hard. Extremely hard. On two occasions, vehicle has lost power and had to merge through Atlanta traffic to the shoulder. Extremely dangerous. We’ve taken it to the dealership service department both times and no one can find anything wrong. No recalls. We love this vehicle but are being forced to buy another brand. This is the 2nd Chrysler product that has let us down.
Vehicle stops in the middle off traffic. Engine will start but car will not move. Numerous warning lights appear such as:vehicle not in park (it is in park), rear brake assist unavailable, shift to P then desired gear, service electronic stability control, park brake temporarily unavailable. The vehicle accelerator pedal can be floured and the RPM is only 1500. After tow trick delivers me home, the vehicle will miraculously drive unimpeded for days and weeks until the very same thing happens. Repair facilities have said they can find nothing wrong/cannot duplicate.
Transmission doesn’t shift properly. Highway going normal speeds, switch lanes and when pushing gas peddle, it instead slipped and decreased speeds almost causing an accident. Dealership says nothing is wrong. Eco start stop illuminated and front collision warning light also on.
After stopping at a stop sign, I turned right to go with traffic, It seemed as though the transmission quit responding at all for several seconds. Fortunately, I was turning to the right. Scary.
I was driving about 45MPH, slowed up to a green traffic light, turned right and accelerated. The car lost power for about 5 seconds, then came back on after I had pulled to the side. We brought it in for service, but Chrysler could not duplicate or diagnose the issue. Then, twice, my wife was stopped at a stop sign or traffic light. She got a green left arrow, accelerated into her turn, and the car lost power, then resumed after about 3-5 seconds each time. After her second occurrence, my wife drove it straight to the dealership, got the service advisor to drive the vehicle with her, he turned right into another dealership, and the car lost power for 3 seconds. Again, Chrysler was unable to diagnose and repair the problem.
Car started and the shifting knob got stuck in nuetral this isn't the the first time this has happened . No mater what I tried it wouldn't budge had to the dealer twice about it they said they needed to order a part. They are in northeast Ohio Right now I am 200 miles from home on a Sunday . And hope a local dealer has the part This van has been a disappointment to say the least.
WE BOUGHT THE CHRYSLER VAN NEW IN 2018. ONE YEAR (~10,000 MILES) LATER, THE VAN DEVELOPED ROUGH UPSHIFTING. IT DOES NOT HAPPEN EVERY TIME BUT IT OCCASIONALLY BANGS INTO GEAR VERY VIOLENTLY UNDER SLOW ACCELERATION AT 30 - 35 MPH. WE TOOK THE VAN TO CHRYSLER MECHANICS BUT THEY COULD NOT REPRODUCE THE ROUGH SHIFT SO THEY WOULD NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. EVERY TIME IT HAPPENS, IT SCARES ME TO DEATH. IT FEELS LIKE A SLEDGEHAMMER HIT THE VAN!

ACCELERATION OF CHRYSLER PACIFICA WHILE DRIVING AT 55 TO 75 MILES PER HOUR WITH THE ENGINE OF VEHICLE DOES NOT SLOW DOWN BUT STAYS STUCK AND DOES NOT SLOW DOWN AND REMAINS AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED. DOCUMENTED OVER 350 INCIDENTS OF THIS SUBJECT PACIFICA FOR 3 YEARS. OFTEN, I COULD NOT STOP THE ENGINE FROM RACING AT ITS HIGHEST RATE OF SPEED WHILE ON FREEWAYS AND OTHER ROADS. THIS VEHICLES ENGINE DOES NOT SLOW DOWN AND BEGIN FORCED PUMPING OF BRAKES MAKING THE VEHICLE RISE IN HEIGHT AND.. II COULD NOT STOP THIS PACIFICA ENGINE FROM SHUTDOWN RACING ENGINE UNTIL I PLACE THE SHIFT MECHANISM IN NEUTRAL TO SLOW IT DOWN AND KEEP IN FROM CRASHING INTO A FORWARD VEHCILE OBJECT. THE ENGINE GETS STUCK IN ITS FORMER HIGHEST RATE OF SPEED FOR 30 TO 45 SECONDS.ON A GOOD NUMBER OF OCCASIONS I HAVE TAKEN THIS SUBJECT VEHICLE TO RAY LATHEM DEALERSHIP IN DETROIT, MICHIGAN. THE DEALERSHIP PUT THOUSANDS OF MILES ON MY LEASED VEHICLE AND STATED THEY DID NOT KNOW WHAT THE SAFETY STUCK ACCELERATION PROBLEM WAS. CHRYSLER WOULD NOT ACKNOWLEDGE ANY SAFETY ACCELERATION PROBLEMS AND I HAD MY VEHICLE TESTED BY SOFTWARE ENGINEERS AND THEY ADVISED ME THAT THE AFOREMENTIONED CHRYSLER PACIFICA HAS DEFECTIVE UT MODULES, POWERTRAIN CONTROL PCM REPROGRAM MODULE POWERTRAIN CONTROL. WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE SOMETIME VEHICLE LOSES ALL POWER FOR A BOUT 30 SECONDS BEFORE POWER KICKS IN. IF PULLING OUT ON TO THE ROADWAY, IT CAN BE A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY MATTER. SOMETIMES WHEN PROBLEM IS HAPPENING, VEHICLE WILL SHIFT HARD WHEN POWER KICKS IN(FEELS LIKE YOU HAVE BEEN REAR-ENDED). HAVE HAD THREE DIFFERENT CHRYSLER MECHANICS DRIVE VEHICLE ALL SAYING THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE PROBLEM AND IS PERFORMING AS IT WAS DESIGNED TO PREFORM. I AM AT THE POINT OF BEING AFRAID OF DRIVING THE VEHICLE, AFRAID I COULD BE IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT.

THE VAN WAS RUNNING AND I WAS STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION, WAITING TO TURN LEFT. A WARNING MESSAGE POPPED UP ON THE DASH--SOMETHING ABOUT THE START/STOP SYSTEM. I RELEASED MY FOOT FROM THE BRAKE SO AS TO CONTINUE THROUGH THE INTERSECTION. INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR LIGHTS REMAINED ON HOWEVER THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT MOVE. I COULD NOT TURN THE SHIFT KNOB OUT OF DRIVE, EVEN AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS. DEPRESSING THE GAS PEDAL HAS NO EFFECT. AT SOME POINT I MAY HAVE PRESSED THE BRAKE AND THEN TURNED THE SHIFT KNOB BACK TO PARK. I WAS THEN ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AND GET OUT OF THE INTERSECTION. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE HOME AFTER BUT THE EXPERIENCE WAS DANGEROUS AND FRIGHTENING.

SINCE I LEASED THE VEHICLE, THE SCREEN OF THE RADIO DON'T WORK PROPERLY, THE AUTOMATIC DOORS SOMETIMES DON'T WORK, THE AUTOMATIC DOORS LOCK DON'T WORK PROPERLY EITHER AND THE TRANSMISSION DO A HARSH KICK. I HAVE BEEN REPORTING TO CHRYSLER THE CONDITIONS AND MALFUNCTIONS OF THE VEHICLE AND THEY HAVE NEVER FIXED, ALWAYS SAYS THAT EVERYTHING IS OK. I HAVE TO DRIVE AND PAY A LEMON CAR WITH NO REMEDY. EVERY TIME THAT I DRIVE MY CAR ON THE HIGHWAY, THE TRANSMISSION HAVE ISSUES, AND ALSO WHEN I DRIVE MY CAR AND I NEED TO USE THE CAMERA TO SEE THE BACK OF THE STREET, THE SCREEN DOESN'T WORK.
I WAS DRIVING NEAR MY HOME AT 20MPH WHEN CAR CAME TO A DEAD STOP. IT FELT LIKE THE BOTTOM OF CAR HAD FALLEN. I TURNED OFF CAR AND RESTARTED IT TO SEE IF IT WOULD MOVE. IT WOULDN'T. I CALLEDAAA AND IT WAS TOWED TO AN AUTO SERVICE. IT WAS TRANSFERRED TO POMPEY AUTO GROUP IN SCRANTON, PA. HAD MY HUSBAND BEEN DRIVING THIS VEHICLE ON MAJOR HIGHWAYS FOR HIS JOB AT A HIGHER RATE OF SPEED, IT COULD'VE BEEN CATASTROPHIC. LUCKILY IT HAPPENED TO ME AS I WAS NOT TRANSPORTING MY GRANDCHILDREN AND I WAS CLOSE TO HOME. THINKING BACK MONTHS EARLIER, I RECALLED THAT ON MANY OCCASIONS, AS WE WERE BACKING OUT OF OUR DRIVEWAY, WE WOULD HEAR A GRINDING NOISE. IT WAS MENTIONED TO SEVERAL REPAIRMEN , INCLUDING AUTHORIZED CHRYSLER SERVICEMEN, AND NO ONE SUPPOSEDLY FOUND ANY ISSUES. BY THE WAY, BACK IN SEPTEMBER OF 2019, WE ALSO HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE BATTERY THAT CONTROLS THE ENGAGEMENT IN THE PARK POSITION. WE HAVE DOCUMENTATION FOR BOTH ISSUES, SHOULD YOU NEED FURTHER INFORMATION. INDEED, BOTH ISSUES ARE SAFETY ISSUES AND BOTH COULD CAUSE DEATHS IF THEY ARE NOT IMMEDIATELY SOLVED. THE ISSUE W/ THE BATTERY PARK POSITION ENGAGEMENT OCCURRED WHILE THE CAR WAS STOPPED ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY IN NJ. THE LAST PROBLEM OCCURRED ON A CITY STREET ON JULY 30, 2020.

VEHICLE WAS IN REVERSE (R), CHANGED TO DRIVE (D) IN "PRNDL" SELECTOR AND VEHICLE MOVED BACKWARDS INSTEAD OF FORWARD WHEN ACCELERATING CAUSING A COLLISION. POLICE INCIDENT REPORT WAS FILLED, AND CHRYSLER CORPORATION CONTACTED. VEHICLE IS AT CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP FOR TRANSMISSION MALFUNCTION INVESTIGATION.
Mileage: 25,700
VEHICLE EXHIBITED "UNINTENDED ACCELERATION"; THE ENGINE AND VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED ON IT'S OWN WHILE MAKING A SLOW (10 MPH) LEFT HAND TURN. VEHICLE LURCHED FORWARD AND ACCELERATED. ACCELERATION LASTED FOR A FEW SECONDS AFTER I APPLIED THE BRAKES BUT DID STOP ACCELERATING AT THAT POINT. I WAS ABLE TO STOP JUST SHORT OF A PARKED CAR I WAS TRYING TO PARK BEHIND. THIS IS THE ONLY TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED BEFORE OR SINCE THE INCIDENT. NOTE: I AM AN EX POWERTRAIN CALIBRATION ENGINEER SO I KNOW UNINTENDED ACCELERATION FROM MY PREVIOUS EMPLOYMENT. ALSO, MY FOOT WAS NOT ON THE GAS PEDAL WHEN THE INCIDENT HAPPENED. AND THERE WAS NO FLOOR MAT INTERFERENCE (PEDAL PHYSICALLY CAN'T REACH THE FLOOR).

CAME TO FULL STOP AT A LIGHT ON A 2 LANE HIGHWAY. THERE WAS NO ONE IN FRONT OF ME AND ONE CARE BEHIND. ALMOST IMMEDIATELY AFTER STOPPING FOR THE LIGHT, THE ENGINE STOPPED, THE TRANSMISSION INDICATOR LIGHT FLASHED THE LIGHT UNDER "D" AND THE GAUGE CLUSTER FLASHED MULTIPLE LIGHTS. I CAN ONLY REMEMBER SEEING FWC OR FCW FLASHING BUT THERE WERE OTHER LIGHTS. AUTO START/STOP WAS NOT DISABLED SO I WAS INITIALLY NOT SURPRISED BY THE ENGINE STOPPING AT A LIGHT. TO RESTART, I HAD TO PLACE TRANSMISSION BACK IN "P", HOLD THE BRAKE AND PUSH THE IGNITION. I THEN, DESPITE HAVING OUR SEAT BELTS ON, HAD TO DISENGAGE THE PARKING BRAKE BY PUSHING THE BUTTON. THIS USUALLY HAPPENS AUTOMATICALLY WHEN THE VEHICLE IS PLACED IN "D". ONCE WE RETURNED HOME, THE DRIVER'S SIDE POWER SLIDING DOOR WOULD NOT OPERATE. WE HAD TO OPEN IT MANUALLY TO GET MY SON OUT. THE PASSENGER'S SIDE WORKED LIKE IT SHOULD. BOTH THESE THINGS HAVE HAPPENED TO MY WIFE (THE PRIMARY DRIVER) SEVERAL TIMES AND REPORTED TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM OR FIX IT.

1. IN MOTION ON CITY STREETS VEHICLE HAS HARSH SHIFTING, JERKS LIKE ITS SHIFTING INTO A DIFFERENT GEAR WHILE DRIVING UNDER 40 MPH. THIS STARTED HAPPENING TWO WEEKS OR SO AFTER PURCHASING THIS VEHICLE BRAND NEW AND DOES THIS ONCE TO TWICE A WEEK. 2.) IN MOTION ON STREETS AND FREEWAY THE STEREO GOES BLACK RANDOMLY AND WILL NOT TURN BACK ON, RADIO ALSO WILL RANDOMLY JUMP FROM MULTIPLE STATIONS INCLUDING AM/FM, CARPLAY, ETC. WHILE DRIVING. 3). IN MOTION DRIVING ON CITY STREETS THE VEHICLE ANTILOCK BRAKE SYSTEM KICKED IN WHILE PULLING OUT OF DRIVEWAY AND STOPPED VEHICLE DEAD IN ITS TRACKS WITH 3 CHILDREN IN THE VEHICLE. I MADE MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS AND WAS UNABLE TO RELEASE ANTILOCK BRAKE SYSTEM FOR ONE HOUR UNTIL IT AUTOMATICALLY SHUT OFF AND THEN WAS ABLE TO DRIVE BACK INTO DRIVEWAY.

VAN WILL JERK OR JOLT WHEN IT'S SHIFTING BETWEEN GEARS GOING 10- 50 MPH ON A FLAT STRAIGHT AWAY CITY ROAD. DANGEROUS ON THE ROAD BECAUSE ITS UNPREDICTABLE AND UNCONTROLLABLE. THE JOLT FEELS AS THOUGH YOU HAVE BEEN REAR ENDED. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. MY CAR IS A LITTLE OVER A YEAR OLD. I'VE BEEN HAVING THIS PROBLEM IMMEDIATELY AFTER I BOUGHT THIS BRAND NEW VAN WITH LESS THAN 10,000 MILES.
2018 CHRYSLER PACIFICA. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE STALLING. *LD THE CONSUMER STATED THE BATTERY WAS DEAD UPON PURCHASE. THE DEALER REPLACED IT. A WEEK AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE IT WOULD NOT START. IT HAD POWER, BUT THE KEY FOB COULD NOT BE DETECTED. THE SLIDING DOORS REOPENED AFTER BEING CLOSED. THE VEHICLE APPLIES THE BRAKES WHEN REVERSING OR GOING FORWARD AS IF TO STOP A CRASH. THE VEHICLE JOLTS/LUNGES AND ROLLS A LITTLE WHEN SHIFTING GEARS. THE ENGINE RATTLES FOR A FEW SECONDS AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS SHUT OFF. THE VEHICLE STALLED/IDLED AND SHUT DOWN WHILE AT A STOP SIGN AND IN TRAFFIC. THE DASH DISPLAYED ENGINE STOP START SYSTEM MALFUNCTION. *JS
WHEN DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS (30 MPH OR LESS) THE TRANSMISSION KICKS GOING FROM FIRST GEAR INTO SECOND AND NOW IT IS KICKING FROM SECOND GEAR TO THIRD GEAR. IT IS A HARD BANG THAT FEELS LIKE I AM BEING REAR ENDED BY ANOTHER VEHICLE.

SINCE THE CAR WAS BOUGHT NEW BACK IN JUNE 2018 , THE TRANSMISSION WHEN SHIFT FROM P TO D , IT WOULD ENGAGE FOR A SECOND AND WHEN YOU HIT THE ACCELERATOR IT WOUND SLIP FOR ABOUT 2 SECONDS AND THEN IT ENGAGES BACK WITH A BANG . I FOUND THIS TO BE VERY DANGEROUS ESPECIALLY WHEN I'M PULLING OUT OF THE STREET OR PARKING LOT . I'VE TRIED TO RESOLVE IT AT THE DEALERSHIP A FEW TIMES BUT IT WAS HARD TO DUPLICATE AND INSTEAD THE DEALER JUST UPDATED THE SOFTWARE WHICH DID NOTHING TO RESOLVE THE SLIPPING PROBLEM .
Mileage: 10
WHILE IN MOTION, AT LOW SPEED AROUND THE INTERSECTION, THE CAR STALLED AND LOST ALL POWER, THE BRAKE PEDALS BECOME HARDER TO PUSH, AND THE POWER STEERING WAS GONE. THIS HAPPENED 5-6 TIMES OVER THE COURSE OF 3 MILES THAT WE HAD TO TRAVEL HOME.
Mileage: 800
THERE ARE TWO ISSUES: 1) ON CITY STREETS WHEN TURNING THE VEHICLE WILL NOT ACCELERATE WHEN PUTTING PRESSURE ON THE ACCELERATOR. THERE IS NO REVVING OF THE MOTOR, NO RESISTANCE ON THE ACCELERATOR. FEELS LIKE THE VAN IS SHUTTING OFF (BUT IT ISN'T). I CAN PUSH THE ACCELERATOR ALL THE WAY DOWN WITH NO INCREASE OF SPEED. THIS LASTS ABOUT 4 SECONDS. IT HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES 2) THE VEHICLE WILL VIOLENTLY SHIFT AT LOW SPEEDS. 10-15MPH. THE VEHICLE ACTS LIKE IT IS SEARCHING FOR THE GEAR (SLOWING) AND THEN SHIFTS HARD! FEELS LIKE YOU ARE BEING HIT FROM BEHIND. THIS HAPPENS ON ALL STREETS AND AT ALL TIMES (TURNING, GOING STRAIGHT) STAR CASE IS OPEN WITH FIAT.
Mileage: 13,000
WHEN I AM ACCELERATING, THE VEHICLE IS SLIPPING 30-40 MPH, ALMOST LIKE A VIOLENT JOLT. (AT TIMES SEEMS LIKE SOMEONE IS REAR ENDING US) I HAVE BROUGHT IT 2 DEALERSHIPS, 1 SAID IT COULDN'T DUPLICATE THE ISSUE, THE OTHER DEALERSHIP SAID IT'S A NORMAL FEATURE OF THE CAR. THIS MAKES ME EXTREMELY CONCERNED FOR THE SAFETY OF MY FAMILY. THIS HAS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIME (LIKE EVERY DAY) I HAVE BROUGHT THE VEHICLE IN TWICE NOW, LAST ON 8/16
Mileage: 34,750
WHEN DRIVING FORWARD SPEED AROUND 10-20 MILES AN HOUR OR 1500 -1750 RPM, THE TRANSMISSION WILL SHIFT EXTREMELY HARD (IT FEELS LIKE SOMEONE IS HITTING THE CAR FROM BEHIND-IT IS A VIOLENT SHIFT). I HAVE TAKEN THIS VEHICLE IN SEVERAL TIMES SINCE PURCHASING NEW IN FEBRUARY 2018. THEIS OCCURS TWO TO THREE TIMES A DAY OR EVEN MORE DURING THE WEEK. I HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS ISSUE PULLING FORWARD FROM MY DRIVE WAY TO GETTING ON THE HIGHWAY AND ACCELERATING. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY HAVE DONE FLASH RESETS SEVERAL TIMES WITH NO SUCCESS. I THINK HAVING A BRANDNEW VEHICLE DOING THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE AND VERY DANGEROUS WITH THE VIOLENT SHIFTING. I WAS TOLD THE NEW 9 SPEED TRANSMISSIONS ALL ARE HAVING THIS TYPE OF ISSUE.

SEPT 2018 AT APPROXIMATELY 9000 MILES: COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER WHILE DRIVING. ALL SYSTEMS RELAYED ERROR MESSAGES SUCH AS "POWER STEERING NOT AVAILABLE." LOST POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES. CAR COULD NOT BE PUT IN NEUTRAL OR PARK OR RESTARTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE SHOP WHERE THEY REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION. IN DECEMBER THE CAR BEGAN HAVING ISSUES WITH THE AUTO START/STOP CAUSING THE CAR TO LOSE POWER WHILE STOPPED AT A LIGHT. IT WAS WORKED ON 3 TIMES FOR THIS OVER THE NEXT SEVERAL MONTHS, TO DATE THERE HAVE NOT BEEN ANY ISSUE OF THIS REOCCURRING. IN MAY 2019 AT 18000 MILES IT WAS RETURNED TO THE SHOP FOR A WHINING SOUND IN THE TRANSMISSION AND THEY REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION AGAIN.

VEHICLE WAS BRIEFLY STOPPED IN TRAFFIC AT A LIGHT WITH ELECTRONIC START-STOP ENGAGED. WHEN FOOT WAS REMOVED FROM THE BRAKE, THE ENGINE STARTED BACK UP MOMENTARILY THEN SPUTTERED TO A STOP. THE ENGINE START/STOP BUTTON AND SHIFT KNOB WERE UNRESPONSIVE (COULD NOT SHIFT GEARS). NEUTRAL OVERRIDE CORD WAS PULLED, BUT INEFFECTIVE BECAUSE ELECTRONIC PARKING BRAKE STILL SEEMED TO BE ENGAGED. THE VEHICLE COULD NOT BE MOVED OUT OF TRAFFIC INTO A SAFE LOCATION AND HAD TO BE TOWED TO DEALERSHIP. HEATING AND POWER WINDOWS TURNED OFF AS WELL, AND POSSIBLY THE HAZARD LIGHTS WERE INEFFECTIVE (UNSURE BECAUSE IT WAS UNSAFE TO LEAVE THE VEHICLE AND CHECK).

VEHICLE CAME TO A STOP AND THEN SHUTDOWN SUDDENLY. VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESPOND TO INPUT AND CREATED A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS SITUATION AND WE WERE STOPPED IN A DIVIDED MEDIAN WITHOUT POWER. REQUIRED PUTTING THE VEHICLE IN PARK, RESTARTING THE ENGINE, AND THEN PUTTING BACK INTO DRIVE.

THE VEHICLE DURING OPERATION SUDDENLY DECELERATED AND WOULD NOT MOVE ON TWO OCCASIONS. THE FIRST OCCASION HAPPENED LESS THAN 1000 MILES ON THE OD. THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING AT 30MPH ON A CITY STREET WHEN IT LOST POWER TO THE WHEELS AND HAD TO PULL OFF THE ROAD. THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT DRIVE. HAD TO TURN IT OFF AND ON AGAIN FOR IT TO OPERATE. THE SECOND OCCASION AT 5500 MILES IT JUST STOPPED AFTER PULLING OUT FROM A STOP SIGN IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION. THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT WENT ON BRIEFLY AS IT WAS STOPPING. AGAIN THE ENGINE WAS ON BUT IT WOULD NOT MOVE. HAD TO RESTART THE VEHICLE FOR IT TO OPERATE.

ENGINE TURNED OFF/STALLED WITHOUT WARNING WHILE IN DRIVE GOING ABOUT 35 MPH ON A HIGHWAY EXIT RAMP. CHIMES STARTED BONGING AND 'D' ON DASHBOARD STARTED BLINKING. I WAS ABLE TO BRAKE TO A STOP. MSG APPEARED TO PUT CAR IN PARK TO RESTART. CAR RESTARTED IMMEDIATELY. THIS PROBLEM SOUNDS SIMILAR TO 2018 RECALL U87 FOR ENGINE STALLING, BUT MY VIN IS NOT COVERED IN RECALL. ALSO, NOTE THE 2017 RECALL U01 FOR ENGINE STALLING. SOME CONSUMERS NOTED IN THEIR COMPLAINTS THAT THE "FIX" DID NOT WORK. THIS IS VERY TROUBLING!! OBVIOUSLY TWO CONSECUTIVE YEAR RECALLS FOR ENGINE STALLING DOES NOT INSPIRE CONFIDENCE THAT THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN ADEQUATELY ADDRESSED. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE IN THIS CAR. SITTING AT STOP LIGHT WAITING FOR IT TO CHANGE WHEN ENGINE JUST TURNED OFF. DIDN'T KNOW WHAT HAD JUST HAPPENED OR WHAT TO DO, AFRAID I WOULD GET REAR-ENDED. LIGHT TURNED GREEN AND I HAD NO POWER. I PUT VAN IN PARK, PUSHED THE IGNITION START BUTTON, VAN STARTED AND I WAS ABLE TO PROCEED IN TRAFFIC. DIDN'T KNOW IF PROBLEM WAS RELATED TO THE FEATURE WHERE ENGINE TURNS OFF WHEN STOPPED IN TRAFFIC, THEN TURNS BACK ON WHEN YOU PRESS THE GAS. I PUSHED THE BUTTON SO ENGINE WOULDN'T TURN OFF UNTIL I GOT HOME SAFELY. NEAR ZERO OUTSIDE TEMPS AND I THOUGHT VEHICLE HAD DIED. LUCKILY, DRIVER BEHIND ME WAS PAYING ATTENTION AND DIDN'T JUMP THE GUN WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN OR I DEFINITELY WOULD HAVE BEEN REAR-ENDED. APPARENTLY THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT OTHER PACIFICA DRIVERS HAVE EXPERIENCED. IT NEEDS TO BE FIXED BEFORE SOMEONE IS HURT. MAKES ME VERY UNEASY TO DRIVE IT NOT KNOWING WHEN IT MIGHT HAPPEN AGAIN. WILL TAKE TO DEALER AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

THIS HAPPENED ON TWO OCCASIONS. I CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP, AND THE AUTO START STOP SHUT THE ENGINE OFF LIKE IT'S SUPPOSED TO. HOWEVER, WHEN THIS HAPPENED A BUNCH OF WARNINGS CAME ACROSS MY DASH, SAYING CERTAIN SAFETY FEATURES WERE DISABLED AND THE CAR WOULDN'T RESPOND TO THE GAS PEDAL. I HAD TO PUT THE CAR INTO PARK AND RESTART MY CAR. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG. IT HAPPENED AGAIN AFTER HAVING IT BACK FOR THREE DAYS, AND THEY SAID THERE WAS AN 'UPDATE' FOR IT. HOWEVER WHEN I PICKED UP MY CAR THEY DIDN'T GIVE ME ANY PAPERWORK TO SIGN.

WE PURCHASED OUR 2018 CHRYSLER PACIFICA IN EARLY OCTOBER 2018 AND HAVE SINCE PUT LESS THAN 3,000 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. TODAY, WHILE DRIVING ON A LEVEL RURAL ROAD NEAR OUR HOME, A COUPLE OF WARNING LIGHTS STARTED FLASHING OUT OF NOWHERE: ONE INDICATING THAT BLIND-SPOT MONITORING WAS DISABLED, AND ANOTHER RE: ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL. NOT LONG AFTER WE STARTED UP A HILL A HALF-MILE LATER, THE ACCELERATOR STOPPED RESPONDING. WE WERE SLOWING DOWN. THEN, THE CAR BASICALLY STALLED AND CAME TO A STOP. MORE WARNING LIGHTS AND SOUNDS CAME ON, INCLUDING A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, AND ONE INDICATING THAT WE NEEDED TO SERVICE THE TRANSMISSION. THEN ON THE DISPLAY ABOVE THE WHEEL, A MESSAGE SAID THAT WE NEEDED TO TURN OFF THE ENGINE TO ENGAGE THE PARKING BRAKE. WE CALLED 911 IN HOPES OF HAVING AN OFFICER HELP DIRECT TRAFFIC WHILE WE WAITED FOR A TOW, AS WE WERE STOPPED AROUND A CURVE AND AT A HIGH RISK OF GETTING REAR-ENDED. THE CAR WASN'T RESPONDING WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO TURN THE ENGINE OFF. I WASN'T ABLE TO SHIFT THE CAR INTO PARK, EITHER (THE LIGHT ABOVE EACH GEAR FLASHED WHEN I TRIED TO SHIFT AWAY FROM DRIVE). ALSO, THE HAZARD LIGHTS WOULDN'T TURN ON, AND NOR WOULD THE PARKING BRAKE (I HAD TO KEEP MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE TO PREVENT THE CAR FROM ROLLING BACKWARD DOWN THE HILL). AS WE WAITED FOR THE TOW TRUCK, THE LIGHTS ON THE DASH CONTINUED TO FLASH AND THE ALARMS CONTINUED ON. AT SOME POINT, I ONCE AGAIN TRIED TO TURN THE CAR OFF. IT WORKED. THEN, WHEN I TURNED THE CAR ON AGAIN, ONLY A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER ALSO HAD NO ISSUE REVERSING THE VAN UP ONTO THE BED OF HIS TRUCK.

WHEN COMPLETING A STOP AT TRAFFIC LIGHTS, THE VEHICLE START/STOP SYSTEM SHUTS OFF THE ENGINE AND WITHOUT WARNING IT HAS NOT RESTARTED AUTOMATICALLY LEAVING US EXPECTING TO TAKE OFF AND HAVING TO PUT THE VEHICLE BACK IN PARK WHILE IN TRAFFIC AND THEN RESTART THE ENGINE AND MOVE GEAR SELECTOR BACK TO THE DRIVE POSITION. I'VE NEARLY BEEN REAR-ENDED DUE TO THIS SEVERAL TIMES. I HAVE COUNTED 7 TIMES THIS MALFUNCTION HAS HAPPENED. WHEN CHECKING THE VEHICLE FOR ANY DTC'S THERE HAVE NEVER BEEN ANY.

NOTES OF 2018 CHRYSLER PACIFICA : ON OCTOBER 24, I PURCHASED A 2018 PACIFICA LIMITED WITH 22,000 MILES. DROVE IT HOME .AND TURNED INTO MY DRIVEWAY JUST BEFORE MY GARAGE. MY WIFE (WHO WAS STILL IN THE VAN) SAID I WAS TOO FAR OVER AND SUGGESTED I BACK UP AND LINE UP BETTER. I RESTARTED THE ENGINE AND PUT THE ROTATOR CONTROL IN REVERSE. THE ENGINE STARTED AND I QUICKLY PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE. IMMEDIATELY THE ENGINE RPM JUMPED UP, THE VEHICLE STARTED ROARING BACKWARDS. THE REVERSE MOMENTUM THRU ME FORWARD (I STILL HAD THE SEAT BELT ON). IT ALSO THRU ME AGAINST THE BRAKE AND THE ACCELERATOR. THE PACIFICA ROARED BACK OFF MY DRIVEWAY INTO OUR CUL DE SAC, ROTATED 90 DEGREES AND LANDED NEXT TO MY NEIGHBORS STONE FLOWER BED. THE ENGINE THEN DIED. THE 'AUTO STOP' FEATURE WAS OPERATIONAL. VERY FORTUNATELY, THERE WERE NO CARS OR PEOPLE IN THE DRIVE SO NO ONE WAS HURT. HAD THEY BEEN IT WOULD HAVE BEEN DISASTROUS. IT WAS DELIVERED TO THE BODY SHOP . THE TOTAL DAMAGES WERE $4,500 AND TOOK THREE WEEKS IN THE REPAIR SHOP.. AFTER RETURN I NOTICED THE PACIFICA STILL RESPONDED WITH SUDDEN ACCELERATION AND JERKY SHIFTING, MAKING DRIVING AN EXTREMELY NERVOUS VENTURE. AN INTERNET SEARCH REVEALED OTHER SIMILAR EVENTS IN THE PACIFICA. I CALLED THE DEALER REGARDING ANOTHER ISSUE WITH MY VEHICLE. I WAS TOLD THAT THERE ARE 2 OPEN RECALLS AND HAD TO WAIT 2 MONTHS TO GET THE SERVICE APPOINTMENT. THE RECALLS ARE FOR A MANUAL PARK RELEASE AND THE CRUISE CONTROL. THIS IS VERY ALARMING AND VERY DANGEROUS. I CALLED CHRYSLER CORPORATION AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE IS NOTHING THAT I CAN DO AND NEED TO WAIT THE 2 MONTHS. THIS VEHICLE IS A HAZARD TO THE ROAD! I DO NOT FEEL COMFORTABLE DRIVING AN UNSAFE VEHICLE FOR 2 MONTHS!

MY WIFE AND I JUST PURCHASED THE PACIFICA AND DECIDED TO TAKE A ROAD TRIP FROM ARIZONA TO OREGON . WHILE TRAVELING THROUGH THE HILLS AND MOUNTAINS THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT SHIFT PROPERLY TO MAINTAIN HIGHWAY SPEEDS! THERE WAS A LOT OF LAG TIME FROM THE DRIVERS INPUT BETWEEN THE TRANSMISSION AND ENGINE TO RESPOND. ALSO THE CRUISE CONTROL WOULD ENGAGE SUDDENLY AND SPEED UP. TOOK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THE TECH SAID THE VEHICLE SOFTWARE WAS ENGINEERED THAT WAY AND HE COULDN'T DO ANYTHING FOR US.

JULY 28, 2018 7:20PM: STOPPED THE CAR AT CROSSWALK FOR PEDESTRIANS. WHILE CAR WAS STATIONARY WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE, THE ENGINE STARTED TO RACE WITH INCREASING FORCE. FEARING THAT I COULD NOT HOLD IT BACK WITH THE BRAKE, I REACHED OVER AND SHIFTED THE CAR INTO NEUTRAL, WHICH REMEDIED THE SITUATION. NOTES: 1) THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS NOT ENGAGED AT THE TIME. 2) THE AUTO STOP/START WAS NOT ENGAGED (I.E. THE BLUE LIGHT WAS ON). THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED. JULY 13, 2018 12:15PM AT DISNEY WORLD: I WAS TRAVELING DOWN AN INCLINE TOWARD A STOP SIGN. AS I APPLIED MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE, THE ENGINE BEGAN TO RACE WITH INCREASING FORCE, DESPITE MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE. AS THERE WAS NO TRAFFIC COMING, I SIMPLY TOOK MY FOOT OFF OF THE BRAKE AND PROCEEDED THROUGH THE INTERSECTION. THE SITUATION SEEMED TO REMEDY ITSELF. NOTES: 1) THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS NOT ENGAGED AT THE TIME. 2) THE AUTO STOP/START WAS NOT ENGAGED (I.E. THE BLUE LIGHT WAS ON). NEITHER OF THESE EVENTS APPEAR TO BE ASSOCIATED WITH CHRYSLER'S U64 OR U50 RECALLS, AS NEITHER THE CRUISE CONTROL NOR MANUAL PARK RELEASE WERE ENGAGED. HOWEVER, IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT THE AUTO STOP/START WAS NOT ENGAGED IN BOTH SITUATIONS. ADDITIONAL OBSERVATIONS: ON NUMEROUS PAST OCCASIONS, WHEN THE CAR DID HAVE THE AUTO STOP/START FEATURE ENGAGED (I.E. BLUE LIGHT OFF), THE CAR WOULD "BUCK" WHILE GOING THROUGH AN INTERSECTION (I.E. IT WOULD SLAM INTO GEAR). THIS IS ONE OF THE REASONS WHY WE NOW DISABLE THE AUTO STOP/START. 2018 PACIFICA WITH 5450 MILES ON IT. WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AT 60 MPH WITH ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL ENGAGED, VEHICLE SUDDEN APPEARED TO STOP RUNNING. VEHICLE HAD BEEN OPERATING PERFECTLY NORMAL WITH NO INDICATION OF A PROBLEM UNTIL IT STARTED TO QUICKLY LOSE SPEED AND HAD NO RESPONSE FROM ACCELERATOR PEDAL. MESSAGE ON DASHBOARD SAID TO PLACE VEHICLE IN PARK AND PRESS START BUTTON. I'M NOT SURE IF THE ENGINE WAS ACTUALLY IDLING OR IF IT HAD COMPLETELY STOPPED RUNNING. I DID NOT NOTICE A LOSS OF POWER STEERING OR BRAKES. COASTED OVER TO SHOULDER, PLACED IN PARK AND TRIED TO RESTART. THE ENGINE WOULD START, BUT ONLY IDLE AT ABOUT 600 RPM. ACCELERATOR PEDAL HAD NO EFFECT ON ENGINE RPM AND I COULD NOT SHIFT OUT OF PARK. SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF AND RESTARTED IT SEVERAL TIMES WITH SAME RESULT OVER A 3 MINUTE PERIOD. THEN I SWITCHED THE AUTO START/STOP BUTTON INTO THE OFF (DEFEAT SETTING) AND WAS IMMEDIATELY ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE, WHICH THEN OPERATED AS NORMAL. SINCE THIS INCIDENT YESTERDAY, THE VEHICLE HAS OPERATED AS NORMAL AND HAS REPORTED NO FAULTS THROUGH THE U-CONNECT APPLICATION. CLEAR WEATHER WITH TEMPERATURE NEAR 100 DEGREES WHEN THIS INCIDENT OCCURRED. BOTH KEYLESS REMOTES FOR THE VEHICLE WERE INSIDE THE VEHICLE, MINE IN MY POCKET AND MY WIFE'S IN HER PURSE. BEFORE HEADING OUT ON THIS TRIP I HAD USED THE REMOTE START FUNCTION AND ALLOWED THE VEHICLE TO RUN IN REMOTE START MODE UNTIL IT TIMED OUT. THEN HAD REMOTE STARTED THE VEHICLE A SECOND TIME BEFORE SWITCHING IT TO NORMAL RUN MODE BEFORE LEAVING THE PARKING LOT. THIS WAS ABOUT 40 MINUTES BEFORE THE EVENT HAPPENED. IT OCCURRED TO ME THAT THE MESSAGES THAT WERE DISPLAYED ON THE DASH WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS INOPERABLE WERE SIMILAR, OR POSSIBLY IDENTICAL TO MESSAGES DISPLAYED DURING THE REMOTE START FUNCTION, WHICH IS WHY I THOUGHT OF SWITCHING THE AUTO START/STOP BUTTON TO THE DEFEAT POSITION.

ON JUNE 11TH ON MY WAY HOME FROM WORK I STOPPED AT A STORE AND PARKED THE CAR. UPON MY RETURN TO MY CAR ABOUT 15 MINUTES LATER, I UNLOCKED, SAT DOWN, PUT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND PRESSED START. THE CAR STARTED AS NORMAL. I ATTEMPTED TO PUT THE CAR IN DRIVE AND THE LEVER WOULD NOT MOVE OUT OF PARK. THE ORANGE ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED ON. AS I HAD A SIMILAR PROBLEM ON MAY 23RD, I TURNED OFF THE CAR AND ATTEMPTED TO START AND SHIFT INTO DRIVE AGAIN WITH NO DIFFERENT RESULT. I TRIED SEVERAL MORE TIMES WITH NO LUCK. THE CAR STARTED JUST FINE, IT SIMPLY WOULD NOT SHIFT OUT OF PARK AND EACH TIME THE ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED ON. THE PARKING BRAKE WAS NOT ON NOR DID I TRY TO PUSH IT. I CALLED MY ROADSIDE ASSIST TO ORDER SERVICE TO BE TOWED TO MY DEALER. I GOT OUT OF THE CAR FOR A FEW MINUTES AND THEN GOT BACK IN TO TRY THE PROCESS AGAIN AND STILL NO RESULT. AFTER ABOUT 30 MINUTES TOTAL, THE TOW TRUCK ARRIVED. JUST AS HE WAS ARRIVING I TRIED SAME PROCESS AND THE CAR DID SHIFT INTO DRIVE. I STILL HAD THE CAR TOWED AND THE DEALER SPENT OVER ONE WEEK TRYING TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE WITH NO ANSWERS. CHRYSLER WAS VERY INVOLVED SINCE I HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM ON MAY 23RD. HOWEVER, ON THAT MAY DATE MY CAR STALLED WHILE I WAS WAITING AT A STOPLIGHT ON A BUSY ROAD AND THEN LOCKED IN PARK SO I COULD NOT MOVE IT. THIS TIME I WAS NOT MOVING AS THE CAR WAS PARKED IN A LOT. AFTER 8 DAYS AT THE DEALER I HAVE MY CAR BACK.

ON MAY 23, 2018 I WAS IN ROUTE TO WORK PER NORMAL. IT WAS ABOUT 8:30 AM. THE CAR WAS STATIONARY IN THE LEFT HAND TURN LANE (SECOND FROM RIGHT LANE) ON A 6 LANE BUSY CITY STREET WAITING FOR A RED LIGHT TO TURN GREEN SO I COULD TURN LEFT/NORTH ONTO NEXT STREET. THE CAR WAS IN DRIVE WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE. AS THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN I TOOK MY FOOT FROM THE BRAKE TO THE ACCELERATOR AND THE CAR SUDDENLY POWERED DOWN. I PUT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE, PUT IN PARK, TURNED OFF THE CAR, AND THEN PUSHED START AGAIN. THE CAR STARTED BUT WOULD NOT MOVE OUT OF PARK. I RETRIED SEVERAL TIMES WITH NO LUCK TO GET THE CAR OUT OF PARK AND MOVE FORWARD. I PUT ON MY HAZARDS AS CARS STARTED TO STACK UP BEHIND ME WHILE I WAS MOTIONING FOR TRAFFIC TO GO AROUND ME. I TRIED AGAIN TO RESTART AND WHILE THE CAR WOULD RESTART, I COULD NOT MOVE IT OUT OF PARK AND WAS STUCK THERE. WITH MY HAZARDS ON, I CALLED THE POLICE TO ASSIST AND THEN TRIED TO USE MY UCONNECT TO REACH MY 'FREE' ROADSIDE ASSITANCE USING MY ASSIST BUTTON. I GOT AN ERROR MESSAGE MULTIPLE TIMES THAT IT WOULD NOT CONNECT. I FOUND THE 800 NUMBER AND MANUALLY DIALED MYSELF. AFTER ABOUT A 10 MINUTE PROCESS I FINALLY WAS ABLE TO ORDER SERVICE VIA THE TEXT PROCESS THAT WAS SENT TO ME. IT TOOK ANOTHER 5 MINUTES BEFORE I RECEIVED CONFIRMATION THAT TOW TRUCK WAS ORDERED. POLICE ARRIVED. I CALLED BACK TO DETERMINE HOW LONG TOW TRUCK WOULD TAKE TO FIND IT WAS 90 MINUTES. THIS WAS UNACCEPTABLE DUE TO MY LOCATION AND THE TRAFFIC BACKUP. I CALLED MY DEALER DIRECTLY AND THEY SENT SERVICE WITHIN 30 MINUTES. THE DEALER IMMEDIATELY RECEIVED A CALL FROM CHRYSLER STAR TEAM (DUE TO THE ROADSIDE REPORT I FILED) AND THEY HAD MY CAR FOR ONE WEEK. I HAVE THE CAR BACK NOW AND THERE ARE NO SOLID EXPLANATIONS AS TO WHY THIS HAPPENED. I KNOW THAT CHRYSLER WAS VERY INVOLVED IN HAVING DEALER PERFORM MULTIPLE TESTS. THANKFUL I WAS NOT ON FREEWAY.

THE CAR RANDOMLY SHIFTS TO WHAT SOUNDS LIKE NEUTRAL AND HAS THE RPMS SKYROCKET WHILE DRIVING AROUND 10-15 MPH. AFTER 2-5 SECONDS OF LOSS OF MOMENTUM THE TRANSMISSION ENGAGES AND JERKS THE CAR FORWARD LIKE IT WAS REAR ENDED. THIS HAPPENS 3-4 TIMES A DAY. I HAD JUST PURCHASED THIS CAR AND WAS DRIVING AWAY FROM THE DEALER. ABOUT A MILE DOWN THE ROAD I WAS SLOWING DOWN AND STARTED TO PUT ON THE BRAKES WHEN I HAD AN UNCONTROLLED ACCELERATION EVENT. (IT FELT LIKE SOMEONE HAD JUST STEPPED ON THE ACCELERATOR). I HAD TO SLAM HARD ON THE BRAKES AND JUST AVOIDED HITTING THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. I KNOW THIS WAS CAUSED PROBABLY BY THE COMPUTER BUT I KNOW IT WASN'T ME. MY FOOT WAS ONLY ON THE BRAKE. I KNOW THIS FEELING WELL SINCE I USED TO HAVE A 2004 PRIUS WHERE THIS HAPPENED TO ME MANY TIMES.

BY THE END ALL WARNING SYSTEMS HAD FAILED, POWER STEERING WAS GONE, ABS WAS GONE, AFTER THE BATTERY HIT 8.9 VOLTS WE LOST CONTROL OF THE TRANSMISSION, THE "D" ON THE DISPLAY STARTED FLASHING AND THE VAN SHUT OFF 15 SECONDS LATER. ONCE THE VAN WAS OFF I WAS UNABLE TO PUT IT IN PARK OR APPLY THE PARKING BRAKE DUE TO THE LOSS OF POWER.
