TIPM / PCM (Computer modules) these items are affecting most Dodge vehicles that is listed already for recalls only in 2011-2013 and one earlier. This is happening in a lot of Dodges, mine is 1D4HB48N76F[XXX] (2006 Durango 4.7 SLT). They will stop running anywhere, it shuts the fuel pump off where the vehicles no longer gets gas and you have a full tank. It is only a computerized Dealer fix. Their recall for some vehicles will fix my 2006 also by the simply relay bypass that they are installing. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO FIVE STAR CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM OF MACON (3068 RIVERSIDE DR, MACON, GA 31210) IN 2010 WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE CONTACT THEN TOOK THE VEHICLE TO COUNTRYSIDE CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM (846 E 3RD ST, JACKSON, GA 30233) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER NEEDING TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 64,504.

2006 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN SXT, SAFETY PROBLEMS WITH LIFT GATE WHEN OPENING WITH KEY FAUB; LIFT GATE OPENS AND IMMEDIATELY GOES DOWN (WHEN STATIONARY). IF NEEDING TO GET GROCERIES, OR ANYTHING FROM THE REAR OF VAN, NEED TO HAVE ONE PERSON HOLDING THE LIFT GATE, SO THE OTHER PERSON CAN REMOVE ITEMS FROM VAN, TO AVOID THE LIFTGATE CRASHING DOWN ON YOU (CAUSING INJURY AND INABILITY FOR VEHICLE TO FUNCTION SAFELY). ALSO, PROBLEM WITH LEFT SLIDING DOOR LOCK; DOES NOT LOCK AND UNLOCK WITH KEY FAUB; HAVE TO MANUALLY LOCK AND UNLOCK, EVEN THOUGH THE REST OF THE DOORS LOCK/UNLOCK, WITH THE KEY FAUB. COUPLE OF YEARS AGO, PUT GROCERIES IN THE LEFT SIDE OF SLIDING DOOR AND THIS DOOR WOULD NOT CLOSE, ELECTRONICALLY, OR MANUALLY. HAD TO DRIVE HOME IN THE RAIN WITH THE LEFT SIDE SLIDING DOOR, WIDE OPEN. BELIEVE THE HATCH LIFT SUPPORT PART FOR RIGHT AND LEFT NEED REPLACING, HOWEVER, THE LEFT SLIDING LOCK/UNLOCK FEATURE MAY. OR MAY NOT BE ASSOCIATED WITH THE ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS. TRANSFER CASE CAN BE HEARD ENGAGING EVEN WHEN VEHICLE IS LOCKED AND UNOCCUPIED. ENGAGING IS SOMETIMES TRIGGERED BY THE REMOTE WHEN LOCKING/UNLOCKING DOORS. 4 LO LIGHT STARTED TO FLASH THEN MY BACK WHEELS LOCKED UP WHEN I WAS DRIVING 70 MPH ON THE BYPASS WITH CHILDREN IN THE TRUCK. IT IS A MIRACLE WE DIDN'T ROLL OVER, BUT ANOTHER TRUCK WAS FORCED OFF OF THE ROAD WHILE I USED TWO LANES TO TRY TO CONTROL THE DURANGO. I TOOK THE TRUCK TO THE DEALER AND NO ONE COULD FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT (NO ACTIVE CODE)... IT DROVE FINE FOR A FEW DAYS THEN THE SRVC 4X4 LIGHT CAME ON AND THE TRUCK SWITCHED INTO NEUTRAL WHILE TRYING TO CROSS A STREET... I COULDN'T MOVE IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY INTERSECTION. TOWED THE TRUCK TO THE SHOP. SHOP STATED THEY DIDN'T KNOW WHAT TO FIX. STILL NO ACTIVE CODE, TRUCK SEEMS FINE. I DROVE IT A FEW MORE DAYS AND NOW IT HAS SLIPPED INTO A LOWER GEAR. CANNOT TRAVEL OVER 35 MPH.. PARKING, REVERSE AND TIGHT TURNS ARE VERY DIFFICULT. MY TAKE OFF SPEED IS NEARLY NONEXISTENT. TRUCK SHIFTED BACK INTO NEUTRAL ON ITS OWN AS I WAS MAKING A RIGHT HAND TURN. VEHICLE HAS STALLED SEVERAL TIMES IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD AS WELL AS NOT STARTING AT IRREGULAR MOMENTS. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DODGE DEALERSHIP AND AUTO REPAIR SHOP. EACH TIME TO HAVE SOMETHING DIFFERENT FIXED, FIRST TIME IT WAS BATTERY AND LEADS, NEXT IT WAS ALTERNATOR, THEN NEW BELT , AND AFTER EACH FIX THE PROBLEM WOULD COME BACK, FINALLY AN HONEST MECHANIC EXPLAINED THAT I HAD TO REMOVE LEADS TO BATTERY FOR 5 MINUTES BEFORE CAR COULD CRANK AGAIN. THIS MAKES NO SENSE. HE CHECKED CAM SENSOR AND CRANKSHAFT SENSOR - ALL GOOD TOO. THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM FOR OVER TWO YEARS. THE WORST TIME WAS WHEN I WAS NOT PRINCIPAL CITY STREET AT RUSH HOUR WITH 3 CHILDREN IN THE VEHICLE. OF COURSE, I WAS MORE WORRIED ABOUT GETTING THE CHILDREN OUT OF THE STALLED VEHICLE AND SAFELY TO THE SIDE OF THE STREET BEFORE PUSHING THE VEHICLE TO A NEARBY DODGE DEALERSHIP. IT SEEMS OLDER DODGE DURANGOS LIKE MINE FROM 2006 HAVE THIS COME PROBLEM. WHY HASN'T A SOURCE TO THIS PROBLEM BEEN IDENTIFIED AND A MANUFACTURER RECALL SOLUTION BEEN PROVIDED? TWICE I HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE IN A DODGE DEALERSHIP AND NEW EXPENSES FOR DIFFERENT THINGS WERE PRESCRIBED, AND NONE FIXED THE PROBLEM. ON 6/14/2015 I WAS ABOUT TO BACK MY TRAILER INTO MY YARD, WHEN MY GEAR SHIFT COLUMN SELECTOR LOCKED IN PARK. I DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND IT WOULD NOT BUDGE. ADDITIONALLY, MY BRAKE LIGHTS ARE NO LONGER WORKING. PRIOR TO ALL OF THESE PROBLEMS I HAD TO REPLACE MY IGNITION FOR IT WAS LOCKING AND WOULD NOT TURN TO THE ON POSITION OR ACCESSORIES POSITION. IT COST ME $400 DOLLARS FOR A NEW IGNITION TO BE INSTALLED BY THE DEALER AND NOW I HAVE WORSE PROBLEMS THAN BEFORE. SO I BEGAN RESEARCHING AND HERE IS MY FINDINGS: 1) SAFETYRECALL G28 -IGNITION/PARK SHIFT INTERLOCK IN 2001 AND 2002 MODELS FOR MANY VEHICLES WHICH INCLUDED THE DURANGO. 2) THE BRAKE TRANSMISSION SHIFT INTERLOCK CONNECTOR HAS MALFUNCTIONED WILL NOT ALLOW THE SHIFTER TO MOVE. SO IF THE DEALER KNOWS ABOUT THESE RECALLS WHY DIDN'T THEY FIX THEM FREE OF CHARGE.

APPROXIMATELY DURING SUMMER OF 2013, UPON STARTING ENGINE, THE IGNITION WOULD "STICK" WHEN KEY WAS TURNED FORWARD. DURANGO WOULD HAVE TO BE TURNED OFF AND KEY TAKEN OUT OF IGNITION SWITCH TO TRY IT AGAIN. THEN, UPON SHIFTING INTO REVERSE AND BACKING UP, THE VEHICLE WOULD COME TO AN ABRUPT HALT AND BE IMMOVABLE FOR A TIME, USUALLY UNTIL PUTTING INTO PARK AND RE-STARTING VEHICLE. THIS IS WHEN THE MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON. WE HAD TO HAVE VEHICLE TOWED AT WHICH TIME THE WHEELS WERE LOCKED IN PLACE, CAUSING BLACK SKID MARKS FROM ITS POINT OF TOW TO TOW TRUCK. UPON FIRST PURCHASING AT A DEALERSHIP THE PURCHASE WAS AS A USED VEHICLE, SO NO WARRANTY IS OR WAS IN PLACE. A FEW MONTHS LATER WHEN FILLING THE TANK AT A GAS STATION THE FIRST INCIDENT OF PROPULSION OF GASOLINE FORCING OUT OF THE TANK, FIRST HAPPENED. THEN A COUPLE OF TIMES WHEN TRYING TO START THE VEHICLE THE MOTOR WOULD NOT START. USING AN OBD TO CHECK CODES THERE WAS NO ERROR CODES BUT STILL ENDED UP CLEARING IT ANYWAYS WHICH ALLOWED THE VEHICLE TO START (WHICH MEANS ITS THE COMPUTER). NOW, THE FRONT PASSENGER WINDOW IS DOWN AND WILL NOT GO BACK UP, CHECKED THE MOTOR AND THE MOTOR FOR THE WINDOW IS FINE, BUT CHECKING THE SWITCH IT WOULD ONLY UNLOCK DOOR, NOT ALLOW LOCK AND ABSOLUTELY NO WINDOW CONTROL AT ALL FROM EITHER THE PASSENGER DOOR SWITCH OR DRIVER SIDE SWITCH. WHEN LOOKING AT THE SWITCHES TURNS OUT THAT THE CIRCUIT BOARDS ARE NOT SOLDERED. I HAVE A 2006 DODGE DURANGO, BOUGHT IT USED ABOUT 4 YEARS AGO. ABOUT A YEAR AND HALF AGO, APPROXIMATELY MARCH OF 2013, THE VEHICLE STARTED TO STALL WHILE DRIVING. IT HAPPENED AT ALL SPEEDS AND AFTER IT HAPPENING MULTIPLE TIMES WE FIGURED OUT THAT IT HAPPENED WHEN IT WAS WET/RAINING OUT. THIS IS EXTREMELY SCARY AND DANGEROUS WHEN GOING 70MPH ON THE HIGHWAY...TO HAVE YOUR VEHICLE JERK NUMEROUS TIMES AND THEN COMPLETELY SHUTOFF (AKA NO POWER AT ALL!). WE HAVE SPENT A FEW THOUSAND DOLLARS SINCE SPRING OF 2013 TRYING TO FIX THE ISSUE. WE WORKED CLOSELY WITH OUR DEALER TO FIGURE OUT THE EXACT PROBLEM...FIGURED OUT IT WAS ELECTRICAL (POSSIBLY WHEN THE WINDSHIELD WIPER ARE USED...)BUT THAT WAS ABOUT AS FAR AS WE GOT. SOME OF THE THINGS THEY FOUND AND/OR FIXED OR REPLACED ARE AS FOLLOWS: WIRING THAT WAS FRAYED, RE-GROUND NUMEROUS WIRES, REPLACED A HANDFUL OF SENSORS, RESEALED CONNECTIONS BETWEEN ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS AND MAIN MODULE (AS WELL AS RESEALED THE BOXES THEMSELVES SINCE WATER WAS FOUND IN THEM), REPLACED THE ELECTRICAL MODULE ($2K), AND REPLACED ENTIRE ELECTRICAL BOX(WHICH INCLUDED HAVING TO RE-WIRE)...FOUND A USED ONE SINCE BRAND NEW WOULD HAVE BEEN $1200! . IT ALSO MAKES THE CLICKING SOUND AS IF IT IS ENGAGING WHEN YOU UNLOCK THE DOORS (POSSIBLE ELECTRICAL PROBLEM?) IT CAN ALSO HAPPEN WHEN DRIVING WHILE TURNING A CORNER, SUCH AS THE SHARP CORNERS IN A DRIVE-THRU. THE EFFECT IS SUCH THAT ONE WHEEL LOCKS UP AS IF ONE FRONT WHEEL HAS THE EMERGENCY BRAKE ON. WHEN GOING STRAIGHT THERE IS NO ISSUE. I HAVE RESEARCHED ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND FORUMS WHERE OTHERS ARE HAVING THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM IS THAT IT IS RANDOM AND INTERMITTENT, AND DIFFICULT TO REPRODUCE AT THE DEALERSHIP. OFTEN THEIR RESPONSE IS TO SIMPLY REPLACE ONE OR MORE OF THE THREE MAIN COMPONENTS WITHOUT VERIFYING THAT IS THE ISSUE. THIS CAN BE QUITE EXPENSIVE FOR THE OWNER AND FRUSTRATING AFTER SPENDING LARGE SUMS OF MONEY AND THE ISSUE REMAINS UNSOLVED. I FEEL IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE AN INEXPERIENCED DRIVER MIGHT HAVE THIS ISSUE IN A DRIVE-THRU, AND TO OVERCOME THE LACK OF MOVEMENT AFTER PRESSING THE GAS PEDAL, THEY MAY REV THE ENGINE. IT REALLY SEEMS THAT THIS CAR HAS SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERNS AS THIS AGAIN SEEMS TO BE ELECTRICAL IN NATURE AND POTENTIALLY COULD BE FATAL IF DRIVING AND HAVING COMPLETE LOSE OF CONTROL. THE DASH BOARD LIGHTS/ WARNING LIGHTS GO OFF AND ON, AND THE ODOMETER AND RPM GAUGES BOUNCE FROM ZERO TO LIKE 5000 RPM WHILE DRIVING. THE AC AND RADIO AND DVD AND NAVIGATION ALL SHUT OFF AND ON ALSO WHILE DRIVING. I TOOK IT TO CROWN MOTORS ON JUNE 21 AND HAD A DIAGNOSTIC TESTS RAN AND NOTHING CAME UP ALL WAS FINE. THEY TOLD ME TO BRING IT BACK IN WHEN IT DID IT AND TO LEAVE IT RUN WHEN I GO INSIDE TO LET THEM KNOW. I TOOK BACK DOWN THERE ON JUNE 24 AS IT WAS DOING IT ALL AGAIN. THEY IMMEDIATELY TOOK IT BACK TO THE SHOP AND STATED YOU DEFINITELY HAVE SOMETHING WRONG. THEY TOLD AFTER AN HOUR THAT THEY COULD ONLY GET THE READING UP TO THE ECM AND ANYTHING AFTER THAT IT IS NOT SHOWING UP THAT IT IS DEAD. THEY CALLED THE LEAD ENGINEER AT DODGE TO TRY AND FIND A SOLUTION. I TALKED TO THEM ON JUNE 25 AND STILL NO ANSWER. THEY TOLD ME THEY HAD TO PUT $10 IN GAS AND WAS GOING TO CHARGE THAT TO ME AS THEY LOST THE SIGNAL TO DIAGNOSTIC SUE TO TURNING THE VEHICLE OFF. THEY DROVE AROUND FOUR DIFFERENT TIMES TO TRY AND REESTABLISH THE PROBLEM AND HAS NOT HAPPENED. I CALLED THEM TODAY JUNE 27,2013 AND TOLD I COULD COME AND PICK UP THE VEHICLE AS THEY CAN NOT GET THE VEHICLE TO DO THE PROBLEMS AGAIN TO REESTABLISH THE CONNECTIONS. THEY ALSO SAID IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN TO JUST BRING IT BACK OVER SO THEY CAN REESTABLISH THE CONNECTION FOR THE PROBLEMS. I KNOW THAT THERE HAS BEEN RECALLS FOR THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM ON THESE VEHICLES. THEY DEALER TOLD THEY WERE ALL CLOSED OUT AND MY VEHICLE WAS NOT ONE OF THEM. STILL HAVE NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEMS WITH MY 2006 DURANGO. I DO NOT FEEL COMFORTABLE DRIVING MY FAMILY AROUND IN IT DUE TO A POSSIBLE FIRE LIKE SOME HAVE HAD OR THE ENGINE SHUTTING OFF GOING DOWN THE HIGHWAY. *TR

THE TECHNICIAN RESET THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT BUT THE LIGHT CONTINUED TO ILLUMINATE. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE POWER TRAIN MODULE WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED AFTER THE REPLACEMENT OF THE PART. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. AS I WAS EXITING A HIGHWAY, MY 2006 DODGE DURANGO SUDDENLY STALLED OUT. THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AFTER IT STALLED. I LOST CONTROL OF STEERING AND WAS UNABLE TO BRAKE. I NEARLY CRASHED INTO THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME, AND WAS BARELY ABLE TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL ENOUGH TO RUN INTO THE CURB TO STOP MY VEHICLE! I WAS NOT ABLE TO RE-START IT AND HAD TO BE TOWED. WHILE WAITING FOR POLICE TO ARRIVE, I WAS NEARLY REAR-ENDED MULTIPLE TIMES. IT WAS TOWED TO A SHOP AND THE MECHANIC WAS ABLE TO START IT UP WITH NO PROBLEM THE NEXT MORNING. HE CHECKED EVERYTHING, AND RAN ALL DIAGNOSTIC TESTS - ALL CAME BACK SHOWING NO PROBLEMS. THERE IS CLEARLY A PROBLEM - AND THERE ARE MAN, MANY, MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT IT ALL OVER THE INTERNET. IF I HAD BEEN ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN THIS HAPPENED, I COULD HAVE BEEN IN A VERY SERIOUS ACCIDENT AND COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED, OR KILLED SOMEONE ELSE, SINCE I LOST COMPLETE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND WAS UNABLE TO STEER OR BRAKE. I FIRST NOTICED A PROBLEM WHEN LEAVING WORK BY SIMPLY UNLOCKING MY 06 DURANGO (ALL WHEEL DRIVE/ 4 WHEEL DRIVE) WITH THE KEY FOB THE TRANSFER CASE CONTROL MOTOR STARTS SHIFTING THE TRUCK IN AND OUT FROM AWD TO 4WD AND I HAVEN'T EVEN OPENED THE DOOR!! AS THE WEEKS PASS IT DOES THIS SEVERAL MORE TIMES BUT WHAT IS MORE UNNERVING IS THAT AS I AM DRIVING AT HWY SPEEDS, 60 TO 70 MPH, OR ANY SPEED REALLY, MY "4 WHEEL LOW" LIGHT ON THE DASH WILL START TO FLICKER AS IF IT IS TRYING TO SHIFT INTO 4 WHEEL LOW UN-COMMANDED. AFTER SEARCHING SEVERAL FORUMS I FIND THIS TO BE A COMMON CHRONIC ELECTRICAL PROBLEM WITH DURANGOS AND A HUGE SAFETY RISK. PLEASE UNDERSTAND THAT MAX SPEED FOR A 4 WHEEL DRIVE VEHICLE THAT IS IN 4 WHEEL LOW IS ABOUT 10 TO 15 MPH, THE GEAR RATIO IS EXTREMELY LOW AND INTENDED FOR MAXIMUM TRACTION WHEN OFF ROAD. IF THIS VEHICLE SHIFTS INTO 4 WHEEL LOW AT 70 MPH ALL 4 WHEELS WILL COME TO A STOP AND THE DRIVER WILL MOST LIKELY LOOSE TOTAL CONTROL. AT THAT SPEED THIS IS A DANGEROUS COMBINATION. I HAVE READ OF THIS HAPPENING TO DURANGOS WITH SERIOUS DAMAGE AND HUGE EXPENSE FOR THE OWNER. THIS VERY SCENARIO HAPPENED TO A CO-WORKERS WIFE WITH HIS KIDS IN THEIR 06 DURANGO, LUCKILY SHE WAS ONLY TRAVELING AT ABOUT 30 TO 35 MPH AND NO ACCIDENT OCCURRED. NOW MY KEY FOB WONT EVEN OPEN THE DOOR, IT ACTS AS IF ITS DEAD OR BROKEN. I HAVE TO USE THE KEY TO UNLOCK THE TRUCK MANUALLY WHICH SETS OFF THE ALARM EVERY TIME I UNLOCK THE DOOR. THE SAME ELECTRICAL PROBLEM I STARTED WITH IS TIED TO THE 4 WHEEL DRIVE ELECTRICALLY, ANOTHER COMMON CHRONIC PROBLEM. WE WERE DRIVING OUR 2006 DODGE DURANGO FOR ABOUT 5 MINUTES WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE DASH BOARD LIGHTS STARTED FLASHING. MY HUSBAND WAS ABLE TO VEER OFF THE ROAD ON A SIDE STREET AND COAST DOWN INTO A PARKING LOT. BY THIS POINT THE CAR WAS COMPLETELY UNRESPONSIVE. SMOKE STARTED TO COME OUT OF THE VEHICLE VENTS ON THE DASHBOARD. WE THOUGHT MAYBE A PART BROKE AT FIRST. MY HUSBAND OPENED THE HOOD AND THERE WAS NO VISIBLE FIRES AND NOT A LOT OF SMOKE. THE CONTACT WAS FORCED TO DRIVE ONTO THE EMERGENCY LANE. THE CHECK ENGINE AND AIR BAG LIGHTS BEGAN TO ILLUMINATE INTERMITTENTLY. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED THAT THERE WAS NO AIR BAG IN THE VEHICLE. THE BRAKES WERE CURRENTLY MAKING A GRINDING NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER REPEATEDLY WHERE THEY CONTINUED TO TURN THE WARNING LIGHTS OFF; HOWEVER, THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE DEALER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING AND ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER FAILED AND SHE WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR HALF OF THE REPAIR COST. THE FAILURES OCCURRED IMMEDIATELY AFTER SHE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 91,000.

WE OWN A 2006 DODGE DURANGO AND OVER THE SUMMER WHILE DRIVING MY RADIO STARTED AND STOPPED WORKING, MY NAVIGATION SYSTEM STARTING BLINKING, AND THEN FINALLY MY CAR STOPPED WORKING ALTOGETHER. OVER THE WEEKEND I HEARD ON HEADLINE NEWS THAT THE 2008 DODGE CARAVANS ARE BEING RECALLED FOR MOISTURE GETTING INTO THE AIRBAGS. I CALLED AND EXPLAINED MY ISSUE WITH OUR 2006 DODGE DURANGO AND THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WAS NOT UNDER RECALL. INTERESTING TO NOTE IS THAT THE DEALERSHIP INQUIRES ABOUT THE MILEAGE ON YOUR VEHICLE. I WAS TOLD BY THEIR REPRESENTATIVE THAT LOW MILEAGE VEHICLES CAN HAVE A CHANCE AT "GOODWILL" REPAIRS BUT NOT HIGH MILEAGE VEHICLES. 2006 DODGE DURANGO HAS HAD MULTIPLE ENGINE & ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS WITHIN 6 MONTH PERIOD. FIRST CAR LOST ALL POWER WHILE DRIVING AT 35 MPH, TOOK ALL STRENGTH TO GET CAR TO SHOULDER OF THE ROAD W/O POWER STEERING & LOCKED STEERING COLUMN. LOCAL MECHANIC SAID THAT COMPUTER WAS FRIED & COVERED UNDER EMISSIONS WARRANTY. TOWED TO DODGE DEALERSHIP WHO SAID THERE WAS NOT A COMPUTER PROBLEM, JUST CAM SHAFT NEEDED REPLACING & RECALL ON INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER. AFTER $450 REPAIR FOR CAM SHAFT & TOW, A WEEK LATER CAR STARTED HAVING ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS. APROX EVERY OTHER TIME I WOULD START CAR, THE RADIO & ELECTRICAL DISPLAY (CLOCK) ON RADIO WOULD NOT WORK--APPEARED TO NOT GET POWER. SIX WEEKS LATER, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. BY THIS TIME, ORIGINAL DODGE DEALERSHIP HAD BEEN CLOSED, SO WENT TO ANOTHER DODGE DEALER FOR SERVICE. THEY FOUND ANOTHER WIRING PROBLEM WITH ENGINE. COULD NOT IDENTIFY PROBLEM WITH AUDIO/CLOCK. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON ABOUT 2 MONTHS LATER. THIS TIME LOCAL MECHANIC ADVISED IT WAS A FUEL PUMP PROBLEM. STARTER DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE ENGAGING THE ENGINE AT ALL. DIAGNOSED AS STARTED MOTOR PROBLEM, STARTER MOTOR REPLACED, BUT CAR STILL NOT FIXED. THEN TOLD BATTERY TERMINALS & CABLES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. CAR NOW STARTS, BUT AUDIO/DISPLAY ISSUE STILL UNRESOLVED. CONCERN THAT THERE IS A LARGER PROBLEM WITH THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM OF THIS VEHICLE, WHICH IS THE ROOT CAUSE OF ALL RECENT PROBLEMS. HI, MY NAME IS [XXX] , AND I NEED SOME HELP. JANUARY 9TH 2007 I PURCHASED A 2006 DODGE DURANGO FROM BUDDY JONES FORD IN GREENWOOD MISSISSIPPI. ON MAY 31ST 2008, THE TRUCK BURN TO THE GROUND. THIS OCCURRED WHILE MY GIRLFRIEND WAS DRIVING IT; SHE BARELY MADE IT OUT OF THE TRUCK IN TIME. NEEDLESS TO SAY I WAS AT A LOST OF UNDERSTANDING HOW THIS COULD HAVE HAPPEN. I DISCOVERED THAT THIS PARTICULAR SUV HAD AN INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER THAT WOULD OVERHEAT AND SOMETIMES IGNITE INTO FLAMES. I ALSO DISCOVERED THAT THERE WERE MANY OTHER CONSUMERS THAT HAD EXPERIENCED THEY'RE DODGE DURANGO'S BURNING TO GROUND, WHILE JUST SITTING IN THE GARAGE. SO I THEN CONTACTED CHRYSLER TO PLEAD MY CASE. AT THIS TIME THEY TOLD ME ABOUT THE RECALL, AND THAT MY VEHICLE WAS ONE OF THE VEHICLES IN QUESTION. THEN THEY AGREED TO SEND A LOCAL CONTRACTED INSPECTOR TO CHECK OUT MY VEHICLE. THE CONCLUSION OF HIS INSPECTION WAS THAT THE TRUCK BURNED THROUGH NO FAULT OF CHRYSLER'S DO NOT HAVE THE RESOURCES TO PROVE THEM WRONG, OR HAVE IT INSPECTED MYSELF. MY INSURANCE HAD LAPSED AT THAT TIME, AND I KNOW THAT IS MY RESPONSIBILITY. NOW 2 AND HALF MONTHS LATER, I HAVED MOVED OUT OF STATE AND ONCE AGAIN JUST LEAVING MY HOUSE NOT GOING ABOVE 30 MPH AND THE SAME THING HAPPENS AGAIN. ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AND I LOSE POWER, I WAS BARELY ABLE TO TURN THE WHEEL ENOUGH TO GET THE VEHICLE ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I WAS ABLE TO START THE CAR AGAIN WITHIN A COUPLE MINUTES AND SAFELY RETURN HOME (IT WAS DARK), HOWEVER THE ENGINE LIGHT WAS STILL ON AND IT FELT AS THOUGH IT WOULD LOOSE POWER AGAIN, LIKE I WAS DRIVING WITH THE PARKING BRAKE ON. ALSO ON MY DRIVE HERE FROM CALIFORNIA (TO INDIANA) I LOST MY CRUISE CONTROL. THIS SECOND INCIDENT HAPPEND TONIGHT AND WILL HAVE TO BE TOWED TO DODGE DEALER TOMORROW. *JB

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 DODGE DURANGO. THE CONTACT TOOK HER VEHICLE TO BE REPAIRED UNDER RECALL # 9378792861. AFTER THE REPAIR WAS PERFORMED, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO STALL. THE DEALER HAS HAD THE VEHICLE SINCE JUNE 21, 2007 AND HAS BEEN UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF FAILURE. THE DEALER PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC, WHICH CAUSED THEM TO PLACE 50 MILES PER DAY ON THE VEHICLE IN AN ATTEMPT TO LOCATE THE CAUSE OF FAILURE. THE DEALER EVEN ASKED IF ONE OF THE TECHNICIANS COULD TAKE THE VEHICLE HOME. THE RECALL NUMBER THAT WAS PROVIDED COULD NOT BE LOCATED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 7,000.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE IS NOW IN THE SHOP. THE DEALER HAS REPLACED THE PART SEVERAL TIMES, BUT THE FAILURE PERSISTS. THE CONTACT IS REFERRING TO NHSTA RECALL # 07V092000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: INSTRUMENT PANEL). THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 7,100 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,340.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNED A 2006 DODGE DURANGO. THE CONTACT AWOKE TO THE SMELL OF SMOKE, LOOKED OUT HER WINDOW, AND NOTICED HER ENTIRE GARAGE IN FLAMES. THE FIRE SPREAD THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE THREE STORY HOME AND KILLED THE FAMILY CAT. THREE VEHICLES WERE ALSO DESTROYED: A 2006 DURANGO, 1996 GRAND AM, AND A 2001 FORD TAURUS. SHE SPOKE WITH DODGE TO FIND OUT IF THE FIRE WAS CAUSED BY THE DURANGO, BUT DODGE RULED OUT THAT POSSIBILITY. THIS WAS AN ISSUE RAISED BY INVESTIGATORS. THE CONTACT LATER SAW ON THE NEWS THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE DURANGO. ON MAY 30, 2007, SHE RECEIVED RECALL NOTICE # 07V092000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: INSTRUMENT PANEL). DURING TIMES OF LOW TEMPERATURES (BELOW 40 DEGREES) THE FOLLOWING OCCURS INTERMITTENTLY. THE RADIO CONTROLS ON THE STEERING WHEEL DO NOT WORK PROPERLY, THE RADIO VOLUME SPONTANEOUSLY GOES DOWN, THE HEADLIGHTS AND DASH LIGHTS FLASH OFF AND ON, THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS WILL COME ON, THE INDICATOR LIGHTS FOR THE AIRBAG INDICATE THE AIRBAG IS NOT ACTIVATED. I AM SURE THERE ARE MORE GLITCHES; HOWEVER THESE ARE THE ONES THAT STAND OUT. THIS MORNING, HOWEVER, THE CRUISE CONTROL WOULD NOT STOP ACCELERATING THE VEHICLE. THE OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE IS APPROXIMATELY 22 DEGREES. I SET THE CRUISE FOR 75, WHEN I REVIEWED THE SPEED, THE VEHICLE HAD ACCELERATED TO 95 AND THE CRUISE WOULD NOT SHUT OFF EITHER BY THE CRUISE CONTROL CONTROLS OR BY BRAKING. IN FACT THE BRAKES HAD DIFFICULTY SLOWING THE VEHICLE DOWN TO 75 AND WHEN RELEASED THE VEHICLE WOULD AGAIN ACCELERATE. WHEN PLACED INTO NEUTRAL, THE VEHICLE CONTINUED REVVING AND WHEN PLACED IN DRIVE IT AGAIN ACCELERATED. WHEN I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO SLOW THE VEHICLE BY PLACING IT IN NEUTRAL AND CONTINUE TO PUSH HARD ON THE BRAKES, I MANEUVERED THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF. IT THEN WOULD NOT RE-START. THE IGNITION WOULDN'T TURN OVER FOR APPROXIMATELY 5 MINUTES. ONCE RESTARTED THE VEHICLE APPEARS TO BE WORKING FINE. I REPORTED THIS TO THE DEALER THIS MORNING. THEY WERE ALREADY AWARE OF THE PREVIOUS IRREGULARITIES AND ADVISED THEY WOULD BE TALKING TO THE SUPPORT CENTER TODAY. THEY HAVE ALREADY REPLACED THE CLOCK SPRING IN THE VEHICLE AND THAT DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THEY HAVE ADVISED THAT THEY ARE AWARE THERE IS A PROBLEM BUT THEY DO NOT KNOW HOW TO FIX IT.*JB

AIR CONDITIONING NOT COOLING PROPERLY. TESTED VENT TEMPERATURES IN IDENTICAL CONDITIONS USING AN INFRARED TEMPERATURE PROBE AND A NORMAL ANALOG TEMPERATURE PROBE. USED 1997 MERCURY MOUNTAINEER IN TEST WITH MY NEW 2006 DODGE DURANGO. TESTED INITIAL LEFT CENTER VENT TEMP AND THE TEMP AFTER 1, 2, 3, 4 AND 5 MINUTES USING THE DASH VENTS ONLY AND MAX COOL AND MAX FAN. THE NINE YEAR OLD MOUNTAINEER VENT TEMP WAS 9 OR 10 DEGREES COOLER AFTER 5 MINUTES. THE OLDER VEHICLE COOLED FASTER AND PROVIDED COLDER AIR TEMPS. THIS TESTING WAS DONE AFTER NOTICING THE DURANGO WASN'T COOLING AS WELL AS MY OLD MOUNTAINEER. *JB

INTERMITTENT AND SPONTANEOUS ACTIVATION OF THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS AND WASHERS DURING OPERATION OF THE STEERING WHEEL UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS. STEERING WHEEL SOUND SYSTEM CONTROLS WORK ERRATICALLY OR IN REVERSE OF NORMAL FUNCTION. IGNITION REMAINS ENGAGED UNTIL SWITCH IS RECYCLED. SEEMS TO BE LOW TEMPERATURE RELATED( HAPPENS MORE OFTEN IN THE COOLER AM). VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO THE DEALER MULTIPLE TIMES FOR REPAIR ATTEMPTS. CLOCK SPRING,MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH,INDIVIDUAL AUDIO CONTROLS, AND THE FRONT CONTROL MODULE HAVE BEEN REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY BY THE DEALER WITH OUT CORRECTING THE PROBLEM. DEALER STATES THAT CHRYSLER WILL NOT AUTHORIZE ADDITIONAL DIAGNOSIS. I AM CONCERNED THAT THIS IS AN ELECTRICAL SHORT IN THE STEERING COLUMN THAT MAY RESULT IN AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT, OR A VEHICLE FIRE, AND INJURIES TO MY FAMILY.
