THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKE CALIPERS SEIZED. THE LOCAL DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.

I HAD TO INSTALL NEW BRAKES AT 24,000 AFTER TAKING MY VEHICLE TO THE DEALER BECAUSE THERE WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A RECALL AND THE DEALER TOLD ME IT HAD EXPIRED . I JUST HAD TO REPLACE MY BRAKE PADS AND INSTALL NEW ROTORS AT 53,000 MILES. I HAVE MY RECEIPTS AND WOULD LIKE TO BE REIMBURSED AND INVESTIGATE WHY THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT THE RECALL HAD EXPIRED. DURING THE PAST THREE MONTHS ALL OF A SUDDEN THE HORN STARTS BLOWING ERRATICALLY, THE WINDSHIELD WASHERS AND WIPERS ACTIVATE, LIGHTS START FLASHING, THE DOORS LOCK AUTOMATICALLY AND THE TRANSMISSION WILL NOT SHIFT INTO HIGH. THIS HAS HAPPENED FIVE OR SIX TIMES SINCE AUG., HAVING OCCURRED FOUR TIMES IN THE PAST THREE WEEKS. IT HAPPENS WHILE THE CAR IS RUNNING AND WHILE IT IS NOT. WITH EACH INCIDENT THE SYMPTOMS BECOME WORSE AND THE DURATION IS LONGER. LAST WEEK, I HAD TO PULL OFF THE ROAD AND WAIT FIVE OR TEN MINUTES FOR IT TO STOP AS I COULD NOT SEE WHERE I WAS GOING. YESTERDAY, IT OCCURRED WHILE SITTING IN THE GARAGE AND I HAD TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY TO STOP IT. THE CHRYSLER DEALER SAYS IT IS THE TOTAL INTEGRATED POWER MODULE THAT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED @$524.12. ADDITIONALLY NOW AT 54,000 MILES THE FRONT ROTORS ARE WARPED AND NEED TO BE REPLACED @ $409. THEY HAD TO BE REPLACED @ 25,834 AND 35,272. WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED THE FRONT END AND STEERING VIBRATE UNCONTROLLABLY. BOTH CONDITIONS ARE SAFETY ISSUES, HAVE BEEN WELL DOCUMENT BY HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE, AND ARE OBVIOUS INHERENT DEFECTS IN THE VEHICLE, AND SHOULD BE ISSUES THAT RESULT IN A RECALL OF THESE VEHICLES AND REPAIRS OR REPLACEMENTS MADE AT CHRYSLER'S EXPENSE, YET THEY CONTINUE TO DENY THERE IS AN INHERENT PROBLEM. BOTH ISSUES COULD RESULT IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT.

I ORIGINALLY WROTE A LETTER TO CHRYSLER CORPORATION IN AUGUST OF 2010 AND INSTRUCTED THEM TO FORWARD THE LETTER TO YOU. I DO NOT BELIEVE THAT EVER HAPPENED SO I DECIDED I SHOULD FILE A COMPLAINT. MYSELF. BACK IN 2010 CHRYSLER NOTIFIED OWNERS THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKING SYSTEM IN 2008 TOWN AND COUNTRY'S THAT LEADS TO PREMATURE WEAR. IN THE NOTICE IT SAID THAT CHRYSLER WOULD PAY FOR THE FIRST REPLACEMENT OF BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS BASED ON LOW MILEAGE REPOLACEMENTS BEING REQUIRED. I FEEL THIS IS AN UNSAFE SITUATION THAT WITH NO WARNING WHATSOEVER THE PADS CAN JUST WEAR OUT AND THE ROTORS WARP. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE FRONT BRAKE PADS 3 TIMES WITH NEW ROTORS TWICE. REPLACED AT 12,000, 21,000, 34,000. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN THROUGH A TOTAL OF 4 NEW SETS OF PADS AND 3 SETS OF ROTORS. I ALSO KNOW THAT THERE IS A DEFECT WITH THE FRONT END GEOMETRY ON THE VAN AND THAT COULD BE A CONTRIBUTING FACTOR. AT A SERVICE APPOINTMENT SHORTLY AFTER THE INITIAL PURCHASE I WAS INFORMED THAT THE VAN NEEDED ALL NEW STRUTS, SHOCKS, BUSHINGS, AND FRONT SWAY BAR. THE SERVICE MANAGER INDICATED THAT THERE WAS A BULLETIN, AND THAT THE HEIGHT OF THE MOUNTING POINTS WERE OFF, AND THUS ALL NEW PARTS WERE NEEDED TO FIX THE FRONT END GEOMETRY, SO THE FRONT SWAY BAR WOULD NOT BREAK OR WEAR OUT PREMATURELY. I FEEL THAT THE ENTIRE BRAKE SYSTEM IS TOO LIGHT FOR THE OVERALL WEIGHT OF THE VEHICLE AND THE HEAT GENERATED BY THE ROTORS IS VERY DANGEROUS. I FEEL THE BRAKES SHOULD BE RECALLED BY CHRYSLER, AND FIXED. *TR

I HAVE HAD THE FRONT BRAKES PADS REPLACED AT 15000 MILES, AND THEN THE FRONT PADS REPLACED AGAIN AT ABOUT 30000 MILES. THE REAR PADS WERE REPLACED ALSO AROUND 30,000 MILES. WHEN AT THE DEALER FOR AN OIL CHANGE AT 50000 THEY SAID THE REAR PADS NEED REPLACING. I WAS FED UP WITH THE BRAKES ON THIS VEHICLE AND DID NOT HAVE THE DEALER REPAIR THEM. TODAY AT ABOUT 54000 MILES I TOOK MY VEHICLE INTO MIDAS AND THEY SHOWED ME THAT THE REAR DRIVERS SIDE BRAKE PAD WAS WORE DOWN NEARLY ALL THE WAY WHILE THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE PAD WAS ONLY ABOUT HALF. (UNEVER WEAR). THE REAR DRIVERS SIDE ROTAR ALSO SHOWED SIGNS OF OVERHEATING. (HAD A BLUEISH/PURPLE SHEEN TO IT) I PAID ABOUT 600 BUCKS TO HAVE THE REAR PADS, CALIBERS, AND ROTARS REPLACED WITH CERAMIC PADS. *JS

NOISE NOT CURED. AT 50560 ON 3/7/12, NOISE VERIFIED BY CHRYSLER MECHANIC, REPLACED RIGHT REAR ROTOR AND REAR BRAKE PADS. I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE NEW IN FEBRUARY 2009. AT 30K MILES THE FRONT BRAKES WERE SQUEALING AND MY HUSBAND REPLACED THEM. THE BRAKES SHOULD NOT HAVE WORN OUT THIS SOON. THE INNER PAD ON THE RIGHT FRONT BRAKE WAS WORN TO THE METAL, RUINING THE ROTOR. THE OUTER PAD ON THE FRONT RIGHT SHOWED ON A 30% WEAR. THINKING THAT THE CALIPER WAS DEFECTIVE,WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER FOUND NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CALIPER, SO THEY SAID. AT 48K MILES, THE BACK BRAKES WERE SCRUBBING...AGAIN, THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN AT THIS LOW MILEAGE. WE OWN 3 OTHER CHRYSLER VEHICLES THAT HAVE OVER 200K MILES EACH AND THE BACK BRAKES HAVE NEVER BEEN REPLACED NOR GIVEN ANY TROUBLE. BECAUSE THE BACK BRAKES ON THE 2008 VAN WERE SCRUBBING SO BADLY, MY HUSBAND PRECEDED TO REPLACE THEM. WHAT HE FOUND WAS AN UTTER DISASTER. POOR ENGINEERING IN PARKING BRAKE DESIGN WOULD NOT ALLOW RELEASE OF THE RIGHT PARKING BRAKE. THE INNER PAD(AGAIN ON THE RIGHT SIDE) WAS COMPLETELY WORN INTO THE ROTOR. THE PARKING BRAKE DOES NOT RELEASE WHEN USED, THEREFORE THE INNER BRAKE PAD CONTINUES TO RIDE ON THE ROTOR UNTIL IT IS WORN OUT. THEREFORE, I CANNOT USE THE PARKING BRAKE ANYMORE. WE SPOKE WITH SEVERAL MECHANICS, EVEN AT THE CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP, AND WAS INFORMED BY ALL OF THEM THAT THE BRAKE SYSTEM USED ON THESE VANS WAS THE SAME USED PREVIOUSLY ON HONDA, TOYOTA, FORD, AND GENERAL MOTORS. WE ARE HAVING ISSUES WITH MOPAR PRODUCTS. WE REPLACED BRAKES AT 31,843 MILES AT CHRYSLER WORLD IN ABRAHMS, WI. CHRYSLER HELPED OUT WITH THAT THEY SAW A DEFECT IN THEIR VAN PRODUCTS AND PAID PART OF THE COST. AT 53,861 MILES CHRYSLER WORLD TOLD US WE ARE DUE FOR NEW BRAKES IN THE FRONT AND NEED REAR BRAKES ALSO! THEY SAID IT WAS OK TO DRIVE TO AZ BUT THAT THE BRAKES NEEDED ATTENTION BY SPRING. THAT'S 22,018 MILES AFTER THE REPLACEMENT! SOMETHING IS WRONG AND IT IS NOT OUR DRIVING! IN THE SUMMER WE LIVE IN RURAL WI AND WE TRAVEL TO SURPRISE, AZ IN THE WINTER. THE WI TO AZ TRIP IS 2,100 MILES, MOSTLY INTERSTATE. SINCE OUR PURCHASE MORE THAN 20,000 OF OUR MILES HAVE BEEN ON INTERSTATE HIGHWAYS. ABOUT 95% OF OUR MILES ARE RURAL AND INTERSTATE MILES! THE NEXT PROBLEM OCCURRED ON OUR WAY TO AZ IN OCTOBER. SOME TYPE OF SPRING BROKE IN THE STEERING COLUMN. THIS WAS REPAIRED AT TOM OBRIEN CHRYSLER JEEP IN GREENWOOD, IN. THIS WAS REPLACED BY ANOTHER MOPAR PRODUCT. HOW LONG WILL THAT LAST? THEY SAID I NEEDED NEW BRAKES ALSO BUT IT WOULD BE OK TO CONTINUE TO AZ! I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH CHRYSLER CORP. ON 11-16-2011 A CHRYSLER REPRESENTATIVE PHONED AND STATED THEY WILL DO NOTHING AS THE CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY. HE GAVE ME THIS CASE# [XXX] FOR REFERENCE TO HIS PHONE CALL AND THEIR DECISION. MY BRAKES ARE GRINDING AT TIMES WHEN I STOP AND I FEEL CHRYSLER MUST HAVE A BIGGER PROBLEM WITH THIS VAN THAN THEY ARE TELLING OR WILLING TO MAKE RIGHT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER INSPECTING THE VEHICLE IT APPEARED THAT THE BURNING SMELL WAS COMING FROM THE WHEELS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE REAR DRIVER SIDE CALIPER FROZE AND BURNED THE BRAKES AND ROTORS. AS A RESULT, THE BRAKES, ROTORS AND CALIPERS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 30,274.

PAID 550.00 TO FIX THEM AND GOT BAD PARTS OFF THE SHELF.. THEN I GOT A NOTICE IN THE MAIL 3 MONTHS AFTER I FIXED THEM ABOUT BAD BEARINGS IN THE FRONT AND THAT I CAN BE REFUNDED THE MONEY SPENT TO FIX THEM. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD SQUEALING SOUND WHILE DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE CONTACT EXIT THE VEHICLE AND UPON INSPECTION NOTICED THE FRONT AND REAR WHEELS WERE EXTREMELY HOT. THE FAILURE OCCURRED CONSISTENTLY AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS. THE WEATHER WAS NOT A FACTOR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THE FRONT AND REAR BRAKE PADS HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED A SECOND TIME AT APPROXIMATELY 6,000 MILES. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10,000. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE ALL 4 TIRES AS WELL, AND THAT WAS ONLY AT A LITTLE OVER 40,000 MILES. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE BATTERY, AND I AM NOW FIXING THE A/C & HEATING SYSTEM FOR THE THIRD TIME. AND EVERY TIME I CHECK THE MAIL I RECEIVE ANOTHER RECALL NOTICE! AND ALL THE ISSUES "COULD CAUSE A FIRE". THIS CAR HAS BEEN NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS SINCE THE MOMENT I BOUGHT IT. IT IS SO AGGRAVATING THAT CHRYSLER WON'T OWN UP TO THE ISSUES WITH THESE CARS. ASIDE FROM THE MULTIPLE RECALLS THIS CAR HAS HAD IN THREE YEARS, THE BREAK SYSTEM IS AWFUL. I HAD REPLACED THE FRONT BREAKS AND ROTORS AROUND 28000 MILES (MAYBE EARLIER I CAN'T REMEMBER). NOW THE BACK BREAKS ARE SHOT AND ONCE AGAIN, I WILL NEED BREAKS AND ROTORS THAT WILL COST ME $375 ACCORDING TO THE DEALER. MY CAR HAS 38,000 MILES ON IT. WE STARTED HEARING SQUEAKING NOISES IN OUR WHEELS APPROXIMATELY 9 MONTHS AFTER WE PURCHASED THE NEW VEHICLE AND BOTH FRONT AND REAR BRAKES AND ROTORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT ONLY 10,000 MILES. THIS WAS DUE TO SEVERE OVERHEATING CAUSING THE BRAKES TO PREMATURELY WEAR. ONE YEAR LATER WE STARTED HEARING THE SAME SQUEAKING NOISE AGAIN AND TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THE REAR BRAKES LOCKED AGAIN CAUSING SEVERE OVERHEATING AND PREMATURE WEARING. IT WAS ONLY 6,000 MILES SINCE THE LAST BRAKES WERE REPLACED. OUR VAN ONLY HAS 18,000 MILES ON IT TOTAL AND THE BRAKES AND ROTORS HAVE BEEN REPLACED TWICE. CHRYSLER CORP KNOWS OF THIS DEFECT AND IS UNWILLING TO DO ANYTHING TO RECTIFY THE SITUATION. UNLESS THE ENTIRE BRAKE SYSTEM IS REPLACED THE PADS AND ROTORS WILL CONTINUE TO WEAR PREMATURELY. IN 2010 THE DEALER HAD TO REPLACE THE FRONT AND REAR BRAKES PADS AND ROTORS. THE LOUD SQUEALING NOISE FROM THE REAR NEVER REALLY WAS RESOLVED. MOST RECENTLY WE HAVE NOTICED A BURNING ODOR AND SMELL FROM THE REAR TIRE AREA AND THE REAR WHEEL RIMS ARE VERY HOT TO THE TOUCH WHEN WE STOP THE CAR TO INSPECT. WE HAVE RESEARCHED THIS ON-LINE AND NOTICE THAT THERE ARE HUNDREDS, IF NOT THOUSANDS, OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS. I CONTACTED THE SERVICE MANAGER AT MY DEALER IN CHICAGO AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT THEY HAVE SEEN AND ARE EXPERIENCING THIS ISSUE FREQUENTLY WITH BRAKE TYPE ISSUES FOR CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY 2008 MODELS AND THE STANDARD REMEDY IS TO CHANGE THE BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING FOR 20 YEARS, HAVE OWNED MANY VEHICLES AND AM NOT DRIVING ANY DIFFERENTLY THAN I HAVE DRIVEN IN THE PAST. THE DEALER DID NOT GIVE ME THE VEHICLE AS HE SAID IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND I WAS FORCED INTO CHANGING MY PADS FOR $300.00. PLEASE NOTE, I HAD ALREADY REPLACED MY FRONT BRAKE PADS AND THE ROTORS AS THEY ARE WORN OUT AT ONLY 15,961 MILES IN APR-2010. ALSO WHEN IT RAINS OR SLUSH THE UNDERNEATH OF THE CAR BANGS AS IF SOMETHING IS LOOSE. CUSTOMER ASKED DEALERSHIP TO CHECK ALSO ON 3/11/2011 AND STILL THE SAME ANSWER "COULD NOT RE-CREATE" AND FOUND NOTHING. CUSTOMER ASKED TO CHECK BRAKES, BEARINGS, CONVERTER AND DIFFERENTIAL ON 3/11/2011 FOR THE 4TH TIME AND AGAIN NOTHING WAS FOUND. THE FAILURE CONTINUED AND WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE THE FRONT AND BACK ROTORS AND BRAKE PADS WERE REPLACED; HOWEVER, THE GRINDING NOISE CONTINUED TO OCCUR. A TECHNICIAN ADVISED THAT THE FRONT AND BACK ROTORS AND BRAKE PADS WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT STATED THEY HAVE OWNED THE VEHICLE FOR APPROXIMATELY TWO YEARS AND HAVE HAD THESE REPAIRS MADE THREE TIMES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 64,000.

I WISH TO COMPLAIN ABOUT MY 2008 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY'S CONSTANT BRAKE PROBLEMS. I HAVE BOTH FRONT AND REAR BRAKES FULLY REPLACED AT 30,000 MILE ONLY TO FAIL INSPECTION LESS THAN 12,000 MILES LATER THAT THE PADS AS WELL AS THE ROTORS NEED TO BE REPLACED AGAIN AT MY EXPENSE BECAUSE ALTHOUGH IT WAS UNDER 12,000 MILES(THE WARRANTY) I WAS 39 DAYS OVER 12 MONTHS. MY RESEARCH HAS SHOWN MULTIPLE COMPLAINT ON THIS VEHICLE FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM RESULTING IS A PRORATED AUTHORIZED REIMBURSEMENT FROM CHRYSLER BACK IN JULY. WE BOUGHT THIS VAN USED IN MARCH 2010. IT HAS BEEN THE WORST VEHICLE WE HAVE EVER PURCHASED. PRIOR TO THIS 2008 MODEL, WE HAD A 2005. WE REALLY LIKED IT SO WE FIGURED WE'D UPGRADE SO TO SPEAK. THAT WAS THE MOST EXPENSIVE MISTAKE EVER. SINCE THEN WE HAVE REPLACED THE BRAKES AND ROTORS TWICE AND NOW IT NEEDS REAR BRAKE ROTORS. WHEN I AM BRAKING AT ANY SPEED THE VAN SHAKES. THE VAN FEELS COMPLETELY UNBALANCED FOR SOME REASON. WE HAD AN ALIGNMENT DONE ON IT, NEW TIRES, A/C LINE BROKE, RADIO WOULD STOP WORKING, AND ONCE WHILE I WAS DRIVING THE VAN HAD THIS WEIRD WHITE SMOKE COMING OUT OF THE VENTS. THE STEERING IS ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE AND IT EITHER PULLS TO THE LEFT OR RIGHT. WHEN I BRAKE, I HAVE TO PUSH THE BRAKE ALL THE WAY DOWN BEFORE IT FINALLY STARTS TO SLOW. I HAVE 5 YOUNG CHILDREN AND I FEEL EXTREMELY UNSAFE IN THIS VAN. UNFORTUNATELY NOT ONLY ARE WE WASTING MONEY ON REPAIRS, BUT WE'RE WASTING PRECIOUS TIME IN DEALERSHIPS/MECHANICS THAT COULD BE SPENT TOGETHER AS A FAMILY. I REFUSE TO DRIVE HIGHER SPEEDS IN FEAR THAT THE BRAKES WILL FAIL. IN NO WAY DO I HANDLE THIS VEHICLE IN AN AGGRESSIVE MANNER. I FOLLOW ALL SPEED LIMITS AND DO NOT RIDE THE BRAKES. THIS IS NOT I REPEAT NOT NORMAL WEAR ON TEAR FOR ANY KIND OF VEHICLE! THE DEALERSHIP HAS BEEN NO HELP TO US. WE HAVE A BUMPER TO BUMPER EXTENDED WARRANTY AND IT'S DOING NO GOOD SINCE IT'S NOT EVEN COVERED. WE WILL NEVER EVER PURCHASE A CHRYSLER VEHICLE AGAIN AND GO OUT OF OUR WAY TO DISCOURAGE OTHERS FROM BUYING THEM AS WELL. ACCORDING TO CHRYSLER THIS IS "NORMAL MAINTENANCE." HOWEVER MANY OTHER TOYOTA AND HONDA MINI VAN OWNERS THAT I HAVE SPOKEN WITH HAVE HAD THEIR BRAKES LAST FOR 35K TO 40K MILES. IF YOU RESEARCH CHRYSLER VAN BRAKES ONLINE, MANY PEOPLE HAVE POSTED IN FORUMS THAT THEIR BRAKES ALSO WEAR DOWN AT AN ALARMING RATE. CHRYSLER ACKNOWLEDGES THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM BUT AS OF YET HAS NOT PROVIDED A FIX BESIDES REPLACING THE PADS AND ROTORS A RIDICULOUS AMOUNT OF TIMES (ALTHOUGH THEY ARE FOOTING THE BILL MINUS A DEDUCTIBLE UP UNTIL 36,000 MILES AT WHICH POINT IT BECOMES THE OWNER'S PROBLEM). CHRYSLER SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR MAKING A PRODUCT WHICH DOES NOT PERFORM PROPERLY AND POSES A SAFETY HAZARD AS MANY PEOPLE HAVE SAID ONLINE THEY DID NOT REALIZE THEY EVEN HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES UNTIL THEY BROUGHT IT IN FOR OTHER SERVICE AND WERE TOLD THAT THE BRAKES WERE COMPLETELY WORN DOWN AFTER BEING REPLACED ONLY A COUPLE OF THOUSAND MILES AGO. MY BRAKES PULSATE VIOLENTLY ON THE HIGHWAY AND GOING DOWNHILL, BUT THERE IS NOTHING CHRYSLER CAN DO ABOUT IT SHORT OF REPLACING THE ROTORS WHEN THE PULSATION GETS UNBEARABLE. IN 30K MILES I AM CURRENTLY ON MY 6TH SET OF ROTORS AND I HAVE SPENT COUNTLESS HOURS ON THE PHONE WITH CHRYSLER BUT THEY WILL DO NOTHING FOR ME. BRAKE ISSUES - HAVING TO REPLACE BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS, WE ARE ON OUR THIRD SET FOR OUR 2008 CHRY TOWN AND COUNTRY MINI VAN. PRESENT MILEAGE 39884. ON TWO OCCASIONS THE BRAKES OVER HEATED WITH SMOKE, LOTS OF SMOKE. ONCE IN DEC.2009 AND THE OTHER 2010. WE USED SNOW TO COOL OFF THE BRAKES. WE WERE CONCERNED THAT A FIRE WOULD START. WE HAD TAKEN OUR VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER FOR THE BRAKES AND WE WERE TOLD THEY WERE FINE THIS PRIOR TO THE SMOKING INCIDENT IN 2009. LATER IN OCTOBER 2009 WE WENT TO FIRESTONE TO GET THE TIRES ROTATED THEY ADVISED THE BRAKES NEED TO BE REPLACED AT 22,324 MILES. THEY CALLED THE DEALER AND REPORTED THE BRAKES, THE DEALER ADVISED BRAKES WERE NOT COVERED. WE HAD THE BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS REPLACED A COUPLE DAYS LATER ON OWN. THEN IN JULY 2010 THE BRAKES OVER HEATED AND SMOKED AGAIN. ON SEPT 2010 THE BRAKE PADS AND FRONT ROTORS HAD TO BE REPLACED. UPON LOOKING INTO THIS ISSUE ON THE INTERNET THERE SEEMS TO BE A LOT OF COMPLAINTS WITH THE 2008 CHRY TOWN AND COUNTRY HAVING BRAKE ISSUES. WE DID GET A NOTICE FROM CHRY. IN ADDITION, THERE WAS A BURNING ODOR COMING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO RECUR INTERMITTENTLY. THE DEALER DISCOVERED THAT THE REAR BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS WERE DESTROYED AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. APPROXIMATELY 4 MONTHS LATER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. ON ONE OCCASION, THE CONTACT NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM THE REAR PASSENGER TIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE SHE WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS A FAILURE WITHIN THE CALIPERS. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 32,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 37,000.

I OWN 2008 CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY VAN AND LAST WEEK WHEN I TOOK MY VAN FOR REGULAR OIL CHANGE TO THE DEALER(GURNEE DODGE), THE TECHNICIAN TOLD ME THAT I HAVE TO REPLACE MY FRONT BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS AS THEY ARE WORN OUT AT ONLY 15,000 MILES. I HAVE NEVER HAD TO REPLACE BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS AT SUCH A LOW MILEAGE ON ANY VEHICLE I HAVE OWNED. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING FOR 20 YEARS, HAVE OWNED MANY VEHICLES AND AM NOT DRIVING ANY DIFFERENTLY THAN I HAVE DRIVEN IN THE PAST. THE DEALER DID NOT GIVE ME THE VEHICLE AS HE SAID IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND I WAS FORCED OR TRICKED INTO CHANGING MY PADS FOR $300.00 (PARTS AND LABOR) AND THEY SAID THEY COULD RESURFACE THE ROTOR INSTEAD OF REPLACING IT AFTER SEEING MY FRUSTRATION. LATER I CAME TO KNOW THAT THERE A TSB ISSUED ON 2008 CHRYSLER AND DODGE VEHICLES TSB# 05-006-08 ISSUED DEC.8TH. 2008 REGARDING THE BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS AND I CALLED THE DEALER AND TOLD HIM ABOUT THIS, HE SAYS HE HAS NEVER HEARD ABOUT THIS AND NOT READY TO HONOR THIS TSB. *TR

I HAVE ROUGHLY 26,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE AND HAVE TAKEN IT TO SEVERAL MECHANIC, INCLUDING CHRYSLER SERVICE SHOP AT LOCAL DEALERSHIP, AND THE CONSENSUS IS THAT ALL ROTORS AND BRAKE PADS MUST BE REPLACED, NONE CAN BE TURNED/MACHINED/LATHED, AND NOTHING IS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY, EVEN THOUGH THERE IS A 36,000, 3 YEAR BUMPER-TO-BUMPER WARRANTY STILL IN EFFECT. THE ROTORS AND BRAKE PADS PUT ON THIS VEHICLE AT ASSEMBLY WERE SUB-PAR. CHRYSLER HAS RECEIVED THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS REGARDING THIS PROBLEM FROM 2008 T&C OWNERS AND REFUSES TO COVER THE ROTOR REPLACEMENT OR REPAIR AND ROUNTINELY PUTS THE BLAME ON THE OWNER.

MY 2008 CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY LIMITED SUDDENLY MADE A GRINDING NOISE AT 12,200 MILES. THERE WAS NO BREAK SQUEALING/NOTIFICATION, AND WITHOUT WARNING THE BRAKES WERE METAL TO METAL. THE VAN NEEDED FRONT BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS REPLACED. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT THESE VEHICLES DON'T GO VERY LONG WITHOUT NEEDING BRAKES AND THAT THE PADS ON THIS VAN DO NOT SQUEAL. I ASKED HOW I WAS SUPPOSED TO KNOW THAT I WOULD NEED NEW BRAKES AT SUCH LOW MILEAGE IF THEY DON'T SQUEAL, AND THE DEALER SAID THAT I WOULD HAVE KNOWN IF I HAD MY TIRES ROTATED EVERY 6K MILES. I HAD HIM CHECK MY HISTORY AND IT WAS LESS THAN 6K SINCE LAST ROTATION SO HE TOLD ME TO COMPLAIN TO CHRYSLER. I DID, THEY OPENED A CASE AND TOLD ME TO TAKE THE VAN TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER INSPECTED THE VAN AND TOLD ME THAT IT NEEDED FRONT BRAKE PADS AND BOTH ROTORS REPLACED AND THAT BECAUSE OF THE CONDITION OF THE BRAKES, IT WAS NOT SAFE FOR ME TO DRIVE AND THEY COULD NOT LET ME LEAVE IN THAT CONDITION. THEY REPORTED THIS BACK TO THE CASE MANAGER AT CHRYSLER. AFTER 4 DAYS AND NUMEROUS PHONE CALLS FROM BOTH THE SERVICE MANAGER AND MYSELF, CHRYSLER AGREED TO DO A "ONE-TIME GOODWILL" REPAIR FOR ME, AND I WAS TO ASKED TO PAY $50.

AT 16,000 MILES FRONT AND REAR PADS AND REAR ROTORS WERE REPLACED AND FRONT ROTORS RESURFACED AGAIN WHICH PUT THEM BELOW SPECS AND AT 20,000 MILES FRONT ROTORS WERE REPLACED DUE TO DEALER ERROR IN MACHINING THE ROTORS BELOW SPECS AND REPLACED FRONT PADS. BRAKES HAVE A VERY LOUD SQUEAL THAT IS EAR PIERCING AND NOT NORMAL BUT I WAS TOLD BY A 3RD DEALER THAT THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE THAT I JUST HAVE TO LIVE WITH DUE TO POOR DESIGN ON BRAKES OF THESE VEHICLES. VERY UNHAPPY WITH MY PURCHASE. I HAVE ONLY HAD THE VEHICLE FOR 1 1/2 YEARS AND ONLY PUT 9,000 MILES ON IT SO FAR AND I AM NOT INTERESTED IN REPLACING BRAKES TO LINE THE POCKETS OF A STRUGGLING VEHICLE MANUFACTURER BY PURCHASING THEIR PARTS. AFTERMARKET PADS AND ROTORS ARE MORE EXPENSIVE THAN OEM BECAUSE THE MODEL IS NEWER AND BECAUSE THEY SELL SO MANY.

MECHANIC'S WRITE-UP SAID "VERIFIED CUSTOMER COMPLAINT AND FOUND THE REAR BRAKE CALIPERS TO BE SEIZED AND NOT WORKING PROPERLY. REPLACED CALIPERS AND EVERYTHING IS OK." THE WARRANTY ONLY COVERS THE CALIPERS. MY VAN HAS 30,000 MILES WHEN THIS CAME TO OUR ATTENTION, AND THE BRAKES ARE WORN WELL BEYOND A SAFE AMOUNT. OUR VAN HAS LESS THAN 18,000 MILES ON IT, AND IS A LEASE THAT WE ARE THINKING OF TURNING IN NOVEMBER. WHEN WE LEASED THE BRAND NEW VAN, WE FELT CONFIDENT THAT ISSUES SUCH AS BRAKES GOING DURING THE LEASE PERIOD WOULD NOT BE A CONCERN (KNOWING THAT WE ONLY WERE ABLE TO USE 31,500 TOTAL MILES OVER THE 3 YR LEASE.) I FEEL THAT BASED ON THE EXORBITANT AMOUNT OF CONSUMER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS EXACT ISSUE WITH THIS YEAR & MODEL OF VAN THAT THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ISSUED TO OWNERS OF THIS VAN. THERE DO NOT SEEM TO BE SIMILAR PROBLEMS WITH THE 2007 & 2009 MODELS. IT IS UNFAIR TO 2008 BUYERS TO HAVE TO 'DEAL' WITH THIS PROBLEM FOR THE LIFE OF THE VAN. DURING THE 23 POINT INSPECTION THAT THE DEALERSHIP PERFORMS WITH THE OIL CHANGE, THE SERVICE REP CONTACTED ME ABOUT A KNOWN FREQUENT ISSUE WITH PRE-MATURE WEAR OF THE ROTORS AND BREAKING PADS ON THE TOWN AND COUNTRY MINI-VANS. THE SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE MENTIONED IT BEING A KNOWN PROBLEM THAT THEY SEE FREQUENTLY ON THESE VEHICLES AND THAT CHRYSLER AUTHORIZED THE WORK BEING COMPLETED WITH A $100 CONSUMER CO-PAY TO HAVE THE WORK COMPLETED. MY CONCERN IS THAT THE PUBLIC OR OWNERS OF THE VANS WERE NOT NOTIFIED. I BOUGHT A BRAND NEW 2008 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY VAN IN NOV 2008. AFTER ABOUT A YEAR, DEC 2009 MY VAN STARTED SHAKING BADLY DURING BRAKING. IT HAD 17,050 MI (MOSTLY HIGHWAY MILES). I BROUGHT THE VAN INTO A CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP FOR INSPECTION. THEY TOLD ME THE BRAKES WERE 100% SHOT AND I NEEDED A COMPLETE BRAKE REPLACEMENT (ROTORS, PADS, FLUSH, ETC.) WHICH COST ME $650. I CALLED CHRYSLER COMPLAINING THAT BRAKES ON A NEW VEHICLE SHOULD NOT WEAR OUT ON A VEHICLE WITH LESS THAN 17K MILES (ESPECIALLY THE REAR BRAKES). CHRYSLER TOLD ME THIS WAS NORMAL BUT WOULD LOOK INTO IT. AFTER A MONTH I'VE NOT HEARD BACK. I'VE OWNED A 1992 AND 1999 CHRYSLER VANS AND NEVER HAD THESE BRAKE PROBLEMS. THE FRONT BRAKES ON MY OLDER VANS LASTED OVER 35K MILES AND THE REAR LASTED OVER 50K MILES. MY NEIGHBOR OWNS A 2006 TOWN & COUNTRY AND HAS HAD ONLY 2 BRAKE JOBS IN 80K MILES. APPARENTLY HE BRAKE DESIGN DID NOT CHANGE MUCH FROM THE 2007 MODEL HOWEVER THE 2008 GAINED A LOT OF WEIGHT (NEW MODEL) WHICH CONTRIBUTED TO THE PREMATURE BRAKE FAILURE. MINIMALLY, CHRYSLER SHOULD HAVE NOTIFIED ME OF THE PREMATURE BRAKE FAILURES BUT NEVER DID. I'VE CHECKED SAFETY COMPLAINTS ON YOUR ODI WEBSITE AND SAW 85 COMPLAINTS FOR BRAKES ON THE 2008 T&C. I ALSO CHECKED COMPLAINTS FOR EARLIER YEARS AND ONLY SAW ONLY A VERY FEW BRAKE COMPLAINTS. I'VE CHECKED THE INTERNET AND FOUND HUNDREDS UPON HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS RELATED TO BRAKE PROBLEMS ON THE 08 T&C. SO HERE'S MY SUMMARY: 1) I NEVER EXPECTED THE BRAKES TO GO AT SUCH LOW MILEAGE SO IF I NEEDED TO DO AN EMERGENCY STOP I PROBABLY WOULD HAVE HAD AN ACCIDENT. 2) APPARENTLY THERE WAS A DESIGN FLAW BUT CHRYSLER REFUSES TO ADMIT IT 3) CHRYSLER IS SILENTLY REIMBURSING OWNERS WHO FILE THE LOUDEST COMPLAINTS. I HAD TO HAVE THE BRAKES AND ROTORS CHANGED ON MY T & C AT 28,000 MILES. WITHIN 24 HOURS OF THE INITIAL BRAKE NOISE, THE BRAKES WERE MAKING A GRINDING NOISE. I PURCHASED A 2008 CHRYSLER T&C IN SEPTEMBER OF 2008. THE VAN FIRST HAD A PROBLEM WITH FRONT BREAKS AT 18K MILES. I HAD THEM REPLACED AT 23K MILES, THEN HAD THOSE REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY AT 34K MILES. I WENT BACK TO THE DEALER FOR FRONT BRAKES AGAIN AT 39K MILES AND THEY TURNED DOWN THE ROTORS AND REPLACED THE PADS. AT THE SAME TIME MY REAR BRAKES NEEDED TO BE DONE, AND I HAD PREVIOUSLY BEEN TOLD I WOULD BE TAKEN CARE OF DUE TO ALL THESE ISSUES, BUT A NEW TECH TRIED TO HIT ME FOR A FULL COST, SO I, WITH SOME HELP, DID THE JOB BY MYSELF. I'M NOW BACK TO NEEDING NEW FRONT BRAKES, AT 47K MILES. I'LL DO THE JOB MYSELF, BUT THE LACK OF CONCERN FROM THE DEALER HAS BEEN DISAPPOINTING. I'VE BEEN TOLD PREVIOUSLY FROM THE DEALER TECH THAT CHRYSLER KNOWS ABOUT THE PROBLEM OF UNDERSIZING THE BRAKES, BUT ISN'T DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT. SOME MIGHT ARGUE DUE TO POOR SALES FROM 2009, BUT I BELIEVE IT WOULD MEAN A LARGE RECALL AND COST TO THE COMPANY, WHICH IS NOW OWNED BY THE GOVERNMENT. THE REASON THEY WERE REPLACED WITH AFTERMARKET PADS IS BECAUSE AT 18,000 MILES WHEN THE PADS WORE OUT, I TOOK IT TO A CHRYSLER DEALER AND THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT AND THAT IT WAS NORMAL WEAR. I TOOK IT BACK IN ON 10/9/09 WITH THE SAME ISSUE, ONLY THIS TIME THERE WAS A VERY STRONG ODOR COMING FROM THE REAR PASSENGER TIRE. AGAIN, I WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE BRAKES AND THE BRAKES AND ROTORS WERE WEARING EVENLY AND THE CALIPERS ARE WORKING PROPERLY. ON 1/14/10 I WAS DRIVING AND THE NOISE WAS SO LOUD, I DROVE IT RIGHT TO THE DEALER WHO HAD A MECHANIC RIDE WITH ME. HE CONFIRMED THAT IT WAS THE BRAKES AND THOUGHT IT WAS THE CALIPERS LOCKING UP. ONCE HE LOOKED AT THE BRAKES HE TOLD ME THAT I NEEDED NEW PADS AND ROTORS AT 24000 MILES!! I ASKED ABOUT THE CALIPERS AND THEY DID SAY THEY WOULD GREASE THOSE FOR ME AT NO CHARGE TO SEE IF IT WOULD HELP, BUT THEY AGAIN STATED TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM I WOULD NEED NEW PADS AND ROTORS. I HAVE NEVER OWNED A VEHICLE THAT NEEDED NEW REAR PADS AND ROTORS ON A VEHICLE WITH LESS THAN 50,000 MILES! I CALLED CHRYSLER AND PUT IN A COMPLAINT AND WAS JUST TOLD TODAY THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO, THE BRAKES ARE A WEAR AND TEAR ITEM AND IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. I OWN A CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY 2008, AFTER 20,800 MILES THE FRONT BRAKE SYSTEM HAD TO BE REPLACED, INCLUDING DISCS AND PADS, AND THE REAR HAD TO BE RESURFACED. I COMPLAIN TO THE DEALERSHIP, BAKERSFIELD CHRYSLER. THEY SAID IT WAS WEAR AND TEAR, BUT I ARGUED THAT THERE WAS SOMETHING WRONG IF THEY HAD TO BE REPLACED SO FAST FOR NO REASON. THE AGREED AFTER MUCH ARGUING TO COVER HALF THE COST OF THE TOTAL REPAIRS ($800). THEN, 2 MONTHS LATER , 8/17/09, I START HEARING A NOISE COMING FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE CAR AROUND WHERE THE EXHAUST IS LOCATED. I TAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY TELL ME THAT THE EXHAUST IS HANGING DUE TO STRUCTURAL FAILURE OF THE MAIN BRACKET HOLDING THE EXHAUST. A COUPLE MORE DAYS IN THE SHOP AT THE DEALER TILL THE VEHICLE IS REPAIRED. I EXPRESSED MY CONCERN ABOUT SUCH A NEW CAR WITH HARDLY ANY MILES ON IT AND HAVING SO MANY PROBLEMS, THE DEALERSHIP BLEW ME OFF. NOW, AROUND 10/9/09 AND 30000 MILES, I HEAR THE BRAKES STARTING TO MAKE A LITTLE NOISE AGAIN, THEY TELL ME THEY NEED TO REPLACE THE FRONT PADS AND DISCS AND RESURFACE OR REPLACE THE REAR BRAKES AGAIN. EVIDENTLY THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE AS I'VE FOUND IN TALKING WITH ANOTHER T&C OWNER THAT BOUGHT THE SAME MINIVAN AT ABOUT THE SAME TIME WE DID (FALL 2009). HE BOUGHT THE EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR $2000 AND WAS ALERTED TO THIS DEFECT BY THE DEALER (TSB BECAUSE OF HIS EXTENDED WARRANTY) AND THE REPAIR WAS MADE FOR FREE AND NOW HE KNOWS TO CHECK THE BRAKES EVERY 12-20 THOUSAND MILES. UNFORTUNATELY WITHOUT PURCHASING THE $2000 EXTENDED WARRANTY OTHER CONSUMERS WILL NOT BE AWARE OF THE SHORT LIVED BRAKES AND ROTORS AND MAY NOT BOTHER GOING INTO THE DEALER TO GET THEIR BRAKES REPLACED EVERY 20,000 MILES (WHO WOULD THINK THAT YOU WOULD NEED TO REPLACE YOUR BRAKES AND ROTORS THIS FREQUENTLY!). PURCHASED A 2008 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY TOURING BRAND NEW IN MAY 2008. WITHIN THE FIRST 12,000 MILES WE'VE HAD MULTIPLE PROBLEMS WITH THIS VAN. AS FAR AS THE SAFETY PROBLEMS SPECIFICALLY, THE BRAKE SYSTEM HAS BEEN A NIGHTMARE. THE PARKING BRAKE CABLE SNAPPED IN TWO AND BECAME DANGEROUS WHEN I COULDN'T PARK ON A HILL WITHOUT IT. THIS WAS FIXED UNDER WARRANTY THROUGH THE DEALERSHIP. THE NEXT SAFETY RELATED ISSUE WAS THAT THE BRAKES ON THE VAN STARTED TO SQUEAL AND WERE QUICKLY METAL ON METAL. I BROUGHT THE VAN INTO OUR LOCAL TIRE PLACE TO HAVE A REGULAR BRAKE JOB DONE AND WAS TOLD THAT THE ROTORS AND PADS WERE COMPLETELY SHOT AND COST OVER $300 TO HAVE REPLACED. THE MANAGER SAID I WAS ONE OF 12 OTHER CUSTOMERS IN THE LAST FEW MONTHS WITH 2008 DODGE/CHRYSLER MINIVANS HAVING THIS PROBLEM. HE SAID THAT HE SPOKE WITH SOMEONE FROM CHRYSLER TO SEE ABOUT HAVING THIS REPAIR COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND SAID THAT THE PERSON AT CHRYSLER THAT HE SPOKE WITH CASUALLY MENTIONED THAT "OF COURSE THIS HAPPENED, THEY USED CHEAP PARTS" ON THESE VANS. I STILL HAVE THE ORIGINAL ROTORS AND PADS IF ANYONE NEEDS THEM FOR INVESTIGATION. AN ENTIRE CHUNK OF METAL HAD CHIPPED OFF OF ONE ROTOR!! THE TECH. AT THE REPAIR SHOP SAID THEY WERE THE CHEAPEST MADE THINGS THEY'VE SEEN ON A NEW VEHICLE. NO VEHICLE DRIVEN UNDER NORMAL, CARPOOLING CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD EVER HAVE ROTORS AND PADS WEAR OUT AT 12,000 MILES. JULY 2009 I TOOK THE CAR IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND CHECK UP BEFORE LEAVING TOWN FOR VACATION. BRAKES WERE SQUEAKING SO I ASKED TO HAVE THOSE CHECKED AS WELL. I DIDN'T EXPECT ANYTHING MUCH TO COME OF THE BRAKES SINCE THE CAR ONLY HAD ABOUT 12,000 MILES ON IT AT THE TIME. THEY SAID I HAD TO HAVE THE BRAKES DONE WHICH I DID. BRAKES STARTED SQUEAKING THE NEXT DAY WHILE ON THE TRIP AND THE CAR WOULD SHAKE WHEN BRAKING (NOT SUBTLY BUT ENOUGH TO SPILL DRINKS AND TO FEEL LIKE WE WERE RIDING A BUCKING BRONCO). CALLED THE DEALERSHIP WHO SAID IT WAS SAFE TO DRIVE UNTIL WE RETURNED TO TOWN AND COULD TAKE IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP. I TOOK THE CAR BACK IN IMMEDIATELY WHEN WE RETURNED AND HAD THE PROBLEM REPAIRED. THAT LASTED A FEW DAYS AND THE BRAKES STARTED TO SQUEAK AND THEN GRIND. THIS COMPLAINT INVOLVES A 2008 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY MINI VAN. THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO THE DEALER TO INSPECT BRAKE SYSTEM. MILEAGE WAS 27, 904. I WAS INFORMED THAT THE FRONT DISC PADS AND ROTORS NEEDED REPLACEMENT AND THE REAR BRAKES WERE IN GOOD SHAPE. THIS CONCERNED ME SINCE I HAVE NEVER HAD TO REPLACE THIS EARLY ON A NEW VEHICLE. MY PREVIOUS VEHICLE WAS A 2001 TOWN AND COUNTRY, WHICH WAS TRADED FOR THE 2008. THE 2001 HAD OVER 95,000 MILES AND I WAS TOLD AFTER INSPECTION OF THE BRAKES THAT THERE WAS APPROXIMATELY 25% OF THE PADS LEFT. I ALSO OWN A 1995 DODGE RAM PICKUP AND HAD THE PADS REPLACED AT 75,000 MILES AND STILL HAD PADS LEFT. I HAD THE PADS REPLACED ON THE 2008. LESS THAN 1,000 MILES LATER I HAD TO REPLACE THE REAR PADS AND ROTORS AFTER BEING TOLD THEY WERE OK. SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH THIS SCENERIO. BRAKES WERE INSPECTED BY AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AT 19,200 MILES DURING A ROUTINE TIRE ROTATION AND NO NOTIFICATION OF WORN BRAKE PADS WAS GIVEN. AT APPROXIMATELY 22,000 MILES WE BEGAN TO HEAR A LIGHT GRINDING IN THE FRONT RIGHT WHEEL DURING BRAKING. WE TOOK THE VEHICLE INTO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AT 23,600 MILES FOR INSPECTION OF THE GRINDING, WHICH HAD GOTTEN SIGNIFICANTLY WORSE. I WAS NOTIFIED THAT THE BRAKES WERE DOWN TO METAL ON METAL AND THE ROTORS WERE TOO FAR GONE TO RESURFACE. AUTHORIZED DEALER REPLACED THE ROTORS, BRAKE PADS, AND FLUSHED AND REPLACED THE BRAKE FLUID AT THE OWNER'S EXPENSE OF $575. RECOMMENDED WE WASH ANY BRAKE DUST OUT OF THE WHEELS TO SEE IF THAT RESOLVED THE PROBLEM. 8/5/09 - BROUGHT THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER AS THIS DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. IT WAS SQUEAKING AND MAKING A CRUNCHING SOUND WHEN BRAKING, LIKE METAL TO METAL. BELIEVE IT WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE - HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALER. VEHICLE HAD 22,009 MILES. WE WERE TOLD THE FRONT BRAKE PADS WERE AT 26.97 AND MINIMUM SPECS ARE 26.4. THE DEALER REPLACED THE FRONT BRAKE PADS AND FRONT ROTORS WERE TURNED. WE WERE TOLD THE ROTORS DID NOT NEED REPLACING AT THAT TIME. 8/25/09 - WE WERE STILL EXPERIENCING A PULSATION WHEN BRAKING. TOOK THE VEHICLE TO OUR PERSONAL MECHANIC. THEY REPLACED AND RESURFACED THE FRONT ROTORS THAT WERE WARPED. THE BRAKES FELT BETTER BUT WE STILL NOTICED AN UNUSUAL SHUDDERING AND HEARD A DEEP CREAKING SOUND AT THE TAIL END WHILE BRAKING. OUR PERSONAL MECHANIC ADVISED THE REAR PADS NEEDED REPLACING AND THE REAR ROTORS HAD 45% WEAR. FEARING WE WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE REAR ROTORS IN THE NEAR FUTURE, WE OPTED TO SAVE LABOR CHARGES LATER AND HAVE BOTH THE REAR PADS AND ROTORS REPLACED. THE BRAKES ARE PERFORMING WONDERFULLY NOW AND ARE VERY SMOOTH. WE FEEL THEY ARE SAFE. WE ARE CONCERNED THOUGH THAT WE WILL HAVE TO REPLACE PADS AND ROTORS EVERY 20,000 MILES AND BELIEVE THIS IS UNSAFE AND UNREASONABLE. THE 4TH SET OF PADS WERE REPLACED ON 7-9-09 WHEN THE VEHICLE HAD 39,525 MILES ON IT. AT THAT TIME THE FRONT PADS, FRONT ROTORS, REAR PADS AND REAR ROTORS HAD TO BE REPLACED. THIS WEEK I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER BECAUSE OF VIBRATION AND THEY ARE ADVISING THE ROTORS MUST BE REPLACED COSTING MORE THAN $700 TO REPAIR. I HAVE READ MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS FROM OTHER OWNERS WITH THE SAME ISSUE WITH THIS VEHICLE. EXCESSIVE FRONT BRAKE WEAR. THE FRONT BRAKES ARE WORN OUT, BOTH THE PADS AND ROTORS HAVE FAILED AT 17,000 MILES. IN CONTACTING CHRYSLER, I AM TOLD THAT THIS IS A KNOW ISSUE BUT THAT THEY ARE NOT WILLING TO DO ANYTHING TO FIX THIS PROBLEM UNTIL A RECALL IS MANDATED. I HAVE HAD THIS VEHICLE FOR 16 MONTHS AND DO WHAT I CALL NORMAL DRIVING AROUND TOWN AND HIGHWAY. I HAVE HAULED A TRAILER ONCE, FOR 80 MILES, OTHER THAN NOTHING OUT OF THE ORDINARY. THE BRAKES ARE IN MY OPINION NOT PROPERLY SIZED FOR THE CAR AND COULD CAUSE SERIOUS DAMAGE AS MOST PEOPLE WOULD NOT EXPECT BRAKE FAILURE AFTER SUCH A SHORT TIME PERIOD. *TR

BRAKE ROTORS WARPED -- 2008 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY LIMITED. WITH LESS THAN 6,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE, WHEN APPLYING NORMAL PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL TO STOP THE VEHICLE, THE PEDDLE WOULD PULSATE AND THE VEHICLE WOULD SHIMMY SLIGHTLY. I SURMISED AND IT WAS CONFIRMED THAT THE ROTORS WERE OUT OF ROUND (WARPING). THE DEALER REPLACED THE REAR ROTORS AND RESURFACED THE FRONT ROTORS. WITH SUCH LIMITED MILEAGE ON THE VEHICLE, I WOULD SUSPECT THE ROTORS ARE INADEQUATE FOR THIS VEHICLE. THE DEALER INDICATED THE REPLACEMENT OF THE REAR ROTORS WAS WITH NOT ONLY NEW ROTORS BUT WITH AN UPGRADED PART. I'M STILL CONCERNED THAT THE FRONT ROTORS MAY BE INADEQUATE. GENERALLY, WHEN YOU FEEL A SHIMMY IN THE BREAK PEDDLE AND STEERING WHEEL IT OCCURS DUE TO AN ISSUE IN THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. I'M GOING TO CONTINUE TO MONITOR THE STATUS OF THIS SITUATION AND IF IT OCCURS AGAIN, WILL REQUEST REPLACEMENT OF THE FRONT ROTORS. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS, THE BRAKE PEDAL EXTENDED TO THE FLOOR WITHOUT RESISTANCE WHEN IT WAS DEPRESSED. THE VEHICLE FAILED TO SLOW DOWN AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS AND THERE WAS A LOSS OF BRAKE LINE PRESSURE. IMMEDIATELY, THE DRIVER SWERVED AND MOUNTED THE VEHICLE ON THE CURBSIDE. THE VEHICLE CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP. IN ADDITION, THE ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED INTERMITTENTLY ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THERE WERE NO INJURIES, BUT THE FRONT BUMPER AND BOTH HEADLIGHT BULBS WERE DAMAGED. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE DRIVEN TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR INSPECTION, BUT THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 15,000. WE HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS SINCE WE BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE IN SEPTEMBER 2007. FIRST, THE DOORS REOPEN BY THEMSELVES - THAT TOOK 8 TRIPS TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT BEFORE IT WAS FINALLY FIXED IN MAY 2008. ANOTHER ISSUE THAT HAS NOT BEEN RESOLVED IS THAT THE STARTER STICKS WHEN YOU START THE VEHICLE. THIS IS AN OCCASIONAL PROBLEM AND DIFFICULT FOR THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT TO DUPLICATE. YESTERDAY, JUNE 8, THE VAN COMPLETELY LOST POWER WHILE I WAS DRIVING. I LOST ALL POWER STEERING, BRAKES, LIGHTS - EVERYTHING! I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY CAN'T FIGURE IT OUT AND DAIMLERCHRYSLER HAS NOT BEEN ANY HELP. IN FACT, WHEN I CALLED TO INQUIRE ABOUT A REPURCHASE OF THE VEHICLE - I ASKED 4 TIMES TO SPEAK TO A SUPERVISOR AND THEN THE AGENT HUNG UP ON ME WHEN I INSISTED THAT I SPEAK WITH A SUPERVISOR! I'M EXTREMELY WORRIED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THIS VEHICLE. I WILL NOT ALLOW MY CHILDREN TO RIDE IN THIS VEHICLE AGAIN. *TR
