The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start up after multiple attempts. The contact had taken the vehicle to a dealer and the contact was informed that the failure was related to the key. The key was replaced; however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000.

Hi my name is [XXX] and I’m 28 years old and a full time single mom of 2 girls 24/7 and in February I bought a 2008 Dodge Avenger 2.7 and the day I drove it home the check engine light came on and well long story short there it took them a month to “fix” the issue and 3 days later after getting my car back after NOT having it for a month the check engine light came on again…needless to say here it is almost September 7 months later and there has many endless problems and the car dealership will not return my phone calls or texts or emails about my car and wanting to trade it in for another one on there lot !!! WITH THE SHIFT LEVER I WAS SENT BY CHRYSLER A NOTICE TO CARRY OUT A REVISION, I DID IT AND TODAY AFTER 2 YEARS BEING IN A STREET STOPPED AND TRYING TO MAKE THE CHANGE TO DRIVE I COULD NEVER MOVE IT I JUST GOT STUCK AND COULD NOT DRIVE MORE. ALSO, THE VEHICLE WAS INADVERTENTLY GOING INTO LIMP MODE, WHICH INCREASED THE RISK OF A POTENTIAL CRASH AS THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE. AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC INSPECTED THE VEHICLE. AFTERWARDS, THE SAME DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THAT THEY WERE NOT REQUIRED TO SERVICE THE VEHICLE BECAUSE THE RECALL REMEDY WAS PROVIDED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE WIRING HARNESS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AS WELL AS THE CORRODED WIRES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED THAT THE REMEDY FAILED FOR THE RECALL. HAD TO APPLY BRAKES AND TURN ON CAUTION LIGHTS AND PULL OVER. ENGINE SEEMED AS THO IT WAS GOING TO BLOW UP. VERY SCARY. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION IT SEEMS AS THO DODGE/CHRYSLER RUSHED PRODUCTION OF THE INTAKE COMPONENTS TO GET CARS TO SHOW ROOM IN ALL 08 WITH THESE INTAKES. CHRYSLER LATER FIXED THE PROBLEM IN ALL FUTURE VEHICLES. PROBLEM LIES IN CHEAP COMPONENTS IN THE RUNNER FLAP ASSEMBLY ON THE INTAKE MANIFOLD. PROBLEM THROWS CODE P2008 AND CODE P2017. FLAP STICKS OPEN AND INCREASES HORSEPOWER WITHOUT INTENT OF DRIVER. CHRYSLER KNOWS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM BECAUSE THEY FUXED IT IN FUTURE CARS. I AM SURE ALL OF THESE CARS HAVE THIS FAULTY COMPONENT AND THEREFORE; DEPENDING ON HOW AND WHERE IT FAILS IT CAN BE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS.

DON'T MATTER WHETHER I AM DRIVING STRAIGHT OR TURNING. THIS VEHICLE WILL STALL IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. YET STALL RIGHT BACK UP. ALL STARTED AFTER THE TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING LIGHT CAME ON. THE PART IS EITHER DEFECTIVE FROM EVERY SOURCE, THE CAR IS CAUSING THE ISSUE, OR THE COMPUTER ISN'T FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. THIS HAS COST ME THOUSANDS AND LEFT ME WITHOUT A VEHICLE FOR OVER A YEAR. THE HORN STARTS AND WON'T GO OFF UNTIL AFTER ABOUT 5 MINUTES NO MATTER WHAT WE DO. WE HAVE TRY TURNING IT OF WITH OUR KEY ALARM, TURNING THE CAR ON AND OFF, UNLOCKING THE DOORS BUT NOTHING SEEMS TO WORK. YESTERDAY WE WERE DRIVING OUR CAR AND THE CAR STALL AND WE WERE LUCKING TO BE ABLE TO PULL TO THE SIDE SAFETLY SINCE WE WERE COMING TO A STOP. AFTER A COUPLE ATTEMPTS, WE GOT THE CAR BACK ON AND RUNNING. I HAVE SEARCH THIS PROBLEM AND I FOUND THAT IT COULD BE THE TPMS. AS TO WHAT WE HAVE EXPERIENCE WITH THE CAR LATELY, WE ARE ALMOST SURE IT IS THIS. WE CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP AND WE WERE TOLD THAT THIS RECALL WAS PERFORM BACK IN APRIL OF 2008 AND ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANYTHING THE CAR IS GOING THROUGH NOW AND WILL NOT REPLACE THE PART FOR US AGAIN. CAN YOU PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF THE DEALERSHIP IS REQUIRED TO SWITCH THIS PART FOR US AGAIN SINCE OUR CAR IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE OR IF WE WOULD HAVE TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM.

THE CAR THEN WOULDN'T START 7 THE GEARS WOULD NOT CHANGE. LOOKED ONLINE, SEEN THERE WAS A COMMON ISSUE WITH THE PINK PLASTIC PIECE CONNECTED TO THE GEAR. PUSHED THE PINK PLASTIC PIECE IN & IT ALLOWED ME TO SWITCH GEARS WHEN IT WAS HELD IN BUT I AM STILL UNABLE TO CRANK MY CAR & EVEN WHEN THE GEARS ARE SWITCHED THE DASHBOARD SAYS THE CAR IS STILL IN REVERSE. LOOKED UP RECALLS & SURE ENOUGH THERE IS A RECALL BUT OF COURSE WHEN I ENTERED MY CAR INFORMATION IT DOESN'T APPLY TO MY CAR. I ALSO HAVE REPLACED THE ALTERNATOR 4 TIMES IN 3 YEARS. I WAS TOLD THAT IT IS A POOR DESIGN THAT CAUSES THE ALTERNATOR TO WEAR DOWN & LOCK UP SO QUICKLY. I WILL EVER BUY ANOTHER CHRYSTLER DODGE VEHICLE IN MY LIFE. ACCORDING TO DODGE DEALERSHIP THE PART IS ON BACK ORDER WITH NO ETA ON SHIPPING. WAS ALSO TOLD THERE ARE OVER 200 ORDERS WAITING TO BE FILLED, PEOPLE ARE WAITING 4 MONTHS TO RECEIVE THE PART. MY CAR HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP NOW FOR ALMOST 3 WEEKS. THE DEALERSHIP MY MECHANIC CALLED DIDN'T INFORM THEM OF THE BACK ORDER, WE WERE TOLD BY ANOTHER DEALERSHIP WHEN TRYING TO FIND THE PART ELSEWHERE.

WHEN THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER GOT TO MY HOUSE HE INFORMED ME THAT I WAS THE 3RD DODGE AVENGER IN THE LAST WEEK THAT HE HAD TO TOW TO A GARAGE BECAUSE THE GEAR SHIFT WAS STUCK IN PARK. I OWN A 2008 DODGE AVENGER AND EVERYTHING HAS BEEN SOOO GREAT UNTIL TWO WEEKS AGO I STARTED MY CAR AND WHEN I TRIED TO SHIFT INTO REVERSE IT WOULD NOT BUDGE. AFTER SEARCHING THE PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET I FOUND A TEMPORARY SOLUTION, THE USE OF A BUTTER KNIFE TO MOVE THE HOT PINK LEVER UNDER SHIFTER WHICH INTURN RELEASES GEAR FROM PARK. SO IN ORDER TO DRIVE MY VEHICLE I MUST USE THE BUTTER KNIFE TO RELEASE FROM PARK...........EVERYTIME!! I CONTACTED MY LOCAL DODGE DEALER AND THEY STATED THEY HAD NOT SEEN ANY PROBLEMS LIKE I EXPLAINED. I ORDERED(FROM THE DEALERSHIP) A SHIFT ASSEMBLY WHICH IS $50.00 + TAX. MY WIFE, MY MOTHER-IN-LAW, AND I ALL DROVE MY CAR ON FRIDAY WITH NO ISSUES. THE NEXT TIME I TRIED TO DRIVE MY CAR ON SATURDAY, I COULD NOT SHIFT MY CAR OUT OF PARK. MY CAR IS A 2008 DODGE AVENGER. WE TRIED SEVERAL TIMES, MAKING SURE THE STEERING WHEEL WASN'T LOCKED, THE BRAKES WERE PRESSED WHEN ATTEMPTING TO MOVE OUT OF PARK, CHECKED THE TRANSMISSION FLUID AND CHECKED ANYTHING ELSE WE THOUGHT MIGHT CAUSE THE ISSUE. AFTER ALL THAT FAILED, I RESEARCHED A LITTLE ONLINE AND FOUND A FORUM ON CUSTOMERCOMPLAINT.COM WHERE SEVERAL OWNERS OF THE SAME VEHICLE TYPE HAD THE SAME ISSUE. APPARENTLY THERE IS A VERY SMALL, PINK PLASTIC HOOK IN THE SHIFTING ASSEMBLY THAT ALLOWS THE SHIFTER TO MOVE OUT OF PARK. NOT SURPRISINGLY CONSIDERING HOW SMALL IT IS, THIS HOOK BREAKS, PREVENTING THE CAR FROM SHIFTING. ON THE FORUM, MULTIPLE PEOPLE COMPLAINED THAT THE DEALERSHIPS WERE TELLING THEM THIS WASN'T COVERED ON WARRANTY. MY WARRANTY WAS UP, SO I USED A SUGGESTION FROM THE FORUM TO USE A COMPRESSION SPRING TO HOLD THE PINK ASSEMBLY IN PLACE ONCE THE HOOK BREAKS. NOT AN IDEAL FIX, BUT IT WORKS AND ONLY COST ME A COUPLE OF DOLLARS FOR THE SPRING INSTEAD OF THE 100-300 DOLLARS INVOLVED IN TOWING AND HAVING THE DEALERSHIP LOOK AT IT THAT OTHERS ON THAT FORUM WENT THROUGH. *TR

I PURCHASED A 2008 DODGE AVENGER LAST APRIL, BRAND NEW. A FEW DAYS AFTER I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE I BEGAN HEARING A TAPPING NOISE IN THE ENGINE SOUNDS LIKE KNOCKING (BAD GAS OR ROD). DEALER CLAIMS TO NOT HEAR ANYTHING. TOOK TO ANOTHER DEALER WHICH HEARD THE NOISE, KEPT THE CAR TO INSPECT AND REPAIR STATING THEY THOUGHT THEY KNEW WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS. CAR WASN'T FIXED I COMPLAINED BECAUSE THE SECOND DEALER ADMITTED TO SPEAKING WITH THE FIRST DEALER THUS THE CAR WASN'T FIXED. THEY LIED TO ME AND TOLD ME IT WAS A FEDERALLY REGULATED EMISSIONS SYSTEM THAT MADE THE CAR SOUND THAT WAY. DEALER #1 OFFERED TO SET UP AN APPOINTMENT WITH A CHRYSLER REP. THEN HE CALLED BACK AND STATED THAT THE REP WOULDN'T BE LOCAL FOR 4-6 WEEKS. THE REP CALLED ME AND BASICALLY STATED THAT IT SOUNDED LIKE I JUST DIDN'T LIKE THE CAR. THE DEALER WOULD NOT TAKE THE CAR BACK, AND WERE RUDE ABOUT REPAIRS. I NEVER SAW THE REP. NOW THE CAR IS MAKING A RUBBING NOISE IN THE STEERING COLUMN AND THE POWER STEERING PUMP SOUNDS LIKE IT IS GOING OUT. I HAVE DONE EVERYTHING TO TRY TO REPLACE THE CAR BUT THE DEALERS HAVE PUT ME OFF SO LONG WITHOUT REPAIRS THAT I AM STUCK WITH THE CAR. LESS THAN 6 MONTHS AFTER I OWNED THE CAR I BEGAN SEEING COMMERCIALS FOR THE CAR ONLY THE PRICE WAS MORE THAN $5,000 LESS THAN WHAT I WAS CHARGED. ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS OVER THE LAST SIX MONTHS I HAVE HAD MY 2008 DODGE AVENGER 2.4 LITER W/T ENGINE VEHICLE IN THE DEALERSHIPS SHOP TO HAVE THE TRANSMISSION REPAIRED. FIRST, THE SHIFTING WAS VERY HARD AND THE TRANSMISSION WAS BUCKING AND NOT SHIFTING INTO GEAR CORRECTLY. THE SECOND TIME, THE TRANSMISSION WAS NOT SHIFTING HARD ANYMORE BUT THE TRANSMISSION WAS LOSING POWER AND BUCKING AGAIN AND THE REPAIR SHOP DID A COMPUTER UPGRADE REPAIR AND I HAD A RENTAL TRUCK FOR TWO DAYS. UPON RETURN OF THE RENTAL TRUCK, MY CAR, WHICH HAD A QUARTER OF A TANK OF GAS IN IT, WAS RETURNED TO ME ON EMPTY WITH THE FUEL LIGHT ON. THE THIRD TIME I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP REPAIR SHOP THE TRANSMISSION WAS STILL BUCKING AND LOSING POWER. THIS TIME I DROPPED THE CAR OFF AND WHEN I RETURNED TO PICK IT UP, NOT ONLY WAS THE TRANSMISSION STILL HAVING THE SAME ISSUE AFTER THE MECHANICS CHANGED THE TORQUE CONVERSION OPERATION, BUT I NOW HAVE A DING IN THE LEFT REAR DOOR THAT WAS NOT THERE WHEN I DROPPED THE CAR OFF. THE DING IS NOT THAT LARGE, HOWEVER, IT HAS CHIPPED THE PAINT OFF AND THE DEALERSHIP REPAIR SHOP TOLD ME THAT THEY WERE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DAMAGE DUE TO THE AUTHORIZATION SIGNATURE AREA WHERE YOU AUTHORIZE THE DEALERSHIP TO DO THE REPAIRS. THIS IS APPALLING! THE CAR WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN DINGED IF IT WERE NOT FOR ALL THE TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS ASSOCIATED WITH THIS VEHICLE. I RECENTLY PURCHASED A 2008 AVENGER WITH THE 2.4L VVT 4CYLINDER AND TRADED IN MY 2001 DAKOTA WITH A 4.7L V8 MAGNUM FOR IT. I REGRET IT. I WOULD HAVE DON'T BETTER OFF BUYING A FORD. YES, THIS CAR GETS GOOD HIGHWAY GAS MILEAGE BUT IT HAS CAUSED NOTHING BUT HEADACHES BEYOND THAT POINT. IF I DRIVE AROUND TOWN IT SUCKS THE GAS LIKE NO TOMORROW. THE RPM'S ARE WAY TO HIGH. THE CAR SHIFTS AROUND 3,000 OR HIGHER RPM'S WHETHER IT IS WARM OR COLD. WHEN THE SHIFTS, IT IS NOT SMOOTH. THERE HARD SHIFTS. MY FIANCE'S 1999 DURANGO WITH 135,000 MILES ON IT SHIFTS BETTER THAN THIS CAR DOES. RANDOMLY THE CAR WILL DIE WHEN I COME TO A COMPLETE STOP FOR A STOP LIGHT/SIGN. THERE WAS ONE OCCASION WHERE I WAS DRIVING DOWN ONE OF THE BUSIEST ROADS IN OUR TOWN AND IT DIED WHILE I WAS DOING ABOUT 40MPH. BEFORE IT DIES, IT SHAKES REAL BAD FOR ABOUT 3 SECONDS THEN I LOSE EVERYTHING. THE DRIVERS SIDE REAR DOOR HANDLE WILL NOT MOVE. IT IS LIKE IT IS FROZEN IN PLACE. THE HANDLE WILL NOT PULL OUT AT ALL. IT WILL OPEN JUST FINE FROM THE INSIDE BUT I CAN'T DO ANYTHING FROM STANDING OUTSIDE THE CAR. MY DOORS SQUEAK WHEN I OPEN AND CLOSE THEM. WHENEVER I TURN THE WHEEL THE CAR GROANS AT ME. I'VE TAKEN IT TO MY LOCAL DEALER ABOUT 3 TIMES. WHEN I TOLD THEM ABOUT THE SHIFTING, RPM'S, AND RANDOMLY DYING THEY JUST SAID THEY COULDN'T GET IT TO ACT UP. FINALLY, TWO OTHER NEW AVENGERS CAME INTO THEIR SERVICE DEPARTMENT WITH THE SAME PROBLEMS. NOW THEY TELL ME THEY WILL LOOK INTO IT. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 DODGE AVENGER R/T. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN AT THE DEALER FOR OVER A MONTH FOR REPAIRS. HE STATED THAT THE ENGINE HAS NOISY LIFTERS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOUR TIMES AND THEY ONLY REPLACED THE LIFTERS ONCE. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THIS IS HOW THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE MANUFACTURED DUE TO THE THERMAL EXPANDER. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE TRANSMISSION ENGAGES IN AN AUTOMATIC NEUTRAL DROP. THE ENGINE RACES ABOVE 5,000 RPMS, WHICH IS NOT RECOMMENDED. THE FAILURE HAS OCCURRED TWICE. THE TRANSMISSION ALSO JUMPED INTO REVERSE WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN AT THE DEALER FOUR TIMES FOR THE TRANSMISSION. THE TRANSMISSION FAILURE BEGAN IN APRIL OF 2007 AND HAS CONTINUED EVER SINCE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 2,500 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 7. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED, THERE WERE BROKEN BOLTS AND STUDS. THE SHIFTER WOULD NOT RETURN TO PARK. THE ROCKER ARMS, VALVE COVER, LIFTERS AND HEADS WERE REPLACED IN THE ENGINE. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 DODGE AVENGER SXT. ON MAY 31, 2007, WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE TRANSMISSION STALLED AND THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY DECELERATED TO 20 MPH. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE WAS TOSSED AROUND IN THE VEHICLE AND LOST CONTROL OF THE STEERING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN IN FOR SERVICE ON JUNE 2, 2007. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE COMPUTER CONTROL MODULE WAS RESET. ON JUNE 5, 2007, THE ENGINE'S RPM'S MAXED OUT AND BEGAN TO REV. THE ENGINE FAILED AGAIN AND THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE ENGINE SIZE WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 740 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 600.
