After the Chrysler dealer in Glendale CA completed Recall S44 – Transmission Oil Pump on my 2016 Chrysler Town & Country in October 3 2025, the transmission began to malfunction and eventually stopped shifting completely. The dealer drained the transmission fluid, removed both front axles, removed all transmission components, and replaced the transmission oil pump, seals, bolts, and torque converter as required by the recall. The transmission is available for inspection upon request. Safety Risk: The vehicle became unsafe to drive when the transmission began shifting erratically and then failed to shift at all, causing sudden loss of acceleration in traffic and posing a risk to myself and others. Diagnostic Codes: Before the recall, the vehicle had code P06DE (Engine Oil Pressure Control). Chrysler has a documented TSB for P06DE requiring a PCM software update, but the dealer did not perform this update during the recall. After the recall, the vehicle developed new code P0760 (Shift Solenoid C Malfunction), which was not present prior to the recall and appeared only after the transmission was reassembled. Inspection and Confirmation: The dealer confirmed P0760 but refused further inspection or repair, stating it was “not related,” despite the failure occurring immediately after major recall-related transmission work. The vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer. The failure is reproducible: the transmission will not shift. Reason for Complaint: This failure happened shortly after the S44 recall, which involved complete transmission disassembly. The combination of new post-recall transmission codes, the absence of a required PCM software update, and the sudden unsafe failure raises concern that the recall work may not have been performed correctly. I request NHTSA review whether Recall S44 repairs are causing secondary failures or being improperly completed
The contact owns a 2016 Chrysler Town and Country. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed in traffic, the vehicle stalled. The contact shifted to neutral(N) and was able to drive to the intended destination. The contact stated that while driving and attempting to stop the vehicle, the vehicle required to be shifted to neutral(N) repeatedly. Van was driving fine, no issues. Regular maintenance done, and 100,000 mile work completed within last year. One day it was totally fine, the next day it was whining, hopping and driving unsafely. Transmission randomly needs replaced. Throwing codes for low pressure and the pump losing prime. All codes were transmission lost of pressure related and the transmission has an internal failure.

I was pulling up to a red stoplight to stop and the vehicle sputtered to a stop & the engine stalled and I tried to restart the vehicle & it immediately died 2 times. On the 2rd time starting the vehicle it stayed one, I had put on my hazard lights by this time as the light had already turned green and the 2 cars behind me had pulled around me to go through the intersection. Once my car started again, I pulled over to the turn lane & pulled into the gas station parking lot. The car stayed on and was ok until I was almost home. I had pulled up to stop at a stop sign & it reacted similarly; sputtered to a stop then just turned off. No check engine light on or anything. Thankfully ai was able to make it the couple.blocks away to my home.

I purchased a used 2016 Chrysler Town & Country in February 2017 at 33,000 miles. At 77,000 miles, the transmission failed and had to be replaced, just beyond the 65,000-mile warranty. The second transmission has now failed again just beyond 100,000 miles. In addition to the repeated transmission failures, this vehicle was manufactured without a transmission dipstick, which Chrysler made proprietary. Multiple mechanics confirmed that checking or maintaining transmission fluid requires special tools or dealer-only service, making regular maintenance nearly impossible for owners. This design flaw contributes to premature failure of the transmission and creates a safety and reliability risk. Chrysler must be held accountable for releasing a vehicle with limited serviceability and repeat major component failures. I am requesting the NHTSA investigate this issue for safety, design defect, and potential recall.

1st Vehicle was driving heavy so I got it checked and the transmission had to be replaced, this was in July?? 2024. The vehicle was still driving heavy 2nd was the traction light(s) VSR?? light turned on 3rd The check engine light came on and gave a P0420 Code. The right catalytic converter was replaced in March 2025 4th The same day I went to repare the Catalytic Converter (before replacement), the Blind Spot System warning came on along with 1. My windshield wipers turning on and off by themselves, 2. rpm went down to 0, 3. the low fuel sign came on even though I just fueled up AND the needle dropped to E, 4. the MPH also went down to 0, 5. the tire detection came on + the light, 6. the ABS light came on, 7. the traction lights came, 8. Heating/A/C system dropped to a lower pressure and then regained pressure, 9. there is a skip when accelerating, 10. won't properly read mileages used11. I lose control of my turn signals, lights, wipers AND hazard light as well as the powered windows Everything turned off and I gained control again Then it started again I turned the vehicle off but the lights kept turning on and off and I kept gaining control then losing it ALL of this occurs while I am driving, at a stop, or just turning on the vehicle Yes this possesses an issue for my and the safety of others No and Yes about the confirmed issues with a certified dealership No because I am scheduled for an appointment with a Chrysler dealer tomorrow (Mar.20th,2025) Yes because I have gone to other dealers and they cannot figure out what the main issue is No the issue has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance rep., etc. Yes and No to other warnings I knew someone was off because when I turn the key to the run position right before I turn the vehicle on, the check engine light stays on If I leave it in that position until all the other lights turn off, the check engine light remains on When I turn the vehicle completely on, the check engine light disappears
The transmission studders and temporarily loss of power. Chrysler is aware of issue but will not do anything until nhtsa makes a recall. This is our family of 5 primary vehicle, and we are afraid of this issues causing an accident that can cause harm if not death. I thought the S44 recall would cover the vehicle but it's not listed.
Transmission failed while driving in the highway. There’s a recall S44 but my vin is not included in the list while my car has the same symptoms that the cars included in that recall.

My 2016 Chrysler Town and country van, started making horrible noises while I was circling to get my friend at the airport. There was no warning light and no place to stop. I slowly drove 2 miles to a gas station and parked it over night, got it towed to my regular shop in the morning. They told me transmission oil pump had failed. They referenced me to NTHSA SAFETY RECALL 16V461000 ( Chrysler recall number S44 ) for transmission oil pump. Recall was for dates Aug 2015 thru Aug 2016. My vehicle DOM was December 2015, right in the middle of the recall date range. However, for unknown reasons, my VIN is not included in the NTHSA recall and Chrysler / FCA / Stellantis is refusing to pay for the $7500 repair. I would like NTHSA to please add my VIN number to the above referenced recall. Please let me know next steps. Thank you!

1. Engine runs but when I shift into reverse, drive etc. Car does not move. When I took it to be looked at, they said that my transmission doesn't have pressure. There was no indicator lights on the dash or any reason for me to think anything was wrong until I went out to drive my kids to school and it wouldn't move. Available for inspection on request.
Spark plugs and motor/transmission mount fixed but car started shutting off when I would come to a stop. Took it back to dealership and they stated the TCC failed and was replaced, started messing up again a week later. Wouldn’t start , I had the battery and alternator checked and both are good. It is currently back in the shop.

The oil cooler and oil filter housing unit is made of plastic becomes cracked and leaks oil and coolant. with it leaking oil and coolant the engine can seize and over heat. I have had the same problem with my 2012 Chrysler town and country with the same plastic oil cool/oil filter housing unit.
Oil leakage. I’ve read numerous reports online with the same year make and model about oil leakage we bought this car used without doing and research first just because we needed a car. And when I notice the oil leak I’ve been doing research and a lot of people have had the same problem causing people to spend ALOT of money to fix it which could have been prevented.
On 9/29/23 while traveling on Rt. 17 West in the Town of Goshen, NY my vehicle experienced an unexpected loss of motive power. Transmission pump failure resulting in gear slippage and loss of power while my wife was driving. Seems to be the exact issue specified in an already existing Recall, but doesn't seem to apply to our 2016 Chrysler minivan. The hydraulic pump went out - causing transmission failure.
Entered the highway and attempted to accelerate and bring car up to speed to match other cars. Car reached 55 mph but could not go faster and did not shift into higher gear. Noticed a high pitch noised coming from engine compartment. Over the course of a few hours the car would lag when shifting into reverse and would lurch forward when it did kick in. The car was taken to NAPA for a diagnostic where they diagnosed a problem with the transmission and that the car had transferred into "limp" mode. We were informed by Jet Automotive the transmission requires an overhaul.

I have a 2016 Town and Country with 83k miles on it. While backing out of a crowded parking lot after my Childs baseball game, my transmission had failed. My car would not go back into drive, therefore I was rolling backwards. There were multiple people around and I could have seriously hurt someone or myself and my children. After it rolled back a bit, the transmission finally shifted and went into drive. At that point the car jolted forward and I was able to move to a safer location, while the car then went back to having no power. My children and myself were left stranded. The car has been towed and checked on by a mechanic. The trans pump has failed. Chrysler has a recall, s44, but conveniently my car is not covered by it. I am not sure why this very serious and dangerous incident happening with these vehicles would have ANY cars that were not part of this warranty. Chrysler needs to do better. This issue, with a build date of 9/2015 should be part of this recall, which has a build date of July 31,2015 through April 18,2016.

Was slowing to get ready to make a turn onto another adjacent road loss of power steering and the stall nearly resulting in Auto accident Luckily my 3 children were not present in the van at the time no warning lights no check engine lamp just sudden failure and shutoff of the vehicle
When I was driving my children to daycare the car suddenly lost power and was unable to drive over 20 mph. Fortunately, it was early in the morning and the road I usually travel was not as busy as it is later in the day. The RPMs were jumping and the car was jerking around. Luckily, I was able to pull into a residential area and call for a tow. No warning lights came on in the vehicle and I was traveling on a main road with a speed limit of 50 MPH when the problem occurred. I had the transmission replaced and the mechanic said this is a very common problem with the 2016 Town and Country and upon further inspection I read that over 20,000 of these make and model vehicles were recalled for the same exact type of transmission failure. I doubt my mechanic has the old transmission still in his possession but I have receipts of what exactly was repaired.
The contact owns a 2016 Chrysler Town and Country. The contact stated while driving 40 MPH and accelerating, the transmission experienced hard shifting. The vehicle started jerking and made abnormally loud sounds. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact continued driving at 40 MPH on the highway to prevent the failure from reoccurring. The vehicle was taken to a local Pep Boys and to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the failure was associated with the power train and the transmission needed to be replaced. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 160,000.

My van will sporadically lose power and stall while driving down the road. I have to put in back in park to restart the van to continue on down the road. It's been scary driving with my 3 kids in the van. I'm afraid the stalling out is going to cause me to get into a collision. I had it in a shop recently and they told me that it was related to a recall S44 or 16V461000, but they didn't have a tech who could do the repair to the transmission. But another shop says that my van doesn't have any recalls even though my van falls within all the parameters of the known safety recall.
Owner was driving car and noticed high pitch whir at low speed upon entering the highway, had the radio been on then this noise would not have been noticed. Driver was able to exit the highway. Upon reaching a stoplight the vehicle revved up to 60mph then down to zero. When barely compressing the gas this occurred again. Owner quickly turned off and on vehicle hoping to reset whatever was happening. Upon restarting and barely pressing gas the vehicle lurched forward with high rpm. Driver was in high traffic area at height of rush hour, but was able to cross 4 lanes of traffic to a side street. Car was towed to dealership where it was confirmed that the transmission pump had failed and metal shards had gone through the transmission causing full replacement to be needed. No warning lights went off on vehicle and vehicle had been serviced regularly with no warning of failure. Loss of control of vehicle in heavy traffic was unexpected and dangerous. Vehicle had 49,787 miles at time of failure.
The transmission pump failed suddenly, resulting in severe slippage in the transmission and loss of motive power for the vehicle. The vehicle struggled to stay up to road speeds on the highway until I could get it parked in a safe place to get my family out of the vehicle. Later on that day, I tried to take the vehicle around the block, to which it barely would make it back to it's starting point it was slipping so badly. A local Chrysler dealer has diagnosed the transmission is bad specifically citing a bad pump in the transmission. There were no warning lamps or indicators alerting us to this problem, just the sudden failure of the transmission putting me and my family in an unsafe situation. This vehicle meets all the criteria of a Chrysler Town and Country listed on Recall 16v-461 (S44 within FCA's nomenclature). The build date of our van falls squarely within the build date window listed in the recall. Recall states 7/31/15 through 4/18/2016 build dates are affected--our van states Build date of 11/15 on the door jamb. However, after contacting multiple dealerships and Chrysler themselves, they claim our van is not a part of this recall as the VIN number is not associated with the recall. I don't understand. The recall calls out the failure of the transmission oil pump, and that is the exact part that has failed on our van causing an unsafe sudden failure of the transmission in our van. I think it is a failure on FCA's part to not associate all the vehicles with this recall that in reality should be associated with this recall. This is wrong.
On my 2016 Town & Country, the check engine light went on. The repair facility said the code is PO740 (transmission torque converter circuit). Another repair facility says the transmission needs to be replaced. The vehicle has only 61,XXX miles.
The contact owns a 2016 Chrysler Town and Country. The contact stated while shifting into reverse, the vehicle failed to respond. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that she continuously moved the gear shifter from park to reverse(R) and drive(D) until the vehicle responded after shifting into drive(D). The contact was able to drive the vehicle however, the vehicle would not exceed 20 MPH. The contact engaged the hazards lights and continued driving. The contact stated that upon pulling into her driveway, the check engine warning light illuminated. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the dealer needed to diagnose the vehicle before they could cover the repair under NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V461000 (Power Train). The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact followed up with the manufacturer; however, the manufacturer informed the contact that they could not assist and referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 102,283.

During idle, or driving under various conditions, vehicle will randomly "shut down". This can happen driving through a corner or on the interstate at 70mph. Once it shuts down, you lose braking and steering assist. Still have headlight and accessory power. Car will start right back up either putting it in neutral and turning the key, or coming to a stop and putting it in park. Doesn't hesitate to crank, appears to have fuel pressure and spark. There is no correlation to this issue with driving conditions. Sometimes will happen multiple times in a day, sometimes wont happen for a week. Research suggests that this is a very common issue across many years of vehicles that have used the 3.6L Pentastar engine, however no TSB's or recalls have been issue for the 2016 T&C exhibiting this issue.
The contact owns a 2016 Chrysler Town and Country. The contact stated while driving 55 MPH, she heard an abnormal noise near the floor of the vehicle. The contact then stated that while the vehicle was idling at a stop, she depressed the accelerator pedal; however, RPM’s increased rapidly but the vehicle failed to respond. The contact was able to coast the vehicle off the road. The check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The contact referenced the NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V461000 (Power Train). The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the VIN was not included in a recall. Cylinder 3 missfire Loss of hydraulic pump prime. Line pressure low. LC pressure switch rationality. Yes it's available for inspection. Unknown if reproduced by dealer or other Unknown if inspected by manufacturer or other. The check engine light came on a little after 90k miles, at which time it was out of warranty, the mechanic said it had a weak cylinder and the motor needed to be replaced or rebuilt, but it was still drivable. The van would start shaking and loses power under moderate acceleration (like getting on interstate) and begin dinging but eventually gain power back. Around 119k miles, the van made a loud Squealing sound and started loosing speed very quickly in the middle of traffic. I put the car in park and back in drive to see if I could get it out of the road. It then started to roll backwards I barely pushed the gas and it revved up to 6000 RPM and then jerked and quickly accelerated forward. If a car would have been close enough I would have hit them while rolling backwards and when it accelerated forward. Upon inspection, the faults listed above came up. The van is no longer drivable but still starts.
Engine needed to be replaced 1 year ago. Transmission began skipping and losing pressure and now needs to be rebuilt
The contact owns a 2016 Chrysler Town and Country. The transmission fails. When this happens the call stalls or jerks while driving. This was seen by my local mechanic for the pump and the transmission is now being serviced by another independent repair shop. When the issue originally happens there were many lights that went off. once the pump was replaced a few months later we got the check engine light where we found major damage to the transmission (torque converter, solenoid block, and Drum).
The contact owns a 2016 Chrysler Town and Country. The contact stated while driving approximately 15-20 MPH, the vehicle revved high several times, started jerking and stalled. The contact veered to the side of the roadway. The contact was unable to restart the vehicle after several attempts. The vehicle was towed the dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The dealer also informed the contact that the vehicle could not be repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V461000 (Power Train) because the VIN was not included. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that they could not assist as the VIN was not included. The manufacturer also informed the contact that she did not qualify for Good Will assistance due to the mileage on the vehicle and because she was not the original owner. WELL THE PASSENGER SLIDING DOOR HASN'T LOCKED SINCE I CAN'T REMEMBER, BUT THAT ISN'T MY MAIN COMPLAINT, M Y TRANSMISSION WENT OUT ALONG WITH POSSIBLE FUEL PUMP ISSUES ETC. THIS HAPPENED WHILE ENROUTE TO MEET MY DAD AND BROTHERS FOR LUNCH ON A SATURDAY AFTERNOON, I HAD MY 3 CHILDREN WITH ME ASWELL..... IT WAS A LITTLE SCARY AND I WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF THEBUSY HIGHWAY AND INTO A CHURCH PARKING LOT. WHERE THE VAN SAT UNTIL MONDAY AND WA TAKEN TO MY DADS VIA TOWE. THE INCIDENT HAPPENED ON APRIL 9TH 2022. I HD IT CHECKED OUT PRIOR BY A PLACE CALLED DEMARC AUTO IN CALDWELL IDAHO,( WHERE IT SAT FOR A WEEK) DUE TO AN ENGINE LIGHT BEING ON FOR A WHILE, MY DAD CHECKED PREVIOUSLY WITH A FUSE READER DEVISE AND IT SHOWED A THERMOSTAT ISSUE WHICH IS WHY THE ENGINE LIGHTWAS ON. BUT I HADMY DAD TAKE IT IN TO HAVE IT CHECKED OUT, THERE THEY NOTICED THAT THE THERMOSTAT DID NEED REPLACED AND STATED THAT IT DID SEEM LIKE THERE MIGHT BE AN ISSUE WITH THE TRANSMISSION BUT SAID IT DROVE OK AFTER THEY FIXED THE THERMOSTAT AND SAID THEY DON'T DO TRANMISSIONS, MY DAD DROVE IT FINE HOME AND THEN THE NEXT DAY I DROVE IT TO LUNCH AND THAT IS WHEN IT GOT SCARY AND WE HAD TO PULL OVER TO THE CHURCH.
Spouse drove to Publix store 1.6 miles from our home. After shopping she started to drive home but van would not shift out of first gear putting her at risk trying to get home. There was no warning before Transmission failed. Contacted a highly respected repair shop, Brandon Transmission, to have it looked at. Upon arrival I was told this particular transmission has a high failure rate, they have rebuilt a lot of these units. I don’t recall the exact date but it would’ve been close to 11/18/2021
While driving home from shopping, vehicle lost power and started making a high-pitched whining noise. Engine was running fine but automatic transmission would not shift. This happened on road with speed limit of 50mph and I couldn't get the vehicle to go over 20mph. No warning lamps or messages appeared on the dash and there were no symptoms of any problem prior to this event, which happened on 4/4/2022. Vehicle was towed to local licensed repair shop. They have checked vehicle out and confirmed transmission needs to be replaced at only 79,000 miles!
On March 13th, 2022, we were driving from Cincinnati, Ohio to Florida on vacation in our 2016 Chrysler Town & Country van. We got off the exit in Macon, Georgia to eat dinner and once we got off the exit, the car would barely move. We had the car towed to Five Star Dodge Chrysler Jeep in Macon. They said it was a transmission problem. They took the transmission apart and found that the transmission pump was bad and destroyed the transmission. There is a safety recall #16V461000 for transmission pump failure for Town & Country's manufactured between July 31, 2015 and April 18, 2016. Our car was manufactured in November of 2015 which falls under the recall manufacturing dates. We called Chrysler customer service and they said that our Vin # was not part of the recall. They were unable to tell us why our car was not included and said that there was nothing they could do even though our car only has 62,572 miles and was always serviced at the Chrysler dealership. We were told that the transmission repair will cost up to $8,000 and will take a month to a month and a half to fix it. Even though our last three vehicles and been Chrysler Town & Country vans, we will never consider another Chrysler product again.
2016 Chrysler Town& Country 49,809 miles . Car made funny sound & engine light came on. It would not drive properly. Had towed to Dealership. Advised Transmission Pump Seized & needed complete transmission. Only 25,000 put on vehicle in 6 years since I purchased in 2016. Extended Warranty began a full year previous to purchase due to in service date. 5 yrs/60,000 power train warranty won’t cover . This is ridiculous. 2016 Chrysler Town & Country had a recall in effect on same year & vehicle, my vehicle being the lowest mileage & 22 pages on NHTSA.gov complaint website ALL SAY SAME THING : transmission pump failure & our VIN WASN’T in RECALL…! This is so ludicrous. I am not even due for transmission service yet (due at 60,000miles). I still have 49,819 on vehicle & dealership claims I need new Transmission. Chrysler said my vehicle they will not provide assistance. They said contact nhtsa.gov- I owe $10,000 on vehicle have low miles & Chrysler ducking out on me & 22 pages of people with same complaint. HELP PLEASE Chrysler Case [XXX] INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).”
We noticed a oil smell coming in through our vents, in our 2016 chrysler town and country my husband whom has worked in the automotive industry for several years opened the hood to check and sure enough there was oil all over the top of our engine leaking onto our driveway the part is sold as one unit so we had to buy the whole housing/oil cooling line and since we just moved into a new house my husband didnt want to perform the repair in our home garage or driveway, so $1017.31 later the van is fixed but my husband and many other technicians we know have said this is a common (expensive) issue for the housing and cooler lines Assembly on the 2014-present Chrysler town and country 3.6l dodge caravan 3.6l dodge avenger 3.6l and any of the mopar vehicles equipped with the top mounted catridge style oil filter mainly on the 3.6L engines. With this being such a common issue, why are consumers having to foot such an expensive repair on a seemingly faulty part. The part involved, the oil filter housing/oil cooler line assembly should be considered for recall.
The contact owns a 2016 Chrysler Town & Country. The contact stated that while driving approximately 45-50 MPH, the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact also stated that the headlights became significantly dim; additionally, the taillights failed to work as designed. The vehicle was taken to a Pep Boys to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the transmission failed and needed to be replaced. Then, the vehicle was taken to an independent transmission specialist who diagnosed that the transmission torque converter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the entire transmission needed to be replaced. The contact referenced NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V461000 (Power Train). The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that they would cover the labor for the transmission replacement. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 74,000.

Pump Failure in Transmission. Transmission Pump locked up and stalled vehicle in road locked up wheels
Transmission failing at 60,100 miles. Vehicle is loosing power when coming from a stop and cannot be placed into reverse without causing major issues when accelerating from a stop at intersection. contacted Chrysler customer care, they advised that they will not make any attempts to repair the issue
Driving home from work with vehicle behaving normally. I slowed down for traffic light and felt a hesitation when trying to accelerate. I was then unable to gain speed and was impeding traffic. The vehicle was inspected by a certified auto repair where they were unable to drive and had to push into garage. Diagnostic code for loss of hydraulic pump pressure, internal transmission failure. The transmission was replaced At that time.

While driving in traffic my transmission failed due to a pump failure in the transmission (diagnosed by a mechanic after the incident and having to be towed to a shop). The car stalled in the middle of an active intersection. My make and model and manufacture year was involved in a recall for this exact problem but for unknown reasons my VIN is not included. The car has been meticulously maintained and has less than 50,000 miles. The check engine light appeared immediately prior to the car losing power.
Likely transmission pump failure or torque converter failure. Mileage is approximately 69,000. This is the second failure with same symptoms. Transmission slips out of gear, whines, clicks. Whining goes away when placed in neutral. After transmission slipped check engine light came on, no prior indication this was going to occur. Safety jeopardized on this occassion as we were pulling out of driveway located on blind curve when transmission failed. No collision occurred, but no action could've been taken to avoid collision if a vehicle come around curve. Was towed to Moore Ford Hartford Kentucky where the first repair was made. There was a known recall on 2015-2016 chrysler town and country for this problem. Dates of Manufacture: JUL 30, 2015 to APR 17, 2016 Manufacturer Recall Number: S44 NHTSA Campaign ID: 16V461000 Unsure if this unit was included in recall, but with this being second failure during our ownership I believe it deserve attention.
The contact owns a 2016 Chrysler Town and Country. The contact stated that he noticed a fuel leak near the undercarriage of the center of the vehicle while it was running. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic who inspected and diagnosed the failure as a transmission leak near the rear and that a new transmission oil pump and converter needed to be installed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 145,000.

Transmission pump has faulted and no longer works. Has caused damage to the transmission. A private mechanic (not dealership) has confirmed this. Vehicle has 75k miles on it. No warning lamps. When the pump went out it cause erratic acceleration and poor take off from a stop. There is a previous recall for this year of vehicle, but for some reason my vehicle is not covered. For reference, please see recall S44. Manufacture date is Nov 2015.
On August 13, 2021, while driving at about 60 miles per hour, the vehicle lost power and power steering. Air conditioning continued to work. I was able to coast, move over to the right lane, place the transmission into neutral and restart the engine. I then placed the transmission back into drive, increased my speed and resumed my trip. This occurred previously on August 15, 2017, resulting in Complaint Number 11047478 being filed with your department.
My Town and Country had its transmission fail. An independent transmission shop and the dealership service department both agreed that it was the hydraulic pump which failed. according to Chrysler the vehicle does not fall under the recall associated with NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V461000, but the failure seems to be the exact same thing.
As I was driving about 45MPH my car dropped down to a lower gear. It stayed there until I pulled over and turned off the car. I started it back up and it was fine. It ran good for about two miles or so and did it again. I stopped into a Chy dealership and they said it was the solenoid in the transmission. They said they had problems with this on other town and country vans. My van only has 72000 miles on it.
My van only has 59,400 miles on it. We were on vacation stopped at a stoplight, when the light turned green, I stepped on the gas pedal, the engine would rev up and there was a high pitched sound, and then the van would jerk forward. The van exhibited difficulty with shifting. No warning lights came on before this incident, only after the van started to exhibit difficulty shifting. Codes noted: P0734-Gear Ratio Error in 4th P0868-Line Pressure Low P0745-Gear Ratio Error in 5th P083B-LC Pressure switch rationality P1790- Fault Immediately After Shift P0944-Loss of hydraulic Pump Prime I had to have my van towed to a Chrysler dealership they noted that the transmission fluid pump line pressure was only getting to 25 psi and loud whine from pump. Debris noted in the pan. Transmission was replaced with reman due to debris in the pan and replaced trans cooler and flushed transmission lines. Had I kept driving my van, it could have easily stalled in an intersection. If that would have happened, my family could have easily been hit by on-coming traffic. There is a recall S44 for 2016 Chrysler Town and Country Vans for this exact thing happening to the transmission. I do not understand why my van is not included in the recall. My van only has 59,400 miles, this should not happen.

I was on my way home to Georgia from Ohio when before I got to Asheville NC my car started making a funny noise and had been doing so for about 30 minutes and it was starting to have a hard time shifting. The check engine light did come on but I was trying to look for gas also because it was the week there was a gas shortage going on and I was less than a quarter of a tank when I started to look for gas and the vehicle started acting up. Manage to find gas and my dad who is 81 looked but could not really see anything and we managed to make it to the exit where we were suppose to meet my dad's cousin for dinner and meet him for the first time and my dad seeing him for the first time in over 53 years. I barely got it to the gas station and he came and got us and we went to eat. I called my husband and him and my sister drove about three hours to get us and my husband to look at the car. I had gotten a hotel room for us (my mom and dad, granddaugher and I). My husband looked at it and was researching it while on the way up to Asheville. He drove around the parking lot and then he attempted to drive it to the hotel which was on the other side of the interstate and not even a half mile away and we barely got there and said he can't drive it home. It was not even shifting manually into the gears . The next day he got a ride to Asheville and rented a uhaul truck with a tow dolly and towed it home and the next day he took it to the transmission shop where we need a rebuilt transmission ours is gone. It is still in the shop waiting to be fixed was told it would be 3 to 4 weeks. This Tuesday it will be 3 weeks 6.8.21. We will have documentation of it being fixed once we get it from the shop. I could have been on the interstate and it could have just stalled thus causing an accident and possibly someone being killed because there was no warning the check engine light went on when I noticed I was having a problem with the vehicle.
THE TRANSMISSION HYDRAULIC PUMP FAILED AND CAUSED COMPLETE FAILURE OF THE TRANS AT 105000 MILES. THE ROCKER ARMS FAILED AT 97000 MILES. THE FRONT LOWER AARM BUSHINGS FAILED AT ABOUT 60000 MILES. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND GAVE THE CODE FOR A LEAK THAT I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS SO SMALL IT DIDN'T MATTER. THEN IT GAVE A CODE OF 0740 SOLENOID TORQUE SO I REPLACED AND WITHIN 24 HOURS THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME BACK ON AND GAVE THE SAME CODE. IT IS EXTREMELY SCARY WHEN THE VAN IS SHAKING SO BAD AS YOU ARE DRIVING IN BUSY TRAFFIC. NOT SURE WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE. I'VE HAD THIS VAN LESS THAN 2 1/2 YEARS. VERY FRUSTRATED.

TRANSMISSION PUMP FRIED AND CAUSED THE TRANSMISSION TO NOT GET ENOUGH OXYGEN SO HAD TO GET A COMPLETELY NEW TRANSMISSION. THE VEHICLE IS ONLY 5 YEARS OLD.... SHOULDN'T BE HAVING TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS...

I COASTED INTO A PARKING LOT AND CALLED CALLED MY USUAL MECHANIC TO TOW THE VEHICLE INTO HIS SHOP. MY MECHANIC SAID HE THOUGHT IT WAS A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM AND WAS BEYOND HIS LEVEL OF REPAIR. HE TOWED THE VEHICLE TO SHIFTRIGHT TRANSMISSIONS. AT THE TRANSMISSION SHOP, THEY DISCOVERED THE TRANSMISSION PUMP ASSEMBLY WAS SHATTERED. THEY HAD TO PERFORM A COMPLETE TRANSMISSION OVERHAUL. I RETAINED THE PUMP ASSEMBLY AS PROOF OF THE DEFECT AND REPAIR. I BELIEVE THIS PROBLEM FALLS UNDER RECALL REFERENCE # 16V461000

I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY SCANNED THE CAR AND THE CODE CAME UP AS PUMP FAILURE IN THE TRANSMISSION. YET EVERY ONE IN THIS COMPLAINT FORUM FOR THIS SPECIFIC VEHICLE HAVE SAID THEY HAVE LOOKED ONLINE TO CHECK FOR RECALLS AND ONE OF THE RECALLS FOR THE 2016 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY IS A TRANSMISSION PUMP FAILURE. ARE OTHER WEBSITES THAT RUN VIN CHECKS GIVING OUT MISLEADING INFORMATION OR IS IT THAT MULTIPLE PEOPLE WITH THIS VEHICLE ARE ALL HAVING THE SAME ISSUE WITH THERE CAR STALLING OUT AND LOSING MOTIVE POWER. THE NHTSA SHOULD BE TAKING THIS MATTER SERIOUSLY. YOU SAY RIGHT ON YOUR WEBSITE THAT THIS STUFF FUELS YOU. START FUELING AWAY UNTIL SOME ONE GETS INJURED OR DIES BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE. CHECK OUT VEHICLEHISTORY.COM THIS YEAR MODEL AND MAKE. IT SHOWS IT RIGHT ON THERE THE RECALL THAT EVERY ONE OF US SEEMS TO BE HAVING IN THIS COMPLAINT FORUM. MY VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED AT A CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP AND I'VE ONLY HAD IT FOR 2 YEARS. I HAVE MAINTAINED IT WELL AND HAD ALL SERVICES PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE SINCE I'VE HAD IT. I WAS TRAVELING WESTBOUND ON THE PA TURNPIKE, GOING UP A HILL AT 70 MPH WITH CRUISE CONTROL ON WHEN MY VEHICLE SUDDENLY BEGAN LOSING ACCELERATION AND WOULDN'T SHIFT GEARS. THE RPM GAGE WAS GOING VERY HIGH. I QUICKLY DISABLED THE CRUISE CONTROL AND PULLED OVER ONTO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD, NOT AN EASY FEAT IN THE MIDST OF HEAVY TURNPIKE TRAFFIC (I AM THANKFUL THAT I WAS NOT HIT BY A TRACTOR TRAILER). I PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK AND PUT ON MY EMERGENCY FLASHERS. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. AFTER CALLING MY HUSBAND ON THE PHONE, I TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE AND CALLED INTERSTATE EMERGENCY TOWING TO TAKE ME TO THE NEAREST CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP ABOUT 20 MILES AWAY. THE EMPLOYEE AT THE DEALERSHIP NOTED THAT THERE HAD BEEN A TRANSMISSION-RELATED RECALL ON 2016 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY MINIVANS THAT WERE MANUFACTURED DURING SPECIFIC MONTHS AND THAT MY MINIVAN FELL WITHIN THE SPECIFIED TIMEFRAME. HOWEVER, AT A LATER DATE I WAS TOLD THAT MY MINIVAN VIN WAS NOT A PART OF THE RECALL, EVEN THOUGH THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT DETERMINED THAT THERE WAS AN ISSUE WITH THE TRANSMISSION PUMP WHICH CAUSED A LOSS OF POWER (PART OF THE INITIAL RECALL PROBLEM). PLEASE SEE THE INITIAL ESTIMATE THAT IS ATTACHED. THEY ORDERED A NEW TRANSMISSION PUMP, WHICH WE HAD TO WAIT ALMOST A WEEK TO COME IN. THE DAY THAT THE TRANSMISSION PUMP ARRIVED, MY HUSBAND ASKED THEM TO EMAIL HIM THE ESTIMATE SO THAT HE COULD SHOW CHRYSLER THAT OUR VAN HAD THE SAME ISSUE AS THE INITIAL RECALL. ONCE THE DEALERSHIP LEARNED THAT WE WERE CONTESTING THE RECALL, THEY CLAIMED THAT THEY DID NOT HAVE TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION PUMP AFTER ALL . WHEN WE WENT TO PICK UP THE VAN, THEY SAID THAT THEY ONLY HAD TO REPLACE THE TORQUE CONVERTER (SEE FINAL INVOICE ATTACHED). WE THINK THAT THEY ARE TRYING TO COVER UP THE FACT THAT OUR VAN SHOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED AND FIXED UNDER THE RECALL, AND/OR THEY DO NOT WANT THE RECALL EXPANDED.

I WAS PICKING MY DAUGHTER UP FROM SOFTBALL PRACTICE WHEN MY VEHICLE STOPPED SHIFTING ON THE HIGHWAY. WE WERE AT A STOP LIGHT AND PUSHING THE GAS PRACTICALLY DID NOTHING. THE VEHICLE WOULDN'T MOVE. ONCE IT DID MOVE SLOWLY IT WOULDN'T SHIFT. MY RPMS WENT UP TO 5 AT ONE POINT. MY HUSBAND TRIED TO DRIVE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP BUT ONLY MADE IT ABOUT 2 MILES FROM OUR HOUSE BEFORE WE'R HAD TO CALL A TOW TRUCK. I HAVE A 2016 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY WITH LESS THAN 70K MILES. I CALLED CHRYSLER AFTER DISCOVERING THIS WAS ACTUALLY A RECALL ISSUE. ODDLY ENOUGH MY VIN WAS SUPPOSEDLY NOT AFFECTED, HOWEVER, MY $4000 TRANSMISSION REBUILD RECEIPT SAYS DIFFERENTLY. OF COURSE CHRYSLER ALSO SAID MY WARRANTY DIDN'T COVER THIS ISSUE.

VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN NORMALLY. CAME TO STOP SIGN AT INTERSECTION WITH HIGHWAY. AS IT WAS COMING TO A STOP, THE TRANSMISSION DIDN'T SEEM TO WANT TO DOWNSHIFT WITH THE SLOWING SPEED. ENGINE SPEED SLOWED TO BELOW IDLE, AND TRANSMISSION CLUNKED (AND SEEMED TO DROP COMPLETELY OUT OF GEAR). AS TRAFFIC CLEARED AND THE ACCELERATOR WAS PRESSED, THE VEHICLE WOULDN'T MOVE AT ALL (FORWARDS OR REVERSE). HAD TO WAVE LOTS OF OTHER DRIVERS PAST. THANKFULLY IT WAS ALREADY STOPPED, OR THE OUTCOME COULD HAVE BEEN LOTS WORSE. DEALERSHIP STATED "TRANSMISSION WAS SLIPPING AND SURGING. FLUID WAS OK. PUMP PRESSURE WAS LOW, AND TORQUE HAD A SHUDDER. BOUGHT 2016 CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY VAN AT HILLSBORO CHRYLSER JEEP IN NH 4/12/17 -ODOMETER READING 19,152. BROUGHT VAN BACK 9/24/18 DUE TO SHIFTING ABNORMALITIES & RUMBLE STRIP TYPE ISSUE WHEN DRIVING WITH JUST OVER 41,000 MILES. CHRIS WEARE SAID DIAGNOSTICS DIDN'T SHOW THE PROBLEM BUT THEY DID A SOFTWARE UPGRADE TO CORRECT IT. WE LEFT & CAME BACK - THE ISSUE REAPPEARED IN FRONT OF DEALERSHIP. WE TOLD CHRIS W ISSUE WAS UNRESOLVED. CHRIS SAID DRIVE IT 100 MILES FOR THE VEHICLE TO RE-LEARN CORRECT SHIFTING PATTERN. DROVE 100+ MILES & IT STILL LURCHES FORWARD WHEN SHIFTING - ESP AROUND 40 MPH, WITH 2-1/4 RPMS, THEN IT FLIES OVER 3 RPMS & QUICKLY DROPS TO 1K RPM. IT HAPPENS AT OTHER SPEEDS BUT NOT AS OFTEN. ALSO ENGINE REVS AND RECEDES SEVERAL TIMES CLIMBING HILLS. 10/1/18 7:30 APPT AT HILLSBORO CHRYSLER TO RE-CHECK RUMBLE STRIP EFFECT & SHIFTING ISSUE AFTER DRIVING 100+ MILES SINCE LAST VISIT. SAW CHRIS W & GOT LOANER VEHICLE. RETURNED 2 HOURS LATER & WAS TOLD THEY DID A SOFTWARE RESET, & THE VAN NEEDED TO RE-LEARN OUR DRIVING HABITS, & TO DRIVE IT ANOTHER 200 MILES & THE PROBLEM SHOULD RESOLVE. WE WEREN'T ASKED TO SIGN PAPERWORK DURING EXCEPT FOR THE LOANER CAR. MILEAGE WAS 41,562. 10/4/18 - CALLED HILLSBORO CHRYSLER. SPOKE WITH CHRIS W - PROBLEM HASN'T RESOLVED & WE'VE DRIVEN 200+ MILES. DURING THIS PHONE CONVERSATION, CHRIS SAID THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO BECAUSE NO ERROR MESSAGES COME UP WHEN THEY HOOK IT UP TO THE COMPUTER - SAID THEIR COMPUTER IS NOT DETECTING ANY PROBLEMS AND HE SAID TO CONTINUE TO DRIVE IT TILL LIGHTS COME ON OR ENGINE FAILS. HE SAID IF THAT HAPPENS, CALL CHRYSLER FOR TOWING, AS IT IS COVERED UNDER THE DRIVE TRAIN WARRANTY. VAN HAS 41,871 MILES ON IT & CONTINUES TO SHIFT ROUGHLY & REV & RECEDE MANY TIMES GOING UPHILL, & THERE ARE STILL MANY TIMES WHEN IT FEELS LIKE WE ARE DRIVING ON RUMBLE STRIPS.

I HAVE A 2016 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY CHRYSLER. AS I WAS DRIVING MY VEHICLE GOING ABOUT 50MPH, ON SEPT. 3, 2018, ON THE FEEDER ROAD ALONGSIDE THE FREEWAY, MY VAN STARTED TO SLOW DOWN AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. THERE WAS A LOUD WHINING NOISE COMING FROM THE VAN AND IT WOULD NOT SPEED UP WHEN I WOULD PRESS THE GAS. I WAS ABLE TO TURN ON TO THE STREET OF MY RESIDENCE BECAUSE I WAS NOT FAR. I HAD TO PUT ON MY HAZARD LIGHTS TO MAKE IT HOME ONLY GOING ABOUT 3-5MPH. THIS WAS VERY SCARY FOR ME BECAUSE MY SON WAS IN THE CAR AND OTHER CARS WERE ALMOST ABOUT TO HIT ME FROM BEHIND. I ONLY HAVE 69044 MILES ON THE VAN AND I MAINTAIN MY ROUTINE MAINTENANCE ON THE VAN THROUGH THE DEALERSHIP I PURCHASED IT FROM. THE TECH SAID THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS THIRSTY FOR FLUID IN THE GEARS AND IT HAD BURNED UP ON THE INSIDE. HE SAID THAT THERE WAS NO TRAUMA OR DAMAGE TO THE TRANSMISSION AND NO LEAK FOUND. MY VAN SHOULD'VE BEEN ADDED TO THE RECALL LIST BECAUSE IT WAS MANUFACTURED IN NOVEMBER 2015 WHICH FALLS IN THE TIME FRAME AS THE VANS THAT MADE THE RECALL LIST AND MY COMPLAINT IS IDENTICAL TO THE RECALL (NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER:16V461000)ISSUED ON JUNE 24, 2016. I TOOK VERY GOOD CARE OF MY VAN AND MADE SURE ALL MAINTENANCE SCHEDULES WERE KEPT. THIS IS A 3700.00 PROBLEM THAT I DO NOT HAVE MONEY TO PAY. THIS IS NOT FROM NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR NOR IS IT FROM NEGLECT. THIS IS A RESULT OF A MANUFACTURING DEFECT OR ERROR. PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS CONCERN AS I KNOW I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS SAME PROBLEM.
