My car is having identical symptoms to a recall for it, but dodge is saying my vehicle is "Not affected", despite having identical symptoms from an identical cause. The check valve on my fuel tank has failed, and it overflows when I fill it with gas
I have own my Durango for about 4 years and I recently had the air bag recall repaired that it had. My vehicle also had a previous recall for the fuel tank filler tube inlet check valve. It causes gas to splash out at a large amount which splashes out at you, all over the truck and the ground. It does this every time I fill my tank. I looked it up online and mine was never replaced but “checked” before I owned it. I don’t know why it was replaced because my vehicles is obviously affected by this recall and the dealer will not fix it because it was previously checked. I’m scared of the danger this issues has. I’m a single dad and this is my only vehicle. It happens regularly every time I refuel.
I almost died, I escaped my car moments before it completely exploded into flames. I was driving down the interstate and it said it was overheating for a couple seconds and then the car went completely dead going 70 miles per hour. My steering wheel locked up so I fought to pull it off the road and stop it, I had a bad feeling so I checked the front of the car but it was inflamed once I got out and my seat was consumed in fire
VIN: [XXX], 2005 Dodge Durang0 SLT, 4.7L. Vehicle purchased party on 07/20/2022. Register and insured 07/21/2022. SAFETY FCA Recall #: H45. NHTSA Recall #: 09v-003; The fuel tank inlet check valve sticks in the open position, causing fuel to spill out of the filler tube when the vehicle is being refueled. Fuel in the presence of an ignition source can result in a fire. Repair Description: The fuel inlet check valve must be tested for proper operation. A vehicle with a sticking check valve must have the fuel tank replaced. On 08/08/2022 during the second attempt of refueling as the current owner. There was fuel spillback during refueling. On 08/08/2022, I contacted Daimler Chrysler at [XXX], case number [XXX] explaining the incident. However, customer service ([XXX]) stated that the safety recall had been completed but in fact per recall status according to FCA, only an INSPECTION was performed. This is not only a serious safety concern to myself and my family but also to the community at large. Especially during refueling, with the possibility of an explosion and fire caused by fuel spilling and igniting in the process. When filling up my gas tank occasionally fuel will spit out of my gas tank and all over my car and ground
Was driving 2005 dodge Durango when it stalled and stopped running at a bottom of a hill. Would not start . Replaced idiole control sensor, starter, battery, crank shaft sensor and relays. Started ran for 30 minutes again just died in the middle of the road. Will not start. If someone would of come over the hills could of hit us with sever injury or possibly death. Still wont run crank over wont run.
When filling up vehicle, fuel pump spits fuel back out when full instead of shutting off. Or pump will not fill at full speed and pump continually shuts off. Then it cannot tell when full, spitting fuel back out the filler
After filling gas tank to completion and hearing the auto stop on the fuel pump engage I saw about a liter of fuel spill out from the gas tank. Fuel was all over the vehicle and ground.
I cant put more then 10 dollars in my tank because the nosle keeps clicking and gas pours out all over me and the ground. There was a recall for this, but it is no longer happening. I just bought this car used and now my mechanic cant even find a gas tank to replace it. My legs have felt like they where on fire and became red from the gas pouring out on me, my husband has had to hose me down outside in my backyard from having fuel all over my legs. This is very dangerous, nerve racking and a total safety hazard.
Engine is intermittent stalling when driving or taking a sharp corner at Low speed. The vehicle engine has just stalled when driving at different speeds. No check engine lite on at all the engine just stalls and I can restart the engine almost all the time right away the repair facility has no idea what is going on. Need to get this figured out before an accident happens

THE GASOLINE WILL OVERFLOW FROM THE FUEL FILLER PIPE AND CAP AND NOT SHUT OFF ON ITS OWN. THIS HAPPENS WHEN FILLING THE VEHICLE STATIONARY, WITH THE CAR OFF AT GAS STATIONS. IT HAPPENS VERY CONSISTENTLY, REGARDLESS OF THE FILL RATE OF THE GAS, THE STYLE OF GASOLINE DISPENSER, OR LOCATION OF THE GAS STATION. THE GASOLINE WILL CONTINUE TO SPILL OUT FROM THE FUEL NECK UNTIL SOMEONE MANUALLY INTERVENES AND TURNS OFF THE NOZZLE. THERE HAVE BEEN 2 RECALLS ISSUED FOR THIS ISSUE WITH 2005 DODGE DURANGO'S (RECALL ID# 40367, AND 27198) HOWEVER THE RECALL IS LIMITED TO CERTAIN VINS, WHICH DOES NOT INCLUDE MINE. TO BE CLEAR, EVEN THOUGH MY VIN IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALLS, I AM EXPERIENCING THE EXACT SAME ISSUE AS DESCRIBED IN BOTH RECALLS. THE BODY ON THAT SIDE OF THE VEHICLE (DIRECTLY UNDER THE FILLER CAP) HAS BEEN COMPLETELY EATEN AWAY FROM THE EPISODES OF GASOLINE POURING OUT OVER IT.

THIS IS THE SAME CONDITION AS COVERED IN CHRYSLER RECALL NO. H45, HOWEVER, THEY ONLY RECALLED 18,951 MANUFACTURED FROM OCT-NOV 2004. THIS DURANGO (MARCH 2005), AS WELL AS MANY OTHERS WHO HAVE COMPLAINED, IS OUTSIDE OF THOSE DATES AND YET HAVE THE SAME DEFECT. H45 SHOULD BE EXPANDED TO INCLUDE ALL 2005 DURANGO MODELS.

PLUS I HAVE REPLACED THE THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR SEVERAL TIMES, ALONG WITH THE IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE, AND MAP SENSOR JUST TO TRY AND CORRECT THE STALLING WHILE EITHER SLOWING DOWN TO COME TO A STOP, OR IT ALSO OCCURS QUITE FREQUENTLY WHEN THE VEHICLE IS AT NORMAL OPERATIONAL TEMPERATURE AND JUST IDLING. THE RPM GAUGE INSIDE THE VEHICLE STARTS FLUCTUATING IRRATICALLY BEFORE STALLING. YOU LOSE ALL POWER AND CONTROL OVER THE VEHICLE WHEN IT STALLS! HOWEVER DESPITE STAYING ON TOP OF ALL VEHICLE MAINTENANCE REQUIREMENTS THE VEHICLE STILL RUNS POORLY AND HAS BEEN DOING THIS SINCE I HAVE OWNED IT AT 78,000 MILES. IT'S NOW GOT 113K ON IT AND I HONESTLY THINK THE VEHICLE IS A SAFETY HAZARD AND NEEDS THE MANUFACTURING COMPANY TO ADDRESS ALL OF THESE ISSUES! THIS IS AN ONGOING ISSUE THAT NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES I HAVE THE VEHICLE REPAIRED AND THE PARTS REPLACED IT CONTINUES TO STALL OUT AND SHIFT INCORRECTLY THERE'S 18 TROUBLE CODES THAT KEEP COMING UP INCLUDING THE AIR BAG ON THE PASSENGER SIDE, WHICH REALLY DOESN'T SEEM TO FIT WHAT'S REALLY GOING ON. NO TROUBLE CODES FOR THE FUEL TANK SHOOTING GAS OUT OF THE INLET PIPE THAT LEADS TO GAS TANK. AFTER SEVERAL SHORT TRIPS, ENOUGH LEAKING GAS WILL POOL ON TOP OF GAS TANK AND SPILL OVER PASSENGER SIDE AND REAR OF GAS TANK. GAS LEAK FROM THE PLASTIC HOUSING OF OEM FUEL PUMP. FUEL PUMP WAS REPLACED AT OWNERS EXPENSE. CORE CHARGE ON NEW FUEL PUMP INDICATE THAT THE OLD FUEL PUMP IS BEING REBUILT AND SMALL LEAKS WILL NOT BE DETECTED FROM THE REBUILT UNIT.

I TOOK THIS TO DODGE CITY IN BROOKFIELD, WI AND THEY COULD NOT FIX THE PROBLEM WITHOUT CHARGING ME FOR THE WORK (ALMOST $600). IN RESEARCHING THIS PROBLEM, I SEE MANY PEOPLE WITH THESE DURANGOS HAVE THIS ISSUE BUT CHRYSLER WILL NOT FIX IT WITHOUT CHARGING THE END USER.

I AM MAKING A COMPLAINT THAT CHRYSLER DID NOT ISSUE A RECALL BASED ON NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN NUMBER : 09V003000. I HAVE A 2005 DODGE DURANGO THAT HAS HAD A DEFECTIVE INLET CHECK VALVE IN THE FUEL TANK THAT HAS ALLOWED GAS TO FLOW BACK UP THE FILL LINE DURING FILLING OF THE TANK. I HAD QUESTIONED THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP IN THE PASSED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE IN VEHICLES OF THE YEAR OF MY VEHICLE, BUT I WAS TOLD THIS ISSUE DID NOT PERTAIN TO MY VEHICLE SINCE THIS ISSUE WAS REMEDIED ON VEHICLES MADE AFTER 01 OCTOBER OF THAT YEAR. I TOLD THEM MINE WAS STILL HAVING THE PROBLEMS LISTED. ACCORDING TO THE RECALL NUMBER 09V003000, CHRYSLER WAS SUPPOSED TO RECALL THE VEHICLES BUILT UP TO 11/30 OF THAT YEAR. ACCORDING TO WHAT I HAVE FOUND OUT TODAY THIS DID NOT OCCUR, THEY PLACED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THIS ISSUE. SO INSTEAD OF INFORMING DEALERSHIPS AND OWNERS OF THE ISSUE, THEY WOULD ONLY FIX IT IF THE OWNERS HAD THE ISSUE OF THE CHECK VALVE NOT WORKING PROPERLY. WELL, I HAVE HAD THE ISSUE FOR ALMOST THE WHOLE TIME I'VE HAD MY VEHICLE(11/17/08), AND I'VE BROUGHT IT UP TO THE LOCAL SERVICE SHOP A FEW TIMES, AND I WAS ALWAYS TOLD THERE WAS NO LISTING OF MY VEHICLE REQUIRING THE REPAIR TO BE DONE. AFTERWARDS I CONTACTED THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP TO SET UP AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE A DIAGNOSIS PERFORMED TO DETERMINE IF MY VEHICLE HAD THE PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING RELATING TO X48 EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR MY VEHICLE.

THE SLOW SPEEDS ARE NOT INHERENTLY DANGEROUS, EXCEPT FOR THE FACT THAT STALLING WHILE IN TRAFFIC AND SUDDENLY REDUCING SPEED OR STOPPING PUTS MYSELF AND OTHER MOTORIST IN JEOPARDY. WHEN BACKING INTO A PARKING SPACE, THE LOSS OF STEERING AND BRAKING CAPABILITIES CREATE A RISK OF MINOR DAMAGE TO OTHER PARKED CARS AND COULD PUT A PEDESTRIAN AT RISK WHILE BEING DISTRACTED AND NOT BEING ABLE TO STOP OR STEER AS EASILY. THE VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT IN TO A LOCAL SERVICE STATION FOR THE ISSUE, AND I WAS ADVISED THE FUEL PUMP NEEDED REPLACEMENT AND THAT THE TOP WAS CORRODED (PLASTIC). THE SERVICE SHOP THOUGHT IT WAS ODD AS THE VEHICLE WAS MAINTAINED PROPERLY, LOW MILEAGE, AND NEVER SAW THE PLASTIC JUST CRUMBLE LIKE THIS. THEY HELD ONTO THE ORIGINAL CHRYSLER FUEL PUMP FOR A WHILE AND THEN DISCARDED IT. ONCE REPAIR COMPLETED, THE VEHICLE STARTED TO BUCK (PULLING). IT WAS BROUGHT BACK TO SERVICE SHOP, AND NO CODE WAS AVAILABLE, BUT WAS TOLD COMPUTER NEEDED TO CATCH UP AS IT WAS CLEARED AT TIME OF REPAIR DUE TO THE BATTERY BEING DISCONNECTED. A WEEK PASSED VEHICLE STILL BUCKING. BROUGHT TO DEALER, KELLY CHRYSLER JEEP AND THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE ISSUE AND INSPECTED NEW FUEL PUMP REPLACEMENT FOR FAULTY WORKMANSHIP AND FOUND NOTHING. DROVE TRUCK, AND STILL BUCKING. BROUGHT TO ANOTHER LOCAL SERVICE STATION, AND THEY REPLACED TWO SENSORS, CRANK SHAFT, AND EGR. BUCKING STOPPED, BUT ENGINE LIGHT CAME BACK ON. INSPECTED AGAIN, AND STATES EVAP LEAK. LOCAL SERVICE DOES NOT HAVE SMOKE MACHINE, SO TRUCK WENT TO THE DEALER, KELLY CHRYSLER AND FOR RECALL ON INLET VALVE. UPON INSPECTION, TOP OF WHOLE FUEL TANK CORRODED AS WELL AS THE FUEL PUMP AGAIN. FIRE HAZARD! PROBLEMS ALL CONNECTED TO FUEL SYSTEM. THE INLET VALVE CAUSED THE FUEL TO SPILL OVER AND UNDER THE REAR LEFT OF THE TRUCK CAUSING CORROSION TO THE PAINT, AND THE TOP OF THE TANK AND FUEL PUMP. THIS IS THE 2ND FUEL PUMP IN 2 YEARS??? IT TOOK CHRYSLER 8 YEARS TO ADVISE ME OF THE RECALL FOR THE INLET VALVE AND NOW THERE IS ALL THIS ENSUING DAMAGE AS A RESULT BESIDES THE FIRE HAZARD AND THE FUMES THAT ROSE UP IN THE TRUCK BODY. I RECEIVED A LETTER RECENTLY FROM MY LOCAL DODGE DEALER INDICATING MY 2005 DODGE DURANGO WOULD REQUIRE REPAIR FOR SOMETHING CAUSING THE FUEL TO SPILL OUT DURING FILL UP. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME SEVERAL TIMES IN THE PAST AS I WAS UNAWARE THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS. AFTER RECEIVING THIS LETTER A FEW WEEKS AGO I INSPECTED THE QUARTER PANEL UNDERNEATH THE GAS TANK MORE CLOSELY NOTICING BUBBLING OF THE PAINT WITH CHIPPING STARTING. PRESSING ON THE PAINT IT SOUNDED CORROSIVE LIKE RUST. AS I BEGAN TO CHIP SOME OF THE PAINT AWAY I DISCOVERED RUST AND TWO HOLES THAT WERE COMPLETELY THROUGH. LOOKING THROUGH THE HOLES I COULD SEE RUST BEHIND THE BODY. AFTER REVIEWING SEVERAL CAR AND DODGE FORUMS I SEE THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED TO SEVERAL PEOPLE IN THE SAME AREA OF THE DRIVE QUARTER PANEL. I CAN ONLY ASSUME THERE IS A CORRELATION BETWEEN THE FUEL PROBLEM AND THE RUST THAT APPEARS TO HAVE COME INSIDE OUT TO THE BODY OF THE CAR. THERE IS NO OTHER RUST ON THIS CAR AND HAS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED. I CONTACTED MY LOCAL DEALER WHO INFORMED ME THAT THE RECALL ON THE INLET VALVE IS STILL VALID HOWEVER RUST WOULD NOT BE. EXPERIENCING SAME ISSUE AS REPORTED IN NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN NUMBER 09V003000 - FUEL-SPIT BACK PROBLEMS CAUSED BY STUCK INLET CHECK VALVES IN THE FUEL TANK FILLER TUBES.
