The contact owns a 2010 Dodge Challenger. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, there was an abnormal sound coming from the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the instrument panel was damaged and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The contact stated that the battery was replaced. The contact had received notification on NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V352000 (AIR BAGS). The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The failure mileage was 185,000. Parts distribution disconnect.

I need to address a serious issue regarding the car I purchased in 2020 from a private vendor. Upon taking the car to Crown Dodge Dealership in Ventura County for repair, I had to pay roughly $700 out of pocket for the service and rented a car from Hertz for the days I was without my car. However, upon receiving the car back, it still had unresolved issues with the electrical components and dashboard noise. It is unacceptable that the manager at the dealership did not prioritize my safety or the quality of the car I purchased. Since this car is my sole mode of transportation, I demand a prompt resolution to this matter. I expect immediate assistance in addressing these concerns. Thank you.

Was driving normally going 65 mph on the highway when white smoke was emitting from inside the steering wheel. Between the dashboard and steering wheel. Engine was fine and no warning lights came on. Everything ran great except for the white smoke. I don’t know what it could be. Luckily it didn’t catch on fire

The car has an intermittent issue where at highway speeds it will go into almost a limp mode. Basically the check engine light comes on and car loses power and won't go over 45 mph. I have to pull over and shut car off. It will restart and operate normally for a random period of time. Very dangerous when on the highway and have to pull over to the side of the road. From the forums I belong to, this is a very common problem. There are even members that have bought a brand new Challenger and had this happen to them after a few months. The code that usually appears from this is misfire on cylinder 1 and even the dealerships don't know what causes it and hard to diagnose since it happens randomly. Love the car but very annoyed that this keeps happening and no one can figure out the fix

THE CONTACT DISCOVERED SMOKE AND A SPARK COMING FROM THE ALTERNATOR. THE CONTACT DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY CABLE TO PREVENT THE VEHICLE FROM POSSIBLY CATCHING ON FIRE. THE CONTACT THEN RECONNECTED THE BATTERY AND DROVE TO AN INDEPENDENT AUTO SHOP. THE MECHANIC REPLACED THE ALTERNATOR IN THE VEHICLE. AFTERWARDS, THE ALTERNATOR AND COMPUTER INSIDE THE VEHICLE FAILED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE ALTERNATOR WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE COMPUTER SYSTEM WAS NOT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 154,000.

MY PASSENGER DOOR LATCH WENT OUT. THERE'S A RECALL FOR 2011 CHALLENGERS BUT NOT 2010. MY 2010 HAS THE SAME ISSUES AS THE 2011 RECALLS. I HAD TO REPLACE MY DOOR LATCH BECAUSE MY WINDOW KEPT JUMPING UP AND DOWN WHILE MY CAR WAS OFF AND KILLED MY BATTERY. MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP HAD NO IDEA HOW TO FIX IT OR WHAT WAS CAUSING MY WINDOW TO JUMP UP AND DOWN. I HAD TO TELL THEM I READ ONLINE THAT THE LATCH WAS THE ISSUE. AFTER REPLACING THE LATCH THE PROBLEM WAS FIXED BUT TWO WEEKS LATER I ROLLED MY WINDOW DOWN WHILE DRIVING AND IT WILL NOT COME BACK UP. OF THE 2011 CHALLENGERS HAVE THE RECALL WHY DOESN'T THE 200 HAVE THE SAME RECALL BECAUSE THEY ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUES.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT FURTHER DIAGNOSTIC TESTING WAS REQUIRED AND THE PART MAY NO LONGER BE AVAILABLE TO REPLACE THE COMPUTER AGAIN. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. PURCHASED NEW IN 11/2010. 2 YEARS INTO OWNERSHIP, ON ABOUT 4 OCCURANCES, ENGINE WOULD SHUT OFF, LOOSE STEERING CONTROL AND BRAKES AT THE SAME TIME WHILE MAKING A SLOW RIGHT HAND TURN. PROBLEM DISAPPEARED AND THOUGHT IT WAS A FLUKE OF SOME KIND. NOW 3 YEARS LATER IT HAS STARTED DOING IT AGAIN EVERY TIME I DRIVE IT. WHEN THE ENGINE DIES YOU CAN BARELY STEER AND HAVE TO REALLY PULL HARD ON THE STEERING WHEEL TO KEEP FROM GOING INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. BRAKES DO NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY EITHER, YOU LOOSE ALL POWER BRAKING AND IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO STOP. I HAVE SEARCHED THE INTERNET FOR THIS ISSUE EXTENSIVELY. WHAT I HAVE FOUND IS ABOUT A HUNDRED OTHER DIFFERENT INDIVIDUALS ON SEVERAL FORUM SITES DESCRIBING EXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEM. NOBODY HAD AN ANSWER TO THE PROBLEM AND FOUND JUST AS MANY DIFFERENT THINGS THAT PEOPLE SAID WERE WRONG RANGING FROM ECM FAILURE TO SEVERAL DIFFERENT MODULES AND LOOSE CONNECTIONS. WHEN IT FIRST STARTED IT WOULD ONLY OCCUR WHEN SLOWING DOWN AND MAKING A RIGHT HAND TURN. NOW IT DOES IT AT ANY TIME NO MATTER WHETHER SITTING IN A PARKING LOT OR DRIVING ON THE STREET. YOU HAVE TO TURN THE KEY ALL THE WAY OFF AND THEN TURN IT BACK ON TO START IT AND THERE IS ALWAYS A DELAY FROM THE TIME YOU DO THAT TILL THE TIME IT RESPONDS. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SAFETY ISSUE AND A RECALL SHOULD BE DONE AS SO MANY PEOPLE HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE WITHOUT IT EVER BEING CLEARLY UNDERSTOOD WHAT WAS CAUSING THE PROBLEM.

MY SON WAS DRIVING ON A BUSY ROAD IN THE CITY GOING STRAIT AHEAD AND NOTICED THE BATTERY LIGHT HAD COME ON, VERY QUICKLY HE THEN NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE CAR, UNDER THE HOOD. FORTUNATELY HE WAS ABLE TO QUICKLY EXIT THE ROADWAY AND GET INTO A PARKING LOT. HE OPENED THE HOOD AND MORE SMOKE CAME OUT. HE CALLED ME (HIS FATHER) AND EXPLAINED THE SITUATION. I ASKED IF IT WAS ON FIRE AND CAUTIONED HIM TO GET BACK AND TO LET IT COOL DOWN. HE LET IT COOL DOWN AND ATTEMPTED TO RESTART THE CAR. THE CAR HAD NO ELECTRICAL POWER AT THIS TIME. DOOR LOCKS AND TRUNK LATCH WOULD NOT FUNCTION. AFTER PUTTING THE KEY IN THE IGNITION AND REALIZING THE CAR WAS COMPLETELY DEAD HE ATTEMPTED TO REMOVE THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION AND THE CAR WOULD NOT RELEASE THE KEY, THEREFORE HE WAS FORCED TO LEAVE THE KEY IN THE CAR UNATTENDED AND EVENTUALLY TOWED FOR SERVICE. I HAVE CONCERNS ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THIS SITUATION GIVEN THAT IF HE WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO EXIT QUICKLY THE CAR COULD HAVE CAUGHT FIRE OR COMPLETELY LOST POWER/CONTROL WHILE HE WAS STUCK IN THE ROADWAY. APPARENTLY THE CAR ALTERNATOR GOT HOT ENOUGH TO DESTROY IT AND THE BATTERY. AFTER SEARCHING THE INTERNET THERE ARE NUMEROUS REPORTS OF THIS SAME PROBLEM AND SUBSEQUENT RECALL OF LATER YEAR MODELS OF THIS EXACT SAME ALTERNATOR WITH A SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT ENGINE MODEL(NHTSA 14V-634) RECALL NUMBER P-60 ALTERNATOR. THE SERVICE MANAGER INFORMED MY THERE WAS ISSUES WITH THE TIMING CHAIN AND THAT WAS THE REASON FOR THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMING ON AND THAT THERE WOULD BE NO CHARGE TO ME FOR THEM TO REPLACE THE TIMING CHAIN. WHEN I PICKED UP MY 2010 CHALLENGER RT A WEEK LATER THE CHECK ENGINE WAS STILL ON AND THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME THEY WOULD HAVE TO DIAGNOSE IT FURTHER. THE NEXT DAY THE SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE INFORMED ME THE MDS SOLENOID WIRING TO THE MAIN HARNESS HAD MELTED AND THAT THE ENGINE HARNESS WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED AND WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE MANUFACTURES WARRANTY OR MY EXTENDED WARRANTY AND THAT IT WOULD BE $2000 OUT OF POCKET TO ME. THE DEALERSHIP NEVER GAVE ANY EXPLANATION WHY THE WIRING MELTED AT THE MDS SOLENOID TO THE MAIN HARNESS CAUSING THE PROBLEM. AT THE TIME I ONLY HAD 38,000 MILES ON MY CAR. *JS

AFTER CHANGING A DEAD BATTERY THE ETC LIGHT CAME ON (SOLID WHEN STARTING AND RUNNING). BEFORE CHANGING THE BATTERY THERE WAS NO ABNORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS OR NOTICEABLE HORSEPOWER ISSUES. THE MANUAL STATES TO TAKE THESE ACTIONS "IF THE LIGHT COMES ON WHILE THE ENGINE IS RUNNING, SAFELY BRING THE VEHICLE TO A COMPLETE STOP AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, PLACE THE SHIFT LEVER IN PARK, AND CYCLE THE IGNITION KEY. THE LIGHT SHOULD TURN OFF. IF THE LIGHT REMAINS LIT WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING, YOUR VEHICLE WILL USUALLY BE DRIVABLE. HOWEVER, SEE AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR SERVICE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE." IF THE LIGHT IS FLASHING WHEN THE ENGINE IS RUNNING, IMMEDIATE SERVICE IS REQUIRED. IF CHRYSLER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEMS I HAVE HAD WITH THIS CAR, THEY WOULD REMEMBER IT FROM 3 DAYS AFTER I PURCHASED IT FROM WESTPOINTE DODGE IN OKLAHOMA. I HAD PROBLEMS FROM DAY ONE, MAINLY FROM THE LIES I WAS TOLD AT THE DEALERSHIP, I BOUGHT IT NEW! I WAS TOLD OF ALL THE EXTRAS ON THIS VEHICLE INCLUDING A NAVAGATION SYSTEM, I TRIED TO GET THE NAVAGATION SYSTEM TO WORK, NO LUCK. I CALLED THEM AND THEY TOLD ME TO BRING IT BACK, PROBABLY JUST DIDN'T HAVE THE NAVAGATION SYSTEM HOOKED UP. I TOOK IT BACK, THEY SAID IT HAD ONE, THEN LOOKED AND CHECKED AND ON AND ON, THEN SAID NO NAVAGATION SYSTEM, THEY INSTALLED AN AFTER MARKET MIRROR SO I WOULD HAVE SOMETHING TO TELL ME WHAT DIRECTIONS I WAS GOING. THAT WAS NOT THE END THERE. I SENT 10 PAGES OF NOTES TO CHRYSLER EXPLAINING ALL THE PROBLEMS I HAD WITH THE VEHICLE. THEY GAVE ME FREE OIL CHANGES. NOW, IN MARCH, THE CAR STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS STARTING, IT WOULD DIE AFTER RUNNING ROUGH, THEN AFTER 2-3 TRIES IT WOULD START. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP ON MAY 1ST, THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM, PROBABLY JUST BAD GAS, I HAD GOT IT BACK 2 DAYS LATER. THE NEXT DAY, IT WOULD NOT START, AFTER A FEW MORE TRIES IT DID START. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND TOOK IT BACK TO THEM ON MAY 6TH. I CALLED THEM MAY 7TH, SAID THEY THOUGHT THEY FOUND THE PROBLEM AND CHANGED SOMETHING. I CALLED THEM YESTERDAY AND THEY SAID IT STILL HAD THE PROBLEM AND THEY HAD CONTACTED CHRYSLER TO SEE IF THEY COULD HELP FIND THE PROBLEM. MY 2010 CHALLENGER RT BURST INTO FLAMES AT AN IDOL. THE ENGINE WIRE HARNESS SHORTED AND CAUGHT FIRE. THANKFULLY I AM A FIREFIGHTER AND SAVED THE VEHICLE. IT HAS LESS THAN 20,000 MILES ON IT. I AM FURIOUS DUE TO THE FACT THAT DODGE WILL NOT COVER IT UNDER WARRANTY WHICH IT SHOULD BE. IT IS A MANUFACTURES FAULT NOT MINE. IT WAS PARKED AND IDLING WHEN THIS HAPPENED. MY 2010 DODGE CHALLENGER R/T ROUGHLY SAT FOR 2-3 WINTER MONTHS, DRIVEN 2-3 TIMES DURING THAT PERIOD. WHILE STARTING IT UP IN FEBRUARY THE CAR STARTED THEN STALLED OUT. WHILE DRIVING IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC THE CHECK ENGINE OIL AND ESP LIGHT CAME ON FOLLOWED BY FOUR CHIMES AND THEN CAR COMPLETELY SHUT OFF AND THE STEERING LOCKED. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS, THE CAR STARTED UP AGAIN AND THE CODES TURNED OFF. APPROX 1 MONTH LATER THE SAME THING OCCURRED. I WAS MAKING A TURN ON A ROUNDABOUT WHEN THE SAME THING OCCURRED DURING HEAVY TRAFFIC AND ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. I TOOK THE CAR INTO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THERE WAS NOTHING CAPTURED ON THE COMPUTER. THEY REPLACED THE KEY FOB AND SAID THAT THIS SHOULD FIX THE PROBLEM. 4-5 MONTHS LATER, I WAS IN RENO, NV. I WAS DRIVING 20-35 MPH AND AGAIN CHECK ENGINE OIL LIGHT, ESP AND FOUR CHIMES AND THE CAR SHUT OFF AGAIN, THE STEERING LOCKED, AND I COASTED UNTIL I CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP AND PLACED IT IN PARK, STARTED CAR AND OIL AND CODES TURNED OFF. 24 HOURS LATER WHEN DRIVING HOME ON THE FREEWAY IN HEAVY TRAFFIC, THE SAME THING OCCURRED!!! I PUT ON MY HAZARD LIGHTS AND LET THE CAR ROLL, CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP, PLACED CAR IN PARK AND AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS, THE CAR STARTED AND CODES TURNED OFF. THE FOLLOWING DAY I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND AGAIN THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM WITH IT, AS NOTHING WAS RECORDED IN THE INTERNAL COMPUTER. I ASKED FOR THE CAR TO BE KEPT UNTIL THE PROBLEM WAS RESOLVED. THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO DUPLICATE IT IN THAT ONE WEEK. I ASKED FOR A CO PILOT COMPUTER TO BE PLACED IN THE VEHICLE IN HOPES OF CAPTURING THE PROBLEM WHEN IT OCCURRED, AS THE CODES TURN OFF AFTER CAR IS STARTED. DODGE SENT OUT A REP TO INSPECT VEHICLE. AFTER INSPECTION THEY STATED NOTHING IS WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE, THEY CANNOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM, AND THERE ARE NO CODES STORED ON THE COMPUTER. I AM NOW FACED WITH DRIVING AN UNSAFE VEHICLE THAT SHUTS OFF ON ME IN THE CITY AND MOST DANGEROUSLY ON THE FREEWAY WITH NO SET PATTERN AND THE MANUFACTURER HAS DONE NOTHING TO FIX IT!! *TR

I'VE HAD THE SAME ISSUE AS MANY HAVE DESCRIBED WHEN YOUR CHALLENGER LOSES ALL POWER STEERING AND BRAKING ABILITY WHILE MAKING A RIGHT TURN AT LOW SPEEDS. LUCKILY I WAS PULLING INTO A CAR WASH WHEN THIS HAPPENED AND NOT AT MY SONS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL WHERE THE DEADLY POTENTIAL OF KILLING SCHOOL KIDS WAS THERE...BY THE WAY I WAS ON THE WAY TO PICK UP MY KID WHEN I MADE A LAST MINUTE CHOICE TO GET A QUICK WASH. SO AS STATED BY EVERYONE ELSE HERE, PUT THE CAR IN PARK AN WAS ABLE TO START RIGHT BACK UP AFTERWARDS. NOT KNOWING THIS WAS AN ISSUE THAT OTHERS WERE HAVING, I OPENED THE HOOD AND STARTED LOOKING FOR LOSE CABLES OR POPPED CAPS AND SUCH AND FINDING NOTHING. I NOTICED THE OIL PRESSURE WAS AT 0!!! AFTER EVERYTHING WAS BACK TO WORKING I CHECK THE SAME DETAIL AND IT WAS AT A NORMAL 25PSI. SO TOOK CAR INTO DODGE AND AS NORMAL, "WE COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING AND THERE ARE NO ISSUES THAT I KNOW. WE ALSO COULDN'T REPRODUCE IT." REALLY? THIS IS 4TH OR 5TH TIME THIS ISSUE HAS HAPPENED, HAVE BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY HAVE COME UP WITH NOTHING. THERE ARE SEVERAL COMPLAINTS ON NHTSA ABOUT THIS ISSUE, AS WELL AS THOUSANDS ONLINE, YET THE DEALER STATES THEY ARE UNAWARE OF THE ISSUE. NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS, SLOWING DOWN TO MAKE A TURN AND THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY SHUTS OFF AND I LOSE POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKING. THE CAR BECOMES VERY HARD TO MANEUVER AND STOP. THE CAR WAS STOPPED IN AN INTERSECTION, AND THANKFULLY THE APPROACHING CARS WERE FAR ENOUGH AWAY TO SLOW DOWN AND STOP. I THEN PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND START IT UP AND DRIVE OFF WITH NO OTHER ISSUES. VEHICLE SUDDENLY SHUT DOWN IN THE MIDDLE OF MAKING A RIGHT HAND TURN UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS. I WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AND COMPLETE THE TURN WITHOUT INCIDENT DUE TO THE ALERTNESS OF THE DRIVER BEHIND ME. I DID NOT NOTICE WHICH SYMBOLS, IF ANY, LIT UP ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. HAVING A VEHICLE SHUT DOWN FOR NO APPARENT REASON WHILE DRIVING IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION THAT COULD RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 DODGE CHALLENGER. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 10V200000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION:MODULE). HE STATED THAT AFTER CONTACTING THE DEALER, THEY ADVISED HIM THAT THE PART NEEDED FOR REPAIRS WOULD BE UNAVAILABLE FOR SIX MONTHS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY ADVISED HIM TO CONTINUE CALLING THE DEALER UNTIL THE PART BECAME AVAILABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 100.

HAD BEEN DRIVING THE CAR FOR APPROX. 1.5 HOURS, APPROACHED A RED LIGHT AND TRAFFIC IN FRONT OF ME HAD STOPPED ABRUPTLY FORCING ME TO MAKE A FAST STOP. NOT A FULL FORCE STOP BUT A QUICK REACTION/SUDDEN STOP. THEN MY CAR STALLED OUT AND THE OIL LIGHT CAME ON. I PUT IT IN PARK AND RESTARTED THE CAR. IT STARTED RIGHT BACK UP. I PUT IT IN DRIVE BUT IT HESITATED TO MOVE FOR APPROXIMATELY 3-5 SECONDS, THEN TOOK OFF. THE CAR HAD APPROXIMATELY 2000 MILES ON IT. CURRENTLY IT HAS ALMOST 3000 MILES. THIS HAD HAPPENED ONCE BEFORE THIS INCIDENT ALSO AS I WAS SLOWING DOWN TO MAKE A LEFT HAND TURN ONTO THE STREET I LIVE ON. SAME THING, CAR RESTARTED RIGHT UP. THAT WAS WITH ABOUT 1000 MILES ON THE CAR. I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE DEALERSHIP TO SEE IF THEY CAN DETECT SOMETHING. HOWEVER, I'VE READ ON SOME FORUMS THAT IT HAS BEEN HAPPENING TO THESE CARS QUITE A BIT IN AUTOMATICS 5.7 AND 6.1 MOTORS. MY FEAR IS THAT ME OR A MEMBER OF MY FAMILY, AS WELL AS SOME UNSUSPECTING OTHER DRIVER WILL RUN INTO EITHER MY BACK END OR FROM THE SIDE IF STALLS AGAIN WHILE MAKING A TURN ACROSS ONCOMING TRAFFIC. 2010 CHALLENGER SRT8 - CAR SHUT DOWN AT RED LIGHT. IT HAS ONLY HAPPENED ONCE, BUT FROM THE RESEARCH I HAVE DONE ON THE INTERNET, IT HAS BEEN HAPPENING TO OTHERS WHO OWN THIS MODEL AND YEAR CAR. I CONTACTED A LOCAL DODGE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY WERE NOT AWARE OF ANY PROBLEM SUCH AS THIS AND THEY WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO FIND OUT WHAT WAS CAUSING UNLESS THE ENGINE MALFUNCTION LIGHT CAME ON. MY HUSBAND THINKS THAT THIS IS A COMPUTER PROBLEM AND HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE OIL PRESSURE SENSOR NOT COMMUNICATING PROPERLY TO THE COMPUTER AND WHEN THE OIL PRESSURE DROPS, IT CAUSES THE ENGINE TO CUT OFF.
