TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 DODGE AVENGER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BLOWER MOTOR FAN SWITCH MEDIUM AND LOW FUNCTIONS FAILED TO ACTIVATE. THE REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED BY THE CONTACT AND HE REPLACED THE BLOWER MOTOR SWITCH RELAY. THE CONTACT HAD MENTIONED THAT PRIOR TO THE RECENT FAILURE, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE ENGINE COOLING FLUSHING WAS PERFORMED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN THE REPAIR SHOP FOR THE SAME ISSUE OVER FOUR TIMES WITHIN THE PAST TWO YEARS. THE FIRST COMPLAINT ON 2/19/13. THE MALFUNCTION IS WITH THE VEHICLE HEATING SYSTEM. THE FIRST HEATER CORE WAS REPLACED ON 1/20/14, THE SECOND HEATER CORE ON 2/27/14, THE THIRD HEATER CORE ON 4/18/14, AND THE FOURTH ON 11/12/14. THE VEHICLE LOSES HEAT. THERE HAVE BEEN SPECIAL FILTERS INSTALLED IN MY VEHICLE AS WELL, TRYING TO RESOLVE ANY ISSUE BEFORE IT REACHES THE HEATER CORE, THIS ATTEMPT HAS FAILED AS WELL. AFTER TAKING IT TO MEINEKE AND SPENDING $50 FOR A DIAGNOSIS THEY TOLD ME I HAD TO GO TO DODGE BECAUSE I HAD ERRORS P2004 AND P2017 THAT NEEDED TO BE HANDLED BY DODGE DIRECTLY. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH ONLINE ALL DODGE AVENGERS BUILT THROUGH MARCH 22, 2007 REQUIRED A NEW INTAKE MANIFOLD (PART NUMBER 04884495AF) BECAUSE VALUES WERE GETTING STUCK OPEN. I TOOK MY CAR INTO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY TELL ME IT WILL BE $940 BECAUSE THEY WILL NEED TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE INTAKE MANIFOLD AND REPROGRAM MY CAR. WHEN I CALLED CHRYSLER CUSTOMER SERVICE THEY TOLD ME SINCE MY CAR WAS BUILT IN JUNE 2007 I WOULDN'T QUALIFY FOR THE WARRANTY EVEN IF MY CAR HAD LESS THAN 80,000 MILES. I DID TONS OF RESEARCH ONLINE AND EVERY POST THAT I HAVE READ ABOUT 2008 DODGE AVENGERS WITH P2004 AND P2017 CODES MUST PAY ABOUT $1,000 TO GET THE INTAKE MANIFOLD REPLACED AND REPROGRAM THE CAR. THIS IS THE 1ST DODGE I HAVE EVER PURCHASED AND WILL DEFINITELY BE MY LAST! IF EVERYONE THAT BUYS THIS CAR IS HAVING TO REPLACE THAT INTAKE MANIFOLD ANYWHERE BETWEEN 15,000 MILES AND 110,000 MILES DODGE SHOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS. ALL OF A SUDDEN IT STARTED HAVING A VERY LOUD NOISE (LIKE A DIESEL TRUCK) AND WOULDN'T LET ME GO OVER 25 MILES WITHOUT IT GETTING LOUDER. THEN I WENT TO TURN LEFT TO PULL OVER AND ALL THE LIGHTS CAME ON, WENT OFF THE HEAT WENT FROM H TO C AND CAR STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP AND CAR DIED.. I WOULDN'T NOT TURN OVER TILL 30 MINS LATER.. THE LAST EPISODE OCCURRED TODAY ON MY MORNING COMMUTE TO WORK - 04/04/2012, APPROXIMATELY 0725. THE ERROR CODE WILL FLASH AND IT BECOMES MORE DIFFICULT TO ACCELERATE. WHEN I TAKE MY FOOT OFF OF THE GAS PEDAL TO DECELERATE, THE CAR WILL 'JERK'. SO FAR, I HAVE BEEN FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO CONTINUE DRIVING THE VEHICLE UNTIL I CAN FIND A PLACE TO PULL OVER. USUALLY, I CAN TURN THE CAR OFF THEN BACK ON AND THE ERROR CODE DISAPPEARS. THE CAR WILL DRIVE NORMALLY. I AM NOW EXPERIENCING THESE ISSUES 3-4 TIMES PER WEEK. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE FROM A USED CAR LOT A YEAR AND A HALF AGO. FROM THE VERY FIRST DAY I PURCHASED THE CAR, I HAD PROBLEMS WHICH ARE RECORDED WITH THE PLACE OF PURCHASE. SOON AFTER THAT THE ALARM SYSTEM, HORN ,AND DOOR LOCKING SYSTEM. THERE AFTER "A PIN" IN WHICH HOLDS THE GEAR IN PLACE WENT OUT AND WOULD NOT OPERATE. THE NEXT THING THAT WENT OUT WAS THE ENTIRE AIR CONDITIONING AND HEATING SYSTEM. ON OR AROUND APRIL 12 THERE WAS A WHAT LOOKED LIKE A SPARK NEAR THE AIR CONDITIONING PANEL. WHEN I REMOVED THE PANEL, THERE WAS EVIDENCE THAT THERE WAS A SMALL SPARK OR FIRE THAT ACTUALLY MELTED A SWITCH ON THE COOLING AND HEATING ELEMENTS. IT HAS YET TO WORK SINCE THEN. TODAY THE 11/29/11 MY CAR COMPLETELY STALLED WHILE I WAS TURNING INTO A VERY DANGEROUS INTERSECTION. THIS CAR IS A TOTAL DEATH TRAP WAITING TO HAPPEN. UNFORTUNATELY I AM A SINGLE MOTHER OF 3 CHILDREN WITH VERY LITTLE OPTIONS FINANCIALLY TO DO OTHERWISE. I HAVE ATTEMPTED SEVERAL TIMES TO SCHEDULE RECALLS TO BE FIXED BY THE DODGE DEALER AND THEY HAVE NOT BEEN HELPFUL AT ALL. I TOLD THE SERVICE TECH ALL THE SYMPTOMS THE CAR WAS HAVING SO HE COULD PROPERLY DIAGNOSE MY CAR. HE TOLD ME I WOULD HAVE TO PAY $95 TO HAVE A DIAGNOSTIC ON MY CAR. AFTER THEY TESTED MY VEHICLE I WAS TOLD IT WAS A SMALL "$35" PROBLEM THAT COULD BE FIXED BY REPLACING THE RADIATOR CAP. I PAID THEM FOR THE REPLACEMENT THINKING THIS WOULD SOLVE THE PROBLEM. THE VERY SAME DAY THE CAR WAS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS SO I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP TO INFORM THEM. THEY TOLD ME IT WAS A "BUBBLE IN THE SYSTEM THE NEEDED TO WORK ITSELF OUT" AND THE CAR SHOULD BE FINE, DRIVE IT AND CALL ME IN THE MORNING IF YOUR HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM". I TOOK THEIR EXPERT ADVICE BUT THE CAR DID NOT IMPROVE SO I TOOK IT BACK TO BOB CALDWELL CHRYSLER. THEY TOLD ME THEY WOULD RUN THE TESTS AGAIN ON MY CAR. WHEN I WENT BACK THEY TOLD ME "THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH YOU CAR IT PASS ALL THE TEST". THEY EVEN STATED I WOULD NOT TELL YOU TO PICK UP YOUR CAR IF I FELT SOMETHING WAS WRONG OR IT WOULD DAMAGE YOUR CAR MORE( I LET HIM KNOW I HAD THIS CONCERN) OR IF THERE WAS SOMETHING WRONG, COME PICK UP YOUR CAR". I WENT BACK TO GET IT ON THE WAY HOME FROM WORK THE CAR WOULD NOT PICK UP SPEED, THERE IS THICK WHITE SMOKE FROM THE FRONT AND BACK THE OVERFLOW CONTAINER UNDER THE HOOD SWELL UP FROM THE PRESSURE LOOKING LIKE IT WAS ABOUT TO BURST. I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY I COULD HAVE KILLED MYSELF.

I HAD JUST ABOUT MADE IT TO THE EXIT RAMP WHEN I REALIZED BY LOOKING IN THE REARVIEW MIRROR THAT THERE WAS SMOKE COMING FROM MY CAR. THE FIRE CONTINUE TO BURN AND HAD BECOME VERY BAD, TO THE POINT WHERE THE ENTIRE FRONT HALF OF THE CAR WAS ABLAZE. THE ONLY THING THAT STOPPED THE OUT OF CONTROL VEHICLE WAS A WIRE FENCE IN THE DIVIDER BETWEEN THE SERVICE ROAD AND MAIN HIGHWAY. THE INSURANCE COMPANY AND MANUFACTURER ARE CURRENTLY IN THE PROCESS OF INVESTIGATING. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT TOOK AT LEAST 15-20 MINS TO RESPOND WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO BECOME SEVERELY DAMAGED TO THE POINT WHERE IT IS NOW EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO ASCERTAIN A CAUSE. I CONTACTED CHRYSLER DODGE RECALL LINE AND WAS INFORMED UNTIL YOUR OFFICE INVESTIGATE THESE ISSUES MY CAR AND OTHERS LIKE ME WILL HAVE TO DISH OUT HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS OR DRIVE UNSAFE. I WAS EVEN MORE SHOCKED TO HEAR THIS STUPID PROCESS WHEN THE COMPANY IS AWARE THERE IS A BIG PROBLEM. I THEN PULLED OUT OF LINE TO SEE WHERE THE SMOKE WAS COMING FROM. AFTER TURNING THE VEHICLE OFF. SMOKE THEN BEGAN TO INTENSIFY AND SPARKS SHOOTING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. TOOK TO ANOTHER DEALER WHICH HEARD THE NOISE, KEPT THE CAR TO INSPECT AND REPAIR STATING THEY THOUGHT THEY KNEW WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS. CAR WASN'T FIXED I COMPLAINED BECAUSE THE SECOND DEALER ADMITTED TO SPEAKING WITH THE FIRST DEALER THUS THE CAR WASN'T FIXED. THEY LIED TO ME AND TOLD ME IT WAS A FEDERALLY REGULATED EMISSIONS SYSTEM THAT MADE THE CAR SOUND THAT WAY. DEALER #1 OFFERED TO SET UP AN APPOINTMENT WITH A CHRYSLER REP. THEN HE CALLED BACK AND STATED THAT THE REP WOULDN'T BE LOCAL FOR 4-6 WEEKS. THE REP CALLED ME AND BASICALLY STATED THAT IT SOUNDED LIKE I JUST DIDN'T LIKE THE CAR. THE DEALER WOULD NOT TAKE THE CAR BACK, AND WERE RUDE ABOUT REPAIRS. I NEVER SAW THE REP. NOW THE CAR IS MAKING A RUBBING NOISE IN THE STEERING COLUMN AND THE POWER STEERING PUMP SOUNDS LIKE IT IS GOING OUT. I HAVE DONE EVERYTHING TO TRY TO REPLACE THE CAR BUT THE DEALERS HAVE PUT ME OFF SO LONG WITHOUT REPAIRS THAT I AM STUCK WITH THE CAR. LESS THAN 6 MONTHS AFTER I OWNED THE CAR I BEGAN SEEING COMMERCIALS FOR THE CAR ONLY THE PRICE WAS MORE THAN $5,000 LESS THAN WHAT I WAS CHARGED. SOMETIMES I HAVE TO ATTEMPT STARTING THE VEHICLE THREE TIMES. THE CD PLAYER DOES NOT WORK, IT OVER HEATS AND WILL BURN YOUR HAND IF YOU TOUCH THE DIGITAL DISPLAY. I HAVE HAD FRIENDS IN THE COMMUNITY TO CALL ME AND TELL ME THAT MY CAR SOUNDED AWFUL WHEN THEY SAW ME IN TOWN. ADDITIONALLY I AM PAYING 430 A MONTH FOR THE PAYMENT WHEN THE GIRL ACROSS THE ROAD IS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS WITH HER NEW AVENGER YET SHE ONLY PAYS 279 A MONTH AT 11% INTEREST. YES, THIS CAR GETS GOOD HIGHWAY GAS MILEAGE BUT IT HAS CAUSED NOTHING BUT HEADACHES BEYOND THAT POINT. IF I DRIVE AROUND TOWN IT SUCKS THE GAS LIKE NO TOMORROW. THE RPM'S ARE WAY TO HIGH. THE CAR SHIFTS AROUND 3,000 OR HIGHER RPM'S WHETHER IT IS WARM OR COLD. WHEN THE SHIFTS, IT IS NOT SMOOTH. THERE HARD SHIFTS. MY FIANCE'S 1999 DURANGO WITH 135,000 MILES ON IT SHIFTS BETTER THAN THIS CAR DOES. RANDOMLY THE CAR WILL DIE WHEN I COME TO A COMPLETE STOP FOR A STOP LIGHT/SIGN. THERE WAS ONE OCCASION WHERE I WAS DRIVING DOWN ONE OF THE BUSIEST ROADS IN OUR TOWN AND IT DIED WHILE I WAS DOING ABOUT 40MPH. BEFORE IT DIES, IT SHAKES REAL BAD FOR ABOUT 3 SECONDS THEN I LOSE EVERYTHING. THE DRIVERS SIDE REAR DOOR HANDLE WILL NOT MOVE. IT IS LIKE IT IS FROZEN IN PLACE. THE HANDLE WILL NOT PULL OUT AT ALL. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE TRANSMISSION ENGAGES IN AN AUTOMATIC NEUTRAL DROP. THE ENGINE RACES ABOVE 5,000 RPMS, WHICH IS NOT RECOMMENDED. THE FAILURE HAS OCCURRED TWICE. THE TRANSMISSION ALSO JUMPED INTO REVERSE WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN AT THE DEALER FOUR TIMES FOR THE TRANSMISSION. THE DEALER CALLED THE CONTACT AND STATED THAT THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE TRANSMISSION, HOWEVER, THEY DO ACKNOWLEDGE THE FAILURE. THE TRANSMISSION FAILURE BEGAN IN APRIL OF 2007 AND HAS CONTINUED EVER SINCE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 2,500 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 7. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED, THERE WERE BROKEN BOLTS AND STUDS. THE SHIFTER WOULD NOT RETURN TO PARK. THE ROCKER ARMS, VALVE COVER, LIFTERS AND HEADS WERE REPLACED IN THE ENGINE.
