I replaced the factory alternator about 2 years back and have had to replace it twice since then. The replacement alternator were not from the manufacturer but were brand new. The battery warning light comes on when it starts to fail and the hot wire leading to the alternator gets extremely hot. Didn't experience this until I had the aftermarket alternator installed.
their is a common problem with the dash light panels going out making it unsafe ,unable to see speedomiter at night ,the repair is to have the whole gauge cluster replaced that also fails

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE LOCAL DEALER DICK POE DODGE (1363 AIRWAY BOULEVARD EL PASO, TX 79925-2213) WHO DIAGNOSED THE ALTERNATOR WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 17V435000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD EXPERIENCED THE SAME FAILURE LISTED IN THE RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 72,000.

THE FACT IS MY VEHICLE MEETS ALL THE CRITERIA AS THE VEHICLES UNDER THE RECALL. CAN I GET SOME HELP HERE PLEASE?

WENT TO START THE VEHICLE TO TAKE IN FOR A RECALL WHEN THE ELECTRONICS STARTED TO FLASH AND CLICK RANDOMLY. UNABLE TO CLEAR OR STOP THE MALFUNCTION. TRUNK WOULD NOT RELEASE ELECTRICALLY, HAD TO CRAWL THROUGH THE BACK SEAT TO GET TO THE MANUAL RELEASE. DISCONNECTED AND REPLACED ORIGINAL BATTERY (IN TRUNK). UPON CONNECTING NEGATIVE TERMINAL, LARGE DRAW ON BATTERY, TERMINAL BECAME HOT IMMEDIATELY. DISCONNECTED TERMINAL WITHIN 10 SECONDS. SMOKE APPEARED FROM UNDER HOOD. OPENED HOOD AND FOUND SMALL FIRE NEAR ALTERNATOR. FIRE EXTINGUISHED WITH ABOUT 1 LITER OF WATER. FOUND BURNED OUT WIRING HARNESS NEAR ALTERNATOR. FLAT BED TOWED INTO DEALER FOR INVESTIGATION AND SERVICE (PENDING).

WHILE DRIVING THIS CAR ON THE HIGHWAY WITH THE WINDOWS OPEN, THE DRIVERS WINDOW SUDDENLY WENT UP ALMOST CATCHING MY SONS ARM IN THE WINDOW. THE WINDOW CONTINUED TO GO UP AND DOWN ALL ON ITS OWN. IN RESEARCHING I FOUND THAT THE 2011 CHALLENGERS HAD A SMART GLASS PROBLEM, EXACTLY LIKE THIS, BUT IT WAS ONLY ON BUILDS BEFORE MARCH 2011 AND THIS CAR WAS JULY 2011. I FEAR THAT DURING THE NIGHT IF THIS HAPPENS WHILE PARKED IN GARAGE IT COULD POSSIBLE OVERHEAT MOTOR AND CAUSE FIRE. OR TRAP MY SONS ARM IN WINDOW WHILE DRIVING.

I AM NOT WILLING TO INVEST MONEY IN REPAIRING THIS ISSUE UNLESS THERE IS A CLEAR MANUFACTURER STRATEGY TO FIXING THE PROBLEM.

THEY TRIED TO ORDER A REPLACEMENT ALTERNATOR, AND THE DEALERSHIP WOULD NOT RELEASE THEM THE PART, CLAIMING THEY, THE DEALERSHIP, MUST PERFORM THE REPAIR. THIS IS NOT WHAT THE RECALL LETTER STATES, NOR CAN OR WILL THE DEALERSHIP PERFORM THIS REPAIR IN A TIMELY MANNER. MY CAR HAS BEEN DOWN SINCE 9/22, AND THE DEALER WILL NOT PERFORM THE REPAIR UNTIL 10/5.

I JUMPSTARTED MY CAR AND WAS ABLE TO GET TO MY DESTINATION WHICH WAS NEARBY AND I PARKED AND TURNED OFF MY CAR. AS SOON AS I TRIED TURNING IT ON MY BATTERY WAS DEAD AGAIN. I CALLED MY ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE FOR A JUMP AND WAS ABLE TO GET MY CAR GOING BUT AS SOON AS I TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL MY CAR SEEMED TO HAVE A SHORT WHICH CAUSED ALL THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS TO GO AND MY CAR TO TURN OFF AND KILL MY BATTERY. READING HOW MANY OTHER DODGE OWNERS HAVE GONE THROUGH VERY SIMILAR PROBLEMS AND BEEN FORTUNATE TO AVOID GETTING HURT OR HURTING OTHER DRIVERS. I BELIEVE THIS ISSUE SHOULD BE LOOKED INTO A BIT MORE SINCE IT SEEMS TO BE MORE COMMON AND SHOULD NOT BE AT THE OWNERS EXPENSE. IVE BEEN VERY HAPPY WITH MY CHALLENGER TO THIS POINT. I JUST WANT TO BE ABLE TO DRIVE MY CHALLENGER COMFORTABLY NOT WORRY ABOUT MY SAFETY AND KNOW THE MANUFACTURER HAS DONE EVERYTHING POSSIBLE TO TAKE CARE OF THE ISSUE AND AVOID THE SAME PROBLEM IN FUTURE MODELS. I EVENTUALLY WOULD LIKE TO OWN A NEWER CHALLENGER MODEL. KNOWING THAT STEPS ARE BEING TAKEN TO AVOID SIMILAR ISSUES ON THEM, I CAN SEE MYSELF GETTING ONE,EVEN IF ASKED TO RETURN THE ONE I OWN NOW.

CAUSING LOSS OF STEERING AND CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE TRACTION CONTROL SHUTS OFF AND BECAUSE THE ENGINE SHUTS DOWN THE POWER STEERING IS GONE AND THE POWER BRAKES . THIS HAPPENED TO ME COMING AROUND A SHARP CORNER OF AN OFF RAMP. I LOST ALL CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND ALMOST WENT OFF THE ROAD. I CALLED THE SERVICE DEPT. OF MY DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME THIS IS COMMON WHEN THE BATTERY CHARGE ISN'T POWERFUL ENOUGH TO SUSTAIN THE COMPUTER. BUT THERE ARE NO WARNING SIGNALS OR ANYTHING WITHIN THE CAR TO TELL YOU THE BATTERY IS LOW. I DID A SYSTEM CHECK WHEN I PULLED OVER AND THE SYSTEM SAID "OK". I FEEL THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. SOME ONE CAN SERIOUSLY BE HURT OR KILLED.

DRIVING IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC ON A BUSY CITY STREET HAD AN ALTERNATOR ISSUE ON DATE LISTED ABOVE IN MY 2011 DODGE CHALLENGER WITH ONLY 34,500 MILES. THE ABS, TRAC CONTROL, BATTERY SAVER, SEAT BELT AND OTHER DASHBOARD LIGHTS CAME ON AND OFF THEN THE CAR SHUT DOWN AND WOULD NOT RESTART. BATTERY IS LESS THAN ONE WEEK OLD. AS I AM OUT OF WARRANTY, AND AWARE OF A RECALL ON ALTERNATORS IN CERTAIN 2011 CHRYSLER VEHICLES I CALLED CHRYSLER AND THEY TOOK AN INCIDENT REPORT AND CONCEDED TO ME THAT ALTHOUGH THE ALTERNATOR IS THE SAME MANUFACTURER, VOLTAGE, MODEL AND PART NUMBER THEY WOULD NOT HONOR THE OPEN RECALL BECAUSE MY ENGINE IS THE V8 5.7 LITER AND NOT THE V6 MODEL. I AM WORRIED THE DEALER WILL ALSO FAIL TO HONOR THE RECALL AND NOT REPAIR MY VEHICLE. THIS IS DESPITE THE FACT THAT I HAD TAKEN MY CAR TO THE DEALER SEVERAL MONTHS PRIOR AND ASKED THEM TO CHECK ON A LOUD WHINING NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THE ENTIRE INSTRUMENT PANEL STARTED FLICKERING THEN EVERYTHING BLACKED OUT AND THE CAR LOST POWER; HAD TO USE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP THE CAR. I WAS DRIVING MY CAR ON 7/19/2014 AS NORMAL AND I NOTICED SEVERAL DRIVERS FROM OTHER CARS POINTING AT MY HOOD. THERE WERE NO DASH INDICATOR LIGHTS ON . THE DEALER FIRST REPLACED THE BATTERY, BUT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START. THE DEALER THEN DETERMINED THAT THE ALTERNATOR EXHIBITED A SHORTAGE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED WHERE THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THE ALTERNATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER WAS SCHEDULED TO REPAIR THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND A COMPLAINT WAS FILED. STARTED AT ABOUT TWO TO THREE MONTHS WHILE STOPPED TO MAKE TURN, THE COMPUTER RESET. IT NOTED TIRE PRESSURE LOW AND AIR BAG LIGHT. THIS COMPUTER PROBLEM HAS HAPPENED AT LEAST SIX TO EIGHT TIMES. ALSO, AT LEAST SIX TO EIGHT TIMES, THE CAR WILL NOT DETECT KEY FOB AND THIS HAS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES AFTER NEW BATTERIES IN KEY FOBS WITH NEW BATTERIES. CAR ALSO DIED WHILE STOPPED AT LIGHT AND WHEN RE-STARTED IT ONLY HAD HALF THE POWER. I 'LIMPED' IT HOME TO AVOID GETTING STRANDED. WHEN RE-STARTED IT WAS ALRIGHT, BUT I CONTINUE TO HAVE COMPUTER AND ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS. AFTER THE CAR STALLED, IT WOULD FLASH THE LIGHTS NUMEROUS TIMES WHEN THE KEY FOB WAS NEAR THE CAR IN MY POCKET OF SWEAT PANTS WITH NOTHING ELSE IN MY POCKET AND NOTHING PUSHING THE KEY FOB. PROBLEMS INCREASING OVER TIME AND I NOTICED CHALLENGER HAD NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS FOR KEY FOB AND ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS. I JUST TOOK THE CAR IN FOR A RECALL REGARDING THE OUTSIDE DOOR SENSOR KEYLESS ENTRY. CAR HAS BEEN TO DEALER ABOUT THREE TIMES FOR THESE ELECTRICAL RELATED PROBLEMS. THE FIRST TIME THEY RE-SET THE COMPUTER. THE SECOND TIME THE DEALER COULD NOT REPLICATE THE 'KEY FOB NOT DETECTED' ISSUE. THIS TIME IT HAD THE KEYLESS ENTRY PROBLEM AND THE DEALER REFUSED TO EVEN WRITE DOWN THAT THE CAR STALLED IN TRAFFIC WHICH WAS ON A STATE HIGHWAY. *TR

I DRIVE A 2011 DODGE CHALLENGER SRT-8. IT HAS ONLY 300 MILES ON IT. I WAS DRIVING IT OFF THE HIGHWAY AND WAS MAKING A RIGHT TURN OFF THE EXIT. SUDDENLY THE VEHICLES ENGINE AND ELECTRICAL POWER ALL SHUTDOWN. LUCKILY THE CAR BEHIND ME SWERVED OUT OF THE WAY OR WE BOTH SURELY WOULD OF DIED. I COULD NOT EVEN PULL OVER. ONCE I PUT IT IN PARK I WAS ABLE TO RESTART IT. I CHECKED ONLINE AND SEVERAL WEBSITES LIST THIS VERY SAME COMPLAINT. THE DEALER SAID THEY ARE "UNAWARE" OF THE ISSUE AND CAN DO NOTHING ABOUT IT.
