Fuel spills out when you fill it up. I read there were safety recalls due to this issue for 2006 Dodge Durango's but a recall isn't appearing for my vehicle. When filling it fills fine until almost a full tank. Once it reaches full tank the gas pump clicks off then a gush of fuel spills out of my car. I bought it last year and it does it every time we put a full tank in it if you don't catch it and manually shut pump off before full. Bought the car used
Every time filling full of gas, once full it SPRAYS gas into the air for 2 to 3 seconds. It's evident this is a manufacturing defect as multiple self reported incidents can be found online throught the years. This is vreating a significant fire risk as other vehicles can be pulling up near by. Date provided isn't accurate as this is constant if we let it fill
Several repairs for sensor Labor: Check and advise the check engine light is on and the vehicle wants to stall when accelerating. Vehicle loses engine power but has not stalled completely (low/reverse solenoid circuit. Test and replaced transmission solenoid assembly; cost: $819.65, prior to that $1200.00, $546.00. I'm unemployed and the truck costing more repairs. The plastic on radiator has cracked all the way cross and leaks coolant, stop radiator leak encourage by dealership and to seal leak or replace radiator (it's upsetting and its cost me thousands of dollars, my last two SUV was dodge Durango and I love them but this one has given the most problems and cost me financially. Plus, when I purchased the dealership replace windshield because of flaw in glass and it wasn't repaired correctly and Oakland County Sheriff said my truck was dangerous, but you said it was fine. Fuel erupts from fuel filler neck EVERY TIME the fuel tank is filled, even when filling very slowly. A half-gallon or more of fuel ends up violently spitting out of the filler neck onto people in the vicinity, onto the side of the car, and onto the ground—every time the vehicle is refueled. Many owners apparently have the exact same issue, judging by the large number of complaints on Durango and Dodge forums. Apparently, there was a recall covering model-year 2005 Durangos for this issue, but the issue is present on our 2006 Durango. This is a clear safety defect that could easily create an extremely dangerous situation.
TIPM / PCM (Computer modules) these items are affecting most Dodge vehicles that is listed already for recalls only in 2011-2013 and one earlier. This is happening in a lot of Dodges, mine is 1D4HB48N76F[XXX] (2006 Durango 4.7 SLT). They will stop running anywhere, it shuts the fuel pump off where the vehicles no longer gets gas and you have a full tank. It is only a computerized Dealer fix. Their recall for some vehicles will fix my 2006 also by the simply relay bypass that they are installing. THERE WAS INDEED A RECALL FOR THE 2005 AND 2006 MODEL YEARS OF MY VEHICLE FROM CHRYSLER FOR A FUEL SAFETY ISSUE OF MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF FUEL SPILLING OUT OF THE TANK DURING FUEL UPS. THEY ACKNOWLEDGE, THE RECALL WAS CUT OFF EXACTLY ONE DAY PRIOR TO THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE'S MANUFACTURING DATE. THE PART IDENTIFIED WAS A FAULT WITH THE FUEL INLET CHECK VALVE. DODGE IDENTIFIED THE ONLY RECOURSE FOR THIS VEHICLE IS TO PETITION THE NHTSA AND HOPE THEY RECALL IT TO REPLACE IT BY DODGE, OR PAY FOR A REPAIR MYSELF OUT OF POCKET FOR A KNOWN AND ACKNOWLEDGED DEFECT. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD WITH THE VEHICLE AND I AM NOTICING THE SAME ISSUE ON ALL DODGE DURANGOS I OBSERVE ON THE ROAD NOW, WITH RUSTY QUARTER PANELS DUE TO FUEL SPILL AND SATURATION ISSUES IN THE SAME SPOT.

THE CODE I'M GETTING IS A DEALER PART ONLY AND I'VE FOUND THAT 4 OUT OF FIVE DODGE DURANGO OR CHRYSLER ASPEN HAVE HAD THIS ISSUE. THIS HAS BEEN A VERY EXPENSIVE TRIAL AND ERROR PROCESS. MY SISTER WHO OWNS A 2008 ASPEN JUST REPLACED THE SAME PART I NEED TO REPLACE FOR ALMOST 1,000 DOLLARS AND THAT'S NOT THE ONLY TIME I'VE HEARD OF THIS COMMON ISSUE WITH THE SOLENOIDS FROM THIS HEMI ENGINE. IT'S NOT ALLOWS ALL CYLINDERS TO WORK BECAUSE THIS FAULTY PART IS MALFUNCTIONING. PLEASE RECALL THIS PART SO I'M SURE 75% OF THE OWNERS CAN FINALLY HAVE A RELIABLE VEHICLE AND NOT GET STRANDED LIKE OTHERS I'M SURE THAT HAVE HAD THIS ISSUE.

I TOOK IT TO DOGE WERE I HAVE MY WORK DONE AND THE TWO FILL NECKS REPLACED AND THEY SAID THE TANK IS BAD. IT NEEDS REPLACED. AT THE TUNE OF $1200.00 PLUS COST. MORE PEOPLE THAN ME HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM AND I CAN NOT DRIVE THE CAR WITHOUT GAS. I HAD ANOTHER MECHANIC CHECK IT OUT AND SAID INSIDE OF THE PLASTIC TANK THAT HAS A LINER IN IT IS COMING APART INSIDE WHICH YOU CAN NOT REPAIR CAUSED FROM THE ETHONAL CONTENT IN GAS HAS CAUSED THIS ISSUE. THE LINER IS CAUSING THE FLAP INSIDE THE OPENING OF THE GAS TANK THAT THE FUEL INLET IS ATTACHED TO NOT TO OPEN AND ALLOW FUEL TO GO IN THE TANK. THIS INCIDENT HAS OCCURED TWICE ON ME SINCE PURCHASE OF A USED 2006 DURANGO. ON 11/20/16 I STOP AT GAS STATION TO FILL THE DURANGO UP WITH GAS. I PLACE THE NOZZEL INTO GAS TANK SELECT MY GRADE OF GAS & PUT NOZZLE INTO AUTO FILL. UPON TANK BECOMING FULL OF GAS THE GAS NOZZEL SHUT OFF & AFTERWARDS GAS BEGAN TO SPEWED OUT OF TANK, SOMETIME WITH HIGH PRESSURE & SOMETIMES IN LOW PRESSURE SPRAY. GAS CONTINUED TO FLOW OUT OF TANK FOR ABOUT 6 SECONDS ONTO THE GROUND. VEHICAL WAS STATIONARY AT THE FUEL PUMP.

I HAVE TRIED STOPPING THE PUMP SEVERAL TIMES TO ALLOW THE FUEL TO SETTLE, DIFFERENT BRANDS OF GAS AND DIFFERENT FILLER HANDLE POSITIONS. THE ONLY THING THAT CAN PREVENT THIS IS NOT FILLING THE TANK MORE THAN 3/4 FULL.

THIS DURANGO HAD SPEWED GAS DURING FILL UP EVER SINCE PURCHASED 11/2006, SO I JUST TRIED TO BE CAREFUL WHEN FILLING. APRIL 2012, I HAD SOME RUST FIXED AROUND THE REAR WHEEL AREA ON THE GAS TANK SIDE. DID NOT REALLY THINK TOO MUCH ABOUT IT AT THE TIME. 1/29/14 I HAD AN INLET CHECK VALVE REPLACED AT THE DEALERSHIP DUE TO NOTIFICATION FROM CHRYSLER AND THEY SAID THIS COULD BE A SAFETY ISSUE. THOUGHT THEN THAT THIS DEFECT IS PROBABLY WHAT CAUSED MY RUST ISSUE BUT I HAD HAD THAT FIXED SO DID NOT THINK ANYTHING ABOUT IT....UNTIL IT STARTED TO RUST AGAIN IN THE SAME AREA. TOOK CAR TO SHERWOOD DEALERSHIP AND WAS GIVEN THE RUN AROUND. WAS TOLD IN JUNE 2013 THAT THERE WAS A SHORTAGE OF PARTS AVAILABLE TO FIX MY VEHICLE AND THEY WOULD CALL IN A FEW MONTHS TO SCHEDULE THE REPAIR. CALLED THE CHRYSLER CUSTOMER CARE ASSISTANCE CENTER AND REPORTED THE INCIDENT ON 6/4/2013. DECIDED TO FILE A GRIEVANCE HERE WITH THE NHTSA AS THIS IS AN EPA ISSUE AND SAFETY ISSUE DUE TO THE GASOLINE SPILLAGE. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. THE 2005 DURANGO WAS RECALLED FOR THE SAME FAILURE, BUT THE 2006 HAS NOT BEEN ADDRESSED. IT SHOULD NOT TAKE A FIRE OR SOMEONE GETTING HURT OR KILLED TO GET THIS CORRECTED. WE PAID A LOT OF MONEY FOR THIS VEHICLE NEW FOR THIS OCCURRENCE TO HAPPEN EVERY TIME WE FILL THE TANK UP. THE DEALERSHIP IGNORES THE ISSUE, AND CHRYSLER WANTS ME TO PAY TO HAVE IT INVESTIGATED, AND MAY REFUND ME IF IT IS FOUND TO BE A FAULTY PART. I CANNOT AFFORD THE $600 THE DEALERSHIP WANTS TO DO THIS WORK (DRAINING AND REMOVING THE TANK). OWN DURANGO BUILT JAN 2006, GAS IS PUT IN IT, CLICK OFF NOZZLE, GAS COMES BACK OUT FORCEFULLY OVER THE VEHICLE, GROUND AND MYSELF. IT IS TERRIFYING AND DANGEROUS. THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS ON THE 2005. SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET SERIOUSLY HURT. I BARELY DRIVE IT BECAUSE I AM SO TERRIFIED TO PUT GAS IN IT. I TRIED TO EMAIL DODGE AND THE EMAIL DOES NOT GO THROUGH. I CALLED ON THE RECALL AND THEY TOLD ME IT IS FOR THE 2005 AND I CAN HAVE THE DEALER FIX IT AND MAYBE THEY WILL HELP. I TOOK IT TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP AND THE PART ALONE IS $550 AND I DO NOT HAVE THAT KIND OF MONEY AND I DON'T HAVE 40,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. HERE IS THE RECALL: JANUARY 2009 -- CHRYSLER IS RECALLING 19,024 MY 2005 DODGE DURANGO VEHICLES. THE FUEL TANK FILLER TUBE INLET CHECK VALVE MAY NOT FULLY CLOSE AT THE END OF REFUELING. THIS COULD ALLOW SOME FUEL TO ESCAPE FROM THE VEHICLE THROUGH THE FILLER NECK AT THE END OF REFUELING. FUEL LEAKAGE IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE CAN RESULT IN A FIRE. DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE FUEL TANK INLET CHECK VALVE. VEHICLES FOUND TO HAVE A SUSPECT INLET CHECK VALVE WILL HAVE THE FUEL TANK ASSEMBLY REPLACED FREE OF CHARGE. THERE HAS BEEN A TSB # 14-001-12 AND NHTSA REF. # 10043594 ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND DURANGOS WITH CERTAIN VIN#S HAVE BEEN FIXED WITH THIS TSB. I THOUGHT ALL 2006 DURANGOS WOULD BE FIXED WITH THIS TECH. SERVICE BULLETIN. WHEN I INQUIRED AT THE DEALER ON 6/9/12 ABOUT HAVING THE PROBLEM FIXED I WAS TOLD MY VIN # WAS NOT COVERED IN THE TSB. I CONTACTED CHRYSLER ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND HAD A REP. CALL ME AND ASK WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS AND THAT SHE NEVER HEARD OF THE PROBLEM. I REFERRED TO THE TSB NOTICE AND SHE STILL ACTED LIKE SHE DIDN'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT IT.
