TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1993 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 00V305000 (STEERING); HOWEVER, THE PART NEEDED TO DO THE REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. MOANING NOISE COMING FROM THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM. IN MARCH 08 I TOOK MY 1993 TOWN AND COUNTY MINI VAN IN AND MY MECHANIC REPLACED THE STEERING RACK. THIS SEEMED TO WORK UNTIL THE MOANING SOUND STARTED AGAIN IN OCTOBER 08. AFTER KEEPING THE VAN FOR FOUR DAYS MY MECHANIC COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG AND DID NOT HEAR THE NOISE. I PICKED IT UP AND IT WAS QUIET UNTIL MARCH 09. AT THIS TIME I BROUGHT IT BACK AND THE POWER STEERING PUMP WAS REPLACED. AFTER ONLY ONE WEEK I AM AGAIN HEARING THE MOAN START. MY VEHICLE HAD 47,000 MILES ON IT WHEN THIS PROBLEM OCCURRED AND NOW HAS 55,700 MILES. *TR

THE POWER STEERING BELT SIMPLY SLIPPED OFF. I AM LUCKY NOT TO HAVE BEEN ON THE EXPRESSWAY. I PULLED THE CAR TO A SAFE AREA, BUT STRAINED MY NECK IN THE PROCESS. I HAVE NOW LEARNED THAT CHRYSLER HAS UPDATED THIS STEERING BELT SYSTEM WITH A PRODUCT THAT BOLTS THE BELT TO THE FRONT PULLEY ACTING AS A GUIDE RAIL. WHICH OTHER CARS HAVE? I WOULD LIKE TO FIND OUT IF THIS IS AN OFFICIAL RECALL AND THIS IS WHY I'M COMMUNICATING WITH YOU. I HOPE YOU CAN HELP ME FIND OUT. WHILE DRIVING IN THE RAIN ENGINE PULLEY RELEASED THE BELTS WHEN GOTTEN WET. THEN STEERING WHEEL LOCK ED, AND ENGINE WON'T WORK WITHOUT A PRIOR WARNING. *AK
DUE TO A DESIGN FLAW WELD ON STEERING WHEEL BROKE LOOSE, CAUSING STEERING WHEEL TO COME OFF WHILE DRIVING, WHICH COULD HAVE CAUSED A CRASH. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. *AK
FRONT END SWINGS ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65MPH. DEALER CONTACTED, STATES THEY SHOULD LAST LONGER, AND CANNOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. IF THE TIE ROD IS BROKEN THE VEHICLE'S STEERING WILL BE LOST. *AK
WHILE DRIVING OUT OF PARKING LOT AREA, COULD NOT TURN STEERING WHEEL. HAD NO CONTROL OF VEHICLE AT TIME. HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO DEALER. WAS INFORMED DRIVE TENSIONER HAD BROKEN. *AK
WHILE DRIVING STEERING RACK AND PINION BRACKET BROKE, FRONT SAFETY FRAME BROKE OFF, FRAME HAS HUGE CRACK, RESULTING IN LOSS OF CONTROL. ALSO, REPLACED FRON BRAKE ROTORS/PADS.
AFTER DRIVEN AND PARKED AND RE-ENTRY TO LEAVE STEERING SYSTEM FAILED DUE TO TENSIONER BREAKING. PLEASE DESCRIBE DETAILS. TT
