At random times, the ignition will shut down while driving, causing the power steering and power brakes to lose function. The only way to correct this is to shift gear into neutral and restart the engine. This has occurred while driving in town and on the highway without any warning or warning lights on the dashboard. This could result in a crash and harm to passengers due to not having control over steering and brakes while the vehicle is in motion. This problem has occurred multiple times in the past year or so. The vehicle was taken to a mechanic who ran a diagnostic, but was unable to identify the issue and it would not replicate. I researched the vehicle symptoms, and found a recall from 2015 that related to the same issues (TSB# R03, WIN Modual FOBIK replacement). All additional keys and keychain/FOB were removed from the ignition key to see if this would help. Since the issue was still happening, it was then taken to a Chrysler dealership, where again the diagnostics did not reveal the issue and they were unable to replicate the problem. Multiple attempts made to discuss this issue with Chrysler without any assistance in finding a solution thus far. This vehicle is normally driven daily as a family car and regularly transports children. This is a huge safety concern and issue that needs to be addressed and fixed, as the vehicle is unsafe to drive at this point and the potential liability is great.
Going about 30 mph with NO WARNING, The traction control light came on it beeped and the car stalled the power steering died as did the brakes. I tried to stop the car and the ABS kicked in but not fully. I was able to yank the steering wheel enough to round a corner avoid another vehicle and get to a safe place to stop. I restarted the car and it was as if nothing occurred. I believe there is a serious flaw in the computer system and an upgrade is needed!!! I used and OBD II reader and there were no codes that came up. The car only has 89,000 miles on it. This is a serious safety concern. If I had stalled on a highway on a curve, with no real way to stop it or steer it in time with out serious struggle, the outcome could have endangered not only myself and those in my car but other motorists!! Looking online I’m terrified to even drive this vehicle… apparently this is happening a lot with this model. (HOW!!!???) Someone really needs to look at this problem!
Van will suddenly shut engine down resulting in loss of brakes, power steering and all other systems. Van must need to be restarted by turning key off and back to run position. Seems to happen at lower speeds and is an intermittent issue that can’t be duplicated on command. Is becoming more frequent. (3 times in 2 days most recently) Will stall in the middle of the road and unable to safely move over. Tractions control light will turn on.
Engine stops while driving. Has happened multiple times and is extremely dangerous. Have been told it is a bad TIPM which was recalled on other models, but not mine????
I was driving about 30 mph when I couldn’t accelerate or brake. The power steering also went out. I saw the traction light on. As I tried to move to the shoulder, I almost got hit. I turned the van off and then restarted it. When it started back up, no lights were on. This has done this to me every time I’ve driven it in the past 2 weeks. It is a big safety issue. I’m scared to drive it. I just recently had the fuel injector and spark plugs replaced. This did not fix the issue.
WHEN DRIVING, THE VEHICLE WOULD SHUT OFF , STEERING WHEEL BECAME STIFF AND BRAKES WOULD NOT WORK, AS IF IT LOST ALL POWER. THERE WOULD BE ABS AND 'SLIPPERY' SYMBOL ON THE DASH BOARD. IT WOULD HAPPEN DURING TURNING TOO AND SINCE THE STEERING WHEEL WAS STIFF, I WAS NOT ABLE TO TURN IT BACK STRAIGHT AND HAD TO STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. THIS VEHICLE STALLING HAPPENED A FEW TIMES AND KEPT GETTING MORE FREQUENT. I TOOK IT TO DEALER FEW TIMES. THEY FOUND CODE C121C STORED IN ABS MODULE ONCE, BUT COULD NOT IDENTIFY THE PROBLEM. I READ UP ONLINE THAT OTHER PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM AND ARE REPLACING THE EGR VALVE. I ASKED DEALER TO REPLACE THAT EVEN THOUGH THEY DID NOT THINK THAT WAS THE PROBLEM. EVER SINCE THEY REPLACE THE EGR VALVE, IT HAS BEEN RUNNING OKAY. ITS SURPRISING THAT CHRYSLER DEALER DID NOT KNOW OF THIS KNOW ISSUE. BUT IT IS DEFINITELY NOT SAFE SINCE THE VEHICLE STALLS ANYTIME WITHOUT NOTICE AND YOU CANNOT EVEN CONTROL THE STEERING WHEEL OR BRAKES.

I HAVE 2 LITTLE KIDS AND IT IS TERRIFYING WHEN I'VE LOST COMPLETE CONTROL OF MY VEHICLE, AND I NEED TO TRY AND MOVE OFF THE ROAD OR TRY AND RESTART IT AT AN INTERSECTION WITH TRAFFIC ALL AROUND ME. THERE IS NO PATTERN TO THE SHUT DOWN, IT JUST HAPPENS SPORADICALLY. I'VE BEEN READING, AND IT SEEMS THAT THERE ARE A TON OF COMPLAINTS OF THE SAME THING HAPPENS TO OTHER PEOPLE! TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING DOWN AN INCLINE AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE VIBRATED WHILE DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL. THERE WAS NO WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT HAD TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE SAME INDEPENDENT MECHANIC ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS AND HAD THE BRAKES AND ROTORS REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE BUT OFFERED NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 94,000.

MY WIFE WAS DRIVING OUR 2010 TOWN AND COUNTRY ON 10/12/2020 WHEN THE VAN SUDDENLY DIED AND AS A RESULT LOSS OF POWER STEERING AND BRAKES. SHE WAS ABLE TO PUT VAN IN NEUTRAL, RESTART THE VAN, AND REGAIN POWER STEERING AND BRAKES. THIS IS THE SIXTH OR SEVENTH TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED SO SHE KNOWS THIS IS A POSSIBILITY AND IS PREPARED BUT THIS RIDICULOUS TO HAVE SO MANY DOCUMENTED INSTANCES AND STILL NO RECALL. VAN HAS APPROXIMATELY 125,000 MILES.

I WAS DRIVING STRAIGHT AT 40-45MPH ON A SLIGHTLY HILLY, TWO LANE ROAD WITH NO CURBS. THE WEATHER WAS CLEAR, TRAFFIC WAS MODERATE. WITH NO WARNING, ALL DRIVING POWER WENT OFF AND I COULDN'T STEER OR BRAKE. I COULD STILL PUT THE HAZARD LIGHTS ON. I HAD TO WAIT FOR THE VAN TO COAST TO A STOP. THEN I TURNED THE KEY TO ON AND THE VEHICLE STARTED BACK UP. THANKFULLY, I DIDN'T GET HIT OR DRIVE INTO A DITCH. I HAD A VAN FULL OF KIDS AND WAS SO SCARED.

ON WEDNESDAY 2/19/20, THE ENGINE SHUT OFF SUDDENLY WHILE DRIVING. THE STEERING AND BRAKES WERE OPERATING WITHOUT POWER ASSIST AND THE CAR WAS DIFFICULT TO STOP. THIS HAPPENED AT SLOW SPEED WHILE TURNING INTO A PARKING LOT SO THE CAR WAS ABLE TO BE STOPPED. THE CAR WAS PUT INTO PARK AND RESTARTED. IT OPERATED FINE IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE INCIDENT.
WHILE DRIVING, ENGINE TURNS OFF RANDOMLY AND RENDERS THE POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES TO LOSE THEIR FUNCTION AS WELL. THIS HAS MADE DRIVING THE VEHICLE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS BECAUSE IT HAPPENS RANDOMLY AND WITHOUT WARNING AND HAS CAUSED SOME CLOSE CALLS ON THE ROAD, WHICH IS WHAT PROMPTED ME TO DISCONTINUE DRIVING THE VAN AND TAKING IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. THERE ARE NO OPEN RECALLS FOR MY VEHICLE, HOWEVER, SAFETY RECALL R03 DESCRIBES EXACTLY WHAT IS HAPPENING TO MY VAN AND INCLUDES VEHICLES IN MODEL YEAR 2010.

COMING TO A STOP OR SLOWING DOWN OR EVEN CRUISING AT EVEN 40 MPH, THE RPM'S WILL DROP TO ZERO WITHOUT WARNING AND THE ENGINE WILL SHUT OFF. SOMETIME THIS WILL BE PRECEDED BY A JERKING MOTION IN THE CAR. IF WE PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL WE CAN IMMEDIATELY RESTART THE ENGINE. WE HAVE NEVER YET HAD THESE IGNITION PROBLEMS OCCUR ON THE HIGHWAY. ALSO, OUR IGNITION KEY FOB HAS MANY TIMES MYSTERIOUSLY TURNED OUR CAR ON OR OFF, HAS CAUSED THE ALARM TO COME ON, HAS LOCKED AND UNLOCKED OUR CAR, AND HAS EVEN OPENED OUR WINDOWS PART WAY WHEN WE ARE APPROACHING OUR VAN. THESE THINGS HAVE BEEN OCCURRING FOR ABOUT 4 YEARS. WE HAVE HAD A CHRYSLER DEALER SERVICE DEPT. AND ANOTHER REPUTABLE MECHANIC BOTH UNSUCCESSFUL AT FINDING THE CAUSE OF THESE PROBLEMS.

I SIMPLY COASTED TO A STOP (NO TRAFFIC THANK GOODNESS) AND PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK, CLICKED THE KEY TO THE OFF POSITION, WAITING 15 SECONDS, STARTED VEHICLE AGAIN AND DROVE AWAY. IT HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES NOW.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT TIRE SHOP WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ROTORS AND BRAKE PADS FOR THE FRONT WHEELS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THIS WOULD BE THE FOURTH REPAIR FOR THE FRONT ROTORS AND PADS THIS YEAR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,000.

I OWN A 2010 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY AND FOR 3 MONTHS WE HAVE BEEN LIVING A NIGHTMARE. IT POWERS DOWN WHILE WE ARE DRIIVNG IT, WE LOSE STEERING AND BREAKS. IT HAS HAPPENED IN THE MIDDLE OF INTERSECTIONS, WITH CARS BEHIND US, ON HILLS AND COASTED BACKWARDS AND WITH MY CHILDREN IN THE VAN WITH ME. IT HAS SPENT 3 MONTHS IN AND OUT OF SEVERAL GARAGES. IT HAS HAD NUMEROUS PARTS REPLACED, SUCH AS THE BATTERY, ABS MODULE, AND THE PCM. EVEN AFTER ALL THESE PARTS WERE REPLACED AND WE HAVE SPENT QUITE A BIT OF MONEY TO HAVE THEM FIXED IT STILL DOENS'T RUN PROPERLY AND SHUTS DOWN WHILE YOU ARE DRIVING IT. IT IS SUCH A SAFETY CONCERN THAT WE WON'T ALLOW ARE CHILDREN TO RIDE IN IT. SO I OWN $10,000 ON A VAN THAT I CANT TAKE OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY BECAUSE IT ISN'T SAFE TO BE ON THE ROAD. I HAVE CONTACTED CHRYSLER WITH MY VIN NUMBER AND THEY SAY THERE ARE NO COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS VEHICLE CURRENTLY AND NO RECALLS THAT HAVEN'T BEEN SATISFIED. SO I HAVE A LOAN PAYMENT AND AN UNSAFE VEHICLE WITH NO RESOLUTION ANYWHERE IN SIGHT.

HAD TO TURN OFF & BACK ON AGAIN 11/17/18 TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT BRIEFLY ON 3) FOR THE PAST 6 MONTHS, THERE HAVE BEEN OCCASIONS WHERE MY CAR WOULD NOT START UNTIL LIKE THE 7 OR 10TH TURN OVER OF THE FOB. IF THIS HAPPENED ON A BUSY ROAD, SERIOUS INJURY WOULD HAVE OCCURRED TO THE PASSENGERS IN MY VEHICLE AND ANYONE ELSE I WOULD HAVE STRUCK DUE TO LOSS OF CONTROL.

A DAY OR TWO LATER IT BEGAN TO STALL AND TURNED OFF IN TRAFFIC. THE BATTERY HAS BEEN CHECKED AND IT IS FUNCTIONING - THE LOCAL MECHANIC PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND NO CODE WAS PRESENT. CURRENTLY IT HAD STALLED AND TURNED OFF SEVERAL TIMES - EXTREMELY STRESSFUL AND DANGEROUS.

AS THESE HAPPEN, YOU REALIZE THAT THEY WERE CAUSED BECAUSE THE ENGINE HAS JUST PERFORMED AN UNCOMMANDED (BY THE DRIVER) SHUTDOWN. UNFORTUNATELY, NONE OF THESE SYMPTOMS ARE NECESSARILY IMMEDIATELY OBVIOUS. FOR INSTANCE, WHEN TRAVELING STRAIGHT (NOT USING POWER STEERING), AT LOW SPEEDS (NOT ACCELERATING), THE FIRST INDICATION OF FAILURE IS THAT THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT HAS ILLUMINATED. THE FAR MORE CONCERNING ISSUE IS WHEN YOU REALIZE THAT THE ENGINE (AND SYSTEMS) HAS FAILED WHILE ATTEMPTING TO TURN THROUGH AN INTERSECTION. AFTER THE ENGINE FAILS IT WILL RESTART IMMEDIATELY. AGAIN TOOK TH VAN BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP, CONTACTED CHRYSLER CUSTOMER SERVICE WHICH MADE THE DEALERSHIP OWNER VERY IRATE. MY VAN WAS IN THE DEALERSHIP FROM 2/15 TO JUNE. THIS HAPPENED THE VERY NEXT DAY AS WELL. LUCKILY WE WERE NOT DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AS MY 3 CHILDREN IN THE VEHICLE. THIS COULD BE DEADLY IF DRIVING AT 60 MPH DOWN THE HIGHWAY.

THIS FAILURE RESULTS IN A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION AND IN MY OPINION, THE VEHICLE IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE BECAUSE OF THIS PRODUCT DEFECT. THE INCIDENT HAS OCCURRED AT LEAST 6 MORE TIMES SINCE THE FIRST OCCURRENCE. AGAIN, I REPEAT THAT THIS IS AN UNSAFE VEHICLE AND SOMEONE WILL GET SERIOUSLY INJURED AS A RESULT OF THIS DEFECT IF IT IS NOT REMEDIED ASAP. FRONT AND REAR DISC BRAKES SEEM TO BE UNDERSIZED FOR THE WEIGHT OF THE VEHICLE. HAVE REPLACED BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS MULTIPLE TIMES AND CAN'T GET MORE THAN APPROXIMATELY 10,000 MILES OUT OF THEM. EVEN NEW, ON RELATIVELY SHORT ROAD TRIPS, THE BRAKES GET EXTREMELY HOT AND START TO FADE AND CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO SHUDDER WHEN BRAKING. THE BRAKES GET SO HOT, THEY'VE DESTROYED THE CHROME CLADDING ON THE ALLOY WHEELS. CONTACTED CHRYSLER AND THEIR ONLY RECOMMENDATION WAS TO INSTALL "HIGH PERFORMANCE" BRAKE PADS. I HAVE TRIED DIFFERENT PADS TO NO AVAIL. I CURRENTLY HAVE VENTED, DRILLED AND SLOTTED ROTORS WHICH SEEMS TO HELP BUT STILL DOESN'T SOLVE THE PROBLEM. THE 2010 VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH 12" ROTORS WHILE THE NEWER VEHICLES OF THE SAME SIZE AND WEIGHT ARE EQUIPPED WITH 13" ROTORS. WHEN ASKED, CHRYSLER SAID THEY DID NOT HAVE A BRAKE RETROFIT FOR THE OLDER VANS TO INSTALL LARGER BRAKES.
IN JUNE 2013 MY ENGINE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. I LOST POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES. I WAS TRAVELING <10 MPH. I HAD ANOTHER INCIDENT LATER THAT SAME YEAR IN OCTOBER. THE INCIDENTS WERE SO RANDOM AND I THOUGHT PERHAPS I DIDN'T TURN THE KEY FOB ALL THE WAY AFTER STARTING THE VEHICLE VIA THE REMOTE START SYSTEM. AGAIN IN 2014 IT OCCURRED SEVERAL TIMES, SO I STARTED TRYING TO DETERMINE THE COMMON DENOMINATOR, BUT COULD FIND NONE. THE SERVICE STATION I BROUGHT IT TO COULDN'T DIAGNOSE OR REPAIR DUE TO THE INABILITY TO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. IN 2015, THE PROBLEM BECAME MORE FREQUENT AND TODAY I AM NOW EXPERIENCING THIS 2-3 TIMES PER DAY 3-4 TIMES PER WEEK AT SPEEDS TRAVELING UP TO 40 MPH. I BROUGHT IT TO MY LOCAL CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE AND AFTER HAVING MY VEHICLE FOR 5 DAYS THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE OR REPAIR DUE TO THE INABILITY TO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THEY SAID THE VEHICLE WILL NOT PASS INSPECTION WITH THE REAR LIKE THAT, I TOLD THEM THEY SHOULD USE BETTER PARTS, AND I WILL START USING ANOTHER DEALER, SO I DID. SINCE THEN CHRYSLER HAS ISSUED 2 RECALLS, ONE FOR THE FRONT ROTORS ONLY, AND A $100 DEDUCTIBLE, AND ANOTHER RECALL HAVING TO DO WITH THE FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS. SHORTLY AFTER A BRAND NEW 2010 TOWN & COUNTRY I STARTED TO GET SHAKING IN THE STEERING. THE SHAKING WOULD START WHEN I TRIED TO APPLY THE BRAKES. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID IT WAS NORMAL FOR MINIVANS AND THAT I MUST BE DRIVING ON HILLS. THEY SAID THE BRAKES WOULD NEED TO BE RESURFACED. THEY DIDN'T OFFER TO DO THAT AT THAT TIME AND SAID IT WAS MY PROBLEM. AFTER A FEW MORE MONTHS AND THE PROBLEM CONTINUALLY GETTING WORSE, I COULDN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE AND WAS READY TO PAY FOR NEW BRAKES. THE DEALERSHIP PROVIDED SOME SORT OF WARRANTY AND I HAD TO PAY A DEDUCTIBLE. THAT SOLVED THE PROBLEM FOR A TIME. AFTER ABOUT A YEAR, I STARTED GETTING SOME SHAKING ON MY TIRES. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THE BRAKES WERE WEARING DOWN AND THAT THEY WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED SOON. I WAS SURPRISED BECAUSE THE CAR WAS LESS THAN 2 YEARS OLD AND ONLY HAD ABOUT 20K IN MILEAGE. I DIDN'T GET ANY REPAIR AT THAT TIME. NOW IT'S BEEN ABOUT ANOTHER 6 MONTHS AND MY BRAKES ARE COMPLETELY SHOT. THE ROTORS HAVE BEEN WORN DOWN AND NEED TO BE REPLACED ALONG WITH THE PADS. THIS WILL BE THE SECOND SET IN JUST OVER 2 YEARS AND THE CAR HAS AROUND 40K IN MILES. I'M GOING TO PAY FOR THIS REPAIR AND FILE A CLAIM WITH CHRYSLER. WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE SEPTEMBER 2010. WITHIN FIRST YEAR SEPTEMBER 2011 THE ROTORS NEEDED BE REPLACED DUE TO WARPING. IN 2012 WITHIN A YEAR OF REPLACEMENT, ONE SET WAS REPLACE AND THE OTHER WAS MACHINED DUE TO WARPING. JUNE 2013, HAD TO HAVE BOTH SETS OF ROTORS REPLACED AGAIN DUE TO WARPING. THE ROTORS HAVE WORN OUT BEFORE THE BRAKE PADS. THE REASON WE WERE GIVEN WAS DUE TO EXCESSIVE HEAT. I LIVE IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA WHERE THE TEMPERATURE IS NOT EXCESSIVE. THERE IS NO EXPLANATION FOR THE WARPING OR WHAT IS CAUSING THE EXCESSIVE HEAT. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD BECAUSE THE BRAKING SYSTEM BECOME COMPROMISED WHEN THE ROTORS GET HOT, THE CAR STARTS TO SHAKE EVERY TIME YOU APPLY THE BRAKES. CHRYSLERS IS NOT ADDRESSING THIS ISSUE. THE VEHICLE HAS LOCKED THREE ADDITIONAL TIMES (SINCE THE LAST ATTEMPTED REPAIR) AND BOTH THE DEALERSHIP (WHO IS NOW REFUSING TO SERVICE THE VEHICLE) AND CORPORATE (WHO HAVE NOT RETURNED CALLS OR EMAILS) HAVE BEEN NOTIFIED. AFTER CONDUCTING AN INTERNET SEARCH I SEE THAT THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED ISSUE--IT HAS BEEN REPORTED MULTIPLE TIMES TO THE NHTSA AS WELL AS ON OTHER WEBSITES. THIS IS A DANGEROUS AND DEFECTIVE VEHICLE. A FEW MONTHS AGO A SQUEAKING NOISE BEGAN ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. AT THE END OF MARCH I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEARLERSHIP TO HAVE THE SQUEAK LOOKED AT AS WELL AS HAVE THE FRONT BRAKES AND ROTORS REPLACED (AT THE TIME THE VEHICLES MILEAGE WAS 22,160). SERVICE ADVISOR REPORTED THAT THE SQUEAKING WAS LIKELY THE RESULT OF THE REAR BRAKES AND WAS NOT UNCOMMON. THE SQUEAK HAS CONTINUED. SET UP ANOTHER APPOINTMENT FOR MAY 17TH TO HAVE THE VEHICLE INSPECTED AGAIN. SERVICE ADVISOR ADVISED THAT THE SQUEAKING ISSUE IS INDEED STILL THE REAR BRAKES, THEY ARE NOT BAD AND THE PADS ARE HALF GONE BUT DOES NOT RECOMMEND THAT THEY NEED TO BE REPLACED AT THIS TIME. AS OF JUNE 19TH, THE SQUEAK CONTINUES AND AT TIMES GET'S WORSE. WHAT I DON'T UNDERSTAND IS WHY THE BRAKES SQUEAK WHEN I AM NOT EVEN PRESSING ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. CHRYSLER REPLACED THE FRONT BRAKES, WHY ARE THEY NOT REPLACING THE REAR BRAKES WHICH OBVIOUSLY HAD MORE WEAR AND TEAR DUE TO THE FRONT BRAKE ISSUE THEY DID ADDRESS. SO WHY IS THIS HAPPENING TO OUR VAN? THERE IS A PROBLEM BUT CHRYSLER WON'T ADMIT IT IS USING CHEAP PARTS. DOES IT ONLY CONCERN THEM WHEN THERE IS AN INJURY OR DEATH?
