The contact owns a 2008 Dodge Charger. The contact stated while driving 65 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power with the check engine, traction control, and an unknown warning light illuminated. The contact restarted the vehicle and drove to his residence. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, and the dealer informed the contact that he had to pay out of pocket for the diagnostic test. MY CAR HAS BEEN SITTING IN THE FRONT YARD TILL I CAN AFFORD TO FIX IT ONLY HAD THE CAR 2 MONTHS. SITTING AT THE LIGHT FELT LIKE SOMEONE BUMPED THE BACK OF MY CAR BUT THERE WAS NO CAR BEHIND ME. COOLANT STARTED TO LEAK THROUGH THE A/C VENT. PULLED OVER AFTER THE LIGHT CHANGED AND TOWED THE CAR HOME AS IT JUST STARTED TO SHOW THAT IT WAS GOING TO OVERHEAT. WE REMOVED THE COOLING FAN AND SAW THE BROKEN BLADES AND THE WHOLE IT MADE IN THE RADIATOR. I WAS TOLD BY CHRYSLER THAT THE BLADES ARE CHEAP AND BREAK EASILY. WELL HELLO IF I AM GOING TO PAY THAT MUCH I HOPE THAT A VEHICLE IS GOING TO SOMEWHAT HOLD TOGETHER. SMOKE AND FLUID BEGAN COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. SHE IMMEDIATELY STOPPED THE VEHICLE AND SHUT IT OFF. I RECEIVED A FRANTIC PHONE CALL AND RESPONDED TO THE LOCATION TO FIND THAT A LITTLE MORE THAN HALF OF THE ELECTRIC RADIATOR COOLING FAN BLADES HAD DESENTIGRATED INTO PIECES, CUTTING INTO THE RADIATOR. THE VEHICLE IS NOW INOPERABLE AND PARKED AWAITING TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP ON MONDAY. THERE WERE NO PREVIOUS WARNING SIGNS OF THIS EVENT HAPPENING AND AM VERY GLAD MY WIFE WAS NOT DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY WHEN THIS HAPPENED AS THE OUTCOME COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH DIFFERENT. LOOKING ONLINE, THIS APPEARS TO HAVE BEEN A PROBLEM WITH THIS YEAR MAKE AND MODEL VEHICLE ALONG WITH SEVERAL OTHERS FROM DODGE. I RECEIVED ANOTHER NOTICE IN FEBRUARY OF 2015 AT WHICH TIME I CONTACTED MY LOCAL DODGE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THERE WERE CURRENTLY NO PARTS AVAILABLE TO FIX THE ISSUE. SOMETIME DURING THE MIDDLE OF MARCH I WAS TURNING RIGHT ONTO A 5 LINE HIGHWAY WHEN I LOST ALL POWER TO MY VEHICLE. AS I TRIED TO GET OFF THE ROAD AND OUT OF TRAFFIC THE POWER RESTORED ON IT'S OWN. THIS SAME POWER LOST HAS OCCURRED ONCE MORE SINCE MARCH. I HAVE CONTINUED TO CHECK WITH MY LOCAL DEALER BUT NO PARTS ARE STILL AVAILABLE. AFTER SPENDING 51 MINUTES ON THE PHONE WITH A GENTLEMAN NAMED ALEX I WAS BASICALLY TOLD THAT UNLESS THE CAR WAS BROKEN DOWN OR I WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO, BUT IF I DID BECOME INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE OF THE MALFUNCTION I COULD CONTACT THEM BACK AND THEY WOULD TRY AND ASSIST ME BETTER. WAS DRIVING TO WORK AND GOING ABOUT 30 MPH AND ACCELERATING AFTER A STOP LIGHT AND ENGINE STARTED TO HESITATE AND THEN HEARD VERY LOAD RATTLING/TICKING NOISE THAT IS NON STOP. CAR STALLED IN MIDDLE OF STREET. FINALLY GOT IT STARTED AGAIN. CAR DID MAKE IT HOME BUT WOULD NOT ACCELERATE TOO MUCH. AM NOW TOLD BY MECHANIC THAT ENGINE IS BLOWN AND NEED TO REPLACE IT. HAVE MAINTAINED THIS ENGINE AND REPLACED OIL REGULARLY. DRIVEN TO WORK AND HOME AND LITTLE ELSE. DRIVEN WELL, AND TAKEN CARE OF. PRIOR TO ME OWNING IT WAS OWNED BY MY MOMS COMPANY FOR AN EXECUTIVE CAR AND IT WAS MANAGED BY A FLEET MANAGER AND SERVICED AND MAINTAINED WELL. THEY WERE ORIGINAL OWNERS EVEN THOUGH TITLE SHOWS 2 CHANGES. IT MAY HAVE BEEN TRANSFERRED TO A FLEET MANAGEMENT COMPANY AFTER THE INITIAL PURCHASE. I AM THE 2ND OWNER. ON CHRISTMAS EVE, DECEMBER 24TH 2012 AT APPROXIMATELY 1:45 IN THE AFTERNOON I WAS DRIVING MY 2008 DODGE CHARGER ON A BUSY INTERSECTION WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN I HEARD A LOUD BANGING NOISE FROM MY ENGINE COMPARTMENT. AFTER I HEARD THE LOUD NOISE, MY 2008 DODGE CHARGER IMMEDIATELY STOPPED AND SHUT OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF THE BUSY INTERSECTION NEARLY CAUSING A CHAIN REACTION MULTICAR ACCIDENT. A LOCAL POLICE OFFER CAME TO THE SCENE AND HELPED DIRECT TRAFFIC UNTIL I WAS ABLE TO PHYSICALLY PUSH MY CAR OUT OF HEAVY TRAFFIC. ONCE I WAS ABLE TO LOOK UNDER THE HOOD I NOTICED A LOT OF COOLANT POURING TO THE GROUND. I ALSO NOTICE THAT THERE WAS NO COOLANT IN THE COOLANT DEPARTMENT. I CONTACTED THE LOCAL DODGE DEALERSHIP, BUT UNFORTUNATELY THEY WERE CLOSED DUE TO THE HOLIDAYS. LUCKY I WAS ABLE TO BRING MY 2008 DODGE CHARGER TO TIRE KINGDOM. THE MANAGER OF TIRE KINGDOM IDENTIFIED THE PROBLEM AND STATED THAT MY COOLING FAN BROKE OFF CAUSING THE BROKEN PIECES OF THE FAN TO FLY INTO MY RADIATOR WHICH CAUSED MY RADIATOR DAMAGE AND LEFT A HOLE IN MY RADIATOR. ADDITIONALLY I HAD TO PAY $571.36 TO REPAIR MY 2008 DODGE CHARGER AND THE DAY BEFORE CHRISTMAS ON TOP OF THAT. I HAVE FULL RECEIPTS FOR THE REPAIRS AND I ALSO HAVE PICTURES OF THE BROKEN FAN AND DAMAGED RADIATOR. AFTER GOING TO THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S WEBSITE WWW.NHTSA.GOV I DISCOVERED THAT DODGE HAD A TSBS OUT FOR THIS PROBLEM.
