At random times, the ignition will shut down while driving, causing the power steering and power brakes to lose function. The only way to correct this is to shift gear into neutral and restart the engine. This has occurred while driving in town and on the highway without any warning or warning lights on the dashboard. This could result in a crash and harm to passengers due to not having control over steering and brakes while the vehicle is in motion. This problem has occurred multiple times in the past year or so. The vehicle was taken to a mechanic who ran a diagnostic, but was unable to identify the issue and it would not replicate. I researched the vehicle symptoms, and found a recall from 2015 that related to the same issues (TSB# R03, WIN Modual FOBIK replacement). All additional keys and keychain/FOB were removed from the ignition key to see if this would help. Since the issue was still happening, it was then taken to a Chrysler dealership, where again the diagnostics did not reveal the issue and they were unable to replicate the problem. Multiple attempts made to discuss this issue with Chrysler without any assistance in finding a solution thus far. This vehicle is normally driven daily as a family car and regularly transports children. This is a huge safety concern and issue that needs to be addressed and fixed, as the vehicle is unsafe to drive at this point and the potential liability is great.
For the past several years we have tried to get power to examine the conditio. To no avail. Several times a week when we are driving the car will shut off and we lose power steering, the van turns off and we have to switch it into park to continue. Some day it happens several times. It seems like it is an occurance happening in other cars. ( see NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID: 14V373000. & 11V139000 ). I am worried bc it has almost led to several wrecks:.. it effects electrical. The ignition. Power steering and more. Also the air conditioner/ coolest has stopped working. We have to have tried multiple solutions with no avail… please help! And let me know if I can help With anything!
While driving the whole car stopped working, everything just died. Power steering, gas, power brakes, everything. I was able to, thankfully, get to the side of the HIGHWAY, and put the car into park. I gave the car a few minutes, then it started back up again. This is not the first time this has happened, just the first time on a highway. I've taken my van to a dealership before and they can't "reproduce" the problem so they don't fix anything. Meanwhile, my life and the life of my family are in danger because I don't know if my van is going to shut down while I'm driving. There was no warning it was going to happen, the steering just goes out and you have no power.
The contact owns a 2010 Chrysler Town and Country. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V396000 (Air Bags, Steering) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The dealer was made aware of the issue and confirmed that parts were not yet available. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect. The contact stated that the issue was eventually fixed.
Going about 30 mph with NO WARNING, The traction control light came on it beeped and the car stalled the power steering died as did the brakes. I tried to stop the car and the ABS kicked in but not fully. I was able to yank the steering wheel enough to round a corner avoid another vehicle and get to a safe place to stop. I restarted the car and it was as if nothing occurred. I believe there is a serious flaw in the computer system and an upgrade is needed!!! I used and OBD II reader and there were no codes that came up. The car only has 89,000 miles on it. This is a serious safety concern. If I had stalled on a highway on a curve, with no real way to stop it or steer it in time with out serious struggle, the outcome could have endangered not only myself and those in my car but other motorists!! Looking online I’m terrified to even drive this vehicle… apparently this is happening a lot with this model. (HOW!!!???) Someone really needs to look at this problem!
Engine stops while driving. Has happened multiple times and is extremely dangerous. Have been told it is a bad TIPM which was recalled on other models, but not mine????
I was driving about 30 mph when I couldn’t accelerate or brake. The power steering also went out. I saw the traction light on. As I tried to move to the shoulder, I almost got hit. I turned the van off and then restarted it. When it started back up, no lights were on. This has done this to me every time I’ve driven it in the past 2 weeks. It is a big safety issue. I’m scared to drive it. I just recently had the fuel injector and spark plugs replaced. This did not fix the issue.
AS I DRIVE DOWN THE STREET AND HIT A BUMP OR UNEVEN SURFACE THE VAN SHUTS OFF AND I LOSE ALL STEERING POWER AND ELECTRICAL POWER. THIS IS VERY FRIGHTENING BECAUSE IT COULD HAPPEN IN THE MIDDLE OF A STREET OR FREEWAY GOING 60+ MILES PER HOUR.

WHEN DRIVING, THE VEHICLE WOULD SHUT OFF , STEERING WHEEL BECAME STIFF AND BRAKES WOULD NOT WORK, AS IF IT LOST ALL POWER. THERE WOULD BE ABS AND 'SLIPPERY' SYMBOL ON THE DASH BOARD. IT WOULD HAPPEN DURING TURNING TOO AND SINCE THE STEERING WHEEL WAS STIFF, I WAS NOT ABLE TO TURN IT BACK STRAIGHT AND HAD TO STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. THIS VEHICLE STALLING HAPPENED A FEW TIMES AND KEPT GETTING MORE FREQUENT. I TOOK IT TO DEALER FEW TIMES. THEY FOUND CODE C121C STORED IN ABS MODULE ONCE, BUT COULD NOT IDENTIFY THE PROBLEM. I READ UP ONLINE THAT OTHER PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM AND ARE REPLACING THE EGR VALVE. I ASKED DEALER TO REPLACE THAT EVEN THOUGH THEY DID NOT THINK THAT WAS THE PROBLEM. EVER SINCE THEY REPLACE THE EGR VALVE, IT HAS BEEN RUNNING OKAY. ITS SURPRISING THAT CHRYSLER DEALER DID NOT KNOW OF THIS KNOW ISSUE. BUT IT IS DEFINITELY NOT SAFE SINCE THE VEHICLE STALLS ANYTIME WITHOUT NOTICE AND YOU CANNOT EVEN CONTROL THE STEERING WHEEL OR BRAKES.

I WAS DRIVING STRAIGHT AT 40-45MPH ON A SLIGHTLY HILLY, TWO LANE ROAD WITH NO CURBS. THE WEATHER WAS CLEAR, TRAFFIC WAS MODERATE. WITH NO WARNING, ALL DRIVING POWER WENT OFF AND I COULDN'T STEER OR BRAKE. I COULD STILL PUT THE HAZARD LIGHTS ON. I HAD TO WAIT FOR THE VAN TO COAST TO A STOP. THE CAR HAS TO BE RESTARTED. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND SHOULD BE A RECALL AS SO MANY OTHERS HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME THING.

THIS HAPPENED AT SLOW SPEED WHILE TURNING INTO A PARKING LOT SO THE CAR WAS ABLE TO BE STOPPED. THE CAR WAS PUT INTO PARK AND RESTARTED. IT OPERATED FINE IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE INCIDENT.

I HAVE RECEIPTS SHOWING PURCHASE FOR THE REPAIR. THIS SHOULD BE COVERED. MY FAMILY WAS IN DANGER EVERY TIME WE DROVE AND CHRYSLER REFUSED TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT!!!! THE DEALERSHIP IT WAS TAKEN TO ONLY PROVIDED A FAILING EGR VALVE AS A DIAGNOSIS WITH AN ESTIMATE OF OVER $700. HOWEVER, RESEARCH DID NOT INDICATE THAT WOULD RESOLVE THE SUDDEN SHUT-OFF. I TOOK IT TO A PRIVATE GARAGE AFTER NOTICING THE ENGINE TENDED TO SHUT DOWN WHEN THE KEYS SEEMS TO BE TOUCHED. I WAS ABLE TO REPLICATE THE ISSUE REINFORCING MY ASSUMPTION. THE SHOP REPLACED THE IGNITION MODULE (AS HAS BEEN RECALLED WITH OTHER TOWN AND COUNTRY VEHICLES) AND I HAVE NOT HAD A SINGLE ISSUE. THE FAILING IGNITION MODULE HAS BEEN AN ISSUE IN THOUSANDS OF VEHICLE AND THIS SHOULD BE INCLUDED.

OUR 2010 CHRYSLER T&C STATED TO HAVE ENGINE STALL PROBLEMS SINCE TWO YEARS AGO. BASICALLY THE ENGINE JUST STOPPED WHEN DRIVING (THE RPM DROPS TO 0). THE DRIVER WILL FEEL THE STEERING WHEEL GETS HEAVY AND THE TRACTION WARNING LIGHT COMES ON. WE DID THE CHRYSLER R03 SAFETY RECALL REPAIR (I..E REPLACE THE WIN MODULE) BUT IT DOES NOT HELP AT ALL. ESPECIALLY PRONE TO STALL IN THE FIRST 20 MINUTES OF DRIVING WHEN TEMPS WAS LOW, AND ESPECIALLY WHEN HUMID. WE HAVE HAD IT CHECKED BY MULTIPLE MECHANIC SHOPS BUT NO CLUE WAS FOUND. MULTIPLE PARTS HAVE BEEN REPLACED (CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR, CAMSHAFT SENSOR, AND EGR VALVE) BUT NOTHING WORKED. NOW FOR EVERY DRIVING WE EXPECT AT LEAST 2-3 ENGINE STALLS ON THE ROAD. THE STALLING TYPICALLY HAPPENS AT LOW SPEEDS ' LESS THAN 35 MPH. IT HAS STALLED ONCE IN A 40 MPH ZONE, BUT MORE OFTEN THAN NOT IT HAPPENS ON A RESIDENTIAL STREET WITH A SPEED LIMIT OF 25 MPH OR LESS. AS THE VEHICLE STALLS, THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT FLASHES AND THE POWER STEERING GOES OUT. THE CAR BECOMES UNMANAGEABLE, AND THE ONLY OPTION FOR THE DRIVER IS TO ATTEMPT TO PULL OVER, COME TO A COMPLETE STOP, PLACE THE VEHICLE IN PARK, AND RESTART. WE HAVE TAKEN THE CAR INTO THE DEALERSHIP A FEW TIMES AND ONCE TO AN AUTO REPAIR BUSINESS UNAFFILIATED WITH CHRYSLER. NONE OF THE TECHNICIANS WHO HAVE SEEN THE CAR CAN DIAGNOSE THE ISSUE. THEY HAVE TRIED TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM, BUT THE REPAIRS THAT WERE MADE WERE ONLY GUESSES AND DID NOT FIX THE VEHICLE. WE HAVE ANOTHER APPOINTMENT WITH CHARLIE'S ON AUGUST 1. VAN WAS RETURNED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY CLAIMED TO REPAIR /INSTALL NEW GAS PUMP, EGR VALVE, GASKETS, CRANK SENSORS ETC. I RECEIVED MY VAN BACK ON 4/2 CLAIMING EVERYTHING WAS REPAIRED. THE VAN WAS NO LONGER STALLING. ON 4/3 WHILE DRIVING ON THE PARKWAY, IN HEAVY TRAFFIC MY BRAKES, STEERING WHEEL LOCKED AND VAN SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING. JUST MISSED GOING OVER THE GUARD RAIL. AGAIN TOOK TH VAN BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP, CONTACTED CHRYSLER CUSTOMER SERVICE WHICH MADE THE DEALERSHIP OWNER VERY IRATE. MY VAN WAS IN THE DEALERSHIP FROM 2/15 TO JUNE. I GOT THE RUN AROUND ABOUT WE ARE DOING EVERYTHING TO REPAIR YOUR VEHICLE. GUESS WHAT, IT IS STILL NOT REPAIRED THE VAN CONTINUOUSLY STALL ANYTIME YOU MADE A HARD TURN. IT WAS AT THE POINT OF NO RETURN. THE LONGER THE DEALERSHIP HAD IT THE WORSE THE VAN GOT. MEANWHILE ALL OF THIS EXTRA STRESS IS STARTING TO AFFECT MY HEALTH. I PAID FOR A $42,000 VAN AND EVEN CHRYSLER HAS NO IDEA OF HOW TO FIX IT. I GOT FED UP IN JUNE AND ASKED TO HAVE THE VAN RETURNED BACK TO ME. AFTER MORE THAN 3 MONTHS THEY WERE EVER SO HAPPY TO RETURN THE VEHICLE BACK TO ME. AS OF NOW I STILL DON'T HAVE ALL THE RECEIPTS OF EXACTLY WHAT WAS DONE TO THE VAN. ALL I KNOW IS THAT I WOULD NEVER BUY ANOTHER CHRYSLER AGAIN BECAUSE OF THE TREATMENT RECEIVED AND THEIR UNCARING ATTITUDE ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE ENDED UP STOPPING ON A HILL BUT, WITHOUT THE BRAKES IT STARTED TO DRIFT BACKWARDS. AT THIS POINT THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS PUSHED TO GET THE VEHICLE TO STOP. THIS HAPPENED THE VERY NEXT DAY AS WELL. LUCKILY WE WERE NOT DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AS MY 3 CHILDREN IN THE VEHICLE. THIS COULD BE DEADLY IF DRIVING AT 60 MPH DOWN THE HIGHWAY.

WE HAD JUST FILLED UP THE GAS TANK AND WE'RE READY TO GET ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN THE RADIO SHUT OFF. IT CAME BACK ON AFTER 2 MINUTES WITHOUT ANY INTERFERENCE. THIS ALARMED US AS LATELY WE HAVE HAD A HARD TIME STARTING THE CAR AND ALSO THE STEERING WHEEL GOES RIGID SOMETIMES AND THE CAR STOPS. OUR DEALER HAS CHECKED AND TELLS US THERE IS NO PROBLEM.

THIS FAILURE RESULTS IN A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION AND IN MY OPINION, THE VEHICLE IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE BECAUSE OF THIS PRODUCT DEFECT. AGAIN, I REPEAT THAT THIS IS AN UNSAFE VEHICLE AND SOMEONE WILL GET SERIOUSLY INJURED AS A RESULT OF THIS DEFECT IF IT IS NOT REMEDIED ASAP. IN 2015, THE PROBLEM BECAME MORE FREQUENT AND TODAY I AM NOW EXPERIENCING THIS 2-3 TIMES PER DAY 3-4 TIMES PER WEEK AT SPEEDS TRAVELING UP TO 40 MPH. THEN YESTERDAY, JUNE 2015, I WAS DRIVING TO WORK AND MY STEERING TOTALLY LOCKED UP. I COULD NOT STEER AT ALL. FORTUNATELY, I WAS ONLY 25 YARDS FROM A STOP SIGN. THEY HAVE HAD IT FOR TWO DAYS AND AGAIN CANNOT DUPLICATE WHAT I EXPERIENCED, SO THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. BUT SINCE THE IGNITION SWITCH RECALL AND THE REPLACEMENT BEING INSTALLED I HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS, MY $250 KEY HAD JAMMED AND IT TAKES MULTIPLE TIMES OF STARTING AND RE-STARTING THE VAN TO GET IT OUT. YESTERDAY WAS MY BREAKING POINT, HAD I BEEN ON THE INTERSTATE WHICH IS HOW I USUALLY MOVE ABOUT THE CITY IT COULD HAVE BEEN DEVASTATING. FORTUNATELY I HAVE A EXTENDED WARRANTY PLAN AND THE DEALER WILL FIX THE ISSUE FOR $100, BUT IT DOESN'T FIX THE FACT THAT I HAVE A BROKEN KEY AND IGNITION SWITCH THAT SOMETHING IS OBVIOUSLY WRONG WITH IT. WE WERE TOLD DIFFERENT OPINIONS AS TO WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. I CLEARLY STATED THAT THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. THE 3 MOVING STALLS WERE ALL WITH MY WIFE DRIVING AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS, ONE WITH MY DAUGHTER. THE RADIO WAS WORKING, ALL OTHER DASH LIGHTING APPEARED NORMAL FOR A CAR IN OPERATION. I HAD BEEN DRIVING ABOUT 20 MINUTES, SO THE CAR WAS NOT "COLD". THE FIRST TIME, I DID NOT EVEN REALIZE THE CAR HAD STALLED UNTIL I NOTICED IT WAS LOSING SPEED AND THEN FOUND THE CAR WAS NOT RESPONDING TO THE GAS PEDAL. I COASTED INTO THE RIGHT LANE AND TURNED ONTO A SIDE STREET (THAT'S WHEN I REALIZED I HAD NO POWER STEERING, NO BRAKES, AND THE CAR WAS TRULY STALLED). I CONTINUED COASTING TO A STOP. I THEN PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND ATTEMPTED TO RESTART IT. IT RESTARTED IMMEDIATELY, RUNNING SMOOTHLY, SO I CONTINUED ON MY WAY HOME WONDERING WHAT COULD HAVE CAUSED IT TO DIE LIKE THAT? LESS THAN A MILE LATER, IT STALLED AGAIN! THIS TIME I PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND WHILE CRUISING/COASTING TURNED THE IGNITION KEY TO START TO TRY AND RE-START THE CAR. I THEN PUT THE TRANSMISSION BACK INTO DRIVE TO SEE IF IT HAD RESTARTED, AND SURE ENOUGH I WAS ON MY WAY AGAIN. NO OTHER INDICATORS OF AN ISSUE ON THE DASH. IT HAS NOT HAPPENED SINCE. I WENT OUT ON AN ERRAND LATER THAT EVENING AND THE EPISODE DID NOT REPEAT. I AM QUITE NERVOUS TO TAKE IT ON THE INTERSTATE. MY GOSH! WHAT IF I HAD BEEN ON THE INTERSTATE (75 MPH SPEED LIMIT) TURNING A CURVE, NO POWER STEERING, SLOWING TO A COAST AND PANICKED AS TO WHAT WAS WRONG? I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT WITH A MECHANIC DAY AFTER TOMORROW, BUT UNLESS A CODE WAS THROWN INDICATING AN ERROR, IT SEEMS TO BE A SOMEWHAT ISOLATED EVENT, OR AT LEAST INTERMITTENT EVENT. THE VEHICLE APPEARS TO BE STALLING WHILE IN MOTION. THE STEERING WHEEL, BRAKES, AND GAS PEDAL ALL LOCK UP LEAVING THE DRIVER UNABLE TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE IN ANY WAY. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON AT LEAST 10 OCCASIONS. THE LOCAL CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP ATTEMPTED TO FIX THE VEHICLE, BUT WAS UNABLE. CORPORATE WAS NOTIFIED AND SENT OUT A CORPORATE MECHANIC WHO WAS ALSO UNABLE TO FIX THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE HAS LOCKED THREE ADDITIONAL TIMES (SINCE THE LAST ATTEMPTED REPAIR) AND BOTH THE DEALERSHIP (WHO IS NOW REFUSING TO SERVICE THE VEHICLE) AND CORPORATE (WHO HAVE NOT RETURNED CALLS OR EMAILS) HAVE BEEN NOTIFIED. AFTER CONDUCTING AN INTERNET SEARCH I SEE THAT THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED ISSUE--IT HAS BEEN REPORTED MULTIPLE TIMES TO THE NHTSA AS WELL AS ON OTHER WEBSITES. THIS IS A DANGEROUS AND DEFECTIVE VEHICLE. THIS HAD HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES SINCE WE BOUGHT THIS FROM THE DEALER. I WOULD BE DRIVING AND HAVE NO CONTROL OVER THE VAN , I HAD TO COME TO A STOP AND PUT IT IN PARK AND THEN START IT UP AGAIN.VERY DANGEROUS. THIS IS A RENTED VEHICLE FROM ADVANTAGE RENT A CAR PHX. MODEL IS 2010 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY VAN WITH AZ PLATE [XXX] (I DID NOT GET THE VIN). I WAS DRIVING ON A SURFACE STREET AT APPROXIMATELY 30-35 MPH WHEN THE VAN SUDDENLY LOST ALL POWER. THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WENT COMPLETELY DEAD (SPEEDOMETER DROPPED TO ZERO AND ALL GAUGES WENT DARK), THE RADIO WENT DEAD, AND POWER STEERING AND BRAKING WERE NON-FUNCTIONAL. I DID NOT ATTEMPT TO RESTART THE VEHICLE WHILE MOVING BECAUSE THE SHIFTER POSITIONS ARE UNMARKED AND THE GEAR INDICATOR ALONG WITH THE ENTIRE DASH PANEL WENT DARK. I WAS ABLE TO PULL THE VEHICLE ON COASTING POWER INTO A PARKING LOT WITH GREAT DIFFICULTY DUE TO THE LACK OF POWER STEERING AND BRAKING. ONCE I WAS SAFELY STOPPED. I PUT THE GEAR SHIFT BACK INTO PARK, REMOVED THE ELECTRONIC KEY FOB, REINSERTED IT AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE RETURNED BACK TO WORKING ORDER - THE ENGINE STARTED AND THE ALL DASH PANEL CONTROLS RETURNED TO NORMAL OPERATION. I CONSIDER THIS A VERY SERIOUS AND POTENTIALLY LIFE THREATENING SAFETY PROBLEM. IF THIS SAME THING HAD HAPPENED TO ME THE PRIOR EVENING WHEN I WAS DRIVING DOWN A STEEP WINDING MOUNTAIN ROAD AT 70 MPH AT NIGHT WITH NO ROAD LIGHTING, THE CONSEQUENCES COULD HAVE BEEN DEADLY SINCE I WOULD HAVE LOST ALL VEHICLE LIGHTING, INSTRUMENTATION, AND POWER CONTROLS. BECAUSE OF THE SUDDENNESS OF THE FAILURE, I SUSPECT THIS WAS AN ELECTRONIC FAILURE AND NOT A MECHANICAL FAILURE - AKIN TO YOUR COMPUTER CRASHING. HOWEVER, YOU COMPUTER DOES NOT CRASH WHILE YOU ARE GOING DOWN THE ROAD AT 70 MPH. PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS ADVANTAGE RENT A CAR AT PHX RENTAL TERMINAL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CALLED AND A REPRESENTATIVE ALSO INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND FOUND NO PROBLEM WITH THE ALIGNMENT. HE STATED THAT WAS THE WAY THE VEHICLE SHOULD BE DRIVEN.
