The contact owns a 2013 Chrysler Town and Country. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost motive power. The brake pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to stop as intended. Additionally, the vehicle lost power steering functionality and the vehicle became difficult to steer. The contact stated that the failure occurred while driving uphill on a very narrow street. The contact was able to shift the vehicle into park, while using both feet to depress the brake pedal. The vehicle was stopped, and the contact turned off the vehicle. The contact stated that her four-year-old granddaughter was a passenger in the vehicle and the situation was very scary. The contact waited for several minutes, before restarting the vehicle. The vehicle was driven to the residence. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The contact stated that the failure had occurred several times and the vehicle had been taken to an independent mechanic several times; however, the failure was not duplicated. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 99,000.

The contact owns a 2013 Chrysler Town and Country. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle stalled, and failed to respond as intended upon depressing the brake pedal. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to restart for approximately 45 minutes. The contact pulled to the side of the road. The contact stated that on one occasion, the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic however, the failure could not be duplicated. No further information was provided. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
While driving the car stalls at speed and all electrical components stop functioning. This causes failure to the power steering, power brakes and all components that permit driving the vehicle. Has happened numerous times with no codes shown on the dash. Fuel was adequate and no apparent defects. Taken to mechanic and there are no codes to check and commonly the engine will start up after a while and appear to have no problems. This is very dangerous as the car can stall at any speed.
In two separate incidents on 5/4/23 and 5/5/23, while DRIVING, the vehicle has stalled without warning. The engine completely shut off. Power steering and breaks stopped functioning properly making it VERY difficult to pullover and stop. Once pulled over, had to place the vehicle in park, completely turn off the electrical and restart the vehicle. No warning lamps or messages appeared before or after the incident. The vehicle has been displaying some issues starting recently, especially when using the push button. However, we have always been able to get it to start by inserting the key. This is an incredibly dangerous situation for the driver and any occupants as it has happened without warning while driving on highways which could very easily result in an accident if unable to pullover safely or stop if the breaks are not working. The vehicle has not yet been inspected, but we plan to get it inspected as soon as possible.
Vehicle has stalled numerous times while operating at high rates of speed 60+ mph in most cases. No prior warning or indication of stalling until vehicle no longer accelerates and then seconds later loses power steering. Usually I can get to the side of the road and pull out of traffic. However last night was not the case. I stalled in a construction zone, with concrete barriers on both sides. I pulled over as far as I could and was nearly hit multiple times by semis and other vehicles. I had my 4 children in the car with me and they are traumatized now. They were bawling because they thought they were going to get hit. We had a sheriff call for a tow truck which was not free. We were left stranded in the dark, in the cold, for an hour just this incident. It once was an issue that only happened occasionally. It happened 6 times this past week while I was out of state for holidays. This is my only means of transportation and having a newborn I have to be able to get around safely. I will state again NO warning prior, and no engine light after to diagnose the issue. Myself and my 4 children could have lost our lives last night. The officers who stopped could have lost their lives the passerby could have lost their lives. This vehicle is a death trap. They need to recall all of them to locate the real problem before tragedy strikes. I wouldn’t even give this vehicle away that’s how unsafe it is.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? While driving the entire engine and system shut off. All powered functions ceased and i was left to pull over with no power steering, the brakes didn't respond as well, signals weren't working either. Once pulled over I was able to restart the car with no issue, but the vehicle has continued to randomly lose all power, it seems to occur more frequently when when braking or slowing down. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? It was put at great risk as the car could have lost control and i was at limited capacity to correct with no engine power or other powered functions. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No warning.
THE VANS POWER WOULD FLICKER ON AND OFF MULTIPLE TIMES. THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS WOULD TURN ON AND OFF. THE RADIO ON AND OFF. ALL DASH LIGHTS ON AND OFF. THEN DRIVING 26MPH ONE DAY IT DID THIS AND THE WHOLE ENGINE SHUT OFF WITH THE KEYS IN THE IGNITION WHILE DRIVING. I LOST ALL POWER, POWER STEERING, AND BRAKES! BATTERY WAS REPLACED AND THE ISSUES KEPT GETTING WORSE.

WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE WHEN I LIFTED MY FOOT OFF OF THE GAS PEDAL IT STARTED TO JERK ON ME, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STAYS ON AND THE ABS LIGHT WILL STAY ON, IT ALSO STALLS AT RANDUM ANYTIME WHILE DRIVING, EVERY 2 TO 3 YEARS I HAVE TO HAVE THE BRAKES AND THE ROTORS REDONE, I HAD THE CAMSHAFT SENSOR REPLACED AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY FOUND METAL FRAGMENTS ON THE SENSOR I EVEN SAW IT AND WAS TOLD THAT THAT USUALLY TELLS THEM THAT THIS IS A TIMING PROBLEM AND COULD BE THE PROBLEM FOR STALLING AND IF THAT DOESN'T WORK THEN IT WILL BE THE ENGINE, THE TIMING PROBLEM WILL COST AROUND $2000 ALONG WITH THE COST OF THE ENGINE IF ITS NOT THE TIMING,THEN THERE IS A EVAPORATOR CORE PROBLEM THAT IS COSTLY, THERE IS A MANIFOLD GASKET LEAK ALSO ANOTHER $1000,I'VE ALWAYS DONE THE SERVICE REPAIRS BUT THIS IS ALL TO COSTLY HATE TO DUMP IT BUT NOW I'M THINKING OF A DIFFERENT VEHICLE AND NOT ANOTHER TOWN N COUNTRY, WILL NEVER BUY AGAIN

IT IS A VERY DANGEROUS AS IT HAS HAPPENED MANY TIMES OFTEN AT HIGHT SPEEDS AND IN TRAFFIC. I HAVE SEEN THAT MANY OTHERS HAVE HAD THIS SAME SAFETY ISSUE AND NO RESOLUTION HAS COME OF IT.

MY WIFE WAS DRIVING 40 MPH AND THE ENGINE TURNED OFF. IT WAS 5 PM AND RUSH HOUR WITH CARS ALL AROUND HER. SHE NOTICED A WALGREENS COMING ON HER RIGHT. SHE HAD NO TURN SIGNAL TO ALERT THE DRIVER BEHIND HER. MY WIFE TRIED TO SLOW DOWN TO TURN BUT REALIZED THAT SHE HAD NO BRAKES. SHE TURNED INTO THE PARKING LOT AND HAD NO POWER STEERING. SHE HAD TO USE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP. MY WIFE HAD BOTH MY SONS IN THE CAR WITH HER. SHE THEN PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND WAS ABLE TO TURN THE CAR BACK ON. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWO TIMES BEFORE THIS. EACH TIME I HAVE BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAY THERE IS NOTHING SHOWING UP AND IT DOESN'T DO IT WHEN THEY DRIVE THE VEHICLE. CHRYSLER WAS CONTACTED ON 4/1/19 AND THEY ISSUED A CASE NUMBER 58294804. THEY ASKED IF I WANTED TO GET IT FIXED OR A BUYBACK. I SAID BUYBACK. I CALLED ON 4/3/19 TO CHECK THE STATUS AND THEY SAID THEY ARE STILL INVESTIGATING.

THE ROTORS WERE SLIGHTLY WARPED AND THIS CONDITION IMPACTS THE DRIVER'S ABILITIY TO STOP THE VEHICLE UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS. AFTER TALKING TO THE SERVICE MANAGER AND READING THE ONLINE COMPLAINTS, CHRYSLER IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM BUT THEY ARE UNWILLING TO HELP WITH THE REPAIR TO FIX THIS DESIGN ISSUE. NOTE: I ONLY HAD 10% WEAR ON THE PARTS THAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND THIS VAN WAS INSPECTED IN FEBRUARY BY A NYS INSPECTOR AND NO DEFECTS WERE FOUND.

GOING 40 MPH AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED. AGAIN, I WAS LUCKY AND NO ACCIDENT. ?TOOK THE VAN TO NEAREST DEALERSHIP. THEY CHARGED ME $79 TO CHECK OUT THE CAR ? AND THEY DID NOT FIND ANYTHING. I WOULD HAVE THOUGHT THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN A COVERED CHARGE. ?CHRYSLER ?ESCALATED MY TICKET TO CORPORATE? AND THEY ALSO ASKED ME IF I FELT SAFE DRIVING MY VAN HOME. I DID NOT FEEL SAFE ? BUT REALLY DID NOT SEE A CHOICE BECAUSE ALL THE DEALERSHIP AND THE SURROUNDING CAR RENTAL PLACES HAD TO OFFER ME WAS A SMALL CAR AND I HAD 3 PEOPLE, LUGGAGE AND A WHEELCHAIR TO GET HOME. ?I DROVE SIDE ROADS HOME ? THE TOTAL TRIP TOOK ME AN ADDITIONAL 9 HOURS INSTEAD OF 4.5. (11/06/14) THE CAR SHUT DOWN AGAIN ON ME ? NO ONE WAS ON THE ROAD AT THE TIME. ?(11/07/14) RAY LAETHAM DEALERSHIP IN GROSSE POINTE, MICHIGAN. ?11/12/14 DEALERSHIP ASKED SEVERAL QUESTIONS ABOUT THE CAR AND SAID THE ENGINEERS AT CHRYSLER HAVE GIVEN THEM ADDITIONAL THINGS TO TRY ?11/14/14 DEALERSHIP TELLS ME I CAN PICK UP MY VAN. ENGINEERS HAVE DECIDED THAT IT MUST HAVE BEEN THE E85 GAS THAT I HAD BEEN USING "WHICH HAS BEEN KNOWN TO CAUSE PROBLEMS" EVEN THOUGH THAT IS THE GAS THAT I WAS TOLD TO USE. WHEN DRIVING IN THE MOUNTAINS OF COLORADO AND GOING DOWN A STEEP INCLINE WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES TO SLOW DOWN THE CAR SHUDDERED LIKE IT WAS GOING TO FALL APART, SCARED MY WIFE AND GRANDCHILDREN BADLY, AFRAID TO DRIVE IN THIS CAR NOW. APPEARS T O BE A PROBLEM WITH THE ROTORS OVERHEATING AND WRAPPING PER TWO BRAKE SPECIALIST I TOOK THE CAR TO. CALLED CHRYSLER AND THEY WANT ME TO TAKE IT INTO THE DEALER TO HAVE BRAKES CHECKED OUT, BUT WANT TO CHARGE ME A DIAGNOSTIC FEE UP FRONT AND WONT DO A FREE BRAKE INSPECTION FOR A VERY POSSIBLE BRAKE ROTOR DEFECT (CHEAP ROTORS?) I DON'T HAVE THE MONEY FOR THE UPFRONT DIAGNOSTIC FEE AS I WAS LAID OFF A YEAR AGO. THEY WILL NOT FOREGO THE UPFRONT FEE SO I AM STUCK WITH PERHAPS A FAULTY BRAKE SYSTEM. MY VAN WITH 18,000 MILES WENT IN FOR SERVICE AND I WAS TOLD THAT THE GRIND I FEEL IN MY BRAKES OF MY CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY WAS DUE TO 'WARPED' ROTORS. THE BRAKE PADS WERE FINE, BUT THE ROTORS WARPED DUE TO EXCESSIVE HEAT CREATED WHEN I USE THE BRAKES! I AM CONFUSED, WHAT ARE BRAKES FOR? I PAID TO HAVE MY ROTORS CUT, ONLY BECAUSE I NEED THIS VAN TO TRANSPORT YOUNG CHILDREN, IT IS AND HAS BEEN A PROBLEM FOR YEARS WITH CHRYSLER VANS THAT THE BRAKES NEED TO BE REPLACE WAY BEFORE THE NORM. CHRYSLER SHOULD BE FORCED INTO A RECALL. THE CONSUMER SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR PARTS AND LABOR WHEN IT IS OBVIOUS THERE IS A PROBLEM HERE. THE MICHELIN TIRES, ENERGY SAVER A/S ARE DEFECTIVE AND DRY ROTTING CAUSING A POTENTIAL BLOWOUT AND ACCIDENT. THE ACCELERATOR IS POSITIONED TOO FAR FORWARD AND THE BRAKE IS POSITIONED TOO FAR BACK, CAUSING THE FOOT TO SLIDE UNDER THE BRAKE WHEN CHANGING OVER FROM ACCELERATION TO BRAKING. A VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM AND DEFECT IN THE DESIGN AND WORKMANSHIP OF THIS VEHICLE. *TR

RENTED A MINIVAN FROM AVIS AT SLC AIRPORT LATE JULY 2013. ON THE HIGHWAY IMMEDIATELY AFTER LEAVING THE AIRPORT MY KNEE BUMPED THE MASS OF KEYRING OBJECTS AND TURNED THE ENGINE OFF AS I WAS JUST GETTING UP TO 60MPH. I NOTICED THE VEHICLE SLOWING DOWN AND DETERMINED I HAD ACCIDENTALLY SHUT IT DOWN. IT WOULD NOT START. I SHIFTED TO NEUTRAL AND RESTARTED THE ENGINE, SHIFTED BACK TO DRIVE. ONLY ONE OF THE 5 PASSENGERS EVEN NOTICED THE SLOWDOWN. UNDER DIFFERENT CIRCUMSTANCES THIS COULD HAVE RESULTED IN AN ACCIDENT. IF IT IS THE PRACTICE OF RENTAL COMPANIES TO BIND KEYS LIKE THIS THE PROBLEM COULD BE WIDESPREAD AND MAY HAVE RESULTED IN AN ACCIDENT ALREADY, THUS THIS REPORT. GIVEN MY EXPERIENCE I BELIEVE THE PRACTICE OF BINDING ALL THE KEYS AND OTHER PLASTIC DOO-DAHS WITH A STIFF WIRE CABLE TO BE AN ACCIDENT IN THE WAITING. IN MY CASE THE SEAT WAS A LITTLE FORWARD AND I MOVED IT BACK A COUPLE OF INCHES TO AVOID HAVING THE KEYS DANCE ON MY KNEE AS WE DROVE. AT A STOP I CUT THE WIRE RING AND PUT ALL THE EXTRAS IN THE GLOVE COMPARTMENT AND CONTINUED THE TRIP WITH A SINGLE FOB-KEY. THE KEYS: I WAS GIVEN SET OF KEYS BOUND BY A WIRE CABLE. TWO FOBS, TWO SPARE KEYS (NORMALLY INSERTED IN THE FOBS) , THREE PLASTIC ADD-ONS (ONE HELD A PAPER SLIP IDENTIFYING THE VEHICLE, ONE AVIS CALL NUMBER AND ONE MACYS LOYALTY CARD) I HAVE NO ISSUES WITH THE VEHICLE AS IT WORKED FINE, NOR WITH THE RENTAL COMPANY AS THEIR SERVICE WAS ALSO FINE. I DO TAKE ISSUE WITH THE PRACTICE OF BINDING THE KEYS WITH A WIRE CABLE THAT MUST BE CUT (LEATHER-MAN TOOL IN MY CASE) TO DRIVE SAFELY. I SUSPECT MOST RENTERS WILL NOT HAVE A TOOL HANDY NOR RISK THE WRATH OF THE RENTER IN CUTTING THE WIRE CABLE. NOTE I TOOK A FEW PICTURES OF THE KEY RING AND OBJECTS SHOULD IT BE USEFUL. TO AVIS CREDIT THEY WERE HAPPY TO HAVE ALL THE KEYS RETURNED AND WERE NOT CONCERNED I'D CUT THE CABLE. *TR

AS I WAS BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE, I LOST POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES. STEERING WAS VERY STIFF AND BRAKES WERE HARD. IT WAS SIMILAR TO WHEN THE CAR STALLS, BUT THE CAR WAS STILL RUNNING. I PUT THE CAR IN DRIVE AND ATTEMPTED TO PULL FORWARD. STILL NO POWER STEERING OR POWER BRAKES. I PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND NO CHANGE. I TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE, WAITED A MINUTE OR TWO AND THEN RESTARTED IT. CAR WAS FINE THEN. WHEN THIS OCCURRED, NO INDICATORS LIT ON THE DASH. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM OR DETERMINE ANY CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM.
