The contact owns a 2011 Chrysler Town and Country. The contact stated that while her husband was driving at an undisclosed speed, the window glass fell into the door abruptly. A mechanic inspected the vehicle and determined that the failure occurred due to an internal door fracture. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated while driving and turning the steering wheel, the steering wheel made an abnormally loud squealing sound. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle had difficulty starting, and there was an abnormal amount of smoke coming out of the exhaust pipe. The check engine warning light and the electronic throttle control warning light were illuminated. An unknown dealer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 174,098.

Van was sitting in driveaway in front of my house. We noticed smoke coming from rear of the vehicle and then saw flames. Contacted 911. Fire department arrived to put out the fire. They said something appeared to have shorted or exploded inside the driver side rear wall panel. Just below the rear window vent in the area of the 3 row speakers and cup holders. It burned down the exterior of the van near the gas cap.
Rear sliding door lock actuator has failed and is stuck in locked position. It is impossible to open the door from inside or out using either manual or electric opener. This is dangerous as this door can no longer be used in case of emergency or accident. It is also not apparent anything is wrong. It just does not unlock or open.
THE ACTUATOR FAILED ON THE DRIVER SIDE SLIDING DOOR. THE DOOR IS COMPLETELY STUCK AND WILL NOT OPEN MANUALLY MAKING DRIVING A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION.

LEFT SIDE PASSENGER AUTO SLIDING DOOR AUTO LOCKING SYSTEM. WHEN SYSTEM WOULD AUTO LOCK, IT WOULD NOT UNLOCK IN EITHER THE AUTO MODE, ELECTRICALLY BY FOB OR DOOR LOCK ELECTRIC SWITCH AND MOST DANGEROUS, UNABLE TO MANUALLY MOVE THE LOCK RELEASE TAB ON THE DOOR TO UNLOCK POSITION. RENDERS EGRESS FROM THIS DOOR TOTALLY IMPOSSIBLE. TROUBLESHOOT FOR 3 WEEKS. AFTER COUPLE DAYS WAS ABLE TO ELECTRICALLY UNLOCK DOOR AT WITCH TIME I TOTALLY DISCONNECTED DOOR POWER AND OPERATED THE LOCK AND DOOR IN MANUAL MODE NO PROBLEMS.. ONLY WHEN USING THE LOCK SOLENOID,,DID THE LOCK SYSTEM JAM. REPLACED DOOR LOCKING ASSMY AT PART COST OF $648 AND DOOR BACK TO NORMAL OPS. PART NUMBER FOR LOCK WAS DLA1306.

REAR PASSENGER SLIDING DOORS WILL NOT FULLY CLOSE AND LOCK WHEN PUSHING CLOSE BUTTON. DOORS HAVE TO BE MANUALLY PUSHED CLOSED FROM THE OUTSIDE TO CLOSE THE LAST QUARTER INCH AND TO HAVE THE DOOR CLOSE MECHANISM ENGAGE. THIS PRESENT A SAFETY RISK TO 2ND ROW PASSENGERS AS THE DOORS ARE NOT FULLY SECURED.

AFTER RESTARTING THE VEHICLE, THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE INCREASED AND DECREASED AND THE ENGINE WOULD CONTINUE TO SHUT OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. ALSO, THE CONTACT STATED THAT OTHER ELECTRICAL FAILURES PREVIOUSLY OCCURRED, SUCH AS THE PASSENGER SIDE SLIDING DOOR WOULD BUZZ AND THE WINDOWS MALFUNCTIONED. THE LOCAL DEALER (GOLLING CHRYSLER, 2405 S. TELEGRAPH RD., WEST BLOOMFIELD, MI) WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 160,000.

THIS ITEM IS FOR ADDED SAFETY BUT NOT FUNCTIONING AND I'M CONCERNED EXPOSED ELECTRICAL BOARDS TO THE WEATHER COULD CAUSE A SHORT OR FIRE.

THE VEHICLE HAS OVER 50,000 MILES (AND LESS THAN 55,000 MILES, AT THAT TIME) SO THIS WAS NOT A WARRANTY ISSUE. WHEN THE BUMPER WAS REMOVED, IT CONTAINED A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF ROAD DEBRIS AND ROAD SALT. THE LEFT SIDE BLIND-SPOT ALERT MODULE WAS CORRODED. THEY QUOTED REPLACING THAT MODULE AT ABOUT $1200. *JS AT THE DEALER I SAW A REAR BUMPER ASSEMBLY THAT HAS RELATIVELY SMALL OPENINGS THAT ALLOW DEBRIS TO ENTER WITHOUT A WAY FOR IT TO LEAVE. THIS MADE IT EASY FOR SALT AND DEBRIS TO ENTER AND DIFFICULT FOR IT TO LEAVE. THIS PROMOTED THE CORROSION. I CONTACTED CHRYSLER. THEIR POSITION WAS THEY DID NOT COVER CORROSION UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. I CAN FORWARD MY EMAIL EXCHANGE WITH CHRYSLER TO YOU. I VISITED A LOCAL COLLISION REPAIR SHOP. THEY REMOVED THE REAR BUMPER. WITH THEIR EXPERTISE, THEY WERE ABLE TO INFORM ME THAT THE OPENING THAT ALLOWED DEBRIS AND SALT TO ENTER WAS LOCATED WHERE THE REAR TIRES WOULD THROW ROAD DEBRIS AND ROAD SALT AT THE OPENING. CHRYSLER IS REPLACING BETWEEN 375 AND 400 OF THESE MODULES A WEEK ? AT OVER $1000 EACH, BEFORE LABOR TO INSTALL. *JS

MY 6 YEAR OLD SON HIT THE BUTTON TO OPEN THE AUTOMATIC DOOR THE SAME TIME I HIT THE IT CAUSING THE DOOR TO CLOSE ON HIS HEAD. IT CLOSED ON HIS HEAD WITH TREMENDOUS FORCE AND PRESSURE BEFORE RELEASING LEAVING HIM WITH A LARGE BUMP ON THE SIDE OF HIS HEAD AND SORE. IT TOOK A FEW SECONDS TO RELEASE. THE SAFETY MECHANISM OF THIS DOOR IS NOT SAFE AND CAN CAUSE SERIOUS HARM. THE DOOR NEEDS TO CLOSE SLOWER AND LIGHTER. DROVE TO ANOTHER AUTO SHOP WHO THEN WAS ABLE TO SECURE MY BACK DOOR AND COMMENTED HOW LUCKY WE WERE NOT TO HAVE BEEN SEVERELY INJURED FOR THE REASON THAT THE BACK DOOR IS EXTREMELY HEAVY. DOOR THEN SHUT AND LATCHED RAPIDLY (FOUR SECONDS) ON TODDLERS HAND, REQUIRING VISIT TO EMERGENCY ROOM AND TREATMENT. ON MONDAY NOV 5, 2012 WE WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE WE BOUGHT THE VAN, AND THEY SAID IT IS OPERATING AS DESIGNED. THE DOOR IS DESIGNED TO SHUT AND LATCH RAPIDLY IF YOU BUMP IT OR TRY TO PUSH IT OPEN WHILE IT IS OPENING. THEY SHOWED ME ANOTHER VAN THAT IS DESIGNED SAME WAY. I TESTED MY FRIENDS TOYOTA AND HONDA VANS AND THOSE DOORS RIGHTLY OPEN IF YOU BUMP OR PUSH THEM WHILE DOOR IS MECHANICALLY OPENING OR CLOSING. ALL MOTORIZED VAN DOORS REQUIRE SPECIAL AWARENESS, BUT CHRYSLER DOORS ARE UNSAFE. HOPING FOR RECALL SO THEY CAN FIX SAFETY ISSUE FOR EVERYONE AND NO ONE ELSE IS INJURED. *TR

WITH VEHICLE PARKED ON A SLIGHT INCLINE WITH ENGINE TOWARD DOWNHILL, THE VERY HEAVY POWER SLIDING DOORS RELEASE AND SLAM SHUT WHEN CLOSING. IF THE PATH OF THE SLIDING DOOR IS INTERRUPTED (PULL THE DOOR HANDLE WHILE DOOR IS IN MOTION AND POWER DOOR SYSTEM DISENGAGES IMMEDIATELY), POWER DOOR SYSTEM JUST LETS THE DOOR GO. POWER SLIDING DOOR SYSTEM SHOULD EITHER OPEN THE DOOR OR HOLD IT IN AN HALF WAY OPENED POSITION, INSTEAD IT RELEASES THE DOOR TO GRAVITY. ANYONE CAUGHT IN THAT SLAMMING DOOR WOULD BE SERIOUSLY INJURED. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED WHEN HE HEARD A HISSING SOUND FOLLOWED BY A LOUD BANG. THE CONTACT OBSERVED A SHOCK FROM THE REAR LIFT GATE BE SPEWED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE DENTED THE REAR FENDER AND FRACTURED THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE TAIL LIGHT. THE REAR LIFT GATE STOPPED WORKING PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY NEVER HEARD OF ONE OF THE SHOCKS EXPLODING BEFORE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 14,000.

I STARTED OUR 2011 CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY, STEPPED ON THE PARKING BRAKE PEDAL TO RELEASE THE BRAKE. WHEN I GOT TO 65 M.P.H. THE HOOD STARTED SHAKING. I REALIZED THAT WHEN I RELEASED THE PARKING BRAKE THAT MY TOE MUST HAVE TRIPPED THE HOOD RELEASE LEVER. THIS IS A SAFETY DESIGN FLAW IN THAT THE HOOD RELEASE LEVER SHOULD NOT BE LOCATED DIRECTLY ABOVE THE PARKING BRAKE PEDAL. I CALLED THE CHRYSLER CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE CENTER AT 800-247-9753 TO REPORT THIS PROBLEM 7-6-2012. THE REFERENCE NUMBER IS [XXX]. POWER SLIDING DOOR DOES NOT STOP CLOSING WHEN AN OBJECT IS ENCOUNTERED. MY WIFE WAS HURT BUT NOT SERIOUSLY INJURED WHEN SHE WAS CAUGHT IN THE DOOR WHILE IT WAS CLOSING. WE'RE CONCERNED THAT IF A CHILD WAS CAUGHT THEY WOULD BE MUCH MORE SERIOUSLY INJURED. CHRYSLER SAYS THERE IS NO AWAY TO ADJUST THE SENSITIVITY SO THAT THE DOOR STOPS EXERTING FORCE SOONER. *TR

MY ALMOST 2 YEAR OLD GOT HIS HAND FULLY CAUGHT IN THE SLIDING DOOR, EVEN THOUGH IT IS SUPPOSED TO HAVE A SAFETY FEATURE WHICH WOULD PREVENT IT. THE DOOR WAS CLOSING, CLOSED AND FULLY ENGAGED THE LOCKS ON HIS HAND. HIS HAND WAS LODGE FAR ENOUGH INTO THE DOOR THAT YOU COULDN'T SLIDE THE HAND OUT, YOU HAD TO PHYSICALLY OPEN THE DOOR TO GET HIS HAND OUT, HE COULDN'T JUST SLIDE IT OUT. AT THE TIME HE HAD INDENTS ON HIS FINGERS WHERE THE DOOR PUSHED IN THEM. NOW, A FEW HOURS LATER, HE HAS BRUISING AND SLIGHT SWELLING TO HIS FINGERS AND ONE OF THE FINGERS HAS A SLIGHT CUT ON IT. THESE DOORS ARE SUPPOSED TO HAVE A SENSOR IN IT TO PREVENT THE DOORS FROM CLOSING ON SOMEONE, IT OBVIOUSLY FAILED IN THIS CASE. *TR

ENGINE NOISE. COMPARED TO OUR OLD VAN, THE SOUNDS FROM THE NEW VAN ENGINE ARE LOUDER. I NOTICED WHEN WE BOUGHT THE 2011 VAN IN JANUARY, THAT IT DOES NOT HAVE A SOUND INSULATED HOOD. TODAY WHEN DRIVING A 2010 LOANER T&C - FROM THE LOCAL DEALER WHEN OUR TRANSMISSION WAS BEING SERVICED - THE 2010 HAS A PIECE OF INSULATION ON THE UNDERSIDE OF THE HOOD. THE 2011 MODEL DOES NOT HAVE THIS INSULATION AND IS NOISIER. IS THIS A COST CUTTING EFFORT? NOTHING LIKE TRYING TO PLEASE CUSTOMERS TO HELP FUTURE SALES. *TR
