POSSIBLE TAKATA RECALL!!! WHILE COMING DOWN AND AROUND A CORNER ON A HIGHWAY THERE WAS A CAR TURNING AND I DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH TIMES TO STOP. WHICH CAUSED ME TO REAREND THE OTHER VEHICLE. IT WAS A BEAUTIFUL DAY SO WE HAD MY 2006 CHRYSLER SEBRING CONVERTIBLE TOP DOWN. I WAS DRIVING WHILE MY 15 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WAS IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. MY12 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER DIRECTLY BEHIND HER AND MY 7 YEAR OLD NIECE BEHIND ME. THE FRONT AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. MY 15 YEAR OLD WHOM WAS WEARING HER SEATBELT WAS THROWN FORWARD DUE TO HER SEATBELT LOCKING MECHANISM NOT LOCKING. THANKFULLY THE SEATBELT EVENTUALLY CAUGHT HER BY THE RIGHT THIGH SAVING HER FROM BEING EJECTED FROM THE VEHICLE. SHE SUBSTAINED WHAT COULD HAVE EASILY BEEN A LIFE THREATENING LACERATION TO LEFT SIDE (BUT MORE TOWARDS THE MIDDLE) OF HER FOREHEARD DIRECTLY ABOVE HER LEFT EYEBROW. THE LACERATION WAS 8CM, THE SHAPE OF A CROSS, AND IT WAS 3 LAYERS DEEP. MY YOUNGER DAUGHTER WHOM WAS DIRECTLY BEHIND HER HAD A PATCH OF SKIN ON TOP OF HER LEFT FOOT THAT WAS CUT OFF. WE ARE IN THE PROCESS OF GETTING SOMEONE TO COME AND TAKE A LOOK AT THE VEHICLE BEFORE THE INSURANCE COMPANY GETS RID OF IT IN THE NEXT WEEK. WE ARE NOT SURE IF MY 15 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER'S HEAD WAS CUT FROM AIRBAG SHRAPNEL FLYING OUT SINCE THE SIZE, SHAPE, AND LOCATION OF THE LASERATION IS THE SAME SIZE, SHAPE AND LOCATION ON ONE OF THE BIGGER TRAKATA AIR BAG INJURIES THAT IS OUT THERE PUBLICLY. OR IF HER INJURY WAS DUE TO HER HITTING HER HEAD ON SOMETHING DUE TO THE FACT THAT HER SEATBELT LOCKING MECHANISM WAS NOT WORKING. EITHER WAY THIS NEEDS TO BE LOOKED INTO BEFORE SOMEONE ELSE IS INJURED OR WORSE YET KILLED... PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS...* THE PASSENGER AIRBAG LIGHT WOULD GO ON EVERY ONCE AND AWHILE BUT WOULD THEN GO OFF WHEN YOU MOVED THE PASSENGER CHAIR BACK OR FORTH. THE SAME PROBLEM THE 2010 CHRYSLER SEBRING CONVERTIBLES ARE JUST NOW RECALLING.

TAKATA RECALL:I WAS INVOLVED WITH A COLLISION. I WAS CROSSING A TWO LANE HIGHWAY THAT WAS SOUTHBOUND, AND I WAS GOING WESTBOUND CROSSING THE OTHER VEHICLE HIT MY FRONT PASSENGER SIDE, BOTH THE PASSENGER AND THE DRIVER AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. I WAS IN THE CAR ALONE. WHEN THE PLASTIC STEERING WHEEL COVER PARTIALLY POPPED OFF, AND THE AIRBAG CAME OUT, THE PLASTIC COVER CUT MY RIGHT HAND 3RD FINGER, 80% SEVERED THE TENDON AND CHIPPED THE BONE. HAD TO BE SURGICALLY REPAIRED. DATE OF THE ACCIDENT WAS 8/29/2016. THAT WAS MY RIGHT HAND. MY LEFT HAND WAS BRUISED AND SCRATCHED. DUE TO THE ACCIDENT, THE CAR IS NOT REPAIRABLE. INCIDENT #16FL099929

I USED THE HORN AND IT DIDN'T SHUT OFF WHEN I REMOVED MY HAND FROM THE STEERING WHEEL. I HAD TO REMOVE THE FUSE TO GET IT TO TURN OFF. I REPLACED THE FUSE BUT THE HORN WOULD STILL GO OFF BY ITSELF AT RANDOM TIMES. A DEALER TOLD ME THE CLOCK SPRING IN THE STEERING WHEEL WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. APPARENTLY, THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE, AND IT IS VERY UNSAFE SINCE IT AFFECTS THE AIRBAGS AS WELL AS THE HORN.

CHRYSLER HAS INFORMED ME THAT THEY ARE PLANNING A RECALL IN 4 STATES, ONE OF WHICH IS FLORIDA FOR "REGISTERED" VEHICLES, NO DEFINITE DATES, ETC. MY VEHICLE IS NOT REGISTERED IN FLORIDA BUT IS THERE ABOUT 6 MONTHS A YEAR. BECAUSE IT IS NOT "REGISTERED" IN FLORIDA, CHRYSLER HAS NO PLANS TO INCLUDE IT IN THEIR RECALL. PLEASE FORCE CHRYSLER TO RECALL ALL VEHICLES IN THE US, OR AT LEAST ALL OF THOSE THAT SPEND TIME IN THE AREAS OF GREATEST RISK. *TR

IF THE HORN IS APPLIED, IT MIGHT ALSO STAY ON FOR A PERIOD OF TIME. AFTER CONSULTING WITH THE CHRYSLER DEALER, I AM BEING TOLD THAT THE REMEDY FOR THE SITUATION IS TO CHANGE THE ENTIRE AIRBAG MODULE, SINCE THE HORN BUTTON IS A PART OF THAT ASSEMBLY. THIS ASSEMBLY CAN NOT BE TAKEN APART FOR REPAIR. AFTER LOOKING ON THE INTERNET, I SEE THAT THIS IS A QUITE COMMON PROBLEM FOR THIS VEHICLE. I FEEL THAT THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT CHRYSLER NEED TO ADDRESS. THE REPAIR COST IS ALSO SO HIGH $700-$1000 THAT MOST PEOPLE WILL RATHER DISCONNECT THE HORN THAN PAY TO HAVE THE PROBLEM FIXED. *TR

I APPLIED PRESSURE TO THE STEERING WHEEL TO ACTIVATE THE HORN AND THE HORN WOULD NOT STOP BLARING AFTER I REMOVED MY HAND. ULTIMATELY, I HAD TO REMOVE THE FUSE THAT CONTROLS THE HORN AND INCIDENTALLY THE AIR BAGS, RENDERING BOTH THE HORN AND AIR BAGS INOPERABLE. *TR

WHILE EXITING THE DRIVEWAY, THE HORN JUST RANDOMLY BEGAN GOING OFF AND WOULD NOT STOP. NOTHING WE DID WOULD STOP IT. WE TURNED OFF THE CAR, AND BEGAN PULLING ALL FUSES AND RELAYS ASSOCIATED WITH THE HORN UNTIL IT STOPPED. WHEN WE PUT THE RELAY BACK IN, THE HORN WENT OFF AGAIN. THE ONLY WAY TO KEEP THE HORN OFF, IS TO PULL THE RELAY- OTHERWISE IT BLOWS 24/7. WE REPLACE THE RELAY WITH A NEW ONE; SAME THING- HORN BLOWING 24/7. SO NOW I AM DRIVING AROUND WITHOUT A HORN, WHICH IS A VERY DANGEROUS THING TO BE DOING. NOT TO MENTION I CAN NOT PASS A SAFETY INSPECTION WITHOUT IT. BASED ON OUR RESEARCH, THE ONLY WAY TO FIX IT, IS TO REPLACE THE "GUTS" UNDER THE AIR BAG, WHICH MEANS REPLACING THE AIR BAG AS WELL. HOW IS THIS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE? THERE HAVE BEEN SO MANY COMPLAINTS FOR THIS AND IM CURIOUS WHY THIS HAS NOT BEEN RECALLED. ITS CLEARLY A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE, I SCARED AN ELDERLY DRIVER THIS MORNING, MY HORN WAS BLOWING NON-STOP AND SHE FROZE IN THE INTERSECTION. VERY UNSAFE! *TR

ON SEARCHING THE INTERNET, I FIND MANY REPORTS OF THE SAME PROBLEM. CHRYSLER SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM AND REFUND THE COST TO ANY WHO HAVE PAID TO FIX THE PROBLEM. *TR

WHEN I WAS DRIVING, I HAD TO PUSH DOWN HARD ON THE CENTER OF THE STEERING WHEEL AS I STEERED WITH THE OTHER HAND. IT WAS VERY DANGEROUS. WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE CAR DEALER, I WAS TOLD IT WAS CAUSED BY A "CLOCK SWITCH" THAT CONTROLS THE HORN AND THE AIR BAG. IT WOULD COST OVER $600 JUST FOR THE PART. IT WILL BE AROUND $1100 WITH LABOR. SINCE I DON'T HAVE THAT MUCH MONEY TO SPARE, MY THEY TOLD ME TO PULL THE HORN RELAY FUSE OUT. THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN SAID DOING THAT WOULD STOP THE HORN, BUT ALSO PREVENT THE AIR BAG FROM DEPLOYING. SO NOW I AM DRIVING WITHOUT A HORN OR AN AIR BAG, A MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD, ESPECIALLY WHEN MY WIFE AND CHILDREN MUST RIDE IN OUR CAR. I CONTACTED CHRYSLER TO LODGE A COMPLAINT & THEY WERE VERY RUDE TO ME & THE REP TOLD ME TO DO WHATEVER AS THEY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF SUCH A COMPLAINT, EVEN THOUGH THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF GTC OWNERS THAT ARE COMPLAINING ALL OVER THE INTERNET OF THE EXACT SAME ISSUES!!! IT IS RIDICULOUS THAT I HAVE TO SACRIFICE MY FAMILY'S SAFETY DUE TO NO SUPPORT FROM CHRYSLER. I COULD UNDERSTAND IF IT WAS A PART THAT WEARS OUT , OR COULD BE BROKEN BY NEGLIGENCE, BUT IT'S NOT!! THIS IS UNSAFE AND SHOULD BE REPAIRED BY CHRYSLER. THE AVERAGE REPAIR COST IS $1000. WITH THOSE OF US UNEMPLOYED THIS IS WAY BEYOND REASONABLE. THE ALTERNATIVE TO DISCONNECT IT IS NOT AN ALTERNATIVE DUE TO SAFETY CONCERNS OF NOT HAVING AN AIRBAG. CHRYSLER SHOULD POST A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE AND TAKE RESPONSIBILITY TO REPAIR IT. *LN

IT BLOWS WHEN IT IS PARKED IN THE GARAGE AT HOME, WHEN I AM WALKING INTO WORK, WHEN I AM SITTING AT A RED-LIGHT BEHIND SOMEONE, AND WHEN I AM JUST RIDING DOWN THE HIGHWAY. THAT IS THE FIRST PROBLEM. THE SECOND PROBLEM IS THAT SINCE MY HORN DECIDED TO DEVELOP A MIND OF ITS OWN, IT HAS TAKEN OVER THE REST OF THE CONTROLS LOCATED ON THE STEERING WHEEL. THE RADIO CONTROLS NO LONGER WORK, AND THE CRUISE CONTROLS WORK INTERMITTENTLY. OF COURSE IT WORKED FINE WHILE UNDER WARRANTY. IT WAITED FOR THE WARRANTY TO RUN OUT FOR THESE PROBLEMS TO OCCUR. THE ONLY WAY TO GET THE HORN TO STOP BLOWING IS TO BEAT ON THE STEERING WHEEL. SO....HERE IS A SCENARIO FOR YOU.....I'M RIDING DOWN THE HIGHWAY, MY HORN STARTS BLOWING BY ITSELF, I START BEATING ON THE STEERING WHEEL TO GET IT TO STOP, AND THE AIRBAG GOES OFF CAUSING ME TO WRECK (AND PROBABLY OTHER PEOPLE TOO).....I SUE YOUR COMPANY FOR NOT FIXING THE PROBLEM TO BEGIN WITH..... THIS IS A MUCH COMPLAINED ABOUT PROBLEM FOR PEOPLE WITH 2005 AND 2006 SEBRINGS.
