I have an ABS module for my 2008 Chrysler Town and Country van that has gone bad. All of the warning lights came on for the brake system (ABS, Brake, ESP/BAS, traction). I took it to my local garage and they said that it was a bad ABS module and only the dealer could replace it because it needed to be re-programed. I took it to the dealer who also did a diagnostic and said that it was bad and needed to be replaced. BUT the part has been discontinued and they cannot find the part any where else. No other dealer has them. This sounds like a safety concern to me. The car does not have ABS and cannot be fixed. Can you do anything to force Chrysler to start making this part. It is not safe to drive on slippery roads and will lead to accidents and possibly deaths. Please help. ABS/TCS/EBP/ESP warning lights all illuminate during system check at 8mph. Diagnostic code C2200 - Internal Module Fault. Ongoing issue. Appears to be ambient temperature related. Internet+forum searchs find this exact condition very common on 2008 model Chrysler minivan. Requires ABS controller replacement with has been discontinued by Mopar. 2008 was the only model year to utilize this particular part number. 68030939AA. Superseded by 68030939AB.

The contact owns a 2008 Chrysler Town and Country. The contact stated that he had received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V396000 (Air Bags). The contact took the vehicle to a dealer where they were able to replace the air bag but not the emblem. The contact then moved to Iowa where he had the emblem replaced at Kriegers Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram (3205 US-61, Muscatine, IA 52761) under the same recall. After the emblem was replaced, the air bag warning light would intermittently appear on the instrument panel. The contact also stated that while driving at various speeds, the brakes would engage independently with the ABS and traction control warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who informed him that the cause of the failure was a result of a faulty air bag replacement. The dealer was notified of the failure and the contact was given an appointment for a diagnostic test. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.

THE ABS CONTROL MODULE IS DEFECTIVE AND THE ANTI-LOCK SYSTEM IS NOT OPERATING CORRECTLY. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE BRAKE PADS 3 TIMES IN THE LAST TWO YEARS. I TOOK MY VAN IN FOR BRAKE REPAIR AND THE SERVICE TECH (WHO HAD WORKED FOR CHRYSLER PREVIOUSLY) DETECTED THE ISSUE AND FOUND THE RECALL AFFECTING THE VEHICLE (NHTSA CAMPAIGN # 09V351000). FCA HAS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN OUT ON THIS ISSUE AND THIS IS A RECALL OUT FOR THIS PROBLEM, AFFECTING MY MAKE & MODEL YEAR BUT MY VIN NUMBER DOES NOT APPLY TO THE RECALL. HOW CAN THIS BE?

AFTER CHANGING BRAKE COMPONENTS AND BLEEDING SYSTEM. THE BRAKE PEDAL CONTINUES TO GO TO THE FLOOR. OCCASIONALLY WORKING AS IF NOTHING IS WRONG . ALL THIS AFTER BLEEDING SYSTEM AND OBTAINING A SOLID PEDAL. DIY VIDEOS HAVE SHOWN OTHERS WITH THE SAME ISSUES AND NO REAL ANSWER AS TO WHAT PART TO REPLACE OR IF ITS AVAILABLE. THE MASTER CYLINDER BEING CHANGED HAS NOT RESOLVED THE PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE CONTINUES TO BE DRIVEN IN TOWN AND HIGHWAY. MY VEHICLE WILL SHUT OFF WHILE I'M DRIVING. IT'S BEEN AN ONGOING ISSUE. THERE ARE NO LIGHTS THAT COME ON, ON THE DASHBOARD THAT INDICATE ANY ERROR, EXCEPT THE ANTILOCK BREAK LIGHT WILL OCCASIONALLY LIGHT UP. I COULD BE DRIVING SLOW OR FAST, IT MAKES NO DIFFERENCE, IT WILL JUST SHUT OFF, AND THE POWER STEERING AND BRAKES LOSE POWER AND DON'T WORK. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND CAN EASILY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. I HAVE DONE SOME RESEARCH ONLINE AND HAVE ALSO SEEN THIS EXACT SAME PROBLEM WITH HUNDREDS UPON HUNDREDS OF OTHER CONSUMERS WITH THE SAME MAKE AND MODEL. PEOPLE HAVE TAKEN THEIR VEHICLES TO CHRYSLER DEALERSHIPS AND MECHANICS AND NO ONE CAN FIGURE OUT THE CAUSE. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE. I HAVE SMALL CHILDREN, 2 STILL IN CARSEATS, AND MY YOUNGEST WHO IS 1 IS HANDICAP. I AM SCARED TO DRIVE IT. I STILL OWE $10,000 ON MY AUTO LOAN FOR THIS CAR, SO I AM STUCK WITH IT. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED IT WAS OVERHEATING AND RESULT OF THE COOLANT SYSTEM LEAKING, WHICH WE HAD THEM FIX, AND PROBLEM CONTINUES TO OCCUR. THERE WAS NO WAY IT WAS OVERHEATING THAT QUICKLY AFTER STARTING. DEALER HAS REFUSED TO LOOK AT OTHER POSTINGS ONLINE THAT SUGGEST THIS IS A PREVALENT PROBLEM, AND UNRELATED TO THE COOLANT SYSTEM.

YOU HAVE TO PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND THEN START IT AGAIN. IT MAY BE FINE FOR THE REST OF THE DRIVE OR IT MAY STALL AGAIN. TOTALLY RANDOM AS TO WHEN IT DOES THIS. IT HAS NOT HAPPENED AT HIGH SPEEDS ON THE HIGHWAY AS OF YET. VEHICLE HAS SHUT OFF 9 TIMES OVER A PERIOD OF 11 MONTHS. VEHICLE HAS NEVER BEEN EXPOSED TO ANY EXTREME WEATHER CONDITION, WATER, SALTS, OR OTHER ITEMS THAT MIGHT IMPACT THE VEHICLE. VEHICLE DID NOT RESTART FOR 3 MINUTES AND 7 SECONDS. CONDITION- VEHICLE WAS DRIVING DOWN HIGHWAY 90 IN KILLEEN TEXAS NEAR THE TJ MILLS EXIT. SPEED WAS 72 MPH, VEHICLE LOST ALL POWER AND SHUT OFF. STEERING WHEEL AND BRAKES LOCK. VEHICLE NEARLY CAUSED A MULTI CAR COLLISION, BUT DUE TO OTHER DRIVERS BEING AWARE NO ACCIDENT HAPPENED. CONDITION- FORT HOOD TEXAS, VEHICLE IS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, NEAR A STOP LIGHT APPROACHING AT A SPEED OF 13 MPH. VEHICLE SHUTS OFF, STEERING LOCKS, BRAKES LOCK, AND VEHICLE WILL NOT GO OUT OF DRIVE. VEHICLE IS NEARLY HIT BY TRAFFIC FROM BEHIND. MILITARY POLICE ARRIVE ON SCENE AND ASSIST DRIVER WITH MOVING VEHICLE TO A SAFE LOCATION. VEHICLE DID START AFTER 22 MINUTES AND 7 SECONDS. VEHICLE WAS DRIVING STRAIGHT, THERE WERE NO HILLS PRESENT. MY TRACTION SENSOR IS NOT WORKING WHICH IS CAUSING MY A SAFETY ISSUE. WHEN I START DRIVING (IN MOTION), THE ABS TRACTION STARTS EVEN WHEN THERE IS NO WATER, ICE OR POOR DRIVING CONDITIONS. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE ABS MODULE AND ITS STILL DOING IT. THEY NOW SAY THEY WILL HAVE TO REPLACE THE SENSOR IN THE STEERING COLUMN (WHEEL). THIS IS VERY SCARY AS IT STOPS MY ACCELERATION AND IT AFFECTS THE ANTI-LOCK BREAKS. I WAS HOPING THIS WAS ALL DUE TO AN MINOR AUTO COLLISION BUT THE INSURANCE COMPANY TOLD ME THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO WAY THIS COULD HAVE BEEN CAUSED BECAUSE OF IT. THEY SAID ITS A COINCIDENCE AND THAT IT JUST HAPPENED ON ITS OWN AT THE SAME TIME. I WOULD SAY THE FAULT IS UNKNOWN.

IN ONE MONTH OUR BRAKES HAVE LOCKED UP ON US WHILE DRIVING. THIS PAST TIME, A "FLASH FLAME" SPARKED, WENT OUT IMMEDIATELY BUT STILL SMOKED. HAD BOTH OF MY KIDS IN CAR SEATS AT THE TIME. TOWED TO CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP AND THEY "COULDN'T FIGURE OUT THE PROBLEM" SO WANTED US TO PAY $4,000 JUST TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE BRAKE SYSTEM INSTEAD OF TAKING THEIR TIME TO PIN POINT WHAT THE PROBLEM COULD BE. IT WAS IN THE SHOP FOR 16 DAYS AND ONLY 1 OF THOSE 16 DAYS WAS IT LOOKED AT. THEN THE GENTLEMEN KEPT PUSHING BLAME ON ANOTHER COMPANY, ETC. THEN WHEN WE PICKED THE VAN UP, THE ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON ALONG WITH THE STEERING WHEEL WINDING. NEVER HAS THE ENGINE LIGHT COME ON UNTIL IT WAS IN THEIR HANDS. THEY ARE ALSO STATING THAT THERE WAS NEVER A "FLAME", I HAD MY FAMILY AND A STRANGER HELP ME AT THE SCENE AND THERE WAS SOOT ALONG WITH THE BRAKE LINE HAVING SOME KIND OF DAMAGE FROM BEING MELTED. THEY ARE NOT HELPING US AT ALL! THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS MATTER!! WE HAVE READ SEVERAL FORUMS WITH OTHER PEOPLE HAVE THIS SAME ISSUE AND THE ROTORS, BRAKE PADS, CALIPERS CONTINUOUSLY PREMATURELY HAVING TO BE REPLACED. I EVEN EMAILED CHRYSLER THE LINKS.

MY BRAKES SEEM TO LAST FROM 20,000 TO 30,000 MILES. REPLACEMENT PADS ARE UNDER A ONE YEAR WARRANTY AND THOSE ARE FREE WHEN THEY NEED REPLACED. HOWEVER, AFTER SOME RESEARCH, IT IS THE CALIPER DESIGN THAT IS CAUSING THIS ISSUE. GUIDE RODS NEED TO BE CONSTANTLY GREASED TO AVOID STICKING. I HAVE SEEN THE BRAKES SMOKING A BIT A FEW TIMES AND RIMS FEEL REALLY HOT TO THE TOUCH DUE TO BRAKES DRAGGING. CALIPER UPGRADE TO THE HD 2 PISTON DESIGN SEEMS TO FIX THE ISSUE IN NEWER MODELS. TIRED OF PUTTING ON BRAKES ONCE A YEAR AND THIS ALSO CAUSES POOR GAS MILEAGE. VAN HAS 127,000 MILES ON IT CURRENTLY.

RECALLS ISSUED FOR MULTIPLE MODELS BUT NOT MINE. I WAS TOLD, I HAVE ALL THE SYMPTOMS BUT I DON'T HAVE THE FLU ! NOW THEY WANT ALMOST $ 1000 TO FIX IT ! THE TIPM IS A CAUSE OF THE VEHICLE HORN HONKING, WIPERS MOVING ON THEIR OWN, WIPER FLUID SPRAYING, AND THE LIGHTS FLASHING BY THEMSELVES. I HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE RANDOMLY STALL BY ITSELF ON THE HIGHWAY WHILE MY WIFE WAS DRIVING IT AND THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES. THESE ISSUES SEEM TO MYSTERIOUSLY GO AWAY WHEN I TRY TO DIAGNOSE THE ISSUE. LAST WEEK THE BATTERY DIED AND BECAUSE OF IT BEING A FEW YEARS OLD AND NOW BEING IN THE WINTER, I DECIDED TO REPLACE IT ONLY TO HAVE IT DIE AGAIN A DAY LATER. TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A MECHANIC WHO TESTED THE CHARGING SYSTEM AND SAID IT WAS ALL GOOD. THEN PROCEEDED TO DO A PARASITIC DRAW TEST WHERE HE DETERMINED THAT THE TIPM WAS CAUSING THE ISSUES. I DID SOME GOOGLE SEARCHES AND FOUND THAT THIS IS A WIDE STREAM PROBLEM WITH MANY OWNERS OF VARIOUS CHRYSLER VEHICLES HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. THIS IS NOT SAFE ESPECIALLY WHEN THE VEHICLE SHUTS DOWN WHILE DRIVING IT AND THERE ARE NO POWER BRAKES OR STEERING CAPABILITIES. A PERSON COULD END UP IN A TERRIBLE ACCIDENT OR EVEN BE KILLED NOT TO MENTION OTHER DRIVERS BEING AT RISK ALSO. DOESN'T SEEM TO MAKE MUCH SENSE THAT CHRYSLER IS DRAGGING THIS ON AND NOT DOING ANYTHING NOT TO MENTION THAT I CAN'T EVEN ORDER THE PART BECAUSE IT'S ON A NATIONAL BACK ORDER. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES IN THE LAST YEAR AND A FEW TIMES LAST YEAR BUT THE TECH WAS UNABLE TO CORRECTLY DIAGNOSE THE ISSUE.

THE VAN WOULD STOP AT LOW SPEEDS WITH LOSS OF STEERING AND BRAKING POWER. NO CODES WOULD BE TRIGGERED, IT WAS AS IF THE IGNITION WAS JUST TURNED OFF WHILE DRIVING. THE ELECTRICAL POWER WOULD STILL BE ON LIKE THE RADIO AND INSTRUMENTATION PANEL BUT THE STEERING AND BRAKING WOULD TIGHTEN UP; VERY SCARY FEELING. IT HAS HAPPENED TO MY WIFE DRIVING THE KIDS EIGHT TO TEN TIMES AND MYSELF TWO TIMES. THE DEALER SAID THE IGNITION RECALL WOULD TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM BUT I THINK IT IS SOMETHING ELSE (TOOK DEALER 6 MONTHS TO GET THE PART IN AFTER OUR FIRST INCIDENT). IT GOT SO BAD THAT MY WIFE WOULD HAVE ME WARM UP AND DRIVE THE VAN AROUND BEFORE SHE WOULD USE IT. AFTER MY EXPERIENCES WITH THE ISSUE MY PROCEDURE TO HER IS TO PLACE THE TRANSMISSION IN NEUTRAL WHILE THE VAN IS STILL ROLLING AND RESTART THE CAR (THIS IS ONLY IN THE CASE OF POSSIBLY BEING REAR ENDED). ALSO, THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT WOULD FLICKER RIGHT AT ENGINE CUT OFF BUT NO ENGINE LIGHT. FIVE DAYS BEFORE THE APPOINTMENT FOR THE RECALL, MY WIFE WITH KIDS AND PARENT WERE IN THE VAN ENTERING AN ON-RAMP TO THE FREEWAY WHEN THE ENGINE CUT OFF AGAIN CAUSING THE VAN TO REAR END THE CAR IN FRONT. THE ACCIDENT TOTALED THE VAN EVEN THOUGH THE SPEED WAS AROUND 8MPH; NO AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT. CHRYSLER OPENED AN INVESTIGATION BUT FOUND NO EVIDENCE OF ANY FAILURE FROM THE VEHICLE. I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD GOING BETWEEN 35-40 MPH AND MY CAR SHUT OFF. THE RADIO AND HEADLIGHTS WERE WORKING BUT THE ENGINE WAS OFF, THE POWER STEERING STOPPED WORKING AND THE BRAKES WERE NOT WORKING CORRECTLY. ONCE FASTER, ONCE SLOWER. MY 22 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING THE CAR ALL THREE TIMES. ALL THE LIGHTS ON THE DASH COME ON AND SHE SAID THE STEERING WOULD NOT WORK AND THE BRAKES DID NOT WORK. SHE CALLED CRYING THE FIRST TIME FROM THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD DID NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO. ENGINE HAD STOPPED. (NO CODES SHOWED ON DIAGNOSTIC COMPUTER WHEN DEALER CHARGED FOR THE DIAGNOSTIC) SHE ENDED UP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD STOPPED. ENGINE DID RESTART ALL THREE TIMES. LOCAL CHRYSLER DEALER COULD NOT GET TO DUPLICATE EVEN THOUGH THE SAID THEY DROVE CAR 4 OR 5 TIMES. (EVEN THOUGH THEY SAID THEY DROVE IT 4 OR 5 TIMES, NO MILES WERE PUT ONE THE VAN WHILE IN THE DEALERSHIP. EVEN THE $115 DIAGNOSTIC CHARGE FROM THE DEALERSHIP SHOWED NO MILES WERE PUT ON THE VAN). THEY CHARGED BECAUSE THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT CONFIRM IT WAS THE L25 RECALL WHICH THEY HAVE NO PARTS TO FIX YET. INCIDENT WITH CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY 2008 2/9/15 BETWEEN 4:26-4:29 P.M. DRIVING SLOW AFTER JUST HAVING GOTTEN A GREEN LIGHT (25MPH OR LESS) HIT A BIG BUMP IN THE ROAD. EVERY LIGHT ON THE DASHBOARD LIT UP AND I FELT THE ENGINE LOSE POWER. THE VAN COASTED FOR A COUPLE SECONDS THEN SEEMED TO GAIN POWER BACK. I HAVE BEEN WAITING TO BE NOTIFIED THAT THE FREQUENCY OPERATED BUTTON IGNITION KEY HAS COME IN. TODAY WHEN I WENT TO START THE VAN IT SEEMS THAT IT WANTS TO START BUT HESITATES I TRIED SEVERAL TIMES BUT IT KEPT DOING THE SAME THING. THE PADS,ROTORS,CALIPERS AND BRAKE LINES WERE REPLACED WITH AFTER MARKET PARTS. THESE ALSO GOT HOT CAUGHT FIRE. WE THEN TOOK THE CAR TO A DIFFERENT CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD WE SHOULD HAVE USED OEM PARTS. WE THEN HAD THIS DEALERSHIP REPLACE THE AFTERMARKET PARTS WITH OEM PARTS. THE BRAKES AGAIN CONTINUED TO RUN HOT. 3,000 MILES LATER THE STEERING WHEEL BEGAN TO VIBRATE AND SMOKE CAME INTO THE VEHICLE. DURING THE 99,000 MILES WE HAVE USED THIS MINIVAN THE BRAKES ALWAYS RAN HOT AND HAVE CAUGHT FIRE THREE TIMES. LOOKING ON THE INTERNET I SEE THOUSANDS HAVE SIMILAR PROBLEMS. I WAS AT FIRST TOLD THAT THEY WERE NOT RESPONSIBLE AND THAT NOTHING WOULD BE DONE ON THEIR END. THE FOLLOWING DAY, I SPOKE WITH THE CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP WHERE THE VAN WAS TOWED AND WAS TOLD BY THEIR HEAD MECHANIC THAT THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO THE (FACTORY) ALLOY RIM. I AGAIN CONTACTED CHRYSLER WITH THIS NEW INFORMATION AND WAS TOLD THAT MY CASE WAS BEING MOVED UP TO A "SPECIALIST" AND THAT I WOULD HAVE TO WAIT 3-5 DAYS BEFORE I HEARD FROM THEM. OUR VAN MAKES A GRINDING OR RUBBING NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT END/AXLES. IT IS ESPECIALLY NOTICEABLE WHEN WE ARE TURNING. I NOTICED AT APPROXIMATELY 48,000 MILES THAT MY 2008 TOWN & COUNTRY WAS BURNING OIL DURING USE WITH NO VISIBLE OIL LEAKS AFTER TAKING THE VEHICLE IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS 3 QUARTS OF OIL LOW WHEN CHECKED BEFORE DRAINING THE OIL. I HAVE BEEN CHECKING THE OIL ONCE PER MONTH SINCE. THE VEHICLE NOW HAS ABOUT 73,000 MILES ON IT AND IS BURNING APPROXIMATELY 1 QUART OF OIL EACH 1500 MILES DRIVEN. I HAVE NEVER OWNED A VEHICLE WITH THIS PROBLEM AND HAVE READ OTHER COMPLAINTS ON THIS SITE OF THIS SAME ISSUE. I AM LUCKY THAT I CAUGHT THE ISSUE BEFORE SERIOUS ENGINE DAMAGE AND REPAIRS WERE REQUIRED LIKE SOME OF THE OTHER RESPONDENTS. THIS ISSUE SHOULD BE CONSIDERED FOR RECALL OR EXTENDED COVERAGE IN THE EVENT THAT SERIOUS ISSUES OCCUR. OTHER ISSUES I HAVE EXPERIENCED DURING MY OWNERSHIP OF THIS VEHICLE I PURCHASED NEW ARE THE PREMATURE FAILURE OF THE FRONT HUBS AND PREMATURE WEAR OF THE BRAKE COMPONENTS. THE FRONT HUBS HAVE FAILED ON EACH SIDE 3 TIMES ALREADY IN THE 73,000 MILES AND NOW THE DRIVERS SIDE HUB IS MAKING A LOUD NOISE AGAIN SIGNALING THAT IT WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED SOON. NOW AT 80000 MILES THE KEY AND IGNITION HAS BEEN HAVING ISSUES. IT STARTED WITH NOT BEING ABLE TO REMOVE THE KEY FOB. THE ENGINE WILL CUT OFF BUT IT WILL ONLY GO INTO ACCESSORY. IF LEFT OVERNIGHT OR FOR SOMETIME IT WILL KILL THE BATTERY. IT STARTED OCCASIONALLY AND HAS PROGRESSED TO ALMOST EVERY TIME YOU CUT THE ENGINE OFF YOU CANNOT REMOVE THE KEY FOB. IT WILL RELEASE BUT IT IS AFTER SOMETIME SITTING IN PARK. IT IS VERY FRUSTRATING HAVING TO LEAVE YOUR KEY IN THE IGNITION AND BE FORCED TO LEAVE IT SITTING IN A RANDOM PARKING LOT AND JUST HOPE THAT WHEN YOU RETURN THE BATTERY IS NOT DEAD. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS ISSUE AND IT IS VERY COMMON AMONG THIS VAN AND OTHER CHRYSLER VEHICLES. AT APPROX 30,000 MILES, I ROTATED THE TIRES, THE FRONT/REAR BRAKES WERE SHOT. I REPLACED EVERYTHING. I LATER LEARNED ABOUT THE RECALL. I HAD ISSUES WITH THE SLIDING REAR DOORS(REOPENING WITH NOTHING IN THE WAY AND CLOSING TOO HARD, IE SAFETY FEATURE INOP), THE AUTOMATIC BACK DOOR(BROKEN LINKAGE), THE "Y" COOLING HOSE BROKE/SPLIT, USING A QUART OF OIL EVERY 1,000 MILES AND LOCKING WITH THE KEYS INSIDE. SEVERAL WEEKS LATER, ON 8/16/11, I BROUGHT MY VEHICLE TO CHRYSLER AGAIN TO REPORT THE SAME BAD PULSATION FEELING WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED AND FELT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS STRUGGLING TO BRAKE FAST ENOUGH. I WAS INFORMED BY CHRYSLER THAT THE LEFT FRONT ROTOR WAS SCORED AND PITTED AND THE COATING FAILED FOR MOPAR RO 180802. ON 8/16/11, THEY REPLACED THE LEFT FRONT ROTOR. ONE YEAR LATER MY VEHICLE HAS 53,754 MILES ON IT. ON 8/30/12, I BRING MY VEHICLE TO CHRYSLER DUE TO A VERY HIGH PITCHED BRAKE SQUEAL. CHRYSLER COMPLETES A FULL BRAKE INSPECTION AND INFORMS ME THAT THE BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS ARE FINE AND DO NOT NEED TO BE REPLACED. ABOUT 4 DAYS LATER, THE HIGH PITCHED SQUEAL FROM MY BRAKES IS LOUDER AND OCCURRING MORE. I AM FEELING A BAD PULSATION FEELING WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED. I AM TOLD I NEED NEW FRONT ROTORS. I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO REPLACE ROTORS AFTER 12,000 MILES. CHRYSLER SHOULD RECALL THE BRAKES IN THE 2008 TOWN AND COUNTRY MODEL. BRAKES ARE ONE OF, IF NOT THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF A VEHICLE THAT SHOULD BE FUNCTIONING PROPERLY AND SHOULD NOT NEED TO BE REPLACED 1-2 TIMES PER YEAR. WE HAVE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS FROM DAY ONE WITH OUR CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. WE PURCHASED IT WITH 12,000 MILES ON IT, AND HAVE HAD TO HAD THE BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS CHANGED OUT TWICE. WE HAVE BEEN TOLD THE VEHICLE WILL NEVER STOP SQUEAKING. WE HAVE TAKEN IT IN FOR PADS TO BE REPLACED, AND YET IT STILL CONTINUES TO SQUEAK. AT THE BEGINNING OF SUMMER, MY HUSBAND HAD THE OIL CHANGED, AND ASKED FOR THE GUY TO LOOK AT THE BRAKES, HE SAID WE HAD PLENTY OF 'THICKNESS' ON THEM. I WAS OUT WITH MY CHILDREN JUST A FEW MONTHS LATER, AND VERY FEW MILES LATER, TO FIND MY BRAKES HAD DIFFICULTY STOPPING THE VEHICLE. I WASN'T ABLE TO FULLY STOP AT A STREET LIGHT AND ENDED UP RUNNING THE RED WITH MY CAR HANGING COMPLETELY OVER THE LINE. I HAD 3 CHILDREN IN THE VEHICLE AND WAS LUCKY THAT NO ONE WAS HURT. ON A SEPARATE OCCASION MONTHS PRIOR, I WAS AGAIN WITH MY CHILDREN IN THE VEHICLE, AND FOUND THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY STOPPED RUNNING WHILE I WAS DRIVING 65 MILES PER HOUR ON A BUSY STREET IN MID COMMUTER TRAFFIC. THE CAR COMPLETELY JUST SHUT OFF. I WAS THANKFULLY IN THE RIGHT HAND LANE AND ABLE TO PULL TO THE SIDE WITH THE AID OF THE BRAKES. AFTER PULLING OUT THE KEY AND PUTTING IT BACK IN, I WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. I TOOK IT IN AND THE MECHANIC SAID THEY WERE UNABLE TO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. LOOKING ON BLOGS, IT APPEARS THIS HAS HAPPENED ON NUMEROUS OTHER OCCASIONS FOR OTHER PEOPLE. THIS CAR HAS PROVEN ON TWO OCCASIONS THAT IT CAN HAVE FATAL CONSEQUENCES IF LEFT UNTREATED. FIXING THE BRAKES AND STALLING ISSUES ISN'T GOING TO HELP, BECAUSE THE PROBLEMS COME WITH NO WARNING. I HAD NO IDEA THAT MY BRAKES EVEN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE WE WERE TOLD THEY WERE OKAY ONLY SOON TO FIND OUT THEY WEREN'T. THIS ALL HAPPENED BECAUSE OF THE PERMANENT SQUEAK. IN MY 2008 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY WHICH NOW HAS ABOUT 70,000 MILES ON IT I HAVE CHANGED THE FRONT BRAKES AND ROTORS 6 DIFFRENT TIMES. WHEN GOING DOWN A HILL AND BRAKING THE STEERING WHEEL SHAKES SO BAD AND I DONT FEEL LIKE I HAVE A FULL PEDAL. BOUGHT THIS CAR FROM CAR MAX 4 MONTHS AGO AND 4 WEEKS AGO HAD THE FRONT PADS, ROTORS, AND CALIPERS REPLACED. THE CAR WAS SHAKING VIOLENTLY WHEN BREAKING. AS IT TURNED OUT, THE INNER RIGHT FRONT BRAKE PAD WARPED DUE TO EXCESSIVE HEAT. IT WARPED IN ITS SLOT IN THE CALIPER...BENDING BACKWARD TOWARD THE CALIPER PISTON. AFTER IT COOLED IT WAS NOT APPLYING FORCE EVENLY TO THE ROTOR AND THAT IS WHAT CAUSED THE SHAKING. OK SO I HAVE IT ALL REPLACED AND RUNS OK EXCEPT FOR ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS WHEN EXITING THE VEHICLE WE NOTICED WHAT I WOULD CALL EXCESSIVE HEAT BY THE TIRES. TODAY MY WIFE DRIVES HOME FROM WORK AND A FEW ERRANDS AND UPON EXITING THE VEHICLE SHE NOTICES FLAMES COMING FROM THE LEFT FRONT TIRE AREA. I DOUSE THEM WITH A HOSE AND THEN DO A GOOGLE SEARCH TO SEE IF OTHER 2008 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY OWNERS HAVE HAD ANY PROBLEMS LIKE THIS. I AM BLOWN AWAY BY THE INORDINATE LARGE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS BEING FILED REGULARLY SINCE 2008. ALMOST ALL OF THEM ARE COMPLAINING ABOUT THE BRAKING SYSTEM ON THIS VEHICLE. IT IS UNDERSIZED FOR THE SIZE AND WEIGHT OF THIS VEHICLE. MANY OWNERS HAD TO REPLACE EVERYTHING I HAD TOO AND SOME SEVERAL TIMES A YEAR. 2ND SET OF BRAKES PREMATURELY FAILING. FIRST SET OF FRONT AND REAR BRAKES FAILED AT 21,811 MILES AND WERE COVERED UNDER CHRYSLER RECALL IN 2010. THE BRAKES INSTALLED AT THAT TIME HAVE FAILED WITH 45,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE WITH 23,189 MILES ON THE BRAKES. INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP TOLD ME THAT 1MIL WAS LEFT ON THE BRAKES AND ROTORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AS WELL. THE REPAIR SHOP SAID THEY HAVE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE IT BEFORE WITH SUCH LOW MILES AND BRAKES COMPLETELY SHREDDED!!! HE SAID THAT I WAS VERY CLOSE TO COMPLETE LOSS OF BRAKES WHICH COULD HAVE RESULTED IN AN ACCIDENT. TOTAL COST OF REPAIRS ARE $379 NOT INCLUDING TAX. THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF OTHER TOWN AND COUNTRY OWNERS THAT ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS - WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT!!! THESE VANS ARE DANGEROUS. CHRYSLER ALREADY REPLACED THE FRONT BRAKES FOR THIS VEHICLE ONCE BEFORE FOR PREMATURE FAILURE - THERE IS OBVIOUSLY A ISSUE WITH THIS VAN. I HAVE CONTACTED CHRYSLER TODAY 8/22/12 AND THEY REFUSE TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM AND WILL NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. WHILE DRIVING DOWN A SECONDARY ROAD AT APPRIXIMATELY 25 MPH THE MOTOR SHUT DOWN AS WELL AS POWER TO THE STEERING AND BRAKES. PROCEEDED TO COAST DOWN THE ROAD UNTIL A SAFE PLACE WAS IDENTIFIED TO TURN OFF THE ROAD. SINCE POWER HAD CUTOFF STEERING AND BRAKING THE VEHICLE WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULTY. STOPPED THE VEHICLE SAFELY AND PLACED THE SHIFTER INTO PARK AND TURNED THE IGNITION TO THE OFF POSITION. RESTARTED THE VEHICLE WITH NO INDICATION OF ANY FURTHER PROBLEMS. TWO MONTHS LATER THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURED BUT VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING AT 35 MPH THIS TIME. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY TOURING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, HE HEARD A RATTLING NOISE IN THE FRONT BRAKE AREA. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE BRAKES AND ROTORS WERE TOO SMALL FOR THE VEHICLE. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT HAD TO CHANGE THE BRAKES AND ROTORS EVERY 14,000 MILES. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 40,200 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 55,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE TRAVELING 60 MPH, THE BRAKES FAILED AND BEGAN TO GRIND. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION WHERE THEY STATED THAT THE ROTORS, CALIBERS AND THE BRAKE PADS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND THEY INFORMED THE CONTACT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 28,000.

OUR 2008 TOWN & COUNTRY TOURING HAS BEGUN SHUTTING DOWN WHILE MOVING WITHOUT WARNING. IT HAS HAPPENED SIX TIMES IN 3 MONTHS AT BOTH LOWER SPEEDS, AND ONCE GOING 60+ MPH ON A BUSY INTERSTATE. WHEN IT LOSES POWER, WE LOSE STEERING AND BREAKING POWER MAKING IT VERY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION, PARTICULARLY FOR A CAR NORMALLY FILLED WITH CHILDREN. IT ALSO OCCASIONALLY WILL STALL EVERY TIME YOU START IT. OURS WILL THROW NO CODES AND NO WARNING LIGHTS COME ON, SO NO ONE HAS BEEN ABLE TO FIND THE PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP CLAIMS NO KNOWLEDGE. THIS PROBLEM IS DISCUSSED ON MULTIPLE FORUMS AND GOING BACK ONLY ONE YEAR THERE ARE AT LEAST 7 OTHER COMPLAINTS OF THE SAME ISSUE (ODI ID NUMBERS: 10453837, 10452564, 10450629, 10441113, 10438800, 10428568 & 10422766) AND MANY MORE DATING PAST THAT. I KNOW YOU ALL ARE PROBABLY VERY BUSY REVIEWING COMPLAINTS, BUT CHRYSLER AND NHTSA SHOULD NOT BE WAITING FOR SOME ONE TO GET IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT BEFORE FIGURING THIS OUT BECOMES A PRIORITY. *JS
