"P0740" OBD2 code, causing vehicle to Fail state Safety Inspection. issue is due to a defect within the transmission, very common with the 2011 Chrysler Town & Country. "Dealer Only Repair" , very costly. Serious Safety Issue. Vehicle cannot be diagnosed by most Certified Mechanics. this faulty reading could mask very serious issues with the Transmission. This issue needs to be expedited to review ASAP. Thank You.

WAITED INTO THE NIGHT FOR A TOW TRUCK TO TOW US TO A REPAIR SHOP. THE TRANSMISSION FAILURE IS A KNOWN ISSUE BUT NO RECALL ISSUED FROM CHRYSLER. STUCK WITH A $3,338.92 BILL FOR A NEW TRANSMISSION.

FUEL PUMP RELAY PREMATURELY FAILS INSIDE THE TOTAL INTEGRATED POWER MODULE (TIPM) CAUSING LOSS OF CONTROL WHILE DRIVING. THE FUEL RELAY FUSE IS NOT REPLACEABLE AS IT IS HARD WIRED INSIDE THE TIPM. THE ENTIRE TIPM UNNECESSARILY NEEDS REPLACED AT GREAT EXPENSE AND LABOR OF NEARLY $1,800 FOR WHAT SHOULD BE AN INEXPENSIVE FUSE. OTHER CHRYSLER/ DODGE/ JEEP VEHICLES HAVE BEEN RECALLED AND REPAIRED FOR THE SAME ISSUE, BUT NOT THE CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY MINIVANS. THE MANUFACTURER AND ITS DEALERSHIPS IS AVOIDING A RECALL SO THAT THIS MODEL 'AGES OUT' AND PERMANENTLY DISPOSED SO THAT IT DOESN'T HAVE TO DO A RECALL.

MY TODDLER CHILDREN AND I WERE STRANDED BECAUSE MY VAN COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN. I LEFT THE VEHICLE RUNNING TO RUN IN AND GET MY CHILDREN FROM DAYCARE, ONLY TO RETURN TO A VEHICLE THAT HAD NO ELECTRICITY. MY CHILDREN AND I WERE STUCK ALL EVENING, AWAY FROM HOME, WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS CHECK OUT AND EVENTUALLY TOWED. AFTER BEING TOWED, NOT ONLY ONCE BUT TWICE, AND BEING WITHOUT A VEHICLE SINCE 11/8/2019 WE FINALLY FIND OUT THE PROBLEM IS THE PCM, WHICH HAS BEEN AN ISSUE WITH THESE VANS. THIS IS MAJOR INCONVENIENCE FOR MY FAMILY. WITH THIS BEING A RE-OCCURRING ISSUE WITH THIS VEHICLE, CHRYSLER SHOULD BE TAKING CARE OF THIS ISSUE.

ALL THE TIMES THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED THE CAR WAS RUNNING. THE FIRST TIME ONLY HAPPENED WHEN GOING 65 OR 70 MILES PER HOUR ON THE HIGHWAY BUT NOW IT HAPPENS ON REGULAR ROADS WHEN TRAVELING 40 MPH. I DON'T KNOW IF THIS RELATED BUT EARLIER THIS YEAR, MY CAR WAS SENT TO BOB CALDWELL BECAUSE IT STALL/ STOP COMPLETELY WHILE BEING DRIVEN.... THE PROBLEM WITH THE RPM STARTED 3 MONTHS LATER AND JUST LAST MONTH IT WOULDN'T START. THEY SAID THE CHANGED THE GASKET THIS TIME BUT MY PROBLEM PERSIST.

VEHICLE HAS STARTED BY ITS SELF AND HAVE FOUND POWER DOORS OPEN WHEN I RETURNED TO MY VEHICLE. MY CURRENT MAIN PROBLEM IS THE ONGOING ISSUE OF HARD STARTS AND NOW PROBLEM HAS ESCALATED TO CRANK AND CRANK NO FIRE, HAVE TO ATTEMPT SEVERAL TIMES (20-30), VEHICLE THEN WILL EVENTUALLY FIRE RPM RACE TO 3-4000RPMS THEN STALL, AGAIN SEVERAL TIMES OF SHUTTING OFF AND ATTEMPTING TO START, EVENTUALLY IT STARTS SOMETIMES TAKING 30 MINUTES TO GET IT RUNNING. ALSO JUST TODAY WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE ATTEMPTED TO STALL RPMS DECREASE, THANKFULLY IT DID NOT STALL AS I WAS DRIVING WITH MY CHILDREN IN THE VEHICLE IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. DEFINITELY VERY CONCERNED AS THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AND AN INCONVENIENCE. NO LIGHTS CAME ON INDICATING THERE WAS NO POWER IT JUST STARTED SLOWING DOWN, SO I PULLED OVER WHICH WAS VERY HARD TO DO BECAUSE THE STEERING WHEEL WAS TIGHT AND THE BRAKES WERE TIGHT AS WELL. FINALLY GOT IT TO CRANK SO I COULD GET TO A SAFE PLACE OFF OF THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I HAD IT TOWED TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO STATED IT WAS FUEL PUMP BUT HE WANTED DEALERSHIP LOOK AT IT TO BE SURE THAT WAS THE ONLY THING. THEY TOWED IN ON 9/16/15. WAS NOT ABLE TO GET IT FIXED UNTIL 9/23/15, WHEN I HAD MY HUSBAND TAKE ME TO PICK IT UP. I DROVE IT ACROSS TOWN TO WORK, AT LUNCH WOULD NOT CRANK. THEY HAD TO TOW IT BACK TO DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY INFORMED ME THERE WAS A BAD CONNECTOR AND WAS FIXING THAT. AFTER FIXING THAT STILL WOULD NOT CRANK SO THEY HAVE BEEN GOING WIRE FOR WIRE TRYING TO FIND OUT THE PROBLEM BECAUSE THE TIPM IS ON NATIONAL BACKORDER SO UNABLE TO GET A NEW ONE FOR NOW. IT HAS BEEN 3 WEEKS WITHOUT MY VAN.

THE PROBLEM IS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE THE DRIVER MAY HAVE TO ACCELERATE MORE AGGRESSIVELY IN REVERSE IN ORDER TO MOVE THE VEHICLE (UNSAFE SPEED IN PARKING LOT OR WHEN BACKING ONTO A ROADWAY). AT THE TIME OF INCIDENT WAS DRIVING ON A FREEWAY WERE SOME VIBRATIONS WHEN I PRESSED THE BRAKES FROM 60-65 MPH. WHILE I EXIT AND TO CHECK OUT I FELT SOME PULSATION ON THE BRAKE PEDALS IN ABOUT 10-15 MPH. I BROUGHT THE MINIVAN AT THE DEALER AND THEY SAID FRONT ROTORS ARE WARPED AND BRAKE PADS ARE NOT USABLE. THEY REPLACED THE FRONT ROTORS AND THE PADS AS PART OF THEY EXTENDED WARRANTY. I THINK CHRYSLER KNEW THAT'S THERE'S ISSUE THAT'S WHY THEY EXTEND THE WARRANTY. THEY TESTED AND AFTER THAT THEY SAID THERE'S PULSATION AND FOUND OUT THAT MY REAR ROTORS WERE BAD AS WELL AND NEEDED MACHINING TO MY EXPENSE @$300 BECAUSE THE EXTENDED WARRANTY IS ONLY FOR FRONT BRAKES. AFTER ABOUT 4,000 MILES DURING THE REGULAR OIL THEY RECOMMENDED ME THAT ON NEXT VISIT I HAVE TO CHANGE MY REAR BRAKES AS WELL TO MY EXPENSE. I THINK THIS ISSUE HAS NOT BEEN FIXED. WE DRIVE AS NORMAL, WE DON'T DRAG BRAKES BUT WITHIN 15,000 MILES I THINK PREMATURE BRAKE WEAR ON BOTH SIDES IS NOT NORMAL. THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE ACCELERATING FROM A STOP, THE VEHICLE BEGAN SHAKING ABNORMALLY. ONCE THE VEHICLE ENGAGED INTO THIRD GEAR, THE SHAKING WOULD CEASE. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE DRIVEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE REPLICATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 33,060 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 43,000.

IN DRIVE, TRANSMISSION JERKS LIKE A FISH TUGGING ON A LINE AT LOW SPEEDS. IN REVERSE, TRANSMISSION PULSATES GREATLY WHEN BACKING UP AN INCLINED DRIVEWAY. NOT ALL THE TIME, BUT MORE AFTER IT IS RUN A WHILE. HAD VAN TO DEALER TWICE AND REFLASHED AND TESTED TRANSMISSION PUMP PRESSURE, SAID IT WAS NORMAL. COMPARED TO NEW VANS ON LOT, SAID ALL WERE THE SAME WAY. LATELY, SERVICE MGR SAID YOU ARE NOT THE FIRST TODAY WITH THIS COMPLAINT. MANY BLOGS REPORT USERS WITH THESE PROBLEMS. ONE SAID IT IS DUE TO THE SMALL TORQUE CONVERTER THAT CHRYSLER USED IN THIS FRONT WHEEL DRIVE DESIGN. JEEP FORUMS REPORT THE SAME PROBLEMS WITH MODELS USING THE 3.6 L V6. OUR NEW 2011 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY PURCHASED ON 1/28/2012 WAS MANUFACTURED IN 5/2011. THE TOURING L MODEL IS EQUIPPED WITH ECON MODE THAT, WHEN ENGAGED, PROVIDES ALTERNATIVE GEAR CHANGING FOR ECONOMICAL DRIVING. THE FIRST GEAR CHANGE, AT ABOUT 10MPH, STUTTERS WITH A CLUNK SOUND AND LOSS OF RPM. I CONTACTED THE DEALER SOON AFTER PURCHASE ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. THE DEALER DOES NOT HAVE A FIX AND HAS ADVISED CHRYSLER. SINCE THAT TIME I HAVE LEARNED THAT THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM FOR THE T & C VEHICLES WITH THE ECON MODE FEATURE. CHRYSLER HAS RECENTLY ADVISED THE DEALER THAT THEY ARE WORKING ON A FIX. I WAS ALSO TOLD NOT TO USE THIS FEATURE. THERE IS AN IMMEDIATE NEED TO FIX THIS PROBLEM FOR THIS LONG-TERM CHRYSLER-JEEP-DODGE OWNER WHO DIDN'T EXPECT TO PURCHASE A DEFECTIVE VEHICLE. WE HAVE HAD MANY MECHANICAL CONCERNS WITH OUR NEW T&C 2011. WE HAVE TAKEN OUR VEHICLE IN MANY TIMES TO CERRITOS DODGE CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP. AFTER A FAILED ATTEMPT TO FIX SOMETHING WITHIN THE TRANSMISSION, THEY COMPLETELY REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION. THERE WERE STILL CONCERNS AND A WEEK LATER THE VEHICLE HAD BELTS AND THE WATER PUMP REPLACED. TO DATE, MANY OF OUR INITIAL CONCERNS STILL EXIST AND ARE NOT BEING FIXED. CONCERNS INCLUDE: 1. NOISES FROM UNDER THE HOOD. 2. SHUDDER/ SHAKE WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN REVERSE. 3. KEYLESS START MALFUNCTIONS, IT CONTINUES TO READ "DEFECTED KEY", AFTER THE KEYS HAVE BEEN RESET, 4. WHILE USING KEYLESS, THE VEHICLE SHUTS OFF WHEN PUTTING THE CAR INTO REVERSE/DRIVE. 5. ROUGH IDLE, THE VEHICLE SEEMS TO STRUGGLE TO STAY RUNNING. 6. WHEN CHANGING GEARS, THE SHIFT MAKES A CLUNKING/GRINDING NOISE. THE ONLY CONSISTENT THING ABOUT THIS VEHICLE IS ITS INCONSISTENCY. THE DEALERSHIP STATES THAT THE NOISES ARE "NORMAL". THE REGIONAL AREA SERVICE MANAGER HAS BEEN CONTACTED, AND HAS SIDED WITH THE DEALERSHIP. CORPORATE HAS ALSO BEEN CONTACTED, AND THEY ARE INVESTIGATING THE CURRENT SITUATION. *TR

WHEN BACKING UP AN SLIGHTLY INCLINED DRIVEWAY MY NEW 2011 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY (1500 MILES) STARTED SHUDDERING LIKE THE TRANSMISSION WAS FAILING. IN ORDER TO BACK UP I HAD TO ACCELERATE BEYOND WHAT WAS SAFE FOR THE TIGHT AREA I WAS IN. I ROAD TESTED IT ON A STEEP INCLINE AND WAS NOT ABLE TO BACK UP WITH OUT A LOT OF LOUD NOISE AND SHUDDERING. I TOOK IT TO MY DEALER AND THEY AGREED THAT IT SHUDDERED WHEN BACKING UP. THE DEALER TRIED A NEW ONE ON THE LOT AND IT DID THE SAME THING. THE DEALER CONTACTED CHRYSLER, WHO SAID THAT THEIR IS NOTHING THEY COULD DO, BECAUSE IT WAS "CHARACTERISTIC OF THIS VEHICLE" I HAVE THIS IN WRITING FROM MY DEALER. I AM NOW STUCK WITH A $40,000 VEHICLE THAT CAN NOT BE USED SAFELY AT SLOWER SPEEDS IN SITUATIONS INVOLVING INCLINES. *TR
