T & C 2008 VAN UNINTENDED SUDDEN ACCELERATION happened 2x. Service dept. Of the dealer says no problem found but it happened again. Today I am at dealer service again.Hope they solve the problem, cause several incident like this occured aluready.04

Multiple times the van will intermittently stall while driving down the road or stopped in traffic. First the dash lights flicker, speedometer and rpm gages go to 0, and warning lights such as esp, traction, abs, airbag, battery etc flicker on and off and occasionally hear almost a spark through radio speakers, then everything shuts off, both electrical and mechanically. When that happens I lose power steering and cannot get my hazards or brake lights to work. One time I could barely press the brake pedal, or steer and it was at night which means the vehicle was completely dark with no kinds of lights at an intersection with my 2 children and myself inside. So very scary! It gives me the worst anxiety to drive it and I'm too scared to sell it as I feel I would be knowingly selling a very unsafe vehicle. Occasionally the sliding side doors do not operate properly. First time the other night while the van was parked I hit the automatic shut button for the sliding door and lost all power to the vehicle and then it popped back in and operated fine. I have had multiple mechanics look at it and nobody can figure it out. Bought the van used in March or April of 2020 and had issues starting just 2 weeks after purchase. The van is now at around 108000 miles. I am out of money, a vehicle and options. Please help from a very scared and desperate mother who otherwise loves her minivan!

Unknown. Vehicle abruptly shuts off. Usually before full operating temperature is reached. It has happened dozens of times. It most recently happened today. Always when you remove your foot from the throttle at lower speeds. You can watch the tach go to 0 when your foot comes off. No warning, no consistency. It has never occurred while accelerating. Most events happened going around a curve, occasionally while slowing to turn into a lot or at an intersection. No problem at highway speeds. The most challenging time though is taking your foot off the gas going around a curve and it quits. Response is to rapidly slip the transmission into neutral and turn the key to start. It usually fires right back up. If you have no situational awareness however this could lead to a really bad outcome. This has been going on for over 100,000 miles. Have 192 now but the problem is getting worse. Dealers always have codes but nothing worked. Once a crankshaft sensor was replaced (On a suspicion) but no code for it. It helped a while but the problem has returned. Still no code for that sensor but I’m having it replaced again.

I was leaving my place of residence and was navigating a 90 degree left hand turn while in drive at approximately 10mph. As I began to attempt to straighten the wheel and accelerate out of the turn I realized I had no steering and the car wouldn't accelerate. The engine had stalled and the steering wheel was locked while turned to the left. No warning lights or messages were present even after I started the vehicle back up. I feel incredibly lucky this happened at a low rate of speed instead of at highway speed. It has never done anything like this before and we cannot figure out what caused the engine to stall or why there was no steering when it happened.

The vehicle died while driving six times. One additional time the vehicle died after being stopped at home. Each time the vehicle lost all power functions, steering and breaking. It just came to a stop, dead. On two of the occurrences a tow was required to move the vehicle to the dealership for repair. On five of the occurrences the driver was able to restart the vehicle. On three occasions the vehicle was evaluated by repair facilities and they could not reproduce the stoppage. One time at QualTech Automotive Service in Austin and two times at Nyle Maxwell in Austin. The vehicle did pass the Texas Safety inspection in November 2021. The stoppage problem occurred over the last nine months with the latest stoppage being on 12/23/21.

I was driving in Chattanooga Tn when it happened the first time. But the van just shut off so I made it to a parking lot turned the switch off then it started right back up and it happened again on my way home. It has happened multiple times. The the Ecm light came on so I had it replaced now the engine won't do anything at all

The contact owns a 2008 Chrysler Town and Country. The contact stated while driving 40 MPH, the brake pedal was depressed to make a left turn, and the vehicle shut-off without warning. She exited the vehicle and flagged down two fellow motorists for assistance. While they attempted to push the vehicle, the contact was able to restart the vehicle and resumed normal driving. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was 152,669.

ALSO, AWHILE AGO, I PULLED INTO MY PARKING PLACE AT WORK AND JUST AS I WAS GETTING READY TO TURN THE IGNITION OFF, EVERYTHING WENT WILD, HORN HONKING, ALARM GOING OFF, BOTH FRONT AND BACK WINDSHIELD WIPERS GOING FULL BORE WITH THE WASHER FLUID SPRAYING OUT! THIS CONTINUED FOR SEVERAL MINUTES EVEN THOUGH THE KEY WAS OUT OF THE IGNITION! IT FINALLY STOPPED, ALL THE WASHER FLUID RAN OUT! THIS HAS HAPPENED PERIODICALLY OVER THE PAST COUPLE YEARS. IT HAPPENED A FEW MONTHS AGO AND WOULDN'T STOP UNTIL WE UNHOOKED THE BATTERY. I'M TOLD IT IS A FAULTY POWER MODULE! THAT'S CRAZY, NEVER IN MY LIFE HAS ANYTHING LIKE THIS HYPO ME WITH A VEHICLE! MY VEHICLE WILL SHUT OFF WHILE I'M DRIVING. IT'S BEEN AN ONGOING ISSUE. THERE ARE NO LIGHTS THAT COME ON, ON THE DASHBOARD THAT INDICATE ANY ERROR, EXCEPT THE ANTILOCK BREAK LIGHT WILL OCCASIONALLY LIGHT UP. I COULD BE DRIVING SLOW OR FAST, IT MAKES NO DIFFERENCE, IT WILL JUST SHUT OFF, AND THE POWER STEERING AND BRAKES LOSE POWER AND DON'T WORK. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND CAN EASILY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. I HAVE DONE SOME RESEARCH ONLINE AND HAVE ALSO SEEN THIS EXACT SAME PROBLEM WITH HUNDREDS UPON HUNDREDS OF OTHER CONSUMERS WITH THE SAME MAKE AND MODEL. PEOPLE HAVE TAKEN THEIR VEHICLES TO CHRYSLER DEALERSHIPS AND MECHANICS AND NO ONE CAN FIGURE OUT THE CAUSE. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE. I HAVE SMALL CHILDREN, 2 STILL IN CARSEATS, AND MY YOUNGEST WHO IS 1 IS HANDICAP. I AM SCARED TO DRIVE IT. I STILL OWE $10,000 ON MY AUTO LOAN FOR THIS CAR, SO I AM STUCK WITH IT. THERE WAS NO WAY IT WAS OVERHEATING THAT QUICKLY AFTER STARTING. DEALER HAS REFUSED TO LOOK AT OTHER POSTINGS ONLINE THAT SUGGEST THIS IS A PREVALENT PROBLEM, AND UNRELATED TO THE COOLANT SYSTEM.

THE ALARM SYSTEM WENT OFF AND COULD NOT BE TURNED OFF. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES WHEN DRIVING AND ALL THE POWER IS LOST TO THE POWER STEERING, ENGINE AND LIGHTS. IT IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION AS IT CAN HAPPEN ON THE FREEWAY AS WELL AS ON A CITY STREET. WE HAVE BEEN STRANDED SO MANY TIMES AND HAVE FEARS TO DRIVE THIS VAN ANYWHERE! WE WERE STRANDED IN SEATTLE ON A CITY STREET AND HAD TO WAIT TWO HOURS FOR A TOW TRUCK TO TOW IT TO THE NEAREST DEALER THERE. WHEN IT ARRIVED AT THE DEALER IT WAS LATE AFTERNOON AND THE MECHANIC AGREED THAT THE SYSTEMS WERE NOT 'COMMUNICATING' WITH EACH OTHER BUT HE WOULD CHECK IT OUT IN THE MORNING...BY THE MORNING, THE VAN WAS NOT DOING IT'S CRAZINESS AND THE MECHANIC SAID HE COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG WITH IT! WE HAVE HAD THE LOCAL DEALER CHECK IT OUT AND THEY CANNOT SEEM TO FIND THE PROBLEM, BUT OBVIOUSLY THERE IS A PROBLEM. WHY CAN'T CHRYSLER FIGURE THIS OUT? YOU HAVE TO PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND THEN START IT AGAIN. IT MAY BE FINE FOR THE REST OF THE DRIVE OR IT MAY STALL AGAIN. TOTALLY RANDOM AS TO WHEN IT DOES THIS. IT HAS NOT HAPPENED AT HIGH SPEEDS ON THE HIGHWAY AS OF YET. I'VE HAD THE CAR TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES WITH THIS COMPLAINT AND EACH TIME THEY CAN'T REPLICATE IT OR IT WAS DUE TO THE KEY FOB RECALL WHICH WAS PERFORMED ON MY CAR 3 TIMES.

THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THE VEHICLE AS HAVING A MISFIRE IN CYLINDER FOUR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT IT WAS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC SUGGESTED THAT THE VEHICLE BE TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING OR REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. MY CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY HAD PERFORMED THE RECALL ON THE IGNITION SWITCH HOWEVER MY VAN STILL SHUTS DOWN WHILE DRIVING. AT FIRST IT STARTED UPON MORNING WHEN FIRST STARTING OUT THE DAY, BUT NOW IT SHUTS OFF EVEN AFTER 45 MINUTES OF DRIVING THE VEHICLE CAUSING ME TO LOOSE CONTROL OF THE STEERING AND HAVING TO BE CAUTIOUS SO THAT I WONT BE REAR ENDED OR WORSE. I HAVE TAKING IT IN TO BE DIAGNOSED BUT THE TECHNICIANS AFTER HAVING THE VAN HOOKED UP TO THEIR DIAGNOSTIC MACHINE ARE STILL UNABLE TO SEE ANYTHING WRONG. NO ERROR CODES ARE SHOWING. ALSO NOW, WHILE PARKED AND THE ENGINE OFF WITH NO KEYS... MY DOORS WILL JUST OPEN BY THEMSELVES OR AUTOMATICALLY LOCK. OIL CONSUMPTION BEYOND NORMAL. I HAVE BEEN RESEARCHING THIS ISSUE AND FOUND A WIDE PROBLEM FOR CHRYSLER/JEEP MODEL YEARS UP THROUGH 2011 WITH THE 3.8 LITER ENGINE. THERE IS A DEFECT WITH THE VALVE GUIDES AND SEALS THAT ALLOWS OIL TO BE BURNED AT A FAR GREATER RATE THAN WHAT THE INDUSTRY STANDARD WOULD SAY IS NORMAL OIL CONSUMPTION. WITH THIS ISSUE IT USES MORE THAN A QUART PER 1,000 MILES. DEALER HAS SAID THIS IS NORMAL OIL CONSUMPTION. SINCE THE GUIDES ARE DEFECTIVE ALONG WITH THE SEALS THIS IS CAUSING DRY START EVEN WITH LOW MILES! I AM METICULOUS WITH MAINTENANCE ON MY VEHICLES, DAILY DRIVEN MOSTLY HIGHWAY MILES APPROX. 30 MILES DAILY. WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STARTED IN THE MORNINGS YOU CAN HEAR THE DRY START TO THE VALVE TRAIN. IT GOES AWAY AS SOON AS THE ENGINE IS RUNNING AND OIL IS CIRCULATING. HOWEVER YOU CAN HEAR THE VALVE TRAIN IS NOISIER THAN USUAL. I HAVE BEEN SERVICING VEHICLES FOR OVER 35 YEARS NOW BOTH PROFESSIONALLY AND AS A HOBBYIST. THIS IS CLEARLY A DESIGN FLAW TO THIS PARTICULAR ENGINE. I PERSONALLY KNOW SOMEONE WHO RECENTLY HAD TO REPLACE THEIR ENTIRE ENGINE BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE. EVEN THE SIMPLEST OF INTERNET SEARCHES TURNS THIS ISSUE UP. I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE COMPLAINING ABOUT THIS ISSUE. WE WOULD LIKE THE DEALER TO ADDRESS THIS.

ABOUT A MONTH AGO, I TOOK MY VAN INTO CHRIS MYERS CHRYSLER, DAPHNE, AL, WHERE THEY REPLACED MY IGNITION SWITCH AND KEY FOB PER SAFETY RECALL #14V373000. ON FRI JULY 15, 2016, I WENT TO DRIVE MY VAN TO THE GROCERY STORE. I PRESSED THE DOOR OPEN BUTTON ON MY NEWLY PROVIDED KEY FOB AND THE VAN IMMEDIATELY WENT BERSERK. JUST ABOUT EVERY ELECTRICALLY POWERED DEVICE ON THE VAN EXPLODED INTO OPERATION - ALL AT THE SAME INSTANCE - WIPER BLADES ON ULTRA HIGH SPEED, REAR WINDOW WASHER SPEWING FLUID, HORN BLASTING, FAN MOTORS ROARING - AND ON AND ON! CONFINED TO MY WHEELCHAIR, THERE WAS NOTHING I COULD DO TO STOP THE CRAZINESS FROM THE VAN. ALL THE NEIGHBORS IN MY APARTMENT COMPLEX WERE NOW OUT IN THE PARKING LOT WITNESSING ALL THE OUTRAGEOUS THINGS THE VAN WAS DOING. I EVENTUALLY HAD TO GET THE HOOD OPEN AND DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY TO PUT A STOP TO THE VEHICLE SELF DESTRUCTING. WITH A FRIENDS HELP (A FRIEND WITH SOME VEHICLE MECHANIC EXPERTISE), WE CHECKED ALL FUSES - ALL WERE OKAY. WE WERE NOT ABLE TO START THE VAN - THE VAN WAS COMPLETELY "DEAD"! MY FRIEND MANAGES AN AUTO PARTS STORE IN GULF SHORES, AL, AND KNOWS THE SERVICE MANAGER AT GULF CHRYSLER, FOLEY, AL. AS SOON AS MY FRIEND DESCRIBED THE SITUATION, THE FOLEY SERVICE MANAGER ASKED IF THE RECALL HAD BEEN ACCOMPLISHED AND SAID IT WAS RELATED TO THE RECALL. THE NEXT MORNING, MY TOWING SERVICE TOWED MY VAN TO NEARBY CHRIS MYERS CHRYSLER. THEIR SERVICE MANAGER HAS PRESENTED ME A $1K BILL TO REPLACE A MODULE.

THEY COULD NOT IDENTIFY PROBLEM, BUT SAID A TECHNICAL REPORT SUGGESTED REPLACING THE PCM, WHICH WAS DONE ON 01/18/2016. ON 02/01/2016, THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN AND LOST ALL POWER, AFTER TRAVELING APPROX. 400 FT. TODAY, 2/17/2016, MY WIFE WAS DRIVING ON THE DALLAS NORTH TOLLWAY, AT APPROX. 50 MPH, DURING RUSH HOUR, AND THE ENGINE JUST SHUT DOWN. LUCKILY SHE WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER TO THE SHOULDER WITHOUT INCIDENT, PUT THE CAR IN PARK, AND RESTART THE ENGINE. IF THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH CHRYSLER, SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET KILLED IN AN AUTO ACCIDENT AS A RESULT OF THIS PROBLEM SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE QUICKLY.

THE TIPM IS A CAUSE OF THE VEHICLE HORN HONKING, WIPERS MOVING ON THEIR OWN, WIPER FLUID SPRAYING, AND THE LIGHTS FLASHING BY THEMSELVES. I HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE RANDOMLY STALL BY ITSELF ON THE HIGHWAY WHILE MY WIFE WAS DRIVING IT AND THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES. THESE ISSUES SEEM TO MYSTERIOUSLY GO AWAY WHEN I TRY TO DIAGNOSE THE ISSUE. LAST WEEK THE BATTERY DIED AND BECAUSE OF IT BEING A FEW YEARS OLD AND NOW BEING IN THE WINTER, I DECIDED TO REPLACE IT ONLY TO HAVE IT DIE AGAIN A DAY LATER. TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A MECHANIC WHO TESTED THE CHARGING SYSTEM AND SAID IT WAS ALL GOOD. THEN PROCEEDED TO DO A PARASITIC DRAW TEST WHERE HE DETERMINED THAT THE TIPM WAS CAUSING THE ISSUES. I DID SOME GOOGLE SEARCHES AND FOUND THAT THIS IS A WIDE STREAM PROBLEM WITH MANY OWNERS OF VARIOUS CHRYSLER VEHICLES HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. THIS IS NOT SAFE ESPECIALLY WHEN THE VEHICLE SHUTS DOWN WHILE DRIVING IT AND THERE ARE NO POWER BRAKES OR STEERING CAPABILITIES. A PERSON COULD END UP IN A TERRIBLE ACCIDENT OR EVEN BE KILLED NOT TO MENTION OTHER DRIVERS BEING AT RISK ALSO. DOESN'T SEEM TO MAKE MUCH SENSE THAT CHRYSLER IS DRAGGING THIS ON AND NOT DOING ANYTHING NOT TO MENTION THAT I CAN'T EVEN ORDER THE PART BECAUSE IT'S ON A NATIONAL BACK ORDER. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES IN THE LAST YEAR AND A FEW TIMES LAST YEAR BUT THE TECH WAS UNABLE TO CORRECTLY DIAGNOSE THE ISSUE.

I HAVE BEEN ON A "WAITING LIST" WITH MY LOCAL CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP IN TITUSVILLE FL FOR MONTHS AND EVERY TIME I CALL I AM STILL "NUMBER 6 ON THE WAITING LIST". THE VAN WOULD STOP AT LOW SPEEDS WITH LOSS OF STEERING AND BRAKING POWER. NO CODES WOULD BE TRIGGERED, IT WAS AS IF THE IGNITION WAS JUST TURNED OFF WHILE DRIVING. THE ELECTRICAL POWER WOULD STILL BE ON LIKE THE RADIO AND INSTRUMENTATION PANEL BUT THE STEERING AND BRAKING WOULD TIGHTEN UP; VERY SCARY FEELING. IT HAS HAPPENED TO MY WIFE DRIVING THE KIDS EIGHT TO TEN TIMES AND MYSELF TWO TIMES. THE DEALER SAID THE IGNITION RECALL WOULD TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM BUT I THINK IT IS SOMETHING ELSE (TOOK DEALER 6 MONTHS TO GET THE PART IN AFTER OUR FIRST INCIDENT). IT GOT SO BAD THAT MY WIFE WOULD HAVE ME WARM UP AND DRIVE THE VAN AROUND BEFORE SHE WOULD USE IT. AFTER MY EXPERIENCES WITH THE ISSUE MY PROCEDURE TO HER IS TO PLACE THE TRANSMISSION IN NEUTRAL WHILE THE VAN IS STILL ROLLING AND RESTART THE CAR (THIS IS ONLY IN THE CASE OF POSSIBLY BEING REAR ENDED). ALSO, THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT WOULD FLICKER RIGHT AT ENGINE CUT OFF BUT NO ENGINE LIGHT. FIVE DAYS BEFORE THE APPOINTMENT FOR THE RECALL, MY WIFE WITH KIDS AND PARENT WERE IN THE VAN ENTERING AN ON-RAMP TO THE FREEWAY WHEN THE ENGINE CUT OFF AGAIN CAUSING THE VAN TO REAR END THE CAR IN FRONT. THE ACCIDENT TOTALED THE VAN EVEN THOUGH THE SPEED WAS AROUND 8MPH; NO AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT. CHRYSLER OPENED AN INVESTIGATION BUT FOUND NO EVIDENCE OF ANY FAILURE FROM THE VEHICLE. HOW CAN THEY FIND ANYTHING WHEN NO CODES ARE TRIGGERED WHEN THE ENGINE CUTS OFF?

NEITHER KEY FOB WAS IN A PURSE OR POCKET AT THE TIME. I HAD TO RUN INTO THE HOUSE TO GET MY KEY FOB THAT WAS LOCATED IN THE BEDROOM TO SHUT THE VEHICLE DOWN. THE OTHER KEY FOB WAS ON THE KITCHEN COUNTER AND HAD NOT BEEN DISTURBED. THE VAN WOULD HAVE KEPT RUNNING COULD HAVE FILLED OUR HOME WITH CARBON MONOXIDE. BOTH OUR KIDS WERE INSIDE NAPPING AT THE TIME AND THEIR MOTHER WAS INSIDE THE HOUSE NOWHERE NEAR EITHER KEY FOB.

I DROVE IT HOME AND HAD VARIOUS ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS. THE WIPERS AND LIGHTS WOULD COME ON AUTOMATICALLY. I TOOK THE VAN BACK TO THE SAME DALER. THEY REPLACED THE TIPM. I TOOK IT HOME AAGAIN TO DISCOVER THE VAN TO HAVE THE ORIGINAL PROBLEM ALONG WITH THE ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS. MY VAN HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP APPROXIMATELY 2 MONTHS FOR THESE PROBLEMS. IT IS PRESENTLY THERE NOW. I HAVE SPENT A TOTAL OF $1689.61 FOR THESE REPAIRS. I AM NOT GETTING ANY RESULTS.

L25 RECALL. IGNITION FAILED THREE TIMES NO PARTS TO FIX YET. NO OTHER KEYS ON FOB LAST TIME IT TURNED OFF. KEY IS LOOSE IN THE IGNITION (PER THE LOCAL CHRYSLER SERVICE MGR). ENGINE TURNED OFF THREE TIMES WHILE DRIVE WITHOUT TOUCHING THE KEY. HAPPENED THREE TIME AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS FIRST TIME AT 45 MILES PER HOUR CAR JUST STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD.. ONCE FASTER, ONCE SLOWER. MY 22 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING THE CAR ALL THREE TIMES. ALL THE LIGHTS ON THE DASH COME ON AND SHE SAID THE STEERING WOULD NOT WORK AND THE BRAKES DID NOT WORK. SHE CALLED CRYING THE FIRST TIME FROM THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD DID NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO. ENGINE HAD STOPPED. (NO CODES SHOWED ON DIAGNOSTIC COMPUTER WHEN DEALER CHARGED FOR THE DIAGNOSTIC) SHE ENDED UP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD STOPPED. ENGINE DID RESTART ALL THREE TIMES. LOCAL CHRYSLER DEALER COULD NOT GET TO DUPLICATE EVEN THOUGH THE SAID THEY DROVE CAR 4 OR 5 TIMES. (EVEN THOUGH THEY SAID THEY DROVE IT 4 OR 5 TIMES, NO MILES WERE PUT ONE THE VAN WHILE IN THE DEALERSHIP. EVEN THE $115 DIAGNOSTIC CHARGE FROM THE DEALERSHIP SHOWED NO MILES WERE PUT ON THE VAN). THEY CHARGED BECAUSE THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT CONFIRM IT WAS THE L25 RECALL WHICH THEY HAVE NO PARTS TO FIX YET. THE LOCAL CHRYSLER DEALER SAID THEY RAN A DIAGNOSTIC FOR $115 THAT SHOWED NO COMPUTER CODES WHICH THE SERVICE MANAGER SAID SOUNDS LIKE THE IGNITION RECALL SYMPTOMS, BUT STILL CHARGED ME BECAUSE THEY COULD NOT GET IT TO DUPLICATE AT THE DEALERSHIP.(I DID NOT KNOW A SAFETY RECALL HAD TO BE DUPLICATED TO GET WORK DONE WITHOUT CHARGING) THE LOCAL CHYRSLER DEALERSHIP SAID THAT IT SHOULD BE SAFE TO KEEP DRIVING, THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. INCIDENT WITH CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY 2008 2/9/15 BETWEEN 4:26-4:29 P.M. DRIVING SLOW AFTER JUST HAVING GOTTEN A GREEN LIGHT (25MPH OR LESS) HIT A BIG BUMP IN THE ROAD. EVERY LIGHT ON THE DASHBOARD LIT UP AND I FELT THE ENGINE LOSE POWER. THE VAN COASTED FOR A COUPLE SECONDS THEN SEEMED TO GAIN POWER BACK. I TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL HARD TO THE RIGHT TO AVOID HITTING AN ONCOMING VEHICLE AND THANKFULLY THE VAN COASTED INTO A SNOW BANK WHICH STOPPED IT FROM MOVING ANY FARTHER. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL PROBLEMS WITH THE 2008 CHRYSLER MINIVAN. ELECTRICAL, ENGINE, IGNITION, ETC. I EVEN HAD THE ONE DOOR NOT HAVE THE SENSOR GO OFF AND PINCH MY ONE TWINS LEG INTO THE DOOR! OVER THE YEARS, THE IGNITION SWITCH POPS OVER AND STOPS THE CAR COMPLETELY WHILE DRIVING AT INTERMITTENT TIMES. I COULD BE GOING 20 MILES AN HOUR OR ON THE HIGHWAY DRIVING AT A HIGHER RATE OF SPEED. THE WHOLE VAN SHUTS DOWN SO IF YOU ARE ON THE HIGHWAY, YOU CAN BARELY STEER TO GET OVER (AND THANKFULLY I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO DO SO). I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE IN JUNE. IT IS NOVEMBER AND MY VAN STILL ISN'T FIXED. THE DEALERSHIP AND CHRYSLER KNOW THAT I AM HAVING THE ISSUE AND HAVE HAD IT. I HAVE CALLED AND VOICED MY COMPLAINTS. SINCE THE DAY WE BOUGHT THIS VAN USED WITH 24,000 MILES IT HAD A PROBLEM OF "USING OR EATING" OIL AT ABOUT 1 QUART FOR EVERY 1,000 MILES. WHEN I CONTACTED CHRYSLER, I WAS TOLD THAT THIS WAS NORMAL!! I WAS FLABBERGASTED AS I HAVE NEVER OWNED A CAR (I'VE HAD OVER 15) THAT USED OIL LIKE THIS MINIVAN DID. IT DIDN'T BURN IT OR LEAK, IT WAS BEING USED SOMEHOW. I TOOK THE VAN TO AVONDALE DODGE AND THEY FINALLY REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP AS THEY FOUND IT WAS CRACKED THIS WAS IN OCTOBER OF 2013, SO MY CLAIM WAS CLOSED WITH CHRYSLER. VAN SHUT DOWN AGAIN ON 12-22-13 WHILE LOOKING AT CHRISTIMAS LIGHTS IN MY COMMUNITY. FIRST TIME AT DEALER WAS TOLD CAR WOULD NOT COOPERATE AND THEY COULD NOT GET THE CAR TO STOP WHEN THEY DROVE IT AND NO ERROR CODE. I SPECIFICALLY ASKED ABOUT THE IGNITION AND WAS TOLD IT WAS DEFINITELY NOT THE IGNITION. WAS TOLD TO BRING IT BACK IF IT HAPPENED AGAIN - IT HAD HAPPENED EVERYDAY THE PREVIOUS WEEK INCLUDING 3 TIMES IN ONE DAY. THE VEHICLE NOW HAS ABOUT 73,000 MILES ON IT AND IS BURNING APPROXIMATELY 1 QUART OF OIL EACH 1500 MILES DRIVEN. I HAVE NEVER OWNED A VEHICLE WITH THIS PROBLEM AND HAVE READ OTHER COMPLAINTS ON THIS SITE OF THIS SAME ISSUE. I AM LUCKY THAT I CAUGHT THE ISSUE BEFORE SERIOUS ENGINE DAMAGE AND REPAIRS WERE REQUIRED LIKE SOME OF THE OTHER RESPONDENTS. THIS ISSUE SHOULD BE CONSIDERED FOR RECALL OR EXTENDED COVERAGE IN THE EVENT THAT SERIOUS ISSUES OCCUR. IT WASN'T BURNING OUT THE TAIL PIPE (NO BLUE SMOKE ANYWHERE, ANYTIME), SO THE ENGINE MUST HAVE BEEN USING IT. WHEN I CALLED THE CHRYSLER SERVICE DEPARTMENT, I WAS TOLD THAT IT IS NORMAL FOR ENGINES TO BURN A QUART OF OIL EVERY 1000 MILES. I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF ANY ENGINE USING THAT MUCH OIL EVER! I HAVE OWNED 16 CARS IN MY LIFETIME AND NOT ONE OF THEM EVER USED OIL - NONE! SO, KNOWING THIS I HAD TO KEEP 5 QUARTS OF OIL IN THE GARAGE AT ALL TIMES AND ABOUT EVERY OTHER WEEK I WOULD ADD ANOTHER QUART. SO MY WIFE WAS COMING HOME FROM WORK LATE ONE NIGHT AND THE VAN DIED WHILE DRIVING. I TOOK IT INTO A REPAIR SHOP (NOT CHRYSLER AS IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY) AND MY MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT ALONG WITH DROPPING A VALVE SEAT IN ONE OF THE HEADS, THAT THE ENGINE HAD ALSO SPUN 2 BEARINGS AND WERE SHATTERED IN THE OIL PAN. I HAVE ALWAYS MADE SURE TO KEEP OIL IN THIS ENGINE BECAUSE IT WAS USING SO MUCH AND WOULD CHECK IT REGULARLY AS I WAS ALWAYS WORRIED ABOUT IT - ESPECIALLY SINCE CHRYSLER SAID THAT IT WAS NORMAL - WHICH IT ISN'T! NOW I'M STUCK PAYING FOR A $3,500 ENGINE AND LABOR AT 103,000 MILES AND A 6 YEAR OLD VEHICLE. THIS IS ENTIRELY UNACCEPTABLE! I KNOW I'M NOT THE ONLY PERSON COMPLAINING ABOUT THIS SPECIFIC VEHICLE AS I HAVE LOOKED UP ONLINE TO FIND THAT THOUSAND'S OF OTHER PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUES. AS I WAS DRIVING 65 MPH, THE MINIVAN JUST COMPLETELY SHUT OFF (ENGINE AND DASHBOARD). THE FIRST PROBLEM WE NOTICED WITH THE VAN WAS THE BRAKES. THEY WEAR OUT WAY TO QUICKLY. IN THE 5 YEARS WE HAVE HAD THE VAN WE HAVE REPLACED THE BRAKES 6 TIMES AND ROTORS 2 TIMES. THE NEXT PROBLEM WAS WHAT SEEMS TO BE A WELL DOCUMENTED LEAK OF THE COOLANT ON TO THE ENGINE CAUSING SMELLY SMOKE. WE WERE FORCED TO BY THE PART FROM THE DEALER AS IT WAS NOT AVAILABLE ANYWHERE ELSE AND PAID OVER 100.00 FOR IT. THANKFULLY MY HUSBAND WAS ABLE TO REPLACE IT. NOW AT 80000 MILES THE KEY AND IGNITION HAS BEEN HAVING ISSUES. IT STARTED WITH NOT BEING ABLE TO REMOVE THE KEY FOB. THE ENGINE WILL CUT OFF BUT IT WILL ONLY GO INTO ACCESSORY. IF LEFT OVERNIGHT OR FOR SOMETIME IT WILL KILL THE BATTERY. IT STARTED OCCASIONALLY AND HAS PROGRESSED TO ALMOST EVERY TIME YOU CUT THE ENGINE OFF YOU CANNOT REMOVE THE KEY FOB. IT IS VERY FRUSTRATING HAVING TO LEAVE YOUR KEY IN THE IGNITION AND BE FORCED TO LEAVE IT SITTING IN A RANDOM PARKING LOT AND JUST HOPE THAT WHEN YOU RETURN THE BATTERY IS NOT DEAD. UNTIL THE EVAP HAPPENS I CANNOT USE THE DEFROSTER AS IT TAKES THE CLIMATE CONTROL OFF RECYCLE AND THE COOLANT FUMES THEN ENTER THE CAB. CHRYSLER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE, AS WELL AS ANOTHER ON DECEMBER 5, AND REFUSED TO FIX OR HELP WITH REPAIR COSTS, VEHICLE STILL NOT REPAIRED, STILL LEAKING COOLANT. 2 SMALL CHILDREN, 5 YRS AND 14 MONTHS, RIDE IN THIS VEHICLE ON A DAILY BASIS AND CAN BE EXPOSED TO THE FUMES. CAR STARTED SMOKING FOR FEW MINUTES WHEN CAR FIRST STARTED EACH DAY. TOOK IT TO A REPAIR SHOP, WHO CHANGED THE OIL, PUT IN A NEW FILTER, PLUGS, ETC. IT THEN WORKED FINE FOR A COUPLE MONTHS, AND THEN CLIMBING A HILL A LOUD KNOCKING STARTED. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS 2008 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE GOING 60 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE COASTED THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND WAITED FOR 5 MINUTES AND THEN TRIED TO RESTART. THE VEHICLE RESTARTED AND WAS DRIVEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE FUEL INJECTOR AND THE FUEL SYSTEM WAS FLUSHED. THE CONTACT DID NOT KNOW IF THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 25,900.

REOCCURING EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION. HAD 4 OIL CONSUMPTIONS TEST DONE. TEST ON 6/8/12 FAILED. BURNED 3 QUARTS OF OIL IN 2589 MILES. FILED LEMON LAW IN FEB 2012 FOR EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION AND OTHER ISSUES THAT HAVE BEEN REPAIRED MORE THAN 3X. CHRYSLER HAS DENIED THE LAWSUIT. SEEKING FURTHER ACTIONS AGAINST CHRYSLER AT THIS TIME. VAN IS CURRENTLY AT DEALERSHIP UNDERGOING OIL COMPRESSION AND LEAK DOWN TEST AS ADVISED BY CHRYSLER. DEALERSHIP IS NOT RETURNING PHONE CALLS AND WILL NOT TELL ME RESULTS OF TEST. DEALERSHIP STATES THEY ARE WAITING FOR FURTHER RESPONSE FROM CHRYSLER. I HAVE BEEN PROVIDED A RENTAL CAR PER EXTENDED WARRANTY COVERAGE. VAN HAS BEEN REPAIRED MORE THAN 30 TIMES FOR MULTIPLE ISSUES & RECALLS SINCE POSSESION AT 176 MILES. *TR
