The door locks do not work for the sliding doors or the passenger side of the vehicle. We tried to fix this issue by checking the door lock fuse out to make sure it was okay, and it was. The driver's side is the only one that locks. The passenger door lock will not push down and lock when pressed down manually. I feel this is a safety issue and I have seen that others online are having problems with their door locks not working or getting stuck and not unlocking. I don't understand why there is no recall on this issue with the 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan. This is a serious safe issue on any vehicle. My sliding doors have to be manually locked and as I said, the passenger side won't lock, so it's dangerous for me to have passengers. My local Dodge dealership offered to diagnose it, but it's $125.00 for them to just find out what's causing this if they could even do that. Clearly it is an issue of some kind since one door locks. Can you please look into this? Again, I know others have had door lock issues with the Dodge Caravan. Why hasn't this been fixed and recalled already? This is very frustrating. Also, I don't remember the exact date I purchased my vehicle in June, so I've given it my best guess. Thank you for your time in reviewing this. Resolution that fixes this for myself and everyone else who is dealing with this, would be much appreciated.

REMOTE RANDOMLY WILL NOT LOCK/ UNLOCK DOORS. PULL THE BATTERY CABLE AND REMOTE WORKS. CHRYSLER SENT OUT TSB 08-040-04 ON SUBJECT. THEY HAVE A GLITCH IN ORIGINAL SOFTWARE AND SEEMS UNFAIR THAT CONSUMER MUST PAY TO HAVE IT FIXED. SLIDING DOORS DO NOT HAVE KEYS TO LOCK SO ONE MUST CRAWL THROUGH THE DRIVER / PASSENGER SEAT TO LOCK MANUALLY. AS AN OLDER ADULT THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD. IT SHOULD BE RECALLED.

FOR THE LAST THREE YEARS OR SO, IN THE WINTER TIME, MY HEAD LIGHTS WOULD JUST RANDOMLY COME ON WHEN IT STARTED TO GET COLD OUTSIDE. THEY WOULD GO OUT LATER BUT THEY WOULD DO THIS ALL NIGHT AND DAY. THIS YEAR, THEY NOW DO THIS ALL YEAR LONG AND NOW THEY ARE DOING WHILE I AM DRIVING. MY LIGHTS WILL FLICKER AND JUST GO BLACK. I LOSE ALL MY LIGHTS, HEADLIGHTS AND INTERIOR LIGHTS. I HAVE NO CLUE WHAT IS CAUSING THIS. I LOVE MY VAN AND THERE IS NOTHING ELSE WRONG WITH IT. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS I UNDERSTAND BUT THIS HAS TO BE SOMETHING IN THE VAN THAT IS FAULTY. IN THE PAST, I WOULD JUST GRAB THE LIGHT SWITCH AND TURN IT BACK AND FORTH QUICKLY AND IT WOULD TURN THE LIGHTS OFF. THIS NO LONGER WORKS. I HAVE SEEN SIMILAR ISSUES LIKE THIS REPORTED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, HOWEVER, THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER BUT THE FAILURE WAS STILL UNABLE TO BE DETERMINED. THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THE FAILURE MIGHT HAVE BEEN DUE TO THE BATTERY NEEDING TO BE REPLACED. THE BATTERY WAS REPLACED AND THE ABS AND BRAKE LIGHT WARNING INDICATORS WERE NO LONGER ILLUMINATED BUT THE INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTS AND HEADLIGHTS CONTINUED TO FLICKER. AS I WAS DRIVING, THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM ON MY 2005 DODGE CARAVAN WHEELCHAIR-ACCESSIBLE MINIVAN FAILED COMPLETELY, SHUTTING DOWN MY POWER BRAKES, POWER STEERING, ALL DASHBOARD INDICATORS, AND ALL VEHICLE LIGHTS (INCLUDING THE FOUR-WAY FLASHERS). FORTUNATELY, THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO RUN, SO I WAS ABLE TO PULL IT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME TWICE. THE FIRST TIME WE TOOK IT TO OUR REGULAR MECHANIC, WHO COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. AFTER IT HAPPENED THE SECOND TIME, A DODGE DEALER MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT THE AUTOMATIC BRAKING SYSTEM LOCKING MECHANISM HAD FAILED AND SHORTED OUT THE ENTIRE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM AND WOULD COST $900 TO REPAIR. IT ALSO COST AN EXTRA $500 TO REPLACE THE MECHANISM THAT THE PART IS ATTACHED TO BECAUSE IT HAD RUSTED SO SEVERELY. THESE INCIDENTS WERE FRIGHTENING BECAUSE IT WAS DIFFICULT TO PULL THE CAR OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITHOUT POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES. IT WOULD HAVE BEEN WORSE IF IT HAD HAPPENED AT A HIGHER SPEED OR AT NIGHT SINCE ALL MY LIGHTS WOULD HAVE SHUT OFF. I WOULD CONSIDER BUYING A NEWER WHEELCHAIR VAN IF THEY WERE NOT SO INCREDIBLY EXPENSIVE.

MY HUSBAND AND I PURCHASED A DODGE CARAVAN FROM A DEALER AND SINCE PURCHASING IT, WE HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS. OUR DOOR LOCK SYSTEM HAS STOPPED WORKING IN WHICH MY MOTHER WHO IS DISABLED AND CAN ONLY BE PUT ON ONE SIDE OF THE VAN RELATED TO HER STROKE, WAS UNABLE TO EXIT THE VEHICLE. THE LOCKING MECHANISM WOULDN'T LET US OPEN THE DOOR AND WE LIVE IN TEXAS. WE HAD TO KEEP THE CAR RUNNING UNTIL WE WERE ABLE TO TRANSFER HER TO THE OTHER DOOR. WE NOW CAN ONLY PUT HER IN ON HER "BAD" SIDE WHICH PUTS HER AT RISK FOR INJURY (AND US). AFTER THAT WE HAD PROBLEMS THAT STARTED WITH THE GAGES BOBBING UP AND DOWN AND THE INTERIOR LIGHTING SYSTEM IS NOT WORKING RIGHT HALF THE TIME. IT ALSO HAS THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM LIGHT COME ON AND THEN THE FRONT END SHAKES. WE HAVE REPLACED THE ALTERNATOR, GROUNDING WIRES, CHECKED FUSES AND BATTERY AND CABLES. NOTHING HAS WORKED, BUT THERE IS NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO GET CODES FROM UNTIL THE CAR WAS AT AN INTERSECTION AND DIED!!!!! NOW IT IS FREQUENTLY DYING WHEN WE ARE AT A STOP FOR RED LIGHTS, STOP SIGNS AND ...RECENTLY IT DIED WHILE I WAS YIELDING FOR A LEFT TURN. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL CAR ACCIDENTS AND I NEARLY GOT T-BONED AT THIS INTERSECTION. EVEN WHEN THE CAR DIES, IT WOULD USUALLY START RIGHT UP UNTIL A MONTH AGO. NOW IT MAY START UP RIGHT AWAY OR IT MAY NOT START FOR 15-30 MINUTES AFTER IT DIES. IN TEXAS WE NEED THE AIR CONDITIONING. I AM NOW REFUSING TO PUT HER IN SOMETHING I CONSIDER A "DEATH TRAP". I AM NOW PUTTING THIS DOWN IN WRITING BECAUSE I HAVE NOW A CODE THAT SAYS IT IS THE BODY CONTROL MODULE. FROM REPORTS, THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF THESE SAME VANS WITH THIS SAME PROBLEM. IT NEEDS TO BE RECALLED AS IT ISN'T AN ISOLATED PROBLEM. SECOND TIME, HE CHARGED $400 FOR A NEW BODY MODULE. EACH TIME IT STOPPED WORKING AGAIN AFTER ABOUT THREE MONTHS. HE FIXED IT ONCE MORE WITHOUT CHARGE, THEN SAID $89 EACH TIME THEREAFTER. ANOTHER MECHANIC WENT OVER THE WIRING ALL THE WAY TO EACH DOOR AND FOUND NO PROBLEM. I HAVE STOPPED PAYING FOR THE FIXES. I HAVE TRIED THE UNHOOKING THE BATTERY AND UNPLUGGING THE FUSE TRICKS BUT THEY DON'T WORK. SO I DRIVE WITHOUT POWER LOCKS AND DEAL WITH THE NUISANCE OF MANUAL LOCKS. 2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN BCM SOFTWARE FAILURE ' THE FAILURE HAPPENED UNEXPECTEDLY ABOUT A WEEK AND A HALF AGO. IT RESULTED IN POWER DOOR LOCK FAILURE FOR THE VAN AND EVENTUALLY THE ENGINE NOT SHUTTING OFF WHEN THE IGNITION WAS TURNED OFF AND THE KEY TAKEN OUT. HTTP://WWW.CARCOMPLAINTS.COM/DODGE/CARAVAN/2005/ELECTRICAL/POWER_DOOR_LOCKS_QUIT_WORKING.SHTM THE PUSH BUTTONS ON THE KEY GIVE THE INDICATION OF LOCKING/UNLOCKING THE VEHICLE DOORS AS THE HEADLIGHTS BLINK AND THE HORN SIGNALS A RECEIPT OF THE SIGNAL, BUT THE DOORS DO NOT LOCK. ALSO, THE DOOR LOCK SWITCHES ON THE INSIDE OF THE DOOR DO NOT ACTIVATE THE LOCKS. YOU CAN LOCK AND UNLOCK MANUALLY BY USING THE BUTTONS ON EACH DOOR - MANUALLY PUSHING THEM DOWN TO LOCK OR RAISING THEM UP TO UNLOCK. HOWEVER, THAT IS HARD TO DO ON A VAN AS LOCK BUTTONS ARE NOT EASILY REACHED. WHILE THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT OR DAMAGE FROM OUR FAILURE, I CAN SEE THE POSSIBILITY OF A PROBLEM, AS AN EXAMPLE : 1) A PERSON THINKS THE DOORS ARE LOCKED AND A CHILD IS ABLE TO OPEN THE DOOR WHILE THE VEHICLE IS MOVING, 2) A PERSON LEAVES THE VEHICLE IN A PARKING AREA THINKING THE DOORS ARE LOCKED WHEN THEY ARE NOT AND SOMEONE BREAKS INTO THE VEHICLE TO STEAL IT OR TO HIDE AN ATTACK THE DRIVER WHEN THEY RETURN. SO, I DID THE 20 AMP FUSE REMOVAL MYSELF AND THAT FIXED IT. HOWEVER, FROM THE COMPLAINTS IN THE WEB SITE - THIS FIX APPARENTLY DOES NOT LAST (THAT IS SOMETIMES IT LASTS FOR HOURS AND SOMETIMES FOR DAY OR WEEKS). I COULD NOT FIND ANY INFO ON WHERE THE FUSE IS LOCATED, BUT I DID FIND NUMEROUS OTHER COMPLAINTS REGARDING THE EXACT ISSUE I HAVE. I TURNS OUT THE 'FIX' FOR THIS ISSUE IS A SOFTWARE UPGRADE TO THE VEHICLES BCM COMPUTER, AS THE INSTALLED SOFTWARE IS BUGGED. I READ IT IS A $130 CHARGE TO PERFORM THIS UPDATE. ALMOST 1 YEAR AFTER BUYING THE CAR THE DASH AND LIGHTS BEGAN TO FLICKER, THEN FLICKER TO THE POINT IT WOULD LOOSE POWER. WHILE DRIVING, LIGHTS WOULD FUNCTION LIKE STROBE LIGHTS, VISUALLY OUTSIDE AND INSIDE. THE RADIO WOULD CUT ON AND OFF. I TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO CARMAX AND THEY REPLACED THE BATTERY. THE CAR WOULD WORK A COUPLE OF WEEKS AND THEN STARTED WITH SAME PROBLEM. WE RETURNED VEHICLE BACK TO CARMAX AND THEY FORWARD VEHICLE TO DODGE. THEY REPLACE BOTH THE ALTERNATOR AND VALVE ASSEMBLY @ A COST OF $236.49. THIS TIME IT LASTED SEVERAL WEEKS LONGER BUT RETURN BACK TO SAME PROBLEM. WE TOOK VEHICLE BACK TO CARMAX, THEY ONLY EXPERIENCED MINOR FLICKERING THAT THEY SAID WAS NORMAL. I DROVE 2 HOURS ON THE HIGHWAY AND PARKED THE CAR WHEN I ARRIVED AT MY DESTINATION. AFTER 10 MINUTES I WENT TO LEAVE AND I PUT THE CAR IN DRIVE; IT STARTED CRANKING AND STARTED TO ROLL BACKWARDS. PARTS OF MY CAR STARTED FALLING OUT OF THE TRANSMISSION. MY CAR ONLY HAD 32,000 MILES ON IT. THE AXEL GOT CAUGHT IN THE TRANSMISSION AND BROKE ALL THE PIECES IN THE TRANSMISSION. IT TOOK 3 WEEKS FOR MY CAR TO BE REPAID AND I WAS NOT ABLE TO GET A LOANER CAR FROM DODGE EVEN THOUGH I COMPLAINED.I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED IF THIS HAD HAPPENED AN HOUR EARLIER ON THE HIGHWAY. THE SECOND INCIDENT OCCURRED IN OCTOBER. I WAS DRIVING ON MY WAY HOME WITH MY SISTER AND MY 6 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER IN THE CAR. IT WAS RAINING AND ALL OF A SUDDEN MY ELECTRICAL SYSTEM WENT HAYWIRE. INSTRUMENTS ALL A GO .SOMETIMES IT TAKES OVERNIGHT BEFORE THE PANEL WORKS AGAIN. AIRBAG LIGHT HAS BEEN ON FOR 6 MONTHS AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ALWAYS POPPING ON AND OFF . SUMMARY: THE DRIVER'S AIR BAG CLOCK SPRING CAN DEVELOP AN OPEN-CIRCUIT CONDITION, RESULTING IN NONFUNCTIONAL DRIVER-SIDE FRONTAL AIR BAG, HORN, CRUISE CONTROL , IF EQUIPPED, AND/OR STEERING WHEEL RADIO CONTROL , IF EQUIPPED. SO THEY TOLD ME IT COULD BE ONE OF A THOUSAND REASONS THE COMPUTER TURNED OFF THE CAR AND WAIT UNTIL IT HAPPENED MORE FREQUENTLY SO THE SENSOR WILL REGISTER IT. THEN IF IT HAPPENS MORE FREQUENTLY THEY WILL BE ABLE TO TRACE IT. HOWEVER, I AM DRIVING A CAR WITH ONLY 10,000 MILES ON IT THAT AT ANY MOMENT COULD SIMPLY STOP RUNNING.
